Abstract
Description
DESCRIPTION TITLE: Collaborative method for activating a vehicle function on a target vehicle and associated activation device [Technical field]
[0001] The present patent application relates to a collaborative method for activating a vehicle function on a motor vehicle, referred to as the target vehicle, and to a motor vehicle which includes a central unit duly programmed to implement the method according to the invention.
[0002] It concerns the technical field of detection and identification of a user approaching a motor vehicle and more particularly the field of device-free access systems known as "hands-free" for the automatic opening of vehicle doors. [Prior art]
[0003] In a motor vehicle, it is known to use vehicle function activation devices that can detect the presence of a user's hand or foot and thus allow the locking or unlocking of all or part of the vehicle's openings, such as the doors or trunk. For example, detecting the presence of a user's hand on or in front of a door handle, combined with the recognition of an identifier from a "hands-free" access device worn by that user, allows these openings to be locked and unlocked.
[0004] A hands-free access system for a motor vehicle allows an authorized user to lock and / or unlock the vehicle's doors without physically pressing buttons on a key. To do this, the vehicle identifies a portable device such as a badge, remote control (or even a key) carried by the user. If the badge, remote control, or key is located within a predetermined area around or inside the vehicle and is identified as belonging to it, the vehicle automatically locks / unlocks its doors according to the user's intention, without the user having to physically handle a key.
[0005] To do this, when the user approaches the vehicle, communication is established over a wireless link between the "hands-free" access equipment, for example an electronic badge or a smartphone, and the device vehicle function activation in order to authenticate said access equipment using its identifier.
[0006] To this end, the vehicle function activation device includes at least one radio frequency antenna enabling the reception of the identifier sent by the hands-free access equipment. The vehicle function activation device is connected to the vehicle's electronic control unit (ECU) to which it transmits the identifier.
[0007] According to current technology, hands-free access equipment is generally an electronic badge. The signal received by the vehicle function activation device's antenna, which includes the hands-free access equipment's identifier, is transmitted via RF (Radio Frequency) or LF (Low Frequency) waves. Precise location of the hands-free access device around the vehicle is achieved by measuring the strength of the LF signal received by the device (via the antennas and the electronic control unit) from the vehicle, more commonly known as RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) measurements. The measurement of the power of each signal received by the "hands-free" portable access equipment from each antenna of the plurality of LF antennas located on the vehicle is received and analyzed by an activation device, on board the vehicle, which thus determines by triangulation, the position of the "hands-free" portable access equipment in relation to said LF antennas, i.e. in relation to the vehicle.
[0008] Depending on the location of the portable "hands-free" access equipment identified by the vehicle in said location zones, certain actions specific to said location zones are automatically performed, for example unlocking / locking or pre-activation of the interior lighting (also called "welcome lighting" in English).
[0009] The prior art activation method includes a standby phase during which the activation device emits polling signals at a slow transmission frequency, known as slow polling (or slow sounding and / or long-range polling). This standby phase allows the presence of a badge to be determined around the vehicle when the vehicle is stationary and locked, while simultaneously reducing the vehicle's battery power consumption. If a badge is detected, it sends its identifier to the vehicle. If the badge is authenticated as authorized to unlock the vehicle, the vehicle then emits... scanning signals at a fast emission frequency and short range, in order to track the trajectory of the badge and to accurately determine its location around the vehicle.
[0010] However, when a vehicle is parked in a parking lot surrounded by other vehicles, the signals it emits are reflected or attenuated by the surrounding obstacles. This impacts the badge detection, which only occurs when the badge is in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle. The consequence of this delayed detection is that the vehicle doesn't have enough time to recognize the badge's presence. Meanwhile, the user has approached their vehicle and reached for the handle to unlock it. But since the badge hasn't yet been authenticated, the door doesn't unlock or open. This is known as the "wall effect." The user then believes there has been a malfunction in the access system.
[0011] The present invention aims to overcome this major drawback of the prior art process and proposes a collaborative method for activating a vehicle function of a target vehicle, making it possible to avoid the "wall effect" by detecting and authenticating the badge early around the vehicle. [Fig. 4]: Figure 4 is a schematic representation of an activation device according to the invention, [Fig. 5]: Figure 5 is a schematic representation of a portable "hands-free" access device according to the invention. [Fig. 6]: Figure 6 is a flowchart illustrating the different steps of the activation process according to the invention. [Description of the embodiments]
[0021] Figure 3 shows a motor vehicle V comprising a vehicle function activation device D according to the invention. The activation device D according to the invention makes it possible to: a. detect the presence of a user U in a predetermined zone Z0 around the target vehicle V, b. authenticate the portable "hands-free" access device SD worn by the user U, in order to activate a vehicle function.
[0022] Vehicle function means, for example, locking / unlocking the openings of the target vehicle V, such as the driver's door, or the rear trunk of the target vehicle V, but also turning on the heated seats, turning on the overhead light ("welcome light"), or pre-setting the seats or a radio station, and this even before the user U has entered the target vehicle V.
[0023] The activation device D includes at least two, or even four, transceivers, E1, E2, E3, E4 capable of communicating by radio frequency with a portable "hands-free" access device SD, for example a smartphone or an electronic key, carried by a user U.
[0024] The activation device D further includes a central control unit 10 electronically connected to all transmitters and receivers E1, E2, E3, E4.
[0025] This central control unit 10 manages the transmission and reception of radio frequency data between the target vehicle V and the "hands-free" portable access equipment SD via the transceivers E1, E2, E3, E4 in order to manage "hands-free" access to the target vehicle V. This is known from the prior art and will not be detailed further here.
[0026] As previously mentioned, when the target vehicle V, referred to as the "target vehicle," is parked in an enclosed parking lot surrounded by multiple vehicles (see Figures 1 and 2) V1, V2, V3, V4, V5, referred to as "peripheral vehicles," the presence of walls M nearby and the metal frames of the peripheral vehicles V1, ..., V5 generate numerous reflections of the low-frequency signal emitted by the target vehicle V to detect the presence of the SD "hands-free" portable access device, and also disrupts the authentication of said device. The consequence is the "wall effect" experienced by the user when attempting to operate the door handle of their target vehicle V because their SD "hands-free" portable access device has not been detected or authenticated beforehand or in time.
[0027] To avoid this drawback, the invention proposes a collaborative activation method and an associated activation device D enabling the presence of the SD "hands-free" portable access equipment to be anticipated in a highly reflective environment.
[0028] To this end, the invention proposes a vehicle function activation device D, intended to be installed in the target vehicle V and communicating by radio frequency with the portable "hands-free" access equipment SD, said activation device D comprising: a. Means for detecting when the target vehicle V is locked (M1), b. Means for switching the SD hands-free access device to standby mode (M2) and detecting when it moves away from the target vehicle V, c. Means for receiving a wake-up mode request (M3) from the SD hands-free access device, d. Means for switching the SD hands-free access device to wake-up mode (M4) upon receipt of the request, e. Means for detecting the SD hands-free access device (M5) in the predetermined zone Z0, f. Means for activating the vehicle function (M6) if the SD hands-free access device is detected in the predetermined zone Z0.
[0029] The locking detection means M1, the means for switching to standby mode M2, the means for receiving a request to switch to wake-up mode M3, the means for switching to wake-up mode M4, the means for detecting M5 the portable "hands-free" access equipment SD in the predetermined area Z0 and the means for activating the vehicle function M6 are preferably in the form of software located preferably in a microprocessor or hardware and are included in the central control unit 10 (see figure 4).
[0030] The central control unit 10 also includes a processor 100 and a memory 101 (see figure 4) in which instructions are stored to configure the processor to execute certain particular processing, in particular to implement the steps of the collaborative activation process, according to the embodiment as described below.
[0031] The M1 locking detection means of the target vehicle V allow detection that all openings of the target vehicle V are locked, this is known to a person skilled in the art and will not be detailed further here.
[0032] The means for switching the target vehicle's hands-free access device SD to standby mode (M2) and for detecting its movement away from the target vehicle (V) consist of means for emitting low-frequency radio frequency signals, for example, 125 kHz. These radio frequency signals are received by the hands-free access device. The "free" SD, in turn, emits a radio frequency signal back to the target vehicle V. Once received, this signal allows the central control unit 10 of the target vehicle V to locate the equipment outside the target vehicle V and track its trajectory. This is known to those skilled in the art and will not be detailed further here.
[0033] The means for receiving a request to switch to wake-up mode M3 from the portable "hands-free" access equipment SD consist of means for receiving radio frequency signals containing data or instructions requesting the central control unit 10 of the target vehicle V to switch to wake-up mode.
[0034] The wake-up mode switching means M4 are capable of changing the scanning frequency and / or power of the activation device from a standby mode (i.e., a low frequency and / or low-power, energy-efficient transmission mode) to a wake-up mode with a higher scanning frequency and / or higher transmission power. By increasing the scanning frequency or transmission power, presence detection around the target vehicle V of the SD hands-free portable access device is performed more quickly and accurately. In an improvement of the invention, the wake-up mode switching means M4 are capable of emitting scanning signals of a higher frequency and / or higher power for a second predetermined duration.
[0035] The detection methods M5 for the SD hands-free portable access device in the predetermined zone Z0 are known to those skilled in the art. By exchanging radio frequency signals and measuring the RSSI, or "received signal strength indication," from the SD hands-free portable access device, the activation device D is capable of locating the position of said device around the target vehicle V, and more specifically within the predetermined zone Z0.
[0036] The vehicle function activation means M6 trigger the activation of the vehicle function, for example unlocking the target vehicle V, if the SD "hands-free" portable access equipment is detected in the predetermined area Z0 around the target vehicle V.
[0037] According to the invention, the SD "hands-free" portable access equipment is also modified to perform the collaborative process of activating a vehicle function.
[0038] For this purpose, the SD "hands-free" portable access equipment includes (see figure 5): a. Means for receiving and storing identifiers M11 of peripheral vehicles surrounding the target vehicle V, b. Means for detecting the absence of reception M22 of stored identifiers of peripheral vehicles for a first duration less than a threshold duration, c. Means for detecting the reception M33 of at least one vehicle identifier after the expiry of the threshold duration, d. Means for comparing M44 of at least one identifier thus received with the identifiers previously stored and for determining a correlation factor, e. Means for transmitting M55 to the activation device D of the target vehicle V a request to switch to wake-up mode according to the correlation factor thus determined.
[0039] The central control unit 10 also includes a processor 100 and a memory 101 (see figure 4) in which instructions are stored to configure the processor 100 to execute certain particular processing, in particular to implement the steps of the collaborative activation process, according to the embodiment as described below.
[0040] The means for receiving and storing M11 peripheral vehicle identifiers consist of means for receiving any radio frequency signal including a vehicle identifier, emitted by any vehicle whose transmission range is compatible with the location of the SD hands-free portable access device. In an improvement of the invention, the means for receiving and storing M11 identifiers receive the vehicle identifiers for a predetermined duration.
[0041] The means for detecting the absence of receipt of M22 stored identifiers are capable of detecting the absence of receipt of stored vehicle identifiers for an initial period less than a threshold period.
[0042] The M33 means for detecting the receipt of at least one vehicle identifier are capable of detecting the receipt of a vehicle identifier after the expiry of the threshold time.
[0043] The M44 comparison means are capable of comparing received vehicle identifiers with previously stored identifiers, in order to determine if the received identifiers correspond to the previously recorded vehicle identifiers. The said M44 comparison means are suitable for calculating a correlation coefficient according to any mathematical method known to a person skilled in the art allowing a link to be established between two lists of identifiers.
[0044] The means of transmitting M55 to the activation device D of the target vehicle V of a request to switch to wake-up mode are capable of transmitting a signal requesting the activation device D of the target vehicle V to trigger the wake-up scanning mode according to the value of the correlation coefficient, more particularly if the correlation factor shows a high correlation between the two lists of identifiers, the newly received identifiers and the previously stored identifiers.
[0045] The collaborative process for activating a vehicle function, illustrated in Figure 6, will now be described.
[0046] The target vehicle V is surrounded by peripheral vehicles V1...V5 as illustrated in figures 1 and 2.
[0047] At the first stage E1, it is detected that the target vehicle V is locked and that the "hands-free" portable access device SD is located outside the target vehicle V.
[0048] In the second step E2, the activation device D of the target vehicle V detects the movement of the hands-free portable access device SD and triggers the standby and low-power mode, either by changing the transmission frequency and / or by changing the transmission intensity and / or power. In other words, the target vehicle V (i.e., the activation device D) transmits radio frequency signals to the hands-free portable access device SD at a low scanning frequency or low power level, and as long as the hands-free portable access device SD is outside the predetermined zone Z0, it responds in turn, allowing the target vehicle V to estimate the location of the hands-free portable access device SD. The standby scanning mode is maintained as long as the target vehicle V (i.e., the activation device D) is outside the predetermined zone Z0.The activation device D) detects that the "hands-free" portable access device SD is located in an area far from the target vehicle V. Indeed, when said "hands-free" portable access device SD is located in an area Z0 close to the target vehicle V, the target vehicle V (i.e. the activation device D) then activates a wake-up mode, with more frequent and more energy-intensive emissions in case the user U wishes to return to his vehicle and unlock it.
[0049] In the third stage E3, the SD "hands-free" portable access device receives the I Di identifiers from peripheral vehicles within its reception range. Specifically, peripheral vehicles V1...V5, which are parked with their engines off, emit Interrogation or scanning signals in standby mode. The SD "hands-free" portable access equipment is ingeniously configured according to the invention and contrary to the prior art, to receive these IDi identifiers and to store them. In an improvement of the collaborative method according to the invention, the reception and storage of the identifiers of the peripheral vehicles by the SD "hands-free" portable access equipment takes place during a predetermined duration At.
[0050] In the fourth step E4, it is verified that the SD hands-free access device no longer receives any previously stored identifiers for a predetermined period At1 less than a threshold Ats. This means that the SD hands-free access device is no longer within the range of the peripheral vehicle emission zones.
[0051] If no stored identifier is received during this first predetermined period At1, and if, after the expiration of the threshold period Ats, at least one identifier IDj is again received by the SD access equipment (see step E5), then in the sixth step E6, the at least one received identifier is compared to the previously stored identifiers IDi to determine if this identifier IDj belongs to a peripheral vehicle. A correlation factor c is then calculated between the at least one received identifier IDj and the previously stored identifiers IDi.
[0052] If the received identifier IDj is recognized as a previously received and stored identifier, and therefore as belonging to a peripheral vehicle... in other words if the correlation coefficient thus calculated c is greater than a threshold value es (step E7), then at the eighth step E8, the portable "hands-free" access equipment SD sends a request to the activation device D of the target vehicle V, and upon receipt of said request by the activation device D of the target vehicle V, the latter and the latter activates the wake-up mode.
[0053] It should be noted that the switch to standby mode is carried out according to the invention even if the portable "hands-free" access equipment SD is not detected in the predetermined zone Z0 near the target vehicle V, i.e. the zone which allows standby mode, which is contrary to the prior art.
[0054] In an improvement of the method according to the invention, the activation device D of the target vehicle V remains in wake-up mode for a second predetermined duration At2.
[0055] At the ninth step E9, if the activation device D of the target vehicle V detects the access equipment in the predetermined zone Z0 around the target vehicle V, authorizing the activation of one or more vehicle functions, then at the tenth step E10 the vehicle function is activated.
[0056] The invention is therefore ingenious because, thanks to vehicles parked near the target vehicle V, it allows the presence of the "hands-free" portable access device SD to be recognized even though it is not yet near the target vehicle. V and thus anticipate the activation of the vehicle function. This is achieved through a wake-up mode that is activated when the hands-free access device SD is not located within the predetermined zone Z0 around the target vehicle V, which enables the activation of a wake-up mode. The invention therefore prevents the user U from encountering a locked vehicle ("wall effect") as in the prior art.
[0057] The invention is all the more advantageous because it requires very few resources, which are primarily software-based.
