AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing wireless communication systems face challenges in handling data collected by user equipment (UE) that has not been transmitted due to mobility events, which is crucial for AI/ML model training.

Method used

The UE receives a configuration for data collection from a first base station, collects data associated with the first cell, and transmits an indication to a second base station, allowing the second base station to determine if the collected data should be transmitted, ensuring data availability during mobility events.

Benefits of technology

This approach ensures that data collected by the UE is effectively transferred to the appropriate base station, preventing data loss and enabling continuous AI/ML model training.

Abstract

Various aspects of the present disclosure relate to data collection during mobility. In one aspect, a UE receives a configuration for data collection for AI or ML model training from a first base station. The UE collects, based on the configuration, data associated with a first cell associated with the first base station. In turn, the UE transmits a first indication to a second base station. The second base station is different from the first base station. The first indication indicates that the collected data associated with the first cell is available.

Description

DATA COLLECTION DURING MOBILITY EVENTSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to wireless communications, and more specifically to user equipment (UE) , base stations and methods for supporting data collection during mobility.BACKGROUND

[0002] A wireless communications system may include one or multiple network communication devices, such as base stations, which may be otherwise known as an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. Each network communication devices, such as a base station may support wireless communications for one or multiple user communication devices, which may be otherwise known as user equipment (UE) , or other suitable terminology. The wireless communications system may support wireless communications with one or multiple user communication devices by utilizing resources of the wireless communication system (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) . Additionally, the wireless communications system may support wireless communications across various radio access technologies including third generation (3G) radio access technology, fourth generation (4G) radio access technology, fifth generation (5G) radio access technology, among other suitable radio access technologies beyond 5G (e.g., sixth generation (6G) ) .

[0003] A new Work Item on artificial intelligence (AI)  / machine learning (ML) for new radio (NR) air interface has been approved in the third generation partnership project (3GPP) . Data collection is one of components of AI / ML life cycle management (LCM) . The data collection for network-side model training is needed for, e.g. AI / ML based beam management. Regarding network-side data collection, 3GPP has agreed the following: for gNB centric data collection and Operation, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) centric data collection, reporting multiple instances of logged layer 1 (L1) measurement result from a UE to a gNB via a radio resource control (RRC) message as configured by the gNB is an optional feature.

[0059] It shall be understood that although the terms “first” and “second” or the like may be used herein to describe various elements, these elements should not be limited by these terms. These terms are only used to distinguish one element from another element. For example, a first element could also be termed as a second element, and similarly, a second element could also be termed as a first element, without departing from the scope of embodiments. As used herein, the term “and / or” includes any and all combinations of one or more of the listed terms.

[0060] The terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting of example embodiments. As used herein, the singular forms “a” , “an” and “the” are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. It will be further understood that the terms “comprises” , “comprising” , “has” , “having” , “includes” and / or “including” , when used herein, specify the presence of stated features, elements, and / or components etc., but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, elements, components and / or combinations thereof.

[0061] As described above, when mobility events occur, the UE may have data that has been collected but not transmitted to the network. Hereinafter, the data that has been collected but not transmitted to the network is also referred to as “available collected data” . Thus, how to handle the data collected but not transmitted in mobility events needs to be solved.

[0062] In view of the above, the present disclosure provides a solution that supports data collection during mobility. In this solution, a UE receives a configuration for data collection for AI or ML model training from a first base station. The UE collects, based on the configuration, data associated with a first cell associated with the first base station. In turn, the UE transmits a first indication to a second base station. The second base station is different from the first base station. The first indication indicates that the collected data associated with the first cell is available. Based at least on the first indication, the second base station determine whether to request the UE to transmit the collected data to the second base station. If the second base station determines to request the UE to transmit the collected data, the second base station may receive the collected data associated with the first cell from the UE and transmit the collected data associated with the first cell to the first base station. With this solution, absence of the data collected but not transmitted before or during mobility events may be avoided. Therefore, AI / ML model training at the first base station may be ensured.

[0063] Aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of a wireless communications system.

[0064] Fig. 1 illustrates an example of a wireless communications system 100 that supports data collection during mobility in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communications system 100 may include one at least one of network entities 102 (also referred to as network equipment (NE) ) , one or more terminal devices or UEs 104, a core network 106, and a packet data network 108. The wireless communications system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 5G network, such as an NR network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including institute of electrical and electronics engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0065] The network entities 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100. One or more of the network entities 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station (BS) , a network element, a radio access network (RAN) node, a base transceiver station, an access point, a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. A network entity 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link 110, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, a network entity 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0066] The network entities 102 may be collectively referred to as network entities 102 or individually referred to as a network entity 102. Hereinafter, some implementations of the present disclosure will be described by taking base stations as an example of the network entities 102. Thus, the network entity 102 may be used interchangeably with base stations 102. For example, the base stations 102 may comprise a first base station 102-1 and a second base station 102-2.

[0067] A network entity 102 may provide a geographic coverage area 112 for which the network entity 102 may support services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area 112. For example, a network entity 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network. In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas 112 may be associated with different network entities 102. Information and signals described herein may be represented using any of a variety of different technologies and techniques. For example, data, instructions, commands, information, signals, bits, symbols, and chips that may be referenced throughout the description may be represented by voltages, currents, electromagnetic waves, magnetic fields or particles, optical fields or particles, or any combination thereof.

[0068] The one or more UEs 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a remote unit, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an internet-of-things (IoT) device, an internet-of-everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples. In some implementations, a UE 104 may be stationary in the wireless communications system 100. In some other implementations, a UE 104 may be mobile in the wireless communications system 100.

[0069] The one or more UEs 104 may be devices in different forms or having different capabilities. Some examples of UEs 104 are illustrated in Fig. 1. A UE 104 may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as the network entities 102, other UEs 104, or network equipment (e.g., the core network 106, the packet data network 108, a relay device, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, or another network equipment) , as shown in Fig. 1. Additionally, or alternatively, a UE 104 may support communication with other network entities 102 or UEs 104, which may act as relays in the wireless communications system 100.

[0070] A UE 104 may also be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link 114. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0071] A network entity 102 may support communications with the core network 106, or with another network entity 102, or both. For example, a network entity 102 may interface with the core network 106 through one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The network entities 102 may communicate with each other over the backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an X2, Xn, or another network interface) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., between the network entities 102) . In some other implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 106) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0072] In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be configured in a disaggregated architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed among two or more network entities 102, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open radio access network (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, a network entity 102 may include one or more of a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a radio unit (RU) , a RAN intelligent controller (RIC) (e.g., a near-real time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a non-real time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a service management and orchestration (SMO) system, or any combination thereof.

[0073] An RU may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , or a transmission reception point (TRP) . One or more components of the network entities 102 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entities 102 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) , a virtual DU (VDU) , a virtual RU (VRU) ) .

[0074] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., an L3, an L2) functionality and signaling (e.g., radio resource control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as an L1 (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU.

[0075] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .

[0076] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links.

[0077] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0078] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0079] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0080] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0081] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0082] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0083] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0084] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0085] Fig. 2 illustrates another example of a wireless communications system 200 that supports data collection during mobility in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in Fig. 2, the wireless communications system 200 may comprise the first base station 102-1, the second base station 102-2 and the UE 104. The second base station 102-2 is different from the first base station 102-1.

[0086] In some implementations, initially, the UE 104 may access to a first cell of the first base station 102-1. Then, the UE 104 may perform a mobility procedure to a second cell of the second base station 102-2.

[0087] In some implementations, the UE 104 may perform the mobility procedure by performing handover. In such implementations, the first base station 102-1 and the first cell may be referred to as a source base station 102-1 and a source cell, respectively. The second base station 102-2 and the second cell may be referred to as a target base station 102-2 and a target cell, respectively.

[0088] Alternatively, in some implementations, the UE 104 may perform the mobility procedure by detecting radio link failure (RLF) or handover failure (HOF) or by performing an RRC state transition. In such implementations, the first base station 102-1 and the first cell may be referred to as a last serving base station 102-1 and a last serving cell, respectively. The second base station 102-2 and the second cell may be referred to as an establishment base station 102-2 or reestablishment base station 102-2 and an establishment cell or reestablishment cell, respectively.

[0089] Fig. 3 illustrates a signaling diagram illustrating an example process 300 that supports data collection during mobility in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 300 may involve the first base station 102-1, the second base station 102-2 and the UE 104 in Fig. 1 or 2.

[0090] As shown in Fig. 3, the first base station 102-1 transmits 310, to the UE 104, a configuration for data collection for AI or ML model training.

[0091] In some implementations, the configuration for data collection may comprise at least one of the following: a measurement target or object configuration, or a logging configuration.

[0092] In some implementations, the measurement target or object configuration may comprise a channel state information (CSI) resource configuration or a resource set configuration.

[0093] In some implementations, the logging configuration may comprise at least one of the following: periodicity, or event triggers for logging.

[0094] The UE 104 collects 320, based on the configuration, data associated with the first cell of the first base station 102-1.

[0095] In some implementations, the UE 104 may collect the data associated with the first cell by collecting the data in the first cell.

[0096] In some implementations, the UE 104 may collect the data in the first cell by logging the data in the first cell.

[0097] In some implementations, the UE 104 may collect data associated with the second cell by logging the data in the second cell.

[0098] In some implementations, the collected data may comprise measurement results on reference signals (RS) .

[0099] In some implementations, the AI or ML mode training may be used for AI / ML based beam management. In such implementations, the collected data may comprise L1 reference signal received power (L1-RSRP) measurement results on synchronization signal / physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) or CSI-RS.

[0100] In some implementations, during the mobility procedure, the UE 104 may have two type of collected data: the collected data associated with the first cell and the collected data associated with the second cell. Since the collected data associated with the first cell should be transmitted to the first base station 102-1 while the collected data associated with the second cell should be transmitted to the second base station 102-2, the UE 104 needs to distinguish the two types of collected data.

[0101] In some implementations, in order to distinguish the two types of collected data, when the UE 104 collects data associated with a cell, the UE 104 may log an ID of the cell associated with the collected data. For example, when the UE 104 collects the data associated with the first cell, the UE 104 may log an ID of the first cell associated with the collected data. When the UE 104 collects the data associated with the second cell, the UE 104 may log an ID of the second cell associated with the collected data.

[0102] In some implementations, the logged ID of a cell may comprise an NR cell global identifier (NCGI) of the cell. The NCGI is constructed from a public land mobile network (PLMN) identity the cell belongs to and the NR cell identity (NCI) of the cell.

[0103] In some implementations, the logged ID of a cell may comprise an ID of a primary cell (PCell) or an ID of a secondary cell (SCell) in carrier aggregation (CA) case.

[0104] In some implementations, after or during the data collection in the first cell, the UE 104 may perform 330 a mobility procedure to the second cell of the second base station 102-2.

[0105] In some implementations, the UE 104 may perform the mobility procedure by performing handover. In such implementations, the first base station 102-1 and the first cell may be referred to as a source base station 102-1 and a source cell, respectively. The second base station 102-2 and the second cell may be referred to as a target base station 102-2 and a target cell, respectively.

[0106] Alternatively, in some implementations, the UE 104 may perform the mobility procedure by detecting RLF or HOF or by performing an RRC state transition. In such implementations, the first base station 102-1 and the first cell may be referred to as a last serving base station 102-1 and a last serving cell, respectively. The second base station 102-2 and the second cell may be referred to as an (re) establishment base station 102-2 and an (re) establishment cell, respectively.

[0107] In turn, the UE 104 transmits 340 a first indication to the second base station 102-2. The first indication indicates that the collected data associated with the first cell is available. Alternatively, the first indication indicates that there is collected data associated with the source cell to be reported in the UE 104. Alternatively, the first indication indicates that the UE 104 has collected data associated with the source cell to be reported. Alternatively, the first indication indicates that the UE 104 has collected data to be reported. Hereinafter, the first indication is also referred to as an “available collected data indication” .

[0108] Based at least on the available collected data indication, the second base station 102-2 determines 350 whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data to the second base station 102-2.

[0109] With the process 300, absence of the data collected but not transmitted before or during mobility events may be avoided. Therefore, AI / ML model training at the first base station 102-1 may be ensured.

[0110] Hereinafter, some implementations will be described by taking handover for example of the mobility procedure.

[0111] In some implementations, upon receiving the available collected data indication, the second base station 102-2 may autonomously determine whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data to the second base station 102-2. This will be described with reference to Fig. 4.

[0112] Alternatively, in some implementations, upon receiving the available collected data indication, the second base station 102-2 may request the first base station 102-1 to determine whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data to the second base station 102-2. This will be described with reference to Fig. 5.

[0113] Fig. 4 illustrates a signaling diagram illustrating an example process 400 that supports data collection during mobility in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 400 may considered as an example implementation of the process 300. The process 400 may involve the first base station 102-1, the second base station 102-2 and the UE 104 in Fig. 1 or 2.

[0114] Generally, in the process 400, upon receiving the available collected data indication, the second base station 102-2 may autonomously determine whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data to the second base station 102-2.

[0115] In addition, in the process 400, the first base station 102-1 and the first cell may be referred to as the source base station 102-1 and the source cell, respectively. The second base station 102-2 and the second cell may be referred to as the target base station 102-2 and the target cell, respectively.

[0116] As shown in Fig. 4, the source base station 102-1 transmits 410, to the UE 104, the configuration for data collection for AI or ML model training. The action 410 is similar to the action 310 in Fig. 3. Details of this action are omitted for brevity.

[0117] The UE 104 collects 415, based on the configuration, data associated with the source cell of the source base station 102-1.

[0118] In addition, in order to distinguish the collected data associated with the source cell from the collected data associated with the target cell, the UE 104 may also log 415 an ID of the source cell associated with the collected data. Hereinafter, the ID of the source cell is also referred to as a source cell ID.

[0119] In turn, a handover procedure to the target cell of the target base station 102-2 is performed.

[0120] In order to perform handover to the target cell, the source base station 102-1 may transmit 420 a Handover Request message to the target base station 102-2.

[0121] Upon receiving the Handover Request message, the target base station 102-2 may transmit 425 a Handover Request Acknowledge (Ack) message to the source base station 102-1.

[0122] Upon receiving the Handover Request Ack message, the source base station 102-1 may transmit 430 an RRC Reconfiguration message (i.e., handover command) to the UE 104.

[0123] In some implementations, upon receiving the handover command, the UE 104 may retain the collected data associated with the source cell.

[0124] In addition, upon receiving the handover command, the UE 104 may switch 435 to the target cell.

[0125] In the target cell, the UE 104 may transmit 440 an RRC Reconfiguration Complete message to the target base station 102-2. The RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may comprise the available collected data indication.

[0126] In some implementations, optionally, the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may also comprise the source cell ID.

[0127] In some implementations, optionally, the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may also comprise a size (e.g., in bits or bytes) of the collected data associated with the source cell.

[0128] Upon receiving the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message comprising the available collected data indication, the second base station 102-2 may autonomously determine 445 whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the second base station 102-2.

[0129] If the second base station 102-2 determines to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the second base station 102-2, the second base station 102-2 may transmit 450 a UEInformationRequest message to the UE 104.

[0130] In some implementations, the UEInformationRequest message may comprise a per cell request of data collection reporting.

[0131] For example, the UEInformationRequest message may comprise a request for the collected data associated with the source cell. Optionally, the UEInformationRequest message may also comprise the source cell ID.

[0132] For another example, if the second base station 102-2 determines to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the target cell to the second base station 102-2, the UEInformationRequest message may comprise a request for the collected data associated with the target cell. Optionally, the UEInformationRequest message may also comprise the target cell ID.

[0133] On the other hand, upon receiving the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message comprising the available collected data indication, the second base station 102-2 may determine not to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the second base station 102-2. In other words, the second base station 102-2 may determine to discard the collected data associated with the source cell. In this case, the target base station 102-2 may transmit an indication to the UE 104. The indication may indicate discarding the collected data associated with the source cell, and the source cell ID is included. When receiving the indication, the UE 104 discards the collected data associated with the source cell. If the UE 104 has collected data associated with the target cell, the UE 104 may only release or discard the collected data associated with the source cell and keep the collected data associated with the target cell.

[0134] Upon receiving the UEInformationRequest message, the UE 104 transmits 455 a UEInformationResponse message to the target base station 102-2.

[0135] In some implementations, when receiving the UEInformationRequest message, the UE 104 may have two types of collected data: collected data associated with the source cell and collected data associated with the target cell. For example, the UE 104 may include the two types of collected data in a single UEInformationResponse message. If so, the UE 104 may include a cell ID for each of the two types of collected data. For the collected data associated with the source cell, the UE 104 may include the source cell ID together with the collected data. For the collected data associated with the target cell, the UE 104 may include the target cell ID together with the collected data.

[0136] In some implementations, for the collected data associated with the source cell, the UE 104 can also include an ID of the UE 104 (also referred to as UE ID) in the source cell. The UE ID in the source cell may be the cell-radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) that the UE 104 used in the source cell. The UE ID in the source cell may be used by the source base station 102-1 to identify the UE to which the collected data belongs.

[0137] In turn, the target base station 102-2 transmits 460 the collected data associated with the source cell to the source base station 102-1.

[0138] In some implementations, optionally, the target base station 102-2 may transmit the source cell ID to the source base station 102-1. For example, the target base station 102-2 may transmit, to the source base station 102-1, the collected data associated with the source cell together with the source cell ID.

[0139] In some implementations, optionally, the target base station 102-2 may transmit the UE ID to the source base station 102-1. For example, the target base station 102-2 may transmit, to the source base station 102-1, the collected data associated with the source cell together with the UE ID in the source cell.

[0140] In some implementations, the source base station 102-1 may use the source cell ID and the UE ID in the source cell to identify the UE context.

[0141] In some implementations, the target base station 102-2 may transmit the collected data associated with the source cell and the source cell ID and the UE ID in XnAP signalling either by UE associated or non-the UE associated signalling.

[0142] Fig. 5 illustrates a signaling diagram illustrating an example process 500 that supports data collection during mobility in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 500 may considered as an example implementation of the process 300. The process 500 may involve the first base station 102-1, the second base station 102-2 and the UE 104 in Fig. 1 or 2.

[0143] Generally, in the process 500, upon receiving the available collected data indication, the second base station 102-2 may request the first base station 102-1 to determine whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data to the second base station 102-2.

[0144] In addition, in the process 500, the first base station 102-1 and the first cell may be referred to as the source base station 102-1 and the source cell, respectively. The second base station 102-2 and the second cell may be referred to as the target base station 102-2 and the target cell, respectively.

[0145] The actions 410, 415, 420, 425, 430, 435, 450, 455 and 460 in Fig. 5 are similar to those in Fig. 4. Details of these actions are omitted for brevity.

[0146] The process 500 is different from the process 400 in actions 510, 515, 520 and 525.

[0147] As shown in Fig. 5, in the target cell, the UE 104 may transmit 510 an RRC Reconfiguration Complete message to the target base station 102-2. The RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may comprise the available collected data indication.

[0148] In some implementations, optionally, the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may also comprise the source cell ID.

[0149] In some implementations, optionally, the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may also comprise the ID of the UE 104 in the source cell.

[0150] In some implementations, optionally, the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may also comprise a size (e.g., in bits or bytes) of the collected data associated with the source cell.

[0151] Upon receiving the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message comprising the available collected data indication, the target base station 102-2 may request 515 the source base station 102-1 to determine whether to request the UE to transmit the collected data to the target base station 102-2. For example, the target base station 102-2 may request the source base station 102-1 by transmitting a Data Collection Request to the source base station 102-1.

[0152] In some implementations, the Data Collection Request message may comprise the available collected data indication.

[0153] In some implementations, optionally, the Data Collection Request message may also comprise the source cell ID.

[0154] In some implementations, optionally, the Data Collection Request message may also comprise the ID of the UE 104 in the source cell.

[0155] In some implementations, optionally, the Data Collection Request message may also comprise a size (e.g., in bits or bytes) of the collected data associated with the source cell.

[0156] Upon receiving the Data Collection Request message, the source base station 102-1 may determine 520 whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the target base station 102-2.

[0157] For example, the source base station 102-1 may determine, based on the available collected data indication, whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the target base station 102-2.

[0158] For another example, the source base station 102-1 may determine, based on the available collected data indication and the source cell ID, whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the target base station 102-2.

[0159] For a further example, the source base station 102-1 may determine, based on the available collected data indication, the source cell ID and the UE ID in the source cell, whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the target base station 102-2.

[0160] If the source base station 102-1 determines to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the target base station 102-2, the source base station 102-1 may transmit 525 a response to the target base station 102-2. For example, the source base station 102-1 may transmit a Data Collection Response message to the target base station 102-2. The Data Collection Response message may comprise an indication indicating to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the target base station 102-2. Alternatively, the Data Collection Response message itself may indicate to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the target base station 102-2.

[0161] In some implementations, if the UE 104 transmits the data that was collected in the source cell to the target base station 102-2, the target base station 102-2 needs to distinguish the data collection originates from the source base station 102-1 or OAM. If the data collection originates from OAM, the target base station 102-2 may transmit the received collected data to OAM directly. If the data collection originates from the source base station 102-1, the target base station 102-2 may transmit the received collected data to the source base station 102-1.

[0162] Hereinafter, the data collection originating from OAM is also referred to as OAM centric data collection, and the data collection originating a base station is also referred to as base station centric data collection or gNB centric data collection.

[0163] In some implementations, in order to distinguish the data collection originating from the source base station 102-1 from the data collection originating from OAM, the configuration for data collection may comprise an explicit indication (i.e., a second indication) . The second indication indicates whether the data collection originates from the source base station 102-1 or OAM.

[0164] Alternatively, in order to distinguish the data collection originating from the source base station 102-1 from the data collection originating from OAM, the configuration for data collection may comprise an implicit indication. If a dedicated ID allocated by OAM is present in the configuration for data collection, it means the data collection originates from OAM. If the dedicated ID allocated by OAM is absent from the configuration for data collection, it means the data collection originates from the source base station 102-1.

[0165] Fig. 6 illustrates a signaling diagram illustrating an example process 600 that supports data collection during mobility in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 600 may considered as an example implementation of the process 300. The process 600 may involve the first base station 102-1, the second base station 102-2 and the UE 104 in Fig. 1 or 2.

[0166] Generally, in the process 600, the configuration for data collection may comprise an explicit indication or implicit indication indicating whether the data collection originates from the source base station 102-1 or OAM.

[0167] In addition, in the process 600, the first base station 102-1 and the first cell may be referred to as the source base station 102-1 and the source cell, respectively. The second base station 102-2 and the second cell may be referred to as the target base station 102-2 and the target cell, respectively.

[0168] As shown in Fig. 6, the source base station 102-1 transmits 610, to the UE 104, the configuration for data collection for AI or ML model training.

[0169] In some implementations, in order to distinguish the data collection originating from the source base station 102-1 from the data collection originating from OAM, the configuration for data collection may comprise an explicit indication (i.e., a second indication) . The second indication indicates whether the data collection originates from the source base station 102-1 or OAM.

[0170] Alternatively, in order to distinguish the data collection originating from the source base station 102-1 from the data collection originating from OAM, the configuration for data collection may comprise an implicit indication. If a dedicated ID allocated by OAM is present in the configuration for data collection, it means the data collection originates from OAM. In other words, presence of the dedicated ID in the configuration for data collection indicates the data collection originates from OAM. If the dedicated ID allocated by OAM is absent from the configuration for data collection, it means the data collection originates from the source base station 102-1. In other words, absence of the dedicated ID in the configuration for data collection indicates the data collection originates from a base station (such as the source base station 102-1) .

[0171] Hereinafter, the explicit indication (i.e., the second indication) and the implicit indication are collectively referred to as “OAM centric or gNB centric indication” .

[0172] The UE 104 collects 615, based on the configuration, data associated with the source cell of the source base station 102-1.

[0173] In addition, in order to distinguish the collected data associated with the source cell from the collected data associated with the target cell, the UE 104 may also log 615 the source cell ID associated with the collected data.

[0174] In turn, a handover procedure to the target cell of the target base station 102-2 is performed.

[0175] In order to perform handover to the target cell, the source base station 102-1 may transmit 620 a Handover Request message to the target base station 102-2.

[0176] Upon receiving the Handover Request message, the target base station 102-2 may transmit 625 a Handover Request Ack message to the source base station 102-1.

[0177] Upon receiving the Handover Request Ack message, the source base station 102-1 may transmit 630 an RRC Reconfiguration message (i.e., handover command) to the UE 104.

[0178] In some implementations, upon receiving the handover command, the UE 104 may retain the collected data associated with the source cell.

[0179] In addition, upon receiving the handover command, the UE 104 may switch 635 to the target cell.

[0180] In the target cell, the UE 104 may transmit 640 an RRC Reconfiguration Complete message to the target base station 102-2. The RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may comprise the available collected data indication.

[0181] In some implementations, optionally, the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may also comprise the explicit indication or implicit indication indicating whether the data collection originates from OAM or the first base station 102-1. In other words, optionally, the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may also comprise the “OAM centric or gNB centric indication” .

[0182] In some implementations, optionally, the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may also comprise the source cell ID.

[0183] In some implementations, optionally, the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may also comprise a size (e.g., in bits or bytes) of the collected data associated with the source cell.

[0184] Upon receiving the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message comprising the available collected data indication, the target base station 102-2 may autonomously determine 645 whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the target base station 102-2.

[0185] If the second base station 102-2 determines to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the second base station 102-2, the second base station 102-2 may transmit 650 a UEInformationRequest message to the UE 104. For example, the UEInformationRequest message may comprise a request for the collected data associated with the source cell.

[0186] In some implementations, if the “OAM centric or gNB centric indication” indicates that the data collection originates from the source base station 102-1, the target base station 102-2 may request per gNB centric data collection reporting of the source cell. If the “OAM centric or gNB centric indication” indicates that the data collection originates from OAM, the target base station 102-2 may request per OAM centric data collection reporting of the source cell.

[0187] In some implementations, optionally, the UEInformationRequest message may also comprise a request type indication indicating data collection reporting for OAM centric or gNB centric. In other words, the request type indication indicates to request collected data for data collection originating from OAM or gNB (such as the source base station 102-1) .

[0188] In some implementations, the UEInformationRequest message may not comprise the request type indication indicating per gNB centric data collection reporting or per OAM centric data collection reporting.

[0189] On the other hand, upon receiving the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message comprising the available collected data indication, the second base station 102-2 may determine not to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the second base station 102-2.

[0190] Upon receiving the UEInformationRequest message, the UE 104 transmits 655 a UEInformationResponse message to the target base station 102-2.

[0191] In some implementations, if the UEInformationRequest message comprises the request type indication and the request type indication indicates data collection reporting for gNB centric, the UEInformationResponse message may comprise the collected data associated with the source cell for the data collection originating from the source base station 102-1.

[0192] In some implementations, if the UEInformationRequest message comprises the request type indication and the request type indication indicates data collection reporting for OAM centric, the UEInformationResponse message may comprise the collected data associated with the source cell and the data collection originates from OAM.

[0193] In some implementations, if the UEInformationRequest message does not comprise the request type indication, the UEInformationResponse message may comprise the collected data associated with the source cell for the data collection originating from the source base station 102-1, as well as the collected data associated with the source cell for the data collection originating from OAM.

[0194] In some implementations, the UEInformationResponse message may also comprise the “OAM centric or gNB centric indication” .

[0195] For example, the UEInformationResponse message may comprise the second indication indicating whether the data collection originates from the source base station 102-1 or OAM.

[0196] Alternatively, the UEInformationResponse message may comprise the dedicated ID allocated by OAM, which indicates the data collection originates from OAM. The UEInformationResponse message may not comprise the dedicated ID allocated by OAM, which indicates the data collection originates from the source base station 102-1.

[0197] In some implementations, the UEInformationResponse message may also comprise the source cell ID.

[0198] In turn, if the collected data associated with the source cell is for the data collection originating from the source base station 102-1, the target base station 102-2 transmits 660 the collected data associated with the source cell to the source base station 102-1. If the collected data associated with the source cell is for the data collection originating from OAM, the target base station 102-2 transmits 665 the collected data associated with the source cell to OAM.

[0199] In some implementations, optionally, for gNB centric data collection, the target base station 102-2 may transmit the source cell ID to the source base station 102-1. For example, the target base station 102-2 may transmit, to the source base station 102-1, the collected data associated with the source cell together with the source cell ID.

[0200] In some implementations, optionally, for gNB centric data collection, the target base station 102-2 may transmit the UE ID to the source base station 102-1. For example, the target base station 102-2 may transmit, to the source base station 102-1, the collected data associated with the source cell together with the UE ID in the source cell.

[0201] In some implementations, the source base station 102-1 may use the source cell ID and the UE ID in the source cell to identify the UE context.

[0202] In some implementations, for gNB centric data collection, the target base station 102-2 may transmit the collected data associated with the source cell and the source cell ID and the UE ID in XnAP signalling either by UE associated or non-the UE associated signalling.

[0203] Fig. 7 illustrates a signaling diagram illustrating an example process 700 that supports data collection during mobility in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 700 may considered as an example implementation of the process 300. The process 700 may involve the first base station 102-1, the second base station 102-2 and the UE 104 in Fig. 1 or 2.

[0204] Generally, in the process 700, in order to distinguish the data collection originating from the source base station 102-1 from the data collection originating from OAM, if the source base station 102-1 thinks there is potential available collected data associated with the source cell to be reported in the UE 104, the source base station 102-1 may transmit information about configurations for data collections in the source cell to the target base station 102-2. The information comprises an ID of each of the data collections and an explicit indication (i.e., a third indication) . The third indication indicates each of the data collections with a respective ID originates from the source base station 102-1 or OAM.

[0205] Alternatively, the information about the configurations for data collections in the source cell may comprise an ID of each of the data collections and an implicit indication. If a dedicated ID associated with an ID of a respective data collection is present in the information, it means the data collection with the ID originates from OAM. If the dedicated ID is absent from the information, it means the data collection originates from the source base station 102-1. The dedicated ID is allocated by OAM.

[0206] Hereinafter, the explicit indication (i.e., the third indication) and the implicit indication are collectively referred to as “OAM centric or gNB centric indication” .

[0207] The UE 104 may transmit, to the target base station 102-2, the collected data associated with the source cell together with an ID of the data collection. Based on the ID of the data collection received from the UE 104 and the information received from the source base station 102-1, the target base station 102-2 may determine the collected data is for the data collection originating from the source base station 102-1 or OAM.

[0208] In addition, in the process 700, the first base station 102-1 and the first cell may be referred to as the source base station 102-1 and the source cell, respectively. The second base station 102-2 and the second cell may be referred to as the target base station 102-2 and the target cell, respectively.

[0209] As shown in Fig. 7, the source base station 102-1 transmits 710, to the UE 104, the configuration for data collection for AI or ML model training. The action 710 is similar to the action 310 in Fig. 3. Details of this action are omitted for brevity.

[0210] The UE 104 collects 715, based on the configuration, data associated with the source cell of the source base station 102-1.

[0211] In addition, in order to distinguish the collected data associated with the source cell from the collected data associated with the target cell, the UE 104 may also log 715 the source cell ID associated with the collected data.

[0212] In turn, a handover procedure to the target cell of the target base station 102-2 is performed.

[0213] In order to perform handover to the target cell, the source base station 102-1 may transmit 720 a Handover Request message to the target base station 102-2.

[0214] In some implementations, the Handover Request message may comprise information about configurations for data collections in the source cell to the target base station 102-2. The information comprises an ID of each of the data collections and an explicit indication (i.e., a third indication) . The third indication indicates each of the data collections with a respective ID originates from a gNB (such as the source base station 102-1) or OAM. For example, an ID of data collection may comprise a logged measurement ID.

[0215] Table 1 gives an example of the information about configurations for data collections in the source cell. Table 1

[0216] In the example of Table 1, the information about configurations for data collections in the source cell comprises a first ID of first data collection in the source cell The first ID of first data collection is allocated by the source base station 102-1 and is represented by “Data collection#1” . For example, the “Data collection#1” may be a logged measurement ID#1. The information also comprises an indication indicating the first data collection with the first ID (Data collection#1) originates from a gNB.

[0217] In the example of Table 1, the information about configurations for data collections in the source cell also comprises a second ID of second data collection in the source cell. The second ID of second data collection is allocated by the source base station 102-1 and is represented by “Data collection#2” . For example, the “Data collection#2” may be a logged measurement ID#2. The information also comprises an indication indicating the second data collection with the second ID (Data collection#2) originates from OAM.

[0218] Alternatively, the information about the configurations for data collections in the source cell may comprise an ID of each of the data collections and an implicit indication. If a dedicated ID associated with an ID of a respective data collection is present in the information, it means the data collection with the ID originates from OAM. If the dedicated ID is absent from the information, it means the data collection originates from the source base station 102-1. The dedicated ID is allocated by OAM.

[0219] Table 2 gives another example of the information about configurations for data collections in the source cell. Table 2

[0220] In the example of Table 2, the information about configurations for data collections in the source cell comprises a first ID of first data collection in the source cell. The first ID of first data collection is allocated by the source base station 102-1 and is represented by “Data collection#1” . For example, the “Data collection#1” may be a logged measurement ID#1. The information does not comprise a dedicated ID associated with the first ID of first data collection (Data collection#1) , which indicates the first data collection with the first ID (Data collection#1) originates from a gNB.

[0221] In the example of Table 2, the information about configurations for data collections in the source cell comprises a second ID of second data collection in the source cell. The second ID of second data collection is allocated by the source base station 102-1 and is represented by “Data collection#2” . For example, the “Data collection#2” may be a logged measurement ID#2. The information also comprises a dedicated ID (e.g., Dedicated ID#2) associated with the second ID of second data collection (Data collection#2) , which indicates the second data collection with the second ID (Data collection#2) originates from OAM.

[0222] Hereinafter, the explicit indication (i.e., the third indication) and the implicit indication are collectively referred to as “OAM centric or gNB centric indication” .

[0223] Upon receiving the Handover Request message, the target base station 102-2 may transmit 725 a Handover Request Ack message to the source base station 102-1.

[0224] Upon receiving the Handover Request Ack message, the source base station 102-1 may transmit 730 an RRC Reconfiguration message (i.e., handover command) to the UE 104.

[0225] In some implementations, upon receiving the handover command, the UE 104 may retain the collected data associated with the source cell.

[0226] In addition, upon receiving the handover command, the UE 104 may switch 735 to the target cell.

[0227] In the target cell, the UE 104 may transmit 740 an RRC Reconfiguration Complete message to the target base station 102-2. The RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may comprise the available collected data indication.

[0228] In some implementations, optionally, the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may also comprise the source cell ID.

[0229] In some implementations, optionally, the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message may also comprise a size (e.g., in bits or bytes) of the collected data associated with the source cell.

[0230] Upon receiving the RRC Reconfiguration Complete message comprising the available collected data indication, the target base station 102-2 may autonomously determine 745 whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the target base station 102-2.

[0231] If the second base station 102-2 determines to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data associated with the source cell to the second base station 102-2, the second base station 102-2 may transmit 750 a UEInformationRequest message to the UE 104. For example, the UEInformationRequest message may comprise a request for the collected data associated with the source cell.

[0232] Upon receiving the UEInformationRequest message, the UE 104 transmits 755 a UEInformationResponse message to the target base station 102-2.

[0233] In some implementations, the UEInformationResponse message may comprise the collected data associated with the source cell and an ID of the data collection.

[0234] For example, if the collected data associated with the source cell is for Data collection#1 in Table 1 or 2, the UEInformationResponse message may comprise the collected data associated with the source cell and Data collection#1.

[0235] For another example, if the collected data associated with the source cell is for Data collection#2 in Table 1 or 2, the UEInformationResponse message may comprise the collected data associated with the source cell and Data collection#2.

[0236] In some implementations, the UEInformationResponse message may also comprise the source cell ID.

[0237] Upon receiving the UEInformationResponse message, the target base station 102-2 determines 760 the collected data is for the data collection originating from the source base station 102-1 or OAM based on the following: the ID of the data collection received from the UE 104, and the information about configurations for data collections in the source cell received from the source base station 102-1 in the action 720.

[0238] For example, if the UEInformationResponse message comprises the collected data associated with the source cell and Data collection#1, the target base station 102-2 may determine the collected data is for the data collection originating from the source base station 102-1 based on Data collection#1 in the UEInformationResponse message and Table 1 or 2.

[0239] For another example, if the UEInformationResponse message comprises the collected data associated with the source cell and Data collection#2, the target base station 102-2 may determine the collected data is for the data collection originating from OAM based on Data collection#2 in the UEInformationResponse message and Table 1 or 2.

[0240] In turn, if the collected data associated with the source cell is for the data collection originating from the source base station 102-1, the target base station 102-2 transmits 765 the collected data associated with the source cell to the source base station 102-1. If the collected data associated with the source cell is for the data collection originating from OAM, the target base station 102-2 transmits 770 the collected data associated with the source cell to OAM.

[0241] In some implementations, optionally, for gNB centric data collection, the target base station 102-2 may transmit the source cell ID to the source base station 102-1. For example, the target base station 102-2 may transmit, to the source base station 102-1, the collected data associated with the source cell together with the source cell ID.

[0242] In some implementations, optionally, for gNB centric data collection, the target base station 102-2 may transmit the UE ID to the source base station 102-1. For example, the target base station 102-2 may transmit, to the source base station 102-1, the collected data associated with the source cell together with the UE ID in the source cell.

[0243] In some implementations, the source base station 102-1 may use the source cell ID and the UE ID in the source cell to identify the UE context.

[0244] In some implementations, for gNB centric data collection, the target base station 102-2 may transmit the collected data associated with the source cell and the source cell ID and the UE ID in XnAP signalling either by UE associated or non-the UE associated signalling.

[0245] It shall be noted that, some implementations have been described by taking handover for example of the mobility procedure. The solution of the present disclosure may be applied to connection re-establishment (such as RRC re-establishment) procedure. In such implementations, the UE 104 in RRC_CONNECTED state may initiate the RRC re-establishment procedure to continue the RRC connection when a failure condition occurs (e.g. radio link failure, reconfiguration failure, integrity check failure and so on) .

[0246] For example, the UE 104 may suffer a failure in the first base station 102-1 (called as last serving base station) and performs the RRC reestablishment procedure. The UE 104 re-establishes the RRC connection with the second base station 102-2 (called as establishment base station) . Upon detecting radio link failure, the UE 104 may retain the collected data associated with the first cell of the first base station 102-1. In turn, in the establishment cell of the second base station 102-2, the UE 104 may transmit the collected data associated with the first cell to the second base station 102-2, for example, by performing a process similar to the process 400, 500, 600 or 700. Details of such a process are omitted for brevity.

[0247] Fig. 8 illustrates a signaling diagram illustrating an example process 800 that supports data collection during mobility in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 800 may involve the first base station 102-1 and the UE 104 in Fig. 1 or 2.

[0248] As shown in Fig. 8, the first base station 102-1 transmits 810, to the UE 104, a configuration for data collection for AI or ML model training.

[0249] In some implementations, the configuration for data collection may comprise at least one of the following: a measurement target or object configuration, or a logging configuration.

[0250] In some implementations, the measurement target or object configuration may comprise a CSI resource configuration or a resource set configuration.

[0251] In some implementations, the logging configuration may comprise at least one of the following: periodicity, or event triggers for logging.

[0252] The UE 104 collects 820, based on the configuration, data associated with the first cell of the first base station 102-1.

[0253] In some implementations, the UE 104 may collect the data associated with the first cell by collecting the data in the first cell.

[0254] In some implementations, the UE 104 may collect the data in the first cell by logging the data in the first cell.

[0255] In some implementations, the collected data may comprise measurement results on RS.

[0256] In some implementations, the AI or ML mode training may be used for AI / ML based beam management. In such implementations, the collected data may comprise L1-RSRP measurement results on SSB or CSI-RS.

[0257] In turn, upon re-connection to the first base station 102-1 before expiration of a time duration, the UE 104 may 830 transmit a first indication to the first base station 102-1. The first indication indicates that the collected data associated with the first cell is available. Upon receiving the first indication, the first base station 102-1 may determine, based at least on the first indication, whether to request the UE 104 to transmit the collected data to the first base station 102-1.

[0258] Alternatively, the UE 104 may 840 release the collected data associated with the first cell upon expiration of the time duration.

[0259] In some implementations, upon receiving a handover command or detecting radio link failure, the UE 104 may retain the collected data associated with the first cell for a time duration and start a timer defining the time duration. Upon expiration of the timer, the UE 104 may release the collected data associated with the first cell.

[0260] In some implementations, the first base station 102-1 may configure the timer to the UE 104. The timer can be applied to all configured data collection measurements or can be per measurement.

[0261] Fig. 9 illustrates an example of a device 900 supporting data collection during mobility in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The device 900 may be an example of a network entity 102 or UE 104 as described herein. The device 900 may support wireless communication with one or more network entities 102, UEs 104, or any combination thereof. The device 900 may include components for bi-directional communications including components for transmitting and receiving communications, such as a processor 902, a memory 904, a transceiver 906, and, optionally, an I / O controller 908. These components may be in electronic communication or otherwise coupled (e.g., operatively, communicatively, functionally, electronically, electrically) via one or more interfaces (e.g., buses) .

[0262] The processor 902, the memory 904, the transceiver 906, or various combinations thereof or various components thereof may be examples of means for performing various aspects of the present disclosure as described herein. For example, the processor 902, the memory 904, the transceiver 906, or various combinations or components thereof may support a method for performing one or more of the operations described herein.

[0263] In some implementations, the processor 902, the memory 904, the transceiver 906, or various combinations or components thereof may be implemented in hardware (e.g., in communications management circuitry) . The hardware may include a processor, a digital signal processor (DSP) , an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device, a discrete gate or transistor logic, discrete hardware components, or any combination thereof configured as or otherwise supporting a means for performing the functions described in the present disclosure. In some implementations, the processor 902 and the memory 904 coupled with the processor 902 may be configured to perform one or more of the functions described herein (e.g., executing, by the processor 902, instructions stored in the memory 904) .

[0264] For example, the processor 902 may support wireless communication at the device 900 in accordance with examples as disclosed herein. The processor 902 may be configured to operable to support a means for performing the following: receiving a configuration for data collection for AI or ML model training from a first base station; collecting, based on the configuration, data associated with a first cell of the first base station; and transmitting a first indication via the transceiver to a second base station, wherein the second base station is different from the first base station, and the first indication indicates that the collected data associated with the first cell is available.

[0265] Alternatively, in some implementations, the processor 902 may be configured to operable to support a means for performing the following: receiving a first indication from a UE, wherein the first indication indicates that collected data associated with a first cell associated with a first base station is available; and determine, based at least on the first indication, whether to request the UE to transmitting the collected data to the second base station.

[0266] Alternatively, in some implementations, the processor 902 may be configured to operable to support a means for performing the following: transmitting, to a second base station, information about configurations for data collections in a first cell associated with the first base station, wherein the information comprises an ID of each of the data collections and a third indication indicating each of the data collections with a respective ID originates from the first base station or OAM.
