[0004] BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION

[0005] Hairbrushes have long been an essential tool in maintaining hair health and appearance. Traditional hairbrushes typically consist of a handle, a head extending from the handle, and bristles mounted on the head. The bristles may be made from various materials such as plastic, metal, natural fibers, or any combination of the aforegoing. While these conventional hairbrushes have served their purpose adequately for many users, they often come with certain drawbacks that limit their effectiveness and user experience.

[0011] SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0012] According to the invention, there is provided a hair detangling system comprising: a first, finger-mountable sleeve having a proximal end and an opposite distal end, the proximal end defining a finger opening for receiving a first finger of a user into the first sleeve, the first sleeve including a plurality of bristle elements protruding outwardly; and a connecting arrangement configured to connect the first sleeve to a second, finger- mountable sleeve to interconnect the first and second sleeves directly to each other in a side-by-side relationship, wherein, when the first and second sleeves are connected and worn, hair is positionable between the first and second sleeves and can be combed by squeezing the first and second sleeves together and pulling along the hair to achieve a detangled and brushed state.

In this embodiment, the sleeves 12.1 , 12.2 are similar in shape and configuration; accordingly, features of the first sleeve 12.1 are described, it being understood that, unless stated otherwise, such features are equally applicable to the second sleeve 12.2. The sleeve 12.1 is frustoconical and defines a finger opening 16 at a proximal end 18, with an opposite distal end 20 that is open to promote air circulation and ease of cleaning. The sleeve 12.1 tapers from its proximal to distal end to facilitate insertion of a first finger of the user via the finger opening 16 to a comfortable depth. The finger opening 16 of the second sleeve 12.2 similarly receives a second finger of the same hand.

More specifically, the sleeves 12.13, 12.23 and bridge 30.3 include male and female mating formations to facilitate connection of the bridge 30.3 to the sleeves 12.13, 12.23. In the example embodiment shown, the male formations are provided at opposing ends of the bridge 30.3, and each comprises a ball formation 54, with the female formations provided adjacent the proximal ends 18 of the sleeves 12.13, 12.23 and each comprising an aperture 56 for receiving the ball formation 54 to securely retain same therein. It would be appreciated that the male and female formations could be designed to form an irreversible or reversible connection upon insertion, depending on the desired application. In addition, the male and female formations could be formed to receive a bonding agent to retain a secure connection, or a heat treatment for the formations to become materially comingled with each other. In addition, the bridge 30.3 includes a number of areas of areas of weakness 32.3, which are similar to the areas of weakness 32.1 defined above.

The user is able to achieve their most natural wrist posture throughout the combing motion, wherein the wrist is less likely to fatigue during movement of the system through long hair, unlike with conventional brushes that require users to physically grip firmly onto a handle and then rolling the brush as the brush is moved toward the end of their hair. Ergonomically this brush rolling motion involves a more awkward deflection in the wrist that, if done for long enough, will fatigue the wrist. Furthermore, since the system is not incorporated into a glove and does not enclose the entire hand, the user is able to utilize the fingers of his choosing, whether it is the thumb and forefinger, or any other finger combination.

[0089] The invention is not limited to the precise details as described herein and that many variations are possible without departing from the scope of the appended claims. For example, the first and second sleeves may be similar or different, i.e. the first or second sleeve may or may not include bristle elements 22, their bristle elements 22 may be configured differently, their size and / or shape may be different, or the like. Furthermore, the bristle elements 22 on either or both sleeves may extend circumferentially by at least 90°, at least 180°, at least 270°, less than 360°, or around the entire circumference, and may extend substantially the full length of a sleeve.

Claims

CLAIMS1 . A hair detangling system comprising: a first, finger-mountable sleeve having a proximal end and an opposite distal end, the proximal end defining a finger opening for receiving a first finger of a user into the first sleeve, the first sleeve including a plurality of bristle elements protruding outwardly; and a connecting arrangement configured to connect the first sleeve to a second, finger- mountable sleeve to interconnect the first and second sleeves directly to each other in a side-by-side relationship, wherein, when the first and second sleeves are connected and worn, hair is positionable between the first and second sleeves and can be combed by squeezing the first and second sleeves together and pulling along the hair to achieve a detangled and brushed state.

2. The system as claimed in claim 1 , comprising the second sleeve having a proximal end and an opposite distal end, and defining at its proximal end a finger opening for receiving a second finger of the user into the second sleeve.

3. The system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the connecting arrangement connects the first and second sleeves to each other at or adjacent to the respective proximal ends.

4. The system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second sleeves is frustoconical and tapers, at least partially, from its proximal end toward its distal end.

5. The system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second sleeves defines a first longitudinal side configured to engage a front side of the respective finger when worn, and an opposing second longitudinal side configured to engage a rear side of the user’s finger when worn.

6. The system as claimed in claim 5, wherein the connecting arrangement is provided on the respective first longitudinal sides of the first and second sleeves such that the sleeves are joined at said first longitudinal sides, wherein the sleeves are unjoined along at least a portion of their respective second longitudinal sides, thereby enabling the user to readily remove or interchange the sleeves between different fingers.

7. The system as claimed in claim 5, wherein a wall thickness of the first and / or second sleeve varies circumferentially such that a wall thickness of the first longitudinal side is greater than that of the second longitudinal side.

8. The system as claimed in claim 5, wherein the second longitudinal side includes at the proximal end a cut-out to facilitate expansion or deformation of the finger opening upon insertion of the user’s finger.

9. The system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the distal ends of the first and second sleeves are open.

10. The system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the first and second sleeves are formed of a resilient, self-supporting elastomeric material having a hardness sufficient to maintain a tubular form when not worn.

11. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein there are a plurality of bristle elements protruding outwardly from the second sleeve.

12. The system as claimed in claim 1 or 11 , wherein the bristle elements are integrally molded or mechanically incorporated with the first sleeve and when dependent on claim 11 , also with the second sleeve.

13. The system as claimed in claim 12, wherein, where the bristle elements are mechanically incorporated, the bristle elements are carried on one or more flexible pads abutting an outer surface of the first sleeve and, when dependent on claim 11 , of the second sleeve.

14. The system as claimed in claim 13, comprising a retaining formation configured to secure a periphery of the one or more flexible pads against the outer surface of the first sleeve and, when dependent on claim 11 , of the second sleeve.

15. The system as claimed in claim 14, comprising one or more annular locking caps that are adapted to press-fit onto the proximal end of the first sleeve and, when dependent on claim 11, of the second sleeve, to secure the one or more flexible pads in position.

16. The system as claimed in claim 1 or 11, wherein the bristle elements have varying layout patterns, lengths, and / or end profiles to achieve a desired performance characteristic.

17. The system as claimed in claim 1 or 11 , wherein the bristle elements extend circumferentially by at least 90 degrees around and substantially the full length of the first sleeve and, when dependent on claim 11 , extend circumferentially by at least 90 degrees around the second sleeve and substantially the full length also the second sleeve.

18. The system as claimed in claim 1 or 11 , wherein the bristle elements extend circumferentially by at least 180 degrees around and substantially the full length of the first sleeve and, when dependent on claim 11 , also the second sleeve.

19. The system as claimed in claim 1 or 11 , wherein the bristle elements extend circumferentially by at least 270 degrees around and substantially the full length of the first sleeve and, when dependent on claim 11 , also the second sleeve.

20. The system as claimed in claim 1 or 11 , wherein the bristle elements extend circumferentially around the entire circumference and substantially the full length of the first sleeve and, when dependent on claim 11 , also the second sleeve.

21. The system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the connecting arrangement is integrally formed with the first and second sleeves and extend between their respective proximal ends.

22. The system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the connecting arrangement is separate from the first and second sleeves and removably or permanently connectable to the first and second sleeves adjacent the respective proximal ends.

23. The system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the connecting arrangement acts as a hinge that permits the first and second sleeves to pivot relative to each other about the connecting arrangement, enabling coordinated yet flexible movement during use.

24. The system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the connecting arrangement includes one or more areas of weakness for facilitating folding of the connecting arrangement, said one or more areas of weakness being defined by a reduction in thickness or an increase in pliability.

25. The system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein any one or both of the first and second sleeves include a finger retainer for inhibiting unintentional withdrawal of the user’s finger.

26. The system as claimed in claim 25, wherein the finger retainer comprises a portion of a wall of the sleeve that is displaceable between an inoperative position in which the portion is flush with an adjacent wall and does not inhibit withdrawal, and an operative position in which the portion protrudes inwardly from the adjacent wall to catch the user’s finger to inhibit withdrawal.

27. The system as claimed in claim 25 or 26, wherein the finger retainer comprises an elongated arc-shaped member attached at opposing ends to the sleeve, such that, in its operative position, the user’s finger is receivable through the arc-shaped member which extends at least partially about and urges against the finger.

28. The system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein: the first sleeve comprises a planar body defining, at a first lateral edge, a first securing formation and, at an opposite second lateral edge, a second securing formation which is complementary to the first securing formation, said planar body being configured to be foldable wherein its said lateral edges move toward each other to secure the first and second securing formations together to form a sleeve; and the second sleeve comprises a planar body defining, at a first lateral edge, a first securing formation and, at an opposite second lateral edge, a second securing formation which is complementary to the first securing formation, said planar body being configured to be foldable wherein its said lateral edges move toward each other to secure the first and second securing formations together to form a sleeve.

29. The system as claimed in claim 28, wherein each of the first and second sleeves includes a plurality of laterally spaced areas of weakness extending at least partially between its proximal and distal ends to facilitate folding, said areas of weakness being defined by a reduction in thickness or an increase in pliability.

30. The system as claimed in claim 5, wherein at least part of an inner surface of the first longitudinal side of each sleeve is textured to facilitate improved contact grip between said inner surface and the user’s fingers.

31. The system as claimed in claim 5, wherein the first and second longitudinal sides of each sleeve are distinct, displaceable relative to each other, and fastenable to each other along one or both their opposing longitudinal edges.

32. The system as claimed in claim 31 , wherein at least one, alternatively both, opposing longitudinal edges of the first and second longitudinal sides define a fastening arrangement, wherein opposing fastening arrangements complementarily shaped and configured to fasten to each other upon engagement.

33. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein one of the first and second sleeves is configured to receive two or more fingers simultaneously.

34. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the system is not part of a glove.
