Description

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING USER EQUIPMENT INITIATED CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION REPORT AND NETWORK TRIGGERED CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION REPORT IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEMTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to wireless communication, and more particularly, to performing a user equipment (UE) initiated (UEI) channel state information (CSI) report and a network triggered (NWT) CSI report.BACKGROUND

[0002] The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifies a radio interface referred to as fifth generation (5G) new radio (NR) (5G NR) . An architecture for a 5G NR wireless communication system includes a 5G core (5GC) network, a 5G radio access network (5G-RAN) , a user equipment (5G UE) , etc. The 5G NR architecture seeks to provide increased data rates, decreased latency, and / or increased capacity compared to prior generation cellular communication systems.

[0003] Wireless communication systems, in general, provide various telecommunication services (e.g., telephony, video, data, messaging, etc. ) based on multiple-access technologies, such as orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) technologies, that support communication with multiple UEs. Improvements in mobile broadband continue the progression of such wireless communication technologies. For example, a UE can initiate a transmission of a CSI report (i.e., a UEI CSI report) . Extending lower layer (e.g., Layer 1 / Layer 2 or L1 / L2) triggered mobility (LTM) operation to a UEI CSI report may be complex and / or undefined.

[0004] BRIEF SUMMARY

[0005] The following presents a simplified summary of one or more aspects in order to provide a basic understanding of such aspects. This summary is not an extensive overview of all contemplated aspects. This summary neither identifies key or critical elements of all aspects nor delineates the scope of any or all aspects. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts of one or more aspects in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

[0006] A network entity, such as a base station or a unit of a base station, may communicate with a user equipment (UE) . The UE can transmit a channel state information (CSI) report to the network entity to facilitate the communication. The CSI report may include information pertaining to characteristics of a channel used for the communication. In an example, the CSI report includes a channel quality indicator (CQI) , a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) , a CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) resource indicator (CRI) , a synchronization signal (SS)  / physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block resource indicator (SSBRI) , a layer indicator (LI) , a rank indicator (RI) , and / or a layer 1 reference signal received power (L1-RSRP) . The network entity can perform beam related procedures (e.g., beam management, beam switching, etc. ) based on the CSI report.

[0007] In some wireless communication systems, a network entity triggers transmission of a CSI report / beam report by a UE. In an example, the network entity configures a CSI report configuration for beam measurement and reporting, where the CSI report configuration includes a list of synchronization signal block (SSB) or CSI-RS resources for beam measurements. The network entity transmits different SSB / CSI-RS resources by different beams. The UE performs measurements (e.g., L1-RSRP or layer 1 signal-to-interference noise ratio (LI-SINR) measurements) on the different beams. The UE transmits a CSI report / beam report to the network entity based on the measurements in a periodic manner, a semi-persistent manner, or an aperiodic manner. The network entity can provide a beam activation / deactivation indication to the UE based on the CSI report / beam report via a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) or spatial relation information.

[0008] In some cases, a quality of a beam between a UE and a network entity may change as a result of movement and / or rotation of the UE and / or as a result of a blockage between the UE and the network entity. The network entity may have limited information or no information as to when the quality of the beam changes. As result, the network entity may not be able to trigger a CSI report / beam report at a suitable time. The network entity can address this issue by triggering a beam report by the UE relatively frequently; however, this approach may increase a downlink activation / triggering signaling overhead, increase uplink overhead for beam reporting, and / or increase UE power consumption. The network entity can trigger a beam report by the UE less frequently; however, this approach may cause  performance degradation as the network entity may not identify a quality change in the beam which could lead to beam switching.

[0009] One approach to balancing maintenance of beam quality with signaling overhead and UE power consumption includes a UE initiated triggering of a CSI report / beam report (as opposed to network triggered) . Triggering a beam report in such a manner may be referred to as a UE initiated (UEI) beam report. In an example, a beam report is a multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) beam report. Triggering a CSI report in such a manner may be referred to as a UE initiated (UEI) CSI report.

[0010] Some wireless communication systems support lower layer triggered mobility (LTM) operation. In LTM operation, a network entity changes a cell of a UE via layer 1 (L1) signaling and / or layer 2 (L2) signaling. In contrast to a cell change via layer 3 (L3) signaling, LTM operation may reduce latency, overhead, and / or an interruption time during a serving cell change.

[0011] Extending LTM operation to a UEI CSI report (i.e., a UEI LTM CSI report) may be complex / undefined. For example, a UE transmits a UEI LTM CSI report via a medium access control (MAC) control element (MAC-CE) or uplink control information (UCI) , which may correspond to different report quantities. Furthermore, the UE LTM CSI report may collide with other types of CSI reports. The UE may not be configured with a defined procedure for handling the aforementioned collision. Moreover, the UE may not be configured with a defined procedure for obtaining reference signal (RS) set (s) for assessing a current beam / cell and / or the UE may not be configured with a defined procedure for assessing an LTM candidate beam / cell for a UEI LTM CSI report. Furthermore, details as to a CSI report configuration for a UEI LTM CSI report may not be defined.

[0012] Aspects of the present disclosure address the above-noted and other deficiencies by implementing procedures for performing a UEI LTM CSI report. Some aspects described herein pertain to determining content of the UEI LTM CSI report and a collision handling mechanism if a UE transmits the UEI LTM CSI report via a MAC-CE. Some aspects described herein pertain to determining content of the UEI LTM CSI report and a collision handling mechanism if the UE transmits the UEI LTM CSI report via UCI. Some aspects described herein pertain to resolving collisions between the UEI LTM CSI report and other types of CSI reports. Some aspects described herein pertain to obtaining RS set (s) for assessing a current beam / cell and / or obtaining RS set (s) for assessing an LTM candidate beam / cell for the UEI LTM CSI report.  Some aspects presented herein pertain to a design of a CSI report configuration for the UEI LTM CSI report. The aspects described herein may allow for a streamlined configuration / determination of an RS set for evaluating a cell / beam quality and / or a CSI report configuration for the UEI LTM CSI report, and hence may facilitate improved communications between a UE and a network entity.

[0013] According to some aspects, a user equipment (UE) receives, from a network entity, a configuration associated with a UE-initiated (UEI) lower layer triggered mobility (LTM) channel state information (CSI) report. The UE detects a triggering event. Responsive to the detecting the triggering event, the UE transmits, to the network entity via a signaling, at least one of the UEI LTM CSI report or a CSI report.

[0014] According to some aspects, a network entity transmits, to a user equipment (UE) , a configuration associated with a UE-initiated (UEI) lower layer triggered mobility (LTM) channel state information (CSI) report. The network entity receives, from the UE based on a triggering event, at least one of the UEI LTM CSI report or a CSI report via a signaling.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0037] FIG. 1 illustrates a diagram 100 of a wireless communications system associated with a plurality of cells 190. The wireless communications system includes user equipments (UEs) 102 and base stations / network entities 104. Some base stations may include an aggregated base station architecture and other base stations may include a disaggregated base station architecture. The aggregated base station architecture utilizes a radio protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within a single radio access network (RAN) node. A disaggregated base station architecture utilizes a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among two or more units (e.g., radio unit (RU) 106, distributed unit (DU) 108, central unit (CU) 110) . For example, a CU 110 is implemented within a RAN node, and one or more DUs 108 may be co-located with the CU 110, or alternatively, may be geographically or virtually distributed throughout one or multiple other RAN nodes. The DUs 108 may be implemented to communicate with one or more RUs 106. Any of the RU 106, the DU 108 and the CU 110 can be implemented as virtual units, such as a virtual radio unit (VRU) , a virtual distributed unit (VDU) , or a virtual central unit (VCU) . The base station / network entity 104 (e.g., an aggregated base station or disaggregated units of the base station, such as the RU 106 or the DU 108) , may be referred to as a transmission reception point (TRP) .

[0038] Operations of the base station 104 and / or network designs may be based on aggregation characteristics of base station functionality. For example, disaggregated base station architectures are utilized in an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open-radio access network (O-RAN) network, or a virtualized radio access network (vRAN) , which may also be referred to a cloud radio access network (C-RAN) . Disaggregation may include distributing functionality across the two or more units at various physical locations, as well as distributing functionality for at least one unit virtually, which can enable flexibility in network designs. The various units of the disaggregated base station architecture, or the disaggregated RAN architecture, can be configured for wired or wireless communication with at least one other unit. For example, the base stations 104d, 104e and / or the RUs 106a, 106b, 106c, 106d may communicate with the UEs 102a, 102b, 102c, 102d, and / or 102s via one or more  radio frequency (RF) access links based on a Uu interface. In examples, multiple RUs 106 and / or base stations 104 may simultaneously serve the UEs 102, such as by intra-cell and / or inter-cell access links between the UEs 102 and the RUs 106 / base stations 104.

[0039] The RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110 may include (or may be coupled to) one or more interfaces configured to transmit or receive information / signals via a wired or wireless transmission medium. For example, a wired interface can be configured to transmit or receive the information / signals over a wired transmission medium, such as via the fronthaul link 160 between the RU 106d and the baseband unit (BBU) 112 of the base station 104d associated with the cell 190d. The BBU 112 includes a DU 108 and a CU 110, which may also have a wired interface (e.g., midhaul link) configured between the DU 108 and the CU 110 to transmit or receive the information / signals between the DU 108 and the CU 110. In further examples, a wireless interface, which may include a receiver, a transmitter, or a transceiver, such as an RF transceiver, configured to transmit and / or receive the information / signals via the wireless transmission medium, such as for information communicated between the RU 106a of the cell 190a and the base station 104e of the cell 190e via cross-cell communication beams 136-138 of the RU 106a and the base station 104e.

[0040] The RUs 106 may be configured to implement lower layer functionality. For example, the RU 106 is controlled by the DU 108 and may correspond to a logical node that hosts RF processing functions, or lower layer PHY functionality, such as execution of fast Fourier transform (FFT) , inverse FFT (iFFT) , digital beamforming, physical random access channel (PRACH) extraction and filtering, etc. The functionality of the RU 106 may be based on the functional split, such as a functional split of lower layers.

[0041] The RUs 106 may transmit or receive over-the-air (OTA) communication with one or more UEs 102. For example, the RU 106b of the cell 190b communicates with the UE 102b of the cell 190b via a first set of communication beams 132 of the RU 106b and a second set of communication beams 134b of the UE 102b, which may correspond to inter-cell communication beams or, in some examples, cross-cell communication beams. For instance, the UE 102b of the cell 190b may communicate with the RU 106a of the cell 190a via a third set of communication beams 134a of the UE 102b and a fourth set of communication beams 136 of the RU 106a. DUs 108 can  control both real-time and non-real-time features of control plane and user plane communications of the RUs 106.

[0042] Any combination of the RU 106, the DU 108, and the CU 110, or reference thereto individually, may correspond to a base station 104. Thus, the base station 104 may include at least one of the RU 106, the DU 108, or the CU 110. The base stations 104 provide the UEs 102 with access to a core network. The base stations 104 may relay communications between the UEs 102 and the core network (not shown) . The base stations 104 may be associated with macrocells for higher-power cellular base stations and / or small cells for lower-power cellular base stations. For example, the cell 190e may correspond to a macrocell, whereas the cells 190a-190d may correspond to small cells. Small cells include femtocells, picocells, microcells, etc. A network that includes at least one macrocell and at least one small cell may be referred to as a “heterogeneous network. ”

[0043] Transmissions from a UE 102 to a base station 104 / RU 106 are referred to as uplink (UL) transmissions, whereas transmissions from the base station 104 / RU 106 to the UE 102 are referred to as downlink (DL) transmissions. Uplink transmissions may also be referred to as reverse link transmissions and downlink transmissions may also be referred to as forward link transmissions. For example, the RU 106d utilizes antennas of the base station 104d of cell 190d to transmit a downlink / forward link communication to the UE 102d or receive an uplink / reverse link communication from the UE 102d based on the Uu interface associated with the access link between the UE 102d and the base station 104d / RU 106d.

[0044] Communication links between the UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may be based on multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology, including spatial multiplexing, beamforming, and / or transmit diversity. The communication links may be associated with one or more carriers. The UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may utilize a spectrum bandwidth of Y MHz (e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20, 100, 400, 800, 1600, 2000, etc. MHz) per carrier allocated in a carrier aggregation of up to a total of Yx MHz, where x component carriers (CCs) are used for communication in each of the uplink and downlink directions. The carriers may or may not be adjacent to each other along a frequency spectrum. In examples, uplink and downlink carriers may be allocated in an asymmetric manner, with more or fewer carriers allocated to either the uplink or the downlink. A primary component carrier and one or more secondary component carriers may be included in the component  carriers. The primary component carrier may be associated with a primary cell (PCell) and a secondary component carrier may be associated with a secondary cell (SCell) .

[0045] Some UEs 102, such as the UEs 102a and 102s, may perform device-to-device (D2D) communications over sidelink. For example, a sidelink communication / D2D link utilizes a spectrum for a wireless wide area network (WWAN) associated with uplink and downlink communications. Such sidelink / D2D communication may be performed through various wireless communications systems, such as wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) systems, Bluetooth systems, Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, New Radio (NR) systems, etc.

[0046] The UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may each include a plurality of antennas. The plurality of antennas may correspond to antenna elements, antenna panels, and / or antenna arrays that may facilitate beamforming operations. For example, the RU 106b transmits a downlink beamformed signal based on a first set of communication beams 132 to the UE 102b in one or more transmit directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may receive the downlink beamformed signal based on a second set of communication beams 134b from the RU 106b in one or more receive directions of the UE 102b. In a further example, the UE 102b may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal (e.g., sounding reference signal (SRS) ) to the RU 106b based on the second set of communication beams 134b in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102b. The RU 106b may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102b in one or more receive directions of the RU 106b. The UE 102b may perform beam training to determine the best receive and transmit directions for the beamformed signals. The transmit and receive directions for the UEs 102 and the base stations 104 / RUs 106 may or may not be the same.

[0047] In further examples, beamformed signals may be communicated between a first base station / RU 106a and a second base station 104e. For instance, the base station 104e of the cell 190e may transmit a beamformed signal to the RU 106a based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the base station 104e. The RU 106a may receive the beamformed signal from the base station 104e of the cell 190e based on the RU communication beams 136 in one or more receive directions of the RU 106a. In further examples, the base station 104e transmits a downlink beamformed signal to the UE 102e based on the communication beams 138 in one or more transmit directions of the base station 104e. The UE 102e receives the downlink beamformed signal from the base station 104e based on UE communication  beams 130 in one or more receive directions of the UE 102e. The UE 102e may also transmit an uplink beamformed signal to the base station 104e based on the UE communication beams 130 in one or more transmit directions of the UE 102e, such that the base station 104e may receive the uplink beamformed signal from the UE 102e in one or more receive directions of the base station 104e.

[0048] The base station 104 may include and / or be referred to as a network entity. That is, “network entity” may refer to the base station 104 or at least one unit of the base station 104, such as the RU 106, the DU 108, and / or the CU 110. The base station 104 may also include and / or be referred to as a next generation evolved Node B (ng-eNB) , a next generation NB (gNB) , an evolved NB (eNB) , an access point, a base transceiver station, a radio base station, a radio transceiver, a transceiver function, a basic service set (BSS) , an extended service set (ESS) , a TRP, a network node, network equipment, or other related terminology. The base station 104 or an entity at the base station 104 can be implemented as an IAB node, a relay node, a sidelink node, an aggregated (monolithic) base station, or a disaggregated base station including one or more RUs 106, DUs 108, and / or CUs 110. A set of aggregated or disaggregated base stations may be referred to as a next generation-radio access network (NG-RAN) . In some examples, the UE 102a operates in dual connectivity (DC) with the base station 104e and the base station / RU 106a. In such cases, the base station 104e can be a master node and the base station / RU 160a can be a secondary node.

[0083] In some cases, for transmitting a UEI LTM CSI report via a MAC CE, if the UE 102 reports a measurement metric (e.g., L1-RSRP or L1-SINR) for a current beam or for a (current) serving cell, the UE 102 (only) reports the measurement metric without reporting a beam or RS index of a current beam, or without reporting a serving cell index or cell ID of the (current) serving cell. The UE 102 reports the UEI LTM CSI report via the MAC CE by placing the measurement metric of the current beam or the (current) serving cell as the last entry or report instance in the UEI LTM CSI report.

[0084] In some cases, for transmitting a UEI LTM CSI report via a MAC CE, the UE 102 further indicates, in the UEI LTM CSI report, which reported RS index (s) or which reported new / candidate beam (s) satisfy a triggering event for the UEI LTM CSI report.

[0085] FIG. 9 is a diagram 900 illustrating an example of aspects pertaining to a timer associated with a UEI LTM CSI report according to an embodiment. In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures / indicates the UE 102 with a first timer. In some cases, the network entity 104 configures / indicates the first timer for a serving cell or a cell group configured with an UEI LTM CSI report. In some cases, the UE 102 (re) starts 922 the first timer in response to transmission of a UEI LTM CSI report. In some cases, the UE 102 (re) starts 922 the first timer after an end of a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) carrying a UEI LTM CSI report.

[0086] In some aspects, if the UE 102 determines 952 that first timer expires, the UE 102 performs one of the following: the UE 102 determines 923a that the network entity 104 successfully received the UEI LTM CSI report or the UE 102 determines 942 that the network entity 104 has not successfully received the UEI LTM CSI report and / or the UE 102 performs 923b a retransmission of the UEI LTM CSI report. If the UE 102 determines that the network entity 104 has not successfully received the UEI LTM CSI report, the UE 102 can transmit a scheduling request (SR) to request an UL  grant. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 102 performs a retransmission of the UEI LTM CSI report.

[0087] In some aspects, the UE 102 stops or resets the first timer if the UE 102 receives 950 an acknowledgement (ACK) of the UEI LTM CSI report (e.g., an UL grant with a toggled new data indicator (NDI) field and a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) process number the same as a HARQ process number for a PUSCH carrying the UEI LTM CSI report, where the PUSCH carrying the UEI LTM CSI report and a PUSCH scheduled by the UL grant are in the same serving cell) . In another example, the ACK may be a cell switching command (CSC) . In some other aspects, the UE 102 stops or resets the first timer if the UE 102 receives 950 a cell switching command (CSC) .

[0088] FIG. 10 is a diagram 1000 illustrating examples of logical channel prioritization associated with a MAC-CE for a UEI LTM CSI report according to an embodiment. In some aspects, the UE 102 performs or applies a logical channel prioritization (LCP) procedure when the UE 102 performs a new transmission. The UE 102 determines to multiplex a logical channel (LC) from an LC with a highest priority to an LC with a lowest priority that can fit a transport block size for a PUSCH transmission. The UE 102 determines the priority for a MAC-CE for conveying an UEI LTM CSI report based on the same priority as a priority of other LCs. Alternatively, the UE 102 determines that a priority for a MAC-CE for conveying a UEI LTM CSI report is higher than priority of a first set of LCs and / or lower than a priority of a second set of LCs, where the first set of LCs and the second set of LCs may be predefined or configured by the network entity 104.

[0111] In some aspects, if time occupancy of physical channels scheduled to carry multiple CSI reports overlaps in at least one OFDM symbol and the UE 102 transmits the multiple CSI reports on the same carrier, the UE 102 can (attempt to) multiplex the multiple CSI reports on an UL resource. The UE 102 can multiplex a CSI report with a highest priority among the multiple CSI reports first. If the capacity of the UL resource to transmit CSI reports is not reached, the UE 102 can multiplex a CSI report with a second highest priority among the multiple CSI reports. The UE 102 can multiplex a CSI report with a next highest priority among the multiple CSI reports until a capacity of the UL resource to transmit CSI reports is reached. The UE 102 can drop CSI reports not (to be) multiplexed on the UL resource. If the UE 102 reports CSI in one part (e.g., through a one-part transmission) , the UE 102 can perform the multiplexing and / or drop the whole CSI in the (one) part. If the UE 102 reports the CSI in two parts (e.g., through a two-part transmission) , the UE 102 can perform the multiplexing and / or drop a CSI portion of each part separately. For CSI part 1 and / or CSI part 2, the UE 102 can perform the multiplexing and / or drop a whole CSI portion within a CSI part. Alternatively, the UE 102 can divide a CSI portion corresponding to a CSI part (e.g., CSI part 1 or CSI part 2) into multiple priority groups, and the UE 102 can perform the multiplexing and / or dropping at a priority group level. The content for each priority group may be pre-defined or the network entity 104 can configure the content for each priority group.

[0112] In some aspects, the UE 102 determines a priority or calculates a CSI priority value for a triggered / activated / configured / UE-initiated CSI report in multiple CSI reports. The UE 102 can determine a priority or calculate a CSI priority value via an equation or a rule. In some cases, the UE 102 determines that a CSI report with a lower CSI priority value has higher priority over another CSI report with a higher CSI priority value. The UE 102 can determine that a CSI report with a lowest CSI priority value has a highest priority. In some cases, the UE 102 performs the determination per priority group, if any.

[0113] In some other aspects, the UE 102 determines that a CSI report with a specific characteristic has higher priority over a CSI report with a different characteristic, regardless of a calculated CSI priority value. For example, the UE 102 prioritizes a UEI CSI report over an NWT CSI report. In another example, the UE 102 prioritizes an LTM CSI report over a CSI report for a serving cell of the UE. In another example, the UE 102 determines a priority order (for high to low) as: UEI LTM CSI report, NWT LTM CSI report, UEI beam report for a serving cell, and NWT CSI report for the serving cell. In another example, the UE 102 determines a priority order (from high to low) as: UEI LTM CSI report, UEI beam report for the serving cell, NWT LTM CSI report, and NWT CSI report for the serving cell. In some cases, the UE 102 performs the determination per priority group, if any.

[0114] FIG. 13 is a diagram 1300 illustrating an example of a priority order for CSI report sets according to an embodiment. In some aspects, for determining a priority of CSI report (s) to be transmitted on a same OFDM symbol and a same carrier, the UE 102 calculates a CSI priority value of a first set of CSI reports 1320a and a CSI priority value of a second set of CSI reports 1320b. In some cases, the UE 102 prioritizes CSI report (s) from the first set of CSI reports 1320a over CSI report (s) from second set of CSI reports 1320b. In some cases, the UE 102 prioritizes CSI report (s) from the first set of CSI reports 1320a over CSI report (s) from the second set of CSI reports 1320b regardless of a calculated CSI priority value. In some cases, the UE 102 determines a priority value of each CSI report among the same set (i.e., the first set of CSI reports 1320a or the second set of CSI reports 1320b) by the calculated CSI priority value and / or other rule (s) . In some cases, the UE performs the determination per priority group, if any.

[0115] In some aspects, the first set of CSI reports 1320a includes a UEI LTM CSI report and an NWT LTM CSI report and the second set of CSI reports 1320b includes a UEI beam report for a serving cell and an NWT CSI report for the serving cell.

[0116] In some aspects, the UE 102 determines a priority or calculates a CSI priority value (i.e., determines a priority order 1380) among the first set of CSI reports 1320a or the second set of CSI reports 1320b (separately) based on the following order. First, the UE 102 first determines a priority according to time domain behavior 1380a (priority from high to low or calculated CSI priority value from low to high) : UEI CSI reports, aperiodic (AP) CSI reports, semi-persistent (SP) CSI reports on a PUSCH, SP CSI reports on a PUCCH, periodic (P) CSI reports. Alternatively, the UE 102 first determines the priority according to the time domain behavior 1380a (priority from high to low or calculated CSI priority value from low to high) : AP CSI reports, UEI CSI reports, SP CSI reports on a PUSCH, SP CSI reports on a PUCCH, P CSI reports.

[0117] For CSI report (s) with the same time domain behavior, the UE 102 determines a priority according to CSI report quantity 1380b (priority from high to low or calculated CSI priority value from low to high) : CSI reports carrying L1-RSRP / L1-SINR measurements, CSI report not carrying L1-RSRP / L1-SINR measurements.

[0118] For CSI report (s) with the same time domain behavior and the same CSI report quantity, the UE 102 determines a priority according to serving cell index (priority from high to low or calculated CSI priority value from low to high) : serving cell index value 1380c (from low to high) . For an LTM CSI report, a serving cell index value indicates a serving cell (or a component carrier (CC) ) that configures a CSI report configuration. For a CSI report for a serving cell, a serving cell index value indicates a serving cell (or a CC) that contains a DL reference signal for a CSI measurement.

[0119] For CSI report (s) with the same time domain behavior, the same CSI report quantity, and the same serving cell index value, the UE 102 determines a priority according to a CSI report configuration index (priority from high to low or calculated CSI priority value from low to high) : CSI report configuration index 1380d (from low to high) . For an LTM CSI report, a CSI report configuration index corresponds to LTM-CSI-ReportConfig. For an NWT CSI report, a CSI report configuration index corresponds to CSI-ReportConfig.

[0120] In some aspects, for determining a priority of CSI reports, the UE 102 calculates a CSI priority value of the first set of CSI reports 1320a, a CSI priority value of the second set of CSI reports 1320b, a CSI priority value of a third set of CSI reports  1320c, and a CSI priority value of a fourth set of CSI reports 1320d. In some cases, the UE 102 determines a priority order from high to low for CSI report (s) from the first set of CSI reports 1320a, CSI report (s) from the second set of CSI reports 1320b, CSI report (s) from the third set of CSI reports 1320c, and CSI report (s) from the fourth set of CSI reports 1320d. In some cases, the UE 102 determines a priority order from high to low for CSI report (s) from the first set of CSI reports 1320a, CSI report (s) from the second set of CSI reports 1320b, CSI report (s) from the third set of CSI reports 1320c, and CSI report (s) from the fourth set of CSI reports 1320d regardless of a calculated CSI priority value. In some cases, the UE 102 determines a priority value of each CSI report among the same set (e.g., the first set of CSI reports 1320a, the second set of CSI reports 1320b, the third set of CSI reports 1320c, or the fourth set of CSI reports 1320d) by a calculated CSI priority value and / or other rule (s) . In some cases, the UE determines the priority order per priority group, if any.

[0121] In some aspects, the first set of CSI reports 1320a includes a UEI LTM CSI report, the second set of CSI reports 1320b includes an NWT LTM CSI report, the third set of CSI reports 1320c includes a UEI beam report for a serving cell, and the fourth set of CSI reports 1320d includes an NWT CSI report for the serving cell.

[0122] In some other aspects, the first set of CSI reports 1320a includes a UEI LTM CSI report, the second set of CSI reports 1320b includes a UEI beam report for a serving cell, the third set of CSI reports 1320c includes an NWT LTM CSI report, and the fourth set of CSI reports 1320d includes an NWT CSI report for the serving cell.

[0123] In some aspects, the UE 102 determines a priority or calculates a CSI priority value among the first set of CSI reports 1320a, the second set of CSI reports 1320b, the third set of CSI reports 1320c, or the fourth set of CSI reports 1320d (separately) based on the following. The UE 102 first determines the priority according to the time domain behavior 1380a (priority from high to low or calculated CSI priority value from low to high) : UEI CSI reports, AP CSI reports, SP CSI reports on a PUSCH, SP CSI reports on a PUCCH, and P CSI reports. The aforementioned priority may not apply for a set of CSI reports that includes UEI CSI report (s) or UEI CSI report (s) that have the same time domain behavior.

[0124] For CSI report (s) with the same time domain behavior, the UE 102 determines a priority according to the CSI report quantity 1380b (priority from high to low or calculated CSI priority value from low to high) : CSI reports carrying L1-RSRP / L1-SINR measurements, CSI report not carrying L1-RSRP / L1-SINR measurements.

[0125] For CSI report (s) with the same time domain behavior and the same CSI report quantity, the UE 102 determines a priority according to a serving cell index (priority from high to low or calculated CSI priority value from low to high) : the serving cell index value 1380c (from low to high) . For an LTM CSI report, a serving cell index value indicates a serving cell (or CC) that configures a CSI report configuration. For a CSI report for a serving cell, a serving cell index value indicates a serving cell (or a CC) that contains a DL reference signal for a CSI measurement.

[0126] For CSI report (s) with the same time domain behavior, the same CSI report quantity, and the same serving cell index value, the UE 102 determines a priority according to a CSI report configuration index 1380d (priority from high to low) or calculated CSI priority value (from low to high) : CSI report configuration index value (from low to high) . For an LTM CSI report, a CSI report configuration index corresponds to LTM-CSI-ReportConfig. For an NWT CSI report, a CSI report configuration index corresponds to CSI-ReportConfig.

[0127] It is noted or understood that when the UE 102 determines a priority or a CSI priority value for multiple CSI reports on an overlapped OFDM symbol (time domain) and a carrier (frequency domain) , it is possible that not both of the first and the second set of CSI report (s) are present on the overlapped OFDM symbol and the carrier, or not all of the first, second, third, and fourth set of the CSI report (s) are present on the overlapped OFDM symbol and the carrier.

[0128] FIG. 14 is a diagram 1400 illustrating an example of a UEI LTM CSI report configuration according to an embodiment. In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures / indicates, to the UE 102, that a UEI LTM CSI report may (only) include a beam report. In some other aspects, the network entity 104 configures / indicates, to the UE 102, that a UEI LTM CSI report includes a beam report or a CSI report for channel quality acquisition.

[0129] In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures / indicates, to the UE 102, that an NWT LTM CSI report may (only) include a beam report. In some other aspects, the network entity 104 configures / indicates, to the UE 102, that an NWT LTM CSI report may include a beam report or a CSI report for channel quality acquisition.

[0130] In some aspects, the network entity 104 refrains from configuring some of the following reports together for a same bandwidth part (BWP) , for a same serving cell, for a same LTM candidate cell, for multiple LTM candidate cell (s) , for a same CSI resource set, or for / under a LTM configuration (e.g., LTM-Config) : a UEI LTM CSI  report, an NWT LTM CSI report, a UEI beam report for a serving cell, or an NWT CSI report for the serving cell.

[0131] In an example, the network entity 104 refrains from configuring a UEI LTM CSI report and an NWT LTM CSI report together for the same LTM candidate cell. In another example, the network entity 104 refrains from configuring a UEI beam report for a serving cell and an NWT CSI report for the serving cell together for a same CSI resource set. In some aspects, the UE 102 reports a UE capability indicating whether the UE 102 supports one or multiple combinations of the aforementioned configurations. In some aspects, the UE 102 reports a UE capability indicating whether the UE 102 supports a UEI LTM CSI report, a UEI beam report for the serving cell, and / or both the UEI LTM CSI report and the UEI beam report.

[0132] In some aspects, if the UE 102 determines to transmit a UEI LTM CSI report (or a UEI beam report for a serving cell) in a first slot, and if an UL resource exists in a second slot for an NWT LTM CSI report configured with the same report quantity (or an NWT beam report for a serving cell) , the UE 102 performs one of the following: the UE 102 (still) transmits the UEI LTM CSI report (or a UEI beam report for the serving cell) in the first slot or the UE 102 (only) transmits the NWT LTM CSI report configured with the same report quantity (or an NWT beam report for the serving cell) .

[0133] In some aspects, the UE 102 determines / considers that an UL resource for an NWT LTM CSI report (or an NWT beam report for a serving cell) is upcoming based on one of the following: time slot (s) or a time interval configured / indicated by the network entity 104 or a time gap between current slot / timing and an UL resource for the NWT LTM CSI report (or the NWT beam report for a serving cell) or a decision of the UE 102.

[0134] In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures / indicates a second timer to the UE 102. In some cases, the network entity 104 configures / indicates the second timer to the UE 102 if the network entity 104 configures / indicates the UE 102 to perform a UEI LTM CSI report (or a UEI beam report for a serving cell) .

[0135] In some aspects, the UE 102 starts the second timer after the UE 102 transmits an NWT LTM CSI report (or an NWT beam report for a serving cell) . If the second timer has not expired, the UE 102 refrains from transmitting a UEI LTM CSI report with a same report quantity as the NWT LTM CSI report (or the UEI beam report for the serving cell) . If the second timer expires, the UE 102 transmits a UEI LTM CSI  report with a same report quantity as an NWT LTM CSI report (or the UEI beam report for the serving cell) upon detecting a corresponding triggering event.

[0136] In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures the UE 102 with configuration (s) associated with a UEI LTM CSI report for an LTM candidate cell, multiple LTM candidate cell (s) , a cell group, or for / under a LTM configuration (e.g., LTM-Config) . The configuration (s) associated with UEI LTM CSI report (i.e., a UEI LTM CSI report configuration 1404) may include or refer to at least one of the following: measurement RS configuration (s) for a current beam 1482, measurement RS configuration (s) for a new / candidate beam 1484, configuration (s) indicating which mode 1486 of the UEI LTM CSI report the UE 102 is to perform / operate in (e.g., a first mode or a second mode) , or configuration (s) 1488 indicating whether the UE 102 transmits the UEI LTM CSI report via a MAC-CE or UCI.

[0137] In some cases, the current beam refers to an indicated TCI state (e.g., joint / DL / UL TCI state) , a quasi-colocation (QCL) assumption, a joint / DL / UL TCI state applied for a channel or a RS not following / applying the indicated TCI state, an activated TCI state, or an activated TCI state with a measurement metric (e.g., L1-RSRP / L1-SINR) . In some cases, the UE 102 implicitly derives measurement RS configuration (s) for a current beam from a QCL RS of an indicated TCI state or an SSB quasi-colocated (QCLed) with a QCL RS in an indicated TCI state, or explicitly configured by radio resource control (RRC) signaling or a MAC-CE.

[0138] In some cases, the network entity 104 explicitly configures measurement RS configuration (s) for a new beam or a candidate beam by RRC signaling (e.g., reusing a configuration of an RS measurement or a configuration associated with a TCI state) or a MAC-CE. In some cases, the UE 102 implicitly derives measurement RS configuration (s) for a new beam or a candidate beam from QCL RS (s) of indicated TCI state (s) or from QCL RS (s) of configured / activated TCI state (s) . In some cases, the network entity 104 configures measurement gap (s) for the UE 102 to perform measurements for the RS (s) for a new / candidate beam, and the UE 102 refrains from receiving other DL signal from a current serving cell during the measurement gap.

[0139] In some cases, the UE 102 supports a MAC-CE, a UCI, or the MAC-CE and the UCI.

[0140] In some aspects, the UE 102 assesses / evaluates a (quality of) a current serving cell based on measurement RS configuration (s) for current beam (s) (e.g., one or more indicated TCI state (s) or one or more activated TCI state (s) ) . In some aspects, the UE  102 assesses / evaluates a (quality of) LTM candidate cell (s) based on measurement RS configuration (s) for a new / candidate beam.

[0141] In some aspects, the UE 102 performs a first mode or a second mode of a UEI LTM CSI report regardless of a signaling medium (e.g., MAC-CE or UCI) used to transmit the UEI LTM CSI report.

[0142] In some aspects, if the network entity 104 configures the UE 102 to operate in a first mode (e.g., as reflected in FIG. 2) of UEI LTM CSI report, the UE 102 and / or the network entity 104 perform the following actions. The UE 102 transmits a request signal on a PUCCH to request an UL resource for an UL channel to transmit a UEI LTM CSI report. In such a case, a capability of the PUCCH or a length of the request signal includes one bit. Alternatively, the capability of the PUCCH or the length of the request signal include multiple bits. In such a case, if the request signal includes multiple bits and if the UE 102 transmits the UEI LTM CSI report via a MAC-CE, the request signal indicates buffer status or a length of the MAC-CE. In such a case, the request signal is a scheduling request (SR) or a new UCI (i.e., a UCI other than a SR / hybrid automatic repeat request acknowledgment (HARQ-ACK)  / CSI) . In such a case, the UE 102 transmits the request signal in response to detecting one or more events for triggering a UEI LTM CSI report. In some aspects, the UE 102 reports whether the request signal corresponds to a UEI LTM CSI report, a UEI beam report for a serving cell, or the UEI LTM CSI report and the UEI beam report for the serving cell. The network entity 104 transmits a first response (e.g., first DCI) to the UE 102 in response to receiving the request signal. The UE 102 detects or receives the first DCI from the network entity 104, where the first DCI indicates an UL resource for an UL channel for the UE 102 to transmit the UEI LTM CSI report. The UE 102 transmits the UEI LTM CSI report on the UL resource for the UL channel indicated by the first DCI. In such a case, the UL channel may be a dynamic grant (DG) -PUSCH, a configured grant (CG) -PUSCH, or a PUCCH.

[0143] In some cases, if an available UL channel exists, the UE 102 skips transmitting the request signal to the network entity 104 and / or the UE 102 transmits the UEI LTM CSI report on the available UL channel. In some cases, the UE 102 determines whether there is available UL channel by a decision of the UE 102 (e.g., by considering a waiting time until a next transmission occasion of an UL channel) . In some aspects, the request signal for a UEI LTM CSI report includes one bit or multiple bits and the request signal for a UEI CSI report for a serving cell may include one bit.

[0144] In some aspects, if the network entity 104 configures the UE 102 to operate in a second mode (e.g., as reflected in FIG. 4) of UEI LTM CSI report, the UE 102 and / or the network entity 104 perform the following actions. The network entity 104 pre-configures one or more UL resources for UL channel (s) for the UE 102 to transmit a UEI LTM CSI report. The UE 102 transmits a notification signal on a PUCCH to notify (i.e., indicate) a pre-configured UL resource for the UL channel (s) . In such a case, a capability of the PUCCH or a length of the notification signal may include one bit. Alternatively, the capability of the PUCCH or the length of the notification signal may include multiple bits. In such a case, if the notification signal includes multiple bits and if the network entity 104 pre-configures one or more UL resources corresponding to different capabilities and if the UE 102 transmits the UEI LTM CSI report via a MAC-CE, the notification signal indicates a capability associated with a notified pre-configured UL resource. In such a case, the notification signal may be an SR or a UCI other than SR / HARQ-ACK / CSI. In such a case, the UE 102 transmits the notification signal in response to detecting one or more event (s) for triggering a UEI LTM CSI report. In some aspects, the UE 102 reports whether the notification signal corresponds to a UEI LTM CSI report, a UEI beam report for a serving cell, or the UEI LTM CSI report and the UEI beam report. The network entity 104 transmits a second response (e.g., a second DCI or another DL signal) to the UE 102 in response to receiving the notification signal. The UE 102 detects or receives the second response from the network entity 104. The UE 102 transmits the UEI LTM CSI report on the preconfigured UL resource for the UL channel (s) notified / indicated by the notification signal. In such a case, the UL channel (s) may be or include a DG-PUSCH, a CG-PUSCH, and / or a PUCCH for UEI LTM CSI reporting via UCI. In such a case, the UL channel (s) includes a DG-PUSCH, a CG-PUSCH, and / or a PUCCH for UEI LTM CSI reporting via a MAC-CE. In some aspects, the notification signal for the UEI LTM CSI report includes one bit or multiple bits and the notification signal for a UEI CSI report for a serving cell includes one bit.

[0145] In some aspects, the network entity 104 indicates or configures a dedicated RRC parameter to indicate which mode of UEI LTM CSI report is to be used. In some cases, the network entity 104 configures the dedicated RRC parameter for a serving cell or a cell group. In some other aspects, the network entity 104 indicates or the UE 102 determines which mode of UEI LTM CSI reporting is to be used based on whether the network entity 104 (pre-) configures one or more resources for an UL channel for  a UEI LTM CSI report. For example, if the network entity 104 does not (pre-)configure one or more resources for an UL channel for a UEI LTM CSI report for a serving cell or a cell group, the UE 102 determine the first mode is to be used for the serving cell or the cell group. If the network entity 104 (pre-) configures one or more resources for an UL channel for a UEI LTM CSI report for a serving cell or a cell group, the UE 102 determines the second mode is to be used for the serving cell or the cell group.

[0146] In some aspects, the network entity 104 configures the UE 102 with a CSI report configuration for a UEI beam report for a serving cell. For example, the network entity 104 configures the UE 102 with CSI-ReportConfig.

[0147] In some aspects, a CSI report configuration for a UEI beam report for a serving cell includes one or more CSI resource set (s) . In some cases, the network entity 104 configures or indicates that the one or more CSI resource set (s) are used for or associated with channel measurement. In some cases, each of the one or more CSI resource sets corresponds to a serving cell (or a CC) .

[0148] In some aspects, the UE 102 transmits a request signal on a PUCCH to request an UL resource for an UL channel for the UE 102 to transmit a UEI beam report for a serving cell. The UE 102 receives a first DCI from the network entity 104. In some cases, the first DCI indicates or triggers a CSI report configuration for a UEI beam report for a serving cell.

[0149] In some aspects, the UE 102 transmits a UEI beam report for a serving cell. In some cases, the UE 102 indicates, in the UEI beam report for a serving cell, a set index of one or more CSI resource set (s) in a CSI report configuration indicated / triggered by the first DCI, where the UE 102 detects triggering events (s) on reported CSI resource set (s) or a corresponding serving cell / CC.

[0150] In some aspects, the UEI beam report for a serving cell includes a two-part CSI report. In some aspects, a number of reported beam (s)  / RS (s) is the same across reported CSI resource set (s) in the UEI beam report for a serving cell. In some other aspects, the UEI beam report for a serving cell includes a one-part CSI report. The network entity 104 and UE 102 determine a payload size for the UEI beam report for a serving cell based on a configuration from the network entity 104 and the UE 102 multiplexes some paddings if the payload for an actual UCI is smaller than the payload size.

[0192] Reference to an element in the singular does not mean “one and only one” unless specifically stated, but rather “one or more. ” Terms such as “if, ” “when, ” and “while” do not imply an immediate temporal relationship or reaction. That is, these phrases, e.g., “when, ” do not imply an immediate action in response to or during the occurrence of an action, but simply imply that if a condition is met then an action will occur, but without requiring a specific or immediate time constraint for the action to occur. The terms “may” , “might” , and “can” , as used in this disclosure, often carry certain connotations. For example, “may” refers to a permissible feature that may or may not occur, “might” refers to a feature that probably occurs, and “can” refers to a capability (e.g., capable of) . The phrase “For example” often carries a similar connotation to “may” and, therefore, “may” is sometimes excluded from sentences that include “for example” or other similar phrases.

[0193] Unless specifically stated otherwise, the term “some” refers to one or more. Combinations such as “at least one of A, B, or C” or “one or more of A, B, or C” include any combination of A, B, and / or C, such as A and B, A and C, B and C, or A and B and C, and may include multiples of A, multiples of B, and / or multiples of C, or may include A only, B only, or C only. Sets should be interpreted as a set of elements where the elements number one or more. Terms or articles such as “a” , “an” , and / or “the” may refer to one of an item, feature, element, etc., that the term or article precedes, or may refer to more than one of said item, feature, element, etc. that the term or article precedes. For example, the recitation “awidget” does not preclude reference to multiples of said widget, as “multiple widgets” necessarily includes “awidget” . Hence, the recitation “awidget” may be interpreted as “at least one widget” or, similarly, interpreted as “one or more widgets” .

[0194] Unless otherwise specifically indicated, ordinal terms such as “first” and “second” do not necessarily imply an order in time, sequence, numerical value, etc., but are used to distinguish between different instances of a term or phrase that follows each ordinal term.

[0195] Reference numbers, as used in the specification and figures, are sometimes cross-referenced among drawings to denote same or similar features. A feature that is exactly the same in multiple drawings may be labeled with the same reference number in the multiple drawings. A feature that is similar among the multiple drawings, but not exactly the same, may be labeled with reference numbers that have different leading numbers but have one or more of the same trailing numbers (e.g., 206, 306, 406, etc., may refer to similar features in the drawings) . Hence, like numbers may refer to like actions.

[0196] Structural and functional equivalents to elements of the various aspects described throughout this disclosure that are known or later come to be known to those of ordinary skill in the art are expressly incorporated herein by reference and are encompassed by the claims. The words “module, ” “mechanism, ” “element, ” “device, ” and the like may not be a substitute for the word “means. ” As such, no claim element is to be construed as a means plus function unless the element is expressly recited using the phrase “means for. ” As used herein, the phrase “based on” shall not be construed as a reference to a closed set of information, one or more conditions, one or more factors, or the like. In other words, the phrase “based on A” , where “A” may be information, a condition, a factor, or the like, shall be construed as “based at least on A” unless specifically recited differently.
