[0032] In accordance with various embodiments, the BS 202 may be an evolved node B (eNB) , a serving eNB, a target eNB, a femto station, or a pico station, for example. In some embodiments, the UE 204 may be embodied in various types of user devices such as a mobile phone, a smart phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , tablet, laptop computer, wearable computing device, etc. The processor modules 214 and 236 may be implemented, or realized, with a general purpose processor, a content addressable memory, a digital signal processor, an application specific integrated circuit, a field programmable gate array, any suitable programmable logic device, discrete gate or transistor logic, discrete hardware components, or any combination thereof, designed to perform the functions described herein. In this manner, a processor may be realized as a microprocessor, a controller, a microcontroller, a state machine, or the like. A processor may also be implemented as a combination of computing devices, e.g., a combination of a digital signal processor and a microprocessor, a plurality of microprocessors, one or more microprocessors in conjunction with a digital signal processor core, or any other such configuration.

[0033] Furthermore, the steps of a method or algorithm described in connection with the embodiments disclosed herein may be embodied directly in hardware, in firmware, in a software module executed by processor modules 214 and 236, respectively, or in any practical combination thereof. The memory modules 216 and 234 may be realized as RAM memory, flash memory, ROM memory, EPROM memory, EEPROM memory, registers, a hard disk, a removable disk, a CD-ROM, or any other form of storage medium known in the art. In this regard, memory modules 216 and 234 may be coupled to the processor modules 210 and 230, respectively, such that the processors modules 210 and 230 can read information from, and write information to, memory modules 216 and 234, respectively. The memory modules 216 and 234 may also be integrated into their respective processor modules 210 and 230. In some embodiments, the memory modules 216 and 234 may each include a cache memory for storing temporary variables or other intermediate information during execution of instructions to be executed by processor modules 210 and 230, respectively. Memory modules 216 and 234 may also each include non-volatile memory for storing instructions to be executed by the processor modules 210 and 230, respectively.

[0034] The network communication module 218 generally represents the hardware, software, firmware, processing logic, and / or other components of the base station 202 that enable bi-directional communication between base station transceiver 210 and other network components and communication nodes configured to communication with the base station 202. For example, network communication module 218 may be configured to support internet or WiMAX traffic. In a typical deployment, without limitation, network communication module 218 provides an 802.3 Ethernet interface such that base station transceiver 210 can communicate with a conventional Ethernet based computer network. In this manner, the network communication module 218 may include a physical interface for connection to the computer network (e.g., Mobile Switching Center (MSC) ) . The terms “configured for, ” “configured to” and conjugations thereof, as used herein with respect to a specified operation or function, refer to a device, component, circuit, structure, machine, signal, etc., that is physically constructed, programmed, formatted and / or arranged to perform the specified operation or function.

[0035] The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Model (referred to herein as, “open system interconnection model” ) is a conceptual and logical layout that defines network communication used by systems (e.g., wireless communication device, wireless communication node) open to interconnection and communication with other systems. The model is broken into seven subcomponents, or layers, each of which represents a conceptual collection of services provided to the layers above and below it. The OSI Model also defines a logical network and effectively describes computer packet transfer by using different layer protocols. The OSI Model may also be referred to as the seven-layer OSI Model or the seven-layer model. In some embodiments, a first layer may be a physical layer. In some embodiments, a second layer may be a Medium Access Control (MAC) layer. In some embodiments, a third layer may be a Radio Link Control (RLC) layer. In some embodiments, a fourth layer may be a Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) layer. In some embodiments, a fifth layer may be a Radio Resource Control (RRC) layer. In some embodiments, a sixth layer may be a Non Access Stratum (NAS) layer or an Internet Protocol (IP) layer, and the seventh layer being the other layer.

[0036] Various example embodiments of the present solution are described below with reference to the accompanying figures to enable a person of ordinary skill in the art to make and use the present solution. As would be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art, after reading the present disclosure, various changes or modifications to the examples described herein can be made without departing from the scope of the present solution. Thus, the present solution is not limited to the example embodiments and applications described and illustrated herein. Additionally, the specific order or hierarchy of steps in the methods disclosed herein are merely example approaches. Based upon design preferences, the specific order or hierarchy of steps of the disclosed methods or processes can be re-arranged while remaining within the scope of the present solution. Thus, those of ordinary skill in the art will understand that the methods and techniques disclosed herein present various steps or acts in a sample order, and the present solution is not limited to the specific order or hierarchy presented unless expressly stated otherwise.

[0037] 2. Systems and Methods for Downlink Control Channel Coverage Enhancement

[0038] Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) can be in 3GPP. However, due to large propagation loss, UE devices with low antenna gain may not able to access to NTN with legacy DL channel designed for TN. In order to support such UEs, methods for downlink control channel coverage enhancement are performed in this disclosure.

[0039] The structure of transparent NTN is illustrated in FIG. 3. The link between a UE and a satellite is service link. The link between a BS and a satellite is feeder link and is common for all UEs within the same cell.

[0040] In NTN systems, following methods can be considered for DL coverage enhancement. (1) Repetition: The transmitter can repetitively transmit the message for a period of time. Then, the receiver can combine the repetition and increase the performance of decoding. (2) Aggregation: For a PDCCH transmission, the time-frequency resources are divided in to multiple control channel elements (CCE) . Multiple CCEs can be aggregated to transmit one PDCCH. With higher aggregation level, more time-frequency resources will be used to transmit a message, e.g., lower code-rate can be achieved and better decoding performance can be expected.

[0041] In some embodiments, how to configure repetition and larger aggregation level for physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) can be performed. However, with larger aggregation level, the required resource for PDCCH can increase, which may lead to collision between control resource set (CORESET) and demodulation reference signal (DMRS) . How to handle such collision may be further considered. Moreover, for PDCCH repetition, how to implement the repetition can be performed in the present disclosure.

[0042] Implementation Example 1: Larger number of OFDM symbol in CORESET / SS

[0043] In a communication system, a physical downlink control channel can be detected in corresponding resources, e.g., control resource set (CORESET)  / synchronization signal (SS) in new radio (NR) . The location of the control channel resource can be designed to avoid collision with other signals, e.g., DMRS for physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) . For Type A mapping of DMRS, the first DMRS symbol can be determined based on a higher layer parameter. For example, the higher layer parameter can be shown as follows.

[0044] The first DMRS symbol can be at symbol 3 (i.e., 4th orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol) if dmrs-TypeA-Position= pos3; otherwise, the first DMRS symbol is at symbol 2. Correspondingly, the duration of CORESET is determined based on a higher layer parameter in ControlResourceSet.

[0045] That is, the CORESET / SS for PDCCH occupy at most 3 symbols. And duration=3 can be supported only if dmrs-TypeA-Position = pos3, as shown in FIG. 4. If more OFDM symbols (e.g., 4) are allocated for CORESET / SS to improve the PDCCH performance, the collision between DMRS and CORESET / SS may happen. How to configure CORESET / SS and / or DMRS can be considered to avoid the collision. FIG. 4 illustrates an example control resource set (CORESET)  / synchronization signal (SS) and  demodulation reference signal (DMRS) within one slot, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0046] Firstly, how to configure larger duration (i.e., larger number of OFDM symbols) for CORESET / SS can be considered. And at least one of following solutions can be adopted.

[0047] 1) Modify the values of higher layer parameters: As illustrated above, the duration of CORESET / SS can be determined based on higher layer parameter duration, whose value range is INTEGER (1.. maxCoReSetDuration) . And maxCoReSetDuration can be equal to 3. To support larger CORESET / SS duration, the maxCoReSetDuration can be increased to X, where X>3. And the values of duration can be 1 to X.

[0048] 2) Add new parameter indicating additional CORESET / SS duration: In this solution, the higher layer parameters (e.g., duration and maxCoReSetDuration) can be unchanged. And additional parameter, e.g., duration-additional, is introduced to indicate the additional duration for CORESET / SS. For example, if duration=X and duration-additional=Y, the final number of symbols for CORESET / SS is X+Y.

[0049] 3) Add new parameter indicating scaling factor of CORESET / SS duration: In this solution, the higher layer parameters (e.g., duration and maxCoReSetDuration) can be unchanged. And additional parameter, e.g., duration-scalingfactor, is introduced to indicate the scaling factor for CORESET / SS duration. For example, if duration=X and duration-scalingfactor=Y, the final number of symbols for CORESET / SS can be XY.

[0050] The new parameters mentioned above (e.g., additional CORESET / SS duration and / or scaling factor) may be configured via MIB broadcast, SIB broadcast, dedicated RRC signaling, or MAC CE signaling. Moreover, since the enhancement is to configure larger CORESET / SS duration than 3, the indication of new parameters may be conditioned by duration=3 or dmrs-TypeA-Position = pos3.

[0051] Secondly, when larger CORESET / SS duration configuration is allowed, how to configure or adjust DMRS symbol positions to avoid the collision can be considered. And at least one of following solutions can be considered.

[0052] (1) Modify the higher layer parameters for first DMRS symbol: add at least one additional component in high layer parameter for DMRS, e.g., “dmrs-TypeA-Position ENUMERATED {pos2, pos3, posX, posY} ” to indicate the first DMRS symbol can be configured at symbol X or symbol Y in the slot. To accommodate newly added candidate values for position of first DMRS symbol, the application condition for the table of PDSCH DMRS positions may also need to be updated. The DMRS position tables are shown as below.

[0053] Table 1: PDSCH DM-RS positions for single-symbol DM-RS.

[0054] Table 2: PDSCH DM-RS positions for double-symbol DM-RS.

[0055] The higher layer parameter dmrs-AdditionalPosition can indicate whether and how many additional DMRSs other than the first DMRS are used. Moreover, the application conditions for the table are also specified.

[0056] It can be observed that, dmrs-AdditionalPosition equals to 'pos3' is only supported when dmrs-TypeA-Position is equal to 'pos2' for single symbol DMRS, which means that when 3 additional DMRSs are added, the position of first DMRS can be at symbol 2, which may be used to ensure enough interval between different DMRSs. Therefore, similar optimizations may be applied for the case when dmrs-TypeA-Position is equal to 'posX' and X>3.

[0057] For example, the case dmrs-AdditionalPosition equal to 'pos2' may be only supported when dmrs-TypeA-Position is equal to 'pos2' or 'pos3' ; or the case dmrs-AdditionalPosition equal to 'pos2' may not supported when dmrs-TypeA-Position is equal to 'posX' , where X>3.

[0058] For example, the case dmrs-AdditionalPosition equal to 'pos1' may be only supported when dmrs-TypeA-Position is equal to 'pos2' or 'pos3' or 'pos4' ; or the case dmrs-AdditionalPosition equal to 'pos1' may not supported when dmrs-TypeA-Position is equal to 'posX' , where X>4.

[0059] For example, ld=3 to ld=Y symbols in Tables 1 and 2 respectively can be only applicable when dmrs-TypeA-Position is equal to 'posX' , where X<=Y-2.

[0060] Besides specifying restrictions on the application of columns and rows of the tables, modifying the values in the table can be another way to accommodate the new positions of first DMRS symbol. For example, when the first DMRS symbol position l0 is equal or larger than the positions of additional DMRS positions, the additional DMRSs can be omitted / skipped / deleted. For example, when l0 = 6 (dmrs-TypeA-Position is equal to 'pos5' ) , l0 = 12, and dmrs-AdditionalPosition = 'pos3' , the original DMRS positions 'l0 , 5, 8, 11' can be changed to ', 8, 11' since l0>= 5.

[0061] (2) Delay / postpone the actual position of first DMRS symbol when CORESET / SS duration larger than 3

[0062] The higher layer parameter for first DMRS symbol (dmrs-TypeA-Position) may not be changed. When the actual duration of CORESET / SS is configured larger than 3 (through any solution mentioned above) , e.g., X, the actual position of first DMRS symbol can be delayed / postponed by (X-3) symbols if dmrs-TypeA-Position='pos3' , or (X-2) symbols if dmrs-TypeA-Position='pos2' . For example, when dmrs-TypeA-Position='pos3' but the duration of CORESET / SS is configured as 5, the first DMRS symbol will be delayed / postponed by 2 as shown in FIG. 5. FIG. 5 illustrates an example delayed / postponed demodulation reference signal (DMRS) , in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0063] The application conditions for the DMRS tables introduced in previous solution may also be defined for this solution with different types of specification when CORESET / SS duration is larger than 3.

[0064] For example, the case dmrs-AdditionalPosition equals to 'pos2' is only supported when the number of symbols for CORESET / SS is equal or smaller than 3; or the case dmrs-AdditionalPosition equals to 'pos2' is not supported when the number of symbols for CORESET / SS is larger than 3.

[0065] For example, the case dmrs-AdditionalPosition equals to 'pos1' is only supported when the number of symbols for CORESET / SS is equal or smaller than 4; or the case dmrs-AdditionalPosition equals to 'pos1' is not supported when the number of symbols for CORESET / SS is larger than 4.

[0066] For example, ld=3 to ld=Y symbols in Tables 1 and 2 respectively are only applicable when the number of symbols for CORESET / SS is equal or smaller than Y-2;

[0067] Besides specifying restrictions on the application of columns and rows of the tables, modifying the values in the table can be another way to accommodate the new positions of first DMRS symbol. For example, when the delayed / postponed first DMRS symbol position l0 is equal or larger than the positions of additional DMRS positions, the additional DMRSs can be omitted / skipped / deleted. For example, when the actual position of first DMRS symbol is l0 = 6 (CORESET / SS duration is 6) , l0 = 12, and dmrs-AdditionalPosition = 'pos3' , the original DMRS positions 'l0 , 5, 8, 11' will be changed to 'l0 , 8, 11' since l0 >= 5.

[0068] (3) Split the CORESET / SS resource in separate time resources

[0069] When the actual duration of CORESET / SS is configured larger than 3 (through any solution mentioned above) , e.g., X, the CORESET / SS resource are split into Z=ceil (X / Y) time resources (e.g., slots) , where Y is the available CORESET / SS duration per time resource (e.g., per slot) . For example, assuming the continuous time resources for PDCCH transmission is per slot, when X=6 and Y=3, two slots are combined for PDCCH transmission as shown in FIG. 6. The UE may monitor the CORESET / SS resource in two slots and combine for PDCCH detection. When the time resource number per slot is one and Y<=3, the consecutive symbols for CORESET / SS in each slot is not changed and there is no need to modify the DMRS. The CORESET / SS in each time resource (e.g., slot) may be regarded as independent CORESET / SS but jointly used to transmit one PDCCH, or jointly considered as a large CORESET / SS used to transmit PDCCH.

[0070] Note that the Z time resources may be periodic or non-periodic. When the Z time resources are periodic, the network may indicate the periodicity and start / offset of the time resources for PDCCH transmission. When the Z time resources are non-periodic, the network may indicate the pattern of time resources. The above parameters may be indicated by network, e.g., via SIB / MIB broadcast or dedicated RRC signaling or MAC CE signaling. The pattern of time resource may be indicated via a list of intervals between adjacent time resources, or whether a time resource start / exist in a slot / symbol / occasion (e.g., via a bitmap) , or odd / even frames / subframes / slots are used for carrying time resource for same CORESET / SS / PDCCH. When no network indication, a default periodicity or a default pattern (e.g., per slot) can be taken.

[0071] When the periodicity of time resources is smaller than one slot, more than one time resource for PDCCH transmission may be allocated within one slot. The combination of time resources within one slot for CORESET / SS may be considered by default, which can avoid ambiguity on the resource combination. FIG. 6 illustrates an example split control resource set (CORESET)  / synchronization signal (SS) resource, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0072] (4) Multi-stage DCI

[0073] The content of PDCCH (e.g., DCI) may be divided into X components / parts and transmitted in separate PDCCH / CORESET / SS, e.g., as shown in FIG. 7. FIG. 7 illustrates an example multi-stage downlink  control information (DCI) , in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the full DCI can be divided into two parts. The first part is carried in PDCCH transmitted in CORESET / SS in slot 1. While the second part is carried in PDCCH transmitted in CORESET / SS in slot 2. The PDCCH transmitted in separate slots may be decoded separately. And the decoded DCI parts are combined to form the full DCI.

[0074] To properly combine the DCI components / parts to form correct full DCI, each DCI component / part may additionally indicate the information for DCI splitting or combination. For example, the DCI component / part may comprise at least one of: number of DCI stages / components / parts, the ordinal of the DCI stage / component / part (e.g., indicating this DCI part is the Xth stage / component / part) , the information of following DCI stage / component / part (e.g., time / frequency resource or time offset to monitor next DCI stage / component / part) , the combination information of the DCI stage / component / part (e.g., the flag / ID of the DCI, or time / frequency for initial DCI stage / component / part) .

[0075] In above solutions, when multiple CORESETs / SSs or a large CORESET / SS across multiple time resources (e.g., slots) are used jointly for PDCCH transmission, network may additionally indicate the start time information for transmission.

[0076] For example, the network may indicate a offset or start time T to count CORESETs / SSs or time resources (e.g., slots) used for PDCCH transmission. Following examples can be considered.

[0077] a. By assuming X CORESETs / SSs are used jointly for PDCCH transmission, the UE may combine every X CORESETs / SSs starting from time T to monitor PDCCH.

[0078] b. By assuming large CORESET / SS across X time resources (e.g., slots) are jointly used PDCCH transmission, the UE may combine every X time resources (e.g., slots) starting from time T to monitor PDCCH.

[0079] c. By assuming X-stage DCI is applied, the UE may combine every X CORESETs / SSs starting from time T to monitor PDCCH.

[0080] For example, the network may indicate the periodicity and start or offset time for initial time resource for joint PDCCH transmission. Then UE may use X-1 CORESETs / SSs / time resources following the initial time resource to monitor PDCCH. The X resources may be consecutive slots or available CORESETs / SSs. Or the X resources may be following another periodicity or pattern, which may be indicated by the network. Following examples can be considered.

[0081] a. The UE may determine initial CORESET / SS through certain periodicity / pattern and combine following X-1 CORESETs / SSs to monitor PDCCH. The X CORESETs / SSs may be periodic or in certain pattern (may be indicated by network) starting from the initial CORESET / SS.

[0082] b. The UE may determine initial time resource for large CORESET / SS through certain periodicity / pattern and combine following X-1 time resources to form a large CORESET / SS to monitor PDCCH. The X time resources may be periodic or in certain pattern (may be indicated by network) starting from the initial time resource.

[0083] c. The UE may decode initial DCI stage / component / part through certain periodicity / pattern and decode following DCI stages / components / parts in resources. The DCI stages / components / parts may be  periodic or in certain pattern indicated by the network. Or the resource for each DCI stage / component / part (except initial one) may be indicated in previous DCI stage / component / part.

[0084] If the network does not indicate the information about start time, the UE may try to blindly monitor PDCCH by combining different set of slots (based on indicated number of CORESETs / SSs or time resources for a large CORESET / SS) . In some embodiments, if network does not indicate the information about start time, a default start time may be taken, e.g., slot 0 in first subframe of SFN0.

[0085] In above solutions, when multiple CORESETs / SSs or a large CORESET / SS across multiple time resources (e.g., slots) are used jointly for PDCCH transmission, the last / first CORESET / SS or the last / first time resource for a large CORESET / SS may be considered as the reference timing for scheduled PDSCH or PUSCH or PUCCH. For example, the procedure to determine PUSCH is as follows.

[0086] The slot n with the scheduling DCI, e.g., PDCCH, is the reference to determine the slot Ks for PUSCH transmit. DCI / PDCCH is transmitted in single slot and reference slot for determining PUSCH / PDCCH / PUCCH timing (e.g., slot n) can be determined without ambiguity. While with above enhancement, where one DCI / PDCCH can be transmitted in multiple slots, the reference slot for determining PUSCH / PDCCH / PUCCH timing (e.g., slot n) can be specified as the first or last slot for the scheduling DCI / PDCCH.

[0087] Implementation Example 2: PDCCH repetition

[0088] In a communication system, the PDCCH repetition may not be supported. To support PDCCH repetition, network configuration can be supported. At least one new parameter can be introduced to indicate the PDCCH repetition number and / or repetition pattern. Since the PDCCH repetition may have different repetition patterns, the parameter used to indicate repetition pattern may be different.

[0089] ① For example, a PDCCH can be repeated in consecutive symbols as shown in FIG. 8. FIG. 8 illustrates an example physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) repetition in consecutive symbols, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. In this case, at least the repetition number should be indicated. For DMRS collision issue, the solutions in implementation example-1 can be used by regarding the total duration of all repetitions as the CORESET / SS duration.

[0090] ② For example, a PDCCH can be repeated in the CORESET / SS in consecutive slots as shown in FIG. 9. FIG. 9 illustrates an example physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) repetition in consecutive  slots, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. In this case, at least the repetition number should be indicated. Since CORESET / SS in each slot is not changed, the DMRS collision issue may not needed to be considered. However, a UE may need to combine repetitions in different slots for repetition.

[0091] ③ For example, a PDCCH can be repeated with certain periodicity, e.g., every 2 slots or every 7 symbols. In this case, besides repetition number, the periodicity of repetition or time intervals between adjacent repetition should also be indicated. If the periodicity unit is slot, DMRS collision may be avoided as in ②. If symbols based unit is used, the solution to avoid DMRS collision may be used as in ①. The PDCCH repetition periodicity can be integer times of CORESET / SS periodicity.

[0092] ④ For example, a PDCCH can be repeated with certain pattern. For example, CORESETs / SSs in first X slots in the first subframe / frame of every Y subframes / frames. In this case, the repetition pattern may be indicated, e.g., the periodicity and offset of slot within a subframe / frame and the periodicity and offset of subframe / frame. For another example, at least one bitmap to indicate the CORESETs / SSs in which symbol / slot / subframe / frame or start from which symbol / slot / subframe / frame are used for repeating PDCCH. For another example, the periodicity and offset of initial repetition of PDCCH are indicated by the network, and at least one bitmap to indicate the CORESETs / SSs in which symbol / slot / subframe / frame are used for following repetitions.

[0093] ⑤ For example, a PDCCH can be repeated within consecutive (available) CORESETs / SSs. The CORESET / SS may be allocated following certain pattern. For example, there are four available CORESET / SS resources, where the first and second CORESET / SS resource are on slot 0 and slot 1, while the third and fourth CORESET / SS resource are on slot 8 and slot 9. Then the PDCCH is repeated on these resources on slot 0, slot 1, slot 8, and slot 9. The periodicity or pattern of PDCCH repetition may not need to be additionally indicated as long as the CORESET / SS configuration is known.

[0094] In above solutions, when repetition is across multiple time resources (e.g., slots) , network may additionally indicate the start time information for transmission. For example, the network may indicate a offset or start time T to count repetitions. By assuming PDCCH is repeated across X time resources (e.g., slots) , the UE may combine every X time resources (e.g., slots) starting from time T to monitor PDCCH. For example, the network may indicate the periodicity and start or offset time for initial repetition. Then UE may combine X time resources (e.g., slots) starting from the resource for initial repetition to monitor PDCCH. The X resources may be consecutive time resources (e.g., slots) . Or the X resources may be following another periodicity or pattern, which may be indicated by network (e.g., via indication of periodicity, start / offset, bitmap of available time resource, etc) .

[0095] If the network does not indicate the information about start time, the UE may try to blindly monitor PDCCH by combining different set of slots (based on indicated number of CORESETs / SSs or time resources for a large CORESET / SS) . In some embodiments, if network does not indicate the information about start time, a default start time may be taken, e.g., slot 0 in first subframe of SFN0.

[0096] In above solutions, when multiple PDCCH repetitions across multiple time resources (e.g., slots) , the starting / ending slot of PDCCH repetition may be considered as the reference timing for scheduled PDSCH  or PUSCH or PUCCH. The details are similar to that in implementation example 1. Note that it is possible that UE may successfully decode PDCCH without receiving all repetitions. The slot n may be determined based on the configured starting slot or ending slot (derived based on configured start time, repetition number, and repetition pattern or periodicity) instead of the actually received starting / ending repetition.

[0097] The parameters mentioned in above solutions (e.g., repetition number, repetition periodicity / interval, start time or offset for repetition, bitmap for repetition pattern, etc) may be indicated in MIB broadcast, SIB broadcast, dedicated RRC signaling, or MAC CE signaling.

[0098] Implementation Example 3: Indication of whether to enhance certain types of PDCCH

[0099] In an NTN, different types of channels may have different achievable signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) . For example, the common channel may be associated with a wide beam, which has lower link budget. While the service data channel may be associated with a narrow beam, which has higher link budget. As a result, it is possible that the PDCCH transmitted in the beam for common channel, e.g., in CORESET0 or in common search space (CSS) (e.g., Type0-PDCCH CSS, Type0A-PDCCH CSS, Type1-PDCCH CSS, Type2-PDCCH CSS, Type3-PDCCH CSS) or in UE-specific search space (USS) in common / initial BWP, may have lower link budget and coverage enhancement introduced in previous embodiments are needed. Type0-PDCCH may be PDCCH scrambled by system information Radio Network Temporary Indentifier (SI-RNTI) for Remaining Minimum System Information (RMSI) , which may be used for SIB1. Type0A-PDCCH may be PDCCH scrambled by SI-RNTI for other SIB, which may be used for other SIBs. Type1-PDCCH may be PDCCH scrambled by Random Access-RNTI (RA-RNTI) or TC-RNTI, which may be used for PDCCH in random access procedure such as msg2 and msg4. Type2-PDCCH may be PDCCH scrambled by Paging –Radio Network Temporary Identifier (P-RNTI) , which may be used for paging. Type3-PDCCH may be PDCCH scrambled by Interruption-RNTI (INT-RNTI) , Slot Format Indication-RNTI (SFI-RNTI) , Transmit Power Control-Physical Uplink Shared Channel-RNTI (TPC-PUSCH-RNTI) , Transmit Power Control-Physical Uplink Control Channel-RNTI (TPC-PUCCH-RNTI) , TPC Sounding Reference Signal RNTI (TPCSRS-RNTI, C-RNTI) , Modulation Coding Scheme cell RNTI (MCS-C-RNTI) , or Configured Scheduling-RNTI (CS-RNTI) , which may be used for transmit power control or other common control. While for UE specific PDCCH transmitted in the beam for data transmission, e.g., in USS (e.g., in dedicated BWP) , coverage enhancement may not be needed due to higher link budget. Hence, the network may indicate that the coverage enhancement (such as larger CORESET / SS duration or repetition) are applicable to which types of PDCCH. In some embodiments, the network may indicate / configure the parameters mentioned above (e.g., CORESET / SS duration, repetition number, etc. ) per type of PDCCH.

[0100] For the detailed indication, at least one of following indication may be considered.

[0101] (1) Enabling at least one solution illustrated in implementation example 1 or implementation example 2 (e.g., larger CORESET / SS duration, joint CORESET / SS for PDCCH, multi-stage DCI, PDCCH repetition) for a type of PDCCH channel (e.g., common PDCCH channel such as CSS, CORESET0, or SS in common / initial BWP; or UE specific PDCCH channel such as USS or SS in dedicated BWP) . Each solution may correspond to one signaling. If more than one types of PDCCH are distinguished, more than one signaling can be defined for each type respectively. In some embodiments, a bitmap may indicate the enabling / disabling  for each type of PDCCH, with each bit indicating one type. In some embodiments, each type of PDCCH / SS / CORESET corresponds to one signaling or information element (IE) for indication.

[0102] (2) Parameters related to at least one solution illustrated in implementation example 1 or implementation example 2 for each type of PDCCH channel (may be conditioned when the solution is enabled) , e.g., duration of CORESET / SS, number of CORESETs / SSs / time resources for joint PDCCH transmission, number of PDCCH repetition, periodicity and start / offset of time resources for joint PDCCH transmission or PDCCH repetition, pattern of time resources for joint PDCCH transmission or PDCCH repetition, etc. In some embodiments, each type of PDCCH / SS / CORESET corresponds to one signaling or IE for configuration / indication of parameters. The signaling / IE may comprise the PDCCH / SS / CORESET type.

[0103] (3) If there is no distinguish of PDCCH types, the enabling / disabling signaling and parameters may be common for all PDCCH transmissions, or only applicable for following PDCCH transmissions.

[0104] The above indication or parameter may be indicated in MIB broadcast, SIB broadcast, dedicated RRC signaling, or MAC CE signaling. At least one of following information elements or signalings can be considered to include the indication or parameter: pdcch-ConfigSIB1, MIB, pdcch-ConfigCommon, BWP-DownlinkCommon, downlinkConfigCommon / downlinkConfigCommonSIB, ServingCellConfigCommon / ServingCellConfigCommonSIB, pdcch-Config, BWP-DownlinkDedicated, BWP-DownlinkDedicatedSDT, CFR-ConfigMulticast. For UE in connected mode, the indication or parameter may be configured via dedicated RRC signaling, e.g., pdcch-Config, BWP-DownlinkDedicated, BWP-DownlinkDedicatedSDT. The indication or parameters for all types of PDCCH may be configured with same or separate signaling / IE. For common PDCCH or common CORESET / SS, the indication or parameter may be configured in common / broadcast signalings, e.g., pdcch-ConfigSIB1, MIB, pdcch-ConfigCommon, BWP-DownlinkCommon, downlinkConfigCommon / downlinkConfigCommonSIB, ServingCellConfigCommon / ServingCellConfigCom-monSIB. For example, for Type0-PDCCH, the indication or parameter should be in MIB (pdcch-ConfigSIB1) . Since SIB1 may be indicated in BWP other than initial DL BWP, the indication or parameters can also be in pdcch-ConfigCommon. The searchSpaceType is searchSpaceSIB1 or searchSapceZero. For Type0A-PDCCH, Type1-PDCCH, and Type2-PDCCH, the UE can be able to detect the PDCCH in idle mode. The indication or parameters can be in pdcch-ConfigCommon. The searchSpaceType can be searchSpaceOtherSystemInformaiton, ra-SearchSpace, pagingSearchSpace, respectively. While for Type3-PDCCH, although it is common control channel, it may be applicable for UE in connected mode (e.g., transmit power control) . The indication or parameters can be in pdcch-Config. But the searchSpaceType can be common. While for USS, it is applicable for UE in connected mode. The indication or parameters can be in pdcch-Config. And the searchSpaceType can be ue-Specific.

[0105] Moreover, when configuring PDCCH / SS / CORESET via broadcast, e.g., in MIB or SIB, it is possible that different UEs use different configurations. For example, some UEs with good coverage performance may use legacy PDCCH / SS / CORESET configuration, some other UEs with moderate coverage performance may use the enhanced PDCCH / SS / CORESET configuration with low enhancement level (e.g., a few repetitions) , and some UEs with poor coverage performance may used the enhanced PDCCH / SS / CORESET configuration with high enhancement level (e.g., large number of repetitions) . And with consideration of the  mobility of UE or network node, the configuration may also change. Broadcasting multiple set of parameters and frequently update the parameters may be costing. To save signaling overhead, some enhanced PDCCH / SS / CORESET may be predefined in the standard. The network only need to broadcast whether an enhanced PDCCH / SS / CORESET is used or which enhanced PDCCH / SS / CORESET is used. For indication of whether an enhanced PDCCH / SS / CORESET or PDCCH / SS / CORESET with additional parameter is used, an enabling / disabling indication may be used. For indication of which enhanced PDCCH / SS / CORESET is used, a plurality number of enhanced PDCCH / SS / CORESET configurations may be defined in the standard. Each enhanced PDCCH / SS / CORESET configuration may correspond to an index. Network node may indicate which enhanced PDCCH / SS / CORESET configuration is used by indicating the index. When above indication is absent, legacy PDCCH / SS / CORESET configuration is used. For example, a table is defined to illustrate different PDCCH / SS / CORESET configurations as following.

[0106] When normal PDCCH / SS / CORESET is utilized, i.e., no coverage enhancement, Ienh may be absent or Ienh=0 in the MIB / SIB for common PDCCH configuration. When enhanced PDCCH / SS / CORESET is utilized, Ienh=1, Ienh=2, or Ienh=3 may be indicated in the MIB / SIB for common PDCCH configuration.

[0107] Besides completely network determined PDCCH / SS / CORESET configuration, UE involved PDCCH / SS / CORESET configuration may also be considered. For example, the network may configure a conservative enhancement parameters, e.g., large repetition number. UE may find that no need of large repetition and suggest a smaller repetition number or no repetition to network. For example, initially the UE is in poor channel condition and a large repetition number is configured. After a period of time, the UE channel condition may be better due to UE or network node mobility. The UE may suggest a smaller repetition number or no repetition. For example, the UE may report assistance information to the network node. Network node may configure the PDCCH / SS / CORESET based on assistance information from UE. The assistance information may comprise reference signal receive power (RSRP) , timing advance (TA) , elevation angle, or UE location.

[0108] In some embodiments, the UE may report at least one of: a duration of CORESET / SS, a number of parts of a PDCCH / DCI, a size of a part of a PDCCH / DCI, a repetition number of PDCCH, an RSRP, a TA, an elevation angle, a UE location, a capability / request of PDCCH repetition. In some embodiments, a plurality of PDCCH / SS / CORESET configurations may be configured by network (e.g., via MIB / SIB broadcast) or predefined. The UE may report the selected / suggested PDCCH / SS / CORESET configuration (e.g., by reporting the index or ordinal of the configuration) . The report may be per PDCCH type. The report may be via at least one of: a MAC CE, a MAC subheader, an RRC signaling, msg3, msg5. For capability / request report, at least one state of LCID / eLCID may be used. In some embodiments, a new MAC subheader is defined and present of the MAC subheader means capable / request of PDCCH repetition.

[0109] It should be understood that one or more features from the above / following implementation examples are not exclusive to the specific implementation examples, but can be combined in any manner (e.g., in any priority and / or order, concurrently or otherwise) .

[0110] FIG. 10 illustrates a flow diagram of a method 1000 for random access with reduced signaling. The method 1000 may be implemented using any one or more of the components and devices detailed herein in conjunction with FIGs. 1–9. In overview, the method 1000 may be performed by a UE, in some embodiments. Additional, fewer, or different operations may be performed in the method 1000 depending on the embodiment. At least one aspect of the operations is directed to a system, method, apparatus, or a computer-readable medium.

[0112] In some embodiments, the duration of the at least one resource can be the sum of the duration and the offset of duration. In some embodiments, the duration of the at least one resource can be the duration multiplied by the scaling factor of duration. In some embodiments, the duration of the CORESET / SS can be greater than a threshold. The CORESET / SS can be across two or more time-domain resources based on the duration of the CORESET / SS and an available CORESET / SS duration for each time-domain resource. In some embodiments, the threshold can be indicated by the network node or predefined. In some embodiments, a number of the two or more time-domain resources may equal to a smallest integer greater than or equal to the duration of the CORESET / SS divided by the available CORESET / SS duration for each time-domain resource.

[0113] In some embodiments, the downlink control channel can be divided into a plurality of parts and transmitted in a plurality of CORESETs or SSs. The plurality of parts of the downlink control channel can be decoded separately by the wireless communication device. Each of the plurality of parts of the downlink control channel may comprise one or more of: a number of the plurality of parts; an ordinal number of each of the  plurality of parts; information of a following part of the plurality of parts; information of a previous part of the plurality of parts; or combination information of the plurality of parts. In some embodiments, the information of a following part may comprise at least one of a time resource, a frequency resource, or a time offset of the following part. The information of a previous part may comprise at least one of a time resource, a frequency resource, or a time offset of the previous part. The combination information may comprise at least one of: a flag or ID of the downlink control channel; or a time resource, a frequency resource, or a time offset of the initial part.

[0114] In some embodiments, the downlink control channel can be repeated in the repetition number of consecutive time-domain resources. In some embodiments, the downlink control channel can be repeated in CORESETs / SSs of the repetition number of consecutive time-domain resources. In some embodimentsc, the downlink control channel can be repeated according to the repetition number and the periodicity. In some embodiments, the downlink control channel can be repeated according to the repetition pattern.

[0115] In some embodiments, the downlink control channel is repeated in the number of consecutive or available resources for downlink control channel. In some embodiments, a position of the DMRS can be indicated by a first higher layer parameter and a second higher layer parameter. The first higher layer parameter may indicate a position of a first DMRS and the second higher layer parameter indicates an additional number of DMRS. In some embodiments, at least one candidate value of the second higher layer parameter can be supported as at least one certain candidate value of the first higher layer parameter is indicated. At least one at least one additional DMRS can be omitted as a configuration of the first higher layer parameter, the second higher layer parameter, or the PDSCH duration is indicated.

[0116] In some embodiments, a position of a first DMRS can be delayed according to a first higher layer parameter indicating a duration of the at least one resource and a second higher layer parameter indicating a nominal position of the first DMRS. In some embodiments, the function may comprise at least one of: configuring duration of the at least one resource to be larger than a value; delaying a position of a Demodulation Reference Signal (DMRS) ; configuring a CORESET / SS to be across two or more time-domain resources; transmitting a plurality of parts of the downlink control channel; or repeating the downlink control channel.

[0117] In some embodiments, the condition information may comprise at least one of: a signal quality threshold; an elevation angle threshold; a distance threshold; or a timing advance threshold. The function can be enabled in response to at least one of: a signal quality is larger than the signal quality threshold; an elevation angle is lower than the elevation angle threshold; a distance between wireless communication device and network node is larger than the distance threshold; or a timing advance is larger than the timing advance threshold.

[0118] In some embodiments, a plurality of sets of indications can be indicated. An indication can be for a type of the downlink control channel. The type of downlink control channel can be included in the indication. The indication can be via at least one of: a master information block (MIB) broadcast; a system information block (SIB) broadcast; a dedicated radio resource control (RRC) signaling; a media access control control element (MAC CE) signaling; or a downlink control information (DCI) signaling. In some embodiments, the wireless communication device may send an indication to the network node. The indication may comprise at least one of: a duration of CORESET / SS, a number of parts of a PDCCH / DCI, a size of a part of a PDCCH / DCI,  a repetition number of PDCCH, a signal quality, a timing advance, an elevation angle, a UE location, or a capability / request of PDCCH repetition. In some embodiments, the indication can be via at least one of: a MAC CE, a MAC subheader, an RRC signaling, a msg3, or a msg5.

[0119] In some embodiments, a network node (e.g., a base station (BS) ) may send a downlink control channel in at least one resource to a wireless communication device (e.g., a user equipment (UE) ) .

[0120] While various embodiments of the present solution have been described above, it should be understood that they have been presented by way of example only, and not by way of limitation. Likewise, the various diagrams may depict an example architectural or configuration, which are provided to enable persons of ordinary skill in the art to understand example features and functions of the present solution. Such persons would understand, however, that the solution is not restricted to the illustrated example architectures or configurations, but can be implemented using a variety of alternative architectures and configurations. Additionally, as would be understood by persons of ordinary skill in the art, one or more features of one embodiment can be combined with one or more features of another embodiment described herein. Thus, the breadth and scope of the present disclosure should not be limited by any of the above-described illustrative embodiments.

[0121] It is also understood that any reference to an element herein using a designation such as "first, " "second, " and so forth does not generally limit the quantity or order of those elements. Rather, these designations can be used herein as a convenient means of distinguishing between two or more elements or instances of an element. Thus, a reference to first and second elements does not mean that only two elements can be employed, or that the first element must precede the second element in some manner.

[0122] Additionally, a person having ordinary skill in the art would understand that information and signals can be represented using any of a variety of different technologies and techniques. For example, data, instructions, commands, information, signals, bits and symbols, for example, which may be referenced in the above description can be represented by voltages, currents, electromagnetic waves, magnetic fields or particles, optical fields or particles, or any combination thereof.

[0123] A person of ordinary skill in the art would further appreciate that any of the various illustrative logical blocks, modules, processors, means, circuits, methods and functions described in connection with the aspects disclosed herein can be implemented by electronic hardware (e.g., a digital implementation, an analog implementation, or a combination of the two) , firmware, various forms of program or design code incorporating instructions (which can be referred to herein, for convenience, as "software" or a "software module) , or any combination of these techniques. To clearly illustrate this interchangeability of hardware, firmware and software, various illustrative components, blocks, modules, circuits, and steps have been described above generally in terms of their functionality. Whether such functionality is implemented as hardware, firmware or software, or a combination of these techniques, depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system. Skilled artisans can implement the described functionality in various ways for each particular application, but such implementation decisions do not cause a departure from the scope of the present disclosure.

[0124] Furthermore, a person of ordinary skill in the art would understand that various illustrative logical blocks, modules, devices, components and circuits described herein can be implemented within or performed by an integrated circuit (IC) that can include a general purpose processor, a digital signal processor (DSP) , an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , a field programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device, or any combination thereof. The logical blocks, modules, and circuits can further include antennas and / or transceivers to communicate with various components within the network or within the device. A general purpose processor can be a microprocessor, but in the alternative, the processor can be any conventional processor, controller, or state machine. A processor can also be implemented as a combination of computing devices, e.g., a combination of a DSP and a microprocessor, a plurality of microprocessors, one or more microprocessors in conjunction with a DSP core, or any other suitable configuration to perform the functions described herein.

[0125] If implemented in software, the functions can be stored as one or more instructions or code on a computer-readable medium. Thus, the steps of a method or algorithm disclosed herein can be implemented as software stored on a computer-readable medium. Computer-readable media includes both computer storage media and communication media including any medium that can be enabled to transfer a computer program or code from one place to another. A storage media can be any available media that can be accessed by a computer. By way of example, and not limitation, such computer-readable media can include RAM, ROM, EEPROM, CD-ROM or other optical disk storage, magnetic disk storage or other magnetic storage devices, or any other medium that can be used to store desired program code in the form of instructions or data structures and that can be accessed by a computer.

[0126] In this document, the term "module" as used herein, refers to software, firmware, hardware, and any combination of these elements for performing the associated functions described herein. Additionally, for purpose of discussion, the various modules are described as discrete modules; however, as would be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art, two or more modules may be combined to form a single module that performs the associated functions according embodiments of the present solution.

[0127] Additionally, memory or other storage, as well as communication components, may be employed in embodiments of the present solution. It will be appreciated that, for clarity purposes, the above description has described embodiments of the present solution with reference to different functional units and processors. However, it will be apparent that any suitable distribution of functionality between different functional units, processing logic elements or domains may be used without detracting from the present solution. For example, functionality illustrated to be performed by separate processing logic elements, or controllers, may be performed by the same processing logic element, or controller. Hence, references to specific functional units are only references to a suitable means for providing the described functionality, rather than indicative of a strict logical or physical structure or organization.
