[0001] A SAFETY DEVICE FOR A TWO-WHEELER

[0002] EARLIEST PRIORITY DATE

[0003] This Application claims priority from a Complete patent application filed in India having Patent Application No. 202321080419, filed on November 27,2023 and titled “A SAFETY DEVICE FOR A TWO-WHEELER”.

[0004] FIELD OF INVENTION

[0005] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a field of two-wheeler devices and more particularly to a safety device for a two-wheeler.

[0006] BACKGROUND

[0007] Currently, it is observed that only 35 percent of people follow road safety rules while riding. Specifically, riding a two-wheeler without a helmet attracts fines in India. Governments around the world have adopted stringent motor vehicle safety standards to improve the safety of motor vehicle riders and passengers, and in many cases save lives.

[0008] The helmet is commonly used to protect against potential head injuries while riding two-wheelers. Further, the helmet is arguably the single most effective safety device available to provide protection for a user's head, brain and face and to mitigate the risk of head injury and death from bicycle crashes. Further, studies indicate that helmets can reduce the risk of brain injuries by 88 percent in the event of an accident. Given the effective protection afforded by safety helmets, it is essential for riders of two-wheelers to wear a helmet with more consistency. However, when moving on a vehicle, riders may forget or choose not to wear a helmet. This can be a dangerous behavior as the rider is more prone to serious head injuries during an accident without a helmet to protect their head.

[0009] Apart from the aforementioned importance of wearing the helmet, there are several other safety measures that one must ensure during riding. For instance, lifting the sidestand to an upward position prior to riding the two-wheeler. If the two-wheeler travels while the side stand is in the standing position, the side stand hinders the traveling of the two-wheeler, and in the worst case, the two-wheeler falls over. Likewise, it is vital for riders to ensure proper positioning of the side mirrors as one can avoid accidents by seeing through the side mirrors.

[0010] Hence, there is a need for an improved safety device for a two-wheeler to address the aforementioned issue(s).

[0011] OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION

[0012] An objective of the invention includes to ensure that safety measures are managed by a rider prior to movement of a two-wheeler.

Furthermore, the safety device is electrically coupled to a self-start switch positioned on a handlebar of the two-wheeler to actuate the self-start switch upon completion of the audio announcement thereby reminding the rider to ensure the one or more safety measures prior to riding the two-wheeler.

[0029] FIG. 1 is a schematic representation of a safety device for a two-wheeler in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The safety device (100) is an automated announcement device that is placed on a handlebar of the two-wheeler (105). The twowheeler (105) may be understood as all vehicles having two wheels. Examples of the two-wheeler (105) includes, but is not limited to, bicycles, scooters, mopeds, motorized bicycles, race bikes, go-cart drivers, snowmobile drivers, and motorcycles. Further, the safety device (100) includes an audio module (110), a relay module (115) and a timer module (120).

[0030] The audio module (110) is adapted to generate an audio announcement for a predetermined time period wherein the audio announcement notifies a rider of the twowheeler (105) to ensure one or more safety measures prior to actuation of the twowheeler (105). In one embodiment, the audio announcement is an automated female or male voice. Typically, the audio announcement reminds the rider of the one or more safety measures. In one embodiment, the one or more safety measures includes, but is not limited to, alerting the rider to wear a helmet, alter the position one or more side glass and lift a side-stand from a rest position.

[0031] The safety device (100) also includes a sensor (not shown in Fig. 1) to detect the position of the one or more side glass and the side-stand of the two-wheeler. Examples of the sensor includes, but is not limited to magnetic sensors such as, Reed switches and Hall elements. Typically, the two-wheeler (105) has a side-stand mounted on the left-hand side to support the two-wheeler when stationary. The side-stand then folds upward against a frame for travel. When the side-stand is inadvertently left down in a parking position during travel, contact of the side-stand with the ground, for example during a left-hand turn, can result in loss of control of the two-wheeler and may cause serious injury to the rider. Therefore, it is vital to ensure that the side-stand is lifted upward during travel.

[0032] It must be noted that the audio announcement is generated before the rider starts / actuates the two-wheeler (105). Further, the audio announcement is generated for the said predetermined time period. In one embodiment, the predetermined time period is 20 seconds. Upon completion of the said predetermined time period, the audio announcement stops. Subsequently, the rider actuates the two-wheeler (105) to commence riding.

[0033] The relay module (115) is configured to repeat the audio announcement based on the predetermined time period at each occurrence of the two-wheeler (105) stationary. Typically, during the navigation of the two-wheeler (105) to facilitate the rider to reach a destination, the rider may encounter one or more brief stops at multiple places, for instance at traffic signals. In such a scenario, the said safety measures must be reinforced. Therefore, the relay module (115) repeats the audio announcement upon detecting that the two-wheeler (105) is stationary for a certain period of time. In one embodiment, the audio announcement is replayed when the two-wheeler (105) is stationary for more than one minute. It must be noted that the audio module (110) transmits a signal to the relay module (115) to repeat the audio announcement.

[0034] The timer module (120) is operatively coupled to the audio module (110) and the relay module (115). Further, the timer module (120) is configured to track the predetermined time period and subsequently trigger the audio module (110) and the relay module (115) to generate the audio announcement.

[0035] Further, the safety device (100) is electrically coupled to an ignition mechanism of the two-wheeler (105) to activate the safety device (100) in response to energizing the ignition mechanism. The ignition mechanism is unfastened in response to the completion of the audio announcement and subsequently the self-start switch (125) is actuated.

[0036] Furthermore, the safety device (100) is electrically coupled to a self-start switch (125) positioned on a handlebar of the two -wheeler (105) to actuate the self-start switch (125) upon completion of the audio announcement thereby reminding the rider to ensure the one or more safety measures prior to riding the two -wheeler (105). The self-start switch (125) is configured with a starter mechanism. In one embodiment, if the rider turns the ignition of the two-wheeler OFF for 10 seconds only, then the safety device (100) will allow the rider to use the self-start switch (125). On the other hand, if the ignition of the two-wheeler is turned OFF for more than 10 seconds, then the audio announcement is replayed so that the rider listens to the said audio announcement before starting the two-wheeler (105).

[0037] In one embodiment, the rider can start the two-wheeler (105) via a kick start in case of an emergency. In such an embodiment, the audio announcement is not generated and is avoided.

[0038] FIG. 2 is a schematic representation of the safety device and corresponding electrical connections of FIG. 1 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The safety device (100) further includes a battery unit (130) electrically coupled to the audio module (110). It must be noted that the safety device (100) is connected to the self-start switch (125) via an incoming electrical wire. Likewise, the self-start switch (125) is connected to the ignition mechanism via an outgoing wire.

[0039] Consider a rider X starting the two-wheeler (105). At the time when the rider inserts a key to start the two-wheeler (105), the ignition mechanism is energized. Consequently, the safety device (100) is activated. The audio announcement is generated for 20 seconds. At this point, the circuit of ignition and the self-start switch is closed. The audio announcement reminds the rider X to ensure one or more safety measures, for instance, to wear a helmet, lift the side-stand upwards and position the side mirrors appropriately. Upon completion of the 20 seconds, the audio announcement stops. At this point, the circuit of ignition and the self-start switch is opened. Consequently, the rider X starts the two-wheeler to reach a destination. During the navigation, if the rider X stops for more than 10 seconds, the audio announcement is replayed. This ensures that the rider X has been reminded about the safety measures.

[0040] FIG. 3 is a flow chart describing the method to operate the safety device for the twowheeler in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The method (300) includes generating, by an audio module of the safety device, an audio announcement for a predefined duration of time wherein the audio announcement notifies a rider of the two-wheeler to ensure one or more safety measures prior to actuating the twowheeler at step (302).

[0041] Further, the method (300) includes repeating, by a relay module of the safety device, the audio announcement based on the predetermined time period at each occurrence of the two-wheeler being stationary at step (304).

[0042] Furthermore, the method (300) includes tracking, by a timer module of the safety device, the predetermined time period and subsequently trigger the generation of the audio announcement at step (306).

[0043] The method (300) also includes activating the safety device in response to energizing the ignition mechanism. The method (300) also includes actuating a self-start switch by the safety device upon completion of the audio announcement thereby reminding the rider to ensure the one or more safety measures prior to riding the two-wheeler.

[0044] Various embodiments of the safety device for a two-wheeler described above enables various advantages. The safety device is capable of fastening the two-wheeler for a predetermined time period, for instance 20 seconds, prior to starting the two-wheeler. During this period, the audio announcement reminds the rider of the safety measures by the audio module. Further, during the navigation of the two-wheeler to the destination, the safety device is capable of replaying the audio announcement by the relay module. This ensures that the safety measures are reminded after every momentary stop.

[0045] It will be understood by those skilled in the art that the foregoing general description and the following detailed description are exemplary and explanatory of the disclosure and are not intended to be restrictive thereof. While specific language has been used to describe the disclosure, any limitations arising on account of the same are not intended. The figures and the forgoing description give examples of embodiments. Those skilled in the art will appreciate that one or more of the described elements may well be combined into a single functional element.
