Description

An emulsifiable concentrate containing saflufenacil and clethodim and a preparation method thereof

[0001] This application claims priority to a Chinese patent application filed with the Patent Office of China on September 22, 2023, with application number 2023112434015 and invention name “A kind of emulsifiable concentrate containing benzylsulfuron and clethodim and preparation method thereof”, the entire contents of which are incorporated by reference into this application. Technical Field

[0002] The present invention relates to the technical field of pesticides, and in particular to an emulsifiable concentrate containing saflufenacil and clethodim and a preparation method thereof. Background Art

[0003] After harvest, farmland enters a fallow period, during which weed control is necessary. Glyphosate is the primary weed control agent for non-arable land and fallow periods. With the increasing incidence of glyphosate-resistant weeds, glyphosate-resistant weeds require secondary weed control after spraying. Glyphosate alone is no longer sufficient for controlling resistant weeds. Furthermore, secondary weed control requires a high-quality herbicide composition, requiring rapid onset, excellent weed control, a short half-life in the soil, and no impact on the next crop.

[0004] Saflufenacil (N′-{2-chloro-4-fluoro-5-[1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-3-methyl-2,6-dioxo-4-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidin-1-yl]benzoyl}-N-isopropyl-N-methanesulfonamide) is a protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) inhibitor that is absorbed by plant roots and seedlings. Upon absorption, chloroplast pigments bleach, tissue necrosis occurs, and growth is inhibited, ultimately leading to plant death. It can be used as a lethal herbicide, effectively controlling a variety of broadleaf weeds, including those resistant to glyphosate, ALS inhibitors, and triazine inhibitors.

[0005] Clethodim ((E)-2-[1-(3-chloroallyloxyimino)propyl]-5-[2-(ethylthio)propyl]-3-hydroxycyclohex-2-enone) is a systemic foliar treatment. After foliar application, it is rapidly absorbed by the leaves and transported to the meristem and roots, disrupting cell division and inhibiting meristem activity. Within 1 to 3 weeks of application, the plants become chlorotic and necrotic, followed by leaf dryness and death. Clethodim is suitable for use in broadleaf fields such as soybeans, rapeseed, tobacco, cotton, peanuts, and flax. It can control over 30 grass weed species, including barnyard grass, hard grass, crabgrass, wild oats, foxtail grass, foxtail grass, goosegrass, and bluegrass. It decomposes easily in the soil, has low soil activity, and has a short duration of action, with no impact on subsequent crops.

[0006] Clethodim has the advantages of high efficiency, safety, high selectivity, and pollution-free. It can control grass (pointed-leaf) weeds in broad-leaf crop fields such as soybeans, rapeseed, cotton, and peanuts. It can effectively control grass weeds such as wild oats, crabgrass, foxtail grass, goosegrass, bluegrass, and hard grass. Clethodim has a very short half-life in the soil and is easily decomposed into safe substances in the soil, making it very safe for subsequent crops and the environment. As weeds continue to develop resistance to glyphosate, mixing clethodim with glyphosate can be used as a means of dealing with and resisting glyphosate resistance. Take goosegrass as an example. Its root system is well-developed and deep, and its drought tolerance and growth capacity are particularly strong. Glyphosate is generally used for control. However, due to the resistance caused by large-scale and long-term use of glyphosate, the control effect is poor. Clethodim is particularly effective in controlling goosegrass of the grass family. Spraying clethodim mixed with glyphosate has become a "special weapon" for controlling goosegrass.

[0007] The combination of saflufenacil and clethodim can kill grass and broadleaf weeds, and is particularly effective against glyphosate-resistant weeds. However, due to differences in solubility, saflufenacil is difficult to dissolve. While it can be dissolved using highly polar solvents, dilution to the intended concentration can result in the precipitation of active ingredient crystals, clogging the nozzle and compromising efficacy. The choice of solvent also affects the stability of clethodim during the saflufenacil dissolution process, resulting in a high decomposition rate and poor efficacy. This means that there is currently no stable formulation for saflufenacil and clethodim combinations.

[0008] How to solve the stability problem of sethoxydim and avoid the solvent that dissolves saflufenacil causing an increase in the decomposition rate of sethoxydim is a current industry problem.

[0009] Summary of the Invention

[0010] In view of this, the technical problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide an emulsifiable concentrate containing saflufenacil and clethodim and a preparation method thereof, which has high stability.

[0011] To achieve the above object, the present invention provides an emulsifiable concentrate containing saflufenacil and clethodim, which comprises, by mass percentage:

[0020] More preferably, the emulsifier is a composite emulsifier of a first emulsifier and a second emulsifier. The first emulsifier is preferably calcium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, and the second emulsifier is preferably castor oil polyoxyethylene ether or Tween 80. The second emulsifier is more preferably castor oil polyoxyethylene ether.

[0021] The mass ratio of the first emulsifier to the second emulsifier is preferably 1:1 to 1:7, more preferably 1:2 to 1:7, further preferably 1:3 to 1:6, and most preferably 3:10 to 2:11.

[0022] In some specific embodiments of the present invention, the emulsifier is a compound emulsifier of calcium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and castor oil polyoxyethylene ether.

[0023] The mass content of the calcium dodecylbenzenesulfonate in the emulsifiable concentrate is preferably 2% to 3%, and the mass content of the castor oil polyoxyethylene ether in the emulsifiable concentrate is preferably 10% to 11%.

[0024] In some specific embodiments of the present invention, the emulsifier is a compound emulsifier of 2% calcium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and 11% castor oil polyoxyethylene ether.

[0025] In some specific embodiments of the present invention, the emulsifier is a compound emulsifier of 3% calcium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and 10% castor oil polyoxyethylene ether.

[0026] The test results show that when calcium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and castor oil polyoxyethylene ether are used as emulsifiers, especially when the content of calcium dodecylbenzenesulfonate is 2% and the content of castor oil polyoxyethylene ether is 11%, the prepared emulsifiable concentrate has higher water adaptability and stability, and the decomposition rate of clethodim is the lowest.

[0034] In some specific embodiments of the present invention, the synergist is 3% of fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether and 3% of sodium dioctyl sulfosuccinate.

[0035] Clethodim requires synergistic treatment to fully exert its efficacy, but synergists can affect its stability. Test results show that when synergists are fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether and sodium dioctyl sulfosuccinate, the synergistic effect is maximized without affecting the decomposition rate of clethodim. This optimizes the overall performance of the emulsifiable concentrate, especially its stability, and ensures its efficacy.

[0036] Especially when the content of fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether is 2% and the content of sodium diethyl sulfosuccinate is 5%, the prepared emulsifiable concentrate has higher water adaptability and stability, and the decomposition rate of clethodim is the lowest.

[0041] In some specific embodiments of the present invention, the co-solvent is cyclohexanone and N,N-dimethyldecylamide.

[0042] The mass content of the cyclohexanone in the emulsifiable concentrate is preferably 5% to 15%, and the mass content of the N,N-dimethyldecylamide in the emulsifiable concentrate is preferably 10% to 20%.

[0043] In some specific embodiments of the present invention, the co-solvent is 5% cyclohexanone and 20% N,N-dimethyldecylamide.

[0044] In some specific embodiments of the present invention, the co-solvent is 15% cyclohexanone and 10% N,N-dimethyldecylamide.

[0045] In some specific embodiments of the present invention, the cosolvent is isophorone and N,N-dimethyldecylamide.

[0046] The mass content of the isophorone in the emulsifiable concentrate is preferably 5% to 10%, and the mass content of the N,N-dimethyldecylamide in the emulsifiable concentrate is preferably 20%.

[0048] In some specific embodiments of the present invention, the co-solvent is 10% isophorone and 20% N,N-dimethyldecylamide.

[0049] The experimental results show that when isophorone and N,N-dimethyldecylamide are used as cosolvents, the solvent combination of isophorone and N,N-dimethyldecylamide solves the solubility problem of saflufenacil. The prepared emulsifiable concentrate has qualified low-temperature stability and the emulsion has no crystallization, which is beneficial to the efficacy of saflufenacil. This combination has no effect on the stability of sethoxydim.

[0050] Especially when the isophorone content is 5% and the N,N-dimethyldecylamide content is 20%, the prepared emulsifiable concentrate has higher water adaptability and stability, and the decomposition rate of clethodim is the lowest.

[0051] The emulsifiable concentrate provided by the present invention further comprises a balance of solvent.

[0052] The solvent is preferably one or more of solvent oil 150#, solvent oil 200#, xylene, methyl oleate, and propylene carbonate, more preferably solvent oil 200# or methyl oleate, and further preferably solvent oil 200#.

[0053] The test results show that using solvent oil 200# can achieve higher water quality adaptability and stability, and the decomposition rate of clethodim is the lowest.

[0054] The present invention has no particular limitation on the preparation method of the emulsifiable concentrate, and the emulsifiable concentrate can be prepared according to methods well known to those skilled in the art.

[0055] Optionally, the present invention provides a method for preparing the above-mentioned emulsifiable concentrate containing saflufenacil and clethodim, comprising the following steps:

[0056] S1) mixing the solvent and the cosolvent, then adding saflufenacil and stirring to dissolve;

[0057] S2) adding an emulsifier and a synergist to the system obtained in S1), and stirring to obtain a homogeneous solution system;

[0058] S3) mixing and dissolving clethodim and the homogeneous solution system to obtain a homogeneous mixture.

[0059] The temperature during the stirring and dissolving stage in step S1) is preferably 20-40° C., and the stirring time is preferably 30-40 min.

[0060] In the step S2) of adding the emulsifier and synergist, the temperature is preferably 25-40° C., and the stirring time is preferably 30-40 min.

[0061] In the mixing and dissolving stage of step S3), the temperature is preferably 20-40° C., and stirring is preferably used to promote dissolution. The stirring time is preferably 30-40 minutes, until clethodim is dissolved.

[0062] The present invention optimizes process conditions based on the characteristics of clethodim. By adjusting the order of adding adjuvants, after adding the emulsifier and synergist, moisture is adsorbed by the adjuvant micelles, reducing the free moisture content. When clethodim is added at this time, it is difficult for clethodim to come into contact with moisture, avoiding hydrolysis and reducing the decomposition rate of clethodim. By controlling the temperature and adjusting the order of addition, the decomposition rate of clethodim is controlled, avoiding the impact of the processing on clethodim.

[0063] Compared with the prior art, the present invention provides an emulsifiable concentrate containing saflufenacil and clethodim, which comprises, by mass percentage, 5% to 60% of clethodim, 1% to 20% of saflufenacil, 10% to 20% of emulsifier, 5% to 20% of synergist, 10% to 35% of cosolvent, and the solvent is replenished to 100%.

[0064] The present invention solves the problem of precipitation of benzylpyrazone crystals and stability of clethodim when the emulsifiable concentrate is diluted with water and solves the problem of stability of clethodim by adjusting the solvent and auxiliary agent combination while ensuring the dissolution of benzylpyrazone. This combination has little effect on the stability of clethodim, and the decomposition rate of clethodim is stably controlled within 8.5%. It can ensure that the emulsifiable concentrate does not precipitate the original drug at the use concentration, without the risk of clogging the nozzle, which is conducive to the efficacy of benzylpyrazone. This combination simultaneously achieves improved stability of the active ingredient and enhanced formula synergy, which can ensure excellent efficacy performance. The improved stability of clethodim also extends the shelf life of the preparation. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0077] Table 2 Performance of saflufenacil and clethodim emulsifiable concentrates prepared in Examples 1-8 and Comparative Examples 1-2

[0078] It can be seen from the data in Table 2 that the emulsifiable concentrate products prepared in the examples of the present application are relatively stable in quality before and after heat storage, maintain excellent water adaptability, emulsion stability, and high stability of clethodim, and their performance is better than that of comparative examples 1-2.

[0079] Comparative Example 3

[0080] On the basis of Example 4, the emulsifier was replaced with 13% of styrylphenol polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene ether, and the other components and contents remained unchanged to prepare an emulsifiable concentrate. The preparation method was the same as the above example.

[0081] Comparative Example 4

[0082] On the basis of Example 4, the synergist was replaced with 7% alkyl polyglycoside (APG), and the other components and contents remained unchanged to prepare an emulsifiable concentrate. The preparation method was the same as the above example.

[0083] Comparative Example 5

[0084] On the basis of Example 4, the cosolvent was replaced with 25% benzyl alcohol, and the other components and contents remained unchanged to prepare an emulsifiable concentrate. The preparation method was the same as the above example.

[0086] On the basis of Example 4, the solvent was replaced with solvent oil 100#, and the other components and contents remained unchanged to prepare an emulsifiable concentrate. The preparation method was the same as the above example.

[0087] The properties of the emulsifiable concentrates prepared in Comparative Examples 3-6 were tested, and the results are shown in Table 3 below.

[0088] Table 3 Performance of saflufenacil and clethodim emulsifiable concentrates prepared in Comparative Examples 3-6

[0089] Comparative Examples 3-6 demonstrate, through single-factor control experiments, that the compounded emulsifier, synergist, cosolvent, and specific solvent of the present invention have a good effect on improving the stability of the emulsifiable concentrate.

[0090] Field test example: Efficacy test on weeds in fallow farmland

[0091] This experiment was conducted in Weifang, Shandong Province. The plots were divided into multiple plots, each separated by ridges.

[0092] The experimental plots were randomly arranged, and four treatments were set up, with a blank control and a pesticide treatment. Each treatment was replicated three times. The four treatments were: Treatment 1: water spray, blank control; Treatment 2: Examples 4, 5, and 8, and Comparative Examples 1 and 2; Treatment 3: Clethodim 24% EC; Treatment 4: Safensulfuron 70% WG.

[0093] The pesticide was applied once using a Gongnong-16 knapsack sprayer. 450 kg of the formulation was diluted with water per hectare, and the amount of solution was converted to the plot volume for even spraying. The weather during the trial was good, with an average daily temperature of 25-35.0°C. There was no rain on the day of application.

[0094] Thirty days after application, the control efficacy of each treatment on fresh weight of weeds was investigated. The results are shown in Table 4.

[0095] Method for investigating the fresh weight control effect of weeds:

[0096] 30 days after application, 4 points were randomly selected from each plot, with a depth of 0.25 m 2 , remove weeds, classify them and weigh their fresh weight, and calculate the weed control effect by fresh weight.

[0097] Table 4 Results of efficacy test on annual weeds in fallow land using various treatments

[0098] As can be seen from the test results in Table 4, the combination of saflufenacil and clethodim has a good control effect on grass weeds and broadleaf weeds in fallow farmland. Compared with the control agent, Examples 4, 5, 8 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2 show obvious synergistic effects. Specifically, when comparing Treatment 2 with the control agent Treatment 3, clethodim 24% EC, the two-element combination reduces the amount of medicine applied and increases the efficacy of the drug-resistant malignant weeds, Goosegrass and Setaria viridis, achieving the effect of increased efficiency and reduced application; and can also control broadleaf weeds. When comparing Treatment 2 with the control agent Treatment 4, saflufenacil 70% WG, the two-element combination has excellent effects in controlling grass weeds Goosegrass and Setaria viridis, and also plays a synergistic role in controlling broadleaf weeds.

[0099] From the comparison of the efficacy of each example and the comparative example, it can be seen that the choice of adjuvant has a significant impact on the performance of the active ingredients. Improper adjuvant selection will affect the efficacy of the combination of saflufenacil and clethodim. The control efficacy of Examples 4, 5, and 8 is significantly better than that of Comparative Examples 1 and 2.

[0100] The above embodiments are only intended to help understand the method and core concept of the present invention. It should be noted that, without departing from the principles of the present invention, a number of improvements and modifications may be made to the present invention by those skilled in the art, and such improvements and modifications also fall within the scope of protection of the claims of the present invention.
