Abstract

Example embodiments of the present disclosure relate to devices, methods, and computer storage medium for communication. A network device deployed with an AI / ML model may receive time information from an LMF, and then determine an inference time based on the time information. The network device may perform a model inference at the inference time to determine output information for positioning corresponding to a specific timestamp. As such, different network devices may determine respective inference time based on the same time information from the LMF, and timestampes of different output information from different network devices may be synchronous for the LMF. Therefore, a performance of the AI / ML model may be guaranteed.

[0049] As used herein, a model may be equivalent to at least one of the following: an AI / ML model, an ML model, an AI model, a data-driven, a data processing model, an algorithm, a functionality, a procedure, a process, an entity, a function, a feature, a feature group, a model identifier (ID) , an ID, a functionality ID, a configuration ID, a scenario ID, a site ID, or a dataset ID. As a result, the above terms may be used interchangeably.

[0050] In some embodiments, the model may be represented by or associated with a channel, a resource, a resource set, a reference signal (RS) resource, an RS resource set, an RS port, a set of RS ports, an RS port ID, or a set of RS port IDs.

[0051] In some embodiments, the model may comprise a set of weights values that may be learned during training, e.g. for a specific architecture or configuration, where a set of weights values may also be called a parameter set.

[0052] In some embodiments, the model may be used to predict a target cell, or measurements of a set of beams of a set of candidate cells in future based on at least historical measurements (e.g., L1-RSRP, L1-SINR) of a set of beams of a set of candidate cells.

[0053] In some embodiments, an input of the AI / ML model (i.e., AI input) may refer to the input of a model and indicate data inputted into the model, which may be equivalent to data.

[0054] In some embodiments, an output of AI / ML model (i.e., AI output) may refers to the output of a model and indicate result (s) outputted by the model, which is equivalent to label / data.

[0055] Multi-RTT positioning is a technique used in wireless communication systems. The mobile device sends signals to a fixed reference point (anchors) , and the reference point bounce back a signal to the device. The mobile device and anchors record the time difference and report it the computing equipment. With the RTT measurements from at least three anchors, the device can use triangulation techniques to determine its position. By gathering the differences of the measurements, the system can calculate the distances between the device and each anchor. Using this information and the known positions of the anchors, the system can calculate the device's position. Multi-RTT positioning offers higher accuracy compared to single-RTT methods because it considers the round-trip time to multiple anchors, allowing for more precise distance measurements. This technique is particularly useful in indoor environments where global position system (GPS) signals might be weak or unavailable. It's commonly employed in technologies like Wi-Fi positioning systems, Bluetooth-based positioning, and other indoor positioning systems to provide accurate  location information for various applications, such as indoor navigation, asset tracking, and location-based services.

[0056] The Multi-RTT positioning method makes use of the UE Rx-Tx time difference measurements and downlink-positioning reference signal-reference signal received power (DL-PRS-RSRP) of downlink signals received from multiple transmission and reception points (TRPs) , measured by the UE and the measured gNB Rx-Tx time difference measurements and uplink-sounding reference signal-reference signal received power (UL-SRS-RSRP) at multiple TRPs of uplink signals transmitted from UE. The UE measures the UE Rx-Tx time difference measurements (and optionally DL-PRS-RSRP of the received signals) using assistance data received from the positioning server, and the TRPs measure the gNB Rx-Tx time difference measurements (and optionally UL-SRS-RSRP of the received signals) using assistance data received from the positioning server. The measurements are used to determine the RTT at the positioning server which are used to estimate the location of the UE.

[0057] In the Multi-RTT positioning method, the UE position is estimated based on measurements performed at both, UE and TRPs. The measurements performed at the UE and TRPs are UE / gNB Rx-Tx time difference measurements (and optionally DL-PRS-RSRP and UL-SRS-RSRP) of DL-PRS and UL-SRS, which are used by an LMF to determine the RTTs.

[0058] FIG. 1A illustrates an overall procedure 110 of Multi-RTT positioning in next generation –radio access network (NG-RAN) . The following steps are involved in the procedure 110.

[0059] Step 0. The LMF may use the procedure, such as a new radio positioning protocol A (NRPPa) DL PRS configuration information exchange, to obtain the TRP information required for Multi-RTT positioning.

[0060] Step 1. The LMF may request the positioning capabilities of the target device using the long term evolution positioning protocol (LPP) Capability Transfer procedure.

[0061] Step 2. The LMF sends a NRPPa POSITIONING INFORMATION REQUEST message to the serving gNB to request UL information for the target device.

[0062] Step 3. The serving gNB determines the resources available for UL-SRS and configures the target device with the UL-SRS resource sets at step 3a.

[0063] Step 4. The serving gNB provides the UL-SRS configuration information to the LMF in a NRPPa POSITIONING INFORMATION RESPONSE message. It is noted that it is up to implementation on whether SRS configuration is provided earlier than DL-PRS configuration.

[0064] Step 5. In the case of semi-persistent or aperiodic SRS, the LMF may request activation of UE SRS transmission by sending a NRPPa Positioning Activation Request message to the serving gNB of the target device. The gNB then activates the UE SRS transmission and sends a NRPPa Positioning Activation Response message. The target device begins the UL-SRS transmission according to the time domain behavior of UL-SRS resource configuration.

[0065] Step 6. The LMF provides the UL information to the selected gNBs in a NRPPa MEASUREMENT REQUEST message. The message includes all information required to enable the gNBs / TRPs to perform the UL measurements.

[0066] Step 7. Each gNB configured at step 6 measures the UL-SRS transmissions from the target device.

[0067] Step 8. Each gNB reports the UL-SRS measurements to the LMF in a NRPPa Measurement Response message.

[0068] Step 9. The LMF sends a NRPPa POSITIONING DEACTIVATION message to the serving gNB.

[0069] AI / ML based positioning has been introduced to enhance the positioning accuracy, especially for indoor scenario with low line of sight (LOS) condition probability. For the study of benefit (s) and potential specification impact for AI / ML based positioning accuracy enhancement, one-sided model whose inference is performed entirely at the UE or at the network is prioritized in Rel-18 study item (SI) .

[0070] For AI / ML-assisted positioning, a “single-TRP construction” and a “multi-TRP construction” are being discussed. Single-TRP construction: the input of the ML model is the channel measurement between the target UE and a single TRP, and the output of the ML model is for the same pair of UE and TRP. Multi-TRP construction: the input of the ML model contains N sets of channel measurements between the target UE and N (N>1) TRPs, and the output of the ML model contains N sets of values, one for each of the N TRPs.

[0071] In some cases, three constructions may be evaluated for the AI / ML assisted  positioning:

[0072] · Single-TRP, same model for N TRPs

[0073] · Single-TRP, N models for N TRPs

[0074] · Multi-TRP (i.e., one model for N TRPs)

[0075] For example, a model complexity and computation complexity for a target UE at different cases are shown in Table 1 below.

[0076] Table 1

[0077] In some cases, there may be N TRPs (TRP 0, TRP 1, …, TRP (N-1) ) used for AI / ML based positioning, and direct AI / ML positioning (FIG. 1B) and assisted AI / ML positioning (FIGS. 1C-1E) may be evaluated. FIG. 1B illustrates an example schematic of direct AI / ML positioning with an output is the UE location. FIG. 1C illustrates an example schematic of assisted AI / ML positioning with multi-TRP construction, FIG. 1D illustrates an example schematic of assisted AI / ML positioning with single-TRP construction and one model for N TRPs, and FIG. 1E illustrates an example schematic of assisted AI / ML positioning with single-TRP construction and N models for N TRPs.

[0078] As shown in FIGS. 1C-1E, the assisted AI / ML positioning (may also be referred to as AI / ML assisted positioning) can be applied using input data (such as channel impulse response (CIR) , power delay profile (PDP) , or delay of path (DP) ) associated with one single TRP or multiple TPRs. For the former scenario, N models with different parameters or a single model may be deployed to estimate time information (e.g., time of arrival (TOA)) for N TRPs, which may be regarded as a distributed model on each TRP. In the latter scenario, a single comprehensive model (i.e. a centralized model) utilizes the data from multiple TRPs as the input and produces the multiple TOAs corresponding to the multiple TRPs.

[0079] It is observed that, comparing with a multi-TRP case (acentralized model) , using N models for N TRPs (distributed model) in a single-TRP scenario may lead to performance benefits. For example, training a specific model for a particular environment between the Rx device and Tx device enhances performance. For example, utilizing the same model for multiple TRPs can be considered as a unified model complexity, reducing the overall complexity. For example, deploying the model with different parameters to various devices is achievable, considering the capabilities of each device. For example, a distributed model is simpler since it applies to a single environment, while a centralized model is designed to accommodate multiple environments. However, details on the N models for N TRPs in a single-TRP scenario are still needed to be studied.

[0080] Since different TRPs may use separate deployed model for model inference, different TRPs may perform the model inference at different time. FIG. 1F illustrates an example schematic for different inference time.

[0081] As shown in FIG. 1F, three gNBs are designated to estimate the TOA between the individual gNB and the target UE by respective deployed AI / ML model. gNB 1 has a model  1, gNB 2 has a model 2, and gNB 3 has a model 3. It is assumed that an input of the model is a CIR and an output of the model is a TOA. As shown in FIG. 1F, gNB 1 and gNB 2 may perform the model inference at t1, and gNB 3 may perform the model inference at t2.

[0082] In some cases, the outputs TOA1, TOA2, and TOA 3 cannot be used at LMF to achieve the horizontal accuracy @90%=1m, if: x = 3km / h, and |t1-t2|>1.2s; x = 30km / h, and |t1-t2|>0.12s; or x = 120km / h, and |t1-t2|>0.03s.

[0083] In this event, gNBs deployed with assisted AI / ML models may face uncertainty regarding when to execute model inference. If a random inference time is assigned, the assisted AI / ML models may yield irrelevant results, leading to inefficiencies in AI / ML-based positioning. Therefore, a mechanism for model inference time at different gNBs needs to be proposed.

[0084] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of communication. In the solution, a network device deployed with an AI / ML model may receive time information from an LMF, and then determine an inference time based on the time information. Accordingly, the network device may perform a model inference at the inference time to determine output information for positioning corresponding to a specific timestamp. As such, different network devices may determine respective inference time based on the same time information from the LMF. Alternatively, a network device deployed with an AI / ML model may receive time information from an LMF that indicates the timestamp of model output, and generates the output corresponding to the indicated timestamp. Therefore, a performance of the AI / ML model may be guaranteed, and thus outputs from multiple network devices may be used for positioning accurately e.g. at the LMF. Therefore, a positioning for a terminal device may be guaranteed. Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0085] FIG. 2 illustrates an example communication system 200 in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. The communication system 200 may also be called as a network environment, a network system, a communication environment, a communication network, or the like, the present disclosure does not limit this aspect. The communication system 200 includes a terminal device 210, multiple network devices 220-1 to 220-N, and an LMF 230. For example, the LMF 230 may also be called as a location and mobility function. It should be appreciated that the LMF 230 may be located in the access network or core network.

[0086] The multiple network devices 220-1 to 220-N (N is a positive integer, e.g. N=3) may be separately or collectively be referred to as a network device 220, which may be a gNB or a TRP.

[0088] Communications in the system 200, between the network device 220 and the terminal device 210 for example, may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , comprising, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , the fifth generation (5G) and the sixth generation (6G) and on the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: Code Divided Multiple Address (CDMA) , Frequency Divided Multiple Address (FDMA) , Time Divided Multiple Address (TDMA) , Frequency Divided Duplexer (FDD) , Time Divided Duplexer (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Divided Multiple Access (OFDMA) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.

[0089] In the system 200, the terminal device 210 can communicate with the LMF 230 according to any proper communication protocol, such as an LTE positioning protocol (LPP) . It is to be understood that other protocol may also be applied and will not be listed herein.

[0090] Embodiments of the present disclosure can be applied to any suitable scenarios.  For example, embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented at reduced capability NR devices. Alternatively, embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented in one of the followings: NR multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) , NR sidelink enhancements, NR systems with frequency above 52.6GHz, an extending NR operation up to 71GHz, narrow band-Internet of Thing (NB-IOT)  / enhanced Machine Type Communication (eMTC) over non-terrestrial networks (NTN) , NTN, UE power saving enhancements, NR coverage enhancement, NB-IoT and LTE-MTC, Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) , NR Multicast and Broadcast Services, or enhancements on Multi-Radio Dual-Connectivity.

[0091] It is to be understood that the numbers of devices (i.e., the terminal devices 210 and the network device 220) and their connection relationships and types shown in FIG. 2 are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. The system 200 may include any suitable numbers of devices adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0092] It has been agreed to study and provide inputs on benefit (s) and potential specification impact at least for the following cases of AI / ML based positioning accuracy enhancement:

[0093] · Case 1: UE-based positioning with UE-side model, direct AI / ML or AI / ML assisted positioning;

[0094] · Case 2a: UE-assisted / LMF-based positioning with UE-side model, AI / ML assisted positioning;

[0095] · Case 2b: UE-assisted / LMF-based positioning with LMF-side model, direct AI / ML positioning;

[0096] · Case 3a: NG-RAN node assisted positioning with gNB-side model, AI / ML assisted positioning;

[0097] · Case 3b: NG-RAN node assisted positioning with LMF-side model, direct AI / ML positioning.

[0098] If multiple AI / Ml models are deployed at different entities, e.g. case 3a, the distributed model needs to harmonize the model inference time or the timestamp of model output among the multiple AI / ML models.

[0099] For case 3a, the model input is generated by:

[0100] · If the model input is collect by DL RS,

[0101] - obtain the measurement by channel information based on DL RS.

[0102] - extract the measurement report from the measurement. The report is transferred from the UE to the network and could include delay, power and / or phase information.

[0103] - construct the model input what is used at the gNB side model from the received measurement, which could be CIR, PDP or DP.

[0104] · If the model input is collect by UL RS,

[0105] - obtain the measurement by channel information based on UL RS.

[0106] - construct the model input what is used at the gNB side model from the measurement, which could be CIR, PDP or DP.

[0107] Reference is further made to FIG. 3, which illustrates a signalling chart illustrating communication process 300 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The process 300 may involve a network device 301 deployed with an AI / ML model and the LMF 230.

[0108] With reference to FIG. 2, the network device 301 may be one of the network devices 220 which has a deployed AI / ML model. For ease of description, assuming that there are 3 (N=3) network devices 220, such as gNB 1, gNB 2, and gNB 3. In some cases, each of the gNB 1, gNB 2, and gNB 3 may be deployed with an AI / ML model. In some cases, one of the gNB 1, gNB 2, and gNB 3 may not be deployed with an AI / ML model, for example, there is no AI / ML model at gNB 3. It is to be understood that the models at different entities (such as gNB 1 and gNB 2) may be the same (same model parameters) or different (different model parameters) .

[0109] In the process 300, the LMF 230 determines time information for model inference at 310, and then the LMF 230 transmits the time information to the network device 301 at 320. The time information for model inference can be the time that implement model monitoring or the timestamp of model output. In the process 300, the network device 301 determines an inference time for model inference or timestamp of model output based on the time information received from the LMF 230 at 330.

[0110] In some scenarios, part of N network devices 220 may be deployed an AI / ML model, and others of N network devices 220 do not have an AI / ML model. For a specific example, it is assumed that there are 3 gNBs, gNB 1 has an AI / ML model, gNB 2 has no AI / ML model,  and gNB 3 has an AI / ML model.

[0111] In some implementations, an AI / ML model may be trained to predict specific information with the same timestamp as the model input. With reference to FIG. 4A, a model 410 may generate an output having a timestamp that is the same as that for the input. In some example embodiments, it is assumed that the AI / ML model deployed at gNB 1 / gNB 3 can generate output information that corresponds to a timestamp of a current input without any advance or delay.

[0112] In some example embodiments, the LMF 230 may determine (or generate) the time information for model inference based on a resource configuration of a reference signal for positioning, for example, the reference signal for positioning may be an SRS.

[0113] In some example embodiments, the time information may indicate a model inference time window. In some examples, the time information may include a central time of the time window and a time length of the time window. For example, the central time of the time window may be a specific time point of a resource configuration of a reference signal for positioning, e.g., a time point associated with a configuration for SRS. In some examples, the time length of the time window may be related with a latency of model inference. As an example, if the AI / ML models deployed at different network devices are the same, then the time length of the time window may be determined based on the latency of the AI / ML model. As another example, if the AI / ML models deployed at different network devices are different, then a minimum value among multiple lengths determined based on respective latencies of the AI / ML models may be used as the time length of the time window. In some other examples, the time information may include a central time of the time window, which may be the specific time point of a resource configuration of a reference signal for positioning.

[0114] In some examples, the time information may be transmitted to some or all network devices, for example, those network devices with deployed AI / ML model (such as gNB 1 and gNB 3) may receive the time information.

[0115] Upon receiving the time information from the LMF 230, the network device 301 may determine the model inference time window. In some examples, the central time of the time window is indicated by the time information. In some examples, the time length of the time window may be indicated by the time information or may be predefined / preconfigured. For example, the time length of the time window may be determined based on a latency of  the AI / ML model deployed at the network device 301.

[0116] In some example embodiments, the network device 301 may determine an inference time within the time window. In some example embodiments, the network device 301 may perform a model inference at the inference time based on an input (model input, input information or the like) .

[0117] In some example embodiments, input information may be generated at another time. The network device 301 may determine whether the input information is valid at the inference time. In some examples, if the input information is valid at the inference time, the network device 301 may generate an output (model output, output information) by using the deployed AI / ML model with the input information. In some other examples, if the input information is invalid at the inference time, the network device 301 may not perform the model inference.

[0118] FIG. 5A illustrates an example environment 510 with an AI / ML model deployed at gNB 1 and gNB 2 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 5A, there is no AI / ML model deployed at gNB 2, and gNB 2 may receive an SRS at t2 and determine a measurement report of the SRS, then the measurement report may be further provided to the LMF. As shown in FIG. 5A, there is an AI / ML model deployed at gNB 1, and gNB 1 may obtain an input (such as CIR) generated at t1 and determine a model output 1 by using the deployed model. As shown in FIG. 5A, there is an AI / ML model deployed at gNB 3, and gNB 3 may obtain an input (such as CIR) generated at t3 and determine a model output 3 by using the deployed model.

[0119] FIG. 5B illustrates an example schematic of inference time 520 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. FIG. 5B shows a model inference time window with a central time, where the central time is a configured SRS resource time, such as t2. For gNB 1, the input (CIR1) is generated at t1, and is still valid at t11 which is within the model inference time window. Thus, gNB 1 will generate a model output 1 by inputting CIR 1 into its deployed AI / ML model.

[0120] For gNB 3, the input (CIR2) is generated at t3, which is invalid at any time within the model inference time window. Thus, gNB 3 will not perform a model inference, that is, a model output 3 will not be generated at gNB 3.

[0121] As such, there is no need for gNB 3 to perform model inference since its output may be regarded as not accurate. Therefore, the complexity requirements for the model can be relatively low, as it does not necessitate predictive capabilities.

[0122] It is to be noted that the above embodiments with reference to FIGS. 5A-5B is discussed by assuming that there is one network device (gNB 2) does not have a deployed AI / ML model, however, in actual scenarios, there may be more than one network devices without deployed AI / ML model. In this case, a model inference time window may be a combination (union) of more than one window for more than one SRS configuration.

[0123] In some other implementations, an AI / ML model may be trained to predict specific information with a timestamp that is before or after a timestamp of the model input. With reference to FIG. 4B, a model 420 may be regarded as two steps: the first step is used to predict historical or future feature similar with the input, and the second step is used to predict an output currently needed. That is, the model 420 may predict past or future (delayed) output corresponds to the timestamp of the input. In this case, the model 420 may be referred to as an integrated model.

[0124] However, it is to be understood that the AI / ML model for predicting information before or after a timestamp of the model input may be implemented in some other ways, the present disclosure does not limit this aspect.

[0125] In some example embodiments, the network device 301 may transmit capability information of the model to the LMF 230. In some examples, the capability information of an AI / ML model deployed at the network device 301 may indicate a past or delay (advance / delay) time that the AI / ML model applies. For example, the capability information may be included in an NRPPa message.

[0126] In some example embodiments, the LMF 230 may receive capability information of one or more models deployed at one or more network devices (including the network device 301) . In some example embodiments, the LMF 230 may determine the time information for model inference based on the capability information of one or more models.

[0127] In some embodiments, the time information may include a specific timing set. In some example embodiments, the network device 301 may determine the inference time based on the specific timing set, for example, the inference time may include each time point indicated by the specific timing set.

[0128] In some other embodiments, the time information may include a specific time point of a resource configuration of a reference signal for positioning, e.g., a specific time point of SRS configuration. In some example embodiments, the network device 301 may determine the inference time based on the specific time point of a resource configuration of a reference  signal for positioning (e.g., a specific time point of SRS configuration) . For example, the inference time may be the specific time point of a resource configuration of a reference signal for positioning. For example, the inference time may be a first time point before or after a gap of the specific time point of the resource configuration of the reference signal. For example, the inference time may be a second time point within a period during which input information of the model is valid.

[0129] FIG. 6A illustrates an example environment 610 with an AI / ML model deployed at gNB 1 and gNB 2 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 6A, there is no AI / ML model deployed at gNB 2, and gNB 2 may receive an SRS at t2 and determine a measurement report of the SSB, then the measurement report may be further provided to the LMF. As shown in FIG. 6A, there is an AI / ML model deployed at gNB 1, and gNB 1 may obtain an input (such as CIR) generated at t1 and determine a model output 1 with a timestamp t1+τ1 by using the deployed model. As shown in FIG. 6A, there is an AI / ML model deployed at gNB 3, and gNB 3 may obtain an input (such as CIR) generated at t3 and determine a model output 3 with a timestamp t3-τ2 by using the deployed model.

[0130] FIG. 6B illustrates an example signalling chart of a process 620 between the LMF and the network device in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0131] The LMF 230 transmits a request to the network device 301 for requesting capability information of a model deployed at the network device 301. In FIG. 6B, an NRPPa message at 621 is transmitted, where the NRPPa message may include a request for the capability information of the model. In some examples, the request may be used to indicate to the network device 301 to provide the capability information of the model deployed at the network device 301.

[0132] In some examples, the NRPPa message at 621 may be implemented as signaling of POSITIONING INFORMATION REQUEST, or newly defined AI / ML related signaling.

[0133] Once the AI / ML model is activated for positioning, the network device 301 (gNB 1 or gNB 3 with an AI / ML model) may transmit the capability information of the model to the LMF 230 via an NRPPa message at 622. For example, model parameters may be included in signaling assistance data of POSITIONING INFORMATION RESPONSE for the serving gNB, or in newly defined AI / ML related signaling. For example, the model parameters may  include capability information of predicted past / delayed timing, specifying the timing by a number of frame / subframe / slot / symbol.

[0134] In some examples, if a same model is deployed at each of multiple gNBs, then one gNB (such as a serving gNB) can transmit the capability information of the model to the LMF 230, other gNBs may not transmit the capability information of the model. In this way, signalling overhead can be reduced.

[0135] The LMF 230 provides a specific timing set to the network device 301. In FIG. 6B, an NRPPa message at 623 is transmitted, where the NRPPa message may include the specific timing set. In some examples, the specific timing set may be used to indicate to the network device 301 to predict related output information (such as timing estimation, LOS / NLOS indicator) at the specific timing set by using a deployed AI / ML model. For example, the specific timing set may be configured as periodic or aperiodic timing point. For example, the specific timing set may be represented as a combination of DL frame number, sub frame number, and slot number.

[0136] In some examples, the NRPPa message at 623 may be implemented as signaling of POSITIONING MEASUREMENT REQUEST, or newly defined AI / ML related signaling.

[0137] The network device 301 performs a model inference based on the specific timing set, and determines output information (such as timing estimation, LOS / NLOS indicator) . The network device 301 further transmits the output information to the LMF 230.

[0138] As such, the LMF can coordinate to provide precise model inference times or timestamps for model outputs, contributing to improved localization results.

[0139] FIG. 6C illustrates an example schematic of inference time 630 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0140] With reference to FIG. 6B, the LMF may transmit an NRPPa MEASUREMENT REQUEST message to involved gNBs which includes an SRS configuration. In some examples, the LMF is not required to be aware of any information of the deployed AI / ML model.

[0141] The gNB 2 which does not have a deployed (or activated) AI / ML model may measure one or more SRSs and report the measurement to the LMF.

[0142] The gNB 1 and gNB 3 each with a deployed (or activated) AI / ML model may predict output information (such as TOA, LOS / NLOS indicator) supposing the UE is at an inference  time, where the inference time is determined according the SRS configuration.

[0143] For example, the inference time may be a transmission time for an SRS. With reference to FIG. 6C, symbol 9 in slot n may be determined as the inference time.

[0144] For example, the inference time may be a first time point before or after a fixed or variable gap relative to the transmission time for SRS, and the different models can be set with different gaps. For example, different gaps may be set for different models. With reference to FIG. 6C, symbol 5 in slot n may be used as the inference time for an AI / ML model, symbol 10 in slot n+3 may be used as the inference time for another AI / ML model.

[0145] In some examples, there is no limitation for model inference time within a valid period of the model input at the network device 301. In some examples, the input information may be used for multiple times at multiple time points for model inference, that is, a single input can be used for multiple times inference corresponding the output with different time points at the network device 301.

[0146] As such, additional signaling interactions between gNB and LMF may be avoided, and further it can facilitate the provision of location services with stringent delay requirements.

[0147] In some scenarios, each of the N network devices 220 may have a deployed AI / ML model. For a specific example, it is assumed that there are 3 gNBs, gNB 1 has an AI / ML model 1, gNB 2 has an AI / ML model 2, and gNB 3 has an AI / ML model 3. The models 1-3 may the same, or at least two of the models 1-3 are different. In this case, the configuration of SRS is not necessary for any of the N network devices 220.

[0148] In some implementations, the time information may include a specific timing set. In some example embodiments, a serving gNB may not configure SRS resources to the UE 210, and the LMF 230 may not transmit the configuration of SRS to the network devices 220. In some example embodiments, the LMF 230 may determine and provide a specific timing set to the network devices 220 (including the network device 301) .

[0149] In some example embodiments, the network device 301 may determine that the inference time is the specific timing set, and then perform a model inference.

[0150] In some examples, the LMF 230 may transmit the specific timing set via an NRPPa message. For example, the specific timing set may be included in signaling of MEASUREMENT REQUEST, or newly defined AI / ML related signaling. For example,  the specific timing set may be configured as periodic or aperiodic timing point. For example, the specific timing set may be represented as a combination of DL frame number, sub frame number, and slot number.

[0151] In some examples, the specific timing set may be specific for the network device 301, e.g., a different timing set may be determined and provided to a different network device. In some other examples, the specific timing set may be common for all of the N network devices 220 (such as gNBs 1-3) .

[0152] In some example embodiments, the network device 301 may perform a model inference at each time point within the specific timing set. In some example embodiments, the network device 301 may determine an output (such as timing estimation, LOS / NLOS indicator) supposing the UE 210 is at each time point within the specific timing set.

[0153] In some example embodiments, if the output information can be generated by using the AI / ML model after the model inference, then the output information may be transmitted to the LMF 230. In some other example embodiments, if the network device 301 is not capable to generate the output information, it may transmit failure information to the LMF 230. For example, the failure information may indicate that the output information is failed determined at the specific timing set. In some examples, the failure information may further indicate a reason of the failure, e.g., the model is incomplete, input information is invalid during the specific timing set, etc.

[0154] In some implementations, the time information may include a specific time point of a resource configuration of a reference signal for positioning. In some example embodiments, a serving gNB may configure SRS resources to the UE 210, and the LMF 230 may transmit the configuration of SRS to the network devices 220.

[0155] In some example embodiments, the network device 301 may determine that the inference time is the specific time point of a resource configuration of a reference signal for positioning. In some example embodiments, the network device 301 may determine that the inference time is a time with an offset relative to the specific time point of a resource configuration of a reference signal for positioning, for example, the inference time may be a first time point before or after a gap of the specific time point of the resource configuration of the reference signal. In some examples, the gap may be predefined for the AI / ML model, for example, different models may be set with different gaps.

[0156] In some examples, the LMF 230 may transmit the time information via an NRPPa  message. For example, the time information (the specific time point of a resource configuration of a reference signal for positioning) may be included in an NRPPa MEASUREMENT REQUEST. In some examples, the LMF 230 is not required to be aware of any information of AI / ML model.

[0157] In some example embodiments, the network device 301 may perform a model inference at the inference time, such as the specific time point of the resource configuration of the reference signal, or a first time point before or after a gap of the specific time point of the resource configuration of the reference signal. In some example embodiments, the network device 301 may determine an output (such as timing estimation, LOS / NLOS indicator) supposing the UE 210 is at the inference time.

[0158] In some example embodiments, if the output information can be generated by using the AI / ML model after the model inference, then the output information may be transmitted to the LMF 230. In some other example embodiments, if the network device 301 is not capable to generate the output information, it may transmit failure information to the LMF 230. For example, the failure information may indicate that the output information is failed determined. In some examples, the failure information may further indicate a reason of the failure, e.g., the model is incomplete, input information is invalid at the specific time point of the resource configuration of the reference signal.

[0159] In some examples, there is no limitation for model inference time within a valid period of the model input at the network device 301. In some examples, the input information may be used for multiple times at multiple time points for model inference, that is, a single input can be used for multiple times inference corresponding the output with different time points at the network device 301.

[0160] Continue referring to FIG. 3, after receiving the time information for model inference from the LMF 230, the network device 301 may determine an inference time for model inference based on the time information at 230. In some examples, multiple inference time points may be determined based on the time information.

[0161] In the process 300, the network device 301 performs a model inference at the inference time at 340. In some implementations, output information with a specific timestamp may be determined by the model inference. For example, the specific timestamp may be related with capability information (in model parameters) of the model.

[0162] In the process 300, the network device 301 transmits the output information with the  specific timestamp to the LMF 230. For example, the specific timestamp may be the same as the inference time. For example, the specific timestamp may be a time point before or after the inference time (such as t1+τ1 or t3-τ2 shown in FIG. 6A)

[0163] In the process 300, the LMF 230 may further determine a UE position at 360. In some implementations, multiple outputs / measurements from multiple network devices may be used for positioning, to determine a location of the UE 210.

[0164] According to embodiments with reference to FIGS. 4-6C, an LMF may provide time information for model inference to the network device, and thus the network device deployed with an AI / ML model may determine an inference time based on the time information. As such, different network devices may determine respective inference time based on the same time information from the LMF, and output information for positioning corresponding to a specific timestamp may be determined by respective network devices. The timestampes of different output information from different network devices may be synchronous, and the output information from multiple network devices may be valid for positioning at the LMF. Therefore, the positioning performed by the LMF can be more accurately.

[0165] Reference is further made to FIG. 7, which illustrates a signalling chart illustrating communication process 700 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The process 700 may involve a terminal device 210 and a network device 220 as shown in FIG. 2. For example, the terminal device 210 may be equipped with a motion sensor.

[0166] It is assumed that the terminal device 210 may move over time. The terminal device 210 determines information about a movement of the terminal device 210 at 710. In some implementations, the information may indicate a displacement of the terminal device 210 from a first timestamp to a second timestamp.

[0167] In some implementations, the displacement may include one of the following: a distance offset from a first position at the first timestamp to a second position at the second timestamp, first distance information at a horizontal direction, second distance information at a vertical direction, a direction offset of the first distance information, or information of a reference direction. In some implementations, the information may further include an uncertainty or a confidence of the displacement.

[0168] In the process 700, the terminal device 210 transmits the information about a movement of the terminal device 210 to the network device 220 at 720. In some  implementations, the transmission of the information about the movement may be performed at the second timestamp.

[0169] In some example embodiments, when the terminal device 210 is assigned to monitor the DL RS for model inference data collection, the terminal device 210 measures the RS for timing, power, and / or phase information determination, and optionally estimate and report the displacement. The displacement is a position offset between the current measurement timestamp (asecond timestamp) and the previous measurement timestamp (afirst timestamp) .

[0170] In some examples, the displacement may include one of: horizontal and vertical distances travelled between the current measurement timestamp and the previous measurement timestamp, e.g., with the value range of [0, …, x] and step of 1cm report to the network device; direction (heading) offset of the horizontal displacement measured clockwise, e.g., with the value range of [0, 360] degrees; or a reference direction for the bearing to be determined the direction offset, e.g., geographic north.

[0171] In some examples, if the terminal device 210 connects to a network device at the second timestamp, and the network device is different than another network device the terminal device 210 connects at the first timestamp, the information may be transmitted together with an identity of the measurement.

[0172] In some other examples, the displacement can be provided optionally, depending on UE capability of whether own with the motion sensor. In some examples, the displacement belongs to an attribute of the measurement, and may be reported to the network device 220 with the measurement together.

[0173] In the process 700, the network device 220 determines model input at 730 based on the information about the movement of the terminal device 210.

[0174] FIG. 8 illustrates an example schematic of UE movement 800 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. With reference to FIG. 8, the UE may determine and transmit a measurement 1 at location 1 with timestamp 1. The UE may further determine and transmit a measurement 2 at location 2 with timestamp 2, together with a displacement which may be a position offset between location 1 and location 2. In some examples, the measurement 1 may does not provide any displacement. In some examples, the measurement 2 may further provide an uncertainty or confidence of the displacement.

[0175] Generally, a positioning related model may specify the model input as timing, power, and / or phase information, which may be extracted from a UE measurement report. It is  beneficial if the terminal device 210 can provide the moving information associating with the current measurement relative to the previous measurement, by the invocation of motion sensor. According to embodiments with reference to FIGS. 7-8, the terminal device 210 may report its displacement with the measurement (such as CIR) relative to the previous one to assist the network device 220 to determine the valid period of the input, if the terminal device 210 is responsible for measuring the RS and report it to gNB for model input extraction. Therefore, this solution may facilitate assisting the gNB in determining the validity of current input data, thereby reducing the need for air interface measurements.
