Description

Display module, electronic device and method of controlling the electronic device

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a display module, an electronic device, and a method for controlling the electronic device, and more particularly, to a display module capable of providing a three-dimensional image, an electronic device including the display module, and a method for controlling the same.

[0002] Recently, technologies for providing 3D images have been developing, and in particular, the development of technologies that can provide 3D images without auxiliary equipment such as 3D glasses has been accelerating.

[0003] As a conventional technology for providing a glasses-free 3D image, there is a conventional technology that uses a lenticular lens, but this conventional technology has the limitation of being difficult to provide a 3D image with a wide viewing angle.

[0004] In particular, in order to widen the field of view of a 3D image provided through a lenticular lens, a lenticular lens with a high refractive index or high curvature must be used. However, there is a problem in that it is difficult to implement a lenticular lens of less than a few millimeters, which is required in the industry, using a material with a high refractive index. In addition, increasing the curvature may cause a problem in that crosstalk increases due to overlapping between sub-image views for providing a 3D image.

[0005] Meanwhile, there exists a conventional technology for reducing the focal length and expanding the viewing angle by using a lens sheet in which two or more lenticular lenses are laminated, but this conventional technology has the problem that the thickness of the lens sheet increases, and also, when two or more lenticular lenses having a curvature are laminated, the problem of difficulty in aligning each lens sheet with a pixel may occur.

[0006] In addition, it has been pointed out that the conventional technology using lenticular lenses can only provide 3D images, and that it is difficult to apply it to 2D / 3D switching displays that can provide both 3D and 2D images.

[0007] The present disclosure is intended to overcome the problems of the prior art as described above, and an object of the present disclosure is to provide a display module capable of providing a three-dimensional image having a wide viewing angle, an electronic device including the display module, and a control method thereof.

[0011] Meanwhile, the plurality of second lenses included in the first lens sheet are arranged on top of the plurality of second lenses included in the second lens sheet, and driving of pixels corresponding to the plurality of second lenses among the plurality of pixels can be stopped.

[0031] The present embodiments may be modified and have various embodiments. Specific embodiments are illustrated in the drawings and described in detail in the detailed description. However, this is not intended to limit the scope to specific embodiments, but should be understood to encompass various modifications, equivalents, and / or alternatives of the embodiments of the present disclosure. In connection with the description of the drawings, similar reference numerals may be used for similar components.

[0032] In describing the present disclosure, if it is determined that a specific description of a related known function or configuration may unnecessarily obscure the gist of the present disclosure, a detailed description thereof will be omitted.

[0033] Additionally, the following embodiments may be modified in various other forms, and the scope of the technical concepts of the present disclosure is not limited to the following embodiments. Rather, these embodiments are provided to further faithfully and completely convey the technical concepts of the present disclosure to those skilled in the art.

[0034] The terminology used in this disclosure is for the purpose of describing specific embodiments only and is not intended to limit the scope of the rights. Singular expressions include plural expressions unless the context clearly dictates otherwise.

[0035] In this disclosure, expressions such as “has,” “can have,” “includes,” or “may include” indicate the presence of a corresponding feature (e.g., a component such as a number, function, operation, or part), and do not exclude the presence of additional features.

[0036] In this disclosure, expressions such as “A or B,” “at least one of A and / or B,” or “one or more of A or / and B” can include all possible combinations of the listed items. For example, “A or B,” “at least one of A and B,” or “at least one of A or B” can all refer to (1) including at least one A, (2) including at least one B, or (3) including both at least one A and at least one B.

[0037] The expressions “first,” “second,” “first,” or “second,” etc., used in this disclosure can describe various components, regardless of order and / or importance, and are only used to distinguish one component from another, but do not limit the components.

[0038] When it is said that a component (e.g., a first component) is “(operatively or communicatively) coupled with / to” or “connected to” another component (e.g., a second component), it should be understood that said component may be directly coupled to said other component, or may be coupled via another component (e.g., a third component).

[0039] On the other hand, when it is said that a component (e.g., a first component) is "directly connected" or "directly connected" to another component (e.g., a second component), it can be understood that no other component (e.g., a third component) exists between said component and said other component.

[0040] The expression "configured to" as used in the present disclosure may be used interchangeably with, for example, "suitable for," "having the capacity to," "designed to," "adapted to," "made to," or "capable of." The term "configured to" may not necessarily mean only "specifically designed to" in terms of hardware.

[0041] Instead, in some contexts, the phrase "a device configured to" may mean that the device, in conjunction with other devices or components, is "capable of" performing A, B, and C. For example, the phrase "a processor configured (or set) to perform A, B, and C" may refer to a dedicated processor (e.g., an embedded processor) for performing those operations, or a general-purpose processor (e.g., a CPU or application processor) that can perform those operations by executing one or more software programs stored in a memory device.

[0042] In the embodiments, a 'module' or 'part' performs at least one function or operation, and may be implemented as hardware or software, or as a combination of hardware and software. Furthermore, a plurality of 'modules' or 'parts' may be integrated into at least one module and implemented as at least one processor, except for a 'module' or 'part' that needs to be implemented as a specific hardware.

[0043] Meanwhile, the various elements and areas in the drawings are schematically drawn. Therefore, the technical concept of the present invention is not limited by the relative sizes or spacing depicted in the attached drawings.

[0044] Hereinafter, with reference to the attached drawings, embodiments according to the present disclosure will be described in detail so that a person having ordinary knowledge in the technical field to which the present disclosure pertains can easily implement the present disclosure.

[0045] FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 are drawings showing the configuration of a display module (100) according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0046] The 'display module (100)' according to the present disclosure refers to a device (or configuration) capable of displaying an image, and may be replaced with terms such as 'display panel'. In particular, the display module (100) is a device capable of providing both a three-dimensional image and a two-dimensional image without auxiliary equipment such as 3D glasses, and may be referred to as a 2D / 3D switching (or switchable) display or a 2D / 3D image compatible display.

[0047] The display module (100) may refer to the entire display capable of displaying an image, or may refer to a portion of the entire display. That is, a plurality of display modules (100) may be combined with each other to form a single display.

[0048] Meanwhile, the 'electronic device (1000)' to which the display module (100) according to the present disclosure is applied refers to a device that can include the display module (100). For example, the electronic device (1000) can be implemented as a TV, a smart phone, a tablet PC, a smartwatch, a VR (virtual reality) device, an AR (augmented reality) device, etc., but there is no particular limitation on the type of the electronic device (1000).

[0049] Below, a display module (100) according to the present disclosure will first be described, and then an electronic device (1000) including the display module (100) will be described.

[0050] As illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, a display module (100) according to the present disclosure may include a light emitting portion (110) and a plurality of lens sheets (120).

[0051] The 'light emitting unit (110)' can emit light corresponding to image data. Specifically, the light emitting unit (110) can emit light corresponding to a three-dimensional or two-dimensional image. Here, the term 'emission' can be replaced with the term 'radiation', etc. Specifically, the light emitting unit (110) can include a plurality of pixels and light sources corresponding to the plurality of pixels.

[0052] Each of the plurality of pixels may include a plurality of sub-pixels, and when each of the plurality of pixels includes a plurality of sub-pixels, the light emitting unit (110) may emit light corresponding to image data through each of the plurality of sub-pixels. Each of the plurality of sub-pixels may correspond to a plurality of LEDs, but is not limited thereto.

[0053] For example, as illustrated in FIG. 1, each of the plurality of sub-pixels may include a first sub-pixel (111-1) emitting red light, a second sub-pixel (111-2) emitting green light, and a third sub-pixel (111-3) emitting blue light, and a set of the first sub-pixel (111-1), the second sub-pixel (111-2), and the third sub-pixel (111-3) may constitute each of the plurality of pixels. The first sub-pixel, the second sub-pixel, and the third sub-pixel may be replaced with terms such as an R sub-pixel, a G sub-pixel, and a B sub-pixel, respectively. Although only three sub-pixels are indicated by reference numerals in FIG. 1, it will be apparent from the illustration in FIG. 1 that other pixels may also include an R sub-pixel, a G sub-pixel, and a B sub-pixel.

[0054] Meanwhile, in a broad sense, the light emitting unit (110) may include a circuit and electrodes for controlling the operation of a light source. For example, the light source of the light emitting unit (110) may be implemented with a plurality of LEDs, but is not limited thereto. The term "light emitting unit (110)" may be replaced with terms such as "image display unit," "display panel," or "light output unit."

[0055] A 'multiple lens sheets (120)' refers to a lens array including a plurality of lenses. As illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, the plurality of lens sheets (120) may have a planar shape, and thus the term 'lens sheet' may be replaced with a term such as 'lens layer'. Specifically, the plurality of lens sheets (120) may each include a plurality of GRIN (Gradient-Index) lenses that operate as convex lenses or concave lenses based on different refractive indices depending on their positions within the lens.

[0056] A "GRIN lens" refers to a lens having the characteristic of spatially varying refractive index. Specifically, a GRIN lens has a distribution in which the refractive index gradually changes along the central axis, thereby allowing the path of incident light to vary depending on the location. For example, a GRIN lens can refract light at a larger angle at a location with a high refractive index, and refract light at a smaller angle at a location with a low refractive index. In addition to a GRIN lens, any lens capable of spatially varying the refractive index of the lens can be applied to the present disclosure.

[0057] A plurality of GRIN lenses may each include a plurality of first lenses (10) and a plurality of second lenses (20). In the present disclosure, the 'first lens (10)' refers to a lens that operates as a convex lens, and the 'second lens (20)' refers to a lens that operates as a concave lens.

[0058] A convex lens is a lens with a surface that curves outward from its center. Light passing through the center of a convex lens can be refracted by the surface and focused at the lens's focus. A concave lens is a lens with a surface that curves inward from its center. Light passing through the center of a concave lens can be refracted by the surface and spread out. Convex lenses can be used to magnify images, and concave lenses can be used to reduce images.

[0059] However, the fact that the first lens (10) and the second lens (20) can operate as a convex lens and a concave lens, respectively, does not mean that the first lens (10) has a convex shape or that the second lens (20) has a concave shape, and the first lens (10) and the second lens (20) can operate as a convex lens and a concave lens, respectively, based on different refractive indices depending on the position within the lens.

[0060] Specifically, the refractive index of the first lens (10) may decrease from the center to the periphery of the first lens (10), and thus the first lens (10) may operate as a convex lens. On the other hand, the refractive index of the second lens (20) may increase from the center to the periphery of the second lens (20), and thus the second lens (20) may operate as a concave lens. In FIGS. 1 and 2, a + sign is indicated for the configuration representing the first lens (10), and a - sign is indicated for the configuration representing the second lens (20).

[0061] In Fig. 1, only one first lens (10) and one second lens (20) are indicated by reference numerals 10 and 20, but the configuration indicated by the + symbol represents the first lens (10) and the configuration indicated by the - symbol represents the second lens (20). Meanwhile, the number of multiple lenses and the number of multiple pixels illustrated in Fig. 1 are simplified for convenience of explanation, and there is no particular limitation on the number of multiple lenses and the number of multiple pixels according to the present disclosure. The display method of Fig. 1 is also applied to Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 6.

[0062] As illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2 , the plurality of GRIN lenses may have a planar shape. That is, the plurality of GRIN lenses may be planar lenses without curvature. However, the plurality of GRIN lenses do not have to be completely planar, and may have curvature on at least some surfaces.

[0063] Although there is no particular limitation on the number of the plurality of lens sheets (120), the following description assumes that the plurality of lens sheets (120) include a first lens sheet (120-1) and a second lens sheet (120-2). Each of the first lens sheet (120-1) and the second lens sheet (120-2) is the same in that it includes a plurality of first lenses (10) and a plurality of second lenses (20), but below, the term 'first lens sheet (120-1)' is used as a term to specify a lens sheet laminated on top of the 'second lens sheet (120-2)'.

[0064] A plurality of first lenses (10) and a plurality of second lenses (20) may be alternately arranged within a plurality of lens sheets (120). That is, the first lens sheet (120-1) and the second lens sheet (120-2) may be lens sheets in which the first lenses (10) and the second lenses (20) are alternately arranged. For example, as illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, a second lens (20) may be arranged on the left and right of each of the plurality of first lenses (10), and a first lens (10) may be arranged on the left and right of each of the plurality of second lenses (20). Of course, if the first lens (10) is a lens at both ends of a plurality of lens sheets (120), the second lens (20) may be placed on the left or right side of the first lens (10), and if the second lens (20) is a lens at both ends of a plurality of lens sheets (120), the first lens (10) may be placed on the left or right side of the second lens (20).

[0065] More specifically, the plurality of lens sheets (120) may be a lens array in which the plurality of lenses are arranged in a plurality of rows. In addition, when the plurality of lenses are arranged in n rows on the plurality of lens sheets (120) (where n is an even number), the first lens (10) may be arranged in the first row of the plurality of lens sheets, the second lens (20) in the second row, the first lens (10) in the third row, and the second lens (20) in the n-th row, or the second lens (20) may be arranged in the first row of the plurality of lens sheets, the first lens (10) in the second row, the second lens (20) in the third row, and the first lens (10) in the n-th row.

[0066] Meanwhile, at least one of the first lens sheet (120-1) and the second lens sheet (120-2) can move horizontally, and specifically, the positional relationship may be different for providing a three-dimensional image and for providing a two-dimensional image. Hereinafter, the positional relationship of the first lens sheet (120-1) and the second lens sheet (120-2) for providing a three-dimensional image will be described with reference to FIG. 1, and then the positional relationship of the first lens sheet (120-1) and the second lens sheet (120-2) for providing a two-dimensional image will be described with reference to FIG. 2.

[0067] As illustrated in FIG. 1, while light is emitted from the light emitting unit (110) to provide a three-dimensional image, the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) among the plurality of lens sheets (120) may be arranged on top of the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the second lens sheet (120-2) among the plurality of lens sheets (120). In other words, in order to provide a three-dimensional image, the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) may be arranged side by side in the vertical direction (i.e., up and down) with the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the second lens sheet (120-2).

[0068] In addition, since the plurality of first lenses (10) and the plurality of second lenses (20) are alternately arranged within the plurality of lens sheets (120), when the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) are arranged on top of the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the second lens sheet (120-2), the plurality of second lenses (20) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) can naturally be arranged on top of the plurality of second lenses (20) included in the second lens sheet (120-2).

[0069] When a plurality of first lenses (10) included in a first lens sheet (120-1) are arranged on top of a plurality of first lenses (10) included in a second lens sheet (120-2), the optical powers of the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) and the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the second lens sheet (120-2) can be added. For example, assuming that the optical power of each of the plurality of first lenses (10) is +1D (diopter), the optical power of pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in the vertical direction can be +2. The term 'optical power' refers to a physical measure representing the refractive ability of an optical lens or an optical system.

[0070] When a plurality of first lenses (10) included in a first lens sheet (120-1) are arranged on top of a plurality of first lenses (10) included in a second lens sheet (120-2), the pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in the vertical direction can operate as convex lenses. Accordingly, the pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in the vertical direction can provide a three-dimensional image by outputting light incident from the light emitting unit (110) in a preset direction.

[0071] Specifically, when light for providing a three-dimensional image is emitted from the light emitting unit (110), the light incident from the light emitting unit (110) may be refracted by a plurality of lens sheets (120), specifically, pairs of first lenses (10) included in the plurality of lens sheets (120), and output in a first direction for providing a three-dimensional image.

[0072] Here, the term 'first direction' is used to refer to a direction for mapping each direction of light emitted through each of a plurality of pixels to one of a plurality of views for providing a three-dimensional image. When each direction of light emitted through each of a plurality of pixels is mapped to one of a plurality of views for providing a three-dimensional image, different images can be provided depending on the user's viewpoint, thereby providing a 3D effect. Each of the different images shown depending on the user's viewpoint may be referred to as a 'sub-image view' or an 'image slice'. Mapping to one of a plurality of views for providing a three-dimensional image will be described in more detail with reference to FIG. 3.

[0073] Meanwhile, the fact that the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) are arranged on top of the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the second lens sheet (120-2) means that the pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in the vertical direction can operate as convex lenses and can thus be used to provide a three-dimensional image, and also means that a three-dimensional image with a wide viewing angle can be provided as the optical power of the pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in the vertical direction is added.

[0074] Specifically, a higher optical power indicates a stronger refractive ability of an optical lens or optical system, and focal length is inversely proportional to optical power. Here, "focal length" refers to the distance from the center of the lens to the point where an image converges on the lens' optical axis. Furthermore, a shorter focal length results in a wider field of view.

[0075] For example, when the optical power of a plurality of first lenses (10) included in a first lens sheet (120-1) and a plurality of first lenses (10) included in a second lens sheet (120-2) are added, the optical power of the optical system including a plurality of lens sheets (120) is doubled, the focal length is halved, and a three-dimensional image having a wide viewing angle twice as wide as that of a case where one lens sheet is used can be provided.

[0076] Meanwhile, as illustrated in FIG. 2, while light is emitted from the light emitting unit (110) to provide a two-dimensional image, a plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) may be arranged on top of a plurality of second lenses (20) included in the second lens sheet (120-2). In other words, in order to provide a two-dimensional image, a plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) may be arranged vertically side by side with a plurality of second lenses (20) included in the second lens sheet (120-2).

[0077] In addition, since the plurality of first lenses (10) and the plurality of second lenses (20) are alternately arranged within the plurality of lens sheets (120), when the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) are arranged on top of the plurality of second lenses (20) included in the second lens sheet (120-2), the plurality of second lenses (20) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) can naturally be arranged on top of the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the second lens sheet (120-2).

[0078] When a plurality of first lenses (10) included in a first lens sheet (120-1) are arranged on top of a plurality of second lenses (20) included in a second lens sheet (120-2), the optical powers of the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) and the plurality of second lenses (20) included in the second lens sheet (120-2) can be canceled out. In addition, when a plurality of second lenses (20) included in a first lens sheet (120-1) are arranged on top of a plurality of first lenses (10) included in a second lens sheet (120-2), the optical powers of the plurality of second lenses (20) included in one lens sheet and the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the second lens sheet (120-2) can also be canceled out.

[0079] In other words, in the case of providing a two-dimensional image, the optical power of the plurality of first lenses (10) and the plurality of second lens sheets (120-2) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) and the second lens sheet (120-2) can all be canceled out to become 0D. Accordingly, when the light emitted from the light emitting unit (110) passes through the plurality of lens sheets (120), the light is not refracted but is transmitted as is, and accordingly, the display module (100) can provide a two-dimensional image.

[0080] Specifically, when light is emitted from the light emitting unit (110) to provide a two-dimensional image, the light incident from the light emitting unit (110) can be output in a second direction to provide a two-dimensional image by transmitting through a plurality of lens sheets (120). Here, the term 'second direction' is a term used to specify the direction in which the light incident from the light emitting unit (110) is transmitted and output, distinguishing it from the first direction.

[0081] According to the embodiments described above with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, a 2D / 3D switching display module (100) capable of providing a three-dimensional image with a wide viewing angle can be provided.

[0082] In particular, since the plurality of lens sheets (120) according to the present disclosure can be implemented as flat GRIN lenses, they can have a thin thickness and are easy to stack. Therefore, compared to providing a three-dimensional image using a lenticular lens according to the prior art, a significantly wider field of view can be provided in an efficient and effective manner.

[0083] In addition, according to the present disclosure, since it is easy to implement the same refraction angle for each color according to the design of a plurality of first lenses (10) and a plurality of second lenses (20) without the pitch constraints that accompany the use of a lenticular lens, chromatic aberration can be significantly reduced compared to the prior art.

[0084] In addition, the display module (100) can provide both a three-dimensional image and a two-dimensional image according to a change in the positional relationship between a plurality of first lenses (10) operating as convex lenses and a plurality of second lenses (20) operating as concave lenses.

[0085] Furthermore, in the case of using a lenticular lens according to the conventional technology, the lenticular lens sheet is tilted and placed on the light emitting portion to avoid the moire phenomenon that may occur when patterns having a certain interval are repeatedly overlapped, whereas the plurality of lens sheets (120) according to the present disclosure uses a GRIN lens, so the refractive index of the plurality of lenses can be designed to avoid the moire phenomenon, and therefore, it has the advantage that there is no need to tilt the plurality of lens sheets (120) and place them on the light emitting portion (110).

[0086] Meanwhile, as described above, at least one of the first lens sheet (120-1) and the second lens sheet (120-2) can move horizontally, thereby providing a three-dimensional image or a two-dimensional image. A method of moving at least one of the first lens sheet (120-1) and the second lens sheet (120-2) horizontally will be described in detail with reference to FIG. 8.

[0087] FIG. 3 is a drawing for explaining one or more embodiments related to stopping the driving of pixels corresponding to a plurality of second lenses (20) of the present disclosure.

[0088] As described above, while light for providing a three-dimensional image is emitted from the light emitting unit (110), the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) among the plurality of lens sheets (120) may be arranged on top of the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the second lens sheet (120-2) among the plurality of lens sheets (120). Then, when light for providing a three-dimensional image is emitted from the light emitting unit (110), the light incident from the light emitting unit (110) may be refracted by pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in the vertical direction and output in a first direction for providing a three-dimensional image.

[0089] Hereinafter, a process for providing a three-dimensional image by pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in a vertical direction is described in detail, and then embodiments related to the function of pairs of second lenses (20) arranged side by side in a vertical direction while providing a three-dimensional image are described.

[0090] In Fig. 3, pixels corresponding to pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in the vertical direction are represented as V1 or V2, and pixels corresponding to pairs of second lenses (20) arranged side by side in the vertical direction are represented as X0. Here, V1 pixels are pixels corresponding to the first sub-image view, and V2 pixels are pixels corresponding to the second sub-image view. Meanwhile, the arrows in Fig. 3 represent 'rays' indicating the path of light. In the description of the present disclosure, the term 'light' may be used in a broad sense to include light rays.

[0091] Light emitted through the V1 pixels can be refracted while passing through pairs of first lenses (10) arranged vertically side by side as indicated by arrows in Fig. 3, and output in the direction of a viewpoint indicated as a first sub-image view in Fig. 3. In addition, light emitted through the V2 pixels can be refracted while passing through pairs of first lenses (10) arranged vertically side by side as indicated by arrows in Fig. 3, and output in the direction of a viewpoint indicated as a second sub-image view in Fig. 3.

[0092] In this way, the direction of each of the lights emitted through each of the plurality of pixels can be mapped to one of the plurality of viewpoints for providing a three-dimensional image, and accordingly, the pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in the vertical direction can provide different image views, i.e., three-dimensional images, depending on the user's viewpoint. Meanwhile, in Fig. 3, only the first sub-image view and the second sub-image view are shown for convenience of explanation.

[0093] Meanwhile, since the second lens (20) operates as a concave lens, it cannot refract the light emitted from the light emitting unit (110) in a preset direction, and therefore cannot be used to provide a three-dimensional image. For example, assuming that the optical power of each of the plurality of second lenses (20) is -1D, the optical power of the pairs of second lenses (20) arranged side by side in the vertical direction becomes -2D, and therefore the pairs of second lenses (20) arranged side by side in the vertical direction cannot collimate the light emitted from the light emitting unit (110), and thus may cause crosstalk due to overlapping between images.

[0094] Accordingly, according to one or more embodiments, while light is emitted to provide a three-dimensional image, driving of pixels corresponding to a plurality of second lenses (20) among the plurality of pixels may be stopped. When driving of pixels corresponding to a plurality of second lenses (20) among the plurality of pixels is stopped, light is not emitted through pairs of second lenses (20) arranged vertically side by side, so that the problem of crosstalk described above can be resolved.

[0095] Hereinafter, one or more further embodiments for resolving the above-described crosstalk problem will be described with reference to FIGS. 4 to 6.

[0096] FIG. 4 is a drawing for explaining the operation of a compensation layer (130) and a plurality of electrodes in the case of providing a three-dimensional image, and FIG. 5 is a drawing showing a change in optical power when the shape of the compensation layer (130) is changed. In addition, FIG. 6 is a drawing for explaining the operation of a compensation layer (130) and a plurality of electrodes in the case of providing a two-dimensional image.

[0097] As illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 6, the display module (100) may further include a compensation layer (130) and a plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2).

[0098] The 'compensation layer (130)' refers to a layer for compensating for crosstalk generated by pixels corresponding to a plurality of second lenses (20). The compensation layer (130) may be an EAP (Electroactive Polymer). EAP refers to a polymer material that can deform at least part of its shape under electrical stimulation. The compensation layer (130) may be transparent, and may be, for example, a dielectric elastomer, which is a transparent EAP material. The term 'compensation layer (130)' may be replaced with terms such as 'polymer layer' or 'flexible layer'.

[0099] In particular, the compensation layer (130) may be disposed between the light emitting portion (110) and the second lens sheet (120-2), as illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 6, but is not limited thereto. For example, the compensation layer may be disposed between the first lens sheet (120-1) and the second lens sheet (120-2), or may be disposed on top of the first lens sheet (120-1).

[0100] 'A plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2)' can be connected to a power source to apply voltage between the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2). In addition, the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2) can be arranged in pairs in areas corresponding to the positions of the plurality of first lenses (10) in the case where light corresponding to a three-dimensional image is emitted through the light emitting portion (110) among the areas of the upper and lower portions of the compensation layer (130).

[0101] Referring to FIG. 4, a plurality of electrode pairs may be arranged in pairs on the upper and lower portions of the compensation layer (130), and in particular, may be arranged on an area corresponding to the positions of a plurality of first lenses (10) when providing a three-dimensional image. That is, the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2) may be arranged vertically parallel to the pairs of first lenses (10) that are arranged vertically parallel to provide a three-dimensional image. The plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2) may be transparent, and may be, for example, ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) electrodes, which are transparent electrode materials.

[0102] In one or more embodiments, when a preset voltage is applied to a plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2), as the gap between the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2) narrows, an area corresponding to the positions of the plurality of second lenses (20) when providing a three-dimensional image in the compensation layer (130) may be changed (deformed or adjusted) into the shape of a convex lens.

[0103] For example, when a preset voltage is applied to a plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2), as indicated by the arrows in FIG. 4, the gap between the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2) may be narrowed by electrostatic attraction, and accordingly, an area corresponding to the positions of the plurality of second lenses (20) when providing a three-dimensional image, which is an area where the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2) are not arranged, may be changed into a convex shape upward and downward, as illustrated in FIG. 4.

[0104] Since the area in the compensation layer (130) that has been changed into the shape of a convex lens can operate as a convex lens, it can refract the light emitted from the light emitting unit (110) in a specific direction, and thus, when providing a 3D image, it is possible to resolve the problem of crosstalk caused by pairs of second lenses (20) arranged vertically side by side. Here, the 'specific direction' may be a direction corresponding to multiple viewpoints for providing a 3D image, such as the first direction, or may be a direction that does not correspond to all of the multiple viewpoints for providing a 3D image.

[0105] How the shape of the convex lens is specifically changed can be determined by a preset voltage, a change in the spacing between the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2) according to the voltage, and the material and size of the compensation layer (130). In particular, by adjusting the preset voltage applied to the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2), the curvature, optical power, focal length, etc. of the area changed into the shape of the convex lens can be changed.

[0106] For example, the optical power of the area changed into the shape of a convex lens in the compensation layer (130) may be four times the optical power of each of the plurality of first lenses (10). For example, assuming that the optical power of each of the plurality of first lenses (10) is +1D, the optical power of pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in the vertical direction may be +2D, and the optical power of the area changed into the shape of a convex lens in the compensation layer (130) may be +4D.

[0107] In the graph of Fig. 5, the vertical axis represents optical power, and the horizontal axis represents the position of the display sheet by dividing it into an area corresponding to pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in the vertical direction and an area corresponding to pairs of second lenses (20) arranged side by side in the vertical direction.

[0108] As shown in FIG. 5, when providing a 3D image, the optical power of the pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in the vertical direction is +2D, and when providing a 3D image, the optical power of the pairs of second lenses (20) arranged side by side in the vertical direction is -2D, but since the optical power of the area changed into the shape of a convex lens in the compensation layer (130) is +4D, the optical power of the area corresponding to the pairs of second lenses (20) becomes +2D.

[0109] Meanwhile, in the case of providing a two-dimensional image, unlike in the case of providing a three-dimensional image, voltage may not be applied to the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2). And, if voltage is not applied to the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2), as illustrated in Fig. 6, the shape of the area corresponding to the positions of the plurality of second lenses (20) may not be changed and may maintain a flat shape.

[0110] As described above, in the case of providing a two-dimensional image, the optical power of the plurality of first lenses (10) and the plurality of second lens sheets (120-2) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) and the second lens sheet (120-2) can all be canceled out to become 0D. In addition, the compensation layer (130) and the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2) can all be transparent, and even when the display module (100) includes the compensation layer (130), in the case of providing a two-dimensional image, since the entire compensation layer (130) maintains a flat shape, when the light emitted from the light emitting unit (110) passes through the compensation layer (130), the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2), and the plurality of lens sheets (120), the light is not refracted but is transmitted as is, and accordingly, the display module (100) can provide a two-dimensional image.

[0111] According to the embodiments described above with reference to FIGS. 4 to 6, the display module (100) can solve the problem of crosstalk caused by pairs of second lenses (20) arranged vertically side by side when providing a three-dimensional image by changing a part of the compensation layer (130) into the shape of a convex lens. In particular, in the case of providing a two-dimensional image, since the entire compensation layer (130) can maintain a flat shape, the function of the 2D / 3D switching display module (100) can be maintained while solving the problem of crosstalk described above.

[0112] FIG. 7 is a block diagram briefly showing the configuration of an electronic device (1000) according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, and FIG. 8 is a block diagram showing in detail the configuration of an electronic device (1000) according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0113] As illustrated in FIG. 7, the electronic device (1000) according to the present disclosure may include a display module (100), a memory (200), and a processor (300). In addition, as illustrated in FIG. 8, the electronic device (1000) may further include a driving unit (400) in addition to the display module (100), the memory (200), and the processor (300). However, the configurations illustrated in FIGS. 7 and 8 are merely exemplary, and in implementing the present disclosure, new configurations such as a communication unit, an input unit, or an output unit may be added or some configurations may be omitted in addition to the configurations illustrated in FIGS. 7 and 8.

[0114] The display module (100) refers to a configuration capable of displaying an image, and in particular, refers to a 2D / 3D switching display module (100) capable of providing both a 2D image and a 3D image. Since the display module (100) has been described above with reference to FIGS. 1 to 6, a duplicate description of the same content will be omitted. That is, the various embodiments described above with reference to FIGS. 1 to 6 can also be applied to the display module (100) included in the electronic device (1000).

[0115] The memory (200) may store at least one instruction related to the electronic device (1000). In addition, the memory (200) may store an O / S for driving the electronic device (1000). In addition, the memory (200) may store various software programs or applications for operating the electronic device (1000) according to various embodiments of the present disclosure. In addition, the memory (200) may include a semiconductor memory (200) such as a flash memory (200) or a magnetic storage medium such as a hard disk.

[0116] Specifically, the memory (200) may store various software modules for operating the electronic device (1000) according to various embodiments of the present disclosure, and the processor (300) may execute the various software modules stored in the memory (200) to control the operation of the electronic device (1000). That is, the memory (200) is accessed by the processor (300), and data reading / writing / modifying / deleting / updating, etc. may be performed by the processor (300). Meanwhile, the term "memory (200)" in the present disclosure may be used to mean a memory (200), a ROM, a RAM in the processor (300), or a memory (200) card mounted in the electronic device (1000).

[0117] In particular, various information / data such as image data for providing a three-dimensional image, image data for providing a two-dimensional image, mapping information for the direction of light for each pixel for providing a three-dimensional image, etc. may be stored in the memory (200). In addition, various information necessary within the scope of achieving the purpose of the present disclosure may be stored in the memory (200), and the information stored in the memory (200) may be updated as received from an external device or input by a user.

[0118] The processor (300) controls the overall operation of the electronic device (1000). Specifically, the processor (300) is connected to the configuration of the electronic device (1000) including the display module (100) and the memory (200), and can control the overall operation of the electronic device (1000) by executing at least one instruction stored in the memory (200) as described above.

[0119] The processor (300) may be implemented in various ways. For example, the processor (300) may be implemented as at least one of an application-specific integrated circuit, an embedded processor (300), a microprocessor (300), hardware control logic, a hardware finite state machine, and a digital signal processor (300). Meanwhile, the term "processor (300)" in the present disclosure may be used to mean a CPU, a GPU, an MPU, and the like.

[0120] The processor (300) may include at least one timing controller that controls the driving of the light emitting unit (110) and a panel driving unit (400) that controls the driving of the display panel.

[0121] The timing controller can control the panel driver (400) to control the light emitting unit (110). Specifically, the timing controller can adjust image data stored in the memory (200) to a signal required by the panel driver (400) and transmit the adjusted signal to the panel driver (400), thereby allowing the panel driver (400) to control the driving of the light emitting unit (110).

[0122] The panel driver (400) can control the driving of the light emitting unit (110) based on a signal received from the timing control. For example, the panel driver (400) can include a plurality of driving ICs and a plurality of pixel driving circuits. In addition, the plurality of driving ICs can control the light emission of a plurality of light emitting elements of the light emitting unit (110) connected to each of the plurality of pixel driving circuits by driving the plurality of pixel driving circuits.

[0123] In particular, the processor (300) can control the display module (100) to provide a three-dimensional image or a two-dimensional image. Specifically, in the case of providing a three-dimensional image or a two-dimensional image, the processor (300) can implement a two-dimensional / three-dimensional switching display by controlling the light emitting unit (110), the driving unit (400), and the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2) in different ways. The control process of the processor (300) in the case of providing a three-dimensional image or a two-dimensional image will be described in detail after the description of the driving unit (400).

[0124] The driving unit (400) can move at least one of the plurality of lens sheets (120) in a horizontal direction. The driving unit (400) can include at least one motor and at least one gear, and the at least one motor and the at least one gear can be connected to the plurality of lens sheets (120). In addition, the driving unit (400) can include at least one of a piezo actuator, an ultrasonic motor (USM), and a shape memory actuator (SMA).

[0125] Specifically, the driving unit (400) can move the first lens sheet (120-1) and / or the second lens sheet (120-2) among the plurality of lens sheets (120) in the horizontal direction in the case of providing a three-dimensional image and / or in the case of providing a two-dimensional image.

[0126] Meanwhile, while light is emitted from the light emitting unit (110) to provide a two-dimensional image, the driving unit (400) can adjust the positional relationship of the plurality of first lenses (10) and the plurality of second lenses (20) as illustrated in FIG. 2 by horizontally moving the second lens sheet (120-2) among the first lens sheet (120-1) and the second lens sheet (120-2). That is, the driving unit (400) can move the second lens sheet (120-2) so that the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) are arranged on top of the plurality of second lenses (20) included in the second lens sheet (120-2), and the plurality of second lenses (20) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) are arranged on top of the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the second lens sheet (120-2).

[0127] On the other hand, while light is emitted from the light emitting unit (110) to provide a three-dimensional image, the driving unit (400) may not move the plurality of lens sheets (120) in the horizontal direction. Accordingly, the plurality of first lenses (10) and second lenses (20) included in the display module (100) may be arranged as shown in FIG. 1 to provide a three-dimensional image.

[0128] In the above, an example of moving the second lens sheet (120-2) among the plurality of lens sheets (120) in the horizontal direction was described only for providing a two-dimensional image, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto. That is, any method can be applied to the present disclosure as long as the first lenses (10) are arranged vertically side by side in the case of providing a three-dimensional image, and the plurality of first lenses (10) and second lenses (20) are arranged vertically side by side in the case of providing a two-dimensional image.

[0129] Meanwhile, in the above, an embodiment of automatically moving at least one of the plurality of lens sheets (120) in a horizontal direction using a driving unit (400) has been described, but depending on the embodiment, it is also possible for a user to manually move at least one of the plurality of lens sheets (120) in a horizontal direction.

[0130] Below, the control process of the processor (300) when providing a three-dimensional image or a two-dimensional image is described.

[0131] The processor (300) may receive a request to provide an image. The 'request to provide an image' may be received based on user input, may be received from an external device, or may be received based on the occurrence of an event defined as requiring image provision.

[0132] For example, a request to provide an image may be received based on a user's touch input for selecting an image to be played back, a control signal received from a remote control device, etc. In addition, a request to provide an image may be received based on an event occurring in the electronic device (1000), such as powering on the electronic device (1000) including the display module (100), unlocking the electronic device (1000), etc.

[0133] Meanwhile, the term 'receive' in a request to provide an image can be replaced with terms such as 'acquire, obtain', 'identify', 'recognize', and 'detect' in a request to provide an image.

[0134] When a request to provide an image is received, the processor (300) can identify whether the request to provide the image is a request to provide the image in three dimensions or a request to provide the image in two dimensions. That is, the processor (300) can analyze whether the request to provide the image is a request to provide the image in three dimensions or a request to provide the image in two dimensions, and can distinguish the type of the request to provide the image based on the analysis result. In addition, the processor (300) can obtain information on whether the request to provide the image is a request to provide the image in three dimensions or a request to provide the image in two dimensions.

[0135] Meanwhile, information on whether a request to provide an image is a request to provide a three-dimensional image or a request to provide a two-dimensional image can be transmitted in synchronization to the light emitting unit (110), the driving unit (400), and the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2).

[0136] When a request to provide an image in three dimensions is received, the processor (300) can control the driving unit (400) so that the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) are placed on top of the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the second lens sheet (120-2). Since the control of the driving unit (400) has been described above, a duplicate description of the same content will be omitted.

[0137] In addition, when a request to provide an image in three dimensions is received, the processor (300) can control the light emitting unit (110) to emit light corresponding to the three-dimensional image. Specifically, the processor (300) can transmit a control signal to the light emitting unit (110) to emit light corresponding to the three-dimensional image. When the control signal is received from the processor (300), the light emitting unit (110) can emit light corresponding to the three-dimensional image based on three-dimensional image data stored in the memory (200) in response to the request to provide an image.

[0138] Here, unlike the '2D image data' described later, '3D image data' may further include location and color information in 3D space according to depth coordinates as well as color information for each pixel according to horizontal / vertical coordinates on a plane.

[0139] When a request to provide an image in two dimensions is received, the processor (300) can control the driving unit (400) so that a plurality of first lenses (10) included in a first lens sheet (120-1) are placed on top of a plurality of second lenses (20) included in a second lens sheet (120-2).

[0140] In addition, when a request to provide an image in two dimensions is received, the light emitting unit (110) can be controlled to emit light corresponding to the two-dimensional image. Specifically, when the request to provide an image is a request to provide an image in two dimensions, the processor (300) can transmit a control signal to the light emitting unit (110) to emit light corresponding to the two-dimensional image. When the control signal is received from the processor (300), the light emitting unit (110) can emit light corresponding to the two-dimensional image based on two-dimensional image data stored in the memory (200) in response to the request to provide an image.

[0141] Meanwhile, when the display module (100) further includes a compensation layer (130) and a plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2), the processor (300) can control the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2) depending on whether the request for providing an image is a request for providing an image in three dimensions or a request for providing an image in two dimensions.

[0142] Specifically, when a request to provide an image in three dimensions is received, the processor (300) can control the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2) so that a preset voltage is applied to the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2). And, as described above, when the preset voltage is applied to the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2), as shown in FIG. 4, the area corresponding to the positions of the plurality of second lenses (20) when providing a three-dimensional image in the compensation layer (130) can be changed into the shape of a convex lens.

[0143] Meanwhile, when a request to provide an image in two dimensions is received, the processor (300) can control the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2) so that a preset voltage is not applied to the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2). If no voltage is applied to the plurality of electrode pairs (140-1, 140-2), as illustrated in FIG. 6, the shape of the area corresponding to the positions of the plurality of second lenses (20) does not change and can maintain a flat shape.

[0144] In addition, at least some of the various embodiments described above with reference to FIGS. 1 to 6 may be implemented under the control of the processor (300).

[0145] FIG. 9 is a flowchart illustrating a method for controlling an electronic device (1000) according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0146] As illustrated in FIG. 9, the electronic device (1000) may receive a request to provide an image (S910). The "request to provide an image" may be received based on user input, may be received from an external device, or may be received based on the occurrence of a predefined event requiring image provision.

[0147] The electronic device (1000) can identify whether a request to provide an image is a request to provide a three-dimensional image (S920). Specifically, when a request to provide an image is received, the electronic device (1000) can identify whether the request to provide an image is a request to provide a three-dimensional image or a request to provide a two-dimensional image. Information regarding whether the request to provide an image is a request to provide a three-dimensional image or a two-dimensional image can be transmitted in synchronization to the light emitting unit (110) and the driving unit (400).

[0148] If the request for providing an image is a request for providing an image in three dimensions, the electronic device (1000) can control a plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) to be arranged on top of a plurality of first lenses (10) included in the second lens sheet (120-2) (S930). In addition, the electronic device (1000) can control the light emitting unit (110) to emit light corresponding to the three-dimensional image (S940). Accordingly, the pairs of first lenses (10) arranged side by side in the vertical direction can provide a three-dimensional image by outputting light incident from the light emitting unit (110) in a preset direction.

[0149] If the request for providing an image is a request for providing an image in two dimensions, the electronic device (1000) can control the driving unit (400) so that the plurality of first lenses (10) included in the first lens sheet (120-1) are arranged on top of the plurality of second lenses (20) included in the second lens sheet (120-2) (S950). In addition, the electronic device (1000) can control the light emitting unit (110) to emit light corresponding to the two-dimensional image (S960). Accordingly, light incident from the light emitting unit (110) can be output in a second direction to provide a two-dimensional image by transmitting through the plurality of lens sheets (120).

[0150] Meanwhile, the control method of the electronic device (1000) according to the above-described embodiment may be implemented as a program and provided to the electronic device (1000). In particular, the program including the control method of the electronic device (1000) may be stored and provided in a non-transitory readable medium.

[0151] Specifically, in a non-transitory computer-readable recording medium including a program for executing a method for controlling an electronic device (1000), the method for controlling an electronic device (1000) comprises the steps of: receiving a request for providing an image; identifying whether the request for providing an image is a request for providing an image in three dimensions; if the request for providing an image is a request for providing an image in three dimensions, controlling a plurality of first lenses (10) included in a first lens sheet (120-1) to be arranged on top of a plurality of first lenses (10) included in a second lens sheet (120-2), and controlling a light emitting unit (110) to emit light corresponding to a three-dimensional image; and if the request for providing an image is a request for providing an image in two dimensions, controlling a driving unit (400) to be arranged on top of a plurality of second lenses (20) included in a second lens sheet (120-2), and controlling a light emitting unit (110) to emit light corresponding to a two-dimensional image. It may include a step of controlling the emission unit (110).
