Abstract
A device for accessing the airway of a patient during a medical procedure comprising: a body having a base portion adapted to be inserted into a mouth of the patient and an upper portion adapted to project from the base portion and away from the mouth of the patient; the base portion having opposing surfaces configured to contact an upper teeth and a lower teeth of the patient so as to be clamped between the patient's teeth and having a recessed portion located along one side of the base portion to accommodate a tongue of the patient; and wherein the upper portion projects from the base portion at an angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of the base portion such that the upper portion projects towards a side of the patient's face, the upper portion comprising a stem portion having at least one channel extending therethrough.
