Description

Reel seats and fishing rods

[0001] CROSS REFERENCE This application claims priority to Japanese Patent Application No. 2024-052357 (filed March 27, 2024), the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety. The present invention relates to a reel seat and a fishing rod.

[0002] For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a reel seat for fixing a fishing reel. The reel seat includes a reel seat body with a fixed hood, a movable hood that is movable in the axial direction relative to the reel seat body, and a nut (operating part) that moves the movable hood. The reel can be attached to or detached from the fishing rod by clamping or releasing the reel leg of the reel seat between the fixed hood and the movable hood.

[0003] Patent Application No. 2017-157532

[0004] However, because the operating part is attached to the front or rear of the reel seat in an exposed position, the hand or finger comes into contact with the operating part when gripping the reel or casting. Repeated contact can loosen the operating part, causing the reel to rattle or come off. Furthermore, conventional reel seats have operating parts made up of large screws and parts that can be easily attached and detached by hand at fishing spots, resulting in a complex structure and heavy weight.

[0005] The present invention has been made to solve the above-mentioned problems, and aims to provide a reel seat that can stably maintain the fixed state of the reel, and a fishing rod equipped with the same.

[0006] The present invention is characterized by comprising a reel seat body through which a fishing rod body is inserted and which has a fixed hood into which one side of a reel leg is inserted; a floating top which is formed so as to be movable in the forward and backward directions relative to the reel seat body and which can fix the other side of the reel leg; a rotation operation member which has a diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the reel seat body, is threaded onto the floating top and can be rotated circumferentially by a tool; and a covering member which faces the reel seat body and is spaced axially apart and covers the outer periphery of the rotation operation member, and which converts rotation of the rotation operation member into forward and backward movement of the floating top to attach and detach the reel leg.

[0007] According to the present invention, the rotation operation member for moving the floating top has a diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the reel seat and is covered with a covering member except for a portion thereof. This makes it possible to avoid contact with the rotation operation member when gripping the reel or during casting operations, preventing the reel from loosening and stably fixing the reel. Furthermore, a tool can be inserted between the reel seat body and the covering member to move the floating top via the rotation operation member. Furthermore, because the rotation operation member has a diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the reel seat, it is possible to achieve a lighter and more compact design.

[0008] It is also preferable that a stopper be provided at an end of the reel seat body to restrict axial movement of the rotation operation member.

[0009] According to the present invention, the axial movement of the rotation operation member is restricted, and the floating top can be moved accurately.

[0010] It is also preferable that the covering member has the same outer diameter as the reel seat body and is a cover that covers the outer periphery of the rotation operation member.

[0011] According to the present invention, the outer periphery of the rotation operation member can be covered and the gripping ability can be improved.

[0012] It is also preferable that the reel seat body has a recessed groove portion for movably accommodating the floating piece, and that the floating piece be detachable from the reel seat body.

[0013] According to the present invention, maintenance and customization of the floating top can be easily performed.

[0014] It is also preferable that a loosening prevention cover be provided between the reel seat and the covering member.

[0015] According to the present invention, by providing the loosening prevention cover, it is possible to further prevent the rotation operation member from becoming loose due to an erroneous operation.

[0016] According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a reel seat that can stably maintain the fixed state of the reel, and a fishing rod equipped with the reel seat.

[0018] <First embodiment> A first embodiment of a fishing rod according to the present invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the description of the drawings, the same elements are given the same reference numerals, and duplicate descriptions will be omitted as appropriate.

[0019] As shown in Figure 1, a fishing rod 1 according to this embodiment includes a rod body 2, a reel seat 3, and a grip 4. The fishing rod 1 has the rod body 2 inserted inside the reel seat 3 and the grip 4.

[0020] The rod body 2 is a cylindrical member made of resin or wood that forms the main body of the fishing rod 1. The rod body 2 may be made up of a single piece, or may have a jointed structure made up of multiple pieces.

[0021] The reel seat 3 is a cylindrical member to which the reel R is attached and detached. The reel seat 3 includes a reel seat body 10, a floating piece 20, a rotation operation member 30, a covering member 40, and a stopper 50.

[0022] The reel seat body 10 includes a center portion 11, a front portion 12, a rear portion 13, a rear cylindrical portion 14, a trigger 15, and an inner cylinder 16. There are no particular restrictions on the material of the reel seat body 10, but in this embodiment, it is formed of resin in consideration of lightweight design. The center portion 11 is the portion that forms the axial center of the reel seat 3. A flat reel leg mounting portion 11a is formed on the upper surface of the center portion 11. The reel leg mounting portion 11a is the portion on which the reel leg R1 is mounted.

[0023] The front portion 12 is a portion that constitutes the front end of the reel seat 3. As shown in Figure 1, a fixed hood 12a is formed on the front portion 12. The fixed hood 12a is a hole that opens rearward, and is the portion into which the front end (one side) of the reel leg R1 is inserted.

[0024] As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the rear portion 13 constitutes the rear side of the reel seat 3. The rear portion 13 is formed with a larger diameter than the central portion 11. A hollow portion (concave groove portion) 13a is formed in the upper part of the rear portion 13. The hollow portion 13a is connected in the front-to-rear direction. A floating top 20 (described later) is inserted into the hollow portion 13a so as to be movable in the direction of the axis C, and is disposed so as to protrude from the front of the hollow portion 13a toward the reel leg mounting portion 11a. A protruding portion 13c that protrudes toward the axis C is formed on the inner peripheral surface of the rear end of the rear portion 13. The protruding portion 13c is a portion that restricts the rearward movement of the floating top 20.

[0025] As shown in Figure 2, the rear cylindrical portion 14 protrudes rearward from the rear portion 13 and is a generally cylindrical portion with a notched upper portion. The rear cylindrical portion 14 includes a tubular portion 14a and a recessed portion 14b. The tubular portion 14a is a tubular portion into which a rotation operating member 30 (described later) is inserted. The recessed portion 14b is a groove formed in the circumferential direction and recessed toward the axis C. A stopper 50 is fitted into the recessed portion 14b.

[0026] The trigger 15 is a part that protrudes downward from the bottom of the reel seat main body 10. For example, operability can be improved by holding the trigger 15 between the middle finger and ring finger. The trigger 15 may be omitted. The inner tube 16 is a cylindrical hollow portion formed inside the reel seat main body 10. The fishing rod body 2 is inserted inside the inner tube 16. The inner peripheral surface 16c of the inner tube 16 and the outer peripheral surface 2b of the fishing rod body 2 are bonded with an adhesive.

[0027] As shown in FIG. 2 , the floating top 20 is a plate-shaped member inserted into the hollow portion 13a of the rear portion 13. The floating top 20 includes a thick portion 21 and a thin portion 22. The thick portion 21 is formed thick on the front side of the floating top 20 and includes a hood portion 23. The hood portion 23 is a hole that opens forward and is a portion into which the rear end (the other side) of the reel leg R1 is inserted. The thin portion 22 is continuous with the rear side of the thick portion 21 and is formed thinner than the thick portion 21. A male thread is formed on the outer peripheral surface of the thin portion 22. The male thread of the thin portion 22 is a portion that screws into a female thread formed on the inner peripheral surface 31 of the rotation operating member 30, which will be described later. The thin portion 22 is formed to be curved so as to be convex radially outward. As shown in FIG. 3 , the thin-walled portion 22 is configured so that the thin-walled portion 22 faces the rotation operating member 30 from the cut-out portion at the top of the rear cylindrical portion 14 .

[0028] The rotation operation member 30 has a cylindrical shape and a female thread formed on its inner circumferential surface. As shown in FIG. 2 , the rotation operation member 30 is threadedly engaged with the male threads of the rear cylindrical portion 14 and the thin-walled portion 22. The outer diameter of the rotation operation member 30 is smaller than the outer diameter of the rear portion 13 of the reel seat body 10. As shown in FIG. 3 , the outer circumferential surface of the rotation operation member 30 is formed with recesses 32 recessed inward. In this embodiment, the recesses 32 are arranged at equal intervals along the circumferential direction, totaling three. The recesses 32 are configured to engage with the protrusions 71 of the tool 70, as shown in FIG. 4 . With the protrusions 71 engaged with the recesses 32, the rotation operation member 30 can be rotated by moving the tool 70 clockwise or counterclockwise. The shape and number of the recesses 32 can be appropriately changed depending on the shape of the tool 70.

[0029] The covering member 40 is a cover that covers the outer periphery of the rotation operation member 30. The material of the covering member 40 is not particularly limited, and it may be formed of, for example, resin, rubber, or the like. The covering member 40 faces the rear portion 13 of the reel seat body 10 with a gap U therebetween. In other words, the covering member 40 faces the reel seat body 10 at an axial distance. The width of the gap U is preferably narrow enough to prevent contact with the hand, but large enough to allow access to the tool 70. The gap U is also preferably positioned in a location that is difficult for fingers to reach when using the fishing rod 1. The width of the gap U is, for example, approximately 1 to 3 mm. The covering member 40 has a hollow cylindrical shape and is open at the front side. The rear side of the covering member 40 is formed with a wall portion 41 that abuts the grip 4 and an opening 42 through which the fishing rod body 2 is inserted. A hollow portion 43 with a circular cross section is formed inside the covering member 40, and the rotation operation member 30 is disposed in the hollow portion 43. The outer diameter of the covering member 40 is the same as the outer diameter of the rear portion 13 of the reel seat body 10 and the front side of the grip 4. In other words, the outer peripheral surface 13b of the rear portion 13, the outer peripheral surface 44 of the covering member 40, and the outer peripheral surface 4b of the grip 4 are approximately flush with each other.

[0030] As shown in Figure 1, the grip 4 is made of a flexible material and is the part that the user holds. The grip 4 is made of a flexible material such as natural cork, artificial cork, or the foam resin EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer). The grip 4 gradually tapers in diameter toward the rod base and assumes a cylindrical shape. A hollow section with a circular cross section is formed inside the grip 4, and the rod body 2 is inserted into this hollow section. The inner circumferential surface of the hollow section of the grip 4 and the outer circumferential surface of the rod body 2 are bonded with an adhesive.

[0031] As shown in FIG. 2 , the stopper 50 is a plate-like, approximately ring-shaped member that fits into the recess 14b of the rear cylindrical portion 14. The stopper 50 is formed, for example, from a resin material or a metal material. The stopper 50 faces the rear end of the rotation operating member 30 and prevents the rotation operating member 30 from slipping out rearward. As a result, the rotation operating member 30 is sandwiched between the rear portion 13 and the stopper 50, limiting its movement in the direction of the axis C. While the stopper 50 may be configured to abut against the floating top 20 when the floating top 20 is moved to its rearmost position, in this embodiment, a notch is provided in the upper portion of the stopper 50 to prevent the stopper 50 from abutting against the floating top 20. This allows for a wider range of motion for the floating top 20.

[0032] Next, a method of using the reel seat 3 according to this embodiment will be described. As shown in FIG. 4, a tool 70 is inserted into the gap U, and the convex portion 71 of the tool 70 is engaged with the concave portion 32. When the tool 70 is rotated in one direction (forward), the rotation operating member 30 rotates circumferentially, and the threaded floating top 20 moves forward. When the floating top 20 moves forward, the hood portion 23 of the floating top 20 fits into the rear end of the reel leg R1. This allows the reel leg R1 to be fixed (reel fixed state).

[0033] On the other hand, by rotating the rotation operation member 30 in the other direction (reverse direction) with the tool 70, the threaded floating top 20 moves rearward, thereby releasing the locked state of the reel leg R1 (removal state of the reel). As shown in Figure 2, if the rotation operation member 30 continues to be rotated in the other direction (reverse direction), the thick portion 21 of the floating top 20 abuts against the protruding portion 13c of the rear portion 13 and stops, preventing the rotation operation member 30 from being rotated too far.

[0034] Furthermore, if the rotation operating member 30 is rotated continuously in one direction (forward direction) without the reel leg R1 installed, the floating top 20 can be removed from the reel seat body 10.

[0035] According to the present embodiment described above, the rotation operation member 30 for moving the floating top 20 has a diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the reel seat 3 and is covered with the covering member 40. This prevents the hand or arm from coming into contact with the rotation operation member 30 when gripping the reel R or during casting, preventing the reel R from loosening and ensuring stable fixation of the reel R. Furthermore, the rotation operation member 30 can be rotated using a tool 70 through the gap U between the reel seat body 10 and the covering member 40 to move the floating top 20. Furthermore, because the rotation operation member 30 has a diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the reel seat 3, the member can be made smaller and lighter.

[0036] In addition, a stopper 50 that restricts movement of the rotation operation member 30 in the direction of the axis C is provided on the rear cylindrical portion 14 formed at the end of the reel seat body 10. In other words, since the rotation operation member 30 is sandwiched between the rear portion 13 and the stopper 50, movement in the direction of the axis C is restricted, and the floating top 20 can be moved accurately.

[0037] The covering member 40 has the same diameter as the rear portion 13 of the reel seat body 10, and is attached as a cover that covers the outer periphery of the rotation operation member 30. Since the covering member 40 has the same diameter as the rear portion 13, it is easy to grip.

[0038] The rear portion 13 of the reel seat body 10 is provided with a hollow portion (recessed groove portion) 13a for movably storing the floating top 20. The floating top 20 is detachable from the reel seat body 10. This allows for easy maintenance and customization of the floating top 20.

[0039] Furthermore, the thin portion 22 of the floating top 20 is formed thinner than the thick portion 21. Therefore, even if the rotation operation member 30 is engaged with the engagement portion and the covering member 40 is provided on the outside thereof, the diameter of the area to be gripped by the hand can be reduced, improving the gripping ability.

[0040] In this embodiment, a cover is provided as the covering member 40, but for example, a part of the grip 4 may form the covering member and cover the rotation operation member 30. Furthermore, although the stopper 50 is provided, the stopper 50 may be omitted, and for example, the rotation operation member 30 may be configured to directly abut against the wall portion 41 of the covering member 40 to prevent rearward movement. Furthermore, the stopper 50 may be substituted with another member.

[0041] <First Modification of Rotation Operation Member> Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view showing a first modification of the rotation operation member and tool. The rotation operation member 30A according to the first modification differs from the first embodiment in that no recess is provided on the outer circumferential surface. In addition, the tool 70A has a curved portion 71A shaped to fit along the lower half of the outer circumferential surface of the rotation operation member 30A. The curved portion 71A of the tool 70 may be fitted into the rotation operation member 30A, causing the rotation operation member 30A to rotate by frictional force.

[0042] <Second Modification of Rotation Operation Member> Figure 6 is a cross-sectional view showing a second modification of the rotation operation member and tool. The rotation operation member 30B according to the second modification differs from the above-described embodiment in that a single recess 31B is provided on the outer circumferential surface. The tool 70B also includes a curved portion 71B shaped to fit along the lower half of the outer circumferential surface of the rotation operation member 30B, and a protrusion 72B that protrudes from one end of the curved portion 71B toward the central axis and fits into the recess 31B. With the rotation operation member 30B configured in this way, the recess 31B and the protrusion 72B fit together when the rotation operation member 30B is rotated, allowing the rotation operation member 30B to be tightly fastened.

[0043] <Third Modification of Rotation Operation Member> Figure 7 is a cross-sectional view showing a third modification of the rotation operation member and tool. The rotation operation member 30C according to the third modification differs from the above-described embodiment in that two recesses 31C curved inward are provided on the outer circumferential surface. Furthermore, the tool 70C has curved portions 71C shaped along the lower half of the outer circumferential surface of the rotation operation member 30C, and protrusions 72C, 72C positioned and shaped to fit the recesses 31C. This configuration creates a lock-like relationship between the tool 70C and the rotation operation member 30C, making it difficult to attach or detach the reel R with a tool other than the tool 70C. In other words, security can be improved.

[0044] <Fourth Modification of Rotation Operation Member> Figure 8 is a cross-sectional view showing a fourth modification of the rotation operation member and tool. The rotation operation member 30D according to the fourth modification differs from the first embodiment in that a finely textured portion 31D is formed on the entire outer periphery. The textured portion 31D can be formed, for example, by knurling. The tool 70D also includes a curved portion 71D shaped to fit along the lower half of the outer periphery of the rotation operation member 30D. The inner periphery of the curved portion 71D is processed to engage with the textured portion 31D. The rotation operation member 30D can also be easily rotated using this tool 70D.

[0045] Second Embodiment Next, a fishing rod according to a second embodiment of the present invention will be described. As shown in FIG. 8 , the second embodiment differs from the first embodiment in that a loosening prevention cover 60 is disposed in the gap U between the rear portion 13 of the reel seat body 10A and the covering member 40. The loosening prevention cover 60 has an elongated rectangular parallelepiped shape and is formed of a soft material such as a resin material. In this embodiment, the loosening prevention cover 60 is disposed on the upper side of the gap U, following the shape of the gap U. Note that, as shown in FIG. 9 , a loosening prevention cover 60B may also be disposed on the lower side of the gap U, following the shape of the gap U.

[0046] From the standpoint of gripping ease, it is preferable that the loosening prevention cover 60 not protrude beyond the outer peripheral surface 4b of the grip 4 and the outer peripheral surface 13b of the rear portion 13 when fitted into the gap U. In this embodiment, only one loosening prevention cover 60 is provided, but multiple covers may be provided along the circumferential direction of the gap U. Furthermore, while the loosening prevention covers 60 and 60B are designed to expose a portion of the rotation operation member 30, a ring-shaped member such as an O-ring may be used to cover the entire circumference of the gap U. In such a case, when attaching or detaching the reel R, the tool 70 can be inserted through the gap U by temporarily removing the ring-shaped member.

[0047] The reel seat described above can achieve substantially the same effects as the first embodiment. Furthermore, by covering a portion of the rotation operation member 30 with the loosening prevention cover 60, 60B, the rotation operation member 30 can be more effectively prevented from loosening due to accidental operation. Furthermore, by providing the loosening prevention cover 60, 60B in the gap U, foreign matter is prevented from entering the gap U, and the gap U becomes less noticeable when gripped, improving grippability. Furthermore, by using a ring-shaped member such as an O-ring as the loosening prevention cover, these effects can be further enhanced.

[0048] Although the embodiments of the present invention have been described above, appropriate design modifications are possible within the scope of the invention. For example, although an up-locking reel seat has been exemplified in this embodiment, a down-locking reel seat may also be used. In this case, the fixed hood is formed at the rear end of the reel seat body 10, and the floating top 20, rotation operating member 30, covering member 40, etc. are arranged at the front end. Furthermore, although a double-axis reel has been exemplified in this embodiment, the present invention may also be applied to a spinning reel.
