Description

COMPOSITION FOR CLEANSING AND / OR CARING FOR KERATIN MATERIALSTechnical field

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a composition, preferably for cleansing and / or caring for keratin materials, preferably scalp and / or hair. The invention also relates to a method for cleansing and / or caring for keratin materials, preferably scalp and / or hair, using the composition of the present disclosure.Background

[0002] Keratin materials are present widely on surface of human bodies, e.g., skin, scalp, and hair. Many people have for a long time sought to clean and smooth the keratin materials, so as to feel comfortable in daily life and work. Various products, such as shampoo and conditioner, are developed to deal with the requirement of caring for keratin materials of person, many of which are used to bring deep and mild cleansing, repairing, and / or conditioning effects.

[0003] Cleansing of the keratin materials must be efficient enough because greasy residues, such as dirt, excess sebum, and presence of certain bacteria on scalp surface can result in an unpleasant oily appearance and / or itchy feeling. Shampoo is used to remove the dirt and lipid from the scalp and hair. Such a product that can bring deep and mild cleaning effect is expected to present a good foaming profile. On the other hand, consumers' expectation for shampoo products is not merely satisfied by cleansing effects. They also anticipate that the shampoo can deliver excellent conditioning effects, such as providing a smooth and silky sensation in the dry state, making the hair easier to comb.

[0004] Therefore, there is a need for a cosmetic composition, particularly shampoo, which provides abundant foam volume and / or delivers superior dry smoothness.Summary of the invention

[0005] The inventors have found that such a need can be achieved by the composition according to the present disclosure.

[0077] Preferably, the additional cationic polymer according to the present disclosure is a cationic galactomannan gum (cationic guar) . The term "cationic galactomannan gum" denotes any galactomannan gum containing cationic groups and / or groups ionizable into cationic groups.

[0078] Galactomannans are polysaccharides essentially composed of galactose and mannose units, wherein the mannose units are bound by a 1-4-glycoside bond and galactose branching takes place by means of a 1-6 bridge to the mannose units. Each ring of the galactose or mannose units (or sugar units) carries three free hydroxyl groups available for the chemical reaction. Galactomannans are generally found in the endosperm of the grains of legumes such as guar or carob.

[0079] The cationic galactomannan gums used generally have a weight-average molecular weight between about 500 and 5×106, and preferably between about 103 and 3×106.

[0080] The galactomannan gums suitable for use according to the present disclosure are for example gums including trialkyl (C1-C4) ammonium cationic groups. Preferably, 2%to 30%in number of the hydroxyl functions of these gums carry trialkylammonium cationic groups. Among these trialkylammonium groups, mention can very particularly be made of trimethylammonium and triethylammonium groups. Even more preferably, these groups represent from 5%to 20%by weight of the total weight of the modified galactomannan gum.

[0081] According to the present disclosure, the cationic galactomannan gum is preferably a guar gum including hydroxypropyl trialkylammonium groups, more preferably a guar gum including hydroxypropyl trimethylammonium groups, i.e., a guar gum modified for example with 2, 3-epoxypropyl trimethylammonium chloride.

[0082] These galactomannan gums in particular from guar modified by cationic groups are  products already known per se and are for example described in the patents US 3 589 578 and US 4 031 307. Such products are moreover sold particularly under the trade names Jaguar EXCEL, Jaguar C13 S, Jaguar C 15, Jaguar C 17, and Jaguar C162 (Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride) by Rhodia (SOLVAY) , under the name Guar (Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride) by Degussa, and under the name N- 3000 (Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride) by Aqualon.

[0083] Preferably, the additional cationic polymer used according to the present disclosure is hydroxypropyl guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride sold under the trade name  C 162 SGI by the company SOLVAY.

[0122] Table 1

[0123] Inventive Examples 1-2 and Comparative Examples 1-5

[0124] Compositions of Inventive Examples (Ex. ) 1-2 and Comparative Examples (CE. ) 1-5 were prepared according to the amounts of ingredients given in Table 2. The amount of each ingredient was given in %by weight with regard to the total weight of the composition unless otherwise indicated–AM: active material.

[0125] Preparation Procedure:

[0131] Table 2

[0132] Evaluation

[0133] 1. Foam volume test

[0134] 1) . adding 3 g of each composition of Inventive Examples 1-2 and Comparative Examples 1-5 and 50 g deionized water and placing the mixture into a kitchen blender (PHILIPS HR2056) ;

[0135] 2) . turning on the kitchen blender and stirring the mixture for 1 minute;

[0136] 3) . quickly transferring the produced foam and liquid into a 500 ml graduate cylinder;

[0137] 4) . reading the foam volume.

[0138] 2. Dry smoothness

[0139] The dry smoothness of each composition of Inventive Examples 1-2 and Comparative Examples 1-5 was evaluated as follows:

[0140] I) Treating the hair with the composition:

[0141] A bundle of moderate damaged hair swatch was selected. The hair was combed and wet under running water, 12 g of each composition was applied uniformly on the moderate damaged hair swatch from root to tail, and the composition was gently massaged into the hair with two fingers from root to tail (without knotting) to foam the composition. The composition was rinsed off under a tap water until all foams were washed off. Then the hair was blown to  complete dry.

[0142] II) Evaluating smoothness in the dry state:

[0143] The hair swatch was stroked by two fingers from the root, and the smoothness of the surface of the hair swatch was evaluated by 6 trained volunteers aged between 25 and 45. They gave scores as presented below and the scores were averaged.

[0144] The scoring standard for smoothness sensation of dry hair of each composition was as follows.

[0145] Score 1: the hair swatch was very difficult to comb, 9-10 times stuck by hair tangle;

[0146] Score 2: the hair swatch was medium difficult to comb, 7-8 times stuck by hair tangle;

[0147] Score 3: the hair swatch was slightly difficult to comb, 5-6 times stuck by hair tangle;

[0148] Score 4: the hair swatch was easy to comb, 3-4 times stuck by hair tangle; and

[0149] Score 5: the hair swatch was very easy to comb, equal or less than 2 times stuck by hair tangle.

[0150] The results of foam volume test and dry smoothness evaluation of each composition of Inventive Examples 1-2 and Comparative Examples 1-5 were summarized in Table 3.

[0151] Table 3

[0152] These results demonstrated that the compositions of Inventive Examples exhibited enhanced efficacy in both the foam properties and the dry conditioning properties.
