Abstract

A wavelength switching method, a network node, and a system, which relate to the technical field of optical communications and are used for shortening the time consumed by wavelength switching. In the present application, network nodes pre-negotiate a wavelength therebetween by means of an electrical switching network, so as to notify two parties to prepare a corresponding communication wavelength; and before the current communication is completed, invalid data is sent, so as to prevent an optical module from an optical cutoff, thereby reducing the delay caused by optical cutoff recovery during wavelength switching. During the current communication, a sending side also sends invalid data to the next node to be communicated. Since a negotiation mechanism is used, a receiving side does not process data if a communication wavelength has not been negotiated. Only after negotiation and the current communication have been completed, the receiving side processes communication data sent from the next node to be communicated, thereby shortening the time consumed by wavelength switching. The present application supports reception for two wavelengths and selective reception between the two wavelengths, so as to select valid data for processing, thereby preventing an error code caused by mutual interference between optical signals of two wavelengths.

Technical Field

[0003] The present application relates to the field of optical communication technology, and in particular to a wavelength switching method, network node, and system. Background Art

[0004] In recent years, the rapid development of AI deep learning, especially the rapid growth of large AI models, has brought about enormous data and information processing demands, necessitating large-scale network clusters. Compared to electrical switching network clusters, optical switching network clusters offer high bandwidth, zero dynamic latency, and low power consumption, making them better suited to the development of AI clusters.

[0005] In optical switching network clusters, tunable wavelength optical modules are currently used to switch wavelengths based on demand to send data to different target network nodes. However, the current wavelength switching solution has the following problems:

[0006] However, wavelength switching involves wavelength switching time, which occurs after completing communication with the current network node. This wavelength switching time can include, for example, the physical wavelength switching time of the optical module and the fast connection recovery time (for example, the trans-impedance amplifier (TIA) convergence time).

[0007] Summary of the Invention

[0008] The embodiments of the present application provide a wavelength switching method, a network node, and a system for reducing wavelength switching time.

[0009] In a first aspect, an embodiment of the present application provides a wavelength switching method, which is applied to a first network node, the first network node being deployed in an optical switching communication system, the optical switching cluster scheduling system including a plurality of network nodes including the first network node, the plurality of network nodes being connected via an optical switching network, and the plurality of network nodes being connected via an electrical switching network; the plurality of network nodes also including at least a second network node and a third network node; the method comprising: the first network node and the second network node to be communicated are negotiated via the electrical switching network to adopt a first wavelength as the communication wavelength; the first network node sends a first optical signal of the first wavelength to the second network node via the optical switching network, and sends a first optical signal of the first wavelength to the third network node A second optical signal of a second wavelength is sent, and the communication wavelength of the third network node is the second wavelength; wherein the first optical signal carries first communication data required by the second network node, and the second optical signal carries invalid data; the third network node is the next network node to be communicated with after the first network node completes communication with the second network node; the first network node negotiates with the next third network node to be communicated with through the electrical switching network to adopt the second wavelength as the communication wavelength; after completing communication with the second network node, the first network node sends a third optical signal of the second wavelength to the third network node through the optical switching network, where the third optical signal carries the second communication data required by the third network node.

[0010] In this embodiment of the present application, by pre-negotiating the communication wavelength to be used, both communicating parties will activate the corresponding communication wavelength. During the current communication, the sending side will also send an optical signal to the next receiving node to communicate. However, due to the pre-negotiation, the receiving side will not process the data without the negotiated communication wavelength. The sending side will only send valid data for the negotiated wavelength. For the sending network node, there is no need to switch to another wavelength after completing the communication with the current network node, which can reduce the switching delay caused by wavelength switching.

[0011] In the embodiment of the present application, during the communication process between the first network node and the second network node, the communication wavelength is negotiated with the next network node to be communicated (the third network node). The communicating parties open the corresponding communication wavelengths, and start data transmission and processing after the current communication is completed.

[0012] In one possible design, the method further includes: upon completion of communication between the first network node and the second network node, exchanging a communication completion indication with the second network node via the optical switching network. In this solution, upon completion of communication between the two communicating parties, the two parties promptly notify the other party via the optical switching network, allowing each party to communicate with the next network node to be communicated with. Using the optical switching network notification, an indication can be added to the end of the data stream, eliminating the need for separate execution and improving resource utilization.

[0013] In one possible design, the method further includes: when the first network node completes communication with the second network node, interacting with the second network node through the electrical switching network to complete the communication indication.

[0014] In this solution, after completing a communication, both communicating parties promptly notify the other party via the electrical switching network, allowing each party to proceed with communication with the next network node to communicate. This solution eliminates the need to occupy data transmission resources, improves data transmission resource utilization, and reduces data transmission latency.

[0015] In one possible design, the first network node includes a processing unit and an optical module;

[0016] The first network node and the second network node to be communicated with negotiate through the electrical switching network that a communication wavelength to be adopted is a first wavelength, comprising:

[0017] The communication wavelength adopted by the first network node through the processing unit and the second network node to be communicated is negotiated via the electrical switching network as the first wavelength;

[0018] The first network node sends a first optical signal of the first wavelength to the second network node through the optical switching network, and sends a second optical signal of the second wavelength to the third network node, comprising:

[0019] The optical module of the first network node sends a first optical signal of the first wavelength to the second network node through the optical switching network, and sends a second optical signal of the second wavelength to the third network node.

[0020] In one possible design, the processing unit is a neural processing unit NPU.

[0021] In one possible design, the invalid data is the first communication data.

[0022] In a second aspect, an embodiment of the present application provides a wavelength switching method, which is applied to a third network node, wherein the third network node is deployed in an optical switching communication system, and the optical switching cluster scheduling system includes multiple network nodes including the third network node, and the multiple network nodes are connected through an optical switching network, and the multiple network nodes are also connected through an electrical switching network; the multiple network nodes also include at least a first network node and a fourth network node; the method includes: the communication wavelength adopted by the third network node and the fourth network node to be communicated is negotiated through the electrical switching network as a third wavelength; the third network node receives a fourth optical signal from the fourth network node through the optical switching network, and receives a second optical signal from the first network node; the communication wavelength of the fourth optical signal is the third wavelength, and the fourth optical signal carries the third The invention also provides a method for transmitting the third communication data required by the network node, wherein the communication wavelength of the second optical signal is the second wavelength, and the second optical signal carries invalid data; the first network node is the next network node to be communicated after the third network node completes communication with the fourth network node; the third network node processes the third communication data in the fourth optical signal and discards the invalid data in the second optical signal; the third network node and the next first network node to be communicated with negotiate through the electrical switching network to adopt the second wavelength as the communication wavelength, and after completing communication with the fourth network node, receives a third optical signal of the second wavelength from the first network node through the optical switching network, wherein the third optical signal carries the second communication data required by the third network node; and processes the second communication data in the third optical signal.

[0023] In this embodiment of the present application, for the third network node, while communicating with the fourth network node, the next network node to communicate with will also send data. However, this application uses a communication negotiation mechanism. Before the next network node to communicate with is negotiated, the third network node does not process the data from the next network node to communicate with. Only after the negotiation is completed and communication with the current network node is completed will the communication data sent by the first network node be processed. For the third network node, this also prepares the communication wavelength in advance, which can reduce the time consumed by wavelength switching.

[0024] In one possible design, the method further includes: when the third network node completes communication with the fourth network node, exchanging a communication completion indication with the fourth network node through the optical switching network.

[0025] In one possible design, the method further includes: when the third network node completes communication with the fourth network node, interacting with the fourth network node through the electrical exchange network to complete the communication indication.

[0026] In one possible design, the third network node includes a processing unit and an optical module; the communication wavelength adopted by the third network node and the fourth network node to be communicated through the electrical switching network is negotiated to be the third wavelength, including: the communication wavelength adopted by the third network node and the fourth network node to be communicated through the electrical switching network through the processing unit is negotiated to be the third wavelength; the third network node receives a fourth optical signal from the fourth network node through the optical switching network, and receives a second optical signal from the first network node, including: the optical module of the third network node receives the fourth optical signal from the fourth network node through the optical switching network, and receives the second optical signal from the first network node.

[0027] In one possible design, the third network node includes a network card, the optical module includes a first photodetector and a second photodetector; an operating wavelength of the first photodetector includes the third wavelength; an operating wavelength of the second photodetector includes the second wavelength; and an operating wavelength range of the first photodetector is different from an operating wavelength range of the second photodetector.

[0028] The third network node processes the third communication data in the fourth optical signal and discards invalid data in the fifth optical signal, including:

[0029] The network card only receives the third communication data from the first photoelectric detector and sends it to the processing unit for processing the third communication data;

[0030] The method further comprises:

[0031] The third network node negotiates with the next first network node to communicate through the electrical switching network to use the second wavelength as the communication wavelength, and after completing the communication with the second network node, notifies the network card through the processing unit to switch to receiving the second communication data only from the second photodetector.

[0032] For the network nodes at the receiving end, there are still bit errors caused by wavelength switching. For example, the communication between network node 1 and network node 2 ends (using wavelength 1), but network node 1 needs to continue to use wavelength 2 to communicate with network node 3. After network node 1 switches to wavelength 2, it sends an optical signal of wavelength 2 to network node 3. However, at this time, the communication between network node 3 and other network nodes has not yet ended, resulting in network node 3 receiving both the optical signal of wavelength 2 and the optical signal of other network nodes. The optical signals of the two wavelengths interfere with each other, which will cause bit errors. The solution provided by the embodiment of the present application supports dual-wavelength reception, switches between the two wavelengths, selects between the two wavelengths, selects valid data for processing, and prevents bit errors caused by mutual interference between the optical signals of the two wavelengths.

[0033] In addition, for the network nodes at the receiving end, there is currently a problem of optical module light failure caused by wavelength cutting. For example, the communication between network node 1 and network node 2 ends, but network node 2 needs to continue to communicate with network node 3 of wavelength 2. After network node 2 switches to wavelength 2, the communication between network node 3 and other nodes has not yet ended, resulting in no light entering network node 2. As a result, the optical module and other devices such as photodetectors will enter sleep mode after the light is cut off, and need to be restored after receiving the optical signal, resulting in a recovery delay. Using the solution provided in the embodiment of the present application, the network nodes to be communicated will negotiate before the next communication to notify the other party to prepare the corresponding communication wavelength, and will send invalid data to prevent the optical module from being broken, thereby reducing the wavelength cutting delay and improving communication efficiency.

The multiple network nodes are also connected through an electrical switching network; the multiple network nodes also include at least a first network node and a fourth network node; the third network node includes a processing unit and an optical module, wherein the processing unit is used to negotiate with the fourth network node to communicate through the electrical switching network that the communication wavelength adopted is a third wavelength; the optical module is used to receive a fourth optical signal from the fourth network node through the optical switching network, and receive a second optical signal from the first network node; the communication wavelength of the fourth optical signal is the third wavelength, and the fourth optical signal carries the third The third communication data required by the network node, the communication wavelength of the fifth optical signal is the fourth wavelength, and the second optical signal carries invalid data; the first network node is the next network node to be communicated after the third network node completes communication with the fourth network node; the processing unit is further used to process the third communication data in the fourth optical signal and discard the invalid data in the fifth optical signal; the optical module is further used to negotiate with the next first network node to be communicated with through the electrical switching network that the communication wavelength adopted is the second wavelength, and after completing communication with the second network node, receive a third optical signal of the second wavelength from the first network node through the optical switching network, the third optical signal carrying the second communication data required by the third network node; and process the second communication data in the third optical signal.

[0044] The network card is configured to receive the third communication data only from the first photoelectric detector during the communication between the first network node and the second network node, and send the third communication data to the processing unit for processing;

[0045] The processing unit is further configured to negotiate a communication wavelength to be adopted between the processing unit and the next first network node to be communicated with through the electrical switching network, and after completing communication with the second network node, notify the network card to switch to receiving the second communication data only from the second photodetector.

[0046] For the network nodes at the receiving end, there are still bit errors caused by wavelength switching. The solution provided by the embodiment of the present application supports dual-wavelength reception, switches between the two wavelengths, selects between the two wavelengths, selects valid data for processing, and prevents bit errors caused by mutual interference between the optical signals of the two wavelengths.

[0047] In addition, for the network nodes at the receiving end, there is currently a problem of optical module light failure caused by wavelength cutting.

[0068] The technical solutions in the embodiments of the present application will be described below in conjunction with the drawings in the embodiments of the present application.

[0069] In the description of this application, unless otherwise specified, "plurality" means two or more than two. Furthermore, " / " indicates that the objects associated with each other are in an "or" relationship. For example, A / B can mean A or B. "And / or" in this application merely describes an association relationship between associated objects, indicating that three possible relationships exist. For example, "A and / or B" can mean: A exists alone, A and B exist simultaneously, or B exists alone. A and B can be singular or plural. Furthermore, to facilitate the clear description of the technical solutions of the embodiments of this application, the words "first" and "second" are used in the embodiments of this application to distinguish between identical or similar items with substantially the same functions and effects. Those skilled in the art will understand that words such as "first" and "second" do not limit the quantity or order of execution, and do not necessarily define differences. It should also be noted that, unless otherwise specified, the specific description of certain technical features in one embodiment can also be used to explain the corresponding technical features mentioned in other embodiments.

[0070] The technical solution of the present application can be applied to scenarios such as artificial intelligence (AI) deep learning, optical switching clusters, digital central networks, or industrial Internet of Things. For example, the technical solution provided by the present application can be used in optical switching communication systems that use optical switching to achieve communication in these scenarios. The optical switching communication system includes network nodes, and the network nodes are connected through an optical switching network. The network nodes can be servers, virtual machines, hosts, or other electronic devices that use optical switching to achieve communication.

[0071] As can be seen from the background technology, in the current optical switching network cluster, an adjustable wavelength optical module is used to perform wave cutting to send data to different target network nodes. Referring to Figure 1, it is a structural schematic diagram of an optical switching communication system. The optical switching communication system includes multiple servers, and multiple servers communicate through an optical switch. In Figure 1, N+K servers are taken as an example. The adjustable wavelength optical module is deployed in the server. The adjustable wavelength optical module includes a multi-wavelength emission source (multi-wavelength source) and a wavelength selector (wavelength selector). The server transmits an optical signal of multiple wavelengths through the multi-wavelength emission source, and the wavelength selector selects an optical signal of a corresponding wavelength from the optical signal of multiple wavelengths to use the optical signal of the wavelength to send data to the target server. As can be seen from the above, from the perspective of transmission, the server needs physical wave cutting time. From the perspective of the receiving side, the optical module of the receiving side includes a photodetector and a cross-group amplifier, and the optical signal after detection by the photodetector is processed by the cross-group amplifier. After the receiving side receives the signal of one server, it needs to receive the signal of another server. The wavelengths of the optical signals received from different servers are different, so that the photodetector and the cross-group amplifier both need to perform wavelength switching. As can be seen from the above, from the receiving perspective, the server also requires physical wave cutting time and convergence time across groups of amplifiers.

[0072] Based on this, the embodiments of the present application provide a wavelength switching method, network node, and system for solving the problem of time-consuming wavelength switching. The optical switching communication system can also be called an optical switching cluster scheduling system, and other names can also be used, which are not limited by the embodiments of the present application.

[0073] Referring to Figure 2, a structural diagram of the optical switching communication system provided in an embodiment of the present application is shown. The optical switching communication system includes multiple network nodes, and Figure 2 takes n+k network nodes as an example. Multiple network nodes are connected through an optical switching network. Multiple network nodes are also connected through an electrical switching network. Exemplarily, the optical switching network and the electrical switching network are deployed in the optical switching communication system. The optical switching network can be implemented by an optical switch or by an optical network composed of multiple devices / components. The optical switch can also be a wavelength-sensitive optical cross connect (WS-OXC), a reconfigurable optical add / drop multiplexer (ROADM), a wavelength cross connector (WXC), an optical switching node, or a wavelength switching node, etc., which is not specifically limited in the embodiments of the present application. The optical switching network can be implemented based on wavelength division technologies such as wavelength selective switch (WSS), arrayed waveguide grating (AWG), and arrayed waveguide grating router (AWGR). The optical switching network can be implemented based on wavelength division technology. If the wavelengths of the optical signals received by the optical switching network are different, the optical signals with different wavelengths can be transmitted along different paths within the optical switching network, thereby allowing the optical signals with different wavelengths to be output through different output ports of the optical switching network.

[0074] Among the multiple network nodes of the optical switching communication system, the multiple network nodes can communicate with each other through the electrical switching network before actual communication. The corresponding network nodes to be communicated are notified in advance to open the communication wavelength to be used to receive communication data. For the network node at the transmitting end, a multi-wavelength transmitter is used, and both dual-wave modulations send data. For the current target network node, the communication data sent is valid data, and for the next network node to be communicated, invalid data is sent. In the process of communicating with the current network node to be communicated, the communication wavelength to be adopted is negotiated with the next network node to be communicated. Compared with switching the wavelength after the current communication is completed, the switching delay caused by cutting the wavelength can be reduced. For the network node at the receiving end, in the process of communicating with the current network node to be communicated, the communication wavelength to be adopted is negotiated with the next network node to be communicated. Compared with switching the wavelength after the current communication is completed, the switching delay caused by cutting the wavelength can be reduced.

[0075] The following describes the solution provided in the embodiment of the present application from the perspectives of the sending end and the receiving end respectively.

[0076] First, the solution provided by the embodiment of the present application will be described from the perspective of the transmitting end. FIG3 is a flow chart of a wavelength switching method provided by the embodiment of the present application. FIG3 takes the example of multiple network nodes including at least a first network node, a second network node, and a third network node.

[0077] 301. A first network node and a second network node to be communicated with each other negotiate via an electrical switching network to adopt a first wavelength as the communication wavelength.

[0078] For example, the first network node sends a negotiation request signal to the second network node through the electrical switching network, and the second network node may send a negotiation confirmation signal to the first network node through the electrical switching network to complete the negotiation between the first network node and the second network node.

[0079] 302. A first network node sends a first optical signal at a first wavelength to a second network node via an optical switching network. The first optical signal carries first communication data required by the second network node. The communication data required by the second network node can also be understood as communication data between the first network node and the second network node.

[0080] 303. The first network node transmits a second optical signal at a second wavelength to a third network node via the optical switching network. The third network node communicates at the second wavelength. The second optical signal carries invalid data. The third network node is the next network node to communicate with after the first network node completes communication with the second network node.

[0081] In some embodiments, the invalid data may be all-0 data or setting data, or may be the first communication data. Since the second optical signal is a signal sent to the third network node, the first communication data carried by the second optical signal is invalid data for the third network node.

[0082] Exemplarily, the second optical signal and the first optical signal carry the same first communication data. For the first network node, the same data is sent using dual wavelengths, one of the dual wavelengths is the communication wavelength of the current network node to be communicated, and the other wavelength is the communication wavelength of the next network node to be communicated.

[0083] 304 , the first network node negotiates with the next third network node to be communicated with via the electrical switching network to adopt the second wavelength as the communication wavelength.

[0084] 305 , after completing communication with the second network node, the first network node sends a third optical signal of a second wavelength to a third network node through the optical switching network, where the third optical signal carries second communication data required by the third network node.

[0085] In some embodiments, upon completing communication with a second network node, a first network node may exchange a communication completion indication with the second network node via an optical switching network. For example, after all communication data that the first network node needs to send to the second network node has been successfully sent and / or all communication data that it needs to receive from the second network node has been successfully received, the first network node may send a communication completion indication to the second network node via the optical switching network. Similarly, after all communication data that the second network node needs to send to the first network node has been successfully sent and / or all communication data that it needs to receive from the first network node has been successfully received, the first network node may send a communication completion indication to the first network node via the optical switching network. For another example, when all communication data that the first network node needs to send to the second network node has been successfully sent and the second network node has successfully received all communication data, the first network node may send a communication completion indication to the second network node; and when all communication data that the second network node needs to send to the first network node has been successfully sent and the first network node has successfully received all communication data, the second network node may send a communication completion confirmation indication to the first network node. For another example, if a first network node needs to successfully receive all communication data received from a second network node, the first network node sends a communication completion indication to the second network node; and if a second network node needs to successfully receive all communication data received from the first network node, the second network node sends a communication completion indication to the first network node. For example, when exchanging communication completion indications via an optical switching network, the communication completion indications can be carried at the end of the communication data stream.

[0086] In some other embodiments, when the first network node completes the communication with the second network node, the first network node may exchange communication completion instructions with the second network node via the electrical switching network.

[0087] In this embodiment of the present application, for a transmitting network node, during communication with the current network node to be communicated with, invalid data is also sent to the next network node to be communicated with. Because this application utilizes a pre-communication negotiation mechanism, the next network node to be communicated with, which has not yet been negotiated, will not process the data. Furthermore, the transmitting network node does not need to switch to another wavelength after completing communication with the current network node, which can reduce the switching delay caused by wavelength switching.

[0088] It should be noted that a certain network node can be used as both a transmitter and a receiver, and this embodiment of the present application does not specifically limit this. The above description of the first network node is only exemplified from the perspective of the transmitter.

[0089] The following describes the solution provided in the embodiment of the present application from the perspective of the receiving end.

[0090] Referring to Figure 4, which is a flow chart of another wavelength switching method provided by an embodiment of the present application, Figure 4 takes the example of a plurality of network nodes including at least a first network node, a third network node, and a fourth network node.

[0091] 401. A third network node and a fourth network node to be communicated with negotiate through an electrical switching network that the communication wavelength to be adopted is a third wavelength.

[0092] 402. A third network node receives a fourth optical signal from a fourth network node via an optical switching network. The fourth optical signal has a third wavelength and carries third communication data required by the third network node.

[0093] 403. The third network node receives a second optical signal from the first network node via the optical switching network. The second optical signal has a second wavelength and carries invalid data. The first network node is the next network node to communicate with after the third network node completes communication with the fourth network node.

[0094] 404 : The third network node processes the third communication data in the fourth optical signal and discards invalid data in the second optical signal.

[0095] 405 , the third network node and the next first network node to communicate with each other negotiate through the electrical switching network that the communication wavelength to be used is the second wavelength.

[0096] 406. After completing the communication with the fourth network node, receive a third optical signal of the second wavelength from the first network node through the optical switching network, where the third optical signal carries the second communication data required by the third network node; and process the second communication data in the third optical signal.

[0097] In this embodiment of the present application, for the third network node, while communicating with the fourth network node, the next network node to communicate with will also send data.

[0098] The following describes the solution provided by an embodiment of the present application from the perspective of combining the transmitting end and the receiving end. Referring to Figure 5 , a schematic diagram of the wavelength switching process provided by an embodiment of the present application is shown. Figure 5 takes an optical switching communication system as an example, including at least a first network node, a second network node, a third network node, and a fourth network node. For ease of description, the current communication process is referred to as Cycle 1, and the next communication process is referred to as Cycle 2. It should be understood that the duration of the two cycles may or may not be the same.

[0099] Cycle 1: Communication between the first network node and the second network node. Communication between the third network node and the fourth network node. It should be understood that in the embodiments of the present application, each network node supports dual-wavelength reception, but only processes a single wavelength. For example, the first network node supports communication wavelengths λ11 and λ12, and the second network node supports wavelengths λ21 and λ22. The third network node supports communication wavelengths λ31 and λ32, and the fourth network node supports communication wavelengths λ41 and λ42.

[0100] In step 501a, a first network node and a second network node negotiate a communication wavelength via an electrical switching network. After negotiation, the first network node's current operating wavelength is λ11, and the second network node's current operating wavelength is λ21. Alternatively, after negotiation, the first network node activates the wavelength used for communication with the second network node, and the second network node activates the wavelength used for communication with the first network node.

[0101] In step 501b, the third network node and the fourth network node negotiate a communication wavelength via the electrical switching network. After negotiation, the third network node currently operates at a wavelength of λ31, and the fourth network node operates at a wavelength of λ41. This can also be understood as follows: after negotiation, the third network node activates the wavelength for communication with the fourth network node, and the fourth network node activates the wavelength for communication with the third network node.

[0102] In one possible implementation, the communication wavelengths used for communication between network nodes may be preconfigured. The order of interaction between network nodes in the optical switching communication system may be preconfigured in each network node by a network management device (or controller / control device) based on the application scenario of the optical switching communication system.

[0103] In step 502a, a first network node and a second network node transmit communication data to each other via an optical switching network. The optical signal sent by the first network node to the second network node has a wavelength of λ21, and the optical signal sent by the second network node to the first network node has a wavelength of λ11. The first network node parses the communication data from the optical signal with a wavelength of λ11 and processes the parsed communication data. The second network node parses the communication data from the optical signal with a wavelength of λ21 and processes the parsed communication data.

[0104] 503a, the first network node sends invalid data to the third network node. The wavelength of the optical signal carrying the invalid data sent by the first network node to the third network node is λ32.

[0105] Exemplarily, the third network node does not parse the invalid data from the optical signal of λ32, or does not perform photoelectric detection processing on the optical signal of λ32.

[0106] 502b, the third network node and the fourth network node send communication data to each other through the optical switching network. The wavelength of the optical signal sent by the third network node to the fourth network node is λ41, and the wavelength of the optical signal sent by the fourth network node to the third network node is λ31.

[0107] 503b, the third network node sends invalid data to the first network node. The wavelength of the optical signal carrying the invalid data sent by the third network node to the first network node is λ12.

[0108] Exemplarily, the first network node does not parse the invalid data from the optical signal of λ12, or does not perform photoelectric detection processing on the optical signal of λ12.

[0109] In some embodiments, during communication between the first network node and the second network node, and during communication between the third network node and the fourth network node, the two network nodes communicating with each other in the next cycle may negotiate a communication wavelength to notify each other to turn on the corresponding communication wavelength.

[0110] At step 504, the first network node and the third network node negotiate the communication wavelength to be used via the electrical switching network. After negotiation, the first network node activates wavelength λ12 for communication with the third network node, and the third network node activates wavelength λ32 for communication with the first network node.

[0111] In some embodiments, when the first network node turns on the communication wavelength λ12, the first network node may perform photoelectric detection processing on the optical signal of the communication wavelength λ12, but discard the detected communication data without performing any other processing. When the third network node turns on the communication wavelength λ32, the third network node may perform photoelectric detection processing on the optical signal of the communication wavelength λ32, but discard the detected communication data without performing any other processing.

[0112] 505a, after the first network node and the second network node complete the communication, they send communication completion indications to each other.

[0113] 505b, after the third network node and the fourth network node complete the communication, they send communication completion indications to each other.

[0114] Cycle 2: The first network node and the third network node communicate with each other and perform communication negotiation for the next cycle (eg, cycle 3).

[0115] 506. The first network node and the third network node transmit communication data to each other via the optical switching network. The optical signal sent by the third network node to the first network node has a wavelength of λ12, and the optical signal sent by the first network node to the third network node has a wavelength of λ32. The first network node parses the communication data from the optical signal with a wavelength of λ12 and processes the parsed communication data. The third network node parses the communication data from the optical signal with a wavelength of λ32 and processes the parsed communication data.

[0116] In some embodiments, the next network node to be communicated with by the first network node is a fourth network node, and the first network node may further send invalid data to the fourth network node. The next network node to be communicated with by the third network node is a second network node, and the third network node may further send invalid data to the second network node.

[0117] In some possible implementation scenarios, during communication between a first network node and a third network node, the two network nodes communicating with each other in the next cycle can negotiate a communication wavelength to notify each other to turn on the corresponding communication wavelength. For example, the first network node communicates with the fourth network node, and the second network node communicates with the third network node. The first network node and the fourth network node negotiate with each other via the electrical switching network, and the second network node and the third network node negotiate with each other via the electrical switching network, notifying each other that the corresponding communication wavelength needs to be turned on. The first network node and the fourth network node send invalid data to each other via the optical switching network, and the second network node and the third network node send invalid data to each other via the optical switching network.

[0118] 507, after the first network node and the third network node complete the communication, they send a communication completion indication to each other, thereby entering the next cycle and repeating the steps of cycle 1 and cycle 2 to perform communication between different nodes.

[0119] For the network nodes at the receiving end, there are still bit errors caused by wavelength switching.

[0120] In addition, for the network nodes at the receiving end, there is currently a problem of optical module light failure caused by wavelength cutting.

[0121] The structure of the network node is explained below. See Figure 6 for a schematic diagram of the structure of the network node provided in an embodiment of the present application. The network node includes a processing unit and an optical module. The processing unit is used to execute the optical scheduling algorithm to perform wavelength negotiation operations, thereby controlling the optical module to send optical signals of corresponding wavelengths, and to perform modulation operations on communication data on the optical signals. The processing unit is also used for iterative changes in the communication destination of the optical switching communication system, and to adjust the dual-wavelength selection of the transmitting end according to the destination of this cycle and the next cycle. The optical module can modulate the data to be communicated onto the dual wavelengths, and the same data can be sent on the dual wavelengths, one of which is sent to the current target network node, that is, valid data, and the other is sent to the next target network node, that is, invalid data.

[0122] The processing unit may include at least one of the following: an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), a central processing unit (CPU), a Tensor processing unit (TPU) for machine learning computing tasks, a graphics processing unit (GPU), a neural-network processing unit (NPU), or other types of processing units. In some embodiments, the network node is used in an AI scenario, and the processing unit may include an NPU or be an NPU.

[0123] In some embodiments, as shown in FIG6 , the network node further includes a network interface card (NIC). The network node can preprocess electrical signals (e.g., convert digital signals into analog signals) using the NIC. The processing unit can also control the NIC to determine which wavelength carries the optical signal carrying the parsed communication data. Furthermore, under the control of the processing unit, the NIC determines which wavelength carries the optical signal carrying the communication data from the optical module.

[0124] In some embodiments, the optical module includes a transmitting unit and a receiving unit. The transmitting unit is configured to perform dual-wavelength transmission, and the receiving unit is configured to perform dual-wavelength reception.

[0125] As an example, as shown in FIG7 , the receiving unit may include two photoelectric detectors (PDs), namely a first photoelectric detector and a second photoelectric detector. The first photoelectric detector and the second photoelectric detector have different operating wavelengths. In some embodiments, the receiving unit may further include a demultiplexer, which is configured to separate two optical signals corresponding to wavelengths from the received optical signal and send them to the photodetectors of the corresponding wavelengths. The two photodetectors perform photoelectric detection processing on the received optical signals of the corresponding wavelengths.

[0126] As another example, as shown in FIG8 , the transmitting unit may include multiple laser emitters (lasers), multiple semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs), multiplexers, and modulators. Different laser emitters emit optical signals of different wavelengths. Multiple semiconductor optical amplifiers correspond one-to-one to multiple laser emitters. On the one hand, the semiconductor optical amplifier can amplify and process the received optical signal, and on the other hand, it can also be used as an optical switch. Under the control of the processing unit, the semiconductor optical amplifier is partially turned on and partially turned off. For example, the SOA corresponding to the laser emitter that emits the optical signal of the wavelength required by the current target network node is turned on, and the SOA corresponding to the laser emitter that emits the optical signal of the wavelength of the next target network node is turned on, and the remaining SOAs are turned off. The multiplexer is used to multiplex the laser signals of two wavelengths into one optical signal, and then the modulator modulates the communication data (analog data) sent by the network card onto the optical signal.

[0127] In some embodiments, multiple laser transmitters emitting different wavelengths can be replaced by other transmission structures, such as an optical frequency comb + demultiplexer. The optical frequency comb transmits an optical signal comprising multiple wavelengths, and the demultiplexer then demultiplexes the optical signal into multiple optical signals of different wavelengths.

[0128] In some other embodiments, the modulator + multiplexer structure can be replaced with other structures, such as multiple modulators + multiplexers, where the multiple modulators are connected to multiple SOAs in a one-to-one correspondence, and the multiplexer is used to multiplex the optical signals output by the multiple modulators into one optical signal. In some embodiments, the SOA can also be replaced with another device that can function as an optical switch. This is not specifically limited in the present embodiment.

[0129] It should be noted that the optical module may also include more or fewer components than those shown in FIG. 8 , and this embodiment of the present application does not specifically limit this.

[0130] The network node in the embodiment of the present application may also include more devices than those in Figure 6. For example, in the AI scenario, the processing unit is an NPU, and it may also include a central processing unit (CPU), as shown in Figure 9, which is used to centrally schedule and manage the functions performed by the network node.

[0131] The following describes the wavelength switching method process provided by the embodiment of the present application in conjunction with the structure of the network node shown in Figure 6. An optical switching communication system including a first network node, a second network node, a third network node, and a fourth network node is taken as an example. The above four network nodes all adopt the structure shown in Figure 6, as shown in Figure 10. For ease of description, the communication process is referred to as a cycle. Taking two cycles as an example, the current communication process is referred to as cycle 1, and the next communication process is referred to as cycle 2. In cycle 1, the first network node communicates with the second network node, and the third network node communicates with the fourth network node. In cycle 2, the first network node communicates with the third network node as an example.

[0132] Cycle 1: Communication between the first network node and the second network node. Communication between the third network node and the fourth network node. For example, the first network node supports wavelengths λ11 and λ12. PD1 of the first network node operates at wavelength λ11, and PD2 operates at wavelength λ12. The second network node supports wavelengths λ21 and λ22. PD1 of the second network node operates at wavelength λ21, and PD2 operates at wavelength λ22. The third network node supports wavelengths λ31 and λ32. PD1 of the third network node operates at wavelength λ31, and PD2 operates at wavelength λ32. The fourth network node supports wavelengths λ41 and λ42. PD1 of the fourth network node operates at wavelength λ41, and PD2 operates at wavelength λ42.

[0133] As shown in Figure 10, the processing unit in a first network node negotiates a communication wavelength with the processing unit in a second network node via an electrical switching network. After negotiation, the first network node's current operating wavelength is λ11, and the second network node's operating wavelength is λ21. Specifically, the processing unit in the first network node controls PD1 through the network interface card (NIC) and notifies the NIC to receive communication data from PD1. If there are no other communication tasks, the NIC in the first network node starts receiving communication data from PD1. Similarly, the NIC in the second network node, under the control of the processing unit, starts receiving communication data from PD1 of the second network node. The processing unit in a third network node negotiates a communication wavelength with the processing unit in a fourth network node via the electrical switching network. After negotiation, the third network node's current operating wavelength is λ31, and the fourth network node's operating wavelength is λ41. Specifically, the processing unit in the third network node controls PD1 through the NIC and notifies the NIC to receive communication data from PD1. If there are no other communication tasks, the NIC in the third network node starts receiving communication data from PD1. Similarly, under the control of the processing unit, the network card of the fourth network node starts to receive communication data from PD1 of the fourth network node.

[0134] Furthermore, the first network node and the second network node send communication data to each other through the optical switching network, and the third network node and the fourth network node send communication data to each other through the optical switching network.

[0135] In cycle 1, the first network node sends communication data to the second network node while simultaneously sending invalid data to the third network node. Specifically, the processing unit of the first network node sends the first communication data to be transmitted to the network interface card (NIC). The NIC preprocesses the first communication data and then sends it to the modulator of the optical module. Laser signals transmitted by the laser transmitter operating at wavelengths λ21 and λ32 in the first network node enter the modulator of the first network node. The modulator then modulates the first communication data onto an optical signal consisting of wavelengths λ21 and λ32 and transmits it. The optical switching network then switches the optical signal with wavelength λ21 to the second network node and the optical signal with wavelength λ32 to the third network node.

[0136] In cycle 1, the fourth network node also sends communication data to the third network node. Specifically, the processing unit of the fourth network node sends the third communication data to the network interface card (NIC). The NIC preprocesses the third communication data and then sends it to the modulator of the optical module. The laser signal transmitted by the laser transmitter operating at wavelength λ31 in the fourth network node enters the modulator of the fourth network node. The modulator then modulates the fourth communication data onto an optical signal including wavelength λ31 and transmits it. The optical switching network then switches the optical signal with wavelength λ31 to the third network node and switches the optical signal with wavelength λ31 to the third network node.

[0137] For the third network node, since PD2 is not started, PD2 does not parse the optical signal with wavelength λ32. PD1 is in working state, PD1 parses the optical signal with wavelength λ31 and sends the parsed third communication data to the network card, which then processes the third communication data.

[0138] In cycle 1, the first network node and the third network node negotiate the communication wavelength to be used via the electrical switching network. After negotiation, the processing unit in the first network node controls PD2 to turn on via the network interface card (NIC). Under the control of the processing unit, the NIC of the third network node controls PD2 to turn on. However, the NIC of the first network node continues to receive data from PD1, and the NIC of the third network node continues to receive data from PD1. After the first network node and the second network node complete communication, they send a communication completion indication to each other via the optical switching network. Subsequently, the NIC of the first network node, under the control of the processing unit, controls PD1 to turn off and starts receiving data from PD2. After the third network node and the fourth network node complete communication, they send a communication completion indication to each other via the optical switching network. Subsequently, the NIC of the third network node, under the control of the processing unit, controls PD1 to turn off and starts receiving data from PD2.

[0139] In cycle 2, after the first network node completes communication with the second network node, the processing unit of the first network node sends the second communication data to be transmitted to the network interface card (NIC). The NIC preprocesses the second communication data and sends it to the modulator of the optical module. The modulator then modulates the second communication data onto an optical signal including wavelength λ32 and transmits it. The optical switching network then switches the optical signal with wavelength λ32 to the third network node. PD2 of the third network node parses the second communication data from the optical signal with wavelength λ32 and sends it to the NIC for further processing.

[0140] The technical solution provided by the embodiment of the present application can be applied to scenarios such as artificial intelligence (AI) deep learning, optical switching clusters, digital center networks, or industrial Internet of Things. When the optical switching communication system executes a business (such as a computing task), it is required that different network nodes can interact with each other for data. For example, if the optical switching communication system shown in the embodiment of the present application is used to execute an artificial intelligence (AI) training business, it can be seen that the AI training business is a computing-intensive business. To implement the AI training business, it is required that the optical switching communication system includes multiple network nodes for data interaction. The execution functions of different network nodes (also referred to as computing nodes in AI) in the AI training task are determined, and the execution order of the network nodes is also predetermined. Therefore, according to the execution order, the next network node can be negotiated in the current communication process, and the corresponding wavelength can be called in advance, which can hide the time consumption of the optical module's wave cutting, avoid the problem of light breaking, and improve communication efficiency. In addition, the receiving unit of the optical module adopts a dual-wave receiving mechanism, and the dual wavelengths receive data, but the network card selects the received data for processing. The correct data can be selected through negotiation to avoid interference between wavelengths and reduce bit errors.

[0141] In addition to being applied to AI deep learning scenarios, this application can also be deployed in the (future) Industrial Internet of Things, as shown in Figure 11. Network traffic in the Industrial Internet of Things mainly consists of three parts: the first part includes various environmental and production line data collected by smart sensors, the second part includes the computational data generated by parallel computing and analysis of the collected data, and the third part includes control data transmitted to the actuator based on the data analysis results.

[0142] The data collection device (i.e., data collector) transmits the data collected by the sensor through the switching network to the data storage server for storage and backup. The data analysis server (also known as the big data analysis server) can obtain data from the storage server for big data processing and analysis. The data collector and the sensor can be connected via wireless fidelity (WiFi). The results obtained by the data analysis server can help the controller make decisions and convey them to the actuator to perform specific operations. It can be seen that in the industrial Internet of Things, various data streams have different traffic characteristics: the traffic of sensor data streams is huge and has high requirements for network bandwidth; big data analysis results and control information data streams need to be quickly and losslessly transmitted to the actuator, which has extremely high requirements for latency. The wavelength switching solution of the optical switching communication system proposed in this application is deployed on the storage server, analysis server, data collector and controller, and the optical switching equipment serves as the optical switching network. A deterministic time solution for the optical switching network in the industrial Internet can be realized.
