Content output device and control method therefor

Abstract

A content output device is disclosed. The content output device comprises: a video output unit; an audio output unit; a communication unit for communicating with an external device that outputs content; a memory in which ambient video data is stored; and a processor which, when at least one of information on a program that is executed on the external device to output the content and information on the external device is received via the communication unit, operates, on the basis of the received information, in one of a first mode of disabling the video output unit and controlling the audio output unit to output audio included in the content, and a second mode of controlling the video output unit to output an ambient video on the basis of the ambient video data and controlling the audio output unit to output audio included in the content.
