AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Conventional car washes are not designed for autonomous vehicles, potentially damaging their sensitive sensors and cameras, and can trigger lockout modes due to wash equipment movement, necessitating frequent cleaning to maintain aesthetic and functional integrity.

Method used

A vehicle wash system with a tunnel, conveyor belts, and beltless roller decks that accommodate various vehicle sizes, including dual-wheeled trucks and vans, featuring idler rollers, separation areas for fluid collection, and a rotatable drying arm assembly, along with a communication system for autonomous vehicles to manage wash processes.

🎯Benefits of technology

The system effectively washes and dries autonomous vehicles without damaging sensors, prevents lockout modes, and optimizes fluid reuse, ensuring efficient and safe cleaning operations.

Abstract

A vehicle wash system for an autonomous vehicle includes a tunnel, a vehicle wash path within the tunnel, and wash equipment disposed along the vehicle wash path. The vehicle wash system further includes at least one conveyor and at least one beltless roller deck, one for receiving the vehicle's driver-side tires and one for receiving the vehicle's passenger-side tires, each that extends along the vehicle wash path to cause a vehicle to be washed to move along the vehicle wash path. In addition, the vehicle wash system includes an entrance area leading into the tunnel, and each of the conveyor(s) and beltless roller deck(s) extend outwardly into the entrance area such that they can receive a vehicle and move it into the tunnel, regardless of the vehicle's gear.
