Description

COMPOSITION FOR MAKING UP KERATIN MATERIALSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present invention relates to a composition. Preferably, the present invention relates to a composition for making up keratin materials. The present invention also relates to a process for making up keratin materials.BACKGROUND ART

[0002] The skin is not a smooth surface of uniform color, and has reliefs or at least micro-reliefs such as pores, wrinkles, fine lines, spots, scars and dry areas, which form a somewhat bumpy surface. Further, the complexion is not always satisfactory, e.g., a dull appearance.

[0003] Cosmetic compositions, for example foundations, are commonly used to give the skin an esthetic color, and also to enhance the beauty of irregular skin, by making it possible to hide marks and dyschromia, to reduce the visibility of relief imperfections, such as pores and wrinkles, and to conceal spots and acne marks.

[0004] With the development of color cosmetic and high-quality demands of consumers, functions, including long wearing makeup and freshness effects, become more and more important. However, for the current cosmetic products, there are challenges to achieve both a long wearing makeup effect and a desirable freshness effect in one stable formulation. In other words, it is difficult to obtain a stable formulation which can achieve both a long wearing makeup effect and a desirable freshness effect.

[0005] Therefore, there is a need for a composition, which can provide a long wearing makeup effect and a desirable freshness effect while being stable over a long period of time and a wide temperature range for storage and use.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] The inventors have found that such a need can be achieved by the composition according to the present invention.

[0007] According to a first aspect, the present invention provides a composition, preferably for making up keratin materials, comprising:

[0008] (a) at least 5 wt. %of at least one MQ resin, relative to the total weight of the composition;

[0009] (b) at least one organic lipophilic gelling agent; and

[0010] (c) at least 25 wt. %of at least one aqueous solvent, relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0011] The composition according to the present invention can provide both a long wearing makeup effect and a desirable freshness effect, and is stable over a long period of time and a wide temperature range for storage and use.

[0012] According to a second aspect, the present invention provides a process for making up keratin materials, preferably the skin, comprising:

[0013] applying the composition according to the first aspect onto the keratin materials.

[0071] They are generally synthesized via a sol-gel process in a liquid medium and then dried, usually by extraction of a supercritical fluid, the one most commonly used being supercritical CO2. This type of drying makes it possible to avoid shrinkage of the pores and of the material. The sol-gel process and the various drying operations are described in detail in Brinker C.J. and Scherer G.W., Sol-Gel Science: New York: Academic Press, 1990.

[0072] The aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica used in the present invention exhibit a specific surface per unit of weight (SW) ranging from 500 to 1500 m2 / g, preferably from 600 to 1200 m2 / g and more preferably from 600 to 800 m2 / g, and a size, expressed as volume-average diameter (D [0.5] , also known as median particle size by volume Dv50) , ranging from 1 to 1500μm, preferably from 1 to 1000μm, more preferably from 1 to 100 μm, more preferably from 1 to 30μm, still more preferably from 5 to 25μm, even more preferably from 5 to 20μm and most preferably from 5 to 15μm.

[0073] In one instance, the aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica used in the present invention exhibit a size, expressed as volume-average diameter (D [0.5] , also known as median particle size by volume Dv50) , ranging from 1 to 30μm, preferably from 5 to 25 μm, more preferably from 5 to 20μm and even more preferably from 5 to 15μm.

[0074] The specific surface per unit of weight can be determined by the nitrogen absorption method, known as the BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) method, described in The Journal of the American Chemical Society, Vol. 60, page 309, February 1938, and corresponding to  the international standard ISO 5794 / 1 (appendix D) . The BET specific surface corresponds to the total specific surface of the particles under consideration. The sizes of the aerogel silica particles can be measured by static light scattering using a commercial particle size analyser of MasterSizer 2000 type from Malvern. The data are processed on the basis of the Mie scattering theory. This theory, which is exact for isotropic particles, makes it possible to determine, in the case of non-spherical particles, an "effective" particle diameter. This theory is described in particular in the publication by Van de Hulst, H.C., "Light Scattering by Small Particles" , Chapters 9 and 10, Wiley, New York, 1957.

[0075] Preferably, the aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica used in the present invention exhibit a specific surface per unit of weight (SW) ranging from 600 to 800 m2 / g and a size, expressed as volume-average diameter (D [0.5] , also known as median particle size by volume Dv50) , ranging from 5 to 20μm and preferably from 5 to 15μm.

[0076] The aerogel silica particles used in the present invention can advantageously exhibit a packed density (ρ) ranging from 0.04 g / cm3 to 0.10 g / cm3 and preferably from 0.05 g / cm3 to 0.08 g / cm3.

[0077] In the context of the present invention, this density, known as the packed density, can be assessed according to the following protocol:

[0078] 40 g of powder are poured into a graduated measuring cylinder; the measuring cylinder is then placed on the Stav 2003 device from StampfVolumeter; the measuring cylinder is subsequently subjected to a series of 2500 packing actions (this operation is repeated until the difference in volume between two consecutive tests is less than 2%) ; the final volume Vf of packed powder is then measured directly on the measuring cylinder. The packed density is determined by the ratio w / Vf, in the case in point 40 / Vf (Vfbeing expressed in cm3 and w in g) .

[0079] In one instance, the aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica used in the present invention exhibit a specific surface per unit of volume SV ranging from 5 to 60 m2 / cm3, preferably from 10 to 50 m2 / cm3 and more preferably from 15 to 40 m2 / cm3.

[0080] The specific surface per unit of volume is given by the relationship: SV = SW x ρ where ρ is the packed density, expressed in g / cm3, and SW is the specific surface per unit of weight, expressed in m2 / g, as defined above.

[0081] Preferably, the aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica according to the invention have an oil absorption capacity, measured at the wet point, ranging from 5 to 18 ml / g, preferably from 6 to 15 ml / g and more preferably from 8 to 12 ml / g.

[0082] The absorption capacity measured at the wet point, denoted Wp, corresponds to the amount of oil which it is necessary to add to 100 g of particles in order to obtain a homogeneous paste.

[0083] It is measured according to the "wet point" method or method for determining the oil uptake of a powder described in Standard NF T 30-022. It corresponds to the amount of oil adsorbed onto the available surface of the powder and / or absorbed by the powder by measurement of the wet point, described below:

[0084] An amount w=2 g of powder is placed on a glass plate, and the oil (isononyl isononanoate) is then added dropwise. After addition of 4 to 5 drops of oil to the powder, mixing is carried out using a spatula, and addition of oil is continued until conglomerates of oil and powder have formed. From this point, the oil is added at the rate of one drop at a time and the mixture is subsequently triturated with the spatula. The addition of oil is stopped when a firm and smooth paste is obtained. This paste must be able to be spread on the glass plate without cracking or forming lumps. The weight (expressed in g) of oil used is then noted.

[0085] The oil uptake corresponds to the ratio g / g.

[0086] The aerogels used according to the present invention are hydrophobic silica aerogels, preferably of silylated silica (INCI name: silica silylate) .

[0087] The term "hydrophobic silica" is understood to mean any silica whose surface is treated with silylating agents, for example with halogenated silanes, such as alkylchlorosilanes, siloxanes, in particular dimethylsiloxanes, such as hexamethyldisiloxane, or silazanes, so as to functionalize the OH with silyl Si-Rn, for example trimethylsilyl.

[0088] As regards the preparation of aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica modified at the surface by silylation, reference may be made to the document US 7 470 725.

[0089] Preferably, the hydrophobic silica used in the composition of the invention is aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica modified at the surface with trimethylsilyl (trimethylsiloxylated silica) .

[0090] Mention may be made, as hydrophobic silica aerogels which can be used in the invention, for example, of the aerogel sold under the name VM-2260 (INCI name: silica silylate) by Dow Corning, the particles of which exhibit an average size of approximately 1000μm and a specific surface per unit of weight ranging from 600 to 800 m2 / g.

[0091] Mention may also be made of the aerogels sold by Cabot under the references Aerogel TLD 201, Aerogel OGD 201 and Aerogel TLD 203.

[0092] More preferably, the hydrophobic silica used in the composition of the present invention is the aerogel sold under the name VM-2270 (INCI name: silica silylate) by Dow Corning, the particles of which exhibit an average size ranging from 5 to 15μm and a specific surface per unit of weight ranging from 600 to 800 m2 / g.

[0093] According to the present invention, the hydrophobic silica is preferably selected from aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica exhibiting a specific surface per unit of weight (SW) ranging from 500 to 1500 m2 / g and a volume-average diameter (D [0.5] ) ranging from 1 to 1500μm, is more preferably selected from aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica exhibiting a specific surface per unit of weight (SW) ranging from 600 to 800 m2 / g and a volume-average diameter (D [0.5] ) ranging from 1 to 30μm, preferably from 5 to 25 μm, more preferably 5 to 15μm, and is even more preferably silica silylate.

[0094] Advantageously, the hydrophobic silica is present in an amount ranging from 0.01 wt. %to 5 wt. %, preferably from 0.1 wt. %to 2 wt. %, and more preferably from 0.2 wt. %to 1 wt. %, relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0095] Pigment coated with isopropyl titanium triisostearate

[0096] The composition according to the present invention may comprise at least one pigment coated with isopropyl titanium triisostearate.

[0097] According to the present invention, two or more pigments coated with isopropyl titanium triisostearate may be used in combination. Thus, a single type of pigment coated with isopropyl titanium triisostearate or a combination of different types of pigments coated with isopropyl titanium triisostearate may be used.

[0098] The term “pigments” means white or colored, mineral or organic particles, which are insoluble in an aqueous medium, and which are intended to color and / or opacify the resulting composition.

[0099] Preferably, the pigments used in the present invention are chosen from mineral pigments.

[0100] The term “mineral pigment” means any inorganic pigment. Preferably, the mineral pigments that are useful in the present invention are selected from metal oxides, such as zirconium oxides or cerium oxides, titanium oxides and also zinc oxides, iron oxides (black, yellow or red) or chromium oxides, as well as manganese violet, ultramarine blue, chromium hydrate and ferric blue, and metal powders, for instance aluminum powders or copper powders, or any combinations thereof. The following mineral pigments may also be used: Ta2O5, Ti3O5, Ti2O3, TiO2, ZrO2 as a mixture with TiO2, ZrO2, Nb2O5, CeO2, or ZnS.  In the context of the present invention, the mineral pigments are more preferably iron oxides and / or titanium dioxide.

[0101] The mean particle size of the coated pigment is in general 100 nm or more. The mean particle size of the coated pigment according to the present invention may range from 100 nm to 25μm, preferably from 200 nm to 10μm. For the purpose of the present invention, the D50 size, or volume average size, corresponds to the particle size defined such that 50%by volume of the particles have a size greater than D50. The volume average size may be assessed by light diffraction using a Malvern MasterSizer laser particle size analyzer, said particles to be evaluated being dispersed in a liquid medium, for instance octyldodecyl neopentanoate.

[0102] The pigments may also be nacres and / or particles with metallic glints. The term “nacres” should be understood as meaning iridescent or non-iridescent colored particles of any shape, especially produced by certain molluscs in their shell or alternatively synthesized, which have a color effect via optical interference.

[0103] The nacres may be chosen from nacreous pigments such as titanium mica coated with an iron oxide, titanium mica coated with a bismuth oxychloride, titanium mica coated with a chromium oxide, titanium mica coated with an organic dye and also nacreous pigments based on bismuth oxychloride. They may also be mica particles, at the surface of which are superposed at least two successive layers of metal oxides and / or of organic dyestuffs.

[0104] The pigments in the present invention are coated with isopropyl titanium triisostearate, i.e., the surface of the pigments is treated with isopropyl titanium triisostearate.

[0105] The surface-treated pigments may be prepared according to surface treatment techniques of chemical, electronic, mechanochemical or mechanical nature that are well known to those skilled in the art. Commercial products may also be used. The surface agent of isopropyl titanium triisostearate may be absorbed, adsorbed or grafted onto the surface of the pigments by evaporation of solvent, chemical reaction and creation of a covalent bond.

[0106] The coating may represent from 0.1%to 20%by weight and in particular from 0.5%to 5%by weight relative to the total weight of the coated pigment.

[0107] The surface treatment with isopropyl titanium triisostearate gives the pigments a hydrophobic character. Therefore, the pigment coated with isopropyl titanium triisostearate of the present invention exhibits a hydrophobic and lipophilic nature. Accordingly, the  pigment coated with isopropyl titanium triisostearate can be dispersed and included in the oily phase of the composition according to the present invention.

[0224] 1) . For each composition of Inventive Example 1 and Comparative Examples 1-2, atransparent plastic plate with a thickness of 75μm was attached on bottom of a 2 kg weight;

[0225] 2) . For each composition of Inventive Example 1 and Comparative Examples 1-2, afoundation film with a thickness of 150μm was prepared using BYK (Byko Drive XL) and a mould (Elcometer, 3540) on a contrast card (Erichsen, Type 24 / 5) , and was rested at 32℃for 0.5 hour and then weighted to obtain the Mw (0) , the 2 kg weight with the plastic plate was disposed on the foundation film and rested for 10 seconds, during which the plastic plate directly contacted the foundation film; the contrast card with non-transferred composition was weighed to obtain Mw (0.5 h) ;

[0226] 3) . Weight Loss (0.5 h) was obtained via the equation: Weight Loss (0.5 h) =Mw (0) -Mw (0.5 h) .

[0227] a') Weight Loss (6 h)

[0228] 1') . For each composition of Inventive Example 1 and Comparative Examples 1-2, a transparent plastic plate with a thickness of 75μm was attached on bottom of a 2 kg weight;

[0229] 2') . For each composition of Inventive Example 1 and Comparative Examples 1-2, a foundation film with a thickness of 150μm was prepared using BYK (Byko Drive XL) and a mould (Elcometer, 3540) on a contrast card (Erichsen, Type 24 / 5) , and was rested at 32℃for 6h hour and then weighted to obtain the Mw (0) , the 2 kg weight with the plastic plate was disposed on the foundation film and rested for 10 seconds, during which the plastic plate directly contacted the foundation film; the contrast card with non-transferred composition was weighed to obtain Mw (6 h) ;

[0230] 3') . Weight Loss (6 h) was obtained via the equation: Weight Loss (6 h) =Mw (0) -Mw (6 h) .

[0231] The wearing makeup effect was evaluated by the weight loss of the foundation film after being placed for half an hour and six hours respectively. The less weight loss of the foundation composition, the better of the wearing makeup effect, and vice versa. When the weight loss (0.5 h) ≤0.1g or weight loss (6 h) ≤0.05g, the composition is deemed as one with long wear makeup effect.

[0235] Five panelists were invited to evaluate the freshness effect. Specifically, each panelist applied the composition of Inventive Example 1 on face with the same and daily amount, and then gave scores (1 to 5) . The higher of the score, the better of the freshness effect, and vice versa. For the composition of Inventive Example 1, the final score was averaged and ranked according to the following criteria:

[0236] Freshness:

[0237] 4≤Scores≤5: watery fresh;

[0238] 3≤Scores<4: little fresh;

[0239] 2≤Scores<3: little oily;

[0240] 1≤Scores<2: oily.

[0241] The freshness score of the composition of Inventive Example 1 is 4.0.

[0242] It can be seen that only the composition of Inventive Example 1, comprising an amount of 5 wt. %or more of an MQ resin, an organic lipophilic gelling agent and at least 25 wt. %of at least one aqueous solvent, relative to the total weight of the composition, can obtain a long wearing makeup effect and a desirable freshness effect, and is stable over a long period of time, e.g., two weeks, and a wide temperature range, e.g., room temperature and 45℃.

[0243] In this way, the composition according to the present invention can simultaneously provide a long wearing makeup effect and a desirable freshness effect and is stable over a long period of time and a wide temperature range for storage and use.
