Description

Adapter for windscreen wiper blades, in particular for motor vehicles, corresponding windscreen wiper blades and wiping systems

[0001] The invention relates to a windshield wiper blade adapter, configured to cooperate with a drive arm, in particular of a vehicle. The invention also relates to a windshield wiper blade assembled to such an adapter, as well as a corresponding wiping system. Technical background

[0002] Generally, a vehicle wiping system comprises a drive arm, rotated by a motorized system to perform an angular reciprocating movement along a glass surface to be wiped.

[0003] The drive arm comprises a yoke at its free end and a hood mounted on the yoke. The yoke and the hood are mounted to slide relative to each other between a position set back from the yoke, called the operating or locked position, and a position set forward from the yoke, called the unlocked position.

[0004] The wiping system further comprises an adapter configured to be mounted on a connector secured to a windshield wiper blade comprising a wiping blade intended to be in contact with the glass surface of the vehicle.

[0005] The adapter makes it possible to provide an articulated connection of the wiper blade to the drive arm. In particular, the adapter is configured to be inserted into the yoke when the yoke and the hood are in an unlocked position, for example when the hood is pulled forward from the yoke by the user wishing to change the wiper blade, and to be retained in the yoke by locking the hood in the locked operating position, for example when the hood is removed rearwardly by the user.

[0006] A shock absorber tip is generally mounted at a front end of the yoke. According to an exemplary embodiment, the shock absorber tip has two grooves in which two front projections of the adapter engage, so as to hold the shock absorber tip longitudinally against the adapter.

[0007] An object of the present invention is to provide an alternative for an adapter allowing simplified assembly of the wiper blade to the drive arm.

[0008] To this end, the invention relates to an adapter for a windscreen wiper blade, configured to cooperate with a drive arm, the drive arm comprising a yoke and a cover mounted to move relative to each other in a translation direction between a first unlocked position and a second locked operating position, the adapter extending longitudinally between a first longitudinal end and a second longitudinal end opposite in the translation direction, and the adapter being configured to be mounted in the yoke in an assembly direction perpendicular to the translation direction.

[0009] The first longitudinal end of the adapter comprises at least one lateral retaining element configured to cooperate with the cover so as to hold the adapter in the yoke, when the cover and the yoke are in the second locked operating position.

[0010] The second longitudinal end of the adapter has at least one opening provided on at least one side wall of the adapter, into which at least one tab of the cover is configured to insert, when the cover and the yoke are in the second locked operating position, such that the tab of the cover is trapped between an edge of the yoke and the adapter.

[0011] Thus, such an adapter makes it easier to assemble the wiper blade to the drive arm, with the yoke / cover assembly in the operating position without having to move the yoke or the cover relative to each other. At the front, each lateral retaining element ensures that the adapter is held in the yoke, and at the rear, the tab(s) of the cover form a return passing under the yoke and being housed in the opening of the adapter, which makes it possible to block movement in the assembly direction.

[0012] The adapter may further include one or more of the following features described below, taken separately or in combination.

[0013] The adapter may have a bridge shape with a top wall connecting two side walls.

[0014] At least one lateral retaining element may be provided in each side wall.

[0015] The retaining member may have a projection configured to fit into a respective lateral notch of the yoke and to abut against a rail of the hood, when the hood and the yoke are in the second locked operating position.

[0016] The rail extends, for example, longitudinally in the direction of translation.

[0017] The opening at the second longitudinal end of the adapter can be through.

[0018] Alternatively, it can be a groove, a groove.

[0019] The opening at the second longitudinal end of the adapter has, for example, a general “L” or “C” shape.

[0020] The opening at the second longitudinal end of the adapter may have at least a first portion and a second portion, inclined relative to each other.

[0021] The second part of the opening can extend longitudinally in the translation direction.

[0022] The first portion of the opening may extend from the top wall of the adapter to a lower end of the side wall. The first portion may extend to allow the hood tab to slide toward the second portion when the adapter is mounted on the wiper arm.

[0023] The retaining element can be chosen from a flexible element, a fixed element, a lug, a flexible strip, a flexible tab, a fixed stud.

[0024] According to one embodiment, the adapter comprises at least one flexible tab configured to allow mounting of the adapter in the yoke according to the assembly direction.

[0025] The tab may have a lug forming the retaining element, the lug being configured to form an insertion ramp in contact with the yoke when mounting the adapter in the yoke and to pivot the tab.

[0026] The lug may have a shape with the projection configured to fit into a respective lateral notch of the yoke.

[0027] The lug may have a retaining face capable of abutting, in the assembly direction, against a rail of the hood once the adapter is mounted in the yoke in the second locked operating position.

[0028] The invention also relates to a windscreen wiper blade for a system for wiping a glass surface of a vehicle, in particular an automobile, the windscreen wiper blade comprising a connector, and an adapter as defined previously.

[0029] The wiper blade comprises, for example, a shock-absorbing end piece arranged at the first longitudinal end of the adapter, intended to be covered by the yoke.

[0030] The shock absorber end piece has, for example, a solid surface opposite the first longitudinal end of the adapter.

[0031] The invention also relates to a system for wiping a glazed surface of a vehicle, in particular a motor vehicle, the wiping system comprising at least one drive arm comprising a yoke and a hood mounted to move relative to each other in a translation direction between a first unlocked position and a second locked operating position. The wiping system comprises a windscreen wiper blade as defined above, the adapter of which attaches the windscreen wiper blade to the drive arm, the drive arm being configured to pivot the windscreen wiper blade.

[0032] The hood can be mounted so as to move in translation on the yoke between the first unlocked position corresponding to a forward position of the hood on the yoke and the second locked operating position corresponding to a backward position of the hood on the yoke.

[0033] The alternative is possible, with the movable yoke relative to the hood.

[0034] The at least one leg of the hood, for example, has a general hook or “L” shape.

[0035] The at least one tab of the cover may have a first branch extending transversely relative to the translation direction and the assembly direction, the first branch being configured to be trapped between an edge of the yoke and the adapter.

[0036] The at least one tab of the cover may have a second branch extending in the assembly direction, configured to be inserted into a respective opening provided on at least one side wall of the adapter, when the cover and the yoke are in the second locked operating position.

Detailed description

[0045] Shows a wiping system 100 comprising a drive arm 200, a wiper blade 300 and an adapter 1 for attaching the wiper blade 300 to the drive arm 200.

[0046] The wiping system 100 may be intended to be used for a glass surface to be wiped, particularly a vehicle, in an automobile.

[0047] The drive arm 200 is configured to be rotated by a motorized system to perform an angular reciprocating movement along the glass surface to be wiped. The drive arm 200 is configured to pivotally drive the wiper blade 300.

[0048] The drive arm 200 can extend longitudinally in a longitudinal direction L.

[0049] The drive arm 200 comprises a yoke 210 and a cover 220.

[0050] The yoke 210 is in particular at its free end of the drive arm 200.

[0051] The yoke 210 of the drive arm 200 is intended to cooperate with the adapter 1 to assemble the drive arm 200 to a connector 301 of the wiper blade 300 in an articulated manner.

[0052] The clevis 210 is intended to be fixed on a rod 230 or branch of the drive arm 200.

[0053] Better visible on the, the yoke 210 has a body extending mainly in a longitudinal direction coincident with the longitudinal direction L of the drive arm 200 when the yoke 210 is fixed on the latter. The body of the yoke 210 may have a “U” shaped cross section. The U shape of the yoke 210 has an upper wall and two side walls 211 extending from parallel edges of the upper wall. The upper wall of the yoke 210 is on the side of the drive arm 200 furthest from the wiper blade when the latter is assembled to the drive arm 200 via the adapter 1.

[0054] At least one lateral notch 212 may be provided in each lateral wall 211 of the U, for example two lateral notches 212 are provided in each wall 211. The lateral notches 212 on one of the lateral walls 211 are for example opposite the lateral notches 212 on the other lateral wall 211. The lateral notches 212 are open on the side of the opening of the U.

[0055] Referring again to the, the yoke 210 and the cover 220 are mounted to move relative to each other in a translation direction A, between a first unlocked position and a second locked operating position.

[0056] The translation direction A is parallel to or coincides with the longitudinal direction L of the drive arm 200 when the yoke 210 and the cover 220 are assembled on the drive arm 200.

[0057] For example, the cover 220 may be mounted to move in translation on the yoke 210. In this case, the first unlocked position corresponds to an advanced position of the cover 220 on the yoke 210. The second locked operating position corresponds to a retracted position of the cover 220 on the yoke 210. In the advanced position, the cover 220 is further forward on the yoke 210 towards the end of the drive arm 200 than in the retracted operating position. In use, when the wiper blade 300 is assembled and locked to the drive arm 200, the cover 220 is in the retracted operating position.

[0058] The cover 220 has a body extending mainly in a longitudinal direction coincident with the longitudinal direction L of the drive arm 200 when the cover 220 is mounted on the latter.

[0059] Best seen in Figures 3A and 3B, the cover 220 may have a “U” shaped cross section. For example, the cover 220 has a top wall, a front wall extending from a front edge of the top wall and two side walls 221 extending from parallel edges of the top wall. The top wall of the cover 220 is on the side of the drive arm 200 furthest from the wiper blade when the latter is assembled to the drive arm 200 via the adapter 1.

[0060] The front edge means the edge of the cover 220 located on the end side of the drive arm 200 in the assembled state on the latter.

[0061] Each side wall 221 of the cover 220 may extend to the rear by a respective wing 222. The rear is understood to be the side of the cover 220 opposite the front edge, and therefore located on the side opposite the end of the drive arm 200 in the assembled state on the latter.

[0062] Each wing 222 may have an end curved towards the inside of the cover 220 to form a tab or hook 223. This makes it possible to define slides for the side walls 211 of the yoke 210 between each side wall 211 of the cover 220 and the associated tab 223. The tab 223 has a general hook or “L” shape with a first branch and a second branch.

[0063] Each side wall 221 of the cover 220 may also be curved at its free end towards the inside of the cover 220, forming at least one rail 224. The rail 224 extends longitudinally in the longitudinal direction of the cover 220 or the translation direction.

[0064] For example, two rails 224 may be aligned in the longitudinal direction of the cover 220 or in the translation direction, at the end of each side wall 221. The rails 224 are separated, for example, in the middle of each side wall 221 of the cover 220. These rails 224 are intended to close the lateral notches 212 of the yoke 210 when the yoke 210 and the cover 220 are in the second locked operating position and to free access to the lateral notches 212 when the yoke 210 and the cover 220 are in the first unlocked position. The rails 224 are offset in front of the accesses of the notches 212 in the first unlocked position, for example when the cover 220 is in the advanced position on the yoke 210.

[0065] Referring again to the, as previously stated, the yoke 210 allows the wiper blade 300 to be assembled to the drive arm 200 via the adapter 1.

[0066] Adapter 1 can be one-piece.

[0067] The adapter 1 has a body extending mainly in a longitudinal direction coincident with the longitudinal direction L of the drive arm 200 when the adapter 1 is assembled to the yoke 210 fixed on the drive arm 200.

[0068] The adapter 1 extends longitudinally in a direction coincident with the longitudinal direction of the drive arm 200 when the adapter 1 is assembled to the yoke 210 and fixed to the latter or coincident with the translation direction A.

[0069] The adapter 1 is intended to be mounted in the yoke (or dismantled) in an assembly direction B perpendicular to the translation direction A.

[0070] To connect the adapter 1 to the wiper blade 300, the adapter 1 is mounted on the connector 301 of the wiper blade 300 to which it is retained for example by snap-fastening, in particular by means of complementary pivot elements of the adapter 1 and the connector 301, such as an axis, a cylindrical stud, an orifice. The connector 301 is an element of the wiper blade 300 surmounting a wiping blade 302 of the wiper blade 300, for example in its middle. In a non-limiting manner, the pivot elements are for example of the male and female type, to form a pivot connection. The connection between the adapter 1 and the connector 301 is not described in more detail.

[0071] Better visible on the, the adapter 1 has a first longitudinal end 1a and a second longitudinal end 1b opposite in the translation direction A.

[0072] The adapter 1 may have a “U” shaped cross section. The adapter 1 has for example a bridge shape of a shape substantially complementary to an internal housing defined by the yoke. The bridge-shaped adapter 1 has an upper wall 2 connecting two side walls or two flanks 3 extending from parallel edges of the upper wall 2. The upper wall 2 of the adapter 1 is on the side of the drive arm furthest from the wiper blade when the latter is assembled to the drive arm 200 via the adapter 1.

[0073] For example, the adapter 1 may further comprise at least one flexible tab 6 configured to allow the adapter 1 to be mounted in the yoke 210 (also referring to the) along the assembly direction B, when the cover and the yoke are in the second locked operating position.

[0074] The adapter 1 may comprise a tab 6 formed in each flank 3. According to an exemplary embodiment, the locking tabs 6 have flat flaps connected to the body of the adapter 1 by a respective hinge extending in the assembly direction B so as to allow the flap of the tab 6 to pivot in associated openings of the flanks 3 of the adapter 1.

[0075] The first longitudinal end 1a of the adapter 1 comprises at least one lateral retaining element which can be provided on one or each side 3 of the adapter 1. The lateral retaining element is intended to cooperate with the cover so as to hold the adapter 1 in the yoke 210, when the cover and the yoke are in the second locked operating position.

[0076] The retaining element can be chosen from a flexible element, a fixed element, a lug, a flexible strip, a flexible tab, a fixed stud.

[0077] The retaining element has a projection intended to be inserted into a respective lateral notch 212 of the yoke 210 and to come into abutment against a rail 224 of the cover 220, when the cover 220 and the yoke 210 are in the second locked operating position.

[0078] According to a particular embodiment, each tab 6 has a retaining lug 8 projecting from a flap of the tab 6. The retaining lug 8 forms an example of a lateral retaining element.

[0079] The retaining lug 8 forms, for example, an insertion ramp 81 in contact with the yoke 210 when the adapter 1 is mounted in the yoke 210 in the assembly direction B. The ramp shape of the retaining lug 8 allows the tab 6 to be progressively pivoted by the yoke 210 towards the inside of the adapter 1 when the adapter 1 is mounted in the yoke 210.

[0080] The retaining lug 8 also has a retaining face 82 capable of coming into abutment, in the assembly direction B, against a rail 224 of the cover 220 once the adapter 1 is mounted in the yoke 210. The retaining face is for example flat. The retaining face makes it possible to prevent the adapter 1 from coming out once it is mounted in the yoke 210.

[0081] During assembly, with reference to figures 2 to 4, the flexible locking tabs 6 retract to fit into the lateral notches 212 of the yoke 210 in the assembly direction B, bypassing the rails 224 of the cover 220 in the operating position without it being necessary to free access to the lateral notches 212. The retaining lug 8 may have a chamfer, in particular with a progressive contour, to facilitate the retraction of the tab 6 during assembly of the adapter 1 with the yoke 210. Once assembled, each tab 6 is trapped in a respective notch 212 of the yoke 210 under the cover 220.

[0082] The first end 1a of the adapter 1 may further comprise at least one locking stud 11. According to an exemplary embodiment, each flank 3 carries, at this first end 1a, at least one locking stud 11 projecting in a transverse direction relative to the translation direction A and the assembly direction B.

[0083] The locking stud 11 is configured to come into abutment, in the assembly direction B, against an edge, in particular a longitudinal edge, of the yoke 210. The locking stud 11 can also come into abutment, in the translation direction A, against a rail 224 of the cover 220, when the cover 220 and the yoke 210 are in the second locked operating position.

[0084] The locking stud 11 has, for example, the shape of a parallelepiped block. It is, for example, located in the lower part of the adapter 1, that is to say on the side of the adapter closest to the wiper blade assembled to the adapter 1. The locking stud 11 may be located in a corner of a tab 6.

[0085] A shock-absorbing end piece 13, also called head 13, made of elastic material, for example rubber, can be arranged under the yoke 210, at the first longitudinal end 1a of the adapter 1. It is therefore covered by the yoke 210 ().

[0086] The shock absorber tip 13 may have a cap shape.

[0087] This shock-absorbing end piece 13 has, for example, a solid surface opposite the first longitudinal end 1a of the adapter 1, i.e. the front end of the adapter.

[0088] The shock-absorbing end piece 13 is further retained under the yoke 210, for example by shape cooperation. For this purpose, the shock-absorbing end piece 13 may have a hollow 131 on one or each lateral surface in which a lateral tab 213 engages at the front end of the yoke 210.

[0089] Furthermore, at the second longitudinal end 1b of the adapter 1, the upper wall 2 is configured to abut against the cover 220 of the drive arm 200, in particular against the rear end, i.e. on the side opposite the end of the drive arm 200, when the yoke 210 and the cover 220 are in the unlocked position, in order to prevent the adapter 1 from being mounted in the yoke 210 in the assembly direction B. More precisely, the upper wall 2 of the adapter 1 at the second longitudinal end 1b may abut against the tabs 223 of the cover 220 defining the slides, the upper wall 2 being wider (in the direction transverse to the translation directions A and assembly directions B) than the spacing between the tabs 223 to prevent the adapter 1 from passing if it is pushed against the yoke 210 in assembly direction B.

[0090] The upper wall 2 of the adapter 1 at the second longitudinal end 1b can be inserted into the yoke 210, when the yoke 210 and the cover 220 are in the locked operating position.

[0091] In addition, the second longitudinal end 1b of the adapter 1 has at least one opening 14 provided on one or each side 3 of the adapter 1. It may be a through opening 14 as illustrated in the. Alternatively, it may be a groove, a throat.

[0092] Referring also to the, at least one tab 223 of the cover 220 can be inserted into a respective opening 14, when the cover 220 and the yoke 210 are in the second locked operating position. The tab 223 is then trapped between an edge of the yoke 210 and the adapter 1.

[0093] The tab 223 of the cover 220 forms a return which passes under the yoke 210 and is housed in the opening 14 of the adapter 1, which makes it possible to block the (vertical) movement in the assembly direction B.

[0094] As stated previously, the or each tab 223 comprises for example a first branch and a second branch. The first branch of the tab 223 extends transversely relative to the translation direction A and to the assembly direction B. This first branch is intended to be trapped between an edge of the yoke 210 and the adapter 1. The second branch may be perpendicular to the first branch. This second branch extends in the assembly direction B. It is configured to be inserted into the respective opening 14, when the cover 220 and the yoke 210 are in the second locked operating position.

[0095] Opening 14 has a general “L” or “C” shape.

[0096] The opening may have at least a first portion 141 and a second portion 142, inclined relative to each other. The first portion 141 may extend from the upper wall 2 of the adapter 1 towards a lower end of the sidewall 3. The first portion 141 may extend substantially parallel to the assembly direction B or with a slight inclination, so as to allow the tab 223 of the cover 220 to slide downwards when the adapter 1 is mounted on the wiper arm. The second portion extends for example longitudinally in the translation direction A.

[0097] The adapter 1 may further comprise a keying device 12 configured to be inserted into an opening provided in the upper wall of the yoke 210. The keying device 12 prevents the adapter 1 from being mounted upside down. Thus, the user is assured of the correct orientation of the adapter 1 for its insertion into the yoke 210.

[0098] Thus, when a user wishes to assemble a windshield wiper blade 300 to the drive arm 200 by means of the adapter 1, he mounts the adapter 1 in the yoke 210 of the drive arm 200 in the assembly direction B perpendicular to the translation direction A, when the yoke / cover assembly is in the operating position, for example when the cover 220 is in the rearward position relative to the yoke 210.

[0099] If the yoke / cover assembly is in the unlocked position, for example when the cover 220 is in the advanced position relative to the yoke 210, the upper wall 2 of the adapter 1 at the second longitudinal end 1b comes into abutment against the tabs 223 of the cover 220 defining the slides for the side walls 211 of the yoke 210, which prevents the adapter 1 from being mounted in the yoke 210 in the assembly direction B.

[0100] On the other hand, if the yoke / cover assembly is in the operating position, for example when the cover 220 is in the retracted position, the tabs 223 of the cover 220 defining the slides are moved to the rear of the yoke 210 so that the upper wall 2 of the adapter 1 at the level of the second longitudinal end 1b can be inserted into the yoke 210 in the assembly direction B, between the side walls 211 of the yoke 210.

[0101] The legs 223, in particular their second branches, slide in the respective openings 14 until they are housed at the end of the second parts 142 of the openings at the rear of the adapter 1. The first branches of the legs 223 of the cover 220 are sandwiched between the yoke 210 and the adapter 1.

[0102] The flexible locking tabs 6 at the front of the adapter 1 can retract to fit into the lateral notches 212 of the yoke 210, bypassing the rails 224 of the cover 220 without it being necessary to free access to the lateral notches 212. The retaining lugs 8 facilitate the progressive pivoting of the tabs 6 by the yoke 210 towards the inside of the adapter 1.

[0103] The front of the adapter 1 is located on the end side of the drive arm 200 in the assembled state to the yoke 210 of the latter. The rear of the adapter 1 is on the opposite side.

[0104] Once mounted, each tab 6 is trapped in a respective notch 212 of the yoke 210 under the cover 220. The retaining face of the lugs 8 prevents the adapter 1 from coming out.

[0105] The locking studs 11 can come into abutment against the rails 224 of the cover 220.

[0106] The key 12 prevents the adapter 1 from being mounted upside down.

[0107] It is understood that the assembly of the brush 300 to the drive arm 200 is made easier for the user because it can be carried out in “direct assembly”, without touching the position of the cover 220 which is the operating position.

[0108] To disassemble the wiper 300 from the drive arm 200, the user can move the yoke / cover assembly into the unlocked position, for example placing the cover 220 in an advanced position relative to the yoke 210, so that the rails 224 free the accesses to the lateral notches 212, allowing the release of the adapter 1 and therefore of the wiper 300 in a disassembly direction, opposite to the assembly direction in the assembly direction B.
