[0003] The present application relates to a packaging unit comprising a hygienic article.
[0004] Disposable hygienic articles, such as sanitary napkins and panty liners, can be individually packaged in a wrapper of thin plastic film material. Individual packages enable hygienic carrying of the disposable hygienic articles for example in a bag or pocket. The packaging may be used both as a means for protecting an unused article against contamination and as a means for disposal of a used article. It is desirable that used disposable hygienic articles can be disposed of discretely and hygienically, especially when the user may lack the possibility to discard the used article immediately after the used article has been replaced. The packaging may be usually folded in a two-fold and sealed along the edges to protect the article before use, that is, to keep it hygienic before use. The packaging may also function to protect an adhesive layer which may be necessary to affix the article to a garment. The adhesive layer may be applied on the garment side of the disposable hygienic article.

Even though there are prior art solutions for individual packages for disposable hygienic articles, there is still a need for a packaging that can be used both for packaging a new hygienic article and for hygienic keeping and discarding of the used hygienic article, and that can protect an adhesive layer of the hygiene article while addressing the waste management challenges.

[0008] It is an object of the present invention to provide a solution to the above- mentioned need.
[0009] This object, as well as other objects being apparent to a skilled person studying the present description, may be achieved by a packaging unit comprising an absorbent hygienic article, and a sheet of wrapping material comprising natural fibers. The sheet has two first longitudinal edges, two first transversal edges, an inner side and an outer side. The packaging unit also comprises a first layer of sealing material to seal the packaging unit. The first layer is applied on a first surface of the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material. The packaging unit further comprises a second layer of releasing material to releasably attach the absorbent hygienic article to the sheet of wrapping material. The second layer is arranged onto a second surface of the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material. The second surface is smaller than the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material, is arranged in a central portion of the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material. The first surface covers at least a portion of the four first edges of the sheet of wrapping material. In at least the portion of the four first edges, the first surface is free of the second layer. Whether or not the second layer and the first layer at least partially overlap is subject to a proviso. The proviso is based on whether or not the sheet of wrapping material has an uncoated portion. The proviso is one of the following. With the proviso the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material lacks the uncoated portion, the second layer at least partially overlaps the first layer. With the proviso the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material has the uncoated portion, the at least partial overlap is not required, the uncoated portion is located on at least two opposing edges of the sheet of wrapping material, and surrounded on both sides of the edges by the first layer, and the first layer is at least partially adjacent to the second layer in non-overlapping portions.

1. CLAIMS1 . A packaging unit comprising: an absorbent hygienic article, a sheet of wrapping material comprising natural fibers, the sheet having two first longitudinal edges, two first transversal edges, an inner side and an outer side, a first layer of sealing material to seal the packaging unit, the first layer being applied on a first surface of the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material, a second layer of releasing material to releasably attach the absorbent hygienic article to the sheet of wrapping material, the second layer being arranged onto a second surface of the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material, wherein the second surface is smaller than the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material, is arranged in a central portion of the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material, and wherein the first surface covers at least a portion of the four first edges of the sheet of wrapping material, wherein in at least the portion of the four first edges, the first surface is free of the second layer, wherein whether or not the second layer and the first layer at least partially overlap is subject to a proviso, the proviso being based on whether or not the sheet of wrapping material has an uncoated portion, wherein the proviso is one of: with the proviso the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material lacks the uncoated portion, the second layer at least partially overlaps the first layer, and with the proviso the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material has the uncoated portion, the at least partial overlap is not required, the uncoated portion is located on at least two opposing edges of the sheet of wrapping material, and surrounded on both sides of the edges by the first layer, and wherein the first layer is at least partially adjacent to the second layer in nonoverlapping portions.
2. The packaging unit according to claim 1 , wherein the uncoated portion is uncoated by the sealing material and the releasing material.
3. The packaging unit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the second surface has an elongated shape, and has two second longitudinal edges, and two second transversal edges.
4. The packaging unit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the sheet of wrapping material lacks the uncoated portion, wherein the first layer covers the whole inner side of the sheet of wrapping material, and wherein the second layer at least partially overlaps the first layer.
5. The packaging unit according to claim 4, wherein the second layer fully overlaps the first layer.
6. The packaging unit according to any one of claims 1-3, wherein the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material has the uncoated portion, and wherein the second layer at least partially overlaps the first layer.
7. The packaging unit according to claims 2, 3 and 6, wherein a first portion free of the first layer is arranged in a first transversal middle section of the sheet of wrapping material from one first longitudinal edge to the first longitudinal edge on the opposing side, wherein the first surface is divided in two first sections, each first section extending from a respective first transversal edge to the first portion free of the first layer, wherein the second layer at least partially overlaps the first layer with the two second transversal edges and at least a portion of the two second longitudinal edges, and wherein the uncoated portion is arranged to be adjacent to a middle portion of the two second longitudinal edges, on both sides of the second surface.
8. The packaging unit according to claims 2, 3 and 6, wherein a second portion free of the first layer is arranged in a first longitudinal middle section of the sheet of wrapping material from one first transversal edge to the first transversal edge on the opposing side, wherein the first surface is divided in two second sections, each second section extending from a respective first longitudinal edge to the second portion free of the first layer, wherein the second layer at least partially overlaps the first layer with the two second longitudinal edges and at least a portion of the two second transversal edges, and wherein the14 uncoated portion is arranged to be adjacent to a middle portion of the two second transversal edges, on both sides of the second surface.
9. The packaging unit according to any one of claims 1-3, wherein the inner side of the sheet of wrapping material has the uncoated portion, and wherein the second layer does not overlap with the first layer.
10. The packaging unit according to any one of claims 2, 3 and 9, wherein a third portion free of the first layer is arranged in two third sections: a) a second transversal middle section of the sheet of wrapping material, from one first longitudinal edge to the first longitudinal edge on the opposing side, and b) a second longitudinal middle section of the sheet of wrapping material, from one first transversal edge to the first transversal edge on the opposing side, wherein the uncoated portion is arranged to be adjacent to the full extent of the two second transversal edges, on both sides of the second surface and adjacent to a middle portion of the two second longitudinal edges, on both sides of the second surface, and wherein the first surface is divided in four fourth sections, each of the fourth sections being arranged on a corner of the sheet of wrapping material, each of the fourth sections extending from a respective first longitudinal edge to a nearest edge of the second longitudinal middle section and the nearest second longitudinal edge, and from a respective first transversal edge to a nearest edge of the second transversal middle section.11 . The packaging unit according to claims 2, 3 and 9, wherein a fourth portion free of the first layer is arranged in a third longitudinal middle section of the sheet of wrapping material, from one first transversal edge to the first transversal edge on the opposing side, wherein the first surface is divided in two sixth sections, each sixth section extending from a respective first longitudinal edge to the fourth portion free of the first layer and a nearest second longitudinal edge of the second surface, wherein the uncoated portion is arranged to be adjacent to the full extent of the two second transversal edges, on both sides of the second surface.
12. The packaging unit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the packaging unit has two transversal folding axes, the transversal folding axes dividing the packaging unit into a first region, a second region and a third15 region, and the packaging unit is folded about said folding axes with the first region, the second region and the third region in an overlapping configuration.
13. The packaging unit according to claim 12, wherein overlapping regions of the packaging unit are joined by the sealing material along the first longitudinal edges of the sheet of wrapping material.
14. The packaging unit according to claim 13, wherein the sealing material is a heat sealable material, and wherein the overlapping regions of the packaging are joined by the sealing material via heat sealing.
15. The packaging unit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the first layer is applied with a pattern comprising elements of sealing material and uncoated parts.
16. The packaging unit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the releasing material comprises silicone.
17. The packaging unit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the absorbent hygienic article has a top side and a bottom side, wherein the bottom side has an adhesive coating to releasably attach the absorbent hygienic article to a garment of a user, and wherein the adhesive coating is arranged to be releasably attached to the releasing material to releasably attach the absorbent hygienic article to the sheet of wrapping material.
