Description
[0001]5 “KIT FOR PROMOTING HAIR GROWTH” TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION: The present invention relates to a kit for promoting hair growth. More 10 particularly, the present invention relates to a kit for promoting hair growth and preventing hair loss, comprising (i) a first composition; (ii) a second composition; (iii) a third composition; (iv) a fourth composition; and (v) an instruction manual. The present invention further relates to a method of using the kit for promoting hair growth and preventing hair loss. 15 BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART: Men and women around the world suffer from hair thinning and hair loss (alopecia). It is one of the major causes of concern for people all around the world. Not only does it affect a person's psychological well-being, it also lowers 20 their self-confidence. Hair loss can be either temporary or permanent and can affect just the scalp or the whole body. There are several types of hair, including terminal hair, vellus hair, and deformed terminal hair such as eyebrows and eyelashes. The most common types of hair 25 loss include male or female pattern baldness, alopecia areata, and telogen effluvium. As alopecia progresses, a transition occurs in areas approaching baldness, during which the hair itself changes from terminal to vellus type. It is known to reduce the size of hair follicles. 30 Hair loss can be caused by a variety of factors such as decreased hair root metabolic function, decreased hair function, reduced blood circulation, Alopecia Areata (AA), hormonal imbalance, drug side effects, stress, genetic factors and various nutritional deficiencies. Certain medications including chemotherapy, HIV / AIDS and hypothyroidism can also cause hair loss. Hair loss may also be 5 induced due to unhealthy lifestyle, heat or chemical hair treatments or textural inflictions to hair due to aggressive and repeated hair coloring and hair styling. Excessive styling and hair treatments can also cause hair loss. Examples of extreme styling include tight braids, hair weaves, cornrows, chemical relaxers to 10 straighten hair, hot oil treatments, or any kind of harsh chemical or high heat. Such practices affect the hair root, so hair may not grow back. Frequent shampooing, blow-drying and styling of hair causes a lot of breakage and damage to hair, which may lead to hair loss and hair thinning. Repeated use of 15 heated styling tools, pulling of hair (such as during blow-drying or making a tight ponytail), and rubbing the scalp too hard can all lead to hair loss. Perms, relaxers, and hair dyes can also cause hair loss due to damage. Women suffer from hormone-related hair loss, or female pattern baldness. This 20 hair loss occurs when the hair follicle shrinks over time too much to regrow new hair. Symptoms of female pattern baldness may include hair spreading in the middle and coarsening on the face. In many cases, this type of hair loss can be genetic. 25 Medicinal treatments for alopecia include the drugs like Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride). Rogaine has been shown to reduce hair loss and promote hair growth in up to 10% of men with male pattern baldness. However, treatment with it needs to be done regularly and has many side effects. The treatment is also very expensive. Finasteride is the active ingredient in Propecia (a trademark of 30 Merck & Co.) in tablet form and should be taken regularly. Alopecia areata can be treated with steroid injections into the affected area, but these must be repeated frequently to be effective. Other treatments include Surgical techniques such as Self-grafting or transplants, Flap surgery, Scalp 35 reductions and Scalp expansion and extension and Non- surgical techniques such 5 as additions of hair- bearing devices that can consist of human hair, synthetic fibre or a combination of both. These attachments are attached by a variety of techniques, and either existing hair or skin can be the fixation site. US5750108 discloses a method for hair treatment and a kit for invigorating hair 10 growth. The hair treatment kit comprises a first treatment solution comprising tea tree oil, a second treatment solution comprising chlorine dioxide, an acidic solution having a pH effective to release the oxygen from said chlorine dioxide in said second treatment solution, and a third treatment solution comprising saw palmetto berry extract. 15 WO2005004984A1 discloses a kit, device and a method for the treatment of a hair growth disorder, wherein the kit comprises: at least one formulation comprising a hair growth modulating agent; and at least one electrically powered device for promoting delivery of the hair growth modulating agent into and / or onto the body 20 area. US8197856 discloses kit for promoting hair growth on areas of the scalp that has been affected by fungal infections. The kit comprises of a first powdered mixture and three liquid compositions. The elements of the kit are applied to the scalp of 25 an individual experiencing hair loss due to fungi. The hair growth kits available in existing prior arts are expensive and have shown unsatisfactory results. The results also are short-lived and carry the risk of unwanted side effects. 30 Therefore, there is a need in the art to provide a kit for promoting hair growth that can improve hair growth, prevent hair loss, strengthen hair follicles and hydrate the hair and which is economical and easy to apply. 5 Hence, the present inventors have come up with a kit for prevention of early hair loss and promotion of hair growth. OBJECT OF INVENTION: 10 It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a kit for promotion of hair growth. Another object of the invention is to provide a kit for promotion of hair growth, prevention of hair loss and further strengthening and nourishment of hair. The said 15 kit comprises constituents which are cost effective, non-toxic, biocompatible and hence favor prolonged use with minimal to no side effects. The average number of hair pulled at baseline was 10.5, which reduced to 4 at 3 months and 2.35 at 6 months. Indicating a negative hair-pull test post-therapy. 2) Increase in hair growth: Global photographic assessment of subjects 15 undergoing therapy was conducted at baseline, 3 months and 6 months. The global photography assessment score was 4.5 at baseline, which gradually increased to 6 at 3 months and 8 at 6 months. 3) Increase in terminal hair count: Videomicroscopic assessment was 20 conducted. There was significant increase in terminal hair count and decrease in the vellus hair count in 82% of the subjects. 4) Hair Shaft Diameter: The average hair shaft diameter for each patient, taken at 15 cm from the glabella, 57% patients had an increase in the width 25 of their hairs. Paired t-testing indicated that after 3 months, patients had an average hair shaft diameter that was 20 um wider and 50 um wider after 6 months than at baseline. This was statistically significant. 5) Restoration of shiny hair and hydrated hair: On self-evaluation, 84% of 30 the patients reported restoration of shiny and bouncy hair and 76% of the patients reported decrease in dryness of hair.
