MULTIPLE PARITY BIT MAPPING SCHEMES FOR A COMMUNICATIONCROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
[0001] This Patent Application claims priority to Israel Patent Application No. 305940, filed on September 13, 2023, entitled “MULTIPLE PARITY BIT MAPPING SCHEMES FOR A COMMUNICATION,” and assigned to the assignee hereof. The disclosure of the prior Application is considered part of and is incorporated by reference into this Patent Application.INTRODUCTION
[0001] Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication and to techniques and apparatuses for communicating using parity bits.
[0002] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various telecommunication services such as telephony, video, data, messaging, and broadcasts. Typical wireless communication systems may employ multiple-access technologies capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., bandwidth, transmit power, or the like). Examples of such multiple-access technologies include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single -carrier frequency division multiple access (SC- FDMA) systems, time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems, and Long Term Evolution (LTE). LTE / LTE- Advanced is a set of enhancements to the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile standard promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
[0003] A wireless network may include one or more network nodes that support communication for wireless communication devices, such as a user equipment (UE) or multiple UEs. A UE may communicate with a network node via downlink communications and uplink communications. “Downlink” (or “DL”) refers to a communication link from the network node to the UE, and “uplink” (or “UL”) refers to a communication link from the UE to the network node. Some wireless networks may support device-to-device communication, such as via a local link (e.g., a sidelink (SL), a wireless local area network (WLAN) link, and / or a wireless personal area network (WPAN) link, among other examples).
[0004] The above multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide a common protocol that enables different UEs to communicate on a municipal, national, regional, and / or global level. New Radio (NR), which may be referred to as 5G, is a set of enhancements to the LTE mobile standard promulgated by the 3GPP. NR is designed to better support mobile broadband internet access by improving spectral efficiency, lowering costs, improving services, making use of new spectrum, and betterintegrating with other open standards using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with a cyclic prefix (CP) (CP-OFDM) on the downlink, using CP-OFDM and / or single-carrier frequency division multiplexing (SC-FDM) (also known as discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM)) on the uplink, as well as supporting beamforming, multiple-input multiple -output (MIMO) antenna technology, and carrier aggregation. As the demand for mobile broadband access continues to increase, further improvements in LTE, NR, and other radio access technologies remain useful.SUMMARY

[0034] In some networks, wireless communication devices (WCDs) may communicate using a frequency range that is higher than 20 GHz, such as a frequency range that uses a SubTHz band (e.g., between approximately 90 GHz and 300 GHz). High frequency ranges, such as SubTHz bands may support improved throughput based at least in part on having a relatively large available bandwidth. For example, the improved throughput may include throughput links such as a 300 gigabit per second (Gbps) link.
[0035] To communicate using a high frequency range, as described, a WCD may use a low- complexity decoder (e.g., associated with power consumption that satisfies a threshold and / or a decoding latency that satisfies a threshold), such as a Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) decoder or a Reed-Solomon (RS) decoder, among other examples. Additionally, increasing a coding rate (e.g., by reducing an amount of data carried on a set of communication resources) may be used to reduce a complexity of a decoder. The high coding rate may be achieved by using a product code encoding scheme, which may include decoding a communication in a first dimension and in a second direction. For example, a product code encoding scheme may using multiple BCH or RS codes with different code rates, which codes combine for a a total code rate.
[0036] On some channels, a receiving WCD may detect a channel response having peak-to- peak differences of several decibels (dBs). For example, a first set of frequency ranges may have received signal strengths in a first range of dBs and a second set of frequency ranges may have received signal strengths in a second range of dBs that is lower than the first range of dBs. This may occur based on interference, noise, and / or propagation effects, which may differ in a channel based at least in part on the channel being wider than lower frequency channels, such as frequency range (FR) 1 or FR 2 (described below).
[0037] In some networks, a coding configuration may be selected to accommodate the second range of dBs. In this way, a coding rate may be sufficiently high to decode the second set of frequency ranges, and may be higher than necessary to decoder the first set of frequency ranges. This may unnecessarily reduce a throughput of information transmitted via the first set of frequency ranges. Alternatively, the coding configuration may be selected to maximum a throughput of the first set of frequency ranges, which may result in a coding rate that is too low to decode the second set of frequency ranges. In this way, an error rate associated with the second set of frequency ranges may cause decoding failure, which may consume power, computing, communication, and / or network resources to correct (e.g., via requesting and txin retransmissions).
[0038] Various aspects relate generally to a communication having different parity bit mapping schemes applied to different frequency ranges of the communication. In some examples, a transmitting device may apply different parity bit mapping schemes to different subchannels of the communication. In some aspects, a first parity bit mapping scheme (e.g., with a relatively high number of parity bits) may be applied to a first set of one or more subchannels having relatively low received power and a second parity bit mapping scheme (e.g., with a relatively high number of parity bits) may be applied to a second set of one or more subchannels having relatively high received power.
[0039] In some aspects, the first parity bit mapping scheme is associated with a first number of dimensions having parity bits and the second parity bit mapping scheme is associated with a second number of dimensions having parity bits and / or having parity bits on parity bits. In this way, a receiving WCD may apply decoding using parity bits in the first number of dimensions for the first set of one or more subchannels and may apply decoding using parity bits in the second number of dimensions and / or with parity bits on parity bits for the second set of one or more subchannels.
[0040] The parity bits may be used to create a total sum of the systematic bits and the parity bits, after applying a modulo function, to match a configured value of 1 or 0, as transmitted from a transmitting WCD. For example, the systematic bits may sum to an even number (e.g., modulo value of 0). If the configured value for parity is 0, the parity bits (e.g., bits associated with a constellation point to which a parity signal is mapped) may also sum to an even number to provide a total sum of the systematic bits and the parity bits 410 that has a modulo value of 0. If a receiving WCD decodes the systematic bits and the parity bits and finds a modulo value of 1, the receiving WCD may perform an additional decoding operation to find an error that cause the modulo value to fail to match the configured value of 0. In some aspects, using parity bits in only one dimension may provide the least help for error correction, but may include a higher density of data bits.
[0041] In a parity bit mapping scheme that includes parity bits for two dimensions of decoding (e.g., rows and columns), a communication may be organized with bit values arranged in rows and columns. Parity bits for decoding in a first dimension (e.g., rows) may include one or more bits to check for parity in the first dimension (e.g., for each row) so the receiving WCD may identify a subset of systematic bits (e.g., a row) that has an error, instead of simply identifying that an error is present within the entire set of systematic bits. This may improve error correction by narrowing down potentially erroneous decoded resources. In addition to decoding each of the rows, the receiving WCD may decode columns of the systematic bits and checking parity with a set of parity bits configured for checking parity in the second dimension. This allows the receiving WCD to locate an error of the systematic bits more easily relative to a single dimension of encoding (e.g., by isolating a subset of the systematic bits that are in a row associated with an error detected by the parity bits). Additionally, or alternatively, using two dimensions of encoding, an error from a first row and an error from a second row may not cancel out and become undetected by a decoder.
[0042] In some aspects, a receiving WCD may apply a same decoder (e.g., a BCH and / or RS decoder) to decode bits in a first dimension (e.g., rows) and / or in a second dimension (e.g., columns). In this way, a single decoder may be used to decode each of the subchannels that have different parity bit mapping schemes applied (e.g., with different code rates, but in a different number of dimensions. For example, the receiving WCD may apply the single decoder to each subchannel on, only rows, only columns, rows and columns of systematic bits, or rows and columns of systematic bits and rows or columns of parity bits).
[0043] Particular aspects of the subject matter described in this disclosure can be implemented to conserve computing, power, network, and / or communication resources. In some examples, by using different parity bit mapping schemes for different portions of a communication, the communication may reduce decoding errors (e.g., relative to having a single parity bit mapping scheme with too few parity bits), reduce unnecessary overhead (e.g., relative to having a single parity bit mapping scheme with too many parity bits), and / or conserve power and / or computing resources that may have otherwise been used to decode the communication with different rate matching configurations, among other examples.
[0044] In some aspects, a network node may transmit an indication of assignments (e.g., to one or more subchannels of the communication) of a first parity bit mapping scheme and a second parity bit mapping scheme to a UE. For example, the network node may indicate that a first set of subchannels is assigned a first parity bit mapping scheme and a second set of subchannels is assigned a second parity bit mapping scheme. Additionally, or alternatively, the network node may transmit an indication of one or more parameters for the UE to identify the assignments. For example, the network node may transmit an indication of one or more channel energy thresholds, one or more capacity thresholds, and / or one or more signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) thresholds that the UE may use to identify a parity bit mapping scheme to a subchannel. In this way, the UE and the network node may synchronize on a mapping of subchannels of the communication to different parity bit mapping schemes. This may allow the UE and the network node to use the multiple schemes to improve the spectral efficiency of the communication.
[0045] In an example aspect, at connection establishment, a UE may report a capability to support configurable coding (e.g., in association with a number of parity bits and / or a parity bit mapping scheme, among other examples) per allocation (e.g., for a single communication having an allocation of frequency resources). In some aspects, the UE may report decoding options that the UE supports, such as without product code, with product code, with product code with parity bits on the parity bits, or any other configuration that changes a coding rate and allows a basic BCH decoding unit to be used for the different decoding options. In some aspects, the UE may report desire gaps between each configuration. In some aspects, the UE may indicate the desired gaps per rank, per modulation and coding scheme (MCS), and / or based at least in part on other parameters of the communication.
[0046] Once the UE is in the connected mode, the network node may transmit an indication of different coding rates by, for example, vector of bits that represent the code rate per resource element, resource block, subband, code block, and / or code block group, among other examples. In some aspects, the vector may be compressed by, for example, differentiating adjacent values. In some aspects, based at least in part on a coherence bandwidth, adjacent subchannel may have high correlation to have a same code rate. This may result in a differentiating vector that is mostly zeros, which can be efficiently compressed using a model such as Huffman compression. In some aspects, the report may be use differentiation from a previous report, which may reduce nonzero values and enable further compression.
[0047] Additionally, or alternatively, the network node may transmit an indication (e.g., a report) to the UE that indicates thresholds associated with channel energy, SNR values, and / or capacities. The UE may identify a code rate, number of parity bits, and / or parity bit mapping scheme based at least in part on the thresholds and a measurement of the communication at the subchannels. In some aspects, multiple thresholds may be used to define a range of values, where, if a measurement is within the range of values, the UE maps a subchannel to an associated code rate, number of parity bits, and / or parity bit mapping scheme, among other examples. In some aspects, the measurement may be based at least in part on an sounding reference signal (SRS) channel estimation and a reciprocity assumption, or based at least in part on a UE channel state information (CSI) report (e.g., channel state feedback (CSF) of the channel or indication of a desired code rate per allocation (e.g., desired based at least in part on the measurement).
[0048] The network node may transmit the indication of the thresholds via radio resource control (RRC) messages, medium access control (MAC) control element (CE), and / or downlink control information (DCI) (e.g., in association with a doppler spread) and / or may be periodic or A-periodic. In some aspects, the UE may report back if a configuration is not effective for decoding communications from the UE. In some aspects, the UE may provide granular feedback (e.g., indicating parts of the configuration that are not effective) based at least in part on, for examples, collecting statistics of a number of iterations of each subband and if decoding passed.
[0049] Although described in context of a network node transmitting to a UE, the WCDs may include Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) nodes. Additionally, or alternatively, the communication may be an uplink communication transmitted from the UE (e.g., an encoding WCD) to a network node (e.g., a decoding WCD using the single decoder).
[0050] Various aspects of the disclosure are described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings. This disclosure may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to any specific structure or function presented throughout this disclosure. Rather, these aspects are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope of the disclosure to those skilled in the art. One skilled in the art should appreciate that the scope of the disclosure is intended to cover any aspect of the disclosure disclosed herein, whether implemented independently of or combined with any other aspect of the disclosure. For example, an apparatus may be implemented or a method may be practiced using any number of the aspects set forth herein. In addition, the scope of the disclosure is intended to cover such an apparatus or method which is practiced using other structure, functionality, or structure and functionality in addition to or other than the various aspects of the disclosure set forth herein. [0051] Several aspects of telecommunication systems will now be presented with reference to various apparatuses and techniques. These apparatuses and techniques will be described in the following detailed description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, modules, components, circuits, steps, processes, algorithms, or the like (collectively referred to as “elements”). These elements may be implemented using hardware, software, or combinations thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system.
[0052] While aspects may be described herein using terminology commonly associated with a 5G or New Radio (NR) radio access technology (RAT), aspects of the present disclosure can be applied to other RATs, such as a 3G RAT, a 4G RAT, and / or a RAT subsequent to 5G (e.g., 6G).
[0053] Fig. 1 is a diagram illustrating an example of a wireless network 100, in accordance with the present disclosure. The wireless network 100 may be or may include elements of a 5G (e.g., NR) network and / or a 4G (e.g., Long Term Evolution (LTE)) network, among other examples. The wireless network 100 may include one or more network nodes 110 (shown as a network node 110a, a network node 110b, a network node 110c, and a network node 1 lOd), a user equipment (UE) 120 or multiple UEs 120 (shown as a UE 120a, a UE 120b, a UE 120c, a UE 120d, and a UE 120e), and / or other entities. A network node 110 is a network node that communicates with UEs 120. As shown, a network node 110 may include one or more network nodes. For example, a network node 110 may be an aggregated network node, meaning that the aggregated network node is configured to utilize a radio protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single radio access network (RAN) node (e.g., within a single device or unit). As another example, a network node 110 may be a disaggregated network node (sometimes referred to as a disaggregated base station), meaning that the network node 110 is configured to utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among two or more nodes (such as one or more central units (CUs), one or more distributed units (DUs), or one or more radio units (RUs)).
[0054] In some examples, a network node 110 is or includes a network node that communicates with UEs 120 via a radio access link, such as an RU. In some examples, a network node 110 is or includes a network node that communicates with other network nodes 110 via a fronthaul link or a midhaul link, such as a DU. In some examples, a network node 110 is or includes a network node that communicates with other network nodes 110 via a midhaul link or a core network via a backhaul link, such as a CU. In some examples, a network node 110 (such as an aggregated network node 110 or a disaggregated network node 110) may include multiple network nodes, such as one or more RUs, one or more CUs, and / or one or more DUs. A network node 110 may include, for example, an NR base station, an LTE base station, a Node B, an eNB (e.g., in 4G), a gNB (e.g., in 5G), an access point, a transmission reception point (TRP), a DU, an RU, a CU, a mobility element of a network, a core network node, a network element, a network equipment, a RAN node, or a combination thereof. In some examples, the network nodes 110 may be interconnected to one another or to one or more other network nodes 110 in the wireless network 100 through various types of fronthaul, midhaul, and / or backhaul interfaces, such as a direct physical connection, an air interface, or a virtual network, using any suitable transport network.
[0055] In some examples, a network node 110 may provide communication coverage for a particular geographic area. In the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), the term “cell” can refer to a coverage area of a network node 110 and / or a network node subsystem serving this coverage area, depending on the context in which the term is used. A network node 110 may provide communication coverage for a macro cell, a pico cell, a femto cell, and / or anothertype of cell. A macro cell may cover a relatively large geographic area (e.g., several kilometers in radius) and may allow unrestricted access by UEs 120 with service subscriptions. A pico cell may cover a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access by UEs 120 with service subscriptions. A femto cell may cover a relatively small geographic area (e.g., a home) and may allow restricted access by UEs 120 having association with the femto cell (e.g., UEs 120 in a closed subscriber group (CSG)). A network node 110 for a macro cell may be referred to as a macro network node. A network node 110 for a pico cell may be referred to as a pico network node. A network node 110 for a femto cell may be referred to as a femto network node or an in-home network node. In the example shown in Fig. 1, the network node 110a may be a macro network node for a macro cell 102a, the network node 110b may be a pico network node for a pico cell 102b, and the network node 110c may be a femto network node for a femto cell 102c. A network node may support one or multiple (e.g., three) cells. In some examples, a cell may not necessarily be stationary, and the geographic area of the cell may move according to the location of a network node 110 that is mobile (e.g., a mobile network node).
[0056] In some aspects, the terms “base station” or “network node” may refer to an aggregated base station, a disaggregated base station, an IAB node, a relay node, or one or more components thereof. For example, in some aspects, “base station” or “network node” may refer to a CU, a DU, an RU, a Near-Real Time (Near-RT) RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC), or a Non-Real Time (Non-RT) RIC, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, the terms “base station” or “network node” may refer to one device configured to perform one or more functions, such as those described herein in connection with the network node 110. In some aspects, the terms “base station” or “network node” may refer to a plurality of devices configured to perform the one or more functions. For example, in some distributed systems, each of a quantity of different devices (which may be located in the same geographic location or in different geographic locations) may be configured to perform at least a portion of a function, or to duplicate performance of at least a portion of the function, and the terms “base station” or “network node” may refer to any one or more of those different devices. In some aspects, the terms “base station” or “network node” may refer to one or more virtual base stations or one or more virtual base station functions. For example, in some aspects, two or more base station functions may be instantiated on a single device. In some aspects, the terms “base station” or “network node” may refer to one of the base station functions and not another. In this way, a single device may include more than one base station.
[0057] The wireless network 100 may include one or more relay stations. A relay station is a network node that can receive a transmission of data from an upstream node (e.g., a network node 110 or a UE 120) and send a transmission of the data to a downstream node (e.g., a UE 120 or a network node 110). A relay station may be a UE 120 that can relay transmissions for other UEs 120. In the example shown in Fig. 1, the network node 1 lOd (e.g., a relay networknode) may communicate with the network node 110a (e.g., a macro network node) and the UE 120d in order to facilitate communication between the network node 110a and the UE 120d. A network node 110 that relays communications may be referred to as a relay station, a relay base station, a relay network node, a relay node, a relay, or the like.
[0058] The wireless network 100 may be a heterogeneous network that includes network nodes 110 of different types, such as macro network nodes, pico network nodes, femto network nodes, relay network nodes, or the like. These different types of network nodes 110 may have different transmit power levels, different coverage areas, and / or different impacts on interference in the wireless network 100. For example, macro network nodes may have a high transmit power level (e.g., 5 to 40 watts) whereas pico network nodes, femto network nodes, and relay network nodes may have lower transmit power levels (e.g., 0.1 to 2 watts).
[0059] A network controller 130 may couple to or communicate with a set of network nodes 110 and may provide coordination and control for these network nodes 110. The network controller 130 may communicate with the network nodes 110 via a backhaul communication link or a midhaul communication link. The network nodes 110 may communicate with one another directly or indirectly via a wireless or wireline backhaul communication link. In some aspects, the network controller 130 may be a CU or a core network device, or may include a CU or a core network device.
[0060] The UEs 120 may be dispersed throughout the wireless network 100, and each UE 120 may be stationary or mobile. A UE 120 may include, for example, an access terminal, a terminal, a mobile station, and / or a subscriber unit. A UE 120 may be a cellular phone (e.g., a smart phone), a personal digital assistant (PDA), a wireless modem, a wireless communication device, a handheld device, a laptop computer, a cordless phone, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, a tablet, a camera, a gaming device, a netbook, a smartbook, an ultrabook, a medical device, a biometric device, a wearable device (e.g., a smart watch, smart clothing, smart glasses, a smart wristband, smart jewelry (e.g., a smart ring or a smart bracelet)), an entertainment device (e.g., a music device, a video device, and / or a satellite radio), a vehicular component or sensor, a smart meter / sensor, industrial manufacturing equipment, a global positioning system device, a UE function of a network node, and / or any other suitable device that is configured to communicate via a wireless or wired medium.
[0061] Some UEs 120 may be considered machine-type communication (MTC) or evolved or enhanced machine-type communication (eMTC) UEs. An MTC UE and / or an eMTC UE may include, for example, a robot, an unmanned aerial vehicle, a remote device, a sensor, a meter, a monitor, and / or a location tag, that may communicate with a network node, another device (e.g., a remote device), or some other entity. Some UEs 120 may be considered Intemet-of-Things (loT) devices, and / or may be implemented as NB-IoT (narrowband loT) devices. Some UEs 120 may be considered a Customer Premises Equipment. A UE 120 may be included inside ahousing that houses components of the UE 120, such as processor components and / or memory components. In some examples, the processor components and the memory components may be coupled together. For example, the processor components (e.g., one or more processors) and the memory components (e.g., a memory) may be operatively coupled, communicatively coupled, electronically coupled, and / or electrically coupled.
[0062] In general, any number of wireless networks 100 may be deployed in a given geographic area. Each wireless network 100 may support a particular RAT and may operate on one or more frequencies. A RAT may be referred to as a radio technology, an air interface, or the like. A frequency may be referred to as a carrier, a frequency channel, or the like. Each frequency may support a single RAT in a given geographic area in order to avoid interference between wireless networks of different RATs. In some cases, NR or 5G RAT networks may be deployed.
[0063] In some examples, two or more UEs 120 (e.g., shown as UE 120a and UE 120e) may communicate directly using one or more side link channels (e.g., without using a network node 110 as an intermediary to communicate with one another). For example, the UEs 120 may communicate using peer-to-peer (P2P) communications, device-to-device (D2D) communications, a vehicle-to-everything (V2X) protocol (e.g., which may include a vehicle-to- vehicle (V2V) protocol, a vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) protocol, or a vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P) protocol), and / or a mesh network. In such examples, a UE 120 may perform scheduling operations, resource selection operations, and / or other operations described elsewhere herein as being performed by the network node 110.
[0064] The electromagnetic spectrum is often subdivided, by frequency / wavelength, into various classes, bands, channels, etc. In 5G NR, two initial operating bands have been identified as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz - 7.125 GHz) and FR2 (24.25 GHz - 52.6 GHz). It should be understood that although a portion of FR1 is greater than 6 GHz, FR1 is often referred to (interchangeably) as a “Sub-6 GHz” band in various documents and articles. A similar nomenclature issue sometimes occurs with regard to FR2, which is often referred to (interchangeably) as a “millimeter wave” band in documents and articles, despite being different from the extremely high frequency (EHF) band (30 GHz - 300 GHz) which is identified by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as a “millimeter wave” band.
[0065] The frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are often referred to as mid-band frequencies. Recent 5G NR studies have identified an operating band for these mid-band frequencies as frequency range designation FR3 (7.125 GHz - 24.25 GHz). Frequency bands falling within FR3 may inherit FR1 characteristics and / or FR2 characteristics, and thus may effectively extend features of FR1 and / or FR2 into mid-band frequencies. In addition, higher frequency bands are currently being explored to extend 5G NR operation beyond 52.6 GHz. For example, three higher operating bands have been identified as frequency range designations FR4a or FR4-1(52.6 GHz - 71 GHz), FR4 (52.6 GHz - 114.25 GHz), and FR5 (114.25 GHz - 300 GHz). Each of these higher frequency bands falls within the EHF band.
[0066] With the above examples in mind, unless specifically stated otherwise, it should be understood that the term “sub-6 GHz” or the like, if used herein, may broadly represent frequencies that may be less than 6 GHz, may be within FR1, or may include mid-band frequencies. Further, unless specifically stated otherwise, it should be understood that the term “millimeter wave” or the like, if used herein, may broadly represent frequencies that may include mid-band frequencies, may be within FR2, FR4, FR4-a or FR4-1, and / or FR5, or may be within the EHF band. It is contemplated that the frequencies included in these operating bands (e.g., FR1, FR2, FR3, FR4, FR4-a, FR4-1, and / or FR5) may be modified, and techniques described herein are applicable to those modified frequency ranges.
[0067] In some aspects, a WCD (e.g., a UE, a network node, or another node, such as an IAB node) may include a communication manager 140 or 150. As described in more detail elsewhere herein, the communication manager 140 or 150 may transmit an indication of support for multiple parity bit mapping schemes for a communication; and receive the communication having a first parity bit mapping scheme and a second parity bit mapping scheme, the first parity bit mapping scheme being different from the second parity bit mapping scheme. As described in more detail elsewhere herein, the communication manager 140 or 150 may receive an indication of support for multiple parity bit mapping schemes for a communication; and transmit the communication having a first parity bit mapping scheme and a second parity bit mapping scheme, the first parity bit mapping scheme being different from the second parity bit mapping scheme. Additionally, or alternatively, the communication manager 140 or 150 may perform one or more other operations described herein.
[0068] As indicated above, Fig. 1 is provided as an example. Other examples may differ from what is described with regard to Fig. 1.
[0069] Fig. 2 is a diagram illustrating an example 200 of a network node 110 in communication with a UE 120 in a wireless network 100, in accordance with the present disclosure. The network node 110 may be equipped with a set of antennas 234a through 234t, such as T antennas (T> 1). The UE 120 may be equipped with a set of antennas 252a through 252r, such as R antennas (R > 1). The network node 110 of example 200 includes one or more radio frequency components, such as antennas 234 and a modem 232. In some examples, a network node 110 may include an interface, a communication component, or another component that facilitates communication with the UE 120 or another network node. Some network nodes 110 may not include radio frequency components that facilitate direct communication with the UE 120, such as one or more CUs, or one or more DUs.
[0070] At the network node 110, a transmit processor 220 may receive data, from a data source 212, intended for the UE 120 (or a set of UEs 120). The transmit processor 220 mayselect one or more modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) for the UE 120 based at least in part on one or more channel quality indicators (CQIs) received from that UE 120. The network node 110 may process (e.g., encode and modulate) the data for the UE 120 based at least in part on the MCS(s) selected for the UE 120 and may provide data symbols for the UE 120. The transmit processor 220 may process system information (e.g., for semi-static resource partitioning information (SRPI)) and control information (e.g., CQI requests, grants, and / or upper layer signaling) and provide overhead symbols and control symbols. The transmit processor 220 may generate reference symbols for reference signals (e.g., a cell-specific reference signal (CRS) or a demodulation reference signal (DMRS)) and synchronization signals (e.g., a primary synchronization signal (PSS) or a secondary synchronization signal (SSS)). A transmit (TX) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processor 230 may perform spatial processing (e.g., precoding) on the data symbols, the control symbols, the overhead symbols, and / or the reference symbols, if applicable, and may provide a set of output symbol streams (e.g., T output symbol streams) to a corresponding set of modems 232 (e.g., T modems), shown as modems 232a through 232t. For example, each output symbol stream may be provided to a modulator component (shown as MOD) of a modem 232. Each modem 232 may use a respective modulator component to process a respective output symbol stream (e.g., for OFDM) to obtain an output sample stream. Each modem 232 may further use a respective modulator component to process (e.g., convert to analog, amplify, fdter, and / or upconvert) the output sample stream to obtain a downlink signal. The modems 232a through 232t may transmit a set of downlink signals (e.g., T downlink signals) via a corresponding set of antennas 234 (e.g., T antennas), shown as antennas 234a through 234t.
[0071] At the UE 120, a set of antennas 252 (shown as antennas 252a through 252r) may receive the downlink signals from the network node 110 and / or other network nodes 110 and may provide a set of received signals (e.g., R received signals) to a set of modems 254 (e.g., R modems), shown as modems 254a through 254r. For example, each received signal may be provided to a demodulator component (shown as DEMOD) of a modem 254. Each modem 254 may use a respective demodulator component to condition (e.g., filter, amplify, downconvert, and / or digitize) a received signal to obtain input samples. Each modem 254 may use a demodulator component to further process the input samples (e.g., for OFDM) to obtain received symbols. A MIMO detector 256 may obtain received symbols from the modems 254, may perform MIMO detection on the received symbols if applicable, and may provide detected symbols. A receive processor 258 may process (e.g., demodulate and decode) the detected symbols, may provide decoded data for the UE 120 to a data sink 260, and may provide decoded control information and system information to a controller / processor 280. The term “controller / processor” may refer to one or more controllers, one or more processors, or a combination thereof. A channel processor may determine a reference signal received power(RSRP) parameter, a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) parameter, a reference signal received quality (RSRQ) parameter, and / or a CQI parameter, among other examples. In some examples, one or more components of the UE 120 may be included in a housing.
[0072] The network controller 130 may include a communication unit 294, a controller / processor 290, and a memory 292. The network controller 130 may include, for example, one or more devices in a core network. The network controller 130 may communicate with the network node 110 via the communication unit 294.
[0073] One or more antennas (e.g., antennas 234a through 234t and / or antennas 252a through 252r) may include, or may be included within, one or more antenna panels, one or more antenna groups, one or more sets of antenna elements, and / or one or more antenna arrays, among other examples. An antenna panel, an antenna group, a set of antenna elements, and / or an antenna array may include one or more antenna elements (within a single housing or multiple housings), a set of coplanar antenna elements, a set of non-coplanar antenna elements, and / or one or more antenna elements coupled to one or more transmission and / or reception components, such as one or more components of Fig. 2.
[0074] On the uplink, at the UE 120, a transmit processor 264 may receive and process data from a data source 262 and control information (e.g., for reports that include RSRP, RSSI, RSRQ, and / or CQI) from the controller / processor 280. The transmit processor 264 may generate reference symbols for one or more reference signals. The symbols from the transmit processor 264 may be precoded by a TX MIMO processor 266 if applicable, further processed by the modems 254 (e.g., for DFT-s-OFDM or CP-OFDM), and transmitted to the network node 110. In some examples, the modem 254 of the UE 120 may include a modulator and a demodulator. In some examples, the UE 120 includes a transceiver. The transceiver may include any combination of the antenna(s) 252, the modem(s) 254, the MIMO detector 256, the receive processor 258, the transmit processor 264, and / or the TX MIMO processor 266. The transceiver may be used by a processor (e.g., the controller / processor 280) and the memory 282 to perform aspects of any of the methods described herein.
[0075] At the network node 110, the uplink signals from UE 120 and / or other UEs may be received by the antennas 234, processed by the modem 232 (e.g., a demodulator component, shown as DEMOD, of the modem 232), detected by a MIMO detector 236 if applicable, and further processed by a receive processor 238 to obtain decoded data and control information sent by the UE 120. The receive processor 238 may provide the decoded data to a data sink 239 and provide the decoded control information to the controller / processor 240. The network node 110 may include a communication unit 244 and may communicate with the network controller 130 via the communication unit 244. The network node 110 may include a scheduler 246 to schedule one or more UEs 120 for downlink and / or uplink communications. In some examples, the modem 232 of the network node 110 may include a modulator and a demodulator. In someexamples, the network node 110 includes a transceiver. The transceiver may include any combination of the antenna(s) 234, the modem(s) 232, the MIMO detector 236, the receive processor 238, the transmit processor 220, and / or the TX MIMO processor 230. The transceiver may be used by a processor (e.g., the controller / processor 240) and the memory 242 to perform aspects of any of the methods described herein.
[0076] The controller / processor 240 of the network node 110, the controller / processor 280 of the UE 120, and / or any other component(s) of Fig. 2 may perform one or more techniques associated with communicating using multiple parity bit mapping schemes for a communication, as described in more detail elsewhere herein. In some aspects, the WCD described herein is the network node 110, is included in the network node 110, or includes one or more components of the network node 110 shown in Fig. 2. In some aspects, the WCD described herein is the UE 120, is included in the UE 120, or includes one or more components of the UE 120 shown in Fig. 2.
[0077] For example, the controller / processor 240 of the network node 110, the controller / processor 280 of the UE 120, and / or any other component(s) of Fig. 2 may perform or direct operations of, for example, process 700 of Fig. 7, process 800 of Fig. 8, and / or other processes as described herein. The memory 242 and the memory 282 may store data and program codes for the network node 110 and the UE 120, respectively. In some examples, the memory 242 and / or the memory 282 may include a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing one or more instructions (e.g., code and / or program code) for wireless communication. For example, the one or more instructions, when executed (e.g., directly, or after compiling, converting, and / or interpreting) by one or more processors of the network node 110 and / or the UE 120, may cause the one or more processors, the UE 120, and / or the network node 110 to perform or direct operations of, for example, process 700 of Fig. 7, process 800 of Fig. 8, and / or other processes as described herein. In some examples, executing instructions may include running the instructions, converting the instructions, compiling the instructions, and / or interpreting the instructions, among other examples.
[0078] In some aspects, a WCD (e.g., UE 120 or network node 110) includes means for transmitting an indication of support for multiple parity bit mapping schemes for a communication; and / or means for receiving the communication having a first parity bit mapping scheme and a second parity bit mapping scheme, the first parity bit mapping scheme being different from the second parity bit mapping scheme. In some aspects, the means for the wireless communication device (WCD to perform operations described herein may include, for example, one or more of communication manager 150, transmit processor 220, TX MIMO processor 230, modem 232, antenna 234, MIMO detector 236, receive processor 238, controller / processor 240, memory 242, or scheduler 246. In some aspects, the means for the wireless communication device (W CD to perform operations described herein may include, forexample, one or more of communication manager 140, antenna 252, modem 254, MIMO detector 256, receive processor 258, transmit processor 264, TX MIMO processor 266, controller / processor 280, or memory 282.
[0079] In some aspects, a WCD (e.g., network node 110 or UE 120) includes means for receiving an indication of support for multiple parity bit mapping schemes for a communication; and / or means for transmitting the communication having a first parity bit mapping scheme and a second parity bit mapping scheme, the first parity bit mapping scheme being different from the second parity bit mapping scheme. [0080] While blocks in Fig. 2 are illustrated as distinct components, the functions described above with respect to the blocks may be implemented in a single hardware, software, or combination component or in various combinations of components. For example, the functions described with respect to the transmit processor 264, the receive processor 258, and / or the TX MIMO processor 266 may be performed by or under the control of the controller / processor 280.
[0081] In some aspects, an individual processor may perform all of the functions described as being performed by the one or more processors. In some aspects, one or more processors may collectively perform a set of functions. For example, a first set of (one or more) processors of the one or more processors may perform a first function described as being performed by the one or more processors, and a second set of (one or more) processors of the one or more processors may perform a second function described as being performed by the one or more processors. The first set of processors and the second set of processors may be the same set of processors or may be different sets of processors. Reference to “one or more processors” should be understood to refer to any one or more of the processors described in connection with Fig.2. Reference to “one or more memories” should be understood to refer to any one or more memories of a corresponding device, such as the memory described in connection with Fig.2. For example, functions described as being performed by one or more memories can be performed by the same subset of the one or more memories or different subsets of the one or more memories.
[0082] As indicated above, Fig. 2 is provided as an example. Other examples may differ from what is described with regard to Fig. 2.
[0083] Deployment of communication systems, such as 5G NR systems, may be arranged in multiple manners with various components or constituent parts. In a 5G NR system, or network, a network node, a network entity, a mobility element of a network, a RAN node, a core network node, a network element, a base station, or a network equipment may be implemented in an aggregated or disaggregated architecture. For example, a base station (such as a Node B (NB), an evolved NB (eNB), an NR base station, a 5G NB, an access point (AP), a TRP, or a cell, among other examples), or one or more units (or one or more components) performing base station functionality, may be implemented as an aggregated base station (also known as a standalone base station or a monolithic base station) or a disaggregated base station. “Network entity” or “network node” may refer to a disaggregated base station, or to one or more units of a disaggregated base station (such as one or more CUs, one or more DUs, one or more RUs, or a combination thereof).
[0084] An aggregated base station (e.g., an aggregated network node) may be configured to utilize a radio protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single RAN node (e.g., within a single device or unit). A disaggregated base station (e.g., a disaggregated network node) may be configured to utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among two or more units (such as one or more CUs, one or more DUs, or one or more RUs). In some examples, a CU may be implemented within a network node, and one or more DUs may be co-located with the CU, or alternatively, may be geographically or virtually distributed throughout one or multiple other network nodes. The DUs may be implemented to communicate with one or more RUs. Each of the CU, DU, and RU also can be implemented as virtual units, such as a virtual central unit (VCU), a virtual distributed unit (VDU), or a virtual radio unit (VRU), among other examples.
[0085] Base station-type operation or network design may consider aggregation characteristics of base station functionality. For example, disaggregated base stations may be utilized in an IAB network, an open radio access network (O-RAN (such as the network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance)), or a virtualized radio access network (vRAN, also known as a cloud radio access network (C-RAN)) to facilitate scaling of communication systems by separating base station functionality into one or more units that can be individually deployed. A disaggregated base station may include functionality implemented across two or more units at various physical locations, as well as functionality implemented for at least one unit virtually, which can enable flexibility in network design. The various units of the disaggregated base station can be configured for wired or wireless communication with at least one other unit of the disaggregated base station.
[0086] Fig. 3 is a diagram illustrating an example disaggregated base station architecture 300, in accordance with the present disclosure. The disaggregated base station architecture 300 may include a CU 310 that can communicate directly with a core network 320 via a backhaullink, or indirectly with the core network 320 through one or more disaggregated control units (such as a Near-RT RIC 325 via an E2 link, or a Non-RT RIC 315 associated with a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) Framework 305, or both). A CU 310 may communicate with one or more DUs 330 via respective midhaul links, such as through Fl interfaces. Each of the DUs 330 may communicate with one or more RUs 340 via respective fronthaul links. Each of the RUs 340 may communicate with one or more UEs 120 via respective radio frequency (RF) access links. In some implementations, a UE 120 may be simultaneously served by multiple RUs 340.
[0087] Each of the units, including the CUs 310, the DUs 330, the RUs 340, as well as the Near-RT RICs 325, the Non-RT RICs 315, and the SMO Framework 305, may include one or more interfaces or be coupled with one or more interfaces configured to receive or transmit signals, data, or information (collectively, signals) via a wired or wireless transmission medium. Each of the units, or an associated processor or controller providing instructions to one or multiple communication interfaces of the respective unit, can be configured to communicate with one or more of the other units via the transmission medium. In some examples, each of the units can include a wired interface, configured to receive or transmit signals over a wired transmission medium to one or more of the other units, and a wireless interface, which may include a receiver, a transmitter or transceiver (such as an RF transceiver), configured to receive or transmit signals, or both, over a wireless transmission medium to one or more of the other units.
[0088] In some aspects, the CU 310 may host one or more higher layer control functions. Such control functions can include RRC functions, packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) functions, or service data adaptation protocol (SDAP) functions, among other examples. Each control function can be implemented with an interface configured to communicate signals with other control functions hosted by the CU 310. The CU 310 may be configured to handle user plane functionality (for example, Central Unit - User Plane (CU-UP) functionality), control plane functionality (for example, Central Unit - Control Plane (CU-CP) functionality), or a combination thereof. In some implementations, the CU 310 can be logically split into one or more CU-UP units and one or more CU-CP units. A CU-UP unit can communicate bidirectionally with a CU-CP unit via an interface, such as the El interface when implemented in an O-RAN configuration. The CU 310 can be implemented to communicate with a DU 330, as necessary, for network control and signaling.
[0089] Each DU 330 may correspond to a logical unit that includes one or more base station functions to control the operation of one or more RUs 340. In some aspects, the DU 330 may host one or more of a radio link control (RLC) layer, a medium access control (MAC) layer, and one or more high physical (PHY) layers depending, at least in part, on a functional split, such as a functional split defined by the 3GPP. In some aspects, the one or more high PHY layers maybe implemented by one or more modules for forward error correction (FEC) encoding and decoding, scrambling, and modulation and demodulation, among other examples. In some aspects, the DU 330 may further host one or more low PHY layers, such as implemented by one or more modules for a fast Fourier transform (FFT), an inverse FFT (iFFT), digital beamforming, or physical random access channel (PRACH) extraction and filtering, among other examples. Each layer (which also may be referred to as a module) can be implemented with an interface configured to communicate signals with other layers (and modules) hosted by the DU 330, or with the control functions hosted by the CU 310.
[0090] Each RU 340 may implement lower-layer functionality. In some deployments, an RU 340, controlled by a DU 330, may correspond to a logical node that hosts RF processing functions or low-PHY layer functions, such as performing an FFT, performing an iFFT, digital beamforming, or PRACH extraction and filtering, among other examples, based on a functional split (for example, a functional split defined by the 3GPP), such as a lower layer functional split. In such an architecture, each RU 340 can be operated to handle over the air (OTA) communication with one or more UEs 120. In some implementations, real-time and non-real- time aspects of control and user plane communication with the RU(s) 340 can be controlled by the corresponding DU 330. In some scenarios, this configuration can enable each DU 330 and the CU 310 to be implemented in a cloud-based RAN architecture, such as a vRAN architecture.
[0091] The SMO Framework 305 may be configured to support RAN deployment and provisioning of non-virtualized and virtualized network elements. For non-virtualized network elements, the SMO Framework 305 may be configured to support the deployment of dedicated physical resources for RAN coverage requirements, which may be managed via an operations and maintenance interface (such as an 01 interface). For virtualized network elements, the SMO Framework 305 may be configured to interact with a cloud computing platform (such as an open cloud (O-Cloud) platform 390) to perform network element life cycle management (such as to instantiate virtualized network elements) via a cloud computing platform interface (such as an 02 interface). Such virtualized network elements can include, but are not limited to, CUs 310, DUs 330, RUs 340, non-RT RICs 315, and Near-RT RICs 325. In some implementations, the SMO Framework 305 can communicate with a hardware aspect of a 4G RAN, such as an open eNB (O-eNB) 311, via an 01 interface. Additionally, in some implementations, the SMO Framework 305 can communicate directly with each of one or more RUs 340 via a respective 01 interface. The SMO Framework 305 also may include a Non-RT RIC 315 configured to support functionality of the SMO Framework 305.
[0092] The Non-RT RIC 315 may be configured to include a logical function that enables non-real-time control and optimization of RAN elements and resources, Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI / ML) workflows including model training and updates, or policy-based guidance of applications / features in the Near-RT RIC 325. The Non-RT RIC 315may be coupled to or communicate with (such as via an Al interface) the Near-RT RIC 325. The Near-RT RIC 325 may be configured to include a logical function that enables near-realtime control and optimization of RAN elements and resources via data collection and actions over an interface (such as via an E2 interface) connecting one or more CUs 310, one or more DUs 330, or both, as well as an O-eNB, with the Near-RT RIC 325.
[0093] In some implementations, to generate AI / ML models to be deployed in the Near-RT RIC 325, the Non-RT RIC 315 may receive parameters or external enrichment information from external servers. Such information may be utilized by the Near-RT RIC 325 and may be received at the SMO Framework 305 or the Non-RT RIC 315 from non-network data sources or from network functions. In some examples, the Non-RT RIC 315 or the Near-RT RIC 325 may be configured to tune RAN behavior or performance. For example, the Non-RT RIC 315 may monitor long-term trends and patterns for performance and employ AI / ML models to perform corrective actions through the SMO Framework 305 (such as reconfiguration via an 01 interface) or via creation of RAN management policies (such as Al interface policies).
[0094] As indicated above, Fig. 3 is provided as an example. Other examples may differ from what is described with regard to Fig. 3.
[0095] Figs. 4A-4C are diagrams illustrating examples 400, 415, 435, and 460 of different decoding operations, in accordance with the present disclosure. In example 400, a BCH coding, an RS coding, or another coding scheme may be applied to a wireless communication with a 1- dimensional encoding. In some examples, encoding may include a staircase encoding scheme in which an encoder starts with an initial value and adds subsequent data points based at least in part on differentials between the subsequent data point and previous data point in a communication. The differentials may be quantized into discrete intervals, which may be encoded into bits (e.g., a binary representation of the differentials).Example 415 shows a product coding scheme that includes applications of encoding in two dimensions (e.g., encoding with a first set of parity bits in a first dimension and encoding with a second set of bits in a second dimension). Example 435 shows a product coding scheme that includes applications of encoding in two dimensions and with parity bits on parity bits (e.g., at least one set of parity bits has parity bits to detect errors in the set of parity bits used to detect errors in the systematic bits). Example 460 shows a product coding scheme that includes applications of encoding in three dimensions, which may also include parity bits on parity bits. In each of Figs. 4A-4D, dashed arrows show how systematic bits map to parity bits (with the mapped parity bits used to check parity of the associated systematic bits). Different styles of dashed lines show different dimensions of the systematic bits that are grouped for parity checks using parity bits.
[0096] As shown in Fig. 4A, and in example 400, a communication (e.g., sent from a transmitting WCD to a receiving WCD) may include systematic bits 405 (e.g., information sentfrom the transmitting WCD to the receiving WCD) that include a pay load of the communication. The payload may include a series of bits of information and the parity bits may be used to check for correct decoding. For example, a receiving WCD may map a signal (e.g., within a resource element) to a constellation point of a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) associated with the communication. When mapping the signal to the constellation point, the receiving WCD may map the signal to a nearest constellation point (e.g., in an in-phase and quadrature (IQ) plane). The constellation point may be associated with a set of bits.
[0097] Once a decoder generates a string of bits (the systematic bits 405) from constellation points of signals of the communication, the decoder may use the parity bits 410 to check for errors. For example, the parity bits may be used to create a total sum of the systematic bits 405 and the parity bits 410, after applying a modulo function, to match a configured value of 1 or 0, as transmitted from a transmitting WCD. In a particular example, the systematic bits 405 may sum to an even number (e.g., modulo value of 0). If the configured value for parity is 0, the parity bits 425 (e.g., bits associated with a constellation point to which a parity signal is mapped) may also sum to an even number to provide a total sum of the systematic bits 405 and the parity bits 410 that has a modulo value of 0. If a receiving WCD decodes the systematic bits 405 and the parity bits 410 and finds a modulo value of 1, the receiving WCD may perform an additional decoding operation to find an error that cause the modulo value to fail to match the configured value of 0.
[0098] Performing the decoding using parity bits (e.g., in a BCH code or RS code) in a single dimension, as in example 400, may be suitable in high SNR scenarios. However, in low SNR scenarios, additional encoding gain may improve decoding accuracy.
[0099] As shown in Fig. 4B, and by example 415, a communication may include systematic bits 420 that are organized in two dimensions. In this way, parity bits 425 may include subsets of parity bits, with each subset associated with a different row of the systematic bits 420.
[0100] In some examples, the communication may include only the systematic bits 420 and the parity bits 425. In other examples, the communication may further include parity bits 430 that are configured to be used to check for errors in columns of the systematic bits 420. In this way, the decoder may find an error with improved accuracy relative to only having parity bits 425 by identifying a row and column location of an error. Additionally, or alternatively, the decoder may further reduce a number of errors that are undetected in association with error bits canceling out and becoming transparent on a row of bits. For example, if the systematic bits420 include an erroneous systematic bit 420A (including one or more bits), a parity bit 425A may indicate an error on a row associated with the erroneous systematic bit 420A, Additionally, or alternatively, a parity bit 430A may indicate an error on a column associated with the erroneous systematic bit 420A. In this way, the receiving WCD may identify a location of the erroneous systematic bit 420A.
[0101] In this way, the decoder may find an error with improved accuracy relative to only having parity bits 425 by identifying a row and column location of an error. Additionally, or alternatively, the decoder may further reduce a number of errors that are undetected in association with error bits canceling out and becoming transparent on a row of bits. In some examples, the communication may include only the systematic bits 420, the parity bits 425, and the parity bits 430.
[0102] As shown in Fig. 4C, and by example 435, a communication may include systematic bits 440 that are organized in two dimensions, parity bits 445 with subsets of parity bits associated with a different row of the systematic bits 440, and parity bits 450 having subsets of parity bits associated with a different column of the systematic bits 440, as shown in example 415. In example 435, the communication further includes parity bits for parity bits 455 that are configured to be used to check for errors in the parity bits 450 and / or the parity bits 445. In this way, the parity bits 445 and / or 450 may have increased accuracy, which may in turn improve decoding of the systematic bits 440 using the parity bits 445 and / or 450. For example, if the systematic bits 440 include an erroneous systematic bit 440A (including one or more bits), a parity bit 445A may indicate an error on a row associated with the erroneous systematic bit 440A, Additionally, or alternatively, a parity bit 450A may indicate an error on a column associated with the erroneous systematic bit 440A. In this way, the receiving WCD may identify a location of the erroneous systematic bit 440A.
[0103] As shown in Fig. 4D, and by example 460, a communication may include a 3- dimensional, or more, encoding / decoding scheme. As shown, a communication may be organized in three dimensions (e.g., width, length, and depth). In this way, systematic bits 465 may be checked in three dimension to identify decoding errors. For example, parity bits 470 may include first subsets 475 of parity bits, with each subset of the first subsets 475 associated with a different subset of the systematic bits 445 in a first dimension, may include second subsets 480 of parity bits, with each subset of the second subsets 480 associated with a different subset of the systematic bits in a second dimension, and may include third subsets 485 of parity bits, with each subset of the third subsets 485 associated with a different subset of the systematic bits in a third dimension. This allows the receiving WCD to locate an error of the systematic bits more easily relative to one or two dimensions of encoding. This may support error correction when there is a relatively high number of decoding errors expected (e.g., in a low-SNR scenario).
[0104] In some examples, the communication may include only parity bits 450 associated with the systematic bits 445. In other examples, the communication may further include parity bits for parity bits, as described in connection with example 420. In some examples, the parity bits for parity bits may include parity bits for parity bits in only one dimension, in two dimensions, or in three dimensions, etc.
[0105] As indicated above, Figs. 4A-4C is provided as an example. Other examples may differ from what is described with regard to Figs. 4A-4C.
[0106] As shown in Figs. 4A-4C and otherwise described herein, product code is an iterative code that improves coding gain of a non-iterative code such as BCH code or Reed Solomon code. In a product code encoding scheme a transmitting WCD orders data in a square ordering of bits (e.g., as shown in example 415) and encoding k rows and k columns with a regular BCH, RS, or other code (e.g., example 415 with only systematic bits 420, parity bits 425 and parity bits 430).
[0107] The transmitting WCD may transmit the systematic bits and the parity bits of the rows and the columns for a decoder (e.g., a product code decoder) of a receiving WCD to process. The decoder starts decoding the rows and, if the decoder detects a mistake, the decoder continues to decode the columns. This is considered one iteration. If the decoder fails (e.g., errors remain uncorrected), the decoder may begin a second iteration by re-decoding the rows (e.g., after the first iteration, part of the bits are decoded, so the second iteration needs to correct fewer errors). For example, if one row was not decoded correctly, all the columns may have up to one error, which may be corrected with BCH, RS, or other codes. In some communications, a product code encoding scheme may add parity bits to the parity bits of the rows and / or columns as shown by the parity bits for parity bits 435 of example 415.
[0108] Product code may be a suitable coding method for communications with relatively high coding rates, as with some sub-terahertz (SubTHz) bands. When using product coding, an overall coding rate is approximately klri -l, and a coding rate of each row and column is k / n which is higher than the overall coding rate. Because the higher the code rate, the lower its power consumption, overall power consumption and complexity may be reduced.
[0109] Although a higher number of dimension of coding and / or adding parity bits to the parity bits may improve accuracy of a low SNR communication, the higher number of dimensions of coding an adding the parity bits to the parity bits decreases a number of available resources (e.g., resource elements) that may be used to carry a payload of the communication, which may reduce spectral efficiency. Alternatively, using too low of a number of dimensions of coding may increase an error rate of the communication, which may decrease spectral efficiency.
[0110] In some network, such as a SubTHz network, WCDs may communicate using a wide bandwidth (e.g., 4 GHz or more) that has portions with low SNR and portions with high SNR.In this case, a first number of dimensions of coding may be suitable for one or more first portions of a communication, and a second number of dimensions of coding and / or parity to the parity bits may be suitable for one or more second portions of the communication.[oni] Bit loading is a communication scheme where a communication includes different code rates with different constellations or that includes different rate matching features such as pruning. However, bit loading may have relatively high complexity at a receiver, in association with having different rate matching configurations per allocation, which may consume power and computing resources. Additionally, or alternatively, the performing bit loading with different rate matching configurations may cause increased latency in decoding, which may lead to communication errors associated with communication schedules.
[0112] In some aspects described herein, transmitting WCD may transmit a communication having different portions with different encoding schemes. For example, a first portion may have a first parity bit mapping scheme and a second parity bit mapping scheme where the first parity bit mapping scheme is different from a second parity bit mapping scheme. In some aspects, the first parity bit mapping scheme may be associated with a higher number of parity bits than the second parity bit mapping scheme. In this way, additional parity bits may be used for some portions of the communication (e.g., portions associated with relatively low SNR), while fewer parity bits may be used for other portions of the communication (e.g., portions associated with relatively high SNR). By using different parity bit mapping schemes for different portions of a communication, the communication may reduce decoding errors (e.g., relative to having a single parity bit mapping scheme with too few parity bits), reduce unnecessary overhead (e.g., relative to having a single parity bit mapping scheme with too many parity bits), and / or conserve power and / or computing resources that may have otherwise been used to decode the communication with different rate matching configurations, among other examples.
[0113] In some examples, a transmitting WCD may transmit a communication using a bandwidth that includes a low SNR region, a medium SNR region, and a high SNR region (e.g., high relative to the low SNR region). The transmitting WCD may apply a first parity bit mapping scheme to the low SNR region, having a product code with parity bits for parity bits. The transmitting WCD may apply a second parity bit mapping scheme to the medium SNR region, having a product code without parity bits for parity bits. The transmitting WCD may apply a third parity bit mapping scheme to the high SNR region, having no product code (e.g., with 1 -dimensional BCH applied).
[0114] In some aspects, a receiving WCD may receive an indication of a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) of a communication (e.g., received within a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH)) and may configure a code rate (e.g., BCH code rate) for decoding the communication. The receiving WCD may receive data signals via symbols and / or frequencyresources of a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH). The receiving WCD may receive and / or identify a code rate per allocation (e.g., portion with different code rates and / or parity bit mapping schemes). From the data signals, the receiving WCD may identify log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) of the data signals to obtain preliminary values per resource (e.g., resource element) of the data channel. The receiving WCD may identify a decoder mode vector that indicates which type of decoding is available per allocation (e.g., in association with an indication from a network node and / or parameters associated with the communication as observed by the receiving WCD).
[0115] The receiving WCD may identify whether a portion of the communication (e.g., an allocation) is associated with a high code rate (e.g., a code rate that satisfies a threshold). If so, the receiving WCD may decode the portion of the communication using a 1 -dimensional decoding (e.g., row decoding via a BCH or RS decoder). If not, the receiving WCD may identify whether the portion of the communicate is associated with a medium code rate. If so, the receiving WCD may decode the portion of the communication using a 2-dimensional decoding (e.g., row and column decoding via a BCH or RS decoder). However, in some aspects, the receiving WCD may first try using a 1 -dimensional decoding and, if the 1- dimensional decoding fails, may then use a second dimension decoding (e.g., also decode columns if an attempt using only rows fails). If the 2-dimensional decoding fails but still corrects one or more bits, the receiving WCD may perform another iteration of 2-dimensional decoding (e.g., including first attempting to decode the communication using the 1-dimensional decoding and then attempting to decode the communication using the second dimension). The receiving WCD may perform iterations until a limit of iterations is reached or until the decoding is successful (e.g., passes a parity check).
[0116] If the receiving WCD identifies the portion of the communication as being associated with neither the high code rate nor the medium code rate, the receiving WCD may use a decoding scheme that includes parity bits on parity bits. In this case, the receiving WCD may attempt to decode a first dimension (e.g., all rows) with a 1-dimensional decoding (e.g., a BCH or RS decoder, among other examples). If the 1-dimensional decoding fails (e.g., fails a parity check), the receiving WCD may apply decoding on parity bits of the 1 -dimensional decoding (e.g., on all parity bit rows). If the decoding still fails, the receiving WCD may decode in a second dimension (e.g., on all columns). If the decoding still fails, the receiving WCD may decode parity bits on the second dimension (e.g., on all parity bit columns). If the decoding still fails, the receiving WCD may return to attempting the 1 -dimensional decoding and continue adding additional decoding operations until reaching a limit on iterations or until decoding succeeds.
[0117] In these examples, each decoding operation (e.g., on rows, columns, and / or parity bits) may use a single decoder, such as a BCH or RS decoder. Based at least in part on usingthe single decoder on each portion of the communication, including portions with different parity bit mapping schemes, the receiving WCD may decode with reduced complexity, which may conserve power and computing resources and / or may reduce latency associated with decoding the communication.
[0118] In some aspects, a UE (e.g., the transmitting WCD or the receiving WCD) may report (e.g., at connection establishment) an ability to support a configurable code per allocation of a communication. The UE may indicate in the report supported decoding options, such as without product code, with product code and with parity bits on parity bits, with product code and without parity bits on parity bits, or any other configuration that changes a coding rate and keeps a common decoding unit (e.g., BCH coding or RS coding). The UE may report desired gaps between each configuration per rank and / or per MCS, among other examples.
[0119] Once the UE is in connected mode, a network node may send different coding rate signaling by, for example, a vector of bits that represent a code rate per resource element, per resource block (RB), per subband, per code block, and / or per code block group, among other examples. In some aspects, the vector may be compressed. For example, the vector may indicate via differentiating adjacent values. According to a coherence bandwidth, adjacent subcarriers may have a relatively high correlation to have the same code rate. This may lead to a differentiating vector that is mostly zeros, which can efficiently be compressed using compression techniques such as Huffman compression. In some aspects, the report may indicate differentiation from a previous report to reduce nonzero values and enable further compression.
[0120] In some aspects, the network node may indicate the different coding rates via an indication of parameters for the UE to use to identify portions of a communication having different coding rates. For example, the network node may transmit an indication of multiple thresholds associated with one or more of channel energy values, capacity values, and / or SNR values that define ranges associated with different code rates. In some aspects, different configurations may have different thresholds and / or different code rates associated with satisfaction or failure to satisfy the thresholds.
[0121] In some aspects, the UE may identify the different coding rates for different portions of the communication based at least in part on an SRS channel estimation and a reciprocity assumption. In some aspects, the UE may identify the different coding rates based at least in part on CSF report associated with a downlink channel. In some aspects, the UE and / or the network node may indicate a desired code rate per allocation (e.g., portion of the communication).
[0122] In some aspects, the network node may indicate the different coding rates, thresholds, and / or parameters for the UE to identify the different coding rates, with the indication being within a RRC message, MAC CE, and / or or downlink control information (DCI) (e.g.,according to a doppler spread). In some aspects, the network node may include the indication in a periodic communication and / or an aperiodic communication.
[0123] In some aspects, the UE transmit feedback associated with the indication of the different coding rates (e.g., and numbers of parity bits). For example, the UE may indicate whether a configuration of the different coding rates is acceptable or unacceptable for the UE. In some examples, the UE may collect statistics of numbers of iterations of each region and whether decoding passed based at least in part on the different coding rates.
[0124] Although described in context of a UE and network node, or a transmitting WCD and a receiving WCD, the features described may be used within a backhaul network, such as between one or more IAB nodes to optimize a link between a master network node and a slave network node. Additionally, or alternatively, the features described may be used in association with physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmissions with a network node configuration of the UE PUSCH code rate per allocation.
[0125] Fig. 5 is a diagram of an example 500 associated with using multiple parity bit mapping schemes for a communication, in accordance with the present disclosure. As shown in Fig. 5, a first WCD (e.g., UE 120, network node 110, an IAB node, a CU, a DU, and / or an RU) may communicate with a second WCD (e.g., UE 120, network node 110, an IAB node, a CU, a DU, and / or an RU). In some aspects, the first WCD and the second WCD may be part of a wireless network (e.g., wireless network 100). The first WCD and the second WCD may have established a wireless connection prior to operations shown in Fig. 5.
[0126] As shown by reference number 505, the first WCD may transmit, and the second WCD may receive, configuration information. In some aspects, the second WCD may receive the configuration information via one or more of system information (e.g., a master information block (MIB) and / or a system information block (SIB), among other examples), RRC signaling, one or more MAC CEs, and / or DCI, among other examples.
[0127] In some aspects, the configuration information may indicate one or more candidate configurations and / or communication parameters. In some aspects, the one or more candidate configurations and / or communication parameters may be selected, activated, and / or deactivated by a subsequent indication. For example, the subsequent indication may select a candidate configuration and / or communication parameter from the one or more candidate configurations and / or communication parameters. In some aspects, the subsequent indication (e.g., an indication described herein) may include a dynamic indication, such as one or more MAC CEs and / or one or more DCI messages, among other examples.
[0128] In some aspects, the configuration information may indicate that the second WCD is to transmit an indication of support for multiple parity bit mapping schemes (e.g., with different coding rates) for different portions (e.g., allocations) of a communication.
[0129] The second WCD may configure itself based at least in part on the configuration information. In some aspects, the second WCD may be configured to perform one or more operations described herein based at least in part on the configuration information.
[0130] As shown by reference number 510, the second WCD may transmit, and the first WCD may receive, a capabilities report. The capabilities report may indicate whether the second WCD supports a feature and / or one or more parameters related to the feature. For example, the capability information may indicate a capability and / or parameters for receiving communications with different parity bit mapping schemes (e.g., having different code rates) for different portions of the communication (e.g., at different allocations). One or more operations described herein may be based on capability information of the capabilities report. For example, the second WCD may perform a communication in accordance with the capability information, or may receive configuration information that is in accordance with the capability information.
[0131] In some aspects, the configuration information described in connection with reference number 505 and / or the capabilities report may include information transmitted via multiple communications. Additionally, or alternatively, the first WCD may transmit the configuration information, or a communication including at least a portion of the configuration information, before and / or after the second WCD transmits the capabilities report. For example, the first WCD may transmit a first portion of the configuration information before the capabilities report, the second WCD may transmit at least a portion of the capabilities report, and the first WCD may transmit a second portion of the configuration information after receiving the capabilities report.
[0132] As shown by reference number 515, the second WCD may transmit, and the first WCD may receive, an indication of support for multiple parity bit mapping schemes and / or parameters supported or requested. In some aspects, the second WCD may transmit the indication of support via an RRC message, a MAC CE, uplink control information (UCI), and / or the capabilities report described in connection with reference number 510. In some aspects, the indication of support may be associated with a communication, a set of communications, a window of time, and / or a bandwidth, among other examples.
[0133] In some aspects, the indication of the parameter supported or requested may include an indication of a requested frequency domain gap between the multiple parity bit mapping schemes. For example, the second WCD may indicate that, to support the multiple parity bit mapping schemes, a gap in a frequency domain is requested for the second WCD to isolate the portions of the communication having different parity bit mapping schemes. In some aspects, the indication may indicate requested frequency domain gap for different ranks, an indication of the requested frequency domain gap for different MCSs, requested frequency domain gap fordifferent frequency ranges, and / or requested frequency domain gap for different bandwidth parts (BWPs).
[0134] As shown by reference number 520, the second WCD may receive, and the first WCD may transmit, an indication of assignments of parity bit mapping schemes to frequency ranges and / or parameters for identifying the assignments. In some aspects, the first WCD may transmit the indication of assignments via RRC signaling, MAC CE signaling, and / or DCI signaling. In some aspects, the indication of the assignments may indicate code rates and / or parity bit mapping schemes associated with resource elements, RBs, subbands, code blocks, and / or code block groups, among other examples.
[0135] In some aspects, the indication of the assignments may include a compressed indication. For example, the indication of the assignments may include an indication of a differential between subbands and / or a differential from a previously indicated assignment. In some aspects, the indication of the assignments may include a vector-based indication associated with different portions of a bandwidth (e.g., approximately equal portions).
[0136] In some aspects, the indication of the parameters for identifying the assignments may include an indication of one or more channel energy thresholds, one or more capacity thresholds, and / or one or more SNR thresholds.
[0137] In some aspects, the parity bit mapping schemes may be based at least in part on SRS channel estimation (e.g., an reciprocity), a CSF report, and / or an indication of UE-requested parity bit mapping schemes, among other examples. For example, the first WCD may use to SRS channel estimation, the CSF report, and / or the UE request to identify portions of the communication (e.g., and associated portions of a bandwidth) that are likely to have different SNRs as observed by the second WCD. The first WCD may assign the different parity bit mapping schemes to the different portions based at least in part on the SNRs (e.g., increased parity bits for low SNR portions and reduced parity bits for high SNR portions).
[0138] As shown by reference number 525, the second WCD may identify the assignments. In some aspects, the second WCD may identify the assignments based at least in part on an indication of the assignments, as indicated in connection with reference number 520 and / or 505. In some aspects, the second WCD may identify the assignments based at least in part on one or more parameters (e.g., indicated by the first WCD or indicated to the first WCD, among other examples). For example, the second WCD may identify the parity bit mapping schemes based at least in part on one or more channel energy thresholds (e.g., in comparison with one or more channel energies measured in the portions), one or more channel capacity thresholds (e.g., in comparison with one or more capacities based at least in part on measurements in the portions), and / or one or more SNR thresholds (e.g., in comparison with one or more SNRs measured in the portions), among other examples.
[0139] In some aspects, a first parity bit mapping scheme may be associated with a first number of dimensions of parity bits and / or a first number of parity bits. In some aspects, the second parity bit mapping scheme may be associated with a second number of dimensions of parity bits and / or second number of parity bits (e.g., different from the first number of dimensions of parity bits and / or the first number of parity bits). Similarly, the first parity bit mapping scheme may be associated with a first code rate and the second parity bit mapping scheme may be associated with a second code rate that is different from the first code rate.
[0140] As shown by reference number 530, the second WCD may receive, and the first WCD may transmit, a communication. Receiving the communication may include receiving the communication via a bandwidth that includes multiple portions (e.g., allocations). The multiple portions may be associated with different SNRs. In some aspects, the multiple portions may be defined by SNRs, capacities, and / or reception energy as measured and / or observed by the second WCD. In some aspects, the multiple portions may be defined by an indication from the second WCD or the first WCD.
[0141] In some aspects, the communication may have a first parity bit mapping scheme (e.g., applied to a first portion) and a second parity bit mapping scheme (e.g., applied to a second portion). In some aspects, the first parity bit mapping schemes may be associated with a first subcarrier and the second parity bit mapping schemes may be associated with a second subcarrier. In some aspects, the communication may have additional parity bit mapping schemes applied to additional portions of the communication (e.g., to additional portions of a bandwidth on which the first WCD transmitted the communication).
[0142] As shown by reference number 535, the second WCD may apply a decoder to a first portion of the communication having a first parity bit mapping scheme and to a second portion of the communication having a second parity bit mapping scheme. For example, the second WCD may apply a same decoder to the first portion and to the second portion. In some aspects, the second WCD may apply the same decoder a different number of times (e.g., iterations and / or in a number of dimensions, among other examples) while decoding the first portion than while decoding the second portion, or may support application of the same decoder a different number of times even if not all of the supported applications are used (e.g., if decoding succeeds before decoding in all supported dimension). In some aspects, the decoder may be a BCH decoder or an RS decoder
[0143] As shown by reference number 540, the second WCD may transmit, and the first WCD may receive, an indication of decoding success. In some aspects, the second WCD may indicate, via an indication of the decoding success, whether the indication of assignments and / or parameters for identifying the assignments is effective for balancing a reduction of errors and low code rates.
[0144] By using different parity bit mapping schemes for different portions of a communication, the communication may reduce decoding errors (e.g., relative to having a single parity bit mapping scheme with too few parity bits), reduce unnecessary overhead (e.g., relative to having a single parity bit mapping scheme with too many parity bits), and / or conserve power and / or computing resources that may have otherwise been used to decode the communication with different rate matching configurations, among other examples.
[0145] As indicated above, Fig. 5 is provided as an example. Other examples may differ from what is described with respect to Fig. 5.
