Abstract
Description
[0001] TITLE: PHOTO-PROTECTIVE AND THERMO-PROTECTIVE AGROCHEMICAL COMPOSITION
[0002] FIELD OF INVENTION:
[0003] The following invention relates to a synergistic photoprotective and thermo-protective agrochemical composition, to the corresponding agrochemical liquid composition, and to the use of synergistic combination of thermo-protectant and photo-protectant for stabilization of agrochemical compositions comprising at least one pesticide.
[0004] SUMMARY
[0005] The present invention is directed to a photoprotective and thermo-protective agrochemical composition comprising: a) at least one pesticide in an amount of from 0.5% to 50 % per weight based on the weight of total composition; b) stabilizer comprising synergistic combination of thermo-protectant and photoprotectant.
[0006] Another aspect of the invention relates to an agrochemical liquid composition comprising: a) at least one pesticide, selected from insecticides, fungicides, herbicides and the mixtures thereof; b) stabilizer comprising synergistic combination of thermo-protectant and photoprotectant; c) organic solvent; d) non-ionic surfactant; e) anionic surfactant.
[0007] The present invention further directed to the use of synergistic combination of thermoprotectant and photo-protectant for stabilization of agrochemical composition comprising at least one pesticide selected from insecticide, fungicide, herbicides and the mixtures thereof. BACKGROUND:
[0008] It is well known that many pesticides tend to undergo decomposition, as a result of exposure to the direct sunlight contacting the leaves and other plant parts that have been treated with a pesticidal product. This means that the actual quantity of the applied pesticide is eventually reduced, which will cause to less efficacy of the pesticidal product and will require to repeat the treatment, or to apply higher dose, to achieve the desired efficacy.
[0009] A second factor that affects the stability of some pesticides is heat. For some pesticides, a prolonged exposure to heat causes their thermal decomposition, which also creates a similar situation in which the actual concentration of the active component in practice is not the effective concentration required or intended to be applied in the field. Protection against thermal decomposition is important in two aspects: first, in the case where the material has been applied in the field, and the retention of a high level of the active ingredient for longer time is required to achieve the desired effect. Additionally, it is also necessary to be able to preserve the pesticidal product concentration during storage, for future use.
[0010] Macrolides are a class of chemical compounds mainly characterized by a large macrocyclic lactone ring, originally produced by soil bacteria during fermentation process and possess an antibiotic and pesticidal capabilities. Amongthem, Emamectin and Spinosad are widely used as crop protectors. However, both tend to suffer from photo and thermal instability.
[0011] There are several solutions in the field which try to overcome the pesticides photodegradation by addition of certain photo protecting molecules that are able to reduce the potential damage cause by sunlight radiation:
[0012] WO 2010 / 106314 describes a pesticide composition comprising pesticide particles of avermectin (A) (abamectin and / or emamectin benzoate) in a size of from 0.1 to 100pm coated with a photo-protecting agent. Preferred photo-protecting agents are 2,6-di(tert- butyl)-4-methylphenol (commonly known as BHT); ethylenebis(oxyethylene)bis-(3-(5- tert-butyl-4-hydroxy-m-tolyl)-propionate) (available, for example, as lrganoxR245); an azo dye (available, for example, as Oil Red O™ from Sigma-Aldrich); a synthetic beeswax (available, for example, as Syncrowax™ BB4 from Croda); and a UV absorber of the hydroxyphenylbenzotriazole class (available, for example, as TinuvinR328 from BASF).
[0013] In this case the application is limited to high melting point pesticides particulates, coated with a UV blocker. The processes as described in the application is relatively complicated and require specially designed machinery. Moreover, the formulation types are limited to solid compositions such as water dispersible or water-soluble granules.
[0014] WO 2010 / 126578 & WO 2010 / 126583 describe pesticidal suspension concentrates containing spinetoram and at least one metal oxide such as: ZnO, Fe20s, TiO2 and CuO. The application exhibits an improved efficacy for formulation with high concentration of metal oxide of up to 52.6% per weight of total composition. However, high concentration of metal oxides is known to cause plant phytotoxicity as mentioned in Plants 2023, 12(4), 778.
[0015] IN202221036514 describes a synergistic pesticidal solid formulations with improved stability, comprising: Spinosad, one or more other insecticides (such as emamectin benzoate, cyantraniliprole, abamectin, and tolfenpyrad), a UV photo degradation arrester, (such as ZnO, TiO and kojic acid). The application also describes a process for formulating the composition as granular compositions (WG), its effectiveness against several pests (such as lepidopteran, thysanopteran, dipteran and hemipteran insects), and its stability, being less prone to UV degradation. However, the composition is limited only to solid granular WG formulations.
[0016] Nevertheless, despite the previous efforts there is still a need for developing new stabilized compositions for photo and thermal sensitive pesticides.

[0385] EXAMPLES:
[0386] Example 1: The performance of neat emulsion concentrate compositions containing 2.11 % (w / w) per weight of emamectin benzoate and different photo and / or thermosprotectants prepared according to Table 1 was evaluated. The neat emulsion concentrate samples were not diluted in water before performing the test. Table 1. Emulsion concentrates containing different photo and / or thermo- protectants:
[0387] Active ingredient * is Emamectin benzoate or Spinosad
[0388] Emamectin benzoate is commercially available or can be prepared as disclosed by Trefzer A et al. Appl. Environ. Microbiol. 2007;73: pp 4317-4325. Spinosad is commercially available or can be prepared as disclosed in US 5,362,634 and US 5,496,931.
[0389] The following compositions were prepared as representative examples of general Table 1:
[0390] Example 1A: Emamectin benzoate 2.11% w / w emulsion concentrate
[0391] Example IB: Spinosad 2.11% w / w emulsion concentrate
[0392] Photo degradation measurements:
[0393] Samples of Emamectin emulsion concentrates prepared according to Table 1 containing different photo or thermo-protectants (20g) were inserted into a 40 mL glass vial. The sealed vials were placed in a circular position in a UV chamber UVACUBE 400 (Honle - UV technology) equipped with S-lamp (sunlight simulation). The tested samples were exposed to light for 6 h and the concentrations of Emamectin benzoate after the exposure were determined using HPLC. For each experiment, samples from the same batch were kept in dark and tested for comparison.
[0394] Thermal degradation measurements:
[0395] Samples of Emamectin emulsion concentrates prepared according to Table 1 containing different photo- or thermo-protectants (15g) were inserted into a 20 mL sealed glass vial. The vials were kept in an oven under constant temperature of 54°C for 14 days. The concentration of Emamectin benzoate after 14 days was determined using HPLC. For each experiment, samples from the same batch were kept in room temperature and tested for comparison. For all samples, degradation of sensitive active ingredient (Emamectin benzoate) concentration was calculated according to the following equation:
[0396] Co - is the concentration of Emamectin benzoate after 6 hours in dark (for photo degradation) or the concentration of Emamectin benzoate after 14 days at room temperature (for thermal degradation)
[0397] Cf - is the final concentration of Emamectin benzoate after exposure to thermal or photo degradation.
[0398] The results are summarized in Table 2.
[0399] Table 2: Photo and thermal degradation studies of Emamectin benzoate (2.11 % wM emulsion concentrates prepared according to Table 1.
[0400] It is shown that Emamectin benzoate photodegradation decreased by a factor of 3.64, 3.64, 3.0, 3.21 and 3.94 for Tinuvin® 328, Tinuvin® 1130, Tinuvin® 405, Tinuvin® 5050 and Tinuvin® 460, respectively, compared to the degradation obtained without any photo protectant, no decrease established in the samples containing thermo-protectants only . Photodegradation decrease factor was calculated as follows:
[0401] Photodegradation decrease factor - degradation (in %) of emamectin benzoate after 6 hours exposure to sunlight without photo protectant / degradation (in %) of emamectin benzoate after 6 hours exposure to sunlight with photo protectant.
[0402] Emamectin benzoate thermal degradation decreased by a factor 3.98, 2.75, and 9.32 for Irganox® B225, Irganox® PS 800 FL and Irgafos® 168, respectively, compared to the degradation obtained without any thermo-protectant, no decrease established in the samples containing photo-protectants only.

[0420] All photodegradation experiments represented as Examples 1-6 were performed with a glass vial using 20g of emulsion or neat formulation as described above. For simulation of the experiments to photodegradation which takes place on the foliage of treated plants, the following set up was established.
[0421] 2 g samples of Emamectin benzoate 2.11 % w / w emulsion concentrates prepared according to Table 1 and diluted in water as 10% (w / w) emulsion were placed in 100 mL glass beakers. The beakers were placed in a circular position in a UV chamber UVACUBE 400 (Honle - UV technology) equipped with S-lamp (sunlight simulation). The emulsion samples were completely dried creating a thin film at the bottom of the beaker. The samples were exposed to sunlight for 6 hours, and the Emamectin benzoate content of the thin film on the bottom of the beakers was extracted with Acetonitrile. The amount of Emamectin benzoate after the exposure to sunlight (mf) [mg] was determined using HPLC. For each experimental group, samples from the same batch that were kept in dark were also tested to determine the amount of Emamectin benzoate without exposure to light (mo). Photodegradation factors were calculated according to the Example 1.
[0422] For all tested samples, photodegradation % was calculated according to the following equation: m0- mf%Deg = 100% x — - - m0
