Description

METHODS FOR CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION (CSI) OMISSION FOR CSI REPORT WITH MULTIPLE CSIs

[0001] FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0002] This document generally describes methods and devices operating in wireless communication systems such as (but not limited to) the ones described in 5G standard documents, known as the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) communication systems.BACKGROUND

[0003] In wireless communications, channel state information (CSI) is a measurement report related to a wireless communication channel between a transmitter (e.g., a base station) and a receiver (e.g., a user equipment (UE) ) . The CSI characterizes the behavior of the wireless channel by including factors such as signal strength, signal-to-noise ratio, fading, interference, and more. The CSI may be used by a network entity (NE) for resource allocation, beamforming, optimizing Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) configurations, interference mitigation, adaptive modulation and coding, handover and mobility management, resource scheduling, and more. The CSI may be estimated / measured by the UE after comparing (1) a known CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) , which is associated with a specific resource configured by the NE, and used for measuring and reporting channel conditions between the UE and the NE, with (2) a corresponding measured signal. The term NE indicates in this document a base station (BS) , a distributed unit of a distributed BS or another network device of a radio access network (RAN) in communication with the UE, or any element of the core network (CN) .

[0004] The NE may configure a CSI report by radio resource control (RRC) signaling, e.g., CSI-ReportConfig, where the CSI-RS is used as channel measurement resource (CMR) for the UE to measure the downlink channel. Meanwhile, the NE may configure some interference measurement resource (IMR) for UE to measure interference.

[0005] Based on the configured associated CMR and IMR, the UE is able to identify the CSI, which may include at least one of a rank indicator (RI) , precoder matrix indicator (PMI) , channel quality indicator (CQI) , and layer indicator (LI) . RI and PMI are used to indicate the digital precoder, CQI is used to indicate the signal-to-interference plus noise (SINR) status to assist the NE in determining the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) , and LI is used to identify the strongest layer for the reported precoder indicated by RI and PMI.

[0006] There are two types (Type 1 and Type 2) for CSI reporting, with each type relying on a two-component codebook. The first component of the codebook is used to select a number of beam vectors and the second component is used to combine the selected beam vectors. The first component is associated with the wideband properties (wideband granularity) while the second component is associated with the subband properties (subband granularity) . A subband is associated with a group of adjacent physical resource blocks. The type 2 CSI reporting is calculated on a subband basis. One issue with the type 2 CSI reporting is the large feedback overhead for reporting the coefficients on a subband basis. Note that that type 1 reports define only the phase of the selected beam, not the amplitude, while type 2 codebook, which is based on CSI feedback, reports the wideband and subband amplitude information of the selected beams.

[0007] The CSI payload for reporting is divided into two parts, CSI part 1 and CSI part 2. The UE may report the CRI, RI, and the CQI for a first codeword by CSI part 1, and report the PMI, LI, and CQI for a second codeword by the CSI part 2. The payload size for the PMI, LI and CQI for the second codeword in CSI part 2 is determined based on the reported RI in CSI part 1. The UE transmits the CSI part 1 and CSI part 2 using different resource elements allocated on physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) or long physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) .

[0008] The maximum payload size for the CSI part 2 on PUSCH or long PUCCH resource allocation is limited and could be less than the size of the CSI. If the total payload size for the CSI on CSI part 2 exceeds the maximum payload size, the UE performs a CSI omission procedure, i.e., the UE selects a high priority portion of the CSI and transmits only the high priority portion that fits into the maximum payload size. For  example, FIG. 1 illustrates the current omission scheme. The figure shows the entire CSI 100 (i.e., CSI associated with plural CSI reports 1 to N, each report including a single CSI) obtained by the UE, being ranked from highest priority (group 0, which is labeled 102, for all CSI reports) to lowest priority (group 2, which is labeled 103, for the Nth report) . FIG. 1 also shows intermediate ranked CSI portions, for example, group 1, which is labeled 104, for CSI report 1, and group 2, which is labeled 106, for CSI report 1 (the other reports are similarly structured) . Because the maximum payload size 108 for CSI part 2 in PUSCH is smaller than the size of the entire CSI 100, the UE only transmits the portion 110 of the CSI reports with the high priority, that fits the maximum payload size 108, and omits the portion 120 of the CSI 100. The omitted portion 120 is simply not transmitted from the UE to the NE.

[0009] As noted above, the indexing of the CSI reports is based on the priority for each CSI report, but also on the type 2 codebook, which includes Type 2 codebook, Type 2 port selection codebook, enhanced Type 2 (eType 2) codebook, eType 2 port selection codebook, further enhanced Type 2 (FeType2) port selection codebook, eType2 codebook for coherent joint transmission, FeType2 port selection codebook for coherent joint transmission, eType2 codebook for predicted PMI, or FeType2 port selection codebook for predicted PMI (all defined in 3GPP TS 38.214) . The group 0 CSI to group 2 CSI for CSI report based on Type 2 codebook are also defined in 3GPP TS 38.214.

[0010] For CSI part 1, if the total payload size for CSI part 1 across all the CSI reports exceeds the maximum payload size, the UE drops the CSI part 1 for the CSI reports with the lower priority.

[0011] The priority of a CSI report is determined based on the time-domain behavior for the CSI report (e.g., aperiodic, semi-persistent, or periodic) , serving cell index, report content, and CSI report configuration identifier (ID) , which is defined in 3GPP TS 38.214.

[0012] However, the existing omission procedure illustrated in FIG. 1 was not designed for situations in which a CSI report includes multiple CSIs. For example, to facilitate multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) pairing, the NE may configure the UE to report multiple CSIs, where different CSIs correspond to different CSI-RS resources for  channel measurement. The NE may transmit different signals using different beams on different CSI-RS resources. Then, the NE can identify the CSIs for different beams, and the NE can determine the UEs for MU-MIMO pairing according to the received CSIs for different beams from different UEs.

[0013] When a UE is triggered or configured to transmit at least one CSI report including multiple CSIs, and the total payload size for CSI part 1 or CSI part 2 exceeds the maximum payload size for CSI part 1 or CSI part 2, respectively, the current omission rules are not designed for omitting parts of the CSI report with multiple CSIs.SUMMARY

[0014] The NE configures the UE for CSI measurements based on multiple CSI reference signal, CSI-RS, resources. As a result, the UE prepares and transmits one or more CSI reports to the NE and at least one of these reports includes multiple CSIs that are associated with different CSI-RS resources for channel measurement and / or interference measurement. Either the UE or the NE or both apply an omission scheme for selecting which CSI report or which component of a CSI report to be transmitted when the CSI report includes multiple CSIs. The omission scheme may be based on a priority ranking in which the multiple CSIs are indexed (e.g., for omission) , from the highest priority to the lowest priority.

[0015] For the priority ranking, the NE and / or the UE may determine the priority of each CSI report based on a number of CSIs of the CSI report, and a maximum number of reported CSIs. Further, the NE and / or the UE may determine the priority for each CSI based on a UE configuration, an NE configuration, or a priority rule. The priority rule may depend on at least one of a CSI-RS resource index, a CSI-RS resource identifier, a spectrum efficiency, a reported rank indicator, or a reported channel quality indicator.

[0016] For the omission scheme, the NE and / or the UE separately determines what information is to be omitted in the CSI part 1 and CSI part 2, based on specific configurations or omission rules for each part. For the CSI part 1, the NE and / or the UE may determine what information to omit at a CSI level, or at a CSI report level, or based on a configurable scheme that selects one of the above noted omission levels.  For the CSI part 2, the NE and / or the UE may determine what information to omit at a CSI level, a CSI report level, based on a hybrid scheme that includes both the CSI level and CSI report level, or based on a configurable scheme that selects one of the above noted omission levels. In one variation for the CSI part 1 or 2, an enhanced CSI omission may be used, which partially supersedes the priority ranking by fitting in a remaining transmission resource, a lower ranked CSI instead of a higher ranked CSI, when the higher ranked CSI exceeds the remaining transmission resource and the lower ranked CSI does not.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0028] Methods and devices described in this section embody techniques related to CSI reporting for situations when at least one CSI report include multiple CSIs and at least one of CSI part 1 or CSI part 2 maximum payload size is smaller than the CSI part 1 or CSI part 2 across all the CSI reports. The embodiment descriptions in this section refer to the accompanying drawings. The same reference numbers in different drawings identify the same or similar elements. The detailed descriptions do not preclude other embodiments within the scope of the appended claims. The embodiments are not limited to the described configurations but may be extended to other arrangements.

[0029] Reference throughout this section to “one embodiment” or “an embodiment” means that a particular feature, structure, or characteristic described in connection with an embodiment is included in at least one embodiment. Thus, the appearances of the phrases “in one embodiment” or “in an embodiment” in various places throughout the specification are not necessarily all referring to the same embodiment. Further, the particular features, structures or characteristics may be combined in any suitable manner in one or more embodiments.

[0030] As discussed in more detail below, a UE, sometimes in collaboration with an NE of a CN, uses the techniques described in this section for selectively transmitting at least one CSI report that includes multiple CSIs. These techniques rely on a priority ranking used by an omission scheme for ranking all the CSIs in all the CSI reports, and then selecting which CSIs are being omitted from transmission. Before discussing the various scenarios of indexing the CSIs and selecting which CSIs to omit, a brief description of a wireless communication system 200 that supports the methods discussed herein is provided with regard to FIG. 2.

[0031] In FIG. 2, the wireless communication system 200 includes a UE 210 and a NE 220 (only one of each is shown for simplicity, but one skilled in the art would understand that many such elements may be present) communicating wirelessly through a wireless communication channel 201. NE 220 may be any element of the BS or RAN or CN, but more generally, the term “network entity” stands for a component with a well-defined network functionality (e.g., BS’s functionality is connecting UEs to the CN including managing communications to and from the UEs) . NE 220 and UE 210 may include  additional functions and interfaces omitted from the figure in the interest of brevity. Signaling channel 201 generally represents both uplink signals (from the UE to the NE) and downlink signals (from the NE to the UE) .

[0032] NE 220 may provide the functionality of a gNB (e.g., a 5G or 6G base station) or perform various other CN functions. NE 220’s functionality may be distributed across multiple entities (e.g., a central unit, CU, a distributed unit, DU, and a radio unit, RU if the NE is the BS) . When NE 220 is the BS, it includes one or more antennas, an RF front end 221 and a transceiver 222 for communicating with UE 210 and other UEs and NEs. NE 220’s antennas and RF front end 221 can be tuned to one or more frequency bands (e.g., subcarriers) , for example as defined by 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) , 5G new radio (NR) , and 6G communication standards and implemented by transceiver 222.

[0033] NE 220 further includes processor (s) 223 and computer-readable storage media (CRSM) 224. Processor (s) 223 can include single or multiple-core processors, and CRSM 224 includes any suitable memory / storage except propagating signals. For example, memory / storage can include random-access memory (RAM) , static RAM (SRAM) , dynamic RAM (DRAM) , non-volatile RAM (NVRAM) , read-only memory (ROM) , and / or flash memory. CRSM 224 stores device data 225, which includes network scheduling data, radio resource management data, applications, and / or an operating system, which are executable by processor (s) 223 to enable wireless communication 201 with UE 210 as well as with other NEs and UEs.

[0034] CRSM 224 also stores a CSI configuration manager 226 and CSI report scheme manager 227. CSI configuration manager 226 causes UE 210 to configure the CSI report based on various factors, which are discussed later. Due to the availability of the CSI report with plural CSIs, a priority ranking and omission scheme are implemented in this embodiment in CSI report scheme manager 227 for addressing plural possible omission scenarios, i.e., at the CSI level, at the CSI report level, a mixture of the two, etc. CSI scheme manager 227 is either preconfigured to implement the priority ranking and the omission scheme, or uses a set of rules, or, based on prior communications with the UE, determines which CSI report omission scheme to implement. In one application, the CSI scheme manager 227 may instruct the UE to use one or more of the available CSI report configurations.

[0035] NE 220 also includes an inter-base station interface 228 and core-network interface 229. Inter-base station interface 228 can be a standardized interface, such as an Xn and / or X2 interface, for exchanging user-plane and control-plane data with another NE (e.g., in case of a handover) . Core-network interface 229 enables NE’s user-plane data and control-plane information exchange with core network functions and / or entities.

[0036] UE 210 may be any user computing device, for example, a smartphone. UE includes antennas connected to an RF front end 211, and a transceiver. The transceiver may be an LTE transceiver 212, a 5G NR transceiver 213, or another transceiver 214. Although FIG. 2 shows three transceivers being present in the UE 210, one skilled in the art would understand that, while at least one transceiver is present, more than one transceiver being present is optional. The antennas and RF front end 211 can be tuned to one or more frequency bands (e.g., subcarriers) , for example, as defined by 3GPP LTE, 5G NR, and 6G communication standards and implemented by respective transceivers. UE 210 also includes one or more precoders 215, one or more processor (s) 216, and computer-readable storage media (CRSM) 217. Processor (s) 216 may be single or multiple-core processors, and CRSM 217 includes any suitable memory / storage other than propagating signals. For example, memory / storage can include RAM, SRAM, DRAM, NVRAM, ROM, and / or flash memory. CRSM 217 stores device data 218 necessary for UE’s communications. The CRSM 217 may also include a CSI configuration manager 219.

[0037] CSI configuration manager 219 is configured to implement the priority ranking and the omission scheme noted above. In this or another embodiment, the CSI configuration manager 219 addresses plural possible omission scenarios, i.e., at the CSI level, at the CSI report level, a hybrid of CSI level and CSI report level, a mixture of these scenarios, etc. CSI configuration manager 219 is either preconfigured to implement the priority ranking and the omission scheme, or uses a set of rules, or, based on prior communications with the NE, determines which CSI report omission scheme to implement.

[0038] The 5G NR supports different types of CSI, including wideband CSI, and subband CSI. Wideband CSI provides information about the overall channel quality across the entire bandwidth, while subband CSI focuses on specific frequency subbands. CQI CSI provides feedback on the expected signal quality. The CSI report may further include various parameters RI, PMI, etc. RI, which may be part of the CSI report, indicates the  number of independent data streams that can be supported by a channel. RI helps the NE determine the appropriate MIMO transmission scheme to use. The PMI indicates the optimal precoding matrix to be used for transmission from the NE to the UE. The PMI helps in beamforming and spatial multiplexing to maximize the signal quality.

[0039] Subband CSI reporting is a feature that allows for more granular monitoring of channel conditions across smaller frequency ranges within the total available bandwidth (i.e., the wideband) . In 5G, the total bandwidth is divided into smaller subbands or frequency chunks. Subband CSI refers to the configuration and reporting of channel information for each of these subbands. Each subband typically covers a specific frequency range. Subband CSI reporting may or may not have a periodicity. Subband CSI reporting can be set to occur at different reporting intervals or periodically. For example, the UE may be configured to provide subband CSI feedback for certain subbands more frequently than others, depending on the network's requirements. The size of each subband, in terms of the number of resource blocks or frequency resources, can vary depending on the total bandwidth size.

[0040] Thus, the transmitting of plural CSI reports with at least one CSI report including multiple CSIs may use a priority ranking that takes into consideration not only the CSI report level, but also the CSI level in each CSI report and also the CSI part 1 and / or CSI part 2 priority level. Further, the transmitting of such reports requires an omission scheme that implements an omission of at least one CSI part 1 portion and / or CSI part 2 portion of a CSI report with multiple CSIs, based on the priority ranking. The priority ranking may rely, in this or another embodiment, on specific settings and parameters that determine how the CSI is measured and reported for subbands within the total bandwidth. The priority ranking may consider one or more of the following: a priority rank for each CSI report, a priority rank for each CSI of a CSI report, and / or a priority rank of each CSI part in a CSI. A combination of these rankings may be used to provide a sequence based on all CSIs of all configured CSI reports, as discussed later with regard to the figures.

[0041] The CSI configuration manager 219 and or the CSI scheme manager 226 discussed above may be configured to implement the omission scheme based on the priority ranking discussed herein. Depending on the existing conditions, one or both of these managers select the priority ranking and omission scheme and instruct the  transceiver of the UE to omit a portion of the CSI part 1 or part 2 that exceeds the maximum payload size for CSI part 1 or part 2, respectively.

[0042] A method 300 for CSI priority ranking and omission for a NE or UE, when at least one CSI report includes multiple CSIs, is discussed with regard to FIG. 3. In some embodiments, the UE may report 302 the UE’s capability indicating one or more supported CSI omission schemes usable when at least one CSI report with multiple CSIs is configured. Note that step 302 is optional as there may be a default UE capability. In one embodiment, the priority ranking may be performed separately from the omission scheme.

[0043] Based on the UE capability, the NE transmits 304 a first control signaling conveying at least a CSI report configuration, for the UE to report at least one CSI report with multiple CSIs, based on multiple CSI-RS resources for channel measurement, a list of CMRs, and / or a list of IMRs. The NE may optionally configure the CSI omission scheme for the at least one CSI report by the first control signaling. Alternatively, the UE may be preconfigured with the CSI omission scheme or the CSI omission scheme may be predefined in a technical specification. The NE may transmit the first control signaling by RRC signaling, e.g., RRCReconfiguration or CSI-ReportConfig.

[0044] In some implementations, for semi-persistent CSI report or aperiodic CSI report, the NE may optionally transmit 306 medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) or downlink control information (DCI) activating or triggering the CSI report. Then the NE may transmit 308 reference signals for the configured CMRs and / or IMRs.

[0045] The UE, after performing measurements based on the reference signals (e.g., CSI-RS and / or CSI-IM) received on the CMRs and / or IMRs, generates at least one CSI report, calculates a priority of the at least one CSI report (and of other configured reports) , as discussed later, and determines the CSI (s) to be omitted, based on the omission scheme, for the multiple CSIs to be reported in CSI part 1 and / or CSI part 2 when the total payload size for the CSIs in CSI part 1 and / or CSI part 2 exceeds the maximum payload size for the CSI part 1 and / or CSI part 2, respectively. The omission scheme used by the UE for determining CSIs to be omitted from CSI part 1 or CSI part 2 may be based on a pre-defined CSI omission rule or a CSI omission scheme configured by the NE or determined by the UE. Either of the pre-defined CSI omission rule and the CSI omission scheme rely on a priority ranking, which ranks each CSI in each CSI report,  and produces a sequence of indexed CSIs (from highest priority to lowest priority) , as discussed later in more detail. Then, the UE may transmit 310 to the NE the remaining portion (s) of the multiple CSIs in CSI part 1 and / or CSI part 2, after a CSI omission process.

[0046] FIG. 4 illustrates the UE behavior for CSI omission when at least one CSI report is configured for multiple CSIs. The UE optionally transmits 402 a UE capability for supporting the CSI omission scheme for at least one CSI report with multiple CSIs. The omission scheme may also include a plurality ranking, so that each CSI of the plural CSI reports is priority ranked and an indexed sequence of all the CSIs is generated. The UE receives 404 a control signal from the NE, which conveys at least a CSI report configuration that is associated with at least one CSI report including multiple CSIs, based on multiple CSI-RS resources for channel measurement and, optionally for CMR, a list of CSI-RS resource for channel measurement, and a list of IMR. The received configuration optionally configures the CSI omission scheme for the CSI report. The UE optionally receives 406 a trigger for generating the at least one CSI report with plural CSIs. The UE then receives 408 reference signals on the CSI-RS resources that are used for generating the plural CSI reports. The UE determines 410 which portion of the indexed sequence of CSIs to be omitted, when a maximum payload size is exceeded for CSI part 1 and / or CSI part 2, and transmits the part of the indexed sequence that fits the size requirements.

[0047] FIG. 5 illustrates the NE behavior for CSI omission for at least one CSI report with multiple CSIs. The NE optionally receives 502 the UE capability indicating the supported CSI omission scheme for the at least one CSI report with multiple CSIs, for one or more UEs. The capability may also include the priority ranking configuration or rule. The NE transmits 504 a control signal for implementing a CSI report configuration for the one or more UEs, to configure each UE of the one or more UEs to report the at least one CSI report with plural CSIs, and plural CSI reference signal, CSI-RS, resources for channel measurement, a list of CMRs, and a list of IMRs. Optionally, the control signaling configures the CSI omission scheme for the CSI report. The NE optionally transmits 506 a MAC CE or DCI signal to the one or more UEs to trigger the at least one CSI report with multiple CSIs and / or the CMRs and / or IMRs for each UE. The NE transmits 508 to the one or more UEs corresponding reference signals on the configured CMRs and / or IMRs. The  NE receives 510 the at least one CSI report from each of the one or more UEs and determines the omitted portion of the CSls in CSI part 1 and / or CSI part 2 based on the configured or pre-defined CSI omission rule. The NE also receives the CSI report (s) for the remaining CSls in CSI part 1 and / or CSI part 2 after CSI omission based on a CSI omission rule and / or configured CSI omission scheme. Optionally, the NE pairs 512 an UE and another UE for MU-MIMO downlink transmission, based on the at least one CSI report and another CSI report received from the UE and the another UE, respectively.

[0048] In one embodiment, each CSI part 2 of the multiple CSIs of the one or more CSI reports is group-based priority ranked when a type 2 codebook is configured, or band-based priority ranked when a type 1 codebook is configured. In this or another embodiment, each CSI of the at least one CSI report has been indexed based on group 0, group 1, and group 2 associated with the type 2 codebook, to form a sequence in which the group 0 has a highest priority and the group 1 and group 2 have a lower priority, or each CSI of the at least one CSI report has been indexed based on wideband CSI, subband CSI for even subbands, and subband CSI for odd subbands associated with the type 1 codebook, to form a sequence in which the wideband CSI has a highest priority and the subband CSI for the even and odd subbands have a lower priority. In one embodiment, all CSI reports with a single CSI are associated with a single group 0 CSI or a single wideband CSI. In this or another embodiment, the omission starts at a given CSI in the sequence that exceeds the payload of the CSI part 2, and all CSIs in the sequence, after the given CSI, are omitted from transmission. In some embodiments, the step of receiving may include, instead of receiving a higher ranked CSI, a lower ranked CSI, when the higher ranked CSI exceeds remaining transmission resources, but the lower ranked CSI fits the remaining transmission resources. In one embodiment, each CSI part 1 of the multiple CSIs of the at least one CSI report is priority ranked for transmission, at the CSI report level and the CSI level, and one or more of the multiple CSIs optionally includes a CSI omission status indicator.

[0049] In one embodiment, the NE may configure a list of CSI report sub-configurations (e.g., CSI-ReportSubConfig) in the CSI report configuration. The NE may configure the list of CSI report sub-configurations in the CSI report configuration with type1 codebook configured. The UE may report one or multiple CSIs in a CSI sub-report, and  the UE may report one or multiple CSI sub-reports in the CSI report, where each CSI sub-report corresponds to each CSI report sub-configuration configured or triggered by the NE. The CSI sub-report may replace the CSI report for the CSI omission in all the embodiments discussed in this document, and the NE and UE may determine a priority of the CSI sub-reports in a CSI report based on the CSI report sub-configuration ID. In one example, the CSI sub-report corresponding to a lower CSI sub-configuration ID has a higher priority than a CSI sub-report corresponding to a higher CSI sub-configuration ID. In another embodiment, the NE may refrain from configuring any CSI report sub-configuration in a CSI report configuration for multiple CSI reports. Thus, the UE may not expect the NE to configure any CSI report sub-configuration in a CSI report configuration for multiple CSI reports.

[0050] In this document, unless specified, an RRC signaling may indicate an RRC reconfiguration message from the NE to UE, or a System Information Block (SIB) , where the SIB can be an existing SIB (e.g., SIB1) or a new SIB (e.g., SIB J, where J may be an integer above 21) transmitted by the NE. In some embodiments, the NE may receive the UE capability from a UE or from the CN (e.g., Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) ) or another NE.

[0051] The various possibilities for structuring the omission scheme and the priority ranking are now discussed and some examples are provided. These examples should not be construed to limit the scope of the invention, but only to provide some specific examples to those skilled in the art. In one embodiment, the omission scheme is based on the priority ranking i.e., after all the CSIs of all the CSI reports are priority ranked, they form an indexed sequence, and the UE transmits a portion of this sequence to the NE and the other part of the sequence is omitted from transmission. Thus, various priority rankings are discussed in conjunction with the various omission schemes.

[0052] In one embodiment, the CSIs are priority ranked at a CSI report level, i.e., each CSI report is ranked relative to the other CSI reports with no consideration of the CSI or CSIs within the CSI reports. For the CSI report level ranking, the NE and UE determine the priority for the CSI report with one CSI or multiple CSIs based on at least one of the following: the time-domain behavior for the CSI report (e.g., aperiodic, semi-persistent, or periodic) , serving cell index, report content, CSI report configuration identifier (ID) , or a  number N of reported CSIs or a maximum number Nmax of reported CSIs. In some embodiments, the number of reported CSIs or maximum number of reported CSIs may be pre-defined, e.g., the same as the number of CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement, or configured by the NE.

[0053] In one embodiment, the NE and UE determine the priority (also called “priority ranking” in this document) for a CSI report as follows. If the priority ranking is based on a CSI sub-report, the same rules and / or scheme may be applied as for the CSI report. The priority for a first CSI report is higher than the priority of a second CSI report if a priority value PriiCSI (y, k, c, s, N) of the second report is lower that the priority value of the first CSI report. The priority value of a given CSI report may be defined as: PriiCSI (y, k, c, s, N) = (2·Ncells·Ms·y+Ncells·Ms·k+Ms·c+s) Nmax+N where,

[0054] y = 0 for aperiodic CSI reports to be carried on PUSCH, y = 1 for semi-persistent CSI reports to be carried on PUSCH, y = 2 for semi-persistent CSI reports to be carried on PUCCH, and y = 3 for periodic CSI reports to be carried on PUCCH;

[0055] k = 0 for CSI reports carrying layer 1 Reference Signal Received Power (L1-RSRP) or layer 1 Signal-to-Interference plus Noise Ratio (L1-SINR) , and k = 1 for CSI reports not carrying L1-RSRP or L1-SINR;

[0056] c is the serving cell index and Ncells is the maximum number of serving cells, e.g., value of the higher layer parameter maxNrofServingCells;

[0057] s is the reportConfigID for CSI report configuration and Ms is the maximum number of CSI report configurations, e.g., value of the higher layer parameter maxNrofCSI-ReportConfigurations; and

[0058] N is the number of CSIs or maximum number of CSIs for the CSI report and Nmax is the maximum number of reported CSIs for a CSI report, e.g., value of the higher layer parameter maxNrofReportedCSIs-ReportConfigurations.

[0059] In another embodiment, the NE and UE may use another rule for calculating the priority value PriiCSI, i.e., each CSI report is associated with a priority value PriiCSI (y, k, c, s, N) = (2·Ncells·Ms·y+Ncells·Ms·k+Ms·c) Nmax+Ms·N+s. In yet another embodiment, the NE and UE may use the traditional rule for the priority value, i.e.,  PriiCSI (y, k, c, s) =2·Ncells·Ms·y+Ncells·Ms·k+Ms·c+s, which is independent of N and Nmax.

[0060] Note that the above first two rules apply to priority ranking the plural CSI reports, in which at least one CSI report has multiple CSIs or multiple CSI sub-reports. These rules rank the CSI reports and / or the CSI sub-reports within a CSI report, even though they depend on the number N and / or Nmax of CSIs within a CSI report or CSI sub-report, and do not rank the CSIs within a CSI report or a CSI sub-report. How to priority rank the CSIs within each CSI report and / or CSI sub-report and across the CSI reports and / or CSI sub-reports is discussed later.

[0061] Based on the above discussed embodiments, one skilled in the art would understand that the NE may configure whether the UE should use the priority rule based on the number N of reported CSIs or maximum number Nmax of reported CSIs for a CSI report and / or CSI sub-report. In some other cases, the UE may report whether the UE supports using the priority rule based on the number N of reported CSIs or maximum number Nmax of reported CSIs for a CSI report and / or CSI sub-report that includes multiple CSIs (in the UE capability) . In another embodiment, the NE may configure the priority ranking for each CSI report and / or CSI sub-report by RRC signaling.

[0062] Next, the priority ranking at the CSI level is discussed. The priority ranking at the CSI report and / or CSI sub-report discussed above and the priority ranking at the CSI level discussed now are part of the omission scheme noted above. The CSI level priority ranking discussed now addresses the plural CSIs within each CSI report that includes multiple CSIs. The same is applicable at the CSI sub-report level. Thus, for simplicity, only the priority ranking for the CSI report is mentioned in the following. However, the same priority ranking may apply for the CSI sub-report.

[0063] According to a first option, the NE priority ranks each CSI for each CSI report with multiple CSIs. In some embodiments, the NE configures the priority for each CSI-RS resource for channel measurement. The NE may configure the priority by RRC signaling, MAC CE, or DCI. Then, when the UE reports the CSIs, the UE determines the priority for each CSI based on the configured priority for the corresponding CSI-RS resource for channel measurement.

[0064] According to a second option, the NE and / or UE may determine the priority for a CSI from the multiple CSIs based on at least one of the following: CSI-RS resource index within the CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement for the corresponding CSI-RS resource for channel measurement; CSI-RS resource identifier (ID) (e.g., nzp-CSI-RS-ResourceId) for the corresponding CSI-RS resource for channel measurement; spectrum efficiency (SE) for the CSI; reported RI for the CSI; or reported CQI for the CSI.

[0065] In some embodiments, the NE and / or UE may determine the priority for a CSI, corresponding to a CSI-RS resource with a lower CSI-RS resource index within the CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement, to be either higher or lower than the priority of another CSI corresponding to a CSI-RS resource with a higher CSI-RS resource index within the CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement.

[0066] In some other embodiments, the NE and / or UE may determine the priority for a CSI, corresponding to a CSI-RS resource with a lower CSI-RS resource ID for channel measurement, to be either higher or lower than the priority of another CSI corresponding to a CSI-RS resource with higher CSI-RS resource ID for channel measurement.

[0067] In yet some other embodiments, the NE and / or UE may determine the priority for a CSI, indicating higher SE, to be either higher or lower than the priority of another CSI indicating lower SE. In one example, the SE is calculated as v×SEcqi, where v indicates the number of layers indicated by the reported RI, and SEcqi indicates the SE indicated by CQI, e.g., wideband CQI or CQI for one or more than one subbands. For CSIs with the same SE, the NE and / or UE may further determine the priority for the CSIs based on the CSI-RS resource index within the CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement or CSI-RS resource ID for the CSI-RS resource for channel measurement.

[0068] In some other embodiments, the NE and / or UE may determine the priority for a CSI, indicating higher RI, to be either higher or lower than the priority of another CSI indicating lower RI. In some implementations, for CSIs indicating the same RI, the NE and / or UE may further determine the priority for the CSIs based on the CSI-RS resource index within the CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement, or CSI-RS resource ID for the CSI-RS resource for channel measurement. In some other implementations, for CSIs  indicating the same RI, the NE and / or UE may further determine the priority for the CSIs based on the CQI for each CSI.

[0069] In some yet other embodiments, the NE and / or UE may determine the priority for a CSI, indicating higher wideband CQI, to be either higher or lower than the priority of another CSI, indicating lower wideband CQI. If multiple wideband CQIs are reported, the NE and / or UE may determine the priority for a CSI based on maximum or minimum or average CQIs or number of reported CQIs. For CSIs indicating the same CQI, the NE and / or UE may further determine the priority for the CSIs based on the CSI-RS resource index within the CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement or CSI-RS resource ID for the CSI-RS resource for channel measurement.

[0070] According to a third option, the UE alone may determine the priority for each CSI and report an indicator indicating the CSI-RS resource (s) for the reported CSI. In one embodiment, the UE may determine the priority for each CSI based on the SE, RI, CQI for the CSI, or beam quality for the CSI-RS resource corresponding to the CSI. In some embodiments, the UE may report the indicator indicating the CSIs with or without a portion of the CSI omitted. The UE may report a common or separate indicator indicating the CSI omission status for CSI part 1 or CSI part 2.

[0071] The NE and / or UE are enabled, based on one or more of these options for the CSI priority and / or CSI report priority (i.e., CSI level and CSI report level) , to generate an indexed sequence of all the CSIs requested by the NE. The indexed sequence may be further modified based on the CSI part 1 or CSI part 2. Such an indexed sequence is then used by the omission scheme to select which CSIs to be omitted from transmission.

[0072] An omission scheme for CSI omission for CSI part 1 is now discussed in this embodiment. According to a first option, the UE and / or NE decides the CSIs to be omitted at a CSI level. More specifically, the NE and / or UE may determine the priority for each CSI from the multiple CSIs, and perform the CSI omission per CSI for CSI part 1. In one application, the NE and / or UE may generate the indexed sequence discussed above for each CSI. Thus, if the total payload size for the CSI report (s) in CSI part 1 exceeds the maximum payload size for the CSI part 1, the UE omits the CSIs in the sequence with lower priority and transmits the remaining CSIs (i.e., higher priority CSIs) to the NE.

[0073] In some embodiments, the CSI priority for CSI part 1 may be known by both the NE and UE. The UE transmits the remaining portion of the CSI part 1 (high priority CSIs) after CSI omission. FIG. 6 illustrates one example for the CSI omission for CSI part 1 at CSI level, without CSI omission status report. The indexed sequence 600 includes all the CSI reports ranked from 1 to 7 (only 7 CSI reports are used in this example, but more or less can be used) at a CSI level. Note that in this particular example, CSI reports 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7 each has a single CSI, CSI report 3 has two CSIs, and CSI report 4 has four CSIs. Other numbers of CSIs per CSI report are possible. The sequence 600 is indexed first relative to the CSI reports, and then, each CSI report having multiple CSIs is further indexed based on the number of CSIs. For this embodiment, the maximum payload size 602 for CSI part 1 is exceed at CSI part 1 for CSI 4 for CSI report 4. The priority axis shows how the priority of each CSI decreases from the top to the bottom (from highest priority to lowest priority) . Thus, according to this embodiment, the UE transmits the CSIs of the portion 610 of the indexed sequence 600 and omits portion 620 of the indexed sequence 600. Note that in this example, CSIs 1 to 3 of the CSI report 4 are transmitted while the CSI 4 of the same report, CSI report 4, is not transmitted. Thus, the omission scheme works at the CSI level in this case. The priority ranking discussed with regard to FIG. 6 equally applies to a CSI sub-report, when one CSI report includes multiple CSI sub-reports and at least one CSI sub-report includes multiple CSIs. For this case, the CSI sub-reports are priority ranked within the one CSI report, and the multiple CSIs are priority ranked within each CSI sub-report.

[0074] Another embodiment is illustrated in FIG. 7, where the UE alone determines the CSI priority and thus, the CSI priority may be unknown by the NE. The UE transmits the remaining portion 710 of the CSI part 1 after CSI omission, including an indicator 730, 732 (e.g., omission status report) indicating to the NE the omitted CSI or reported CSI (s) . The UE does not transmit portion 720 of the indexed sequence 700 to the NE because starting from CSI 4 for CSI report 4, the maximum payload size for the CSI part 1 is exceeded. The priority ranking discussed with regard to FIG. 7 equally applies to a CSI sub-report, when one CSI report includes multiple CSI sub-reports and at least one CSI sub-report includes multiple CSIs.

[0075] According to a second option, the UE and / or NE decides the CSIs to be omitted at a CSI report and / or CSI sub-report level. More specifically, the NE and / or UE may determine the priority for each CSI report and / or CSI sub-report, and performs the CSI omission per CSI report and / or CSI sub-report level for CSI part 1, and not per CSI level as discussed with regard to FIGs. 6 and 7. Thus, in one embodiment, when the total payload size for the CSI report (s) or CSI sub-reports in CSI part 1 exceeds the maximum payload size for the CSI part 1, the UE omits the entire CSI report or the entire CSI sub-report with lower priority and transmits the higher priority CSIs to the NE. Thus, using FIG. 7 as an example, according to this option, the entire CSI report 4 (e.g., CSI 1, CSI 2, CSI 3, and CSI 4 of CSI report 4) is omitted although only CSI 4 of the CSI report 4 exceeds the maximum payload size.

[0076] According to a third option, the NE may configure whether the UE should perform the CSI omission for CSI part 1 at CSI level (i.e., first option above) or at CSI report and / or CSI sub-report level (i.e., second option above) . The NE may transmit to the UE the selected configuration by RRC signaling, MAC CE, or DCI. The UE may report the UE capability indicating whether it supports the CSI omission for CSI part 1 at CSI level or CSI report level or CSI sub-report level, or any combination of these levels. All the examples and embodiments discussed above are valid even if they are modified to replace the term “CSI report” with “CSI sub-report. ” All the examples and embodiments discussed above are also valid even if they are modified to replace the term “CSI report” with “CSI report and CSI sub-report. ” In other words, an indexed sequence discussed above may be indexed based on the CSI report, the CSI sub-report, and the CSIs in each CSI sub-report if the CSI sub-report is configured, or based on the CSI report and the CSIs in each CSI report if a CSI sub-report is not configured.

[0077] The next embodiments discuss the omission scheme for the CSI part 2. The omission scheme for CSI part 2 can be configured to work at a CSI level, at a CSI report level, at a hybrid CSI and CSI report level, and at a configurable level for CSI part 2. According to the first option for CSI part 2, i.e., omission based on CSI level, the NE and / or UE may determine the priority for each CSI of the multiple CSIs, and performs the CSI omission per CSI for CSI part 2. Thus, if the total payload size for the CSI report (s) in CSI part 2 exceeds the maximum payload size for the CSI part 2, the UE omits the portion (s)  of CSIs from a priority group with lower priority and transmits the remaining portion (s) of CSIs (i.e., higher priorities) to the NE. The CSI priorities may be calculated based on the previously discussed priority scheme.

[0078] In some embodiments, for group 0 CSI or wideband CSI, the NE and / or UE may determine the CSI report with single CSI or multiple CSIs in separate priority groups. In some implementations, the NE and / or UE determine group 0 CSI or wideband CSI has higher priority than other CSI portions.

[0079] In some implementations, the NE and / or UE may determine group 0 CSI or wideband CSI for the CSI report (s) with single CSI to be a priority group. The priority is based on the highest or lowest or average priority value for the CSI report (s) within the priority group. Alternatively, the priority for the priority group is either higher or lower than the priority of the CSI report with multiple CSIs. FIG. 8 illustrates one example priority indexed sequence 800 for CSI omission for CSI part 2 for a CSI report (CSI report 3) with multiple CSIs (CSI 1 and CSI 2) with one priority group 812 for group 0 and wideband CSI, for all CSI report (s) with a single CSI. FIG. 8 also shows another priority group 814 for group 0 CSI and wideband CSI, for individual CSI reports with multiple CSIs. The UE transmits the portion 810 of the indexed sequence 800, as this portion does not exceed the maximum payload size for CSI part 2, and omits portion 820. Note that this is a CSI level omission scheme because CSI 1 for CSI report 3 is partially transmitted while CSI 2 for CSI report 3 is not transmitted.

[0080] In some other embodiments, the NE and / or UE may determine group 0 CSI or wideband CSI for the CSI report (s) with single CSI in separate priority groups, and the priority is based on the priority for the CSI report. FIG. 9 illustrates one example priority indexed sequence 900 for CSI omission for CSI part 2 for one or more CSI reports with multiple CSIs. The figure shows separate priority groups 916 and 918 for group 0 and wideband CSI for CSI report (s) with single CSI and multiple CSIs, respectively. The figure also shows the transmitted portion 910 and the omitted portion 920 of the CSIs.

[0081] In yet other embodiments, the NE and / or UE may perform the CSI omission for a same group or CSI for certain subbands first, and for each group or subbands, the NE and / or UE may perform the CSI omission for each CSI according to the priority. FIG. 10 illustrates one example of a priority indexed sequence 1000 for CSI omission for CSI  part 2 for CSI reports with multiple CSIs, with one priority group for group 0 CSI and wideband CSI, for all CSI report (s) with single CSI, and with group / subbands CSI first omission. More specifically, FIG. 10 shows that all group 0 or wideband CSI are priority ranked first, followed by group 1 CSI or subband CSI for even subbands, followed by group 2 CSI or subband CSI for odd subbands. Note that a group x CSI, where x is 0, 1, or 2, for a first CSI report may be different from a group x CSI of a second CSI report. In this example, the omitted portion 1020, includes the group 2 CSI or subband CSI for odd subbands of CSI report 2, and the transmitted portion 1010 includes the group 0 CSI or wideband CSI, for the CSI report 2, and also includes the group 1 CSI or subband CSI for even subbands, for the CSI 1 for the CSI report 2. In other words, CSI parts of a given CSI report are transmitted and other CSI parts of the same given CSI report are omitted.

[0082] According to a second option, the omission scheme omits CSI reports, i.e., works at the CSI report level. In one embodiment, the NE and / or UE may determine the priority for each CSI report, and performs the CSI omission per CSI report for CSI part 2. Thus, if the total payload size for the CSI report (s) in CSI part 2 exceeds the maximum payload size for the CSI part 2, the UE omits the portion (s) of CSI report from a priority group with lower priority and transmits the remaining portion (s) of CSI report to the NE.

[0083] In one embodiment, the NE and / or UE may determine that a group x CSI for a CSI report should include all the group x CSI components for all the reported CSIs, where x = 0, 1, and 2 when the type 2 codebook is configured. The NE and / or UE may determine the group 0 CSI for all CSI reports or a CSI report, group 1 CSI for a CSI report and subband CSI for a CSI report as separate priority groups, and perform the CSI omission in the priority group level. The NE and / or UE may determine the wideband CSI for a CSI report should include the CSI components for wideband CSI for all the reported CSIs when the type 1 codebook is configured. The NE and / or UE may determine the subband CSI for even subbands for a CSI report should include the CSI components for subband CSI for even subbands for all the reported CSIs when type 1 codebook is configured. The NE and / or UE may determine the subband CSI for odd subbands for a CSI report should include the CSI components for subband CSI for odd subbands for all the reported CSIs when type 1 codebook is configured. The NE and / or UE may determine the wideband CSI for all CSI reports or a CSI report, subband CSI for even subbands for a  CSI report and subband CSI for odd subbands for a CSI report as separate priority groups, and perform the CSI omission in the priority group level.

[0084] In some embodiments, the NE and UE may determine the priority for the CSI components grouping per reported CSI. In some other implementations, the NE and UE may determine the priority for the CSI components grouping for all the reported CSIs, which may be additionally based on the CSI priority.

[0085] In one example, the NE and UE may determine group 0, group 1, and group 2 CSI when type 2 codebook is configured as follows, where the variables are defined in 3GPP TS 38.214:

[0086] For Enhanced Type II (or eType2) reports, for a reported CSI for a given CSI report n, each reported element of indices i2, 4, l, i2, 5, l and i1, 7, l, indexed by l, i and f, is associated with a priority value Pri (l, i, f) =2·L·υ·π (f) +υ·i+l, with with l=1, 2, …, υ, i=0, 1, …, 2L-1, and f=0, 1, …, Mv-1, and where is defined in 3GPP TS 38.214. The element with the highest priority has the lowest associated value Pri (l, i, f) . Omission of part 2 CSI (or CSI part 2) is according to the priority order shown in 3GPP TS 38.214, where

[0087] group 0 includes indices i1, 1 (if reported) , i1, 2 (if reported) and i1, 8, l (l=1, …, υ) for all reported CSIs.

[0088] group 1 includes indices i1, 5 (if reported) , i1, 6, l (if reported) , the highest priority elements of i1, 7, l, i2, 3, l, the highest priority elements of i2, 4, l and the highest priority elements of i2, 5, l (l=1, …, υ) for all reported CSIs, where the priority (i.e., the highest priority elements) for each element may be calculated per reported CSI.

[0089] group 2 includes the lowest priority elements of i1, 7, l, the lowest priority elements of i2, 4, l and the lowest priority elements of i2, 5, l (l=1, …, υ) for all reported CSIs.

[0090] For Further Enhanced Type II (or FeType2) Port Selection reports, for a reported CSI for a given CSI report n, each reported element of i2, 4, l, i2, 5, l and i1, 7, l,  indexed by l, i and f, is associated with a priority value Pri (l, i, f) =K1·υ·f+υ·i+l, with l=1, 2, …, v, i=0, 1, …, K1-1 and f=0, …, M-1. The element with the highest priority has the lowest associated value Pri (l, i, f) . Omission of part 2 CSI (or CSI part 2) is according to the priority order shown in 3GPP TS 38.214, where:

[0091] group 0 includes i1, 2 (if reported) , i1, 8, l (l=1, …, υ) and i1, 6 (if reported) for all reported CSIs.

[0092] group 1 includes the highest priority elements of i1, 7, l (if reported) , i2, 3, l, the highest priority elements of i2, 4, l and the highest priority elements of i2, 5, l (l=1, …, υ) for all reported CSIs, where the priority for each element may be calculated per reported CSI.

[0093] group 2 includes the lowest priority elements of i1, 7, l (if reported) , the lowest priority elements of i2, 4, l and the lowest priority elements of i2, 5, l (l=1, …, υ) , for all reported CSIs.

[0094] Note that group 0, group 1, and group 2 noted above are calculated for all reported CSIs.

[0095] According to a third option, the omission scheme is configured to omit, in a hybrid manner, CSI part 2. In one embodiment, the NE and / or UE may determine the priority for each CSI report and each CSI, and perform the CSI omission in a hybrid CSI and CSI report level for CSI part 2. In some embodiments, the NE and / or UE may determine the group 0 CSI and wideband CSI to be in one priority group, and perform the CSI omission for the group 0 CSI and wideband CSI at a CSI report level. The NE and / or UE may perform CSI omission for group 1 CSI and group 2 CSI and subband CSI at a CSI level.

[0096] Thus, if the total payload size for the CSI report (s) in CSI part 2 exceeds the maximum payload size for the CSI part 2, the UE omits the portion (s) of CSI or CSI report from a priority group with lower priority and transmits the remaining portion (s) of the CSI or CSI report to the NE.

[0097] FIG. 11 illustrates one example of a priority indexed sequence 1100 for the CSI omission in hybrid CSI and CSI report level with the transmission of a portion 1110  and the omission of a portion 1120 based on a CSI indexing first, where the various portions of the sequence 1100 are indexed after the CSI report followed by the CSI and then the group CSI or subband CSI. FIG. 12 illustrates one example for the transmission of a portion 1210 and the omission of a portion 1220 in hybrid CSI and CSI report level, based on group CSI or subband CSI indexing first, where the various portions of the sequence 1200 are indexed after the CSI report followed by the group CSI or subband CSI and then by the CSI. In some other embodiments, the CSI priority is determined by the UE and may be unknown by the NE. For these embodiments, the UE transmits the remaining portion of the CSI part 2, after CSI omission, and also transmits an indicator indicating the omitted CSI (s) or reported CSI (s) , similar to the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 7.

[0098] According to a fourth option, the omission scheme is configured to select any of the three options discussed above with regard to CSI part 2 omission. In other words, the NE may configure whether the UE should perform the CSI omission for CSI part 2 at CSI level (i.., first option above) , or at CSI report level (i.e., second option above) , or at hybrid CSI and CSI report level (i.e., third option above) . The NE may transmit the configuration by RRC signaling, MAC CE, or DCI. The UE may report to the NE the UE capability indicating whether it supports at least one of the CSI omission schemes for CSI part 2.

[0099] In another embodiment, which is applicable to both the CSI part 1 and part 2 omissions, which is called enhanced CSI omission scheme, the UE transmits, as shown in FIG. 13, the CSI portion 1310A having the highest priority level and omits the CSI portion 1320A that causes the total payload size for CSI part 1 or CSI part 2 to exceed the maximum payload size for CSI part 1 or CSI part 2, respectively. Then, the UE determines if there is still available space for transmitting one or more other CSIs 1310B, with lower priority, but with smaller payload size, and transmits the one or more other CSIs 1310B. CSIs 1320B having an even lower priority are also omitted. Accordingly, the UE transmits the CSI portion 1310 (including 1310A and 1310B) and omits the CSI portion 1320 (including 1320A and 1320B) based on the enhanced CSI omission scheme.

[0100] In some embodiments, the NE may configure whether the UE should perform the CSI omission based on the enhanced scheme or the omission scheme discussed in the previous embodiments. The NE may provide the UE with the reporting  configuration by RRC signaling, MAC CE, or DCI. In some other implementations, the UE may report whether the UE performs the CSI omission based on the enhanced scheme or another scheme. The UE may report the information by UE capability report, an indicator in CSI part 1 or CSI part 2, another uplink control information, or a MAC CE.

[0101] The concepts presented in this disclosure have wide-ranging applicability across a diverse spectrum of telecommunication systems, network architectures, and communication standards. For instance, consider the 3GPP, a standards organization responsible for defining numerous wireless communication standards, particularly those related to the evolved packet system (EPS) commonly known as LTE networks. Evolved iterations of LTE, like 5G networks, can support a plethora of services and applications, including but not limited to web browsing, video streaming, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) , mission-critical applications, multi-hop networks, real-time remote operations (e.g., tele-surgery) , and more.

[0102] Hence, the teachings presented here can be implemented across various network technologies, including, but not restricted to, 6G, 5G, LTE, and diverse network architectures. Moreover, the techniques described herein can be applied to different types of links, whether it is a downlink, uplink, peer-to-peer link, or any other connection type.

[0103] The selection of the specific telecommunication standard, network architecture, or communication standard hinges on the particular application and the overall system design constraints imposed. While these disclosures may illustrate certain aspects in the context of a 6G, 5G or LTE system for clarity, one skilled in the art would recognize that these teachings are equally adaptable to other technological frameworks, networks, components, signaling methods, and so forth.

[0104] In summary, the adaptability and versatility of the concepts discussed in this disclosure make them suitable for a wide array of telecommunication scenarios, regardless of the specific terminology or technology involved.

[0105] Numerical adjectives “first, ” “second, ” and “third” used in the above embodiments do not imply any order (are not ordinals) but are markers to distinguish separate instances of similar elements. References to the singular (e.g., “a” or “an, ” and “the” ) should include the plural unless clearly indicated otherwise.

[0106] As used herein, a phrase referring to “at least one of” or “one or more of” a list of items refers to any combination of those items, including single members. For example, “at least one of: a, b, or c” is intended to cover the possibilities of: a only, b only, c only, a combination of a and b, a combination of a and c, a combination of b and c, and a combination of a and b and c.

[0107] Although the features and elements of the present embodiments are described in the embodiments in particular combinations, each feature or element can be used alone without the other features and elements of the embodiments or in various combinations with or without other features and elements disclosed herein. The methods or flowcharts may be implemented in a computer program, software or firmware tangibly embodied in a computer-readable storage medium for execution by a specifically programmed computer or processor.
