Abstract
Description
[0001] Holding device for holding blister product packaging with an ESL unit
[0002] Technical field
[0003] The present invention relates to a holding device and a method for holding product packaging with an electronic display device. Furthermore, the invention relates to the electronic display device and a system for managing product packaging information.
[0004] Background of the invention
[0005] Especially in retail, products are packaged in so-called blister packs, allowing the consumer to see the product inside. These blister packs are often referred to as such. In a typical blister pack, the product is presented in front of a cardboard backing, usually printed with information, and secured with a molded plastic film insert. In some blister packs, the backing is also made of plastic film, while in the case of pharmaceuticals, it is often aluminum foil.
[0006] The product packaging features openings for inserts and can be slid onto standardized holders or carriers (such as Euroslot) to facilitate presentation and inventory management. Product information and prices can also be displayed on electronic display units, known as "Electronic Shelf Label" units (ESL units). These ESL units have a display screen capable of showing different and changing information. Furthermore, ESL units can be powered internally (by battery) or connected to an external power source.
[0007] These ESL units can be mounted on a carrier assembly (so-called blister holder), allowing product information, such as the product price, to be viewed by the consumer. When a blister pack is removed, the ESL unit flips over, allowing the blister pack to be detached from the blister holder. The number of blister packs on a blister holder can be determined by the retailer through manual counting or inventory.
[0008] Description of the invention
[0009] It is an object of the present invention to determine the quantity of product packaging on a support rod arrangement.
[0010] This problem is solved by a holding device and a method for holding product packaging with an electronic display device, the electronic display device itself, and a system for managing product packaging information according to the independent claims. According to a first aspect of the invention, a device for holding product packaging is described. The device has a support rod arrangement configured such that the support rod arrangement can be inserted through receiving openings in product packaging, allowing the product packaging to be slid onto and arranged one after the other on the support rod arrangement.Furthermore, the device comprises an electronic display device including a display screen for viewing product information and at least one detection sensor, wherein the electronic display device is attached to the support rod assembly such that when a product package is slid onto or off the support rod assembly, the electronic display device can be guided through the receiving opening of the product package. The detection sensor is configured to detect the product package passing the electronic display device, so that the quantity of product packages on the support rod assembly can be detected.
[0011] According to a further aspect of the invention, an electronic display device for displaying product information is described. The electronic display device comprises a display screen for viewing product information and at least one detection sensor, and is attachable to a support rod assembly. The support rod assembly is designed such that it can be inserted through receiving openings in product packaging, allowing the product packaging to be slid and arranged one after the other on the support rod assembly. The electronic display device can be attached to a support rod arrangement in such a way that, when a product package is pushed onto or off the support rod arrangement, the electronic display device can be guided through the receiving opening of the product package and the detection sensor is configured to detect the product package passing the electronic display device, so that the number of product packages on the support rod arrangement can be detected.
[0012] According to a further aspect, a method for holding product packaging, in particular using the device described above, is described. The method includes the step of inserting a support rod arrangement through receiving openings of product packaging, so that the product packaging is pushed onto and arranged one after the other on the support rod arrangement. An electronic display device comprising a display screen for viewing product information is attached to the support rod assembly in such a way that when a product package is pushed onto or off the support rod assembly, the electronic display device can be guided through the receiving opening of the product package and a detection sensor of the electronic display device can detect the product package passing the electronic display device, so that an inventory of product packages on the support rod assembly is recorded.
[0013] According to the present invention, the product packaging is attached to and held on a support rod assembly. Each product package has a receiving opening through which the support rod assembly can be inserted. The product packaging can be transparent packaging (in particular blister packs), allowing consumers to see the packaged products through the packaging. The receiving opening of a product package is designed such that the support rod assembly can pass through it completely or at least partially. Simultaneously, the receiving opening is designed such that, when the product packaging is attached to and removed from the support rod assembly, the electronic display device described in more detail below can be guided through the receiving opening. The receiving opening can be a closed opening.Alternatively, the receiving opening can also be formed by an open contour of the product packaging. For example, the product packaging can form a receiving hook, with the receiving opening located inside this hook. The receiving opening can have any cross-sectional shape, such as a round, oval, or rectangular cross-section.
[0014] The support rod assembly forms, in particular, a longitudinally extending support on which a multitude of product packages can be arranged by sliding the product packages, with their receiving opening, onto the support rod assembly. The support rod assembly can, for example, be attached to a shelf or a building wall. The support rod assembly has, for example, at least one support rod. In the embodiments described below, the support rod assembly can have two or more support rods. The support rod assembly can be made, in particular, of metal, plastic, or natural materials such as wood.
[0015] The electronic display device, which is in particular an "Electronic Shelf Label" unit (ESL unit), has a base body or frame that completely or partially surrounds the functional units of the display device. The base body can, for example, be designed as a housing and may include as functional units a power supply unit (battery), an internal control unit (microprocessor, CPU), and / or communication units (transmitter and / or receiver units). The base body also surrounds the display screen of the display device without covering it, so that the display device can be viewed from the outside. The base body is made in particular of a solid material, such as metal (aluminum) or plastic.
[0016] The electronic display device can, for example, be controlled by an external control unit, allowing various images (price information, product information) to be displayed on the screen. Furthermore, the electronic display device can transmit product information to the external control unit, such as the number of product packages that have been slid onto or pulled off the carrier rod assembly.
[0017] The electronic display device is furthermore attached to the support rod assembly in such a way that a consumer can view the display screen and read the product information shown on it as they pass the holding device. In particular, the electronic display device is attached to a free end of the support rod assembly. Thus, the electronic display device is positioned at the frontmost point of the free end of the support rod assembly, while the individual product packages are arranged along the support rod assembly behind the electronic display device.
[0018] The electronic display device is designed such that it can be guided through the receiving opening of the product packaging being held. In other words, while a product package is being slid onto the support bar assembly, the electronic display device can also be guided through the receiving opening. Thus, when the product package is slid onto the support bar assembly, it passes through the display device via its receiving opening. Similarly, when the product package is removed from the support bar assembly, it also passes through the electronic display device.
[0019] The electronic display device can be permanently attached to the support rod assembly, allowing it to be guided through the receiving opening while the product packaging is being opened and closed. The size of the circumference or contour of the electronic display device can be adapted to the receiving opening of the product packaging being held. Alternatively, as explained in more detail in the embodiments shown below, the electronic display device can be movably attached to the support rod assembly. In this case, for example, when the product packaging is being opened and closed, the electronic display device can be moved into a guide position (e.g., by pivoting) in which it can be guided through the receiving opening. For example, the electronic display device can initially be in a display position (e.g., due to gravity) where the display screen is easily visible to a user. In particular, the largest surface of the electronic display device in this display position is almost perpendicular to the direction of extension of the support rod assembly (where the direction of extension can be defined between a mounting point of the support rod assembly and the free end). In other words, the largest surface lies in a plane whose normal is parallel to the direction of extension of the support rod assembly. In the feedthrough position of the electronic display device, it is positioned such that the normal of a plane in which the largest surface of the electronic display device lies forms an angle (in particular, a right angle) with the direction of extension. The detection sensor is designed to detect the passage of a product package relative to the electronic display device. The detection sensor can, in particular, detect the passage of the product package relative to the electronic display device (especially when the electronic display device is in the feed-through position) by means of physical contact with the support rod assembly or the product package. Alternatively or additionally, the detection sensor can be configured to detect a contactless proximity position of the detection sensor with the product package and / or the support rod assembly. For example, if the electronic display device is in the feed-through position, the distance between the detection sensor and the product packaging and / or the support rod assembly is at its smallest, so that the passing of the product packaging relative to the electronic display device and thus the attaching or detaching of the product packaging from or onto the support rod assembly can be detected.
[0020] By determining when a product package passes the electronic display device when it is placed on or removed from the carrier bar assembly, it is possible to ascertain how many product packages are on the carrier bar assembly. The approach of the present invention thus enables automatic inventory control, which generally simplifies merchandise management and inventory determination of product packages on corresponding carrier bar assemblies. It is therefore no longer necessary to manually count the individual product packages on carrier bar assemblies to perform an inventory. According to a further exemplary embodiment, the detection sensor comprises a mechanical sensor configured to detect the passing of the product packages by means of contact with the product packaging and / or the carrier bar assembly. The mechanical sensor is specifically designed as a microswitch, microswitch, or contact button. For example, the mechanically designed detection sensor can form a corresponding spring-loaded microswitch, microswitch, or contact element, which is pressed in by contact with the product packaging and / or the support rod assembly, thereby generating a signal contact to detect the passage of a product package. It is possible that, as the product packaging passes, the mechanical sensor is contacted directly at the circumference of the receiving opening. Furthermore, it is possible that, as the product packaging passes, the electronic display device is moved into the insertion position, in which the mechanical sensor is pressed against the support rod assembly.
[0021] According to another exemplary embodiment, the detection sensor includes an electronic sensor for detecting the passing of the product packaging. The electronic sensor is, in particular, a photodetector, a radar sensor, an accelerometer, or a ToF sensor, where ToF stands for "Time of Flight".
[0022] The detection sensor can incorporate an accelerometer to detect the orientation of the electronic display device. For example, a photodetector can be an optical or optoelectric sensor, converting light into an electrical signal using the photoelectric effect or exhibiting an electrical resistance dependent on the incident radiation. This allows, for instance, the measurement of a darkening of the sensor area caused by passing through product packaging, thus determining the inventory on the support rod assembly. Furthermore, the electronic sensor can determine on which side of the sensor area the darkening occurred first and, correspondingly, on which side of the sensor area it last occurred. This allows for the determination of changes in the degree of darkening over the sensor area detectable by the electronic sensor, thus enabling the determination of the direction from which the product packaging passes the electronic display device. For example, if a product package is pulled down from the holding rod arrangement over the electronic display device, a specific side of the sensor area will darken first. Conversely, if a product package is pushed onto the holding rods over the electronic display device, an opposite side of the sensor area will darken. This allows for the precise determination of whether a product package is being removed from or added to the holding rod arrangement. Accordingly, an accurate inventory of product packages at a holding rod arrangement can be carried out and monitored.Similar to a photodetector, a ToF sensor (for example, a ToF camera) can be used. ToF sensors are 3D camera systems that measure distances using the time-of-flight (ToF) method. The scene is illuminated with a light pulse, and the camera measures the time it takes for the light to travel to the product packaging and / or the support rod assembly and back for each pixel. The required time is directly proportional to the distance. The ToF sensor thus provides the distance to the reference object depicted at each pixel, i.e., the support rod assembly or the product packaging.
[0023] The acceleration sensor determines, in particular, the orientation of the electronic display device. This allows, for example, the determination of whether the electronic display device is in a display position or in the through-position. If the electronic display device is in the through-position, it can be assumed that a product package is being moved past the electronic display device, thus enabling an inference about the presence of the electronic display devices. Specifically, depending on the direction of movement of the electronic display device between the display position and the through-position, it can be determined whether a product package is being pushed onto or pulled down the carrier rod assembly.
[0024] Furthermore, radar sensors can also be used for electronic sensors, which determine the distance by measuring the time of flight of the radar waves between the detection sensor and the product packaging and / or the support rod arrangement, and can thus detect when product packaging has passed.
[0025] According to another exemplary embodiment, the electronic display device has a protective cover that covers at least sections of the electronic display device, with the detection sensor being covered by the protective cover. The detection sensors can be protected under a flexible protective cover, for example, a silicone cover. The covered area of the protective cover can be, for example, transparent to electrical or electromagnetic radiation from the electronic sensors. Furthermore, the covered area of the protective cover can also cover mechanical sensors by making the protective cover flexible, in particular elastically deformable. In particular, the protective cover can be optically opaque so that the sensor areas are not visually perceptible to a consumer from the outside.According to another exemplary embodiment, the electronic display device has at least one additional detection sensor, which is arranged at a distance from the detection sensor described above. The additional detection sensor can, for example, be of the same design as the detection sensor described above. This provides redundancy in case one of the detection sensors fails due to a defect. Furthermore, redundant measurements can contribute to optimizing measurement accuracy. The additional detection sensor can also be of a different design than the detection sensor described above. For example, the detection sensor can be a mechanical sensor, such as a microswitch, and the additional detection sensor can be an electronic sensor, such as a photodetector. Thus, for example, a contactless measurement can be carried out with the product packaging and / or the support rod arrangement using the additional detection sensor, whereas a contact measurement is carried out with the product packaging and / or the support rod arrangement using the detection sensor.
[0026] According to a further exemplary embodiment, the additional detection sensor is arranged relative to the detection sensor such that, when the product packaging is passed by the electronic display device through the receiving opening of the product packaging, the detection sensor and the additional detection sensor can be passed through one after the other. In particular, in the feed-through position of the electronic display device and in the extension direction of the support rod arrangement, the detection sensor and the additional detection sensor are arranged one behind the other.
[0027] This allows for different detection periods and locations during the insertion of the electronic display device through the receiving opening of the product packaging, so that the direction of passage of the product packaging relative to the support rod arrangement or the electronic display device can also be determined.
[0028] According to a further exemplary embodiment, the electronic display device has a rectangular cubic base with circumferential narrow sides, wherein the detection sensor and the further detection sensor are spaced apart along one narrow side such that the detection sensors can be passed sequentially when the product packaging is moved past. In particular, the electronic display device has two opposing main surfaces (surfaces) which are connected by circumferential narrow sides (edge regions). The display screen is arranged on one main surface so that it is visible to a consumer. The detection sensors are arranged along the narrow sides, in particular the long sides. For example, the main surfaces can have a rectangular contour which is designed such that in at least one orientation (i.e.,The electronic display device can be inserted through a receiving opening in the product packaging (in the implementation position). Specifically, the detection sensors are arranged along one of the long sides of the electronic display device, allowing the sequential detection of the product packaging as it passes by. Different long sides can also be used to prevent false detections. For example, one or more detection sensors can be arranged on opposite short sides (long sides). The detection sensors can be of different mechanical or electronic types.
[0029] The main page can also have one detection sensor or one and two detection sensors. The two detection sensors can also be distributed across the two main pages. If two detection sensors are present, one can be located near the top of the display screen and the other near the bottom to ensure sequential detection. When positioned on the main page, preferably at least one detection sensor is located on the main surface behind the display screen to prevent unintentional detection caused by a person moving in front of the display screen.
[0030] According to another exemplary embodiment, the support rod arrangement has a free end over which the product packaging can be slid on or off via the receiving openings.
[0031] According to another exemplary embodiment, the electronic display device is arranged at the free end. This ensures that the product packages first pass the electronic display device before being held on the support rod assembly.
[0032] According to a further exemplary embodiment, the electronic display device is pivotably arranged on the support rod assembly such that, as the product packaging is passed by, the electronic display device can be pivoted into an orientation (i.e., the insertion position) in which the electronic display device can be guided through the receiving opening of the product packaging. When the product packaging is placed onto the support rod assembly, the electronic display device can be moved in a first pivoting direction to achieve the insertion position, and when the product packaging is removed from the support rod assembly, it can be moved in a second pivoting direction, opposite to the first pivoting direction, to achieve a corresponding insertion position.Due to the design of the special sensor type of the detection sensor (for example, by means of a photosensor), due to the corresponding arrangement of at least two spaced-apart detection sensors, and due to an acceleration sensor as a detection sensor, the first and second swivel directions can be detected, or it can be determined whether a product package is being pushed onto or off the support rod arrangement.
[0033] According to another exemplary embodiment, the support rod arrangement comprises at least two spaced-apart and, in particular, parallel support rods, wherein the support rods are designed such that they can be inserted simultaneously through the receiving openings of the product packaging. With two parallel and spaced-apart support rods, both of which can be guided through the receiving opening of a product package, secure support and corresponding alignment of the product packaging can be ensured. Instead of two spaced-apart support rods, a single support rod can also be provided, which can be guided through the receiving openings of the product packaging and which forms a support surface for the product packaging. For example, the support rod can have a rectangular cross-section to form the support surface.
[0034] According to another exemplary embodiment, the support rods are spaced apart such that the display device can be arranged in an area between the support rods. In particular, the electronic display device can be pivotably arranged between the support rods so that when the product packaging is placed onto the support rods, the electronic display device is pivoted into the pass-through position and the detection sensor(s) can detect contact with or proximity to at least one of the support rods. Simultaneously, the electronic display device can be pivotably arranged so that when the product packaging is removed from the support rods, the electronic display device is pivoted into a pass-through position and the detection sensor(s) detect contact with or proximity to an inner surface.in the contour of the receiving opening of the product packaging.
[0035] According to another exemplary embodiment, the two support rods are connected at their free ends to a crossbeam, on which, in particular, the electronic display device (for example, pivotably) is arranged. The crossbeam enables a stiffer and more robust structure of the support rod assembly, as it reduces, for example, deformation or vibration of the support rods and the stiffening structure.
[0036] According to another exemplary embodiment of the electronic display device, it has a mounting tab through which a section of the support rod assembly can be positioned for mounting the electronic display device. The mounting tab can, for example, have an open cross-section and thus form a hook shape, so that the electronic display device can be attached to the support rod assembly. In particular, the electronic display device can be pivotably mounted on the crossbeam connecting the two support rods by means of the mounting tab. The mounting tab can, for example, be formed integrally by an opening (through-hole) in the base body of the electronic display device.
[0037] According to a further exemplary embodiment, the electronic display device has a fastening element which can be attached to a base body of the electronic display device, in particular detachably, and which forms the fastening tab. The fastening element can be attached to the electronic display device, for example, by means of a detachable fastener, such as a screw, or by means of an adhesive bond.
[0038] According to another exemplary embodiment, the fastening element has two fastening sections, each of which can be attached to opposite surfaces of the base body, with a connecting area of the fastening sections being spaced away from the base body to form the fastening tab. For example, one fastening section can be attached to a main surface and another fastening section to an opposite main surface of the electronic display device. The connecting area extends accordingly from a narrow side of the base body of the electronic display device to form the fastening tab.
[0039] According to another exemplary embodiment, the fastening element is designed such that the two fastening sections are elastically deformable relative to each other and are pre-tensioned when the base body of the electronic display device is positioned between them. Due to the pre-tensioning of the two elastically arranged fastening sections by the base body of the electronic display device, a clamping force is generated, resulting in a releasable fixation of the fastening element. For example, at least the connection area forming the fastening tab can be made of an elastic material, such as metal or a plastic compound. In a further exemplary embodiment, only the fastening sections can be made of an elastic material.Furthermore, the entire fastening element can also be manufactured monolithically from a single material, for example, metal or an elastic plastic. According to another exemplary embodiment, the fastening sections are designed with locking elements such that the locking elements can be engaged in corresponding receiving grooves in the base body of the electronic display device. In other words, the fastening element forms a fastening clip which is elastically deformed when the base body is inserted between the fastening sections, and upon reaching the receiving grooves in the base body, the locking elements can engage in these grooves. This prevents the base body from unintentionally detaching from the fastening element. Alternatively, only a single receiving groove can be provided, into which only a single locking element engages, or several locking elements can engage.
[0040] According to a further aspect of the invention, a system for managing product packaging information is described. The system comprises the device for holding product packaging described above and an external control unit. The electronic display device includes a communication module configured to exchange data concerning product information and / or the inventory of product packaging on the support rod arrangement with the control unit.
[0041] The electronic display device includes, for example, an internal control unit (microprocessor, CPU) and the communication module (for example, a transmitting and / or receiving unit).
[0042] The system's (external) control unit can be a central server, a mobile device, or a mobile reading device. Data can be exchanged between the electronic display and the system's control unit via the communication module. For example, relevant sensor data from the detection sensors can be transmitted to the control unit, allowing a management program installed on the control unit to determine and organize the inventory of packages. In other words, the electronic display can transmit product information to the external control unit, such as the number of product packages that have been slid onto or removed from the carrier bar assembly.Furthermore, the control unit can transmit control signals to the electronic display device, so that various image content (price information, product information) can be displayed on the display screen.
[0043] An internal control unit of the electronic display device can pre-evaluate the inventory data collected by the sensors and transmit this evaluation to a server as an external control unit. This ensures that the server always knows the current inventory level on the carrier bar assembly (e.g., blister holder). The electronic display device can combine the sensor data with other data, such as the time and / or sequence of occurrence (time of removal, time of refilling of product packaging on the carrier bar assembly), and transmit this information to the server. This allows the server to automatically determine the inventory level.
[0044] Furthermore, the electronic display device can include a storage module in which the inventory data of the product packaging, as detected by the sensors, can be stored. This allows the currently available inventory data to be read sequentially, i.e., at predetermined times, or as needed.
[0045] The control unit can, for example, act as a central server (access point), with a multitude of the electronic display devices described above connected to the control unit via a network for data exchange. This network can be implemented using mobile communication standards, WLAN, or other transmission technologies to transfer the relevant data between the control unit and the electronic display devices. In this way, for instance, a connection between the electronic display devices and the central server (the control unit) can be established via the internet, similar to cloud computing.
[0046] For example, data (inventory data or display data) can be transmitted to and from the electronic display devices via a wireless communication infrastructure within the building or business. This wireless communication infrastructure can also be used to query the current operating status of the electronic display devices, such as processing status, battery charge level, etc. Furthermore, this wireless communication infrastructure can be used to transmit recorded events, possibly along with other data, or the results of preliminary event analysis from the electronic display devices to the server.
[0047] Furthermore, the control unit can be integrated into a mobile reading device, allowing, for example, a person to read or scan the electronic displays on the corresponding carrier pole assemblies to obtain information about the inventory of product packaging on the carrier pole assembly. Alternatively, the control unit can be implemented as a mobile device, which can be used to read the inventory data, for example, via near-field communication (NFC) or WLAN.
[0048] It should be noted that the embodiments described here represent only a limited selection of possible embodiments of the invention. It is possible to combine the features of individual embodiments in a suitable manner, so that a multitude of different embodiments are considered to be obviously disclosed to the person skilled in the art with regard to the embodiments explicitly described here. In particular, some embodiments of the invention are described by apparatus claims and other embodiments by method claims. However, it will become immediately clear to the person skilled in the art upon reading this application that, unless explicitly stated otherwise, in addition to a combination of features belonging to one type of subject matter, any combination of features belonging to different types of subject matter is also possible.

[0058] Identical or similar components in different figures are identified by the same reference numbers. The representations in the figures are schematic.
[0059] Fig. 1 shows a perspective view and Fig. 2 shows a side view of a device 100 for holding product packages 120 according to an exemplary embodiment. The device 100 has a support rod arrangement 101, which is designed such that the support rod arrangement 101 can be inserted through receiving openings 121 of product packages 120, so that the product packages 120 can be slid one after the other onto the support rod arrangement 101 and arranged.Furthermore, the device 100 has an electronic display device 110 comprising a display screen 113 for viewing product information and at least one detection sensor 111, wherein the electronic display device 110 is attached to the support rod arrangement 101 such that when a product package 120 is slid onto or off the support rod arrangement 101, the electronic display device 110 can be guided through the receiving opening 121 of the product package 120 and the detection sensor 111 is configured to detect the product package 120 passing the electronic display device 110, so that a quantity of product packages 120 on the support rod arrangement 101 can be detected.
[0060] The product packages 120 are attached to and held on a support rod assembly 101. Each product package 120 has a receiving opening 121 through which the support rod assembly 101 can be inserted. The product packages 120 are, for example, transparent packaging (especially blister packs), allowing consumers to see the packaged products through the packaging. The receiving opening 121 of each product package is designed such that the support rod assembly 101 can be fully or at least partially inserted. Simultaneously, the receiving opening 121 is designed such that, when the product packages 120 are attached to and removed from the support rod assembly 101, the electronic display device 110 can be guided through the receiving opening 121.
[0061] The support rod assembly 101 forms, in particular, a longitudinally extending support on which the plurality of product packages 120 are arranged by sliding the product packages 120 with their receiving opening 121 onto the support rod assembly 101. The support rod assembly 101 can, for example, be attached to a shelf or a building wall. The support rod assembly 101 has at least two spaced-apart and, in particular, parallel support rods 103, wherein the support rods 103 are designed such that the support rods 103 can be inserted simultaneously through the receiving openings 121 of the product packages 120.
[0062] The support rods 103 are spaced apart such that the display device 110 can be positioned in an area between them. The two support rods 103 are connected at their free ends 102 by a crossbeam 104, on which the electronic display device 110 is mounted (for example, pivotably). The crossbeam 103 provides a stiffer and more robust structure for the support rod assembly 101.
[0063] The electronic display device 110, which is in particular an "Electronic Shelf Label" unit, or ESL unit for short, has a base body or frame that completely or partially surrounds the functional units of the display device 110. The base body can, for example, be designed as a housing and may include as functional units a power supply unit (battery), an internal control unit (microprocessor, CPU), and / or a communication module 702 (see Fig. 7) (transmitting and / or receiving units). The base body also surrounds the display screen 113 of the display device 110 without covering it, so that the display device 110 can be viewed from the outside.
[0064] The electronic display device 110 is attached to the support rod assembly 101 in such a way that a consumer can see the display screen 113 when passing the holding device 100 and can read the product information shown thereon. The electronic display device 110 is located at the foremost position at the free end 104 of the support rod assembly 101, while the individual product packages 120 are arranged behind the electronic display device 110 along the support rod assembly 101.
[0065] The electronic display device 110 is designed such that it can be guided through the receiving opening 121 of the product packaging 120 being held. In other words, while a product packaging 120 is being slid onto the support rod assembly 101, the electronic display device 110 can also be guided through the receiving opening 121. Thus, when the product packaging 120 is slid onto the support rod assembly 101, it passes through the display device 110 via its receiving opening 121. Similarly, when the product packaging 120 is removed from the support rod assembly 101, it also passes through the electronic display device 110.
[0066] The detection sensors 111, 112 are configured to detect the passage of a product package 120 relative to the electronic display device 110. The detection sensor 111, 112 can detect the passage of the product package 120 relative to the electronic display device 110, particularly when the electronic display device 110 is in a pass-through position, by means of physical contact with the support rod assembly 101 or the product package 120. Alternatively or additionally, the detection sensor 111, 112 can be configured to detect a contactless proximity position of the detection sensor 111, 112 with the product package 120 and / or the support rod assembly 101.For example, if the electronic display device 101 is in the feed-through position, the distance between the detection sensor 111, 112 and the product packaging 120 and / or the support rod arrangement 101 is at its smallest, so that the passing of the product packaging 120 relative to the electronic display device 101 and thus the attaching or detaching of the product packaging 120 from or onto the support rod arrangement 101 is detected.
[0067] By determining when a product package 120 passes the electronic display device 110 when it is placed on or removed from the support bar assembly 101, it is possible to determine how many product packages 120 are on the support bar assembly 101. This enables automatic inventory control, which generally facilitates merchandise management and inventory determination of the product packages 120 on the corresponding support bar assembly 101.
[0068] The detection sensors 111 and 112 are spaced apart. They can be of the same or different designs. The sensors are arranged such that when the product packaging 120 passes the electronic display device 110 through the receiving opening 121 of the packaging, the detection sensor 111 and the other detection sensor 112 pass through it sequentially and not simultaneously. Specifically, in the feed-through position of the electronic display device 101 and in the extension direction 301 (see Fig. 3) of the support rod assembly 101, the detection sensor 111 and the other detection sensor 112 are arranged one behind the other.
[0069] Thus, different detection times and detection locations can be enabled during the insertion of the electronic display device 110 through the receiving opening 121 of the product packaging 120, so that the direction of passage of the product packaging 120 relative to the support rod arrangement 101 or the electronic display device 110 can also be determined.
[0070] In the example shown, the electronic display device 110 has a rectangular cubic base with circumferential narrow sides 114. Along one of these narrow sides 114, the detection sensors 111 and 112 are spaced apart such that, as the product packaging 120 passes by, the detection sensors 111 and 112 can be passed sequentially. In particular, the electronic display device 110 has two opposing main surfaces (surfaces) connected by circumferential narrow sides 114 (edge regions). The display screen 113 is arranged on one of the main surfaces so that it is visible to a consumer. The detection sensors 111 and 112 are arranged along the narrow sides 114.
[0071] Fig. 3 shows a schematic representation of an electronic display device 110 in a feed-through position, in which a product package 120 is pushed onto the support rod arrangement 101. Fig. 4 shows a schematic representation of the electronic display device 110 in a feed-through position, in which a product package 120 is pushed off the support rod arrangement 101.
[0072] The electronic display device 110 is pivotably mounted on the support rod assembly 101 such that, as the product packaging 120 passes by, the electronic display device 110 can be pivoted into an orientation (i.e., into the insertion position) in which it can be guided through the receiving opening 121 of the product packaging 120. When the product packaging 120 is placed onto the support rod assembly 101, the electronic display device 110 can be moved in a first pivoting direction to achieve the insertion position. The electronic display device 110 is located, for example, between the support rods 103 (Fig. 3).
[0073] When the product packaging 120 is removed from the support rod assembly 101, the display device 101 is moved in a second pivoting direction, opposite to the first pivoting direction, in order to achieve a corresponding feed-through position (Fig. 4). The detection sensors 111, 112 detect contact with or proximity to an inner surface or contour of the receiving opening 121 of the product packaging 120.
[0074] For example, the electronic display device 110 can initially be in a display position (e.g., due to gravity) (see Fig. 1 and Fig. 2) in which the display screen 113 is easily visible to a user. In particular, the largest surface of the electronic display device 101 in the display position is almost perpendicular to a direction of extension 301 of the support rod arrangement (where the direction of extension 301 can be defined between a mounting point of the support rod arrangement 101 and the free end 104). In other words, the largest surface lies in a plane whose normal n is parallel to the direction of extension 301 of the support rod arrangement 101.In the implementation position of the electronic display device 110, it is positioned such that the normal n of a plane in which the largest surface of the electronic display device is located has an angle (in particular a right angle) to the extension direction 301.
[0075] Due to the exemplary design of the special sensor type of a single detection sensor 111 (for example by means of a photosensor), due to the corresponding arrangement of at least two spaced-apart 111, 112 detection sensors, and due to an accelerometer as a detection sensor 111, 112, the first and second swivel directions can be detected, or it can be determined whether a product packaging 120 is being pushed onto or off the support rod arrangement 101.
[0076] For example, the main surfaces of the electronic display device 110 can have a rectangular contour, which is designed such that in at least one orientation (i.e. the insertion position) the electronic display device 101 can be inserted through a receiving opening 121 of the product packaging 120.
[0077] Fig. 5 shows a schematic top view and Fig. 6 a schematic bottom view of an electronic display device 110 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0078] The electronic display device 110 has, for example, a protective cover which covers at least sections of the electronic display device 110, whereby the detection sensors 111, 112 may be covered by the protective cover.
[0079] The electronic display device 110 has a fastening element 501 which can be attached, in particular detachably, to a base body of the electronic display device 110 and forms a fastening tab 502. A section of the support rod assembly 101 can be positioned by means of the fastening tab 502 for fastening the electronic display device 110. In particular, the electronic display device 110 can be pivotably arranged on the crossbeam 104, which connects the two support rods 103, by means of the fastening tab 502. The fastening element 501 has two fastening sections 503, 504, which can each be attached to opposite surfaces on the base body of the electronic display device 110, with a connecting area of the fastening sections 503, 504 being spaced apart from the base body to form the fastening tab 502.For example, a fastening section 503 can be attached to one main surface and another fastening section 504 to an opposite main surface of the electronic display device 110. The connection area extends accordingly from a narrow side 114 of the base body of the electronic display device 110 to form the fastening tab 502.
[0080] The two fastening sections 503, 504 are elastically deformable relative to each other, and when the base body of the electronic display device 110 is positioned between the fastening sections 503, 504, these sections are pre-tensioned. Due to the pre-tensioning of the two elastically arranged fastening sections 503, 504, a clamping force is generated, thus creating a releasable fixation of the fastening element 501.
[0081] The fastening sections 503, 504 are designed with locking elements 601 such that the locking elements 601 can be engaged in corresponding receiving grooves 602 of the base body of the electronic display device 110. In other words, the fastening element 501 forms a fastening clip which is elastically deformed when the base body is inserted between the fastening sections 503, 504, and upon reaching the receiving grooves 602 in the base body, the locking elements 601 can engage in these receiving grooves 602. Fig. 7 shows a schematic representation of a system 700 for managing and transmitting information from product packaging 120 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. The system
[0082] The 700 includes the device 100 described above for holding product packaging 120 and an external control unit 701. The electronic display device 110 includes a communication module 702, which is configured to exchange data relating to product information and / or the inventory of product packaging 120 on the support rod arrangement 101 with the control unit 701.
[0083] The electronic display device includes, for example, an internal control unit (microprocessor, CPU) and the communication module 702 (for example, a transmitter and / or receiver unit). The electronic display device 110 can, for example, be controlled by the external control unit.
[0084] The electronic display device 110 can be controlled so that various image content (price information, product information) can be displayed on the display screen 113. Furthermore, the electronic display device 110 can transmit product information to the external control unit 701, for example, the number of product packages 120 that have been pushed onto or pulled down the carrier rod arrangement 101.
[0085] The (external) control unit 702 of the system can be a central server, a mobile device, or a mobile reading device. Data can be exchanged between the electronic display device 110 and the control unit 701 of the system 700 via the communication module 702. For example, relevant sensor data from the detection sensors 111 and 112 can be transmitted to the control unit 701, enabling a management program installed on the control unit 701 to determine and organize the inventory of product packaging 120 accordingly. The control unit 701 can, for example, act as a central server, with a multitude of the electronic display devices 101 described above connected to the control unit 701 via a network for data exchange. For example, the network can be configured using mobile communication standards, WLAN, or other transmission technologies to transfer relevant data between the control unit 701 and the electronic display devices 101. For instance, a connection between the electronic display devices 101 and the central server (control unit 701) can be established via the internet, similar to cloud computing. Furthermore, an input / output unit (I / O unit, e.g., a desktop computer, notebook, etc.) 703 can be connected to the server via a network, enabling a user to transmit relevant control data from the control unit 701 to the communication module 702 of the electronic display device 110.Accordingly, product information and inventory information of the product packaging 120 on the support rod arrangement 12 can be obtained from the electronic display device 110 via the control unit 701 and displayed on the input / output unit 703.
