Description

[0001] Box and flat blank for making a box

[0002] DESCRIPTION

[0003] The present invention refers to a box and a blank for making a box. The present invention preferably refers to a box made of paper material with a cover and to a blank for making a box made of paper material with a cover.

[0004] Boxes made of paper material with a cover are widely used for shipping articles purchased remotely, for example through e-commerce platforms, in such a way as to deliver the purchased article directly to the buyer's home, concealing it during transport and also preserving it from any damage due to accidental impacts.

[0005] The Applicant has verified that these boxes of paper material, when used for shipping articles, are subject to impacts, rubs and pressures that could damage the box itself. In the event of damage to the box of paper material, the article contained therein could also be damaged, creating obvious problems for the buyer and the seller. In the case of alteration of the external appearance, however, the buyer's purchase satisfaction could be adversely affected, as such alteration of the external appearance of the box of paper material could lead the buyer to perceive a poor quality of the box of paper material and its content.

[0006] In the Applicant's experience, it is possible to increase the strength of the box of paper material to prevent possible damage or alterations to its external appearance by adopting some measures such as, for example, increasing the thickness of the paper material used to make the box, either or in combination by gluing reinforcing material to the box, either or in combination by making the box of paper material starting from several blanks of different thicknesses (in such a way as to increase the strength only in some zones of the box).

[0007] However, the Applicant has noted that these measures are in contrast with the need to use paper material thicknesses as reduced as possible to avoid using excessive amounts of paper material (for obvious reasons of environmental compatibility) and with the need to make the box starting from a single blank subjected to automated folding actions.

[0008] The Applicant has verified that by providing a box made of paper material in which the side walls of the box are integral (i.e. continuously connected) to the back wall of the box, the back wall of the box and the side walls can offer adequate structural strength thanks to the uninterrupted edges that are created between the side walls and the back wall.

[0009] The Applicant has perceived that the structural strength of the box can be further improved by providing the cover hinged to the box and by providing reinforcement structures at least at some of the junction zones of the side walls. The Applicant has also perceived that at the junction zones of the side walls, such reinforcement structures should not have appendages or tabs turned towards the outside of the box, both so as not to negatively affect the aesthetic appearance of the box, and to prevent such appendages or tabs from being accidentally lifted, torn or otherwise damaged during transport and use of the box.

[0010] The Applicant has found that by providing a first reinforcement appendage and a second reinforcement appendage each of which having two portions superimposed on each other and integral with two adjacent side walls of the box and by arranging the first reinforcement appendage and the second reinforcement appendage turned towards an internal volume of the box, it is possible to obtain adequate structural strength of the box without negatively affecting the aesthetic appearance of the box and without these reinforcement appendages being accidentally lifted, torn or otherwise damaged during transport and use of the box.

[0011] The present invention therefore concerns, in a first aspect thereof, a box.

[0012] Preferably, the box comprises a base wall, a back wall, a front wall, a first side wall and a second side wall defining a housing volume for an article.

[0013] Preferably, said first side wall and second side wall are arranged between said back wall and front wall.

[0014] Preferably, said back wall, front wall, first side wall and second side wall are integral with said base wall.

[0015] Preferably, the box comprises a cover comprising a cover wall integral with said back wall and foldable so as to close said housing volume and to open said housing volume. Preferably, said cover comprises a first auxiliary cover wall, a second auxiliary cover wall and a third auxiliary cover wall integral with the cover wall.

[0016] Preferably, the box comprises a first back reinforcement appendage comprising a first portion integral with said first side wall and a second portion integral with said back wall. Preferably, said first portion is integral with said second portion and said first portion and second portion are superimposed on each other and turned towards the housing volume when said cover is closing said housing volume.

[0017] Preferably, the box comprises a second back reinforcement appendage comprising a first portion integral with said second side wall and a second portion integral with said back wall.

[0018] Preferably, said first portion is integral with said second portion and said first portion and second portion are superimposed on each other and turned towards the housing volume when said cover is closing said housing volume.

[0019] Preferably, the box comprises a first cover reinforcement appendage comprising a first portion integral with said first auxiliary cover wall.

[0020] Preferably, the first cover reinforcement appendage comprises a second portion integral with said first portion and with said third auxiliary cover wall.

[0021] Preferably, said first portion and said second portion are superimposed on each other and turned towards said front wall when the cover is closing said housing volume.

[0022] Preferably, the box comprises a second cover reinforcement appendage comprising a first portion integral with said second auxiliary cover wall.

[0023] Preferably, the second cover reinforcement appendage comprises a second portion integral with said first portion and with said third auxiliary cover wall.

[0024] Preferably, said first portion and said second portion are superimposed on each other and turned towards said front wall when the cover is closing said housing volume.

[0025] The Applicant has further found that by making the first portion and the second portion of the first cover reinforcement appendage integral with each other and respectively integral with the first auxiliary cover wall and with the third auxiliary cover wall, the first cover reinforcement appendage is made integral with both the first auxiliary cover wall and the third auxiliary cover wall. In this way, the first cover reinforcement appendage does not have weakened sections that could jeopardize the structural rigidity of the first cover appendage. Furthermore, the mutual overlap between the first portion and the second portion of the first cover reinforcement appendage allows to further stiffen the cover at the junction zone between the first auxiliary cover wall and the third auxiliary cover wall. Furthermore, the fact that the first cover reinforcement appendage is made integral with the first cover auxiliary wall and with the third cover auxiliary wall dispenses with necessarily using adhesives or the like between the first cover reinforcement appendage, the first cover auxiliary wall and / or the third cover auxiliary wall.

[0026] Similarly, by making the first portion and the second portion of the second cover reinforcement appendage integral with each other and respectively integral with the second cover auxiliary wall and with the third cover auxiliary wall, the second cover reinforcement appendage is made integral with both the second cover auxiliary wall and the third cover auxiliary wall. In this way, the second cover reinforcement appendage does not have weakened sections that could jeopardize the structural rigidity of the second cover appendage. Furthermore, the mutual overlap between the first portion and the second portion of the second cover reinforcement appendage allows to further stiffen the cover at the junction zone between the second auxiliary cover wall and the third auxiliary cover wall. Furthermore, the fact that the second cover reinforcement appendage is made integral with the second cover auxiliary wall and with the third cover auxiliary wall dispenses with necessarily using adhesives or the like between the second cover reinforcement appendage, the second cover auxiliary wall and / or the third cover auxiliary wall.

[0027] The present invention concerns, in a second aspect thereof, a flat blank for making a box. Preferably, the blank comprises a central portion, a first side portion and a second side portion wherein said first side portion is connected to said central portion by a single first continuous longitudinal folding line and wherein said second side portion is connected to said central portion by a single second continuous longitudinal folding line.

The first portion 24 and the second portion 25 are facing in the housing volume 17 with the second portion 25 directly exposed in the housing volume 17 and the first portion 24 interposed between the second portion 24 and the first side wall 12.

[0206] As schematically depicted in figure 6, when the box 10 is in a closed condition, the first portion 24 is directly connected to the first side wall 12 and is folded by 180° with respect to the first side wall 12 to be arranged parallel and superimposed on the first side wall 12. The second portion 25 is directly connected to the first portion 24 and is folded by 180° with respect to the first portion 24 to be arranged parallel and superimposed on the first portion 24. The second portion 25 reaches the back wall 14, to which it is directly connected, forming a 90° angle with the back wall 14. Unlike what is depicted in figure 6 (which in order to illustrate increased wall thicknesses creates a representation error at the point where the second portion 25 reaches the back wall 14) the second portion 25 reaches the back wall 14 in an edge zone where the cover wall 18, the first auxiliary cover wall 19 and the back wall 14 meet. This zone is better depicted in figure 1 .

[0207] In the embodiments of figure 1 , 2 and 3, the first portion 24 and the second portion 25 of the first back reinforcement appendage 22 are in the same configuration even when the box 10 is in an open condition, i.e. when the cover 16 is opening the housing volume 17. In the embodiments of figure 1 , 2 and 3, the first portion 24 and the second portion 25 assume the same configuration both when the box 10 is in a closed condition and when the box 10 is in an open condition. In the embodiments of figure 1 , 2 and 3, the first portion 24 and the second portion 25 are glued together and the first portion 24 is glued to the first side wall 12. In these embodiments, when the box 10 is in an open condition the cover 16 opens up with an angle of 90° with respect to the base wall 1 1 . When the box 10 is in an open condition the cover wall 18 is arranged coplanar with the back wall 14 which continues to form a 90° angle with the base wall 11 .

[0208] In the embodiment of figure 4 (which differs from the other embodiments in the way in which the cover 16 opens) the first portion 24 and the second portion 25 are not glued together and the first portion 24 is not glued to the first side wall 12. In this embodiment, when the box 10 is in an open condition, the cover 16 is opened like a book (opens up with an angle of 180°) with respect to the base wall 11 . In this embodiment, as illustrated in figure 4, when the box 10 is in an open condition, the back wall 14 is arranged to be coplanar with the base wall 1 1 and with the cover wall 18.

[0209] In this embodiment, as illustrated in figure 4 when the box 10 is in an open condition the first portion 24 is directly connected to the first side wall 12 and coplanar with the first side wall 12.
