Abstract

[0013] According to a first aspect of the invention, a support for coils or semi-finished products made of metallic material, preferably steel or copper and its alloys, is provided. This support has a bearing surface for the coil or semi-finished product and a replaceable support that can be applied to and removed from the bearing surface and that at least partially covers the bearing surface. The movement of the replaceable support across and away from the bearing surface can be effected by means of a replaceable support transport device. The invention thus relates to a support that can, preferably automatically and without the need for manual intervention, apply replaceable supports to the bearing surface as required in order to protect the support and prevent contamination of the support itself and its bearing surface.Any flaking from a first coil or semi-finished product, such as scale flaking or the like, remains on the interchangeable support, which serves as an intermediate layer between the support surface and the coil or semi-finished product. Patent claims 1. Support (1 ) for coils (2) or semi-finished products made of metallic material, preferably steel or copper and its alloys, with a support surface (3) for the coil (2) or semi-finished product and an interchangeable support (4) that can be applied to and removed from the support surface (3) and that is designed to at least partially cover the support surface (3), wherein the movement of the interchangeable support (4) over the support surface (3) and away from it can be effected by means of an interchangeable support transport device (5).

Method according to claim 15, characterized in that the interchangeable support (4) and the interchangeable support transport device (5) are separated from each other in the rest position and the interchangeable support transport device (5) is moved, preferably pivoted, from the covering position into a waiting position or back into the rest position without the interchangeable support (4).

17. Method according to one of claims 15 or 16, characterized in that the pivoting in and out of the interchangeable support (4) is automated.
