A SPORTS TRAINING SYSTEMTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present invention relates to a sports training system. In particular, the present invention relates to a customisable training system that allows users to improve and / or develop a plurality of skills relating to a sport.BACKGROUND

[0002] An important part of training to play a sport is performing drills or exercises that develop and improve a player’s skills through practice and repetition.

[0003] However, traditional team training sessions suffer from a number of drawbacks, including that they may be slow paced, and individual players may not get the chance to spend enough time working on the skills that are most in need of improvement. Further, in some situations, other team members may not be skilled enough to help a player improve their own skills. Finally, in team training sessions, a coach may not be able to spend enough time to identify the skills in which individual players need the most improvement.

[0004] Thus, there would be an advantage if it were possible to provide a sports training system that allowed a player not just to improve their skills in general, but to target specific skills most in need of improvement, and to work on developing those skilled independently without the requirement for a coach and / or other players to be present. Further, there would be an advantage if a player were able to ensure that the difficulty of the drills in which they participate are at an appropriate level for their skills and / or simulate match conditions.

[0006] Embodiments of the present invention provide a sports training system, which may at least partially address one or more of the problems or deficiencies mentioned above or which may provide the public with a useful or commercial choice.

[0007] With the foregoing in view, the present invention in one form, resides broadly in a sports training system comprising:A training area;Training equipment located in the training area, the training equipment configured to allow a user to perform one or more training exercises therewith using a ball, wherein the training equipment is configured to display instructions thereon regarding performance of the one or more training exercises, andOne or more sensors associated with the training equipment, the one or more sensors configured to collect information regarding the performance of the one or more training exercises,Wherein the instructions displayed on the training equipment are configured to change in response to the information collected by the one or more sensors.

[0008] The training area may be of any suitable size, shape or configuration. The dimensions and layout of the training area may vary depending on the sport for which the training area is designed. For instance, a training area for cricket may be relatively long and narrow, may be triangular or diamond-shaped for baseball or softball, may be oval or circular for Australian Rules Football, or may be square or rectangular for football (also known as soccer), rugby, rugby league, American football, hockey, basketball, netball, tennis, volleyball or the like. While the training area does not need to replicate the size and shape of the playing field of a sport, it is preferred that there are at least similarities between the size and shape of the playing field and the training area in order to make the experience of using the training system as realistic as possible.

[0009] Although it will be understood that the training area may be used to train players in a variety of sports, it is preferred that the sport is a ball sport. In a specific embodiment, the sports training system may be a football training system. It will be understood that, unless otherwise stated, the term “football” is intended to refer to the sport colloquially known as soccer in some parts of the world.

[0010] The training area may be located indoors or outdoors. Preferably, however, the training area is in the form of a dedicated area for the sports training system. In other words, it is envisaged that the training area will not be set up temporarily and then dismantled at the end of the session, day or some other period of time.

[0011] In some embodiments, the training area may provided with any suitable playing surface on which training takes place. For instance, the playing surface may be concrete, wood (include parquetry), natural turf, rubber, clay or the like. Alternatively, the playing surface may be provided with synthetic grass. In other embodiments, the playing surface may be fabricated from a synthetic material, such as polyurethane, vinyl, acrylic or the like. In some embodiments,the playing surface may include a sprung floor.

7. The sports training system according to claim 6 wherein the visual signal includes letters, words, numbers, or may be provided using lights.

8. The sports training system according to claim 7 wherein the provision of the visual signalusing lights involves the use of illuminated lights, displaying a sequence or pattern of lights, or displaying lights of a particular colour.

9. The sports training system according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the system further comprises a ball collection system configured to collect at least a portion of the balls used during the training exercises.

The sports training system according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the information collected by the one or more sensors is transmitted to a computing device, the computing device being configured to store and access data relating to performance of the training exercises on previous occasions by one or more users.

16. The sports training system according to claim 15 wherein the computing device is configured to adjust the difficulty of the training exercises based on the data.

The sports training system according to claim 16 wherein the computing device is associated with one or more machine learning modules, the one or more machine learning modules being configured to adjust the difficulty of the training exercises based on the data18. The sports training system according to claim 3 wherein the goal is in the form of one or more panel members, the one or more panel members being provided with one or moreapertures therein to allow a ball to pass therethrough.

19. The sports training system according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the instructions displayed on the training equipment are configured to change when the information collected by the one or more sensors indicates the completion of at least a portion of the training exercise.

20. The sports training system according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the sports training system further comprises an interface located within the interface, the interface being configured to allow a user to interact with the interface to commence the training exercise.
