Abstract

A user equipment (UE), baseband processor, and network device are described. The UE or baseband processor can receive a first control message identifying a collision handling rule for a first set of measurement occasions of a first measurement configuration for a first radio frequency (RF) spectrum band and a second set of measurement occasions of a second measurement configuration of a second RF spectrum band. The UE or baseband processor may then receive a second control message deactivating a first measurement occasion of the first set of measurement occasions. Based on the collision handling rule and the first measurement occasion being deactivated, the UE or baseband processor may then determine whether to measure a synchronization signal block (SSB) during a measurement occasion of the second set of measurement occasions corresponding to the deactivated measurement occasion.

Description

COLLISION HANDLING BETWEEN DEACTIVATED MEASUREMENT GAPS AND CONCURRENT MEASUREMENT GAPSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] This application relates generally to wireless communication systems, including systems, apparatuses, and methods for collision handling between deactivated measurement gaps and concurrent measurement gaps.BACKGROUND

[0002] Wireless mobile communication technology uses various standards and protocols to transmit data between a network device (e.g., a base station, a radio head, etc. ) and a wireless communication device. Wireless communication system standards and protocols can include, for example, 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) long term evolution (LTE) (e.g., 4G) , 3GPP new radio (NR) (e.g., 5G) , and IEEE 802.11 standard for wireless local area networks (WLAN) (commonly known to industry groups as  ) .

[0003] As contemplated by the 3GPP, different wireless communication systems standards and protocols can use various radio access networks (RANs) for communicating between a network device of the RAN (which may also sometimes be referred to generally as a RAN node, a network node, or simply a node) and a wireless communication device known as a user equipment (UE) . 3GPP RANs can include, for example, global system for mobile communications (GSM) , enhanced data rates for GSM evolution (EDGE) RAN (GERAN) , Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN) , Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) , and / or Next-Generation Radio Access Network (NG-RAN) .

[0004] Each RAN may use one or more radio access technologies (RATs) to perform communication between the network device and the UE. For example, the GERAN implements GSM and / or EDGE RAT, the UTRAN implements universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS) RAT or other 3GPP RAT, the E-UTRAN implements LTE RAT (sometimes simply referred to as LTE) , and NG-RAN implements NR RAT (sometimes referred to herein as 5G RAT, 5G NR RAT, or simply NR) . In certain deployments, the E-UTRAN may also implement NR RAT. In certain deployments, NG-RAN may also implement LTE RAT.

[0005] A network device used by a RAN may correspond to that RAN. One example of an E-UTRAN network device is an E-UTRAN Node B (also commonly denoted as evolved Node B, enhanced Node B, eNodeB, or eNB) . One example of an NG-RAN network device is a next generation Node B (also sometimes referred to as a g Node B or gNB) .

[0006] A RAN provides its communication services with external entities through its connection to a core network (CN) . For example, E-UTRAN may utilize an Evolved Packet Core (EPC) , while NG-RAN may utilize a 5G Core Network (5GC) .BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0015] Various embodiments are described with regard to a processor (e.g., baseband processor) , wireless device (e.g., a user equipment (UE) ) , or a network device. However, reference to a processor, wireless device, or network device is merely provided for illustrative purposes. The example embodiments may be utilized with any electronic component or device that may establish a wireless connection and is configured with the hardware, software, and / or firmware to exchange information and data over the wireless connection. Therefore, the processors, wireless devices, and network devices described herein are used to represent any appropriate electronic components or devices.

[0016] UEs communicating with a network and being served by a serving cell of a network device need to perform various management-related tasks, including performing various measurements, to ensure continuous connectivity as the UE moves relative to the cellular network. For example, UEs communicating with a network may enter into or leave the coverage area of network devices. The various tasks may include operations performed in connection with radio resource management (RRM) , radio link monitoring (RLM) , beam failure detection (BFD) , candidate new beam detection measurement (CBD) , and the like.

[0017] RRM-related tasks include measuring neighboring cells (e.g., cells served by neighboring network devices) as potential target serving cells for handover from a current serving cell (e.g., the serving cell of a current network device) . RLM-related tasks include measuring reference signals transmitted by a serving cell. The measurement results can be used to determine information regarding the quality and reliability of radio links between a UE and a network device. The measurements can be inputs to modify or otherwise adjust a modulation and coding scheme or data rate, and aid in handover. The measurements can also be used in connection with BFD or CBD processes. The measurement may be layer three (L3) measurements and reporting, layer one (L1) measurements and reporting, or a combination of these.

[0018] To make measurements (e.g., for RRM, RLM, BFD, or CBD) , a UE tunes various electrical components of the UE away from the bandwidth that the UE is using to communicate with the current serving cell to the bandwidth (s) used by neighboring cells in order to measure reference signal (e.g., synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) , channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS) , or the like) transmitted by neighboring cells. During such time, the UE is typically unable to receive any channel or signal from the current serving cell. Upon completion  of the measurements, the UE retunes to the bandwidth of the current serving cell. In order to provide the UE time to tune, measure, then retune, the UE is configured by the network with measurement gaps (which may also be referred to as measurement occasions) where the UE does not expect or perform communications with the current serving cell.

[0019] The configured resources for a measurement gap (measurement occasion) depend on, among other things, the capabilities of the UE, including a radio frequency (RF) spectrum band on which the measurements are being performed (e.g., a frequency resource (FR) , a bandwidth part (BWP) , a band, a band combination) used for communication, and may be periodic. Multiple sets of measurement occasions may be configured for a UE. For example, a first RF spectrum band may have a first set of measurement occasions configured for the UE, while a second RF spectrum band may have a second set of measurement occasions. In some examples, the different RF spectrum bands may have different measurement occasion (measurement gap) types configured. In another example, a single frequency range (FR) may have multiple (e.g., two, or more than two) sets of measurement occasions configured for a UE. In some embodiments, a first FR may have two or more sets of configured measurement occasions, while a second FR may have another two or more sets of configured measurement occasions. Each set of measurement occasions may be defined by 3 parameters, including an offset, periodicity, and length.

[0020] Examples of measurement gap configurations include a periodic measurement gap that is configured via radio resource control (RRC) signaling, which may also be referred to as a “legacy gap. ”

[0021] Another example of a measurement gap configuration includes measurement occasions activatable via control signaling from the network device, which may also be referred to a “pre-configured measurement gap. ” The set of measurement occasions of the measurement gap configuration may be configured using configuration signaling (e.g., RRC signaling) , and measurement occasions of the set of measurement occasions activated or deactivated using control messages (e.g., a media access control (MAC) control element (CE) , a downlink control information (DCI) message, or the like) . In other examples, the measurement gap configured (the “pre-configured measurement gap” configuration) may be activated or deactivated according to other triggering or signals, for example a timer; a DCI message, timer, or RRC-based active BWP  switching; activation or deactivation of a secondary cell (SCell) ; addition or removal of a measurement object; and / or addition, release, or change of a secondary cell in carrier aggregation.

[0022] When a UE is configured according to multiple measurement configurations, collisions may occur between measurement occasions of different measurement configurations. As such, mechanisms are needed to determine which measurement occasion should be measured, if at all. One approach is to assign a priority to each measurement configuration, so that measurement occasions of higher priority configurations will take precedence over measurement occasions of lower priority configurations (e.g., relatively lower priority than the higher priority configuration) when collisions occur.

[0023] Additionally, collisions may be determined to occur only when the measurement occasion is activated for the measurement configuration with activatable measurement occasions (the “pre-configured measurement gap” configuration) . In some cases, such feature may be referred to as “dynamic collisions. ” However, it may be unclear how the UE (and network device) should treat collisions (conflicts) with measurement occasions that are deactivated (e.g., deactivated measurement occasions of a “pre-configured measurement gap” configuration) . Such measurement occasions may have a higher priority than other measurement occasions, but be deactivated. A UE may not have a defined behavior with reference to these deactivated measurement occasions, leading to uncertainty and differing behavior at the UE. Additionally, a network device may not know how a UE will respond to this scenario. The network device may receive a measurement report and not know what the measurement occasions were, and corresponding measurements, on which the measurement report is based. In light of the above, improved techniques for collision handing between deactivated measurement occasions (e.g., gaps of a pre-configured measurement gaps) and other measurement occasions (e.g., concurrent measurement gaps, or other pre-configured measurement gaps) are desired.

[0024] Systems, apparatuses, and methods for collision handling between deactivated measurement gaps and concurrent measurement gaps are further described herein. A UE (or a baseband processor of the UE) can receive a control message identifying a collision handling rule between measurement occasions of different measurement configurations. For example, a first measurement configuration may be a pre-configured measurement gap configuration (e.g., with activatable measurement occasions) , and a second, concurrent measurement configuration may be  a periodic, RRC configured measurement gap configuration (e.g., a legacy measurement gap configuration) or a different pre-configured measurement gap configuration. As such, a first set of measurement occasions for a first configuration in a first RF spectrum band may be measurement occasions activatable via control signaling from the network device. A UE may be capable of supporting a plurality of collision handling rules between the first set of measurement occasions of the first measurement configuration and a second set of measurement occasions of the second measurement configuration. The UE may provide such capability signaling to indicate support of different collision handling between high priority deactivated measurement occasions of the first measurement configuration (e.g., a preconfigured measurement gap) and another measurement configuration (e.g., measurement gap configuration) . The network device may transmit to the UE signaling that indicates whether a deactivated measurement occasion of the first measurement configuration would cause a collision to a relatively lower priority measurement occasion (e.g., a lower priority measurement gap) .

[0025] FIG. 1 shows an example wireless communications system 100, according to one or more aspects described herein. In one or more embodiments, wireless communications system 100 supports one or more aspects of collision handling between deactivated measurement gaps and concurrent measurement gaps, as further described herein.

[0026] Wireless communications system 100 includes one or more UE 102 that may be served by (e.g., have an established RRC connection with) a network device 104 via communication link 134. Coverage area 110 is the service area for the radio frequency (RF) spectrum band utilized by network device 104 serving the UE 102 (e.g., a cell or serving cell, which may include multiple cells) . Although shown as a mobile device or smartphone, UE 102 can comprise any mobile or non-mobile computing device configured for wireless communication in a wireless communications system, such as a tablet, laptop, wearable (e.g., smartwatch) , or an extended reality (XR) device (e.g., virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) device) . In some cases, UE 102 may be a system of components operating together as a UE 102.

[0027] Wireless communications system 100 may also include a network device 106 that is a neighboring network device.

[0028] As the UE 102 moves relative to coverage area 110 of the network device 104, the UE 102 may measure the reference signals 128 transmitted by network devices. In some examples,  and as further described herein, network devices including network device 104 may transmit reference signals 128 and / or reference signals 136 that can be monitored for (e.g., listened for) , received by, and measured by UE 102 for various purposes, for example RRM, RLM, CBD, and / or BLM purposes, as further described herein. In some examples, the network device 104 may transmit reference signals 128 (e.g., SSB and / or CSI-RS) , which the UE 102 may measure. In some examples, the network device 106 may transmit reference signals 136 (e.g., SSB and / or CSI-RS) , which the UE 102 may measure.

[0029] In some examples a UE may be configured to communicate on a serving cell of the network device 104. The serving cell may be in a band 116, which may also be referred to as a third RF spectrum band herein. The band 116 may be a set of frequency resources for RF wireless communications, such as a band, carrier (e.g. component carrier) , channel, or BWP. The UE 102 may be configured with multiple sets of measurement occasions 124 (which may also be referred to as measurement gaps) . For example measurement occasions 124 may include a first set of measurement occasions (MG1) and a second set of measurement occasions (MG2) . In some examples, a first set of measurement occasions is of a first measurement configuration for a first RF spectrum band, the band 112, and a second set of measurement occasions is of a second measurement configuration for a second RF spectrum band, the band 114. As depicted, the first set of measurement occasions of the first measurement configuration may be periodic with a different periodicity than the second set of measurement occasions of the second measurement configuration. As further described herein, the UE 102 may use a collision handling rule to determine whether to measure a reference signal (e.g., an SSB) of band 114 during a second measurement occasion 142 of the second set of measurement occasions that at least partially overlaps in time with a first measurement occasion 140 of the first set of measurement occasions.

[0030] The UE 102 may transmit UE capability signaling 120 to the network device 104. In some examples, the UE capability signaling 120 indicates a capability of the UE 102 to support the plurality of collision handling rules between the first set of measurement occasions (e.g., for band 112) and the second set of measurement occasions (e.g., for band 114) . In some examples, the UE capability signaling 120 may be associated with a feature group for collision handling between a preconfigured measurement gap configuration and another measurement gap configuration. In some examples, another measurement gap configuration may be referred to as a measurement configuration and be a measurement configuration that has measurement occasions  that are activatable (e.g., be a different preconfigured measurement gap configuration) , or be a different measurement configuration (e.g., a legacy measurement gap configuration) .

[0031] In some examples, the UE capability signaling 120 may indicate one of a set of possible UE capability values related to the collision handling rule. A first value for an indicator of the UE capability signaling 120 may indicate that a measurement occasion (e.g., of a preconfigured measurement gap configuration) that is deactivated does not cause a collision, regardless of the priority (e.g., regardless of which measurement occasion is a relatively higher or lower priority) . A second value for an indicator of the UE capability signaling 120 may indicate that a measurement occasion that is a relatively higher priority and deactivated nonetheless will cause a collision with a relatively lower priority measurement occasion. A third value for an indicator of the UE capability signaling 120 may indicate that whether a measurement occasion that is a relatively higher priority and deactivated nonetheless will cause a collision with a relatively lower priority measurement occasion is subject to network configuration (e.g., via a control messages 122) received from the network device. In some examples, the first value, the second value, and the third value may correspond to different bit values in the UE capability signaling 120.

[0032] A network device 104 may transmit one or more control messages 122 in response to the UE capability signaling 120, the control messages 122 identifying a collision handling rule for the UE 102 and deactivating at least a first measurement occasion of the first set of measurement occasions. The control messages 122 may include a first control message that indicates one of a plurality of collision handling rules (e.g., indicate for the UE 102 to operate according to one of a first collision handling rule or a second collision handling rule) . The collision handling rule may be between the first set of measurement occasions of a first measurement configuration and the second set of measurement occasions of a second measurement configuration. The control messages 122 may also include a second control message that indicates for the UE 102 to deactivate at least a first measurement occasion of the first set of measurement occasions. In some examples, the first control message and the second control message may each be a portion of the same control message.

[0033] In some examples, the UE 102 may prepare a measurement report 126 (e.g., a level three measurement report via RRC signaling) . In some examples, the measurement report 126 may be based on the application of the collision handling rule to the second measurement occasion. The  network device 104 may receive a measurement report 126 from the UE 102 and determine what measurement occasions the UE 102 has used to prepare the measurement report 126. In some examples, the network device 106 may determine, based at least in part on the collision handling rule identified by the control messages 122 and the first measurement occasion being deactivated, whether the UE 102 is to measure a SSB of the second RF spectrum band (e.g., band 114) ) during a second measurement occasion of the second set of measurement occasions according to the second measurement configuration when the first measurement occasion at least partially overlapping in time with the second measurement occasion.

[0034] In some examples, reference signals 128 and / or reference signals 136 are SSBs, which may be transmitted in groups or sets, which may be referred to as SSB bursts. In other examples, other reference signal types may be transmitted by network device 104 and measured by UE 102 for purposes of acquiring time and frequency tracking information, such as channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS) , tracking reference signals (TRS) , or demodulation reference signals (DMRS) , or a combination of reference signal types.

[0035] FIGs. 2A and 2B show example signaling diagram 201 and signaling diagram 202, according to one or more aspects described herein. In one or more embodiments, signaling diagram 201 and signaling diagram 202 support one or more aspects of collision handling between deactivated measurement gaps and concurrent measurement gaps, as further described herein. The signaling diagram 201 generally illustrates an example of the operation of a first collision handling rule, where a measurement occasion (e.g., MG2) is considered to collide with a deactivated measurement occasion (e.g., MG1) , and the measurement occasion (e.g., MG2) is therefore not measured.

[0036] As depicted in the signaling diagram 201, a UE 102 may be configured to communicate in a third band 208 (athird RF spectrum band) . The UE 102 may transmit to or receive from a network device 104 in the third band 208. The UE 102 may be configured to measure reference signals (e.g., SSBs) on at least the first band 204 (afirst RF spectrum band) and the second band 206 (a second RF spectrum band) . In some examples, the UE 102 does not expect to be scheduled by the network device 104 to communicate during those portions of time when the UE 102 is configured with an active measurement occasion for measuring reference signals (e.g., SSBs) on the first band 204 or the second band 206.

[0037] In one or more examples, the network device 104 configures the UE 102 with a first set of measurement occasions that are used by the UE 102 to measure SSBs in the first band 204. These SSBs may have a periodicity 226, including at least an SSB 210, SSB 212, SSB 214, SSB 216, SSB 218, SSB 220, SSB 222, and SSB 224. The first set of measurement occasions may include measurement occasions (e.g., measurement gaps) that correspond to SSB 210 and SSB 218. The first set of measurement occasions are according to a first measurement configuration. According to one or more examples, the first measurement configuration identifies measurement occasions that are activatable (or deactivatable) via control signaling 250 from the network device 104. For example, the first set of measurement occasions may be identified to the UE 102 via RRC signaling, and measurement occasions activated or deactivated using control signaling 250 that is more dynamic than the RRC signaling (e.g., a DCI message or a MAC CE) . In some examples, the first measurement configuration is a pre-configured measurement gap configuration. In some examples, the first set of measurement occasions according to the first configuration may have a relatively higher priority than the second set of measurement occasions according to the second configuration.

[0038] The network device 104 also configures the UE 102 with a second set of measurement occasions that are used by the UE 102 to measure SSBs in the second band 206. These SSBs may have a periodicity 238, including at least an SSB 230, SSB 232, SSB 234, and SSB 236. The second set of measurement occasions may include measurement occasions (e.g., measurement gaps) that correspond to the SSB 230, SSB 232, SSB 234, and SSB 236. The second set of measurement occasions are according to a second measurement configuration. According to one or more examples, the second measurement configuration identifies measurement occasions that are configured by the network device 104, but not subject to activation and deactivation similar to the first measurement configuration. For example, the second measurement configuration may be a legacy measurement gap configuration. In other examples, the second measurement configuration may be, similar to the first measurement configuration, activatable via control signaling from the network device 104. For example, the second set of measurement occasions configured via RRC signaling and active in the signaling diagram 301. In some examples, the second set of measurement occasions according to the second configuration may have a relatively lower priority than the first set of measurement occasions according to the first configuration.

[0039] According to a first collision handling rule for the UE 102, the measurement occasion 240 corresponding to SSB 210 and configured for the first band 204 according to the first configuration will take precedence over the measurement occasion corresponding to SSB 230 and configured for the second band 206 according to the first configuration, such that UE 102 will proceed to measure the SSB 210 in the first band 204 according to the first configuration (and cancel the measurement of SSB 230 according to the second configuration) . Because there is no first collision with a measurement occasion of the first configuration for the SSB 232 or the SSB 236, the UE 102, the measurement occasion 242 and the measurement occasion 244 will be used by the UE 102 to measure the SSB 232 and the SSB 236, respectively, in the second band 206.

[0040] The control signaling 250 may be received deactivating measurement occasions according to the first measurement configuration on the first band 204. As such, according to the first collision handling rule for the UE 102, while the measurement occasion 246 corresponding to SSB 210 and configured for the first band 204 according to the first configuration are canceled, the measurement occasion 246 nonetheless results in the cancellation of the measurement occasion 248. As such, neither the SSB 218 is measured according to the first measurement configuration nor the SSB 234 is measured according to the second measurement configuration during the time duration 260.

[0041] In some examples, according to the first collision handling rule, a network device 104 may schedule communications (e.g., data transmission or reception) with the UE 102 on the third band 208 during the time duration 260 because both measurement occasions are unused (deactivated for the first band 204 or canceled for the second band 206) .

[0042] Referring to the signaling diagram 202, the signaling diagram 202 generally illustrates an example of the operation of a second collision handling rule, where the measurement occasion (e.g., MG2) is considered to not collide with a deactivated measurement occasion (e.g., MG1) , and the measurement occasion (e.g., MG2) may therefore be measured. The description of aspects of signaling diagram 202 that are duplicative of signaling diagram 201 are omitted for clarity.

[0043] The control signaling 250 may be received deactivating measurement occasions according to the first measurement configuration on the first band 204 as discussed with reference to signaling diagram 201. However, according to the second collision handling rule for the UE 102, the measurement occasion 246 corresponding to SSB 210 and configured for the first band  204 according to the first configuration is canceled, but the measurement occasion 246 does not result in the cancellation of the measurement occasion 252. Even though the measurement occasion 252 is lower priority, because the higher priority measurement occasion is cancelled according to the control signaling 250, the measurement of SSB 234 by the UE 102 may proceed during the otherwise-colliding measurement occasion 252.

[0044] FIG. 3A shows an example signaling diagram 301, according to one or more aspects described herein. In one or more embodiments, the signaling diagram 301 supports one or more aspects of collision handling between deactivated measurement gaps and concurrent measurement gaps, as further described herein. The signaling diagram 301 generally depicts partial gap cancellation, where only a portion of a measurement occasion (measurement gap) is canceled.

[0045] The signaling diagram 301 includes a first measurement occasion 310 in a first band 204. The SSB 312 to be measured is an SSB 312 (the measurement object) . The first measurement occasion 310 has a first duration 320 and the SSB 312 has a duration 322. In some examples the first measurement occasion 310 and the SSB 312 may be examples of measurement occasion 246 and SSB 218, respectively. A second measurement occasion 330, having a second duration 340, may at least partially overlap with the first duration 320 of the first measurement occasion 310.

[0046] According to one or more examples, a portion 332 of the second measurement occasion 330 may be a cancelled. In some examples, the portion of the second measurement occasion 330 that overlaps with the SSB 312 may be canceled, as well as a margin duration 324. In some examples, the margin duration 324 includes a RF tuning and / or RF retuning time (e.g., 0.50 s in a first FR (FR1) and / or 0.25 s in a second FR (FR2) ) . In some examples, the margin duration 324 may also include a time and cell phase synchronization error (e.g., up to 3 microseconds) .

[0047] In some examples, the UE does not perform data transmission or reception during the duration 322 associated with the SSB 312. In some examples, the UE is allowed not to respond to scheduling from the network device 104 during the margin duration 324. In some examples, the UE 102 may perform measurements of other SSBs in the second band 206 during the second measurement occasion 330 (e.g., the colliding measurement occasion) .

[0048] FIG. 3B shows an example signaling diagram 302, according to one or more aspects described herein. In one or more embodiments, the signaling diagram 302 supports one or more aspects of collision handling between deactivated measurement gaps and concurrent measurement  gaps, as further described herein. The description of aspects of signaling diagram 302 that are duplicative of signaling diagram 301 are omitted for clarity.

[0049] The signaling diagram 302 generally depicts partial gap cancellation, where only a portion of a measurement occasion (measurement gap) is canceled. The starting point of a cancelled measurement occasion (gap) need not start from the beginning of a measurement gap occasion. As shown in signaling diagram 302, in addition to a margin duration 324 to follows the duration 322 for the SSB 312, when the SSB 312 is not at the beginning of the first measurement occasion 310 (e.g., is in the middle or at the end) a margin duration 326 may precede the duration 322 for the SSB 312.

[0050] In some examples, if a UE 102 is in a carrier aggregation (CA) mode and configured with multiple measurement objects (MO) which can be measured without measurement occasions (measurement gaps) , the SSB symbols to measure as described herein may be a union of symbols among all the measurement objects (e.g., of the symbols indicated via SSB-ToMeasure) .

[0051] In some examples, a UE 102 may transmit, to a network device 104, UE capability signaling indicating a capability to support partial cancellation of a measurement gap as part of the collision handling rule, for example as depicted with reference to one or both of the signaling diagram 301 or the signaling diagram 302. In some examples, this capability may be specified for the UE 102. In other examples, the capability may be specific to a FR. For example, the capability may include a first capability to support a plurality of collision handling rules for a first FR and a second capability to support the plurality of collision handling rules for a second FR. In other examples, the capability may be specific to a band combination. For example, the capability may include a first capability to support a plurality of collision handling rules for a first band combination and a second capability to support the plurality of collision handling rules for a second band combination.

[0052] In some examples, network device 104 may transmit, to the UE 102, control signaling that indicates whether the UE 102 should use partial cancellation of a measurement gap as part of the collision handling rule, for example as depicted with reference to one or both of the signaling diagram 301 or the signaling diagram 302. In some examples, this control signaling may be an indication in a measurement gap configuration. The indication may be an RRC information  element for this signaling. In other examples, the control signaling enabling or disabling the partial gap cancelation may be an indication in a MAC CE or DCI message.

[0053] FIG. 4 shows an example method 400 of wireless communication by a UE, according to one or more aspects described herein. In some cases, the UE may be the wireless device 702 or UE 102. In some cases, the method 400 may be performed by a baseband processor of the UE. In some embodiments, the baseband processor may include one or more processor cores, and memory that is coupled to the processor core (s) . The memory may store instructions that, when executed by the processor core (s) , causes the baseband processor to perform the operations of the method 400. As the baseband processor performs the operations of the method 400, the baseband processor may also cause other components of the UE to perform, or discontinue, various operations.

[0054] At 402, the method 400 includes receiving a first control message identifying a first collision handling rule. In some embodiments, the method 400 includes receiving a first control message identifying a first collision handling rule between a first set of measurement occasions of a first measurement configuration and a second set of measurement occasions of a second measurement configuration, the first set of measurement occasions in a first radio frequency (RF) spectrum band, and the second set of measurement occasions in a second RF spectrum band.

[0055] At 404, the method 400 includes receiving a second control message deactivating a first measurement occasion. In some embodiments, the method 400 includes receiving a second control message deactivating at least a first measurement occasion of the first set of measurement occasions.

[0056] At 406, the method 400 includes determining whether to measure an SSB that collides with the deactivated measurement occasion based on the first collision handling rule. In some embodiments, the method 400 includes selecting, based at least in part on the first collision handling rule and the first measurement occasion being deactivated, whether to measure a SSB of the second RF spectrum band during a second measurement occasion of the second set of measurement occasions according to the second measurement configuration, the first measurement occasion at least partially overlapping in time with the second measurement occasion.

[0057] In one or more embodiments, the method further includes transmitting capability signaling indicating a first capability to support a plurality of collision handling rules, including the first collision handling rule, between the first set of measurement occasions and the second set  of measurement occasions, wherein the first control message is received at least in part responsive to the capability. In some embodiments, the capability signaling indicates a second capability to support a collision handling rule allowing partial cancellation of a measurement gap. In some embodiments, the capability signaling indicates a third capability to support the plurality of collision handling rules for a first frequency range or a first band combination, and the capability signaling further indicates a fourth capability to support the plurality of collision handling rules for a second frequency range or a second band combination, respectively.

[0058] In one or more embodiments, the method further includes receiving an indication that the first measurement occasion has a higher priority than the second measurement occasion, wherein the selection is further based at least in part on the indication.

[0059] In some embodiments, the first collision handling rule indicates that a deactivated measurement occasion of the first set of measurement occasions causes a collision with a measurement occasion of the second set of measurement occasions when the first set of measurement occasions are a higher priority than the second set of measurement occasions. A second collision handling rule indicates that the deactivated measurement occasion of the first set of measurement occasions does not cause the collision with the measurement occasion of the second set of measurement occasions when the first set of measurement occasions are the higher priority than the second set of measurement occasions.
