The present application provides a reference signal transmission method, a communication apparatus, and a communication system. The method comprises: a first communication apparatus sends first information, the first information being used for configuring first-type demodulation reference signal (DMRS) resources, the first-type DMRS resources supporting transmission of DMRSs by a plurality of port groups, the plurality of port groups comprising Nt ports, and at least two port groups among the plurality of port groups corresponding to different resource multiplexing modes; and the first communication apparatus sends second information to a first terminal, the second information being used for indicating N1 ports among the Nt ports. The first communication apparatus sends or receives a first DMRS on the first-type DMRS resources by means of the N1 ports, enabling the channel estimation performance to be improved.
