Abstract

Example embodiments of the present disclosure relate to devices, methods, and computer storage medium for communication. A terminal device generates at least a first positioning model based on first training data with a first set of associated IDs for training data. The terminal device further obtains inference data with a second set of associated IDs for inference data, and determines a consistency between the inference data and the first training data based on the first set of associated IDs for training data and the second set of associated IDs for inference data. Accordingly, a model output may be determined based on at least part of the inference data using the first positioning model. As such, a consistency between the inference data and the first training data can be determined based on associated IDs, and thus a good performance of the positioning model can be ensured.

[0044] As used herein, the singular forms “a” , “an” and “the” are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. The term “includes” and its variants are to be read as open terms that mean “includes, but is not limited to. ” The term “based on” is to be read as “based at least in part on. ” The term “one embodiment” and “an embodiment” are to be read as “at least one embodiment. ” The term “another embodiment” is to be read as “at least one other embodiment. ” The terms “first, ” “second, ” and the like may refer to different or same objects. Other definitions, explicit and implicit, may be included below.

[0045] In some examples, values, procedures, or apparatus are referred to as “best, ” “lowest, ” “highest, ” “minimum, ” “maximum, ” or the like. It will be appreciated that such descriptions are intended to indicate that a selection among many used functional alternatives can be made, and such selections need not be better, smaller, higher, or otherwise preferable to other selections.

[0046] The terminal device or the network device may have AI or ML capability. It generally includes a model which has been trained from numerous collected data for a specific function, and can be used to predict some information.

[0047] As used herein, a model may be equivalent to at least one of the following: an AI / ML model, an ML model, an AI model, a data-driven, a data processing model, an algorithm, a functionality, a procedure, a process, an entity, a function, a feature, a feature group, a model identifier (ID) , an ID, a functionality ID, a configuration ID, a scenario ID, a site ID, an associated ID, or a dataset ID. As a result, the above terms may be used interchangeably. An “ID” may refer to an identifier, an identity, an identification, etc.

[0048] In some embodiments, the model may be represented by or associated with a channel, a resource, a resource set, a reference signal (RS) resource, an RS resource set, an RS port, a set of RS ports, an RS port ID, or a set of RS port IDs.

[0049] In some embodiments, the model may comprise a set of weights values that may be learned during training, e.g., for a specific architecture or configuration, where a set of weights values may also be called a parameter set.

[0050] In some embodiments, the model may be used to predict a target cell, or  measurements of a set of beams of a set of candidate cells in future based on at least historical measurements (e.g., layer 1 (L1) -reference signal received power (RSRP) , L1-signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) ) of a set of beams of a set of candidate cells.

[0051] In some embodiments, an input of the AI / ML model (i.e., AI input) may refer to the input of a model and indicate data inputted into the model, which may be equivalent to data.

[0052] In some embodiments, an output of AI / ML model (i.e., AI output) may refers to the output of a model and indicate result (s) outputted by the model, which is equivalent to label / data.

[0053] In some embodiments, “ground truth” , “ground truth label” , “ground truth label of data” , “input label” , “input data” and “data” can be used interchangeably.

[0054] In some embodiments, “target UE” , “UE deployed with AI / ML model” , and “UE with UE-side model” can be used interchangeably.

[0055] In some embodiments, a ground truth label of data (or ground-truth label) for monitoring or training the ML model (i.e., AI output) may refers to the authoritative, accepted data, or true answer or outcome for AI / ML model.

[0056] In some embodiments, the ground truth can be interpreted as actual / factual (i.e. actual / factual measured) data / values / results / collections / parameters, which can be used as reference, compared to prediction or inference.

[0057] In some embodiments, the positioning reference unit (PRU) is a normal terminal device with known location at some network device (e.g., a location server or gNB) .

[0058] In some embodiments, “TRP’s additional conditions” , “TRP side additional conditions” , “gNB’s additional conditions” , “gNB side additional conditions” , and “network side additional conditions” can be used interchangeably.

[0059] AI / ML techniques play a significant role in enhancing the accuracy and reliability of positioning, which is particularly useful in indoor environments where global position system (GPS) signals might be weak or unavailable.

[0060] An AI / ML model may be deployed at a terminal device (such as a UE) , a network device (such as one or more gNBs or TRPs) , or a core network entity (such as a location management function (LMF) ) . The AI / ML model may be used for positioning, e.g. determining a positon (or location) of a UE. Some cases (case 1, case 2b, and case 3b below) are discussed as direct AI / ML positioning, and some other cases (case 2a, and case 3a below)  are discussed as AI / ML assisted positioning:

[0061] · Case 1: UE-based positioning with UE-side model, direct AI / ML positioning.

[0062] · Case 2b: UE-assisted / LMF-based positioning with LMF-side model, direct AI / ML positioning.

[0063] · Case 3b: NG-RAN node assisted positioning with LMF-side model, direct AI / ML positioning.

[0064] · Case 2a: UE-assisted / LMF-based positioning with UE-side model, AI / ML assisted positioning.

[0065] · Case 3a: NG-RAN node assisted positioning with gNB-side model, AI / ML assisted positioning.

[0066] An enhancement for AI / ML based positioning accuracy has been agreed as a work item (WI) in release 19. An AI / ML model can be deployed at UE side, gNB side, or LMF side. A model input may be integrated information of timing, power and phase, such as channel impulse response (CIR) , power delay profile (PDP) , or delay of path (DP) . A model output may be a UE location (i.e., direct AI / ML positioning) or an intermediate measurement (i.e., AI / ML assisted positioning) .

[0067] For an AI / ML assisted positioning, the candidate output may include a light of sight (LOS) or non-line of sight (NLOS) indicator, or timing information like reference signal time difference (RSTD) , downlink reference signal time of arrival (DL-RTOA) , or UE Rx-Tx time difference for DL positioning, or uplink reference signal time of arrival (UL-RTOA) or gNB Rx-Tx time difference for UL positioning.

[0068] For a model targeting for positioning cases specified in 3GPP, it has demonstrated that the generalization of a model affects the positioning accuracy heavily. Therefore, it must consider the consistency between model training and model inference, i.e., the data for inference should be consistent with the data for training this model. The additional conditions at network side may be changed, for example, the additional conditions when generating inference data are different from that when generating training data. However, the additional conditions are unknown to the UE, and thus how to achieve the consistency between training and inference for UE side model should be studied.

[0069] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of communication. In the solution, a terminal device generates at least a first positioning model based on first training data with a first set of associated IDs for training data. Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0070] FIG. 1A illustrates an example communication network 100 in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. The communication network 100 may also be called as a network environment, a network system, a communication environment, a communication system, or the like, the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect. The communication network 100 includes a terminal device 110, multiple network devices 120-1 to 120-N, and an LMF 130. It should be appreciated that the LMF 130 may be a location server, which is located in the access network or in a core network.

[0071] In the present disclosure, there may be at least one positioning model deployed at the terminal device 110, for example, the terminal device 110 may also be referred to as a target terminal device or a target UE or a target device.

[0072] The multiple network devices 120-1 to 120-N (N is a positive integer, e.g. N≥3) may be separately or collectively be referred to as a network device 120, which may be a gNB or a TRP. For example, N may equal to 18 or another integer.

[0073] In some examples, one of the network devices 120-1 to 120-N may be a serving network device (e.g., a serving gNB) of the terminal device 110, which can control and manage other network devices 120 (e.g., one or more TRPs) . In some other examples, there may be an independent serving gNB of the terminal device 110 which is different from any of the multiple TRPs.

[0074] In the communication network 100, the network device 120 can communicate / transmit data and control information to the terminal device 110, and the terminal device 110 can also communicate / transmit data and control information to the network device 120. A link from the network device 120 to the terminal device 110 is referred to as a DL, while a link from the terminal device 110 to the network device 120 is referred to as a UL. DL may comprise one or more logical channels, including but not  limited to a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) and a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) . UL may comprise one or more logical channels, including but not limited to a Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) and a Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) . As used herein, the term “channel” may refer to a carrier or a part of a carrier consisting of a contiguous set of resource blocks (RBs) on which a channel access procedure is performed in shared spectrum.

[0075] In the communication network 100, the terminal device 110 can communicate with the LMF 130 according to any proper communication protocol, such as an LTE positioning protocol (LPP) . In the communication network 100, the network device 120 can communicate with the LMF 130 according to any proper communication protocol, such as an NR positioning protocol A (NRPPa) . It is to be understood that other protocol may also be applied and will not be listed herein.

[0076] Embodiments of the present disclosure can be applied to any suitable scenarios. For example, embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented at reduced capability NR devices. Alternatively, embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented in one of the followings: NR multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) , NR sidelink enhancements, NR systems with frequency above 52.6GHz, an extending NR operation up to 71GHz, narrow band-Internet of Thing (NB-IOT)  / enhanced Machine Type Communication (eMTC) over non-terrestrial networks (NTN) , NTN, UE power saving enhancements, NR coverage enhancement, NB-IoT and LTE-MTC, Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) , NR Multicast and Broadcast Services, or enhancements on Multi-Radio Dual-Connectivity.

[0077] It is to be understood that the numbers of devices (i.e., the terminal devices 110 and the network device 120) and their connection relationships and types shown in FIG. 1A are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. The communication network 100 may include any suitable numbers of devices adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure. The communication network 100 may include one or more entities which are not shown in FIG. 1A. For example, the communication network 100 may further include a PRU 140 at a known location, which can perform positioning measurements and report these measurements to a location server such as the LMF 130. In some implementations, the PRU 140 can communicate with the LMF 130 in a manner similar as that of the terminal device 110 and the LMF 130, e.g., according to any proper communication protocol, such as LPP. It is to be noted that the PRU may be with a different  name, such as a positioning-assisted-UE, and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.

[0078] It is to be understood that although the terminal device 110 and the PRU 140 is illustrated as a mobile phone in FIG. 1A, the type of the terminal device 110 or the PRU 140 can be another type and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.

[0079] For AI / ML-assisted positioning, a “single-TRP construction” and a “multi-TRP construction” are being discussed. Single-TRP construction: the input of the ML model is the channel measurement between the target UE and a single TRP, and the output of the ML model is for the same pair of UE and TRP, which is shown in FIG. 1D and FIG. 1E. Multi-TRP construction: the input of the ML model contains N sets of channel measurements between the target UE and N (N>1) TRPs, and the output of the ML model contains is the UE location or N sets of values, one for each of the N TRPs, which is shown in FIG. 1B and FIG. 1C.

[0080] In some cases, three constructions may be evaluated for the AI / ML assisted positioning: Single-TRP, same model for N TRPs; Single-TRP, N models for N TRPs; and Multi-TRP (i.e., one model for N TRPs) .

[0081] In some cases, there may be N TRPs (TRP 0, TRP 1, …, TRP (N-1) ) used for AI / ML based positioning, and direct AI / ML positioning (FIG. 1B) and AI / ML assisted positioning (FIGS. 1C-1E) may be evaluated. FIG. 1B illustrates an example schematic of direct AI / ML positioning with an output is the UE location. FIG. 1C illustrates an example schematic of AI / ML assisted positioning with multi-TRP construction for model input, FIG. 1D illustrates an example schematic of AI / ML assisted positioning with single-TRP construction for model input and one same model for N TRPs, and FIG. 1E illustrates an example schematic of AI / ML assisted positioning with single-TRP construction and N different models for N TRPs.

[0082] As shown in FIGS. 1C-1E, the AI / ML assisted positioning can be applied using input data (such as CIR, PDP, or DP) associated with one single TRP or multiple TRPs. For the former scenario, N models with different parameters or a single model may be deployed to estimate time information (e.g., time of arrival (TOA) ) for N TRPs, which may be regarded as a distributed model on each TRP. In the latter scenario, a single comprehensive model (i.e. a centralized model) utilizes the data from multiple TRPs as the input and produces the multiple TOAs corresponding to the multiple TRPs.

[0083] For an AI / ML-enabled feature, additional conditions refer to any aspects that are  assumed for the training of the model but are not a part of UE capability for the AI / ML-enabled feature. It does not imply that additional conditions are necessarily specified. Additional conditions can be divided into two categories: NW-side additional conditions and UE-side additional conditions.

[0084] For inference for UE-side models, to ensure consistency between training and inference regarding NW-side additional conditions, the following options can be taken as potential approaches:

[0085] - Model identification to achieve alignment on the NW-side additional condition between NW-side and UE-side;

[0086] - Model training at NW and transfer to UE, where the model has been trained under the additional condition;

[0087] - Information and / or indication on NW-side additional conditions is provided to UE;

[0088] - Consistency assisted by monitoring (by UE and / or NW, the performance of UE-side candidate models / functionalities to select a model / functionality) ;

[0089] - Other approaches are not precluded.

[0090] For UE-side model, any change in NW-side additional conditions may be a source of inconsistency for the model. Therefore, aligning the NW-side additional conditions among training and inference is important to ensure the consistency for UE side model. However, the NW-side additional conditions may be regarded as proprietary information of the NW vendor, which is not shared with the UE or other entities.

[0091] Associated ID can be designated to implicitly indicate whether the NW-side additional conditions are varying between training data and inference data. Regarding the associated ID for Rel-19, the UE assumes that NW-side additional conditions with the same associated ID are consistent at least within a cell. However, details about the consistency based on the associated ID should be further studied.

[0092] In the present disclosure, “AI / ML model” is a data driven algorithm that applies AI / ML techniques to generate a set of outputs based on a set of inputs; “data collection” is a process of collecting data by the network nodes, management entity, or UE for the purpose of AI / ML model training, data analytics and inference; “model training” is a process to train an AI / ML Model by learning the input / output relationship in a data driven manner and obtain the trained AI / ML Model for inference; “model inference” is a process of using a trained  AI / ML model to produce a set of outputs based on a set of inputs; and “UE side model” means an AI / ML model whose inference is performed entirely at the UE.

[0093] In the present disclosure, an entity for transmitting a PRS may be interchangeably used with one of: a TRP, a gNB, a network device, a PRS, a reference TRP, a reference PRS, a reference entity, etc., and the present disclosure does not limit for this aspect.

[0094] In the present disclosure, a term “associated ID” is used. An associated ID may be related with or correspond to one or a set of additional conditions at a network device (such as a gNB or TRP) . Different associated IDs may correspond to different additional conditions at least for a specific TRP. For instance, antenna information may be one of the additional conditions.

[0095] Reference is further made to FIG. 2, which illustrates a signalling chart illustrating communication process 200 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The process 200 may involve a terminal device 110, a network device 120 (such as gNB / TRP) , and an LMF 130 with reference to FIG. 1A. The process 200 may also involve a PRU or a non-PRU UE 290. It would be appreciated that the process 200 may be applied to other communication scenarios, which will not be described in detail.

[0096] The terminal device 110 is deployed with at least one positioning model, for example, the positioning model may be trained using training data. In some examples, the positioning model is deployed at UE side, which may be applied for above-mentioned Case 1: UE-based positioning with UE-side model, direct AI / ML positioning; or Case 2a: UE-assisted / LMF-based positioning with UE-side model, AI / ML assisted positioning.

[0097] In the process 200, the terminal device 110 generates at least one positioning model using training data at 210. The training data may be collected by the terminal device 110 or may be provided from another device (such as LMF 130, PRU 140, or a non-PRU UE) to the terminal device 110. For example, as illustrated, the PRU or non-PRU UE 290 may be a training data collection device.

[0098] For ease of description, the at least one positioning model includes a first positioning model, which is trained by using first training data. The first training data may be collected associated with a first set of network devices, and each network device in the first set of network device has a corresponding associated ID for training data.

[0099] As illustrated in FIG. 2, in alternative 1, the LMF 130 transmits, and the terminal device 110 receives, data collection related configuration and associated ID corresponding to  each network device at 201, in addition, the terminal device 110 may collect the first training data at 202 accordingly. There may be multiple different options for the LMF 130 to determine or obtain the data collection related configuration and associated ID for each network device, examples of which are illustrated in FIG. 3A, which illustrates options 1-3 for a process 310 of determining or obtaining the data collection related configuration and associated ID for each network device. In some implementations, an associated ID for training data may be determined by a corresponding network device, or may be assigned by the LMF 130.

[0100] In option 1, each network device 120 (e.g., each gNB / TRP in a first set of network devices) may transmit its data collection related configuration and a corresponding associated ID to the LMF 130 at 311. For example, each gNB / TRP may transmit the data collection related configuration and an associated ID to the LMF 130 via an NRPPa message. For example, each gNB / TRP may determine (or generate) its associated ID according to its additional condition (s) . The LMF 130 and the terminal device 110 are unaware of any gNB’s additional conditions explicitly or implicitly. In some examples, different network devices may determine (or generate) their associated IDs respectively or independently.

[0101] In some examples, the LMF 130 may transmit a configuration to the terminal device 110, and the configuration may be included in an LPP message. For example, the configuration may include the data collection related configuration and an associated ID for each network device.

[0102] In some examples, the terminal device 110 may collect the first training data corresponding to these data collection related configurations, and the first training data may be labeled with associated IDs, which may be called as a first set of associated IDs for training data.

[0103] It is understood that the associated ID for a network device is determined by the network device itself in option 1, and additional conditions of a network device are not provided to the LMF 130 or any other device.

[0104] In option 2, the LMF 130 may transmit a mapping relationship to each network device at 321, where the mapping relationship maps different associated IDs to different additional conditions. For example, the LMF 130 may transmit a mapping relationship to a gNB / TRP which may be involved in training data collection or in inference data collection.

[0105] In addition, each network device 120 (e.g., each gNB / TRP in a first set of network  devices) may transmit its data collection related configuration and a corresponding associated ID to the LMF 130 at 322. For example, an NRPPa message may be used for the transmission. For example, a network device 120 may determine the associated ID based on its additional conditions according to the mapping relationship.

[0106] In some examples, the LMF 130 may transmit a configuration to the terminal device 110, and the configuration may be included in an LPP message. For example, the configuration may include the data collection related configuration and an associated ID for each network device.

[0107] In some examples, the terminal device 110 may collect the first training data corresponding to these data collection related configurations, and the first training data may be labeled with associated IDs, which may be called as a first set of associated IDs for training data.

[0108] It is understood that the associated ID is determined by the gNB / TRP 120 according to LMF’s instruction (e.g., including the mapping relationship) in option 2, and additional conditions of a network device are known to the LMF 130 but unknown to the terminal device 110 or the PRU 140. The LMF 130 can provide a same or different mapping relationship for different gNBs / TRPs. For example, among all network devices, a same associated ID may refer to same additional conditions if the LMF provides a same mapping relationship for all the network devices. Alternatively, a same associated ID may refer to different additional conditions for different gNBs / TRPs if the LMF 130 provides a TRP-specific mapping relationship for each TRP.

[0109] In option 3, each network device 120 (e.g., each gNB / TRP in a first set of network devices) may transmit its data collection related configuration and its additional conditions to the LMF 130 at 331. For example, an NRPPa message may be used for the transmission. In addition, the LMF 130 may assign an associated ID for each network device at 332 based on the additional conditions of each network device.

[0110] In some examples, the LMF 130 may allocate an associated ID for each network device’s additional conditions. In some examples, the LMF 130 may transmit a configuration to the terminal device 110, and the configuration may be included in an LPP message. For example, the configuration may include the data collection related configuration and an associated ID for each network device.

[0111] In some examples, the terminal device 110 may collect the first training data  corresponding to these data collection related configurations, and the first training data may be labeled with associated IDs, which may be called as a first set of associated IDs for training data.

[0112] It is understood that the associated ID is determined or designated by the LMF 130 in option 3, and additional conditions of a network device are known to the LMF 130 but unknown to the terminal device 110 or the PRU 140. The LMF 130 can assign an associated ID corresponding to same or different additional condition for different gNBs / TRPs. For example, among all network devices, a same associated ID may refer to same additional conditions. Alternatively, a same associated ID may refer to different additional conditions for different gNBs / TRPs.

[0113] As illustrated in FIG. 2, in alternative 2, each network device (e.g., each gNB / TRP in a first set of network devices) may transmit its data collection related configuration and an associated ID to the terminal device 110 at 203, in addition, the terminal device 110 may collect the first training data at 204 accordingly.

[0114] In some examples, the LMF 130 may determine a mapping relationship and transmit the mapping relationship to each network device, which is similar with that described with reference to 321 in option 2 of FIG. 3A. For example, a network device 120 may determine the associated ID based on its additional conditions according to the mapping relationship. For example, a network device 120 may transmit its data collection related configuration and an associated ID to the terminal device 110 via a radio resource control (RRC) message or a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) .

[0115] In some examples, the terminal device 110 may collect the first training data corresponding to these data collection related configurations, and the first training data may be labeled with associated IDs, which may be called as a first set of associated IDs for training data.

[0116] As illustrated in FIG. 2, in alternative 3, the terminal device 110 may receive the first training data and associated IDs for related network devices (e.g., the first set of network devices) from the PRU or non-PRU UE 290 at 205. FIG. 3B illustrates a process 350 of collecting the first training data by the PRU or non-PRU UE 290.

[0117] In some examples, the LMF 130 may transmit the data collection related configuration and an associated ID for each network device to the PRU or non-PRU UE 290 at 351. For example, the LMF 130 may determine or obtain the data collection related  configuration and an associated ID for each network device according to any of options 1-3 that discussed with reference to FIG. 3A.

[0118] In some examples, each network device (e.g., each gNB / TRP in a first set of network devices) may transmit its data collection related configuration and an associated ID to the PRU or non-PRU UE 290 at 352. For example, the associated ID may be determined or generated by the network device itself (similar as 311 in FIG. 3A) or may be determined based on a mapping relationship from the LMF 130 (similar as 322 in FIG. 3A) .

[0119] In the process 350, the PRU or non-PRU UE 290 may collect the first training data corresponding to these data collection related configurations at 353, and the first training data may be labeled with associated IDs, which may be called as a first set of associated IDs for training data.

[0120] In some examples, the PRU or non-PRU UE 290 may transmit the first training data and associated IDs to the terminal device 110.

[0121] Accordingly, the first training data may be generated or collected or obtained at the terminal device 110, and in addition, the terminal device 110 may generate the first positioning model based on the first training data. It should be noted that although alternatives 1-3 are illustrated as some examples of collecting or obtaining the first training data for generating the first positioning model, in some other examples, the first training model may be trained by another entity (such as the LMF 130) , and the entity may transmit the first training model and associated IDs of related network devices to the terminal device 110.

[0122] It should be noted that there may be multiple positioning models deployed at the terminal device 110, for examples, the multiple positioning models include a first positioning model (model 1) and a second positioning model (model 2) , and the above discussion about the first positioning model may also applied for the second positioning model.

[0123] Referring back to FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 obtains inference data at 220. In some implementations, the inference data may be collected associated with a second set of network devices, and each network device in the second of network device has a corresponding associated ID for inference data. For example, a second set of associated IDs for inference data may be determined. In some examples, each network device in the second set of network devices may transmit its associated ID before or associated with the transmit of PRS to the terminal device 110, and the terminal device 110 may record this ID  as associated ID for inference data and perform a measurement to determine a channel measurement of a corresponding PRS. For example, the inference data includes channel measurements of the second set of network devices (e.g., multiple TRPs) .

[0124] The terminal device 110 determines a consistency between the first training data and the inference data at 230, e.g., based on the first set of associated IDs for training data and the second set of associated IDs for inference data. In some implementations, if a criterion is met, the terminal device 110 may determine that the inference data is consistent with the first training data.

[0125] In some example embodiments, if there is a single positioning model (e.g., the first positioning model) deployed at the terminal device 110, the terminal device 110 may determine whether the first set of network devices for training data collection is the same as the second set of network devices for inference data collection. For instance, the criterion may include: the first set of network devices for training data collection is the same as the second set of network devices for inference data collection.

[0126] In some examples, if the second set of network devices is same as the first set of network devices, the terminal device 110 may determine that the inference data is consistent with the first training data. In some examples, the terminal device 110 may transmit, to the LMF 130, an indicator indicating that the inference data is consistent with the first training data. FIG. 4A illustrates an example 410 of the first set of TRPs and the second set of TRPs. As illustrated, the first set of network devices is the same as the second set of network devices, both include TRP3, TRP4, TRP6, and TRP8. In this case, the terminal device 110 may assume that the inference data is consistent with the first training data. In some examples, an indicator in an LPP message may be reported to the LMF 130, so that the LMF 130 may know the consistency.

[0127] In some examples, the terminal device 110 may further determine whether an associated ID for a network device is changed. For example, the terminal device 110 may determine, for each network device in the first / second set of network devices, whether an associated ID for training data is the same as an associated ID for inference data. For instance, the criterion may include: the first set of associated IDs for training data is the same as the second set of associated IDs for inference data.

[0128] In some examples, if both the first set of network devices and the second set of network devices comprise a first network device and a corresponding associated ID for  inference data for the first network device is absent, the terminal device 110 may determine that the corresponding associated ID for inference data for the first network device is same as a corresponding associated ID for training data for the first network device. With reference to FIG. 4A, if TRP3 has an associated ID x for training data, and the associated ID for generating the inference data for TRP3 is absent, the terminal device 110 may assume that the TRP3 has an associated ID x for inference data, that is, the associated ID for inference data is the same as the associated ID for training data.

[0129] In some examples, if both the first set of network devices and the second set of network devices comprise a second network device and a corresponding associated ID for inference data for the second network device is different from a corresponding associated ID for training data for the second network device, the terminal device 110 may determine that the inference data is inconsistent with the first training data. In some examples, the terminal device 110 may further transmit an identifier of the second network device to the LMF 130. For example, the identifier of the second network device may be included in an information element (IE) “dl-PRS-ID” . With reference to FIG. 4A, if TRP4 has an associated ID x for training data and has an associated ID y for inference data, the terminal device 110 may mark TRP4 and report an identifier of TRP4 to the LMF 130.

[0130] In some examples, if the second set of network devices is different from the first set of network devices, the terminal device 110 may determine that the inference data is inconsistent with the first training data. In some examples, the terminal device 110 may transmit, to the LMF 130, an indicator indicating that the inference data is inconsistent with the first training data. FIG. 4B illustrates an example 420 of the first set of TRPs and the second set of TRPs. As illustrated, the first set of network devices includes TRP3, TRP4, TRP6, and TRP8; while the second set of network devices includes TRP2, TRP4, TRP6, and TRP8. In this case, the terminal device 110 may assume that the inference data is inconsistent with the first training data. In some examples, an indicator in an LPP message may be reported to the LMF 130, so that the LMF 130 may know the inconsistency.

[0131] In some examples, the terminal device 110 may determine updated inference data (e.g., at least part of the inference data) based on the inference data, and the updated inference data is consistent with the first training data. For example, the terminal device 110 may remove a channel measurement of a first network device from the inference data, where the first network device is comprised in the second set of network devices but not comprised in the first set of network devices. With reference to FIG. 4B, a channel measurement of TRP2  may be removed from the inference data, since the TRP2 is not included in the first set of network devices for training data collection. For example, the terminal device 110 may remove a channel measurement of a second network device from the inference data, where the second network device is comprised in both the first and second sets of network devices, and a corresponding associated ID for inference data for the second network device is different from a corresponding associated ID for training data for the second network device. With reference to FIG. 4A, a channel measurement of TRP4 may be removed from the inference data, since the TRP4 has an associated ID x for training data and has a different associated ID y for inference data.

[0132] It should be noted that the above discussion for the consistency determination is provided with an assumption that the second set of network devices includes multiple TRPs, however, in some other examples, a single TRP for training data collection and for inference data collection may be applied. For example, the inference data may include a channel measurement from a single TRP, in this case, the terminal device 110 may determine whether an associated ID for inference data is the same as an associated ID for training data. If the associated ID for inference data is the same as the associated ID for training data, the terminal device 110 may assume that the inference data is consistent with the first training data. If the associated ID for inference data is absent, the terminal device 110 may assume that the associated ID for inference data is the same as the associated ID for training data, and thus the inference data is consistent with the first training data. If the associated ID for inference data is different from the associated ID for training data, the terminal device 110 may assume that the inference data is inconsistent with the first training data, optionally the terminal device 110 may further transmit a report to the LMF 130, where the report may include an identifier of the single TRP. For example, an IE “dl-PRS-ID” may be used.

[0133] In some example embodiments, there are a plurality of positioning models deployed at the terminal device 110, e.g., including a first positioning model and a second positioning model. The terminal device 110 may select one of the plurality of positioning models, for example, the first positioning model may be selected from the plurality of positioning models.

[0134] In some examples, if a number of common network devices between the first set of network devices and the second network devices is larger than a number of common network devices between the second set of network devices and any set of network devices associated with any positioning model in the plurality of positioning models other than the first positioning model, the terminal device 110 may select the first positioning model. For  example, a number of overlapped TRPs between the TRPs for training data collection and the TRPs for inference data collection may be determined. For instance, the criterion may include: a number of common network devices between the first set of network devices and the second network devices is larger than a number of common network devices between the second set of network devices and any set of network devices associated with any positioning model in the plurality of positioning models other than the first positioning model.

[0135] FIG. 4C illustrates an example 430 for selecting a positioning model. As illustrated, the training data collection for model 1 involves TRP1, TRP2, TRP3, and TRP4; the training data collection for model 2 involves TRP2, TRP3, TRP4, and TRP5; and the inference data collection involves TRP1, TRP2, TRP3, and TRP6. Since there are 3 common TRPs between {TRP1, TRP2, TRP3, TRP6} and {TRP1, TRP2, TRP3, TRP4} , and 2 common TRPs between {TRP1, TRP2, TRP3, TRP6} and {TRP2, TRP3, TRP4, TRP5} , thus model 1 will be selected as the positioning model to be used.

[0136] In some examples, if a number of common network devices with unchanged associated IDs between the first set of network devices and the second network devices is larger than a number of common network devices with unchanged associated IDs between the second set of network devices and any set of network devices associated with any positioning model in the plurality of positioning models other than the first positioning model, the terminal device 110 may select the first positioning model. For example, a number of overlapped TRPs with unchanged associated ID between the TRPs for training data collection and the TRPs for inference data collection may be determined. For instance, the criterion may include: a number of common network devices with unchanged associated IDs between the first set of network devices and the second network devices is larger than a number of common network devices with unchanged associated IDs between the second set of network devices and any other set of network devices associated with any other positioning model.

[0137] FIG. 4D illustrates an example 430 for selecting a positioning model. As illustrated, the training data collection for model 1 involves TRP1, TRP2, and TRP3, where TRP1 has an associated ID x for training data, TRP2 has an associated ID x for training data, and TRP3 has an associated ID x for training data. The training data collection for model 2 involves TRP2, TRP3, and TRP4, where TRP2 has an associated ID y for training data, TRP3 has an associated ID y for training data, and TRP4 has an associated ID x for training data. The inference data collection involves TRP1, TRP2, and TRP3, where TRP1 has an associated ID x for inference data, TRP2 has an associated ID y for inference data, and TRP3  has an associated ID y for inference data. Since there are 1 common TRP with an unchanged associated ID between {TRP1 with associated ID x, TRP2 with associated ID x, TRP3 with associated ID x} and {TRP1 with associated ID x, TRP2 with associated ID y, TRP3 with associated ID y} , and 2 common TRPs with unchanged associated IDs between {TRP2 with associated ID y, TRP3 with associated ID y, TRP4 with associated ID x} and {TRP1 with associated ID x, TRP2 with associated ID y, TRP3 with associated ID y} , thus model 2 will be selected as the positioning model to be used.

[0138] In some examples, the terminal device 110 or the LMF 130 may further trigger another process, such as a model performance monitoring, to determine whether the selected positioning model is applicable. For example, a process of model performance monitoring may be triggered for further check, so as to determine whether the selected model (e.g., the first positioning model) is applicative, for example, whether the model output is accuracy if label-based model performance monitoring is triggered, or is other metric if label-free model performance monitoring is triggered. In some examples, the LMF 130 may designate an updated second set of network devices that to be involved in inference data collection.

[0139] In some other examples, a single TRP for training data collection and for inference data collection may be applied. For example, the inference data may include a channel measurement from a single TRP. For example, there may be multiple models, and the terminal device 110 may select a positioning model with an associated ID for training data being the same as the associated ID for inference data.

[0140] In some example embodiments, the associated IDs may be designated by the LMF 130, e.g., referring to option 2 or option 3 in FIG. 3A. In this case, the LMF 130 is aware of the additional conditions of network devices.

[0141] In some examples, each network device 120 may transmit its additional conditions and associated ID to the LMF 130, e.g., via an NRPPa message. For example, the transmission of the additional conditions and associated ID may be performed periodically or may be event-triggered.

[0142] In some examples, each network device 120 may transmit information about an associated ID or additional conditions to the LMF 130 periodically. For example, the period may be indicated by the LMF 130 or may be determined by each network device 120. For example, the associated ID and additional conditions may be unchanged for a specific network device, in this case, the details of the associated ID or additional conditions may be not transmitted, for instance, a specific network device may transmit an indicator indicating that the additional conditions or associated ID of the specific network device are unchanged.

[0143] In some examples, each network device 120 may transmit the associated ID or additional conditions to the LMF 130 if the additional conditions (or the associated ID) are changed. Thus the overhead can be reduced.

[0144] In some embodiments, the LMF 130 may transmit an associated ID of each network device 120 to the terminal device 110. For example, a first message including a latest associated ID of each network device 120 may be provided to the terminal device 110. For example, the latest associated ID of each network device 120 may be used for assisting to determining a consistency between the inference data and the first training data. In some examples, the latest associated ID of each network device may be regarded as an associated ID for inference data.

[0145] In some examples, each network device 120 may transmit its latest associated ID to the terminal device 110, e.g., via an RRC message or a MAC CE. For example, the transmission of the associated ID may be performed periodically or may be event-triggered. In some examples, the latest associated ID of each network device may be regarded as an associated ID for inference data.

[0146] In some examples, each network device 120 may transmit information about its latest associated ID to the terminal device 110 periodically. For example, the period may be indicated by the LMF 130 or may be determined by each network device 120. For example, the associated ID may be unchanged for a specific network device, in this case, the details of the associated ID may be not transmitted, for instance, a specific network device may transmit an indicator indicating that the associated ID of the specific network device are  unchanged.

[0147] In some examples, each network device 120 may transmit the latest associated ID to the terminal device 110 if the associated ID are changed (accordingly the additional conditions are changed) . Thus the overhead can be reduced.

[0148] In some embodiments, the LMF 130 may transmit, to the terminal device 110, information indicating whether a channel measurement associated with a third network device for model inference is capable of being replaced by a further channel measurement associated with a different network device with same additional conditions.

[0149] In some examples, the terminal device 110 may determine a first set of associated IDs for training data corresponding to the first set of network devices, and a second set of associated IDs for inference data corresponding to the second set of network devices. In some examples, for each network device, the terminal device 110 may compare the associated ID for training data and the associated ID for inference data.

[0150] In some instances, the terminal device 110 may identify a network device that is involved in inference data collection but not involved in training data collection. In some examples, the terminal device 110 may determine that the second set of network devices comprises the third network device and the third network device is not comprised in the first set of network devices. In some instances, the terminal device 110 may identify a network device that is involved in both inference data collection and training data collection but with different associated IDs. In some examples, the terminal device 110 may determine that both the first and second sets of network devices comprise the third network device and a corresponding associated ID for inference data is different from a corresponding associated ID for training data. In addition, the terminal device 110 may determine whether the second / third network device in the second set of network devices can be replaced by another network device, e.g., based on information from the LMF 130.

[0151] FIG. 5A illustrates an example 510 of the first set of TRPs and the second set of TRPs. As illustrated, the second set of network devices includes TRP2 512, which is not included in the first set of network devices for training data collection.

[0152] In some examples, the information from the LMF 130 may indicate that TRP2 cannot be replaced by another network device, and the terminal device 110 may remove a channel measurement of TRP2 from the inference data to obtain updated inference data.

[0153] In some examples, the information from the LMF 130 may indicate that TRP2 can  be replaced by another network device with same additional conditions (i.e. same associated ID) , and the terminal device 110 may replace the channel measurement of TRP2 512 by a channel measurement of TRP3 511 if the associated IDs for TRP2 512 and for TRP3 511 are the same, so as to obtain updated inference data.

[0154] FIG. 5B illustrates an example 520 of the first set of TRPs and the second set of TRPs. As illustrated, both the first and second sets of network devices include TRP4, but TRP4 521 for training data collection has an associated ID x and TRP4 522 for inference data collection has an associated ID y.

[0155] In some examples, the information from the LMF 130 may indicate that TRP4 cannot be replaced by another network device, and the terminal device 110 may remove a channel measurement of TRP4 from the inference data to obtain updated inference data.

[0156] In some examples, the information from the LMF 130 may indicate that TRP4 can be replaced by another network device with same additional conditions (i.e. same associated ID) , and the terminal device 110 may replace the channel measurement of TRP4 522 by a channel measurement of TRP5 523 if the associated IDs for TRP5 523 and for TRP4 521 are the same, so as to obtain updated inference data.

[0157] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine a first number of a specific associated ID in the first set of associated IDs for training data and a second number of the specific associated ID in the second set of associated IDs for inference data. In some examples, if the first number equals to the second number, the terminal device 110 determines that the inference data is consistent with the first training data. For instance, the criterion includes: a first number of a specific associated ID in the first set of associated IDs for training data equals to a second number of the specific associated ID in the second set of associated IDs for inference data.

[0158] In some examples, if the first number does not equal to the second number, the terminal device 110 determines that the inference data is inconsistent with the first training data, and the terminal device 110 may determine at least part of the inference data to make a consistency between the at least part of the inference data and the first training data. For example, at least part of the inference data may include channel measurements from part of the second set of network devices.

[0159] FIG. 5C illustrates an example 530 of the first set of TRPs and the second set of TRPs. As illustrated, there are 6 TRPs involved in training data collection, including 2  TRPs with associated ID 1, 3 TRPs with associated ID 2, and 1 TRP with associated ID 3; and there are 6 TRPs involved in inference data collection, including 2 TRPs with associated ID 1, 3 TRPs with associated ID 2, and 1 TRP with associated ID 3.

[0160] Since the number of TRPs with a same associated ID 1 is the same for training data collection and for inference data collection, the number of TRPs with a same associated ID 2 is the same for training data collection and for inference data collection, and the number of TRPs with a same associated ID 3 is the same for training data collection and for inference data collection, the terminal device 110 may determine that the inference data is consistent with the first training data.

[0161] In some examples, if the number of TRPs with a same associated ID for training data collection is different from that for inference data collection, the terminal device 110 may determine updated inference data, where the updated inference data is associated with a number of TRPs with a specific associated ID for inference data collection being equal to the number of TRPs with a same associated ID for training data collection, e.g., if enough channel measurements are measured by the terminal device 110.

[0162] Referring back to FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 determines a model output at 240. In some implementations, if the inference data is consistent with the first training data, the inference data is input into the first positioning model to obtain the model output. In some implementations, if the inference data is inconsistent with the first training data, updated inference data which is consistent with the first training data may be input into the first positioning model to obtain the model output.

[0163] The terminal device 110 transmits, and the LMF 130 receives, output information at 250, where the output information includes the model output. In some examples, the output information may further include at least one identifier of network devices that involved in the model input. For example, identifiers of TRPs associated with the inference data or updated inference data may be provided to the LMF 130, e.g., via an IE “dl-PRS-ID” .

[0164] According to embodiments with reference to FIGS. 2-5C, an associated ID for training data and an associated ID for inference data may be used for determining whether additional conditions of a network device have been changed from the training data collection to the inference data collection. The terminal device may determine whether the inference data is consistent with training data by comparing an associated ID for training data and an associated ID for inference data. As such, a suitable positioning model can be selected, or  updated inference data may be determined for model inference, without sharing unnecessary proprieties and information related to the network vendors.

[0165] It is to be appreciated that the processes described above are only for illustration without any limitation. In some examples, one or more steps may be omitted or combined or modified. In some examples, one or more additional steps may be added. One or more steps in a process may be combined into another process. It is to be understood that some further embodiments may be obtained and are still in the protection scope of the present disclosure.

[0166] As mentioned above, for each network device for training data collection or for inference data collection, an associated ID may be provided or determined. In some embodiments, a joint ID may be determined based on multiple associated IDs (for training data or for inference data) of multiple network devices. In some example, the joint ID may include integrated associated IDs of all involved TRPs.

[0167] In some examples, a total number of TRPs may be n, and the joint ID may include n fields corresponding to n TRPs respectively. FIG. 6 illustrates an example 600 of the joint ID, which includes field 1 to filed n. A filed in the joint ID may be used for carrying an associated ID of a corresponding TRP.

[0168] For example, field 1 may carry an associated ID 1 which is determined based on additional condition (s) of TRP1, field 2 may carry an associated ID 2 which is determined based on additional condition (s) of TRP2, …, and field n may carry an associated ID n which is determined based on additional condition (s) of TRPn.

[0169] In some examples, the LMF 130 may transmit the joint ID to the terminal device 110. In some examples, the terminal device 110 may receive an associated ID from each network device and determine the joint ID accordingly.

[0170] In some examples, the terminal device 110 may determine a joint ID for training data (e.g., a first joint ID) and a joint ID for inference data (e.g., a second joint ID) . In some examples, the terminal device 110 may compare each filed of the joint ID for training data and the joint ID for inference data, to determine whether the inference data is consistent with the first training data.

[0171] In some examples, the above embodiments with reference to FIGS. 2-5C are also applied for the joint ID, where an identifier of TRP may be replaced by an index of the corresponding field.
