Description

[0001] GLASSES, PROJECTION SYSTEM AND STEREO PROJECTION SYSTEM

[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD

[0003] The invention relates to glasses, in particular stereo glasses for a stereo projection system operating by means of 3D wavelength division multiplex technology (WMT), as well as a corresponding projection system or stereo projection system.

[0004] STATE OF THE ART

[0005] Various types of glasses, particularly stereo glasses, are known from the state of the art and are used to create a spatial depth effect in the human brain when viewing 3D films or 3D images.

[0006] To achieve this, two images are required, one for the left and one for the right eye, taken from two different perspectives. These partial perspective images must be perceived simultaneously but separately by each eye to generate a spatial impression in the brain. To achieve separate perception for each eye, appropriate filters are used so that each eye is presented with only the stereoscopic partial perspective image intended for that eye.

[0007] For this purpose, there are various types of stereo glasses equipped with corresponding filters. For example, stereo glasses for separate imaging using the anaglyph method contain a red filter for the left eye and a green filter for the right eye. Other filter colors include, for example, a red filter for the right eye and a cyan filter for the left eye (Deep Vision System), a blue filter for the right eye and a yellow / orange filter for the left eye (ColorCode 3-D), a green filter for the left eye and a magenta filter for the right eye, etc.

[0008] A nearly color-neutral stereo projection system is provided by the use of interference filter glasses, in which the primary colors of the images for the left and right eye are reduced to different, non-overlapping wavelength ranges.

[0009] For this purpose, a technology using interference filter glasses for generating and reproducing optically three-dimensional, stereoscopic images is known in the prior art; this technology is referred to as wavelength division multiplexing technology (WMT). Variants of this wavelength division multiplexing technology (WMT) are described, for example, in the following patents: DE 198 08 264 A1; DE 199 24 167 B4; DE 100 05 335 C2; DE 100 57 102 B4;

[0010] DE 102 49 815 B4; DE 103 59 788 B4; EP 2 399 165 Al; DE 10 2006 054 713 B4 and DE 20 201 105 681 Ul as well

[0011] EP 3 442 224 A1 . For example, DE 10 2006 054 713 B4 discloses a method for generating an optically three-dimensionally perceivable image reproduction which offers good color reproduction and reliable separation of partial perspective images. In this case, color filters for the two partial perspective images to be formed are designed in such a way that the number of transmission bands is reduced compared to the known prior art. The number of transmission bands is less than 5, and these 5 or fewer transmission bands do not mutually overlap. At least one of the transmission bands is arranged in the range of two color perceptions of blue (B), green (G) or red (R). The other transmission bands are arranged in the frequency spectrum in such a way that they are arranged in the range of a single color perception, i.e. blue or green or red. These transmission bands for color perception preferably exhibit a bandwidth in the range of approximately 30 nm or significantly less, which allows for reliable demarcation and arrangement within a color perception range and ensures reliable demarcation or separation from the other transmission bands. Furthermore, the transmission bands are arranged such that they are sufficiently spaced apart. The above-specified arrangement produces a particularly natural color perception.

[0012] European patent application EP 3442224A1 describes a system for three-dimensional image projection and viewing using wavelength division multiplexing technology, in which the transmission bands have different widths and the 3D viewing lenses are curved. The wavelength division multiplexing technology described above for color-true, three-dimensional reproduction and perception using appropriate stereo projection systems and stereo glasses is often used in amusement parks, cinemas, museums, and many other facilities, with the same image content being transmitted to all users or wearers of the stereo glasses.

[0013] The disadvantage here is that although these glasses have a considerable contrast, an increased contrast reproduction is desirable.

[0014] DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0015] The invention is based on the object of providing glasses, in particular stereo glasses, for a stereo projection system operating by means of 3D wavelength division multiplex technology (WMT), as well as a corresponding stereo projection system, which enables the user or wearer to have a very high-contrast representation of the environment, which can contain reproduced image information.

[0016] The object is achieved according to the invention with a pair of glasses which has the features specified in claim 1, with a projection system which has the features specified in claim 12, and with a stereo projection system which has the features specified in claim 13.

[0017] Advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.

[0018] The spectacles according to the invention are provided with a first spectacle lens having a first interference filter and with a second spectacle lens having a second interference filter, wherein the interference filters each exhibit spectral transmission and stop bands. The spectacle lenses designed as interference filters are each provided with at least three transmission bands with an average bandwidth of less than or equal to 25 nm, wherein at least one transmission band is arranged in the primary colors red, green, and blue.

[0019] These extremely narrow transmission bands are accompanied by correspondingly large, wide stop bands, which means that extensive frequency ranges of the ambient light are blocked when passing through the lenses, resulting in a high-contrast impression for the wearer of these glasses. If there is an image projector in the visible environment for projection onto a screen and / or a screen for displaying a 2D image, in which a 2D image is generated using laser light sources or other corresponding narrow-band light sources and in which the light from the very narrow-band light sources falls into a transmission band of the lenses, the glasses can be used in a special way to create a harmonious, colorful and very high-contrast impression for the wearer.By extensively suppressing ambient light with the help of wide and pronounced stopbands, it is possible to limit the disruptive influence of this suppressed ambient light without suppressing the generated 2D images in any way. This allows the perception of the 2D images with particularly high contrast and true colors. This design of the glasses is therefore particularly suitable for an environment with this type of projection system. Such projection systems are used in amusement parks, among other places. The same applies to analogous applications within the framework of.

[0020] Stereo projection systems that use 3D wavelength division multiplexing (WMT) technology.

[0021] The lenses are mineral interference filters and thus typically formed with metal oxides. These lenses are particularly designed with a mineral glass substrate and are curved with a radius of curvature in the range of 100 mm. The mineral interference filter on a mineral glass substrate creates a very robust and stable lens whose optical and mechanical properties complement each other harmoniously. In addition to a mineral glass substrate, plastic substrates have proven successful for lens construction.

[0022] The lenses have a radius of curvature between 90 and 120 mm. This choice of curvature, especially for the entire lens, makes it possible to minimize the directional dependence of the light incident on the lenses. With these radii of curvature, it is possible to keep the angle of incidence of the light onto the lenses and thus onto the interference filter perpendicular or nearly perpendicular, thus significantly limiting the disruptive deviation from the perpendicular, allowing a harmonious color impression with high contrast to be achieved.

[0023] The first and the second spectacle lens are each provided with a curvature which is in particular cylindrical, spherical cap-shaped or spherical segment-shaped. This results in a spherical curvature of the spectacle lenses. It is noted that the terms “spherical cap-shaped” and “spherical segment-shaped” are understood as equivalent terms. One advantage of providing the curvature is that it prevents or at least reduces the problems which occur with interference filters. For example, the wearer of the spectacles does not always look straight ahead, i.e. vertically, through the spectacle lenses, but can also look towards the edges of the lenses. However, with such an oblique viewing angle, color distortion occurs due to the off-center incident light without the curvature of the lenses. This is because the layers of the interference filters on the lenses have the same, or essentially the same, thickness across the surface of the lenses. They are transparent to certain frequencies or wavelengths and block other frequencies or wavelengths, which depends on the length of time the light passes through the layers of the interference filters. If the wearer of the stereo glasses looks through the lenses at an angle instead of vertically, then different lengths of time the light passes through are affected, and color distortion occurs.

[0024] These color distortions are primarily due to a shift in the transmission bands of the lenses. These can be compensated or at least reduced by curved lenses.

[0025] This interplay of narrow transmission bands and curved mineral lenses creates a good, harmonious, and colorful impression for the wearer, one that also offers a high level of contrast. This is achieved precisely by the narrow transmission bands with the extensive stop bands in between, without compromising the harmonious color impression. Furthermore, the image through the glasses is characterized by a low degree of directional dependence, which leads to a very pleasant perception of the surroundings through the glasses. This low degree of directional dependence is achieved by ensuring that the angle of incidence of the light on the lenses and thus on the interference filter is perpendicular or nearly perpendicular and thus the deviation from the perpendicular is limited, so that the deviation has only a slight negative influence on the transmission of the light and the harmonious color impression with high contrast.

[0026] A particularly advantageous development of the glasses is characterized in that each of the lenses designed as an interference filter is provided with at least three transmission bands with an average bandwidth of less than or equal to 15 nm, with at least one transmission band in each of the primary colors red, green, and blue. This makes it possible, on the one hand, to achieve particularly strong suppression of stray light from unwanted ambient light and, on the other hand, within the framework of a projection system according to the invention for 2D images or a stereo projection system, to provide the wearer of the glasses with an extremely high-contrast, harmonious, and colorful impression.

[0027] A particular development of the invention shows stereo glasses for a stereo projection system operating by means of 3D wavelength division multiplexing technology (WMT), wherein the stereo glasses have a first lens with a first interference filter and a second lens with a second interference filter with respective spectral transmission and stop bands, wherein the spectral stop bands of one interference filter comprise the transmission bands of the other interference filter in the visible frequency range. These stereo glasses prove to be particularly advantageous when generating a 3D image using laser light sources or other corresponding narrowband light sources in a stereo projection system operating by means of 3D wavelength division multiplexing technology (WMT).The design of the lenses of the stereo glasses allows them to be used for the left-right separation of the 3D images or videos projected according to the wavelength multiplex method, without neglecting the harmonious and colorful as well as very high-contrast impression for the user of the glasses.

[0028] A particularly advantageous development of these glasses is characterized by the fact that the bandwidth of the transmission bands of a lens increases with increasing wavelength. This makes it possible to achieve a particularly harmonious color impression with high contrast. Different sensitivities in color perception are compensated, especially when the light is incident at an angle.

[0029] A particularly advantageous development of the glasses is characterized by the fact that the average bandwidth of the transmission band in the primary color red is at least 10 nm wider than the average bandwidth of the transmission band in the primary color blue. This makes it possible to achieve a particularly harmonious color impression with high contrast. Different sensitivities in color perception are compensated for, especially when the light is incident at an angle.

[0030] A particularly advantageous development of the glasses is characterized by the fact that the glasses are designed so that the distance between the lenses and the eyeball with the crystalline lens is between 20 and 30 mm. This minimizes the deviation between the focal point of the lenses and the center of the eyeball, thus minimizing the risk or degree of distortion in harmonious color perception and contrast.

[0031] A particularly advantageous development of the glasses is characterized by the fact that the interference filters are formed at least partially by coating the first and second lenses. This development allows the interference filters, and thus the glasses, to be realized particularly simply and efficiently, or at a low cost.

[0032] A particularly advantageous development of the glasses is characterized in that the coatings of the interference filters on the lenses have different layer thicknesses depending on the position on the lens, with the layer thickness being greater in the edge region of the lens than in the central region of the lens. In addition to providing the curvature of the lenses, the layer thickness of a coating on the lenses, which can comprise several layers, is also increased towards the edges in order to at least partially compensate for the changed passage length when the light falls at an angle and thus for color distortions and image distortions due to the angled passage through the lenses or through the interference filters at the edges of the lenses and in turn to enable particularly harmonious color perception with high contrast.

[0033] A particularly advantageous development of the glasses is characterized by the fact that the layer thicknesses remain the same or increase, in particular steadily, from the central area to the edge. By means of these layer thicknesses, which vary evenly depending on the direction of passage of the light, it is particularly possible to achieve a uniformly changed passage length when the light falls at an angle. This way, color distortions and image distortions due to the angled passage through the lenses or due to the interference filters at the edges of the lenses can be reduced particularly evenly and harmoniously, thus enabling particularly harmonious color perception with high contrast.

[0034] A particularly advantageous development of the glasses is characterized in that the lenses are held by a frame which at least partially blocks the incidence of light that does not pass through the lenses into the eye of the wearer of the glasses. This is preferably achieved in that the arms of the glasses are flat and limit the lateral incidence of stray light, or in that the frame around the lenses is wide and extends towards the wearer's face and limits the incidence of stray light from above or below, or in that the bridge between the lenses is widened so that the incidence of stray light is limited in the area of the bridge. The reduced stray light enables improved color perception and improved contrast.

[0035] Furthermore, according to the invention, a projection system is provided which comprises at least one image projector and / or at least one screen for displaying a 2D image on a screen by means of laser light sources or other corresponding narrow-band light sources and at least one pair of spectacles according to the invention having the features described above and the advantages already described. These spectacles prove to be particularly advantageous particularly when producing an image of a 2D image by means of laser light sources or other corresponding narrow-band light sources, the light from which falls into a respective transmission band of the spectacle lenses. This configuration of the spectacle lenses as part of the projection system enables a harmonious and colorful as well as very high-contrast color impression for the user of the spectacles.

[0036] Furthermore, the invention provides a stereo projection system comprising at least one stereo image projector and / or at least one stereo screen for displaying a stereo image on a screen using 3D wavelength division multiplexing technology (WMT), and at least one pair of stereo glasses according to the invention having the features and advantages described above. These stereo glasses prove particularly advantageous when generating a 3D image using laser light sources or other corresponding narrowband light sources in a stereo projection system operating using 3D wavelength division multiplexing technology (WMT).This design of the lenses of the stereo glasses allows them to be used for the left-right separation of the 3D images or videos projected according to the wavelength division multiplex method, without neglecting the harmonious and colorful as well as very high-contrast color impression for the user of the glasses.

[0037] A particularly advantageous development of the projection system or the stereo projection system is characterized in that the light sources of the image projector or the screen or the stereo image projector or the stereo screen are laser light sources or other corresponding narrow-band light sources with an average bandwidth of a few nm, the light from which falls into a transmission band of the spectacle lenses. This preferably occurs for all transmission bands in the region of the lower edge of the respective transmission band. This makes it possible to compensate for shifts in the transmission bands of the spectacle lenses towards shorter wavelengths when the interference filters of the spectacle lenses are illuminated at different angles and to very reliably ensure the possibility of perceiving images from the image projector or the screen or the stereo image projector or the stereo screen. This allows color distortions to be largely prevented and a harmonious, colorful and very high-contrast color impression to be achieved for the user of the projection system or the stereo projection system.

[0038] The invention is explained below using preferred embodiments with reference to the figures. The invention is not limited to these preferred embodiments.

[0039] Fig. 1 shows a schematic representation of an exemplary pair of glasses or stereo glasses in connection with the eyes of a user and thus in the worn state according to the invention;

[0040] Fig. 2 shows a schematic representation of an exemplary pair of glasses in a side view. Fig. 3 shows a schematic representation of an exemplary filter characteristic of the two

[0041] Spectacle lenses of an exemplary stereo pair of glasses according to the invention or their imaging devices.

[0042] Fig. 1 shows an exemplary pair of stereo glasses 10 according to the invention for a stereo projection system operating by means of 3D wavelength division multiplex technology (WMT), wherein the stereo glasses 10 have a first spectacle lens 1a with a first interference filter and a second spectacle lens 1b with a second interference filter. The interference filters each have spectral transmission bands BL, BR, GL, GR, RL, RR and stop bands, wherein the spectral stop bands of one interference filter comprise the transmission bands BL, BR, GL, GR, RL, RR of the other interference filter in the visible frequency range. The two spectacle lenses 1a, 1b designed as interference filters are each provided with at least three transmission bands BL, BR, GL, GR, RL, RR with an average bandwidth of less than or equal to 25 nm or 15 nm, wherein at least one transmission band is arranged in the primary colors red, green and blue. The spectacle lenses 1a, 1b are designed as mineral interference filters, in particular with a mineral glass substrate, and are curved with a radius of curvature in the range of 100 mm. The mineral interference filter on a mineral glass substrate creates a very robust and stable spectacle lens whose optical and mechanical properties complement each other very harmoniously. The first and second spectacle lenses 1a, 1b are each provided with a curvature that is shaped like a spherical segment and is therefore spherical.

[0043] One advantage of providing the curvature is that it prevents or at least reduces the problems that occur with interference filters. For example, the wearer of the glasses 10 does not always look straight ahead, i.e. perpendicularly, through the lenses 1a, 1b, but can also look towards the edges of the lenses 1a, 1b. However, with such an oblique viewing angle, the non-centrally incident light without the curvature of the lenses 1a, 1b leads to shifts in the transmission bands and thus to color distortions, because the layers of the interference filters on the lenses 1a, 1b have the same or almost the same thickness across the surface of the lenses 1a, 1b. They are permeable to a certain frequency or wavelength and block other frequencies or wavelengths, which is related to the length of time it takes for the light to pass through the layers of the interference filters. If the wearer of the stereo glasses 10 looks through the lenses 1a, 1b at an angle instead of vertically, the light transmission lengths change, leading to shifts in the transmission bands of the lenses and color distortions. These can be compensated or at least reduced by the curved lenses 1a, 1b.

[0044] Through this interplay of narrow transmission bands BL, BR, GL, GR, RL, RR and curved mineral spectacle lenses 1a, 1b, it is possible to achieve a good, particularly harmonious and colorful impression for the user of the spectacles 10, which also proves to be very high in contrast. This is achieved precisely by the narrow transmission bands BL, BR, GL, GR, RL, RR with the extensive stop bands in between, without the harmonious color impression suffering. Furthermore, the image through the spectacles 10 is characterized by a low direction dependence, which leads to a very pleasant perception of the surroundings through the spectacles 10.This low degree of directional dependence is achieved by ensuring that the angle of incidence of the light on the lenses 1a, 1b and thus on the interference filter is selected to be perpendicular or nearly perpendicular, thus limiting the deviation from the perpendicular so that the deviation has only a slight negative influence on the transmission of the light and only a slight negative influence on the harmonious color impression at high contrast.

[0045] The stereo glasses 10 shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 consist of the lenses 1a and 1b, which are held in place by means of a frame. The frame consists of two temples 2a for hanging behind the ears of a user and a bridge 2b that connects the two lenses 1a, 1b, which are enclosed by a frame 2c. The two temples 2a are flat in such a way that they limit the lateral incidence of stray light.

[0046] The frames 2c around the lenses 1a, 1b are so wide and extend in the direction of the wearer's face that they limit the incidence of stray light from above or below. In a corresponding way, the bridge 2b between the lenses 1a, 1b is widened so that the incidence of stray light is limited in the area of the bridge 2b. The stray light reduced by these frames 2a, 2b, 2c enables improved color perception and improved contrast. The stereo glasses 10 are characterized in that the distance of the lenses 1a, 1b to the eyeball with the lens and thus to the eye 3a, 3b is in the range between 20 and 30 mm.This minimizes the deviation between the focal point 5a, 5b of the lenses 1a, 1b and the center 4a, 4b of the eyeball 3a, 3b, thus minimizing the risk or degree of distortion in harmonious color perception and contrast. The distance between the eye 3a, 3b and the lens 1a, 1b can be measured along the line 8a, 8b.

[0047] The line 7a, 7b represents a connecting line between the eye 3a, 3b or the focal point 5a, 5b of the spectacle lens 1a, 1b and the central region of the spectacle lens 1a, 1b, where the line 7a, 7b pierces the spectacle lens 1a, 1b perpendicularly, thus allowing the incident light to pass through the interference filter of the spectacle lens 1a, 1b without distortion due to oblique incidence. Here, ideal vision through the spectacles 10 is provided.

[0048] In contrast, the line 6a, 6b, which represents a line from the point of intersection of the line 8a, 8b through the spectacle lens 1a, 1b to the focal point 5a, 5b of the left or right spectacle lens 1a, 1b, shows that due to the divergence of the center of the eyes 3a, 3b and the focal points 5a, 5b, the light at the point of intersection does not pass through the spectacle lenses 1a, 1b vertically but obliquely, in particular at different angles depending on the position of the point of intersection on the spectacle lens 1a, 1b.

[0049] As a result, the light passes through the multiple coatings of the interference filter at different angles, which is accompanied by color distortions and different transmission or blocking behavior. In extreme cases, this can even lead to the blocking and thus suppression of individual narrow bands of the light sources - especially with monochromatic lasers. An acceptable stereo color image can be lost if this is not counteracted by a sufficient degree of curvature of the spectacle lenses 1a, 1b and by the selection of the distance d between the spectacle lens 1a, 1b and the eye 3a, 3b and by a suitable design of the layer thicknesses of the interference filter coatings.

[0050] The stereo glasses 10 are characterized in that the interference filters of the lenses 1a, 1b are formed by coating the first and second lenses 1a, 1b. This allows the glasses 10 to be manufactured particularly simply and efficiently, and at a low cost.

[0051] The coatings of the interference filters of the spectacle lenses la, 1b are formed with different layer thicknesses depending on the position on the spectacle lens la, 1b, wherein the layer thickness in the edge region of the spectacle lens la, 1b is greater than in the central region of the spectacle lens la, 1b. In addition to providing the curvature of the spectacle lenses la, 1b, an increase in the layer thickness of a coating of the spectacle lenses la, 1b, which can comprise several layers, is also realized towards the edges in order to at least partially compensate for a changed passage length in the event of oblique incidence of light and thus color distortions and image distortions due to the oblique passage through the spectacle lenses la, 1b or through the interference filters at the edges of the spectacle lenses la, 1b and thus to enable particularly harmonious color perception with high contrast. The layer thicknesses increase steadily from the central area to the edge of the interference filters of the lenses 1a, 1b. These layer thicknesses, which vary evenly depending on the direction of light passage, make it particularly possible to achieve a uniformly changed passage length when the light strikes at an angle, which is accompanied by uniformly different shifts in the transmission bands of the lenses, and thus to reduce color distortions and image distortions due to the oblique passage through the lenses 1a, 1b or through the interference filters at the edges of the lenses 1a, 1b particularly evenly and harmoniously, thereby enabling particularly harmonious color perception with high contrast.

[0052] In Fig . 3 the spectral distribution of the optical transmittance and thus the transmission bands

[0053] BL, BR, GL, GR, RL, RR and stop bands of the interference filters of the lenses 1a, 1b as well as the spectral distribution of the light generated by the light sources for the stereo images of the stereo projection system are shown.

[0054] The light sources are implemented as monochromatic lasers with different wavelengths, of which two lasers emit monochromatic light in the spectral range B1, B2 of the primary color blue or the blue perception range of the eye, two lasers emit monochromatic light in the spectral range G1, G2 of the primary color green or the green perception range of the eye and two lasers emit monochromatic light in the spectral range R1, R2 of the primary color red or the red perception range of the eye. The stereo glasses 10 are characterized in that the bandwidth of the transmission bands BL, BR, GL, GR, RL, RR of a spectacle lens 1a, 1b increases with increasing wavelength. The blue transmission bands BL, BR have an average bandwidth of the transmission band in the range of 14 nm or 5 nm.The green transmission bands GL, GR indicate an average transmission band bandwidth in the range of 20 nm or 12 nm. The red transmission bands RL, RR indicate an average transmission band bandwidth in the range of 25 nm or 15 nm.

[0055] This makes it possible to achieve a particularly harmonious color impression with high contrast. Different sensitivities in color perception are compensated, especially when light falls at an angle.

[0056] Furthermore, the stereo glasses 10 are characterized by the fact that the average bandwidths of the transmission band RL, RR in the primary color red are at least 10 nm wider than the average bandwidths of the transmission band BL, BR in the primary color blue. This makes it possible to achieve a particularly harmonious color impression with high contrast. Different sensitivities in color perception, especially in the case of oblique light incidence, are compensated for.

[0057] The interference filters of the spectacle lenses 1a, 1b each have spectral transmission bands BL, BR, GL, GR, RL, RR and stop bands, wherein the spectral stop bands of one interference filter of one spectacle lens 1a comprise the transmission bands BR, GR, RR of the other interference filter of the other spectacle lens 1b in the visible frequency range. In addition, each transmission band BL, BR, GL, GR, RL, RR is assigned exactly one spectral range Bl, B2, Gl, G2, RI, R2 of a single laser of the stereo projection system in such a way that each spectral range Bl, B2, Gl, G2, RI, R2 is encompassed by a single transmission band BL, BR, GL, GR, RL, RR and is blocked by all other transmission bands BL, BR, GL, GR, RL, RR. This makes it possible to implement a stereo projection system operating using 3D wavelength division multiplexing technology (WMT).

[0058] The wearer or user of the stereo glasses 10 and the stereo projection system experiences a very pleasant and high-quality image experience characterized by harmonious color perception and high contrast. Furthermore, reliable image separation of the stereo image data is guaranteed.
