[0057] An embodiment of the present disclosure will be described in more detail with reference to the attached drawings below.

[0058] FIG. 1 is a drawing for explaining an electronic device (100) that displays an image according to one embodiment.

[0059] Referring to FIG. 1, the electronic device (100) may be a device that displays an image. The electronic device (100) may be a display device that includes a panel for displaying an image.

[0060] The electronic device (100) can be connected to an external device (200). The electronic device (100) can receive an image or a control command from the external device (200).

[0061] The electronic device (100) can display an image received from an external device (200). The electronic device (100) can perform a control operation based on a control command received from the external device (200).

[0062] The electronic device (100) can operate in multiple modes. The electronic device (100) can operate in one of a first mode, a second mode, or a third mode. The first mode may be a normal mode, the second mode may be a power-saving mode, and the third mode may be a communication standby mode.

[0063] The third mode may be a power saving mode to save power by supplying power only to the preset modules.

[0064] The second mode may be a communication standby mode that additionally supplies power to modules performing communication functions in addition to the modules supplied in the power-saving mode. The communication standby mode may be described as a network standby mode, an external communication mode, etc.

[0065] The first mode may be a normal mode in which power can be supplied to all modules included in the electronic device (100). The normal mode may be a mode in which power is supplied to the main processor.

[0066] For example, the electronic device (100) may be e-Paper (electronic-Paper). The electronic device (100) may be described as electronic paper, an electronic book, an e-Paper display, an e-Paper device, an e-Paper apparatus, etc.

[0067] An electronic device (100) can display an image using electronic ink. The electronic ink can include colored particles (e.g., black and white particles). The electronic device (100) can display an image using microcapsules containing electronic ink. The electronic ink contained in the microcapsules can have particles of a first color (e.g., white) that are positively charged, and particles of a second color (e.g., black) that are negatively charged. The electronic device (100) can display an image by electrically controlling the microcapsules.

[0068] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (100) can display various colors using microcapsules and color filters including white particles and black particles.

[0069] The electronic device (100) can control the first color particles of electronic ink contained in the microcapsules to be positioned above the panel or the second color particles to be positioned above the panel by applying a voltage to the display module. An image can be displayed depending on which particle is displayed above.

[0070] The electronic device (100) can apply a voltage to place particles based on image pixel values. The operation of placing particles by applying a voltage can be performed in a normal mode.

[0071] When the particles are positioned by applying voltage, the electronic device (100) does not need to apply additional voltage to continue displaying the image. The electronic device (100) can change the normal mode to the power saving mode. While the image is displayed, the electronic device (100) can operate in the power saving mode. The electronic device (100) can apply voltage to some components even in the power saving mode. The electronic device (100) can update the image at preset intervals.

[0072] Image updating may include an operation of displaying the same image as the existing image once again. Image updating may include an operation of rearranging the arrangement of arranged particles. The electronic device (100) may initialize the arrangement of already arranged particles. The electronic device (100) may rearrange the arrangement of the initialized particles based on the image pixel values. Consequently, the electronic device (100) may display the same image by performing the image updating operation. Through the image updating operation, the electronic device (100) may prevent afterimages of the e-Paper. The preset time may be changed according to the user's settings.

[0073] The electronic device (100) may include one of an electrophoretic display, an electrowetting display, or an interferometric modulator display.

For times applied in different embodiments, the first time may be described as the third time, and the second time as the fourth time. In the description below, for the convenience of each description, the first time concept appearing in each embodiment may be described as the first time, and the second time concept may be described as the second time.

[0102] If the time concepts are identical, either the first or second time expression can be maintained. Even if the embodiments differ slightly, the same ordinal time expression can be described. The first time expression can be maintained for the time concept applied in power-saving mode, and the second time expression can be maintained for the time concept applied in communication standby mode.

[0256] FIG. 20 is a drawing for explaining an operation of displaying the remaining battery capacity according to one embodiment.

[0257] Referring to FIG. 20, a first image may be displayed in power saving mode. The electronic device (100) may identify an event that indicates the arrival of a first time (S2001). When the first time arrives, the electronic device (100) may generate a first wake-up signal (S2002). The first wake-up signal may include a signal for changing to a normal mode.

[0258] The electronic device (100) can change from a power saving mode to a normal mode based on the first wake-up signal. In the normal mode, the electronic device (100) can check the remaining battery capacity (S2003).

[0259] If the remaining battery level is below a threshold value, the electronic device (100) may display a second image including the remaining battery level (S2004). The electronic device (100) may change the first image to the second image.

[0260] After changing to the second image, the electronic device (100) may generate a control command to change the first time associated with the function of the low power timer (150) in the power saving mode to the second time (S2005). The electronic device (100) may generate a first return signal (S2006). The first return signal may include a signal for changing to the power saving mode.

[0269] When the first time arrives (S2115-Y), the electronic device (100) can change to a normal mode (S2120). The electronic device (100) can obtain a power consumption rate (S2125). The electronic device (100) can obtain the remaining battery time (or remaining battery capacity) based on the power consumption rate (S2130).

[0270] The electronic device (100) can identify whether the remaining battery time is less than a threshold time (S2135).

[0271] If the remaining battery time is greater than or equal to the threshold time (S2135-N), the electronic device (100) may update the first image in normal mode. After updating the first image, the electronic device (100) may switch to power saving mode (S2110). The electronic device (100) may repeat steps S2110 to S2135.
