Description

Network node, base station, and communication method

[0001] The present invention relates to a terminal, a network node, a base station, and a communication method in a communication system.

[0002] 3GPP (registered trademark) (3rd Generation Partnership Project) is currently studying a wireless communication system called 5G or NR (New Radio) (hereinafter, the wireless communication system will be referred to as "5G" or "NR") in order to achieve a larger system capacity, a higher data transmission speed, and a lower latency in wireless sections. Various wireless technologies are being studied for 5G to meet the requirements of achieving a throughput of 10 Gbps or more while keeping latency in wireless sections to 1 ms or less.

[0003] In NR, a network architecture including 5GC (5G Core Network) corresponding to EPC (Evolved Packet Core), which is the core network in the network architecture of LTE (Long Term Evolution), and NG-RAN (Next Generation - Radio Access Network) corresponding to E-UTRAN (Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network), which is the RAN (Radio Access Network) in the network architecture of LTE, is being considered (for example, Non-Patent Document 1).

[0004] Furthermore, as an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) architecture that supports the data channel capabilities of terminals, specifications for an IMS data channel network are being studied (see, for example, Non-Patent Document 2). In the IMS data channel network, a Data Channel Signalling Function (DCSF) having a signaling function, a Media Function (MF) having a media-related function, and a Data Channel Application Server (DCAS) that is an application server are arranged on both the calling and called sides.

[0005] Furthermore, in 3GPP Rel-19, in order to realize IMS voice terminal-satellite-terminal communication (UE-satellite-UE communication), reducing the impact on existing specifications when deploying 5GC network functions and IMS components on satellites is an issue (see, for example, Non-Patent Document 3). Here, terminal-satellite-terminal communication refers to terminal-to-terminal communication under routing that keeps user plane traffic within the satellite. The types of satellites handled include geostationary satellites (GEO), low Earth orbit satellites (LEO), and medium Earth orbit satellites (MEO). Furthermore, for low Earth orbit satellites and medium Earth orbit satellites, satellite constellations can be formed without using inter-satellite links (ISLs) or using inter-satellite links.

[0006] 3GPP TS 23.501 V18.6.0 (2024-06) 3GPP TS 23.228 V18.6.0 (2024-06) 3GPP TR23.700-29 V19.0.0 (2024-06) 3GPP TS 38.300 V18.2.0 (2024-06)

[0007] In communications using low earth orbit (LEO) satellites, if the LEO satellite is equipped with a base station, the tracking area (TA) notified to the terminal and the mapped cell identifier (Mapped Cell ID, see Non-Patent Document 4) transmitted to the AMF change according to the movement of the LEO satellite. The TA and Mapped Cell ID are fixedly associated with specific areas on the ground. Here, if the LEO satellite is equipped with a base station, the AMF cannot transmit paging to the terminal because it cannot identify the base station that transmits the paging.

[0008] The present invention has been made in view of the above-mentioned points, and has as its object to transmit paging in a wireless communication system using a satellite.

[0009] According to the disclosed technology, a network node is provided that has a receiving unit that receives a message requesting paging of a terminal from a first network node, a control unit that recognizes that a satellite constellation is accommodating the terminal, and a transmitting unit that transmits a paging message including information indicating a paging transmission area to any base station mounted on any satellite belonging to the satellite constellation.

[0010] According to the disclosed technology, paging can be transmitted in a wireless communication system using a satellite.

[0024] Fig. 3 is a diagram illustrating an example of an IMS data channel network. As shown in Fig. 3, the IMS data channel network is configured with a terminal 20 (UE) and multiple network nodes 30 in each of an originating network and a terminating network. Hereinafter, it is assumed that one network node 30 corresponds to each function, but multiple functions may be realized by one network node 30, or multiple network nodes 30 may realize one function. Furthermore, the "connection" described below may be a logical connection or a physical connection. The network node 30 has, for example, the following functions described in Non-Patent Document 2:

[0025] The IMS-AGW (Access Gateway) is a network node 30 having a gateway function between the UE and the IMS network, a function related to access processing for voice communication, and the like.

[0026] A P-CSCF (Proxy-Call Session Control Function) is a network node 30 that has a proxy function between the UE and the IMS network, an access control function for voice communication, and the like.

[0027] The S-CSCF (Serving-Call Session Control Function) is a network node 30 having functions related to session control for the UE.

[0028] The I-CSCF (Interrogate-Call Session Control Function) is a connection point on the destination network side between networks (e.g., between the source network side and the destination network side) in the IMS network, and is a network node 30 that has, for example, the function of forwarding a received SIP request to the S-CSCF of its own network.

[0029] An IMS AS (IP Multimedia Subsystem Application Server) is a network node 30 in an IMS network that has functions such as communicating with a DCSF for event notification and receiving data channel control instructions from the DCSF to communicate with an MF. The IMS AS also receives a communication termination point registration request from a DCSF (Data Channel Signalling Function), converts the received registration request into a SIP Register, and sends it to a Serving-Call Session Control Function (S-CSCF). The IMS AS also converts a data channel establishment request received from the DCSF into a SIP INVITE and sends it to the S-CSCF.

[0030] The DCSF (Data Channel Signaling Function) is a network node 30 that has functions such as receiving an event report from the IMS-AS and determining whether to allow the provision of a data channel service, managing the bootstrap data channel, and performing HTTP web server functions.

[0031] An MF (Media Function) is a network node 30 in an IMS network that has functions such as media resource management and forwarding of data channel media traffic. The MF processes media between a DCAS (Data Channel Application Server), which is a communication termination point, and a destination termination point based on configuration information received from a DCSF. The MF may also be called a DCMF (Data Channel Media Function). The MF may also be called an MRF (Multimedia Resource Function).

[0032] A DCAS (Data Channel Application Server) is a network node 30 having functions such as a communication termination point for media and signaling in the IMS network.

[0033] (Example) In communications using a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite, if the LEO satellite is equipped with a base station, the tracking area (TA) reported to the terminal 20 and the mapped cell ID (Mapped Cell ID, see Non-Patent Document 4) transmitted to the AMF change as the LEO satellite moves. The TA and Mapped Cell ID correspond fixedly to specific terrestrial regions. However, even if the LEO satellite moves, the PCI (Physical Cell Identifier), NR CGI (Cell Global Identifier) reported to the terminal 20, and the NR CGI notified to other base stations 10 do not change. Here, if the LEO satellite is equipped with a base station 10, the AMF cannot identify the base station 10 that should transmit the paging, and therefore cannot transmit the paging to the terminal 20.

[0034] (Paging Transmission Method) Paging transmission methods include a TA-based transmission method and an optimized transmission method.

[0035] In a transmission method based on TA, in the case of communication over a terrestrial network, the AMF stores information associating a global base station identifier (Global gNB ID) with a tracking area identifier (Tracking Area Identity, TAI) after a connection (NG Setup) procedure with the base station 10. When transmitting a paging message, the AMF derives the corresponding Global gNB ID from the TAI list that constitutes the RA (Registration Area) of the terminal 20, and transmits the paging message to the derived base station 10.

[0036] On the other hand, in the case of satellite constellation communication (when base stations are deployed on LEO satellites), the correspondence between the Global gNB ID and the TAI changes over time, and the AMF does not store information associating the Global gNB ID with the TAI, so it is not possible to derive the base station 10 to which paging is to be sent. In the case of satellite constellation communication, for example, paging is handled based on the following procedure, but this does not work properly.

[0037] S1: At time Ta, terminal 20 transmits a mobility registration to base station 10A on LEO satellite #1.

[0038] S2: Base station 10A sends a mobility registration to AMF via the ISL (Inter Satellite Link), via other LEO satellites #2 and #3, and via a distant feeder ring.

[0039] S3: The AMF stores the TAI list of the terminal.

[0040] S4: AMF decides to send a paging message at time Tb.

[0041] S5: The AMF decides to send the paging to the base station 10B that covers the area indicated by the TAI list (i.e., the area covered by the base station 10A at time Ta) at time Tb. However, the AMF does not have information about which base station the base station 10B actually is.

[0042] In the optimized transmission method, in the case of communication in a terrestrial network, the AMF receives information (Global gNB ID and NR CGI) regarding the paging recommended RAN node and cell when the terminal context in the base station 10 is released, and sends paging to the corresponding base station 10.

[0043] On the other hand, in the case of satellite constellation communication (when base stations are deployed on LEO satellites), a mapped cell ID is set to the paging recommended RAN node and cell. However, the AMF cannot derive the base station 10 having the mapped cell ID when transmitting paging.

[0044] In this embodiment, a method for transmitting paging in a wireless communication system using a satellite will be described.

[0045] In this embodiment, the AMF transmits a paging message to any base station 10A on any satellite in the satellite constellation that accommodates the terminal 20. The base station 10A identifies the base station 10B on the satellite currently located above the corresponding area based on the TAI list or Mapped Cell ID of the paging message, and forwards the paging message to the base station 10B. If the base station 10A does not have information about other base stations in the satellite constellation, it broadcasts the paging message within the satellite constellation.

[0046] The details of the processing in this embodiment will be described below using a sequence diagram. Requests, responses, notifications, etc. sent and received in the procedures described below may be called messages (e.g., request messages). FIG. 4 shows an example of a sequence diagram in an embodiment of the present invention. This sequence includes a first method and a second method for paging transmission. The processing of each step will be described below.

[0047] S101: The AMF 30A stores the satellite constellation identifier in the terminal context of the terminal 20.

[0048] S102: SMF 30B sends a request message (Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer request) to AMF 30A requesting paging of terminal 20.

[0049] S103: AMF 30A sends a response message (Namf_Communication_N1N2MessageTransfer response) to SMF 30B in response to the request message received in S102.

[0050] S104: AMF 30A generates a paging message based on the procedure of the existing specification. Here, a terrestrial fixed TAI list is stored in AMF 30A as a TAI list of the terminal context. In some cases, a Mapped Cell ID is stored as a paging recommended RAN node and cell. AMF 30A sets the TAI list in the paging message. In some cases, AMF 30A also sets the Mapped Cell ID in the paging message.

[0051] S105: AMF 30A decides to send a paging message to any base station (base station 10A) deployed on any satellite corresponding to the satellite constellation identifier included in the terminal context of terminal 20. That is, AMF 30A determines that if the satellite constellations are the same, the orbits are the same and one of the satellites in the satellite constellation currently covers the area where terminal 20 is located.

[0052] S106: The AMF 30A transmits a paging message to the base station 10A. The message may include a TAI list, or a TAI list and a Mapped Cell ID, as information indicating a paging transmission area. For example, the message is expressed as Paging(TAI list, Assistance Data for Paging(Assistance Data for Recommended Cells(Mapped Cell ID))).

[0053] S107: Based on the message received in S106, the base station 10A recognizes that it does not currently cover the paging transmission area.

[0054] The following steps S108 to S110 are processes relating to the first method of paging transmission.

[0055] S108: Based on the information stored in the base station 10A, the base station 10A finds and selects the base station (base station 10C) that currently corresponds to the paging transmission area within the satellite constellation.

[0056] S109: The base station 10A transmits a paging message including information indicating a paging transmission area to the base station 10C. For example, the message is expressed as Paging(TAI list, Assistance Data for Paging(Assistance Data for Recommended Cells(Mapped Cell ID))).

[0057] S110: The base station 10C transmits a paging message to the terminal 20.

[0058] The following steps S111 to S114 are processes relating to the second method of paging transmission.

[0059] S111: It is assumed that the base station 10A does not currently have information about other base stations in the satellite constellation within its own device.

[0060] S112: The base station 10A broadcasts a paging message including information indicating a paging transmission area to multiple base stations (in this sequence, the base station 10B and the base station 10C). For example, the message is expressed as Paging(TAI list, Assistance Data for Paging(Assistance Data for Recommended Cells(Mapped Cell ID))).

[0061] S113: The base station 10C recognizes that it currently covers the paging transmission area based on the message received in S112, and transmits a paging message to the terminal 20.

[0062] According to the above-described embodiment, paging can be transmitted in a wireless communication system using satellites.
