Bioactive glasses (BAG) are of interest for cell proliferation abilities in wound healing applications. The regenerative potential of use of BAGs in cosmetic materials is of great interest due at least in part to the biologically-relevant ions that can be designed into BAGs and subsequently released over time once present on skin and / or hair. Such ions include, for example, silicon, silicate, phosphate, calcium, magnesium, or any combination thereof. Recent advances made in the understanding of the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of essential ions, i. e. calcium, magnesium, phosphate and silicon / silicate ions, with regard to dermal aging has given rise to new opportunities to exert these bioactive factors as promising cosmeceutical ingredients for the reparative, regenerative, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and / or antioxidant properties. Disclosed herein is a variety of cosmetic formulations utilizing water durable bioactive glass which manipulates the release rates of desired ions from silicate-based glass compositions that have demonstrated excellent biocompatibility. The disclosed bioactive glasses can serve as a desired regenerative agent, which extends the stability and efficacy in the exemplified cosmetic compositions. Such cosmetic compositions are of interest to applications in various topical cosmetics and cosmeceuticals.
[0017] Disclosed herein are cosmetic products containing cosmetic compositions, in which the cosmetic compositions comprise a bioactive glass. In some aspects, the bioactive glasses are compositions in silicate families that can release desired ions, in particular, calcium ions, that can benefit their application as a keystone component in cosmetic products. In some aspects, the release of calcium ions over a period of 24 hours suggests the capability of cell proliferation and regeneration in the exemplified cosmetic compositions. The bioactive glasses are environmentally friendly without any toxic heavy metal or bio-incompatible ingredients for cosmetic industry. In some aspects, the bioactive glasses in cosmetic compositions soothe and maintain healthy skin. In some aspects, bioactive glass are processed to a desired average particle size for intended cosmetic applications.

Thus, the cosmetic compositions herein can comprise one or more of these ingredients. These ingredients typically are referred to herein either as a carrier component, or simply as part of the cosmetic composition, but both descriptions are accurate and are intended to cover the same concept. However, amounts of a given ingredient are typically disclosed with respect to the total weight of the cosmetic composition, rather than total weight of the carrier. All other possible combinations of the disclosed carrier components are contemplated. It is important tonote that there can be overlap among these categories of carrier components in cosmetic compositions. A carrier component may serve multiple functions and thus fall into more than one category. For example, a certain carrier component may act as both an emollient and a humectant, contributing to skin hydration by both sealing in moisture and attracting additional moisture to the skin. Similarly, some minerals can also act as sun filters. Therefore, while these categories provide a useful framework for understanding the different roles of carrier components, they are not mutually exclusive and many components may straddle multiple categories. In this regard, if a given composition is disclosed to have both a humectant and an emollient, or both a mineral and a sun filter, then two different such components must be present. In other words, one component (e.g., an emollient) cannot be deemed to satisfy both the requirement for an emollient and the requirement for a humectant in the same composition.

The comparative composition was prepared to target the 45 S5 Bioglass® sold by Haleon under the Sensodyne® brand featuring NovaMin® technology.Table 2

It is believed that the bioactive glasses herein, when blended in the cosmetic compositions of the cosmetic products, can achieve various beneficial properties, such as anti-aging, through release of calcium, magnesium, phosphate, and / or silicon / silicate ions.

2. The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein the carrier comprises one or more of a skin soothing agent, an emollient, a humectant, a mineral, an antioxidant, a sun filter, or any combination thereof.

The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein the closing component comprises a cap, a lid, a stopper, a cork, a seal, a plug, a cover, a clamp, a zipper, a snap, a lock, a slider, a drawstring, a screw, a buckle, a button, a hook, a clasp, a bung, a spigot, a valve, a lid with a gasket, a flip-top, a twist-off cap, a press-on lid, a roll-on applicator, a pump, a dropper, a sprayer, a dispenser, a heat seal, a pressure seal, a tie, a twist tie, a clip, a band, a cinch, a knot, a self-sealing mechanism, an adhesive strip, a zip lock, a staple, a fold and tuck closure, or any combination thereof.
8. The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein the cosmetic composition does not contain a detectable amount of an amino acid, as measured by high performance liquid chromatography .

The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein, when the bioactive glass is subjected to a composition at 37 °C and a pH of 6.5 to form a mixture, a total amount of calcium ions in the mixture increases every 2 hours over a 12 hour period, wherein the composition comprises 0.05 wt.% sodium chloride, 0.1 wt.% urea, 0.1 wt.% lactic acid, and a balance of water.
10. The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein the bioactive glass comprises:25-35 wt.% SiO2;35-50 wt.% CaO; and15-25 wt.% P2O5; based on total weight of the bioactive glass.

The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein the bioactive glass comprises:3-12 wt.% ZrO2;0-25 wt.% MgO;0-5 wt.% F";0-5 wt.% Na2O+K2O+Li2O;0-5 wt.% A12O3;0-5 wt.% B2O3;0-5 wt.% Na2O;0-5 wt.% K2O;CaO+P2O5 in an amount of 40-70 wt.%; or any combination thereof; based on total weight of the bioactive glass12. The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein the cosmetic composition is a sensitive skin care formulation, and the carrier comprises: the humectant, optionally comprising sorbitol; the emollient, optionally comprising botanic extract oils, caprylic / capric triglycerides, cetyl alcohol, ceramide, or any combination thereof; the rheology modifier, optionally comprising botanic extract buffers, cetearyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, xanthan gum, or any combination thereof; the emulsifier, optionally comprising sodium acrylate, isohexadecane, polysorbate 80, cetearyl glucoside, or any combination thereof; the antioxidant, optionally comprising vitamin E; the preservative, optionally comprising benzyl alcohol; and the diluent, optionally comprising water.

The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein the cosmetic composition is a sunscreen, and the carrier comprising: the sun filter, optionally comprising titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or a combination thereof; the rheology modifier, optionally comprising silica, alumina, PEG-30 dipolyhydroxystearate, wax, or any combination thereof; the emollient, optionally comprising caprylic / capric triglyceride, isohexadecane, isononyl isononanoate, ceramide, or any combination thereof; the emulsifier, optionally comprising sodium lauroyl lactylate, glyceryl stearate, cetearyl alcohol, cetearyl glucoside, or any combination thereof; the preservative, optionally comprising behentrimonium methosulfate; and the diluent, optionally comprising water.

The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein the cosmetic composition is a lotion primer, and the carrier comprises: the texturizer, optionally comprising silica;the rheology modifier, optionally comprising xanthan gum, caprate, triheptanoin, dilinoleic acid, or any combination thereof; the emollient, optionally comprising caprylic / capric triglyceride, stearalkonium hectorite, galactoarabinan, or any combination thereof; the emulsifier, optionally comprising lecithin, polyglyceryl-4 oleate, olive sedate, or any combination thereof; the antioxidant, optionally comprising vitamin E; the pigment, optionally comprising iron oxide, mica, or a combination thereof; the preservative, optionally comprising benzylalcohol, dehydroacetic acid, or a combination thereof; and the diluent, optionally comprising water.

The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein the cosmetic composition is a gel foundation, and the carrier comprises: the texturizer, optionally comprising silica; the emollient, optionally comprising caprylic / capric triglyceride, isoeicosane, or any combination thereof; the emulsifier, optionally comprising PEG-7 glyceryl monococoate, isohexadecane, polysorbate 80, or any combination thereof; the humectant, optionally comprising glycerin; the antioxidant, optionally comprising vitamin E; the pigment, optionally comprising iron oxide, titanium dioxide, mica, or any combination thereof; the preservative, optionally comprising benzylalcohol, dehydroacetic acid, or a combination thereof; and the diluent, optionally comprising water.

The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein the cosmetic composition is a powder foundation, and the carrier comprises: the texturizer, optionally comprising silica, boron nitride, kaolin, talc, or any combination thereof; the emollient, optionally comprising caprylic / capric triglyceride, hydrogenated polyisobutene, or a combination thereof; the antioxidant, optionally comprising vitamin E; the pigment, optionally comprising iron oxide, titanium dioxide, mica, or any combination thereof; andthe diluent, optionally comprising seed oil, wax, starch, magnesium stearate, or any combination thereof.

The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein the cosmetic composition is a concealer, and the carrier comprises: the texturizer, optionally comprising silica, talc, polymethylsilsesquioxane, dimethicone, or any combination thereof; the emollient, optionally comprising caprylic / capric triglyceride, polyhydroxystearic acid, isododecane, or any combination thereof; the antioxidant, optionally comprising vitamin E; the pigment, optionally comprising iron oxide, titanium dioxide, mica, or any combination thereof; and the diluent, optionally comprising seed oil, octyldodecanol, wax.

The cosmetic product of any preceding claim, wherein the cosmetic composition is a face powder, and the carrier comprises: the texturizer, optionally comprising silica, kaolin, magnesium hydroxide, polymethylsilsesquioxane, or any combination thereof; the emollient, optionally comprising dimethicone, allantoin, niacinamide, or any combination thereof; the pigment, optionally comprising iron oxide, titanium dioxide, mica, or any combination thereof; and the diluent, optionally comprising starch, pearl powder, or a combination thereof.
23. A method for preparing the cosmetic product of any preceding claim, the method comprising disposing the cosmetic composition into the vessel and at least partially closing the vessel with the closing component.
