Description

Vehicle Seat ArrangementDescription

[0001] The invention particularly relates to a vehicle seat arrangement, to a vehicle comprising such a vehicle seat arrangement and to a method for manufacturing the vehicle seat arrangement on a vehicle floor.

[0002] Longitudinal adjustment mechanisms are commonly used to adjust a longitudinal position of a vehicle seat in a vehicle. By means of a longitudinal adjustment mechanism, a vehicle seat is arranged, for example, on two pairs of guide rails, one on each lateral side of the vehicle seat, so as to be displaceable relative to a vehicle floor in such a way that the longitudinal position of the vehicle seat can be adjusted by displacing upper rails of the pairs of guide rails relative to lower rails of the pairs of guide rails.

[0003] In addition, a vehicle seat arrangement may comprise a lateral adjustment mechanism that allows to displace the vehicle seat in a lateral direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction.

[0004] EP 3 312 41 A2 describes a vehicle seat arrangement comprising an adjustment device with a longitudinal adjustment mechanism and a lateral adjustment mechanism.

[0005] Another vehicle seat arrangement comprising an adjustment device with a longitudinal adjustment mechanism and a lateral adjustment mechanism is described in US 9, 321, 374 B2.

[0006] The known solutions, however, have a complex construction and are difficult to be adapted to the varying available space in different vehicles.

[0007] It is an object to provide an improved vehicle seat arrangement.

[0008] This object is achieved with a subject-matter having the features of claim 1.

[0009] Accordingly, a vehicle seat arrangement comprises a vehicle seat having a seat part, and that defines a longitudinal axis and a lateral axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and an adjustment device configured for mounting the vehicle seat on a vehicle floor, the adjustment device comprising a longitudinal adjustment mechanism configured for adjusting the vehicle seat along the longitudinal axis and a lateral adjustment mechanism configured for adjusting the vehicle seat along the lateral axis. Therein, the longitudinal adjustment mechanism supports the vehicle seat on the lateral adjustment mechanism.

[0010] By this, a number of identical and / or of off the shelve parts can be used for the longitudinal adjustment mechanism. In addition, it is possible to move the vehicle seat around obstacles, such as a wheelhouse. Thus, an improved vehicle seat arrangement is provided. The vehicle seat may have a backrest part, e.g., mounted to the seat part. The backrest part is arranged at a rear end of the seat part. Opposite the rear end, the seat part has a front end. The front end and the rear end are spaced apart from one another in the longitudinal direction. An occupant sitting on the vehicle seat in the intended position and watching straight forward, the sine of sight of the occupant is parallel to the longitudinal axis. The backrest may be pivotable relative to the seat part around a pivot axis. The pivot axis is parallel to the lateral axis.

[0011] The lateral adjustment mechanism may comprise at least one (guide) rail and at least one carrier mounted on the at least one (guide) rail displaceable along the lateral axis. This allows a simple and robust construction.

[0012] The lateral adjustment mechanism may comprise a plurality of rails, e.g., at least or exactly four rails. The plurality of rails, e.g., four rails, may be of the same shape. The rails may be shaped identically. This allows a particularly simple construction.

[0013] The at least one rail of the lateral adjustment mechanism may comprise at least one elongate hole. At least one mounting bolt may extend through the at least one rail. The at least one mounting bolt may be fixed to the at least one carrier. This allows a simple but robust construction which allows to construct the lateral adjustment mechanism with a little height (along a height axis perpendicular to the lateral axis and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis) .

[0014] Alternatively (or in addition) , the at least one carrier of the lateral adjustment mechanism may comprise at least one elongate hole. At least one mounting bolt may extend through the at least one carrier. The at least one mounting bolt may be fixed to the at least one rail. This also allows a simple but robust construction which allows to construct the lateral adjustment mechanism with a little height.

[0015] In either case, the at least one elongate hole may define a maximum travel of the at least one carrier along the lateral axis. For example, the elongate hole (s) may define two opposite stops. This allows to provide secure definition of the maximum travel without additional parts.

[0016] For example, the lateral adjustment mechanism comprises at least two coaxially displaceable carriers (e.g., two pairs of coaxially displaceable carriers) . The coaxially displaceable carriers may be spaced apart from one another along the lateral axis. This allows a reduced weight and space occupation.

[0017] The at least two coaxially displaceable carriers may be fixed to one another via a strut. This allows a robust construction. Further, this allows a simple configuration for different vehicle seats of vehicles, e.g., using the same design of carriers with struts of different lengths.

[0018] The lateral adjustment mechanism may comprise a plurality of carriers, e.g., at least or exactly four carriers. This allows a lightweight construction occupying little space. The carriers may be same parts. By this, the construction can be further reduced.

[0019] For example, the lateral adjustment mechanism comprises one or more spindles, e.g., two parallel spindles. Therein, each of two pairs of the carriers may be driven by one of the two spindles. By this, a simple and effective drive can be obtained.

[0020] A motor drive unit for driving the lateral adjustment mechanism may be arranged between the two spindles. This allows a comfortable use while occupying only little space.

[0021] The motor drive unit may drive each of the two spindles or each of two gear units. Each of the two gear units may be engaged with one of the two spindles. Each of the spindles or each of the gear units may be driven by the motor drive unit via a respective shaft. This allows to use only one motor drive unit for both sides.

[0022] The longitudinal adjustment mechanism may comprise at least one lower (guide) rail. The longitudinal adjustment mechanism may further comprise at least one upper (guide) rail mounted on the at least one lower rail so as to be displaceable along the longitudinal axis. This allows a simple and robust construction. For example, the longitudinal adjustment mechanism may comprise two pairs of lower and upper rails.

[0023] A motor drive unit for driving the longitudinal adjustment mechanism may be provided. The motor drive unit may be arranged between two pairs of lower and upper rails.

[0024] The at least one lower rail of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism may be fixed to the at least one carrier of the lateral adjustment mechanism, e.g., by means of the at least one mounting bolt or another bolt or the like. By this, a robust construction with a little number of parts is possible.

[0025] The one or more rail (s) of the lateral adjustment mechanism may be configured to be mounted on the vehicle floor. The at least one carrier may be arranged so as to support the at least one lower rail of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism.

[0026] For example, the longitudinal adjustment mechanism has an H-shaped configuration and / or the lateral adjustment mechanism has an H-shaped configuration. It may be provided that the H-shape of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism is oriented perpendicular with respect to the H-shape of the lateral adjustment mechanism. This allows a construction using little space.

[0027] According to an aspect, a vehicle seat arrangement comprises a vehicle seat that defines a longitudinal axis and a lateral axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and an adjustment device configured for mounting the vehicle seat on a vehicle floor, the adjustment device comprising a longitudinal adjustment mechanism configured for adjusting the vehicle seat  along the longitudinal axis, wherein the adjustment device also comprises a further longitudinal adjustment mechanism configured for adjusting the vehicle seat along the longitudinal axis, wherein either the longitudinal adjustment mechanism supports the vehicle seat on the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism or the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism supports the vehicle seat on the longitudinal adjustment mechanism.

[0028] This allows for an extended longitudinal adjustment with relatively short rails. Further, some or all of the components of the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism can be used and mounted selectively as lateral adjustment mechanism or as further longitudinal adjustment mechanism.

[0029] The further longitudinal adjustment mechanism may comprise at least one rail and at least one carrier mounted on the at least one rail displaceable along the longitudinal axis, and / or the longitudinal adjustment mechanism comprises at least one lower rail and at least one upper rail mounted on the at least one lower rail displaceable along the longitudinal axis, wherein the at least one lower rail may be fixedly mounted on the at least one carrier.

[0030] The further longitudinal adjustment mechanism may comprise at least two coaxially displaceable carriers that may be spaced apart from one another along the longitudinal axis and that may be fixed to one another via a strut.

[0031] It is noted that the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism may be constructed as the lateral adjustment mechanism of any aspect or embodiment described herein, just oriented in parallel to the longitudinal axis.

[0032] According to an aspect, a vehicle having a vehicle floor is provided, comprising the vehicle seat arrangement according to any aspect or embodiment described herein. The vehicle seat arrangement may be mounted on the vehicle floor.

[0033] The vehicle may have a longitudinal axis and a lateral axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, the longitudinal axis may be parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle seat and the lateral axis may be parallel to the lateral axis of the vehicle seat.

[0034] According to an aspect, a method for mounting the vehicle seat arrangement according to any aspect or embodiment described herein on a vehicle floor of a vehicle is provided. The method comprises adjusting the longitudinal adjustment mechanism in a first position along the longitudinal axis and / or the lateral adjustment mechanism in a first position along the  lateral axis relative to the vehicle floor and fixing the lateral adjustment mechanism on the vehicle floor with at least one bolt; and adjusting the longitudinal adjustment mechanism in a second position along the longitudinal axis and / or the lateral adjustment mechanism in a second position along the lateral axis relative to the vehicle floor and fixing the lateral adjustment mechanism on the vehicle floor with at least one further bolt.

[0035] According to an aspect, an adjustment device configured for mounting a vehicle seat on a vehicle floor is provided, the adjustment device comprising a longitudinal adjustment mechanism configured for adjusting the vehicle seat along a longitudinal axis and a lateral adjustment mechanism configured for adjusting the vehicle seat along a lateral axis perpendicular to the lateral axis and / or a further longitudinal adjustment mechanism configured for adjusting the vehicle seat along the longitudinal axis, wherein the lateral adjustment mechanism comprises (and / or the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism) four rails of the same shape. Therein, each rail may be in engagement with a respective carrier. The adjustment device of this aspect may be designed in accordance with any aspect or embodiment described herein.

[0068] The adjustment device 1A is configured for mounting the vehicle seat 2 on the vehicle floor 30. The vehicle seat arrangement 4A is mounted on the vehicle floor 30.

[0069] The vehicle seat 2 is longitudinally adjustable along the longitudinal axis X by means of a longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 of the adjustment device 1A. The adjustment device 1A further comprises a lateral adjustment mechanism 11A configured for adjusting the vehicle seat 2 along the lateral axis Y. In the example shown in Fig. 1, the vehicle seat 2 further comprises a height-adjustment mechanism 22 for adjusting the height of the vehicle seat 2 along the height axis Z. The height-adjustment mechanism 22 is mounted on the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10. The height-adjustment mechanism 22 comprises pivot levers pivotably mounted on the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 and pivotably mounted to the seat part 20. Notably, the height-adjustment mechanism 22 is merely an example and the vehicle seat 2 could alternatively be fixedly mounted (e.g., directly) on the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10.

[0070] As shown in Fig. 1, the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 supports the vehicle seat 2 on the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A. The longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 connects the vehicle seat 2 with the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A. The longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 carries the vehicle seat 2. The lateral adjustment mechanism 11A carries the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 and the vehicle seat 2. The longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 is arranged on top of the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A.

[0071] The longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 has two pairs of guide rails, each formed by a lower rail 100A, 100B and an upper rail 101A, 101B. The lower rails 100A, 100B are assigned and mounted to the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A. The upper rails 101A, 101B are assigned and mounted to the height-adjustment mechanism 22. By adjusting the rails 100A, 100B, 101A, 101B longitudinally relative to one another, the longitudinal position of the vehicle seat 2 in the vehicle 3 along the longitudinal axis X can be adjusted.

[0072] The lateral adjustment mechanism 11A comprises rails 110A and carriers 111A. Each carrier 111A is mounted on one of the rails 110A. Here, the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A comprises four rails 110A and four carriers 111A, one carrier 111A for each rail 110A.

[0073] The carriers 111A are mounted on the respective rail 110A displaceable along the lateral axis Y. The rails 110A and carriers 111A are arranged on the four corners of a rectangle. Two pairs of carriers 111A are provided wherein the two carriers 111A of each pair are arranged coaxially displaceable and spaced apart from one another along the lateral axis Y. The two pairs of carriers 111A are spaced apart from one another along the longitudinal axis X.

[0074] The rails 110A are spaced apart from one another. Two coaxially arranged rails 110A are arranged below a front region of the vehicle seat 2 and two coaxially arranged rails 110A are arranged below a rear region of the vehicle seat 2. The rails 110A are shorter than the carriers 111A. The carriers 111A are displaceable along the rails 110A. The rails 110A are aligned parallel to the lateral axis Y. The rails 110A serve as guide rails for the respective carrier 111A. The carriers 111A of the example shown in Fig. 1 are formed as upper rails, but other designs are conceivable as well.

[0075] The rails 110A of the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A are configured to be mounted on the vehicle floor 30 and the carriers 111A support the lower rails 100A, 100B of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10.

[0076] Fig. 2 illustrates the connection of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 with the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A with reference to one of the four carriers 111A. Notably, the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 is supported on the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A on the four carriers 111A in the manner as shown in Fig. 2. Thus, the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 is supported on the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A on four regions defining the edges of a rectangle.

[0077] The carrier 111A is supported on its rail 110A. On top of the carrier 111A the lower rail 100B is mounted. The lower rail 100B is fixed to the carrier 111A by means of at least one fastener, in the present example two bolts 116B secured by a respective nut 13.

[0078] Fig. 2 also illustrates a spindle 102 of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10. The spindle 102 extends along the longitudinal axis X. The spindle 102 is arranged in a space between the lower rail 100B and the upper rail 101B. It is possible to either drive the spindle 102 to displace a rotatably fixed gear unit along the spindle 102, or to rotatably fix the spindle 102 und drive a gear unit engaged with the spindle 102. In the present example, the spindle 102 of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 is fixed to the lower rail 100B, and a gear unit (comprising a nut engaged with the spindle 102) is fixed to the upper rail 101B. The same arrangement is provided on the lower and upper rails 100A, 101A on the opposite lateral side of the vehicle seat 2. A motor drive unit 103 (see, e.g., Fig. 9A) is mounted on a traverse 104 which connects the upper rails 101A, 101B of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 drives the two gear units via respective shafts 105A, 105B. The traverse 104 and shafts 105A, 105B extend in parallel to the lateral axis Y. The lower and upper rails 100A, 100B, 101A, 101B and the traverse 104 are arranged in the shape of an H. The motor drive unit 103 for driving the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 is arranged between the two pairs of lower and upper rails 100A, 100B, 101A, 101B.

[0079] As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the carriers 111A of the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A are also driven by a motor drive unit 113 of the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A. Each two carriers 111A are fixed to one another via a respective strut 118. In the present example, each strut 118 is mounted on two coaxially displaceable carriers 111A. The strut 118 is fixed to each of the two carriers 111A by means of bolts. Each strut 118 is arranged between the respective two carriers 111A.

[0080] The motor drive unit 113 is mounted on a traverse 114A. The traverse 114A is fixed to the two struts 118. The traverse 114A is arranged between the two struts 118A. Thus, the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A has an H-shaped configuration. The H-shape of the longitudinal  adjustment mechanism 10 is oriented perpendicular with respect to the H-shape of the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A. The traverses 104, 114A are oriented perpendicular to one another.

[0081] The motor drive unit 113 drives shafts 115A, 115B. The shafts 115A, 115B extent parallel to the longitudinal axis X. The shafts 115A, 115B drive gear units 119 fixed on each strut 118.

[0082] As can be seen in Fig. 4, for each pair of coaxially displaceable carriers 111A and coaxially arranged rails 110A, a spindle 112 is fixed to each of the two rails 110A. The spindle 112 extends between the two rails 110A. The spindle 112 connects the two rails 110A with one another. The gear unit 119 comprises a nut engaged with the spindle 112. The gear unit 119 in this example further comprises a worm gear engaged with the nut and driven by the respective shaft 115A, 115B. Thus, an activation of the motor drive unit 113 displaces the two struts 118 and the carriers 111A mounted to the struts 118 along the spindles 112 and along the lateral axis Y.

[0083] Optional spacers S are provided to limit the lateral way of travel. The spacers S are U-shaped. The spacers S encompass the spindle 112.

[0084] The lateral adjustment mechanism 11A comprises two parallel spindles 112, wherein each of two pairs of the carriers 111A are driven by one of the two spindles 112. The motor drive unit 113 driving the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A is arranged between the two spindles 112.

[0085] Fig. 5 illustrates the arrangement of the spindle 112, the gear unit 119 and the spacers S. A limited way of lateral travel is defined. More specifically, in this example, a limited way of lateral travel of 5 cm is defined. Using differently sized spacers S, the limited way of travel can be enlarged or reduced depending on the needs or available space in the vehicle 3 in which vehicle seat arrangements 4A are to be mounted.

[0086] The maximum possible way of lateral travel is defined by the rails 110A. One of the rails 110A is shown separately in Fig. 6 and in a perspective view in Fig. 7. The rail 110A is made in one piece. The rail 110A has a base B and two opposing legs L. The legs L are aligned parallel to one another. In a sectional view, the legs L have a U-shaped form. The base B has a central elongate depression.

[0087] The rail 110A has elongate holes E. Specifically, the rail 110A has two elongate holes E. The elongate holes E are linear. Each elongate hole E is formed as a slot. The elongate holes E  are oriented parallel to one another. The elongate holes E are displaced with respect to one another along their length. The rail 110A has a point-symmetric construction.

[0088] All four rails 110A are designed identically. The four rails 110A have the same shape. All four carriers 111A are designed identically. The four carriers 111A have the same shape.

[0089] The carrier 111A is mounted to the rail 110A by hooks H engaged with the legs L. The hooks H are arranged on opposite sides of the carrier 111A. Each hook H grasps around a respective leg of the rail 110A and engages in the U-shaped form thereof. Further, the carrier 111A is mounted to the rail 110A by means of bolts 116A which extend through a respective one of the elongate holes E of the rail 110A. The bolts 116A are shoulder bolts. The bolts 116A are screwed into nut portions 117 of the carrier 111A (with a thread T) . A washer 17 secures the respective bolt 116A on the elongate hole E. Notably, the carrier 111A comprises four nut portions 117, but only two thereof are used. Thereby, the carrier can be applied on all four corners, wherein different ones of the four nut portions 117 are used respectively.

[0090] As can be seen particularly in Fig. 7, the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A further comprises a slider D. The slider D is arranged between the carrier 111A and the rail 110A. The slider D slides along the rail 110A together with the carrier 111A. The slider D is fixed to the carrier 111A, in this example by means of the bolts 116A that extent through the elongate holes E. The slider D contacts the rail 110A. In the present example, the carrier 111A rests on the slider D, while the slider D rests on the rail 110A. When the carrier 111A is displaced relative to the rail 110A, the slider D slides along the rail 110A and the bolts 116A slide along the elongate holes E. The elongate holes E have bent rims to support the bolts 116A.

[0091] The slider D has four support areas for supporting the carrier 111A. On the support portions, holes for the bolts 116A are formed. On two support portions, pins are formed which engage holes in the carrier 111A for positioning the carrier 111A relative to the slider D during mounting.

[0092] Figs. 7 and 8 further illustrate the bolts 116B extending through holes in the carrier (from below upwards) that connect the carrier 111A to the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10. As can be seen in Fig. 8, these holes are provided on a raised portion of the carrier 111A.

[0093] The elongate holes E define the maximum travel of the respective carrier 111A along the lateral axis Y. This construction provides a secure limitation of the maximum travel. In this example, the maximum travel is 54 mm.

[0094] The rails 110A are made of metal. In the present example, the rails 110A are made of steel. The carriers 111A are made of metal. In the present example, the carriers 111A are made of steel. The sliders D are made of plastics. This allows a simple construction and a smooth-running operation.

[0095] For mounting the adjustment device 1A, the mounting bolts 116B may be clinched to the respective carrier 111A as illustrated in Fig. 8. Then the carrier 111A can be mounted with the spacer D and rail 110A using mounting bolts 116A to form a modular kit, see Fig. 7. This modular kit can be used in various differently sized vehicle seats. Four of these modular kits can be used to assemble the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A. Two of those modular kits can be mounted with the spindle 112, gear unit 119 and strut 118 to form a modular unit, see Fig. 4. Two of the modular units can be used to construct the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A, see Fig. 3, additionally mounting the traverse 114A, motor drive unit 113 and shafts 115A, 115B.

[0096] Turning now to Figs. 9A to 9D, a method for mounting the vehicle seat arrangement 4A on the vehicle floor 30 of the vehicle 3 will be described.

[0097] The method comprises adjusting the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 in a first position along the longitudinal axis X and adjusting the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A in a first position along the lateral axis Y relative to the vehicle floor 30, and fixing the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A on the vehicle floor 30 with at least one bolt 12.

[0098] According to Fig. 9A, the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 is arranged in a rear position along the longitudinal axis X and the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A is arranged in a right position. The carriers 111A have cutouts (semi-circular in this example) on opposing sides and a center hole (circular in this example) . Also, the lower rails 110A, 110B of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 have holes 106 (see Figs. 2 and 9A) aligned with the respective hole of the carrier 111A. The bolts 12 are inserted through a hole 106 or cutout of the respective carrier 111A and lower rail 100A, 100B, and through holes in the rail 110A to fix the respective rail 110A on the vehicle floor 30. Here, in the first positions, two bolts 12 are inserted through front holes (in the front-left and front-right carriers 111A) and one trough a front cutout (in the front-left carrier 111A) and one bolt 12 is inserted through a rear cutout.

[0099] Thus, four out of eight bolts 12 are mounted. On the front-left rail 110A, two bolts 12 are mounted. On the front-right rail 110A a bolt 12 is mounted in a right hole. On the read-left rail 110A, a bolt 12 is mounted in a left hole.

[0100] Next, the method comprises adjusting the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 in a second position along the longitudinal axis X and / or the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A in a second position along the lateral axis Y relative to the vehicle floor 30 and fixing the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A on the vehicle floor 30 with at least one further bolt 12.

[0101] In the example of Fig. 9B, the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 is maintained in the first position and the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A is moved to the second (left) position. This clears the access to left hole in the front-left rail 110A through a cutout in the front-right carrier 111A, through which another bolt 12 is inserted.

[0102] Then, as illustrated in Fig. 9C, the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 is moved into the second (front) position and the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A is maintained in the second (left) position. This clears the access to the rear-right rail 110A holes through the hole and a cutout of the rear-right carrier 111A, and further two bolts 12 are inserted therein.

[0103] Next, as illustrated in Fig. 9D, the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 is maintained in the second (front) position and the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A is moved back into the first (right) position. This clears the access to the right hole of the rear-left rail 110A through the hole of the rear-right carrier 111A (and the hole 106 of the lower rail 100B) , and a bolt 12 is inserted therein.

[0104] Fig. 10 shows another vehicle seat arrangement 4B similar to the vehicle seat arrangement 4A described above, so only the differences will be described in the following, wherein collective reference is made to Figs. 10 to 19.

[0105] The lateral adjustment mechanism 11B of the adjustment device 1B comprises two rails 1110B, 110C, namely a front rail 110B and a rear rail 110C. The front rail 110B is made in one piece. The rear rail 110C is made in one piece. The front and rear rails 110B, 110C are arranged parallel to one another. The front and rear rails 110B, 110C are oriented along the lateral direction Y. The lateral adjustment mechanism 11B comprises four carriers 111B. In the present example, the four carriers 111B all have the same design. The rails 110B, 110C have a mirrored design.

[0106] Two carriers 111B are mounted on the front rail 110B displaceable along the lateral axis Y and two carriers 111B are mounted on the read rail 110C displaceable along the lateral axis Y.

[0107] The vehicle seat arrangement 4B is mounted to the vehicle floor 30 via a front mount 14 and a rear mount 15. The front and rear mounts 14, 15 are elongate. The front rail 110B is mounted on the front mount 14 (at two opposing ends of the rail 110B) . The rear rail 110C is mounted on the rear mount 15 (at two opposing ends of the rail 110C) .

[0108] The rails 110B, 110C are both fixedly connected with a traverse 114B. The traverse 114B extends perpendicular to the rails 110B, 110C. a motor drive unit 113 is mounted on the traverse between the rails 110B, 110C. A gear unit 119 is mounted on each rail 110B, 110C. The motor drive unit 113 drives the gear units 119 via shafts. The gear units 119 are engaged with a respective spindle 112. The spindles 112 extend along the respective rail 110B, 110C. Each spindle 112 is fixedly connected with the two carriers 111B on the respective rail 110B, 110C. Thus, an activation of the motor drive unit 113 effects a displacement of the spindles 112 and the carriers 111B along the rails 110B, 110C.

[0109] Optional spacers S limit the allowed way of travel. The spacers S are engaged with the respective spindle 112.

[0110] As can be seen particularly in Figs. 15 and 16, the carriers 111B are mounted on a respective slider D. The spindles 112 are fixed to the sliders D.

[0111] Each rail 110B, 110C comprises elongate holes E for two carriers 111B. Here, each rail 110B, 110C comprises four elongate holes E. For each carrier 111B, two mounting bolts 116A extend through the respective rail 110B, 110C (elongate hole E) and are fixed to the respective carrier 111B. Further, with particular reference to Figs. 15 to 19, these mounting bolts 116A also extend through the respective lower rail 100A, 100B of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10. The lower rails 100A, 100B of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 are fixed to the carriers 111B of the lateral adjustment mechanism 11B by means of the mounting bolts 116A. Thus, the mounting bolts 116A extend through the respective rail 110B, 110C, slider D, carrier 111B and lower rail 100A, 100B. A nut 13 on the lower rail 100A, 100B fixes the respective mounting bolt 116A in the position. Thereby, one mounting bolt 116A and nut 13 fixes the lower rail 100A, 100B to the respective carrier 111B and retains the carrier 111 B on the rail 110B, 110C displaceably as defined by the elongate holes E.

[0112] Turning now to Figs. 20 to 25, a vehicle seat arrangement 4C with an adjustment device 1C is described similar to the vehicle seat arrangements 4A, 4B described above, so only the differences will be described in the following.

[0113] Rails 110D of a lateral adjustment mechanism 11C of the adjustment device 1C are not provided with elongate holes. Rather, carriers 111C of the lateral adjustment mechanism 11C are provided with elongate holes E. Mounting bolts 116A extends through the carriers 111C and are fixed to the rails 110D.

[0114] The four carriers 111C are designed identical to one another. The two rails 110D are designed identical to one another.

[0115] The carriers 111C comprise two projections P on which the lower rails 100A, 100B of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism are mounted (e.g., welded) . The projections P are formed on opposite sides of the respective carrier 111C. The projections P extend through cutouts C of the rails 110D. The cutouts C allow the carriers 111C to be displaced laterally.

[0116] Fig. 23 shows an arrangement before fixation.

[0117] Here, the carriers 111C are supported on a slider D. In one example, the slider D is fixed to the rail 110D and the respective carrier 111C slide along the slider D. Alternatively, the slider D is fixed to the respective carrier 111D and moves therewith along the rail 110D. In the latter case, the slider D also comprises elongate holes.

[0118] Mounting bolts 116A extend through the respective carrier 111C (through the respective elongate hole E) , slider D and rail 110D. A nut 13 is arranged below the rail 110D and fixed to the respective mounting bolt 116A, see particularly Figs. 24 and 25.

[0119] The described adjustment devices 1A-1C can be manufactured in a simple manner using stamped parts. The shoulder bolts 116A provide additional X / Y / Z-stiffness and can control the sliding force with a shoulder height adjustment together with the sliding plastic parts.

[0120] Notably, instead of one motor drive unit 113 for both sides of the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A-11C, two motor drive units can be applied, one for each side. A control unit may be provided to control these two motor drive units.

[0121] The shafts 115A, 115B can be stiff or flexible shafts. The motor dive unit can be mounted to a lower base plate (e.g., on the vehicle floor) to allow an improved space utilization under the vehicle seat.

[0122] Further, the described arrangements allow a reduced height along the height axis Z.

[0123] Also, the force flow from the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 directly into the carriers 111A-111C allows a secure setup.

[0124] Figs. 26 and 27 show a vehicle seat arrangement 4D, comprising the vehicle seat 2 as described above with reference to Fig. 1. The vehicle seat 2 defines the longitudinal axis X and the lateral axis Y perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X as described above.

[0125] The vehicle seat arrangement 4D comprises an adjustment device 1D configured for mounting the vehicle seat 2 on a vehicle floor 30. The adjustment device 1D comprises the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 as described above, configured for adjusting the vehicle seat 2 along the longitudinal axis X. That is, the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 comprises two lower rails 100A, 100B and two upper rails 101A, 101 B mounted on one or the lower rails 101, 101 B, respectively, so as to be displaceable along the longitudinal axis X.

[0126] The longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 comprises (optional) reinforcements 107 surrounding the lower rails 100A, 100B at the locations where the lower rails 100A, 100B are mounted.

[0127] The adjustment device 1D also comprises a further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D. The further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D is also configured for adjusting the vehicle seat 2 along the longitudinal axis X. Either the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 supports the vehicle seat 2 on the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D, as shown in Figs. 26 and 27, or the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D supports the vehicle seat 2 on the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10.

[0128] The further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D comprises four rails 110E and four carriers 111D, each carrier 111D being mounted on one of the rails 110E so as to be displaceable along the longitudinal axis X.

[0129] According to Figs. 26 and 27, the lower rails 101, 101 B longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 of the are fixedly mounted on the carriers 111D of the further longitudinal adjustment  mechanism 11D. The further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D comprises two times two coaxially displaceable carriers 111A-111C being spaced apart from one another along the longitudinal axis X and fixed to one another via a strut 118.

[0130] As shown in Fig. 26, the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D is designed as the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A described above with reference to Figs. 1-9D, wherein the rails 110A and the carriers 111D are simply rotated by 90 degrees to allow a further longitudinal adjustment instead of a lateral adjustment. Therefore, same or similar parts can be used for the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D and the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A. For example, the rails 1110E may be longer than the rails 110A. A construction kit may be provided to construct either the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D or the lateral adjustment mechanism 11A. Due to the similarity of the design and function, reference is made to the above description to avoid repetition. However, the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D could also be designed as the lateral adjustment mechanism 11B-11C of any other example described herein, wherein the rails and carriers are aligned so as to allow a longitudinal adjustment.

[0131] Figs. 28A to 28C show three positions of the vehicle seat 2 along the longitudinal axis X. A diagram with lines is depicted to indicate the adjustability of the vehicle seat. A circle indicates its current position. Parallel curves indicate a possible height adjustment. The longitudinal distance of the inner two of these curves illustrate the range of longitudinal adjustment provided by the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10. The two outer curves illustrate the additional range of longitudinal adjustment provided by the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D.

[0132] Fig. 28A shows a position of the vehicle seat 2 between front and read end positions of both the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 and the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D.

[0133] Fig. 28B shows the foremost position of the vehicle seat 2. Here, both the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 and the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D are adjusted in their front-end positions.

[0134] Conversely, Fig. 28C shows the rearmost position of the vehicle seat 2. Here, both the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 and the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D are adjusted in their rear-end positions.

[0135] That is, the further longitudinal adjustment mechanism 11D allows to extend the longitudinal adjustment range of the longitudinal adjustment mechanism 10 without the need for longer lower and / or upper rails.

[0136] The idea underlying the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described above but can be realized in a different way.
