NEONATAL BED COVERCROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0001] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 63 / 617.790. filed January 5, 2024, and titled '‘NEONATAL BED COVER,” which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety7, for any purpose.
[0002] This application also claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 63 / 676,106, filed July 26, 2024, and titled “NEONATAL BED COVER,” which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety, for any purpose.TECHNICAL FIELD
[0003] The technology7described herein relates to neonatal bed covers and methods of using the same.BACKGROUND
[0004] Premature and health-compromised newborn babies or infants are placed in special neonatal beds to protect these patients and / or simulate the perfect in-utero environment. Currently, loose covers are often placed over the neonatal bed to limit toxic environmental stimulation or exposure to a premature or health-compromised baby. For example, excessive environmental stimulation and / or exposure to a premature or health-compromised baby may exaggerate symptoms or promote otherwise undesired problems that can result in life long problems. To access the baby to perform X-ray studies, ultrasounds, or other procedures, the current covers are often removed entirely from the neonatal bed, exposing the baby to damaging environmental stimulation. Some covers may also completely cover the neonatal bed, limiting sight access (e.g., of the neonatal nursing staff) to the patient. Although discussed t pically with respect to sick newborn infants in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), neonatal beds can also be used in other environments, such as on neonatal transports outside hospitals. This would involve a transport vehicle, such as an ambulance, a helicopter, or a fixed wing plane, all of which are associated with even greater toxic environmental stimuli such as coarse vibration, as well as exposure to sudden changes in ambient temperature and light from the outside change in environment. As such, there is a need for a neonatal bed cover that addresses the above deficiencies and / or otherwise provides an alternative to existing offerings.SUMMARY

[0046] Embodiments of the disclosure and their advantages are best understood by referring to the detailed description that follows. It should be appreciated that like reference numerals may be used to identity like elements illustrated in one or more of the figures.DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0047] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a neonatal bed cover that limits environmental stimulation and / or exposure while also providing sight access to a baby and / or quick access for emergency. The neonatal bed cover may be configured to reduce light, sound, and vibration, among other environmental characteristics. For example, the neonatal bed cover may insulate the neonatal bed and be made of a soft or quiet material (e.g., a softshell material) to reduce noise. The neonatal bed cover may be fitted to the neonatal bed for a tight or snug fit. The neonatal bed cover may include one or more repositionable features that enable selective access to an interior of the neonatal bed, such as various flaps that can be opened to access port holes or doors of the neonatal bed, when needed (e.g., to take vitals or otherwise attend to the baby). The neonatal bed cover may also permit an X-ray machine to take radiographic images through the top of the neonatal bed (e.g., via a top flap) while still limiting environmental stimuli to the baby.
[0048] In some instances, hospital personnel (e.g., nurses and doctors) have utilized blankets or quilts to help insulate neonatal beds during use. However, such unspecialized coverings are not adequate at attenuating noise and also do not adequately retain heat. Further, these are prone to slippage and other movement that can be detrimental to the incubation process. Similarly, many of these traditional covers must be removed to access the interior of the neonatal bedand / or to conduct certain medical examinations or tests (e.g., X-rays), where the removal and reapplication can be disruptive to the infant, as well as allow many loses of heat and introduction of noise into the incubation environment.
[0049] Embodiments of the present disclosure mitigate these issues, and may allow the retention of heat, reduction of noise, while still enabling desired or required access to the infant as required for testing or the like. For example, the neonatal bed cover disclosed herein may act to reduce light transmission into the incubation environment, as well as dampen vibration and noise from being transmitted and is modular to allow selectively removal or repositioning of certain portions to create pathways for access to the interior of the neonatal bed without requiring the entire cover to be repositioned or removed. The insulation and fit of the neonatal bed cover may reduce sounds by 25 decibels, which is significant and provides a more developmentally correct and healthy environment for the infant. This type of care in turn can improve the infant’s long term neurologic outcome. Although the neonatal bed cover is discussed with respect to babies or infants, the neonatal bed cover can be used in a variety of environments where light mitigation, noise dampening, and / or temperature modulation is important.
[0050] FIGS. 1-2 are isometric views of a neonatal bed cover 100 (i.e., hereinafter “cover” for sake of convenience without intent to limit). As shown, the cover 100 includes a plurality of panels 1 4. As one example, the cover 100 may include a first panel 104 A. a second panel 104B, a third panel 104C, and a fourth panel 104D, or any combination thereof. The second, third, and fourth panels 104B, 104C, 104D may be coupled to the first panel 104 A. In embodiments, the first panel 104A includes a first edge 108 A. a second edge 108B, and a third edge 108C, among other configurations. The second panel 104B may be coupled to the first edge 108 A. The third panel 104C may be coupled to the second edge 108B. The fourth panel 104D may be coupled to the third edge 108C. In embodiments, the edges 108A, 108B, 108C may be defined by stitching, creases, or other elements at the periphery of the first panel 104A. In embodiments, the edges 108A, 108B, 108C may define fold lines or areas between the various panels 104.
[0051] The panels 104 may include various shapes to fit the cover 100 to a neonatal bed, as described below. For example, the first panel 104A and the fourth panel 104D may have a rectangular shape as shown, although quadrilateral shapes are contemplated. The second panel 104B and the third panel 104C may have a quadrilateral shape or a pentagonal shape, although other shapes are contemplated to fit the cover 100 to the neonatal bed. As shown, the top ofeach of the second panel 104B and the third panel 104C includes a first edge 110 and a second edge 112 offset or angling from the first edge 110.
[0052] In embodiments, the cover 100 includes one or more engagements 114 securing adjacent panels 104 together. For example, the cover 100 may include a first engagement 114A to releasably secure the fourth panel 104D to the second panel 104B. The first engagement 114A may be any structure or device operable to releasably secure the fourth panel 104D to the second panel 104B. As one example, the first engagement 114A may be a zipper including zip tape 116 extending along adjacent edges of the fourth panel 104D and the second panel 104B (e.g., the first and second edges 110, 1 12), and a slider 118 operable to releasably secure the zip tape 116 together. Other examples may include buttons, buckles, straps, clips, or other fasteners, such as non-metal fasteners. In embodiments, the first engagement 114A may provide a quiet engagement of the fourth panel 104D to the second panel 104B, such as to limit sound and / or vibrational stimulation to a baby within an associated neonatal bed.
[0053] In embodiments, the cover 100 may include a second engagement 114B to releasably secure the fourth panel 104D to the third panel 104C. The second engagement 114B may be similar to the first engagement 114A. For example, the second engagement 114B may be a zipper including zip tape 120 extending along adjacent edges of the fourth panel 104D and the third panel 104C (e.g., the first and second edges 110, 112). and a slider 122 operable to releasably secure the zip tape 120 together. In other examples, the second engagement 114B may include buttons, buckles, straps, clips, or other fasteners, such as non-metal fasteners. The second engagement 114B may provide a quiet engagement of the fourth panel 104D to the third panel 104C, such as to limit sound stimulation to a baby within an associated neonatal bed.
[0054] In embodiments, the cover 100 may include an opening 128 defined in at least one of the panels 104 (e.g., in at least one of the second panel 104B, the third panel 104C, or the fourth panel 104D). For example, as illustrated in FIG. 2. the cover 100 may include a first opening 128A defined in the second panel 104B. The cover 100 may also include a second opening 128B defined in the third panel 104C. In embodiments, the cover 100 includes a third opening 128C defined in the fourth panel 104D. As described below, the openings 128 may allow access to an underlying neonatal bed, such as to access a port hole or door in the neonatal bed. The first and second openings 128 A, 128B may have a circular shape, among other shapes, to match the shape of an underlying port hole or door. The third opening 128C may have a rectangular or other shape that matches an underlying port hole or door in the neonatal bed and / or otherwise allows viewing access to the neonatal bed from the top.
[0055] In embodiments, the cover 100 may include at least one (e.g., a plurality of) repositionable features that enable selective access to an interior of an associated neonatal bed without removing the entire cover 100. For example, the cover 100 may include one or more flaps 134 to selectively cover the opening(s) 128. For example, as illustrated in FIG. 1, the cover 100 (e.g., the second panel 104B) may include a first flap 134A to selectively cover the first opening 128A. Similarly, the cover 100 (e.g.. the third panel 104C) may include a second flap 134B to selectively cover the second opening 128B. In embodiments, the cover 100 (e.g.. the fourth panel 104D) includes at least one third flap 134C (e.g., a pair of third flaps 134C) to selectively cover the third opening 128C. As shown, the third flap(s) 134C may be coupled to the fourth panel 104D along an edge 136 defining the third opening 128C, and sized to fill or substantially fill the third opening 128C, although other configurations are contemplated. The first flap 134 A may be coupled to the second panel 104B, such as an edge 138 of the first flap 134A coupled to an outer face 140 of the second panel 104B. The second flap 134B may be coupled to the third panel 104C, such as an edge 142 of the second flap 134B coupled to an outer face 144 of the third panel 104C.
[0056] In embodiments, the cover 100 may include one or more cutouts 150 defined in an edge of a panel. For example, a pair of cutouts 150 may be defined in an edge (e.g., a distal edge) of the second panel 104B and / or the third panel 104C. The cutouts 150 may allow accommodate or allow- access to other features of the neonatal bed, such as tubing, grommets, or other elements of the neonatal bed, as described below.
[0057] FIGS. 1-2 illustrate the cover 100 in an unassembled configuration. In the unassembled configuration, the cover 100 may be unfolded or expanded (e.g., the panels 104 extending in the same or substantially the same plane), with the engagements 114A, 114B released. In other examples, the engagements 114A, 114B may be released and the cover 100 folded or compressed. The unassembled configuration may facilitate storage, inspection and / or cleaning of the cover 100. In embodiments, the unassembled configuration may facilitate securement of the cover 100 to a neonatal bed, as described below.
[0058] FIGS. 3A-3C illustrate the cover 100 in an assembled configuration. As shown, the various panels 104 of the cover 100 may be folded and secured, such to fit the cover 100 to a neonatal bed. For example, the second panel 104B may be folded relative to the first panel 104 A, such as to extend the second panel 104B orthogonal or substantially orthogonal to the first panel 104A. Similarly, the third panel 104C may be folded relative to the first panel 104A, such as to extend the third panel 104C orthogonal or substantially orthogonal to the first panel104A. When folded, the first panel 104 A, second panel 104B, and third panel 104C may define a U-shape. The fourth panel 104D may be folded relative to the first panel 104A. For example, the fourth panel 104D may be folded until a first portion 310 of the fourth panel 104D extends along the first edges 110 of the second panel 104B and the third panel 104C. The fourth panel 104D may be folded further until a second portion 312 of the fourth panel 104D extends along the second edges 112 of the second panel 104B and the third panel 104C. Once folded, the first engagement 114A may be secured to couple the fourth panel 104D to the second panel 104B. Similarly, the second engagement 114B may be secured to couple the fourth panel 104D to the third panel 104C.
[0059] FIGS. 3 A-3C illustrates portions of the cover 100 in closed configurations. As shown, the flaps 134 may be closed to cover the respective openings 128. For example, the first flap 134A may be closed to cover the first opening 128A, and the second flap 134B may be closed to cover the second opening 128B. The third flap(s) 134C may also be closed to cover the third opening 128C. In embodiments, the first flap 134A may hang from the edge 138 to cover the first opening 128 A. Similarly, the second flap 134B may hang from the edge 142 to cover the second opening 128B. In this manner, the natural or neutral position of the first flap 134A and the second flap 134B may cover the first opening 128 A and the second opening 128B. When closed, the flaps 134 may limit sound, light, or other environmental conditions from entering the openings 128, such as to reduce environmental stimulation and / or exposure to a baby positioned within an associated neonatal bed.
[0060] FIG. 4 illustrates the cover 100 in an assembled configuration with portions of the cover 100 in open configurations. As shown, one or more flaps 134 may be opened to uncover the respective openings 128. For example, the first flap 134A may be opened to uncover the first opening 128A. Similarly, the second flap 134B may be opened to uncover the second opening 128B. The first flap 134A may be opened by lifting a lower edge of the first flap 134A, and the second flap 134B may be opened by lifting a low er edge of the second flap 134B. In embodiments, the first flap 134A and / or the second flap 134B may be retained in the open configuration. For example, the first flap 134A and / or the second flap 134B may be held open by a button, buckle, strap, clip, releasable engagement, or other fastener. The third flap(s) 134C may be opened to uncover the third opening 128C, such as by lifting the third flap(s) 134C and rotating the third flap(s) 134C towards the first engagement 114A and / or the second engagement 114B. When opened, the third flap(s) 134C may rest against the fourth panel 104D(e.g., the first portion 310). In embodiments, the third flap(s) 134C may be retained in the open configuration, such as by a button, buckle, strap, clip, releasable engagement, or other fastener.
[0061] FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view of the cover 100. The cover 100 may be formed from a multi-layer material. The multiple layers of the material may provide a desired characteristic of the cover 1 0. For example, in embodiments, the cover 100 may include an insulating characteristic. In such embodiments, the cover 100 includes an insulating material 506. The insulating material 506 may define an insulative layer, such as a core layer of the cover 100. The insulating material 506 may be a foam material, a fiber material, or any material that provides an insulating characteristic, such as to reduce sound transmission into a neonatal bed and retain heat. In embodiments, the cover 100 may include a reflective sheet 512. The reflective sheet 512 may be applied to the insulating material 506 to provide further insulating properties for the cover 100. For example, the reflective sheet 512 may provide a radiant barrier to reflect heat radiation. In embodiments, the cover 100 may include an outer layer 518. The outer lay er 518 may be a nylon or vinyl layer to encompass the insulating material 506 and the reflective sheet 512, among other layers of the cover 100.
[0062] The above material combination may provide desired characteristics of the cover 100. For example, the material combination may allow the cover 100 to reduce sound (e.g., by 15- 20db) and / or provide insulation for an associated neonatal bed. The outer layer 518 may be water resistant or waterproof to allow the cover 100 to be easily cleaned. For example, the cover 100 may be washed as needed. The material combination may also provide a quiet material, such as to limit sound stimulation to a baby within an associated neonatal bed.
[0063] FIGS. 6-9 illustrate a system 600 including the cover 100 and a neonatal bed 604. The neonatal bed 604 may be any bed, enclosure, or device that protects babies and infants (e.g., a neonatal incubator, etc.). The neonatal bed 604 may include multiple sides to house an infant or baby therein. For example, the neonatal bed 604 may include a first side 608A defining a rear of the neonatal bed 604, a second side 608B defining a first lateral side of the neonatal bed 604, a third side 608C defining a second lateral side of the neonatal bed 604 opposite the first side 608A. and a fourth side 608D defining atop of the neonatal bed 604. In embodiments, the neonatal bed 604 may include additional sides, such as a front side and / or a bottom side. In such embodiments, the panels 104 may be positionable on respective sides of the neonatal bed 604, as detailed below. In embodiments, a first edge 610 may be defined between the second side 608B and the fourth side 608D, and a second edge 612 may be defined between the third side 608C and the fourth side 608D.
[0064] The neonatal bed 604 may include various holes, doors, openings, and / or port holes providing access to the interior of the neonatal bed 604. For example, a port hole 614 and / or a pair of grommets 616 may be defined in the second side 608B. The port hole 614 may allow personnel to reach into the neonatal bed 604. The grommets 616 may provide openings for tubing and / or cord access. Although not illustrated, the third side 608C may include a similar configuration. Additional port holes or openings may be defined in other sides of the neonatal bed 604, including the front side as shown.
[0065] FIG. 6 illustrates the cover 100 in a first (e.g., storage) configuration relative to the neonatal bed 604. The cover 100 may be flexible or pliable allowing the cover 100 to be folded. For example, when the neonatal bed 604 is not in use, the cover 100 may be folded and placed on the neonatal bed 604 for storage. In some embodiments, the cover 100 may be folded and placed in a bag hanging from the neonatal bed 604. In this manner, each neonatal bed 604 may include an associated cover 100 ready to be deployed if needed.
[0066] FIG. 7 illustrates the cover 100 in a second configuration relative to the neonatal bed 604. The cover 100 may be unfolded, such as unfolded to the flat configuration. To secure the cover 100 to the neonatal bed 604, the first panel 104 A may be positioned to engage the first side 608A (e g., the rear) of the neonatal bed 604. In such embodiments, the first panel 104A may be sized to match or substantially match the first side 608A of the neonatal bed 604.
[0067] FIG. 8 illustrates the cover 100 in a third configuration relative to the neonatal bed 604. The second panel 104B may be positioned to engage the second side 608B of the neonatal bed 604, and the third panel 104C may be positioned to engage the third side 608C of the neonatal bed 604. For example, the second panel 104B may be folded relative to the first panel 104A to wrap around the second side 608B of the neonatal bed 604. Similarly, the third panel 104C may be folded relative to the first panel 104A to wrap around the third side 608C of the neonatal bed 604. In such embodiments, the second panel 104B and the third panel 104C may be positioned to engage opposing lateral sides of the neonatal bed 604.
[0068] In such positions, the first opening 128A may align with the port hole 614, and the first flap 134A may selectively cover the port hole 614. The second opening 128B and second flap 134B may align and selectively cover a similar port hole of the third side 608C. The cutouts 150 may align with the grommets 616. As shown, the first engagement 114A may align along the first edge 610 of the neonatal bed 604 and / or the second engagement 1 14B may align along the second edge 612 of the neonatal bed 604.
[0069] FIG. 9 illustrates the cover 100 in a fourth configuration relative to the neonatal bed 604. The fourth panel 104D may be positioned to engage the fourth side 608D of the neonatal bed 604. For example, the fourth panel 104D may be folded relative to the first panel 104A to wrap around the top or fourth side 608D of the neonatal bed 604. Once folded, the fourth panel 104D may be secured to the second panel 104B and / or the third panel 104C, such as via the first engagement 114A and / or the second engagement 114B. In this manner, at least two of the panels 104 may be releasably secured to secure the cover 100 to the neonatal bed 604.
[0070] Once secured, the cover 100 may provide a tight fit or snug to the neonatal bed 604, such as limit portions of the cover 100 from catching on objects or personnel. The various panels 104 of the cover 100 may cover a substantial portion of the neonatal bed 604, while still allowing sight access and / or quick access for emergency. For example, the cover 100 may keep the front of the neonatal bed 604 open for 24 / 7 access and visibility. In such embodiments, the cover 100 may limit light, vibration, sound, and other stimulation sources for a baby, among other benefits. In embodiments, the third flap(s) 134C may be opened to increase light for staff to perform procedures on the baby and / or allow use of a portable X-ray or ultrasound machine. As noted above, the cover 100 may be removed for storage, cleansed according to medical protocols, and reused as needed.
[0071] FIGS. 10-11 are isometric views of an additional implementation of a neonatal bed cover 1000 (hereinafter “cover” for sake of convenience without intent to limit) coupled to a neonatal bed 1002, according to embodiments of the disclosure. Except as otherwise noted below, the cover 1000 may be similar to cover 100, described above. For example, the cover 1000 may include one or more panels 1004, such as multiple panels 1004, that limit environmental stimulation or exposure to a premature or health-compromised baby. Similar features may also be identified with similar reference numbers.
[0072] In examples, the cover 1000 includes a first panel 1004A. The first panel 1004A. which may be referred to as a side panel or cover, may be coupled to a first side 1008A (e.g., front or rear, left or right) of the neonatal bed 1002. The first panel 1004A may be shaped to fit to the first side 1008 A. For instance, the first panel 1004A may include one or more openings 1028 that align with corresponding port holes 1014 of the neonatal bed 1002. In the example illustrated in FIG. 10, the first panel 1004 A includes a pair of openings that align with a pair of port holes 1014, although other configurations are contemplated. In such examples, the openings 1028 may be shaped to accommodate hinges, handles, or other elements of the port holes 1014, such as to allow full use of the port holes 1014. In some examples, the first panel1004A may interface with features of the first side 1008A to secure the first panel 1004A in place. For example, the openings 1028 may be sized and shaped to interface with elements of the port holes 1014, such as the edge of the openings 1028 engaging hinges, handles, or other elements of the port holes 1014 to hold the first panel 1004A in place. In some examples, the first panel 1004A may be secured (e.g., releasably) to the first side 1008 A, such as via releasable clips, buckles, or fasteners. For instance, the first panel 1004A may include one or more clips or buckles configured to engage the first side 1008 A, as described below.
[0073] In examples, the cover includes a second panel 1004B. The second panel 1004B may be coupled to a second side 1008B (e.g., head or foot) of the neonatal bed 1002. In the example of FIGS. 10-11, the second panel 1004B is coupled to the foot of the neonatal bed 1002, or the side furthest away from the bed’s electronics, controls, or equipment. In such examples, the second panel 1004B may be referred to as a foot panel or cover. The second panel 1004B may be shaped to fit to the second side 1008B. For instance, the second panel 1004B may include one or more cutouts 1050 that align with corresponding holes 1052 of the neonatal bed 1002 (e.g., tubing, grommets, etc.). As shown, the cutouts 1050 may be defined along a periphery of the second panel 1004B, allowing the second panel 1004B to be secured to and removed from the second side 1008B without disturbing tubing or cords extending through the holes. In this manner, the cutouts 1050 may accommodate full use of the neonatal bed 1002. In some examples, the second panel 1004B may be secured (e.g., releasably) to the second side 1008B, such as via releasable clips, buckles, or fasteners. For instance, the second panel 1004B may include one or more clips or buckles configured to engage the second side 1008B.
[0074] In examples, the cover 1000 includes a third panel 1004C. The third panel 1004C may be coupled to a third side 1008C (e.g.. head or foot) opposite the second side 1008B. In the example of FIGS. 10-11, the third panel 1004C is coupled to the head of the neonatal bed 1002, or the side closest to the bed’s electronics, controls, or equipment. In such examples, the third panel 1004C may be referred to as a head panel or cover. The third panel 1004C may be shaped to fit to the third side 1008C. For instance, the third panel 1004C may include one or more cutouts 1050 similar to the second panel 1004B. The cutouts 1050 may be defined along a periphery of the third panel 1004C to accommodate tubing or cords extending through the holes. In some examples, the third panel 1004C may be secured (e.g., releasably) to the third side 1008C, such as via releasable clips, buckles, or fasteners. For instance, the third panel 1004C may include one or more clips or buckles configured to engage the third side 1008C.
[0075] In examples, the cover 1000 includes a fourth panel 1004D. The fourth panel 1004D may be coupled to a fourth side 1008D of the neonatal bed 1002. For instance, the fourth panel 1004D may be coupled to a top of the neonatal bed 1002. The fourth panel 1004D may be shaped to fit to the fourth side 1008D. For instance, the fourth side 1008D may be defined by ahood or canopy 1010. The hood or canopy 1010 may be raised or lowered, such as adjusting vertically to open and gain access to the baby (e.g., without losing heat). In this manner, the hood or canopy 1010 may be raised for 24 / 7 access to the baby while still providing radiant heat to the baby when open. The hood or canopy 1010 may include a three-dimensional (3D) shape, such as to accommodate warmers, lights, or other elements. The fourth panel 1004D may be shaped to fit the hood or canopy 1010 (e.g., such that the fourth panel 1004D may be referred to as a canopy or hood panel or cover). For example, the fourth panel 1004D may include a central portion 1020 and multiple side portions (e.g., first, second, and third side portions 1022A, 1022B, 1022C) extending from the central portion 1020. The first, second, and third side portions 1022A, 1022B, 1022C may fold relative to the central portion 1020, such as along edges between the portions defined by stitching or creases. In examples, a first engagement 1016A (e.g., a zipper, buttons, clips, straps, etc.) may releasably secure the first side portion 1022A to the second side portion 1022B, such as along an edge of the hood or canopy 1010. A second engagement 1016B (e.g., a zipper, buttons, clips, straps, etc.) may releasably secure the second side portion 1022B to the third side portion 1022C, such as along a different edge of the hood or canopy 1010. In some examples, the fourth panel 1004D may be secured (e.g., releasably) to the fourth side 1008D, such as via releasable clips or fasteners. For instance, the fourth panel 1004D may include one or more clips that engage features of the hood or canopy 1010 (e.g.. a housing, bezel, etc.), as described below.
[0076] In examples, the cover 1000 includes a fifth panel 1004E. The fifth panel 1004E, which may be referred to as a side panel or cover, may be coupled to a fifth side 1008E opposite the first side 1008A. Like the first panel 1004A, the fifth panel 1004E may include one or more openings 1028 (e.g., a pair of openings 1028) that align with corresponding port holes 1 14 of the neonatal bed 1002 to fit the fifth panel 1004E to the fifth side 1008E. In some examples, the fifth panel 1004E may be secured (e.g., releasably) to the fifth side 1008E, such as via releasable clips, buckles, or fasteners. For instance, the fifth panel 1004E may include one or more clips or buckles configured to engage the fifth side 1008E, as described below.
[0077] The various panels (e.g.. any combination of the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth panels 1004A, 1004B, 1004C, 1004D, 1004E) may reduce environmental stimulation andexposure to a baby positioned within the neonatal bed 1002. For example, even when the hood or canopy 1010 is lifted or raised, the first, second, third, and fifth panels 1004A, 1004B, 1004C, 1004E (or any combination thereof) may reduce vibrations, noise, light, and other undesired stimuli. The fourth panel 1004D may provide insulative characteristics, such as reducing heat loss, focusing heat to the baby, or the like. In addition, the fourth panel 1004D may reduce light exposure to the baby from above. Like the fourth panel 104D, described above, the fourth panel 1004D may include an opening (e.g., a "‘sun roof’; not shown) that allows use of a portable X-ray or ultrasound machine through the panel. In this and other examples described herein, the cover 1000 may allow full functionality' of the neonatal bed 1002 while the cover 1000 is on, which is distinct from existing covers that must be removed for use (e.g., to gain access to the baby).
[0078] The cover 1000 may be modular to fit to particular needs or to the particular bed. For example, the cover 1000 may include panels all the way around the neonatal bed 1002, or one or more panels may be removed as desired (e.g., to have a ’‘work panel” that is open for 24 / 7 visibility7of the baby, to tailor the desired reduction of environmental stimuli, etc.). Additionally, or alternatively, individual panels may be removed (e.g., for cleaning, replacement, etc.) without removing the entire cover 1000.
[0079] FIG. 12 is an elevation view of the canopy / hood or fourth panel 1004D according to embodiments of the disclosure. The fourth panel 1004D (e.g., the various portions of the fourth panel 1004D) may be shaped to accommodate the various surfaces of the hood or canopy 1010. For example, the central portion 1020 and each of the first, second, and third side portions 1022 A. 1022B, 1022C may be shaped and positioned to accommodate corresponding angled surfaces of the hood or canopy 1010. In examples, a single portion (e.g., the second side portion 1022B) may accommodate multiple angled surfaces, such as shaped to fit the portion to the multiple surfaces and angles.
[0080] FIG. 12A is a cross-sectional view of a connection mechanism of the fourth panel 1004D. The fourth panel 1004D may include a clip 1024 (e.g., a 90 degree clip) along an edge of the panel. For example, the clip 1024 may be sewn to an edge of the central portion 1020. In such examples, the clip 1024 may engage the hood or canopy 1010, such as clipping to a housing or bezel of the hood or canopy 1010, to hold the fourth panel 1004D in place on the hood or canopy 1010. For example, the clip 1024 may engage the hood or canopy 1010 (or another portion of the neonatal bed 1002) to limit or keep the fourth panel 1004D from sliding or translating on the hood or canopy 1010. The clip 1024 may allow quick removal of the fourthpanel 1004D, so that the fourth panel 1004D may be readily available for removal at any given moment.
[0081] FIG. 12B is a cross-sectional view of the fourth panel 1004D, showing an example multi-layer construction. In examples, the fourth panel 1004D may include an insulation layer1506 and a structure layer 1507 positioned between an outer layer 1518 (e g., between vinyl top and bottom layers). The structure layer 1507 may be a corrugated plastic sheet (“coroplast”). The outer layer 1518 may include vinyl top and bottom layers to encompass the insulation layer 1506 and coroplast, among other layers of the fourth panel 1004D. In examples, a shaping layer 1060 (see FIG. 16) may be positioned between the structure layer 1507 and the outer layer 1518, such as to provide shape to the fourth panel 1004D. The shaping layer 1060 may provide additional structure to the panel. For example, the shaping layer 1060 may be formed with angles to fit the panel to the neonatal bed 1002, such as to hold the structure layer1507 to the shape or contour of the bed 1002. Although shown and described with reference to the fourth panel 1004D, the other panels of the cover 1000 may include a similar construction.
[0082] FIG. 13 is an elevation view of the first panel 1004 A or the fifth panel 1004E according to embodiments of the disclosure. In examples, the first and fifth panels 1004 A, 1004E may be similar or identical. Thus, the description of the features below may apply to both the first panel 1004A and the fifth panel 1004E. In other embodiments, the first panel 1004A may be different than the fifth panel 1004E, such as including unique features to fit the panels to their respective sides of the neonatal bed 1002. For example, in addition to the features described below, one of the first panel 1004A or the fifth panel 1004E may include features not in common with the other of the first panel 1004A or the fifth panel 1004E. For example, the first panel 1004 A may include additional features over the fifth panel 1004E, or vice-versa.
[0083] Referring to FIG. 13, the openings 1028 may extend along a width of the panel, such as from adjacent a left side of the panel to adjacent a right side of the panel. In examples, a single opening may be shaped to align with two port holes 1014 of the neonatal bed 1002. For instance, lateral portions of the opening may be enlarged to fit the port holes 1014, with a narrow opening section 1030 extending between enlarged ends 1032. In such examples, the narrow opening section 1030 can accommodate handles or locks of the port holes 1014 (see FIG. 10). The enlarged ends 1032 may be shaped to allow the port holes 1014 to swing open or shut.
[0084] In examples, the panel may include a buckle 1040 and a strap 1042. The buckle 1040 may be secured to the panel, such as via sewing a buckle strap to the panel with the buckle 1040 looped in the buckle strap. In examples, the buckle 1040 may be oriented in a first direction, such as downw ards towards the floor when the panel is positioned on the neonatal bed 1002. The strap 1042 may be secured to the panel, such as via sewing an end of the strap 1042 to the panel. The strap 1042 may be oriented in a second direction, such as upwards away from the floor when the panel is positioned on the neonatal bed 1002. To secure the panel to the neonatal bed 1002, the strap 1042 may be ran up, over, and behind the first 1008 A or fifth side 1008E, with the buckle 1040 able to be wrapped around the bottom of the same side, clipped to the strap 1042, and pulled securely, although other configurations are contemplated.
[0085] FIG. 14 is an elevation view of the head or third panel 1004C according to embodiments of the disclosure. In examples, the cutouts 1050 may be defined along each of the left, right, and top edges / ends of the third panel 1004C. For example, multiple cutouts 1050 (e g., a pair of cutouts 1050) may be defined along each of the left and right edges / ends, and a single cutout 1050 may be defined along the top edge / end. The single cutout 1050 may extend tow ards the bottom of the third panel 1004C, such as to a depth greater than half of the third panel's height, although other configurations are contemplated. In examples, the third panel 1004C may include a window 1048. The window 1048 may provide physical or viewing access. For instance, the window- 1048 may allow accommodate sensors, tubing, or other features of the neonatal bed 1002. In examples, the periphery of the third panel 1004C may be shaped to match the head of the neonatal bed 1002. For example, the top and bottom edges (or any other panel edge) may be stepped, notched, angled, or otherwise shaped to fit the third panel 1004C to the head of the neonatal bed 1002.
[0086] In examples, the third panel 1004C may include a buckle 1044 and a strap 1046. The buckle 1044 may be secured to the third panel 1004C, such as via sewing a buckle strap to the third panel 1004C with the buckle 1044 looped in the buckle strap. In examples, the buckle 1044 may be oriented in a first direction. The strap 1046 may be secured to the third panel 1004C, such as via sewing an end of the strap 1046 to the third panel 1004C. The strap 1046 may be oriented in a different second direction (e.g., opposite the first direction). To secure the third panel 1004C to the neonatal bed 1002, the strap 1046 may be ran up, over, and behind the third side 1008C, with the buckle 1044 able to be wrapped around the bottom of the third side 1008C. clipped to the strap 1046, and pulled securely, although other configurations are contemplated.
[0087] FIG. 15 is an elevation view of the foot or second panel 1004B according to embodiments of the disclosure. Like the third panel 1004C, the cutouts 1050 may be defined along each of the left, right, and top edges / ends of the second panel 1004B. For example, multiple cutouts 1050 (e.g., a pair of cutouts 1050) may be defined along each of the left and right edges / ends, and a single cutout 1050 may be defined along the top edge / end. The single cutout 1050 may extend towards the bottom of the second panel 1004B, such as to a depth greater than half of the second panel's height, although other configurations are contemplated. In examples, the pen phen- of the second panel 1004B may be shaped to match the foot of the neonatal bed 1002. For example, the top edge (or any other panel edge) may be stepped, notched, angled, or otherwise shaped to fit the second panel 1004B to the foot of the neonatal bed 1002.
[0088] In examples, the second panel 1004B may include a buckle 1054 and a strap 1056. The buckle 1 54 may be secured to the second panel 1004B, such as via sewing a buckle strap to the second panel 1004B with the buckle 1054 looped in the buckle strap. In examples, the buckle 1054 may be oriented in a first direction. The strap 1056 may be secured to the second panel 1004B. such as via sewing an end of the strap 1056 to the second panel 1004B. The strap 1056 may be oriented in a different second direction (e.g., opposite the first direction). To secure the second panel 1004B to the neonatal bed 1002, the strap 1056 may be ran up, over, and behind the second side 1008B, with the buckle 1054 able to be wrapped around the bottom of the second side 1008B, clipped to the strap 1056. and pulled securely, although other configurations are contemplated.
[0089] FIG. 16 is an elevation view of the foot or second panel 1004B with an outer layer 1518 removed for illustration purposes. In particular, outer layer 1518 is removed to illustrate the structure layer 1507 and the shaping layer 1060 of second panel 1004B. The shaping layer 1060 may hold various layers of the second panel 1004B together, such as holding the outer layer 1518 in place. For instance, the shaping layer 1060 may be glued to the structure layer 1507 and engage the outer layer 1518 (e.g., via adhesive, hook-and-loop fasteners, or the like), such as to hold the outer layer 1518 close to or against the structure layer 1507.
[0090] In examples, the shaping layer 1060 may be shaped to fit the second panel 1004B to the foot of the neonatal bed 1002. For instance, the shaping layer 1060 may be angled, bent, or otherwise shaped in one or more directions to fit or hold the second panel 1004B to the contour(s) of the neonatal bed 1002. In examples, the shaping layer 1060, or at least members thereof, may include an angle of between about 15 degrees and about 25 degrees (e.g., about22 degrees) to fit the second panel 1004B to one or more contours of the neonatal bed 1002. In some examples, the shaping layer 1060 may be shaped to fit the cutouts 1050 or other features of the second panel 1004B. As shown, the shaping layer 1060 may be formed by separate members distributed along the second panel 1004B (e.g., along the structure layer 1507), such as along side edges or generally the outer periphery of the second panel 1004B. How ever, the shaping layer 1060 may include other configurations, such as formed by a single member and / or positioned at different locations, to fit the second panel 1004B to the shape of the neonatal bed 1002 based on application. Although shown and described with reference to the second panel 1004B, the other panels of the cover 1000 may include a similar construction, or at least a shaping layer 1060 configured to shape the respective panel to the contour of the neonatal bed 1002.
[0091] FIG. 17 is an elevation view of another implementation of the foot or second panel 1004B according to embodiments of the disclosure. In examples, one or more of the cutouts 1050 along the top, left, or right edges of the second panel 1004B may be defined by respective openings 1064 or slits in the side or periphery' of the second panel 1004B. The openings 1064 or cutouts 1050 may be selectively opened or closed to fit the second panel 1004B to the side of the neonatal bed 1002. For example, the openings 1064 or cutouts 1050 may be opened to fit the second panel 1004B around tubing, cords, or other elements of the neonatal bed 1002. When not needed, for example in the absence of tubing or cords, the openings 1064 or cutouts 1050 may be closed. Although the second panel 1004B is described, the cutouts 1050 of the third panel 1004C may be defined and selectively opened or closed in a similar manner.
[0092] The openings 1064 may be defined by respective zippers 1070. For example, the zipper 1070 may include a first zipper tape with teeth 1072 along one side of the opening 1064, and a second zipper tape with teeth 1074 along the other side of the opening 1064. The zipper 1070 may be closed by engaging the first zipper tape or teeth 1072 with the second zipper tape or teeth 1074. The zipper 1070 may be opened by disengaging the zipper tapes or teeth 1072, 1074. By opening the zipper 1070. the opening 1064 is created along the periphery of the second panel 1004B. By closing the zipper 1070, the opening 1064 is closed. The zipper 1070 may be opened or closed to any position along its length to define an opening 1064 with a desired size. For example, the zipper 1070 may be full opened to define an opening 1064 w ith a maximum size. For a smaller opening 1064, the zipper 1070 may be progressively closed. Conversely, for a larger opening 1064. the zipper 1070 may be progressively opened. Although zippers 1070 are described, other fastening mechanisms are contemplated to selectively definethe openings 1064, including hook-and-loop fasteners, buttons and loops, snap fasteners, buckles, etc.
[0093] All relative and directional references (including top, bottom, side, front, rear, and so forth) are given by way of example to aid the reader’s understanding of the examples described herein. They should not be read to be requirements or limitations, particularly as to the position, orientation, or use unless specifically set forth in the claims. Connection references (e.g., attached, coupled, connected, joined, and the like) are to be construed broadly and may include intermediate members between a connection of elements and relative movement between elements.
