WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:

1. A device for mounting a bag to a bicycle, the device comprising: a side panel; and a mounting panel rotatably coupled to the side panel, wherein the mounting panel is rotatable relative to the side panel from an open position to a closed position, wherein the mounting panel extends from the side panel at an angle when the mounting panel is in the open position, and wherein the mounting panel is configured to be inserted into a receiving portion of the bag when the mounting panel is in the open position.

2. The device according to claim 1, wherein the receiving portion of the bag is a sleeve.

3. The device according to one of claims 1-2, wherein the mounting panel extends out from the side panel at an angle of between 0 degrees and 10 degrees when the mounting panel is in the closed position.

4. The device according to one of claims 1-3, wherein the mounting panel extends out from the side panel at an angle of between 5 degrees and 30 degrees when the mounting panel is in the open position.

5. The device according to one of claims 1—4, wherein the mounting panel comprises a lower portion rotatably coupled to the side panel and a free upper portion.

6. The device according to one of claims 1-5, wherein the mounting panel is rotatable from the open position to the closed position about an axis parallel to a travel direction of the bicycle.

7. The device according to one of claims 1-6, further comprising a stop that inhibits the mounting panel from rotating beyond the open position.

8. The device according to one of claims 1-7, further comprising a lock configured to hold the mounting panel in the closed position.

9. The device according to claim 8, wherein a portion of the lock is configured to extend around a portion of the mounting panel to hold it in the closed position.

10. The device according to one of claims 8-9, wherein a portion of the lock is rotatable to move the lock from a locked position to an unlocked position.

11. The device according to one of claims 8-10, wherein the lock is biased to a locked position.

The device according to one of claims 8-11, wherein the mounting panel comprises a lower portion rotatably coupled to the side panel and a free upper portion, and wherein the lock is configured to engage the free upper portion of the mounting panel when the mounting panel is inserted into the receiving portion of the bag.

13. The device according to one of claims 1-12, wherein the mounting panel is configured to be inserted into the receiving portion of the bag by lowering the bag relative to the mounting panel when the mounting panel is in the open position.

14. The device according to one of claims 1-13, further comprising a base configured to be mounted to a bicycle, wherein the side panel is coupled to the base.

15. A device for mounting a bag to a bicycle in an upright orientation, the device comprising: a side panel; and a mounting panel coupled to the side panel, wherein the mounting panel is configured to be inserted into a receiving portion of a bag by lowering the bag relative to the mounting panel.

16. The device according to claim 15, wherein the mounting panel comprises a lower portion coupled to the side panel and a free upper portion.

17. The device according to one of claims 15-16, wherein a width of the mounting panel decreases from an upper portion of the mounting panel toward a lower portion of the mounting panel.

18. The device according to one of claims 15-17, wherein a width of the mounting panel first increases from an upper portion of the mounting panel toward a lower portion of the mounting panel and then decreases toward the lower portion of the mounting panel.

19. The device according to one of claims 15-18, wherein the mounting panel has a trapezoidal shape.

20. The device according to one of claims 15-19, wherein the mounting panel comprises a frame with a hollow center area.

21. The device according to one of claims 15-20, wherein the side panel comprises a connector configured to connect the side panel to a base of a bicycle rack.

22. The device according to claim 21, wherein the connector comprises an opening configured to connect to studs of the base of the bicycle rack.

23. The device according to one of claims 21-22, wherein the connector comprises a clamp configured to clamp around a frame of the base of the bicycle rack.

24. The device according to one of claims 21-23, wherein the connector comprises a rod configured to be inserted into an opening of the base of the bicycle rack.

A device for mounting a bag to a side panel of a bicycle rack in an upright orientation, the device comprising:a mounting panel having an upper portion and a lower portion, the lower portion configured to be rotatably coupled to the side panel of the bicycle rack about an axis parallel to a travel direction of the bicycle; and a lock configured to be coupled to the side panel of the bicycle rack and to hold the mounting panel in a locked position relative to the side panel of the bicycle rack, wherein the upper portion of the mounting panel is configured to be inserted into a receiving portion of the bag.

26. The device according to claim 25, wherein the mounting panel comprises a frame with a hollow center area, and wherein the lock extends around a portion of the frame to hold the mounting panel in the locked position.

27. The device according to one of claims 25-26, wherein a width of the mounting panel increases from the upper portion of the mounting panel toward the lower portion of the mounting panel.

28. The device according to one of claims 25-27, wherein a width of the mounting panel first increases from the upper portion of the mounting panel toward the lower portion of the mounting panel and then decreases toward the lower portion of the mounting panel.

29. A bag configured to be carried in an upright orientation on a mounting device, the bag comprising: a receiving portion configured to receive a mounting panel of the mounting device, wherein a bottom of the receiving portion is open such that the mounting panel can be inserted into the receiving portion by lowering the bag relative to the mounting panel, and wherein a top of the receiving portion is partially closed such that the top of the receiving portion bears a weight of the bag when the bag is mounted to the mounting device.

30. The bag according to claim 29, wherein the receiving portion is a sleeve.

31. The bag according to one of claims 29-30, wherein a top of the receiving portion is partially open such that a portion of the mounting panel is accessible at the top of the receiving portion when the bag is mounted to the mounting device.

32. The bag according to one of claims 29-31 , wherein the bag is free from rigid mounting hardware.
