Abstract

[0003] The present disclosure relates to a refill for refilling a refillable dispensing. The present disclosure further relates to a refillable dispensing systems and methods.

[0004] BACKGROUND

[0005] There are many applicators for personal care products such as lip balm, deodorants, salves, and so forth. Specifically, antiperspirant / deodorant sticks are used to reduce underarm wetness and control body odour. These products are typically made by blending active ingredients with waxes, oils, and silicones and moulding the mixture into stick form.

[0006] The sticks are usually packaged in dispensers including a hollow tube with a piston or elevator platform inside that moves up and down to dispense the product. In some packages, this platform can be pushed up by hand, in others it is elevated by turning a screw that causes it to travel up along a central threaded post.

[0007] However, such dispensers are usually limited to a single use as after the product has been consumed, the end user is left with no option other than disposing the empty dispenser and purchasing a new one. The single-use nature of these dispensers leads to excessive expenses for the consumers, as well as too important wastes, resulting in an unecological option.

[0008] There exists on the market some refillable dispensers for receiving a refill. However, the materials that are widely used in the manufacturing of the components forming part of a refill may be difficult to dispose and recycle. Particularly, the materials of the elements that are configured to prevent air from entering the refill are, typically, less biodegradable, making them more challenging for the environment. One example of a material used in this kind of components is nitrile.

[0009] Examples of the present disclosure seek to at least partially reduce one or more of the aforementioned problems.

[0010] SUMMARY

[0011] According to a first aspect, a refill for refilling a refillable dispensing system is provided. The refill comprises a refill body having one sidewall extending between a top and a P12832PC01 bottom of the refill body, a space being defined in an interior of the refill body. The refill further comprises an elevator platform disposed in the space formed in the interior of the refill body, a solid composition configured to be attached to the elevator platform and a turnable base configured to be operationally coupled to the elevator platform such that the elevator platform is displaced along the space formed in the interior of the refill body. Additionally, the turnable base comprises one or more first turnable base connectors and the refill body comprises one or more body connectors that are adapted to mate with the first turnable base connectors such that, in use, the attachment between the fist turnable base connectors and the body connectors defines an airtight sealing. Additionally, the turnable base is adapted to be releasably coupled with respect to a rotary handle.

[0012] According to this first aspect, a refill that is configured to store and dispense a solid composition is provided. To this end, the refill is adapted to alternately dispense the corresponding composition by displacing and extending such composition from the refill body, and to store the solid composition by displacing and retracting such solid composition into the refill body. Specifically, rotation of the turnable base causes the elevator platform to be displaced along the space formed in the interior of the refill body, extending and I or retracting the solid composition.

[0013] Moreover, the attachment between the body connectors and the first turnable base connectors defines an airtight sealing which prevents, e.g. before opening the refill and during transportation and storage, air from entering the refill. Refill assemblies, for example those made including solid compositions made with natural ingredients, require protection from air exposure to maintain their effectiveness. Ingredients like, for example, fruit butter and seed butter can degrade when exposed to air, which can affect the composition’s texture and scent. A proper airtight sealing of the refill arrangement helps to prevent this degradation, ensuring that the corresponding solid composition remains potent and effective. Additionally, the airtight refill arrangement is vital for keeping ingredients from oxidizing, which can lead to a solid composition that no longer smells as fresh as intended.

[0034] Along the present description and claims, the term “deodorant refHf’ refers to a replaceable deodorant product unit configured for use in a deodorant refillable dispensing system. The “deodorant refHf’ may be supplied as a consumable insert and may not be intended for direct handling by the user during normal application. The “deodorant refilf’ is distinct from a deodorant stick e.g., disposable which is intended to be discarded as a complete unit once the deodorant material is depleted.

A refill for refilling a refillable dispensing system, comprising a refill body having one sidewall extending between a top and a bottom of the refill body, a space being defined in an interior of the refill body, an elevator platform disposed in the space formed in the interior of the refill body, a solid composition configured to be attached to the elevator platform, a turnable base configured to be operationally coupled to the elevator platform such that the elevator platform is displaced along the space formed in the interior of the refill body, wherein the turnable base comprises one or more first turnable base connectors and the refill body comprises one or more body connectors that are adapted to mate with the first turnable base connectors such that, in use, the attachment between the first turnable base connectors and the body connectors defines an airtight sealing, wherein the turnable base is adapted to be releasably coupled with respect to a rotary handle.

2. A refill according to claim 1 , wherein the refillable dispensing system is a deodorant refillable dispensing system, wherein the solid composition is a solid deodorant composition, wherein the refill is a replaceable deodorant refill.

3. A refill according to any of claims 1 - 2, wherein the refill body comprises a sidewall extending longitudinally from a first end to a second end, wherein the first end corresponds to the top of the refill body and the second end corresponds to the bottom of the refill body.

4. A refill according to claim 3, wherein the sidewall is an oval-shaped sidewall, an oblong-shaped sidewall or a cylindrical sidewall.

5. A refill according to any of claims 3 - 4, wherein the refill body comprises a bottom surface including a bottom surface through-hole.

6. A refill according to any of claims 3 - 5, wherein the refill body comprises an elongated channel along the longitudinal length of the refill body extending from the first end of the sidewall to the second end of the sidewall such that a through-hole is formed in the refill body.

7. A refill according to any of claims 3 - 6, wherein the body connectors are located at orP12832PC01 near the second end of the sidewall.

8. A refill according to any of claims 1 - 7, wherein the body connectors comprise a horizontal male projection and the first turnable base connectors comprise a female coupling member configured to mate with the horizontal male projection.

9. A refill according to claim 8, wherein the female coupling member is configured to snap fit around the horizontal male projection.

10. A refill according to any of claims 1 - 9, wherein the first turnable base connectors comprise a pair of parallel and spaced apart flanges which extend substantially perpendicularly to a vertical plane defined by a base forming part of the turnable base connectors.11 . A refill according to claim 10, wherein the turnable base connectors further comprise a recess in between the flanges.

12. A refill according to claim 11 , wherein the recess forms a female coupling member and is adapted to receive and mate with the body connectors.

13. A refill according to any of claims 1 - 12, wherein the turnable base comprises a base element, and a threaded spindle attached to the base element such that rotation of the base element causes the spindle to rotate thereby displacing the elevator platform along the space formed in the interior of the refill body.

14. A refill according to claim 13, wherein the base element comprises a first substantially cylindrical sidewall, a second substantially cylindrical sidewall and a first transition portion between the first substantially cylindrical sidewall and the second substantially cylindrical sidewall.

15. A refill according to claim 14, wherein the first substantially cylindrical sidewall is situated radially inwardly with respect to the second substantially cylindrical sidewall.

A refill according to any of claims 14 - 15, wherein the base element further comprises a third substantially cylindrical sidewall and a second transition portion situated between the second cylindrical sidewall and the third cylindrical sidewall, specifically the third substantially cylindrical sidewall is situated radially inwardly with respect to the second substantially cylindrical sidewall.P12832PC0117. A refill according to any of claims 14 - 16, wherein the base element further comprises a central hollow cylindrical hub, wherein four spokes extend from the first substantially cylindrical sidewall to the central hub.

18. A refill according to claim 17, wherein one end of the threaded spindle is attached to the central hollow cylindrical hub.

19. A refill according to any of claims 1 - 18, further comprising a removable cap.

20. A refill according to claim 19, wherein the cap is adapted to be removably attached to the sidewall.

21. A refill according to claim 20, wherein the cap is adapted to be removably attached to the sidewall using a snap fit locking mechanism such that the attachment between the cap and the sidewall defines an airtight sealing.

22. A refill according to any of claims 1 - 21 , wherein the turnable base further comprises a radially outwardly step shaped to be seated on a stopper forming part of the rotary handle when, in use, the refill is attached to the rotary handle.

23. A refill according to any of claims 1 - 22, wherein the turnable base further comprises second turnable base connectors configured to releasably mate with first rotary handle connectors such that the turnable base can be releasably coupled with respect to the rotary handle,24. A refill according to claim 23, wherein the second turnable base connectors are second male turnable base connectors and the first rotary handle connectors are first female rotary handle connectors.

25. A refill according to any of claims 23 - 24, wherein the rotary handle connectors are configured to snap fit around the second turnable base connectors.

26. A refill according to any of claims 1 - 25, wherein the turnable base includes a male connecting portion adapted to be releasably coupled with respect to a female connecting portion forming part of the rotary handle.P12832PC0127. A refill according to claim 26, wherein the female connecting portion is a through- hole.

28. A refill according to any of claims 1 - 27, where the refill is exclusively made of polypropylene.

29. A refillable dispensing system comprising: a refill according to any of claims 1 - 28, a rotary handle configured to be releasably coupled with respect to the turnable base of the refill such that, in use, rotation of the rotary handle causes the turnable base to be rotated.

30. A refillable dispensing system according to claim 29, wherein the rotary handle includes a female connecting portion, wherein the turnable base of the refill includes a male connecting portion configured to be releasably coupled with respect to the female connecting portion.

31. A refillable dispensing system according to claim 29 - 30, wherein the rotary handle comprises an upper surface, a lower surface, a first sidewall, a second sidewall and a rotary handle transition portion situated between the first sidewall and the second sidewall.

32. A refillable dispensing system according to claim 31 , wherein the first sidewall extends between the lower surface and the rotary handle transition portion, and the second sidewall extends between the rotary handle transition portion and the upper surface.

33. A refillable dispensing system according to any of claims 31 - 32, wherein the rotatory handle further comprises a through-hole along the longitudinal length of the rotary handle extending between the upper surface and the lower surface, specifically the through-hole is a substantially circular through-hole,34. A refillable dispensing system according to claim 33 when dependent on claim 30, wherein the female connecting portion corresponds to the through-hole.

35. A refillable dispensing system according to any of claims 29 - 34, wherein the rotaryP12832PC01 handle comprises a rotary handle stopper which is shaped to provide a seat to a radially outwardly step forming part of the turnable base of the refill when, in use, the turnable base is attached to the rotary handle.

36. A refillable dispensing system according to any of claims 29 - 35, further comprising a plug configured to be attached to the rotary handle.

37. A refillable dispensing system according to claim 36, wherein the plug comprises a base, an outer sidewall and a substantially circular inner sidewall.

38. A refillable dispensing system according to claim 37, wherein the outer sidewall acts as a first plug connector and is configured to mate with a second rotary handle connector such that, in use, the attachment between the first plug connector and the second rotary handle connector defines an airtight sealing.

39. A refillable dispensing system according to any of claims 37 - 38, the circular inner sidewall acts as a second plug connector and is configured to mate with a third rotary handle connector such that, in use, the attachment between the second plug connector and the third rotary handle connector defines an airtight sealing.

40. A method of refilling a refillable dispensing system according to any of claims 29 - 39, the method comprising: detaching a previously emptied refill with respect to the rotary handle, providing a refill, removing the cap of the refill, attaching the turnable base of the refill to the rotary handle.
