[0037] AI, at least including machine learning (ML) is used to learn and perform certain tasks via training neural networks (NNs) with vast amounts of data, which is successfully applied in computer vison (CV) and nature language processing (NLP) areas. Deep learning, which is a subordinate concept of ML, utilizes multi-layered NNs as an “AI / ML model” (or referred to as AI / ML model or the like) or "AI-based model" (or referred to as AI / ML based model or the like) to learn how to solve problems and / or optimize performance from vast amounts of data. If AI / ML models used on AI-based methods are well trained, the AI-based methods can obtain better performance than the traditional methods. Thus, 3rd generation partnership program (3GPP) has been considering to introduce AI / ML into 3GPP since 2016.

[0038] For example, one 3GPP work item is to study AI / ML aided mobility for network triggered layer (L) 3-based handover considering AI / ML based radio resource management (RRM) measurement and event prediction, wherein the AI / ML models can be located at radio access network (RAN) side (also referred to as network sided models or RAN side models or the like) and / or UE side (also referred to as UE sided models or the like) . UE will keep measuring and updating the measured, e.g., reference signal received power (RSRP) of a measurement object (e.g., a cell or a beam) according to L3 filter, which averages the last measurement result and the current measurement result with different weight values. L3 RRM measurement reports may be triggered due to RRM events, e.g., A3 and / or A5 etc., which are evaluated by UE using the measurement results of radio link quantity. It is supposed that in the case of AI / ML based measurement and event prediction, UE will skip some measurements and thus save some measurement works in UE side. Hereinafter, AI / ML based L1 and / or L3 measurement and event predictions, which may be measurement predictions, event predictions, or a combination thereof, may be referred to as "AI / ML based L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction" or "L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction, " or "L1 / L3 measurement / event prediction" or the like.

[0039] However, there are several issues to be solved for L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction. For example, since a handover may occur after the L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction is made, the handover may render UE or RAN side unable to determine whether the previously made L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction results are correct or not. In addition, if the target NE or RAN node, e.g., a target gNB would like to use the L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction results made before the handover, how the source gNB can transfer them to the target gNB should also be solved.

[0040] Various aspects of the present disclosure propose that a NE or RAN node (referred to as a first NE) serving a UE, e.g., a gNB may send measurement configuration information to the UE. Exemplary measurement configuration information may indicate one or multiple of the following: measurement configurations on beams or candidate beams interested by the UE, measurement configurations on cells or candidate cells interested by the UE, measurement configurations on beams or candidate beams interested by the first NE (e.g., in the case of inter handover) , or measurement configurations on cells candidate cells interested by the first NE (e.g., in the case of inter handover) .

[0041] In some scenarios, e.g., the first NE is an anchor NE of the UE or there is an intra handover (e.g., intra gNB handover) for the UE under the first NE, the measurement configuration information may be determined by the first NE itself. In some scenarios, e.g., an inter handover (e.g., inter gNB handover) for the UE where the UE will be handed over from the first NE to a second NE, e.g., a target gNB of the UE, the measurement configuration information may be determined by the second NE, e.g., based on measurement related information received in a handover request message for triggering the inter handover. During the handover, the first NE may receive the measurement configuration information from the second NE, e.g., in a handover request acknowledge message (or handover command) or the like, and then transmit it to the UE.

[0042] After receiving the measurement configuration information, the UE will perform measurements based on the measurement configuration information. If the performed measurements are measurements interested by the UE (or referred to as UE interested measurements) , UE may use the corresponding measurements results for monitoring UE sided AI / ML models or other purposes. If the performed interested measurements are measurements interested by the first NE (or referred to as first NE interested measurements, or source NE interested measurements or the like) , UE may send the corresponding measurement results to the first NE directly, e.g., in the case that the first NE still serves the UE, or indirectly via the second NE, e.g., in the case that the UE is handed over to the second NE.

[0043] Aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of a wireless communications system.

[0044] Figure 1 illustrates an example of a wireless communications system 100 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more NE 102, one or more UE 104, and a core network (CN) 106. The wireless communications system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a NR network, such as a 5G network, a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network, or a 5G ultrawideband (5G-UWB) network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G, for example, 6G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0045] The one or more NE 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100. One or more of the NE 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a network function, a network entity, a radio access network (RAN) , a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. An NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0046] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas may be associated with different NE 102.

[0047] The one or more UE 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, a transmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0048] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0049] An NE 102 may support communications with the CN 106, or with another NE 102, or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with other NE 102 or the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links (e.g., S1, N2, N3, or network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the CN 106. In some implementations, one or more NE 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0050] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NE 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0051] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0052] In the wireless communications system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0053] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0054] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0055] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0056] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0057] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0058] Herein, "measurements" or the like may correspond to or relate to various L1 / L3 measurement and event predictions. The following terminologies are used to distinguish different types of L1 / L3 measurement and event predictions (may be referred to as "predictions" or the like for simplification) : L3 beam measurement prediction: the beam level measurement prediction that is the  prediction of beam quality (e.g., RSRP) after applying L3 filtering; L3 cell measurement prediction: the cell level measurement prediction that is the  prediction of cell quality (e.g., RSRP) after applying L3 filtering; L3 event prediction: including events A1, A2, A3 …currently specified in the  3GPPspecification, as well as, radio link failure (RLF) event, and handover failure event; and being determined by the radio resource control (RRC) protocol layer; L1 beam measurement prediction: the beam level measurement prediction that is the  prediction of beam quality after applying L1 filtering; L1 channel state information (CSI) measurement prediction: the CSI level measurement  prediction that is the prediction of CSI after applying L1 filtering; L1 event prediction: e.g., if the L1 beam quality is above or below a RSRP threshold for  a certain time. L3 beam measurement prediction, L3 cell measurement prediction or a combination thereof  may be referred to as L3 beam and / or cell measurement prediction (or L3 beam / cell measurement prediction) . L1 beam measurement prediction, L1 CSI measurement prediction, or a combination thereof may be referred to as L1 beam and / or CSI measurement prediction (or L1 beam / CSI measurement prediction) .

[0060] In some scenarios in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure (e.g., UE sided AI / ML model scenarios) , besides the measurements configured by the network side, e.g., by the first NE serving the UE, UE may be interested in (or concern or the like) certain measurements. For example, UE may be interested in certain beam (s) and / or cells, and would like to measure the interested beam (s) and / or cell (s) ; or the UE may be interested in certain existing measurement (s) and / or measurement and event prediction (s) , and would like to further perform the existing measurement (s) or measurement (s) corresponding to the existing measurement and event prediction (s) , e.g., in the case of handover. The results of the interested measurements can be used for various purposes, e.g., monitoring UE sided AI / ML models etc.

[0061] Considering that, the network side may allow or support UE interested measurements. For example, the network side may transmit indication information to UE, indicating that the UE is allowed to request configurations for UE interested measurements. In some cases, it may be default or predefined that UE is allowed to request configurations for UE interested measurements. If the allowed UE has any interested measurements, the UE may indicate the interested measurements to the network side, so that the network side may configure the UE to perform the interested measurements.

[0062] If an inter handover occurs, the source NE, e.g., the first NE, may indicate the UE interested measurements to the target NE, e.g., the second NE when triggering the inter handover, e.g., in the handover request message, so that the target NE may know the UE interested measurements. It is up to the target NE implementation to decide whether to configure the indicated UE interested measurements to UE and / or which interested measurement (s) is configured. The target NE may not allow or support UE to request interested measurements, or fail to provide part or all of the required measurement configurations due to other reasons. If the target NE configures part or all of the UE interested measurements to the UE, the UE may have the chance to perform the interested measurements after the inter handover. It is useful for the UE in some scenarios, e.g., UE sided AI / ML model monitoring.

[0063] Persons skilled in the art should well know that UE requesting the network side to configure interested measurements is different from current UE requesting measurement configurations for training data collection, which does not link to any existing or on-going measurement and / or prediction.

[0064] Some exemplary implementations of the present disclosure are illustrated below under the scenarios of inter-handover. If an intra handover occurs, the UE is still served by the same NE, e.g., the first NE, that is, the source NE and target NE are the same one and there is no interaction between the source NE and target NE. The communications between the first NE and the UE and that between the second NE and the UE are also applicable under the scenarios of intra-handover.

[0065] Figure 2 illustrates an example of a procedure of supporting UE interested measurements in a mobility scenario in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure.

[0066] Herein, it is assumed that the UE is an AI / ML capable UE with one or multiple AI / ML models. It is also assumed that, before a handover, the UE has been already configured by the source NE, e.g., gNB#1 to perform certain L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction concerning certain beam (s) and / or cell (s) . Although only UE sided AI / ML model monitoring are considered in the illustrated implementations, persons skilled in the art would well know that such a procedure of supporting UE interested measurements in the case of an inter handover can also be applicable for other purposes or uses.

[0067] Referring to Figure 2, at step 201, a first NE serving the UE, e.g., gNB#1 may configure the UE to perform L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction, e.g., L1 / L3 beam measurement prediction of beam#1 and beam#2. The first NE, e.g., gNB#1 may also configure the UE to perform measurements related to the L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction, e.g., measurements on beam #1 and beam#2 related to the prediction.

[0068] In some cases, gNB#1 may also configure or determine indication information on whether the UE is allowed to request configurations of interested measurements, e.g., measurements of beams (s) and / or cell (s) related to the prediction. In some implementations of the present disclosure, the indication information may be a part of the configuration related to prediction, e.g., in RRC OtherConfig IE or the like to the UE. In some cases, regardless of whether the UE is allowed, the corresponding indication information may be sent to the UE. In some cases, if the indication information indicating that the UE is not allowed, gNB#1 may not send the indication information to the UE. That is, only if the UE is allowed to request configurations of interested measurements, the indication information may be sent to the UE. In some implementations of the present disclosure, whether the UE is allowed by a NE to request configuration of interested measurements is default or predefined. Herein, it is assumed that the UE is allowed to request configurations of interested measurements, which is either configured by gNB#1 or default.

[0069] Based on the L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction configurations received at step 201, the UE may perform the configured L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction. For example, UE sided AI / ML models may generate or output predicted radio link quality results, e.g., predicted cell quality results (or cell level results or the like) and / or beam quality results (or beam level results or the like) in any of the temporal domain, the spatial domain or frequency domain, or a combination thereof. UE may report the L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction results to gNB#1, e.g., via a CSI report or RRC measurement report message or the like.

[0070] If measurements related to the configured predictions are also configured, UE may also perform the measurements to monitor the UE sided AI / ML models. Besides, the UE may be interested in certain measurement (s) , which may not be configured by the network side, or may be configured and the UE wants to further perform certain measurement (s) considering mobility etc., e.g., after an inter handover. For example, since the UE may apply different measurement configurations after being handed over to a target cell (intra gNB or inter gNB) , which no longer configures the UE to measure the beam (s) and / cell (s) that the UE has predicted, the UE cannot tell if the previously made time domain RRM measurement or RRM / RLF event prediction is correct or not. To avoid that, the UE may indicate to the network side measurements corresponding to the concerned beam (s) and cell (s) as interested measurements, or indicate to the network side measurements corresponding to the existing measurement configurations and / or prediction configurations as interested measurements (which also relate to beams and / or cells being measured) .

[0071] For the interested measurements, the UE may send a configuration request to gNB#1 to request the corresponding configurations at step 203, e.g., via a UE assistance information (UAI) message at step 203a or via a message carrying the predicted results at step 203b. For example, if the UE receives the indication information indicating that the UE is allowed in RRCOtherConfig or the like, UE may trigger a RRC UE UEAssistanceInformation message, indicating UE’s interest to measure certain beam (s) and / or cell (s) that are relevant to the configured L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction. For another example, when the UE reports the L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction results to gNB#1, UE may also indicate UE’s interest to measure certain beam (s)  / cell (s) that are relevant to the configured L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction.

[0072] The configuration request may indicate information associated with interested measurements in various manners, e.g., candidate beams interested by the UE (e.g., information related to UE interested beams) ; candidate cells interested by the UE (e.g., information related to UE interested cells) ; existing measurement configurations interested by the UE (e.g., information related to existing measurement configurations that the UE is interested to further measure or perform) ; or existing prediction configurations interested by the UE (e.g., information related to existing prediction configurations that the UE is interested to further measure or perform) , or any combination thereof etc.

[0073] For example, the information related to UE interested beams may indicate the beam ID (or index) that the UE is interested to measure. An exemplary beam may be represented by a beam index, or SS / PBCH Block (SSB) index, or CSI-RS resource indicator etc. The information related to UE interested cells may indicate the cell ID (index) that the UE is interested to measure. An exemplary cell may be represented by a physical cell ID, or a combination of physical cell ID and an absolute radio frequency channel number, or a global cell ID etc. In some cases, UE may refer to an existing measurement configuration or measurement prediction configuration, and may indicate information related to the existing measurement configuration or measurement prediction configuration, which may be L1 measurement and / or event related, or L3 measurement and / or event related. For L3 measurement and / or event related measurement configuration or measurement prediction configuration, UE may indicate a measurement configuration, e.g., by MeasId, or a measurement object (e.g., a beam or cell) , e.g., by MeasObjectId, or an event, e.g., by ReportConfigId or the like. For L1 measurement and / or event related measurement configuration or measurement prediction configuration, UE may indicate a CSI-RS or SSB resource, e.g., by CSI-ResourceConfigId, or indicate a CSI reporting configuration, e.g., by CSI-ReportConfigId.

[0074] In some cases, UE may intend to perform the interested measurements at preferred time, and may indicate to gNB#1 the time information related to the requested or interested measurement configuration, e.g., when to start the interested measurements and / or how long the interested measurements will be. For example, the time information may indicate that UE intends to perform measurements on beam#3 after sending the configuration request message, or intend to perform measurements on beam#1 after a handover execution (if any) by indicating a time duration or time offset value related to the interested measurements, e.g., in milliseconds. For example, if UE would like to continue performing an interested measurement in 400 milliseconds after handover, the time information may indicate the 400 milliseconds by a time duration with the start and end time or by a time offset value relative to the time of sending the handover request message. In some cases, time information related to interested measurements, e.g., when to start the interested measurements may be configured by the network side or predefined.

[0075] Based on the configuration request information, gNB#1 may determine configurations for the UE interested measurements in some cases, e.g., there is no existing configurations for the interested measurements. Herein, considering monitoring in a mobility scenario, UE shall continue measuring the same beam and / or cell that has been configured to be predicted previously. In the case of an intra handover, since the UE is still served by gNB#1, gNB#1 may determine the configurations for the UE interested measurements as requested and ensure the monitoring continuity. In the case of an inter handover from gNB#1 to a second NE, e.g., gNB#2, gNB#1 needs to provide the information related to the UE interested measurements for gNB#2, which is based on the configuration request. For example, if gNB#1 decides to trigger an inter-gNB handover from gNB#1 to gNB#2, e.g., based on UE measurement reports or measurement prediction reports, gNB#1 may send UE interested measurement related information to gNB#2 in a handover request message at step 205. The UE interested measurement related information is similar to the information indicated by the configuration request provided by the UE and will not repeat herein.

[0076] After receiving the UE interested measurement related information, e.g., information related to UE interested beam (s) and / or cell (s) , the target gNB, gNB#2 may attempt to configure the UE to measure the interested beam (s) and / or cell (s) after the UE is handed over to the target cell, taking into account the existing measurement configuration configured at the source gNB. For example, gNB#2 may explicitly configure the UE to keep evaluating concerned RRM event, e.g., A3, by indicating the ReportConfigId to be continued. Then, UE will continue the relevant on-going RRM event evaluation, e.g., without restarting any time-to-trigger timer.

[0077] At step 207, the target NE, e.g., gNB#2 may transmit the configuration information related to UE interested measurements, e.g., measurement configurations on beams (or candidate beams) interested by the UE, measurement configurations on cells (or candidate cells) interested by the UE etc., in a handover request acknowledge message (or referred to as a handover command) to the source NE, e.g., gNB#1. gNB#1 may transmit the configuration information related to UE interested measurements in a RRC reconfiguration message to the UE at step 209, which is included in the handover request acknowledge message for UE to execute the handover. Accordingly, the UE may perform the interested measurements after being handed over to gNB#2 from gNB#1, and may continue monitoring the UE sided AI / ML models.

[0078] In some scenarios (regardless of whether a handover occurs) , UE may not be interested in part or all of the previously requested interested measurements anymore, e.g., for the sake of monitoring. The UE may trigger an uplink signaling or message, e.g., a RRC UAI message to indicate measurements that UE is no longer interested in to the network side, e.g., to gNB#1 in the case of no handover or intra handover, or to gNB#2 in the case of inter handover. For example, at step 211, the UE may send a message to gNB#2 to indicate measurements in which the UE has lost interest. Whether to de-configure the measurement configurations that UE has lost interest is dependent on the network side discretion.

[0079] In some scenarios in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure (e.g., network sided AI / ML model scenarios) , if the UE is handed over from a source NE, e.g., the first NE to a target NE, e.g., the second NE, the source NE may be still interested in or concern certain measurement (s) configured for the UE (first NE or source NE interested measurements) , and need the results of the first NE interested measurements. The source NE may also indicate information related to the first NE interested measurements to the target NE, so that the first NE interested measurements can be measured and the measurement results can be collected from the UE via the second NE. For example, a source NE, e.g., source gNB may have made RRM measurement prediction based on the measurement results reported from a UE before triggering an inter-gNB handover for the UE. Since the source NE cannot receive measurement results from the UE after handing over the UE to the target NE, e.g., a target gNB, the source NE cannot tell if the previously made RRM measurement prediction is correct or not. To solve this issue, the source gNB may request the target gNB to continue configuring the UE to measure certain beam (s) and / or cell (s) after the handover and provide the UE measurement results back to the source gNB.

[0080] Figure 3 illustrates an example of a procedure of supporting source NE interested measurements in a mobility scenario in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure.

[0081] Referring to Figure 3, before an inter handover for the UE served by an AI / ML capable first NE, e.g., gNB#1, it is assumed that gNB#1 has configured the UE to perform measurements, and perform RRM measurement prediction based on the measurement results reported from the UE.

[0082] Also before the inter handover from the first NE to a second NE, e.g., gNB#2, at step 301, gNB#1 may send a message to gNB#2 to indicate a request of measurement results after the inter handover. The request may be a general request without any specific information related to the interested measurements after handover. For example, gNB#1 may trigger a data collection reporting initiation procedure and send a data collection request message or the like to gNB#2 to indicate a request of measurement results after the inter handover. In some implementations of the present disclosure, the data collection request message may indicate the request of measurement results after the inter handover by a bit, e.g., in the report characteristics for data collection information element (IE) or the like in the data collection request message. In some cases, the first NE, e.g., gNB#1 may also indicate information associated with the first NE interested measurements, e.g., a time duration associated with first NE interested measurements or a periodicity of reporting first NE interested measurements. If the data collection request message indicates such a time duration, gNB#2 may configure the UE to perform the measurements, e.g., measure, log or report L1 / L3 beam and / or cell measurements within the time duration. The first NE, e.g., gNB#1 may also include an ID associated with the request of measurement results after the inter handover (may be referred to as a measurement ID) , which may be used as a reference ID between the first NE and the second NE to refer to the data collection request at step 301.

[0083] If the request from the first NE is accepted, the second NE may send a response to indicate the acceptance, e.g., by responding a data collection response message at step 303 with or without an explicit indication in the data collection response message. Herein, it is assumed that the request is accepted by the second NE, e.g., gNB#2.

[0084] If gNB#1 decides to trigger an inter handover from gNB#1 to gNB#2, e.g., based on UE measurement reports or measurement prediction reports, gNB#1 may transmit first NE interested measurement related information to gNB#2, e.g., in a handover request message at step 305. For example, the first NE interested measurement related information may be conveyed in an inter-node handover preparation information RRC message, which may be further contained in a handover request message.

[0085] The first NE interested measurement related information may include information related to first NE interested beams, information related to first NE interested cells, information related to types of first NE interested measurements, a time duration associated with first NE interested measurements; or a periodicity of first NE interested measurement or log instances (one measurement or log instance means once measurement or log) or a combination thereof. In some cases, the first NE interested measurement related information may also indicate information related to the request indication of measurement results of after the inter handover, e.g., including the ID associated with the request indication sent at step 301.

[0086] Regarding the information related to first NE interested beams, and the information related to first NE interested cells, they are similar to UE interested measurement related information. For example, the information related to the first NE interested beams may indicate the beam ID (or index) that the first NE is interested to request UE to measure. The information related to the first NE interested cells may indicate the cell ID (index) that the first NE is interested to request UE to measure. In some cases, the information related to first NE interested beams and information related to first NE interested cells may refer to the existing measurement configurations or measurement prediction configurations, which may be L1 measurement and / or event related, or L3 measurement and / or event related. For L3 measurement and / or event related measurement configuration or measurement prediction configuration, the first NE may indicate a measurement configuration, e.g., by MeasId, or a measurement object (e.g., a beam or cell) , e.g., by MeasObjectId, or an event, e.g., by ReportConfigId or the like. For L1 measurement and / or event related measurement configuration or measurement prediction configuration, the first NE may indicate a CSI-RS or SSB resource, e.g., by CSI-ResourceConfigId, or indicate a CSI reporting configuration, e.g., by CSI-ReportConfigId.

[0087] Regarding the time duration associated with first NE interested measurements, it may indicate a time duration of the measurement after handover in some cases.

[0088] Regarding the information related to types of first NE interested measurements, it may indicate Top K (K>=1) beam and / or cell index, or RSRP of Top K beams and / or cells, or RSPR of all available beams / cells, or RSPP of specific beam (s)  / cell (s) .

[0089] Based on the received first NE interested measurement related information, the target NE, e.g., gNB#2 may configure the UE to perform the measurement interested or requested by the source NE, e.g., gNB#1. Similarly, it is up to the target NE implementation to decide whether to configure the indicated first NE interested measurements to UE and / or which interested measurement (s) is configured. If the target NE, e.g., gNB#2 configure part or all of the first NE interested measurement, gNB#2 may send the first NE interested measurement related configuration information to UE via gNB#1, e.g., in a handover request acknowledge message (or a handover command) firstly to gNB#1 at step 307, which includes the RRC reconfiguration message for UE to execute the handover. The source NE, e.g., gNB#1 may further transmit the RRC reconfiguration message including the first NE interested measurement related configuration information to the UE at step 309. The first NE interested measurement related configuration information may include measurement configurations on beams interested by the first NE, or measurement configurations on cells interested by the first NE, or a combination thereof, e.g., the L1 / L3 beam and cell measurements.

[0090] After a successful handover execution, the UE may measure the first NE interested beams and / or cells, log and report to the target NE, e.g., gNB#2 based on the first NE interested measurement related configuration information. After receiving the measurement results reported from the UE at step 311, gNB#2 may further send them to gNB#1 at step 313, e.g., via a data collection update message or the like.

[0091] Above exemplary implementations in accordance with various aspects of the present application are illustrated respectively considering scenarios of UE sided AI / ML models and scenarios of network sided AI / ML models for clarity. However, persons skilled in the art should well know that there may be both UE sided AI / ML models and network sided AI / ML models in some scenarios, and the technical solutions illustrated separately in view of scenarios of UE sided AI / ML models and scenarios of network sided AI / ML models are still applicable, the related information may be transmitted together, and will not repeat.

[0092] In addition, in a mobility scenario of inter handover, the RRM measurement prediction or the like made by either UE or source NE may be still useful for the target NE. For example, the target NE may use the received L1 / L3 beam and / or cell measurement prediction results for its own purposes, e.g., configuring random access after the handover considering the best predicted beam, or configuring SCells in carrier aggregation (CA) after the handover considering the predicted cell quality etc. Considering that, some aspects of the present disclosure propose an inter node signaling design for the source NE to transfer the RRM measurement prediction to the target NE.

[0093] For example, it is assumed that when a first NE (the source NE in the inter handover) , e.g., gNB#1 shown in Figure 2 or 3 decides to trigger a handover of a UE to a second NE (the target NE in the inter handover) , e.g., gNB#2 as shown in Figure 2 or 3, the source NE may have available L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction results, which may be either predicted by the source NE using a network sided model, or predicted by UE using a UE-sided model and reported to the source NE.

[0094] The available L1 / L3 measurement and event prediction results may be still valid for a time period after the handover. When the handover is triggered for the UE, the source NE, e.g., gNB#1 may first determine which of the received prediction results is still valid, and how long it will remain valid.

[0095] Figure 4 illustrates an example of calculating or determining validity time of prediction results in accordance some aspects of the present disclosure.

[0096] Referring to Figure 4, it is assumed that a UE, e.g., the UE as shown in Figure 2 or 3 may be configured by a NE, e.g., gNB#1 to perform L3 cell measurement prediction for the future 800ms. Based on the related configuration, at t1, the UE may make a prediction for the future 800ms, e.g., predicted cell RSRP at t4, and UE may report the predicted result to the source NE, e.g., gNB#1 at t2. When the UE reports the prediction result to gNB#1, the UE may not indicate any explicit time information related to the prediction results, and gNB#1 can understand that from the related configuration. In some other cases, the UE may indicate a time offset value, e.g., 700ms, to gNB#1, implying that the prediction results are valid for 700ms after the associated reporting is transmitted at t2. It is assumed that gNB#1 decides to trigger an inter handover for the UE at t3, which is 300ms after t2, and then gNB#1 may determine that the prediction results will be still valid for 400ms.

[0097] For the prediction results that will be valid after the handover, the source NE may transfer the prediction results to the target NE in an Xn message together with associated validity time information. In other word, for the prediction results transferring from the source NE to the target NE, the source NE will have to process the received prediction results instead of transparently forwarding the results received from UE to the target NE.

[0098] Exemplary validity time information may be a time offset value, e.g., in milliseconds, indicating that the prediction results will remain valid for the time duration given by the time offset value after the Xn message carrying the prediction results is received, e.g., 400ms.

[0099] Exemplary Xn message carrying the prediction results and the associated validity time information is various, e.g., a handover request message, or a new or existing XnAP message from source gNB to target gNB after a handover request and before the UE context release. In some implementations of the present disclosure, in the case of using a handover request message, the prediction results and related validity time information may be conveyed by a RRM-Config IE or the like in an inter-node handover preparation information RRC message, which may be further contained in the handover request message.

[0100] An exemplary handover preparation information RRC message, e.g., HandoverPreparationInformation is shown below. It can be seen that, the prediction result and related validity time information may be contained in the candidateCellInfoList IE as a part of the MeasResultList2NR within the RRM-Config IE. In some cases, new IE (s) may be introduced to convey the prediction results.
