Abstract

Methods of solar radiation modification (SRM) by stratospheric aerosol injection (SAI) of reflective particles and with respect to a desired climate state are provided. Methods comprise configuring the SAI by devising an optimized global spatio-temporal distribution of the reflective particles to keep key climate variables within desired ranges, monitoring the global climatic impact of the SAI to assess deviations from the desired climate state, and adjusting the SAI to counter the possible deviations of climate variables from their desired levels. Further examples relate to methods of tracking and authenticating aerosol particle batches deployed for solar radiation modification using batch-specific identifiers derived from markers incorporated into the particles. Deployed particles are later captured and analyzed to verify origin, assess stability and performance, and update a stored data record with deployment and lifecycle information.
