Abstract
Description
[0001] A Bag
[0002] FIELD
[0003] Versions of the present technology relate to a bag which includes a concealed location for a tracking device, along with such a bag in combination with such a tracking device. The bag may be a tool bag.
[0004] BACKGROUND
[0005] Bags for the storage and carrying of objects (such as tools) are common. Bags made of textile material tend, however, to be overly flexible which can then make the organisation of the objects in the bags difficult. This may be because the objects will not remain in the desired location (e.g. pocket or pouch) and / or may be because parts of the bag move to obstruct the view into the bag or access to the objects in the bag.
[0006] On the other hand, rigid boxes can provide readily organisable spaces such as trays in which objects may be stored. With suitable hinge mechanisms it is also possible to have rigid boxes with multiple moveable trays which fold out to provide access to the contents of the trays. Traditional tool boxes are an example of such rigid boxes. However, such rigid boxes are often heavy even without objects stored therein which makes them difficult to carry and manoeuvre. Objects, such as tools, only make this issue worse. Moreover, the rigid nature of the boxes makes them uncomfortable to carry next to a user’s body and means that the boxes have a large fixed size irrespective of their contents.
[0007] With workers often now required to move from one location to another to work on different items - such as in the construction, plumbing, or electrical industries - both bags for tool storage and rigid boxes for tool storage present various problems. In recent years, therefore, bags (such as tool bags) have been developed which are a hybrid of a rigid box and a conventional textile bag.
[0008] Tool theft is a persistent problem forthe owners of tools. Tool boxes and bags are a particular issue because the box or bag is often specifically designed to be lifted and moved whilst storing many tools. Therefore, the very features which make the boxes or bags beneficial to workers, also make the boxes or bags prone to being stolen by a thief, and the potential reward for the thief is often high because of the number of tools stored. The more tools that are stored, the more useful the tool bag or box, and the greater the impact of the theft on the worker - who must replace the tools.
[0009] Tool boxes and bags are also often left at one location whilst a worker moves around that general vicinity undertaking a task. For example, a plumber might leave their tool box or bag near to a boiler (e.g. in a plant room) but may move to other rooms to confirm the operation of that operation of the boiler is resulting in heating of those other rooms. Tool boxes and bags may also be left in vehicles for transportation or temporary storage. When the worker is not in the same physical location as the
[0010] H16501 WO tool box or bag (e.g. with the tool box or bag out of reach or sight), then there is an increased risk of theft.
[0011] In some scenarios, a worker may be undertaking a task on a busy site in which there are many workers performing many different tasks. This may result in, rather than theft of the bag or box, movement of the bag or box without the knowledge of the worker whose tools are stored therein. The bag or box may then be hard for the worker to find. Accordingly, the tool bag or box may be misplaced rather than stolen. If the tool bag or box is not then found, the worker is faced with much the same problem as theft of the bag or box. Moreover, a misplaced tool bag or box may be more prone to subsequent theft - as the bag or box is then often left unattended.
[0012] There are, therefore, problems associated with theft of bags and boxes, and in particular tool bags and boxes. There are also problems associated with misplaced bags and boxes, again this is particularly acute for tool bags or boxes.
[0013] The loss of tools, either through the theft or misplacing of a tool bag or box, has significant financial implications, as tools may well need to be replaced. Of course, the replacing of tools which were otherwise serviceable has an associated environmental impact.
[0014] As a result, there is a need to alleviate one or more problems associated with the prior art.

[0060] H16501 WO DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0061] Versions of the present technology may include a bag 2. The bag 2 (see figures 1-15 for example) may be a tool bag (i.e. a bag which is configured to store one or more tools including, for example, scissors, spanners (wrenches), screwdrivers, test devices and the like, and / or which may also or alternatively be configured to store one or more other objects including, for example, bandages, screws, plumbing fittings, wire, electrical fittings, nails, tape, and the like). In other words, the bag 2 may be configured to store one or more objects and those objects could take many different forms. However, in some versions, the object or objects collectively are relatively heavy - e.g. more than about 10 kg, more than about 20 kg, or more than about 30 kg, for example.
[0062] The bag 2 may, for example, include a base 21 (see figures 1-4 and 6-8, for example) formed from a plastics material. The base 21 may be in the form of a tub (e.g. a base member with side walls (which may be integral with the base member) extending from the perimeter thereof). The base member may be generally square or rectangular, for example.
[0063] The base 21 may be impermeable or substantially impermeable. The base member of the base 21 may be at least about 2mm thick or at least about 3mm thick or at least about 4mm thick, for example.
[0064] The base 21 may have a rear portion which may be intended to be closest to the user when the bag 2 is carried (e.g. on the user’s back or by one or more handles or straps 23 of the bag 2). The base 21 may have a front portion which opposes the rear portion and which is intended to face away from the user when the bag 2 is carried. The base 21 may have a first side portion which opposes a second side portion across a width of the base 21 . The first and second side portions may each extend between the front and rear portions of the base 21 . These front, rear, first side, and second side portions of the bag 2 may correspond to similarly named parts of the bag 2 (such that the bag 2 also has front, rear, first and second side portions defined in the same manner but with reference to the other portions of the bag 2).
[0065] In some versions, the base member of the base 21 may include one or more ridges and / or recesses in a lower surface thereof. Such features of the base 21 may serve one or more functions such as allowing the base 21 to sit more stably on an uneven surface, and / or improving the rigidity of the base 21 .
[0066] In some versions, the base 21 of the bag 2, therefore, has a base member from which side walls extend, around a perimeter of the base member. The side walls may be one generally continuous wall of the base 21 for example. With the bag 2 in a typical orientation (e.g. with the base member of the base 21 resting on a ground surface), a textile main body 22 may extend from an upper part
[0067] H16501 WO of the side wall(s) - i.e. away from the base member. The main body 22 may also extend downwardly into a volume defined by the base 21 (e.g. into the tub formed thereby). In some versions, the main body 21 may line an internal surface of the base 21 and this may include an internal surface of the base member and side wall(s).
[0068] The main body 22 may at least partially define one or more pockets for the storage of objects and may include one or more flaps, zips, hook-and-loop fasteners, loops, straps, clips, and the like. The one or more pockets may also be at least partially defined by the base 21 .
[0069] The main body 22 may be attached to the base 21 in a number of different manners which include, for example, the use of studs, rivets, adhesive, stitching, and / or plastic welding.
[0070] The base 21 may be rigid in the sense that it is more rigid than the main body 22. The base 21 may, therefore, be referred to as a rigid base 21 in some versions. In some versions, the base 21 is configured to help the main body 22 hold its shape. In some versions, the base 21 is configured to provide protection for the main body 22 from abrasion and / or from materials (including liquids) which may be present on the ground surface. In some versions, the base 21 is configured to provide protection for one or more objects within the bag 2.
[0071] Depending on the intended use of the bag 2, the main body 22 could take a number of different forms and could, therefore, define a plurality of different arrangements of one or more pockets for the storage of one or more objects, one or more flaps, zips, hook-and-loop fasteners, loops, straps, clips, and the like.
[0072] Generally, however, the main body 22 may include an arch panel 221 which may be generally n- shaped (i.e. an inverted U-shape) with two free ends which may be attached to the base 21 . For example, the two free ends may be attached to the first and second side portions of the base 21 . As will be appreciated the reference to these as free ends is to define the ends of the arch panel 221 concerned; however, those free ends are attached to base 21 in some versions and are not, therefore, free to move with respect to the base 21 . The free ends may, therefore, be referred to as opposing ends of the arch panel 221 which both oppose a curved portion of the arch panel 221. In some versions, the arch panel 221 may take different shapes (e.g. with two or more curved portions instead of one curved portion between the opposing ends) but may still have opposing ends attached to the base 21 . Therefore, more generally, the arch panel 221 may be referred to as a support panel 221 and references to the arch panel 221 herein should be construed as encompassing other shapes of support panel 221.
[0073] The main body 22 may include a front panel 222 which corresponds with the front portion of the bag 2 and may include a rear panel 223 which corresponds with the rear portion of the bag 2 (such
[0074] H16501 WO that the front panel 222 is intended to face away from the user when carrying the bag 2 and the rear panel 223 is intended to face towards the user when carrying the bag 2).
[0075] The front panel 222 may be attached at a lower end to the base 21 and at least part of an upper end of the front panel 222 may include part of a fastener (such as a first part of a zip, a hook-and- loop arrangement, or a clip). The arch panel 221 may carry a complementary part of the fastener (such as a second part of the zip, the hook-and-loop arrangement, or the clip) at a part of the arch panel 221 which is spaced away from the base 21 . Accordingly, the upper end of the front panel 222 may be removably fastened to the arch panel 221 (in an upper part of the panels 222, 221) through use of the fastener.
[0076] Similarly, the rear panel 223 may be attached at a lower end to the base 21 and at least part of an upper end of the rear panel 223 may include part of a fastener (such as a first part of a zip, a hook- and-loop arrangement, or a clip). The arch panel 221 may carry a complementary part of the fastener (such as a second part of the zip, the hook-and-loop arrangement, or the clip) at a part of the arch panel 221 which is spaced away from the base 21 . Accordingly, the upper end of the rear panel 223 may be removably fastened to the arch panel 221 (in an upper part of the panels 223, 221) through use of the fastener.
[0077] The rear panel 223, arch panel 221 , and front panel 222 may, therefore, at least partially define an internal volume of the bag 2 for one or more objects. Within this volume there may be one or more dividers and / or pockets. For example, a divider may extend from an underside of the arch panel 221 towards the base 21 and may split the volume into a front pocket accessible through use of the front panel 222 and its fastener, and a rear pocket accessible through use of the rear panel 223 and its fastener. In some versions, the divider may be attached to the underside of the arch panel 221 (e.g. along at least part of the curved portion of the arch panel 221). The divider may be attached (additionally or alternatively) to the base 21 . Accordingly, in some versions at least part of the divider extends from the base 21 to an upper part of the arch panel 221 and may, therefore, help to support the arch panel 221 against collapse (e.g. under a downward force applied to the top of the bag 2). Additionally or alternatively, the divider may be attached to opposing generally vertical surfaces of the arch panel 221 such that the divider resists movement of sides of the arch panel 221 away from each other (which may also assist in resisting collapse of the bag 2 (e.g. under a downward force applied to the top of the bag 2).
[0078] As noted, the bag 2 and, in particular, the main body 22 may take different forms depending on the intended use. The above basic example structure is provided by way of example. In other examples the front panel 222 may be provided as described above but the rear panel 223 may be different from that described above (or vice versa).
[0079] H16501 WO For example, in some versions (see figures 7-10, for example), the front panel 222 may be as described above; however, at the rear portion of the bag 2 there may be provided a rear panel which is attached at a lower end of the base 21 and which extends upwardly from the base 21 . This rear panel may be attached to the arch panel 221 towards a front of the rear panel by one or more studs, rivets, an adhesive, stitching, and / or plastic welding or may be integrally formed therewith (i.e. the attachment may be substantially permanent). This rear panel may also extend around the rear portion of the base 21 . This rear panel with the arch panel 221 and base 21 may, therefore, define a volume for the storage of one or more objects. A flap may be provided extending from the arch panel 221 and / or the rear panel which may cover an opening to that volume. The flap may include part of a fastener (such as a first part of a zip, a hook-and-loop arrangement, or a clip) and the arch panel 221 and / or the rear panel may carry a complementary part of the fastener (such as a second part of the zip, the hook-and-loop arrangement, or the clip) - to provide a releasable fastening. The flap may be located at a top of the bag 2 such that the flap may be moved to one side to gain access to the volume defined by this rear panel, the arch panel 221 and the base 21 (the flap being selectively closeable).
[0080] One or more handles and / or straps 23 may be provided, such as one or more shoulder straps 23 or a carrying handle 23, as part of the bag 2 to assist the user in carrying the bag 2. In some versions, the arch panel 221 includes at least one handle and / or strap 23.
[0081] The bag 2 could take a number of different forms, which may or may not include the base 21 as described. The bag 2 may be in the form of a rucksack (e.g. designed to be carried on a user’s back) or a bag 2 to be carried by a user’s hand or using a single strap 23 over a user’s shoulder. The bag 2 may be open topped to allow ready access to the contents or, as described above, may be capable of being closed. In some versions, an open top of the bag 2 is held open by a perimeter ring located in an upper part of the bag 2 and / or rigid, side, front, and rear panels (which may form a tub with the base 21 if provided or which may be integrally formed with the base 21).
[0082] The bag 2 may not include the arch panel 221 . The bag 2 may be open topped (e.g. the bag 2 may not have a closeable main internal volume, although one or more closable pockets 3 may be provided). In some versions, there is an internal volume which can be closed.
[0083] As described, the bag 2 may include one or more pockets 3 and may, therefore, be a multi-pocket 3 bag 2. These one or more pockets 3 may include one or more pockets 3 which are open topped (e.g. to allow one or more objects to be slid into pocket 3 through the open top) or may have a top closure mechanism (such that the pocket 3 may be selectively opened or closed). In some versions, the opening or closure mechanism is not provided at the top of the pocket 3 but, rather, to a side or bottom of the pocket 3 - e.g. depending on the intended use of the pocket 3. The closure
[0084] H16501 WO mechanism could take a number of different forms, for example the closure mechanism may be one or more of a flap, zip, hook-and-loop fastener, loop, strap, clip, and the like.
[0085] The one or more pockets 3 may include one or more pockets 3 which are external pockets such that they are provided outside of the internal volume of the bag 2 and / or may include one or more pockets 3 which are internal pockets such that they are provided inside the internal volume of the bag 2. The or each pocket 3 may be configured to store an object, which may include a tool including, for example, scissors, spanners (wrenches), screwdrivers, test devices and the like, and / or which may also or alternatively be configured to store one or more other objects including, for example, bandages, screws, plumbing fittings, wire, electrical fittings, nails, tape, and the like.
[0086] The main body 22 may be formed of a plurality of panels which may form decorative and / or technical functions for the main body 22. For example, the panels may include one or more reinforcement or stiffening panels. Moreover, the panels may protect one or more other parts of the bag 2 (which might include one or more other panels and / or the divider and / or the base 21). This protection may be against staining or wear, for example. In some cases, the panels are provided to define, or at least partially define, the one or more pockets 3. The one or more panels may include a lining, therefore, associated with at least part of the bag 2.
[0087] There are one or more locations at which at least one of the one or more panels meets to overlap with another part of the bag 2 (which may include another panel, for example). This might be the normal location for a seam (e.g. a stitched seal) between the panel and other part of the bag 2 or might be define an edge of one panel as it overlaps with an adjacent part of the bag 2. These are examples of the borders which are visual (and sometimes) tactile lines of the bag 2. In some examples, these borders are hidden from sight in normal use. For example, a border between a panel covering the divider attached to the arch panel 221 (e.g. to an underside of the arch panel 221) may be hidden from sight by the arch panel 221 (e.g. by an upper side of the arch panel 221). In other examples, these borders are not hidden from sight in normal use. This might include, for example, a border between a panel forming the back of a pocket 3 and a panel to which the pocket
[0088] 3 is mounted or a reinforcement panel located adjacent the pocket 3. In other words, there are numerous lines of the bag 2 defined by the one or more panels.
[0089] Versions may include a concealed location 1 - see figures 10-15 for example. At this concealed location 1 there may be a concealed pocket 1 or other arrangement for attaching a tracking device
[0090] 4 to the bag 2. Versions of the present technology will mainly be described with reference to the presence of the concealed pocket 1 but it will be appreciated that the description will also apply to such other arrangements. The bag 2 with the concealed location 1 may be a bag 2 as depicted in any of the figures, for example.
[0091] H16501 WO The concealed pocket 1 may be internal to the bag 2 (e.g. within an internal volume of the bag 2) and may require the bag to be opened to obtain access thereto - see figures 10 and 14-15, for example). In some versions, the concealed pocket 1 is external (i.e. accessible on an outer part of the bag 2) - see figure 11 - and this may include the concealed pocket 1 being provided with an external pocket 3 which can be closed (see figures 12 and 13, for example).
[0092] The concealed pocket 1 may be configured such that it is visually difficult to identify (e.g. it is visually obscured). For example, in some versions, access to the concealed pocket 1 may be hidden (i.e. visually obscured) using a line of the one or more lines or borders defined by the one or more panels of the bag 2. Thus, for example, the concealed pocket 1 may be visually obscured by one or more panels of the bag 2 and / or by a line of the bag 2.
[0093] In some versions, an opening to the concealed pocket 1 may be defined by one or more panels of the bag 2 at a line defined by the one or more panels. This opening may be defined by two panels of the bag 2, for example, or by one panel of the bag 2 and another part of the bag 2 such as the divider (or any other part mentioned herein). The concealed pocket 1 may be located behind one or more panels and the one or more panels may be moveable to gain access to the concealed pocket 1 . That the one or more panels may be moveable in this manner may be concealed as well. For example, a peripheral edge of a moveable part of the one or more panels may be hidden using a line of the one or more lines or borders defined by the one or more panels of the bag 2.
[0094] Moreover, the opening of the concealed pocket 1 may be hidden using such a line.
[0095] Example versions of the concealed pocket 1 are described in more detail with reference to figures 10-15 herein.
[0096] The concealed pocket 1 may be configured (e.g. shaped and sized) to receive the tracking device 4 - see figure 16 for example shapes of such devices 4.
[0097] The tracking device 4 may be configured such that the geographical location of the tracking device 4 may be determined using the tracking device 4. Different tracking technologies may be used in accordance with different versions of the present technology.
[0098] For example, in some versions, the tracking device 4 may be configured to use a short range radio frequency communication signal (such as a Bluetooth(RTM) signal) to identify itself to one or more nearby devices (such as mobile (i.e. cellular) telephones, tablet computers, and other computing devices configured to receive the short range radio frequency communication signal). The short range in this context may mean less than 300m, less than 200m, less than 100m, less than 50m, less than 20m, or less than 10m, for example. The short range radio frequency communication signal may include an identifier for the tracking device 4, for example. The nearby device(s) may
[0099] H16501 WO be configured to receive that identifier and associate that identifier with the geographical location of the nearby device (which may be determined by the device through the identification of one or more wireless networks within range of the nearby device, and / or through the use of a satellite positioning system (such as the GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, IRNSS, QZSS, or the like)).
[0100] The identifier for the tracking device 4 and the geographical location of the nearby device may then be sent by the nearby device to a remote location (e.g. using a mobile (i.e. cellular) communications network and / or a local area network (such as a wireless communications network and / or a wide area network (such as the internet)) to provide information about the location of the tracking device 4. In some versions, the nearby device may use one more characteristics of the short range radio frequency communication signal (such as signal strength or changes in signal strength over time) to infer information about the geographical location of the tracking device 4 which may also be provided to the remote location and which may, therefore, be used to provide more accurate location information for the tracking device 4.
[0101] In some versions, the tracking device 4 may be configured to use a satellite positioning system (such as the GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, IRNSS, QZSS, or the like) to determine its geographical location and may be configured to transmit this to the nearby device for onward transmission to the remote location or may be configured to transmit this to the remote location (e.g. using a mobile (i.e. cellular) communications network and / or a local area network (such as a wireless communications network and / or a wide area network (such as the internet)).
[0102] The remote location may be remote from the tracking device 4 and / or the nearby device. There may be, therefore, a computing device at the remote location and that computing device may include a server. Other computing devices may be configured to communicate with the computing device at the remote location to obtain the geographical location, for example.
[0103] In some versions (see figure 17 for example), the tracking device 4 may, therefore, include a power source 41 (such as a battery), a processor 42 (for controlling operation of the tracking device 4), memory 43 (for storing instructions for execution by the processor 42 to perform the controlling operation), a transmitter 44 (for sending the short range radio frequency communication signal and / or communicating with the mobile (i.e. cellular) telephone network, and / or the local area network and / or the wide area network), and / or a location determining module 45 (for determining the location of the tracking device 4, such as by using the satellite positioning system).
[0104] The tracking device 4 may be an electronic tracking device 4. The tracking device 4 may be a self- powered electronic tracking device 4 in that the tracking device 4 may use electrical power from the power source 41 rather than, for example, scavenging power from the local environment (e.g. as may be the case for some RFID tags).
[0105] H16501 WO In some versions, the tracking device 4 may include an outer case which is configured to protect components of the tracking device 4 (e.g. from impact damage).
[0106] In some versions, the tracking device 4 may include a connector (e.g. a socket, such as a USB-c socket) to enable an electrical power supply to be connected to the tracking device 4 for recharging the power source 41 . In some versions, the connector may also enable the instructions stored on the memory 43 to be edited or replaced. In some versions, the tracking device 4 may include a wireless charging module 46 which is configured to receive electrical power wirelessly for recharging the power source 41 . The wireless charging module 46 may include, for example, a wire coil and may be an inductive wireless charging module 46 (e.g. a wireless charging module 46 which uses inductive coupling). The tracking device 4 may, therefore, be associated with a charger 5 (see figure 18 for example) which may be configured to provide electrical power through a wired or wireless charging arrangement to the tracking device 4 for the purpose of charging the power source 41 .
[0107] In versions with a wireless charging module 46, there may or may not be the connector also provided. In versions without the connector, the outer case may substantially seal all of the internal components of the tracking device 4 to inhibit the ingress of liquids (such as water). In versions with the connector (whether or not the wireless charging module 46 is provided), the connector may be configured to inhibit the ingress of liquids (such as water) and the outer case may, with the connector, therefore provide a substantially sealed case of the tracking device 4 to inhibit the ingress of liquids (such as water).
[0108] The outer case may be formed from a plastics material. The outer case may include one or more portions of foamed material (e.g. a foamed plastics material). The one or more foamed plastics material portions may be configured to provide some protection to the tracking device 4 from impact and / or to help provide tactile concealment of the tracking device 4 (e.g. in versions in which the concealed pocket 1 is located in a part of the bag 2 which may also include a foamed plastics material or other padding) and / or to help to provide visual concealment of the tracking device 4 (e.g. in versions in which the placement of the concealed pocket 1 means that a bulkier tracking device 4 is needed to maintain the visual appearance of that part of the bag 2 (i.e. as if the concealed pocket 1 where not present)).
[0109] In some versions the tracking device 4 may be in the form of a thin card - i.e. a thickness of the card may be substantially less than a width and length of the card - and the thin card may have a width and length of a standard credit card for example.
[0110] In some versions, the tracking device 4 may be a device compatible with the “Find My” network of Apple, Inc.(RTM). In some versions, the tracking device 4 may be an AirTag (RTM) (of Apple, Inc.
[0111] H16501 WO (RTM)). In some versions, the tracking device 4 may be a Tile Slim(RTM), Tile Pro(RTM), or Tile(RTM) Mate of Tile, Inc. (RTM).
[0112] In some versions, a sleeve or other textile receiver may be provided which is configured to receive the tracking device 4 and which is, in turn, configured to be received by the concealed pocket 1 . The sleeve or other textile receiver may be configured to fit around at least part of the tracking device 4. In some versions, the sleeve or other textile receiver may include a tab extending from a main portion of the sleeve or other textile receiver to aid in removal of the tracking device 4 from the concealed pocket 1 (e.g. the tab may extend from the concealed pocket 1 or may be located at an entrance of the concealed pocket 1 and may, therefore, be configured to be manually grasped by a user to enable the user to pull the tracking device 4 from the concealed pocket 1). In some versions, the sleeve or other textile receiver may include a part of a hook-and-loop attachment arrangement, with the other part of the hook-and-loop attachment arrangement being located in the concealed pocket 1 , to enable the tracking device 4 to be secured in position in the concealed pocket 1 . In some versions, a concealed attachment pad or other receiver may, therefore, be provided instead (or in addition to the concealed pocket 1) at the concealed location 1 . The concealed attachment pad or other receiver may include a part of the hook-and-loop attachment arrangement (with the sleeve or other textile receiver having the other part) and / or may include one or more straps or clips to receive and hold the tracking device 4. In some versions, whilst a sleeve or other textile receiver has been described as providing part of a hook-and-loop attachment arrangement, that part may be directly attached (e.g. adhered) to the tracking device 4 - and, for example, the sleeve or other textile receiver need not be provided in all such versions.
[0113] Some versions of the present technology include the bag 2 configured to receive the tracking device 4 (e.g. in the concealed pocket 1 or on the concealed attachment pad or other receiver). Some versions of the present technology include such a bag 2 and the sleeve or other textile receiver. Some versions of the present technology include such a bag 2, the sleeve or other textile receiver, and the tracking device 4. Some versions of the present technology include such a bag 2 and the tracking device 4. Optionally, some versions may further include the nearby device and / or a device at the remote location.
[0114] The provision of a tracking device 4 attached to the bag 2 enables the bag 2 to be tracked. This may enable recovery of the bag 2 in the event of theft or misplacing of the bag 2. Moreover, the tracking of the bag 2 in this manner enables the options such as geofencing, so that a user is alerted (e.g. via a message provided to a computing device (e.g. mobile (i.e. cellular) telephone, tablet computer, laptop computer, or the like)) when the bag 2 leaves a geographical area which forms a geofence. This may alert the user to a potential theft of the bag 2 or, for example, that the bag 2 is about to be misplaced.
[0115] H16501 WO Concealment of the tracking device 4 may be particularly beneficial in relation to scenarios involving theft of the bag 2. If the tracking device 4 can be readily identified and removed, then the tracking device 4 may be removed from the bag 2 by a thief prior to (or shortly after) theft of the bag 2. Such action may inhibit the identification of the theft of the bag 2 and / or recovery of the bag 2, for example.
[0116] Accordingly, as noted above, versions of the present technology may include the use of the concealed pocket 1 . Different versions of this aspect of the technology are described herein but it will be appreciated that this description will also apply to versions in which the concealed attachment pad or other receiver is provided instead of a concealed pocket 1 .
[0117] In some versions, the bag 2 includes a first panel 241 (see figures 10, 14, and 15, for example) which forms at least part of a liner of an internal part of the bag 2. This first panel 241 may be, therefore, a textile panel which, for example, covers a divider within the volume defined by the bag 2.
[0118] In some versions, the first panel 241 has an upper portion located towards an upper part of the bag 2 and the user may access the content of the bag 2 through the upper part, for example. The first panel 241 may include a lower part which is located towards the base 21 of the bag 2 or some other lower portion of the bag 2 with the bag 2 oriented with the upper part being above the lower portion.
[0119] In some versions, the first panel 241 (e.g. the upper portion thereof) has a peripheral edge, which may be an upper peripheral edge, for example. The peripheral edge may define at least part of a border or boundary of the first panel 241 . In some versions, that peripheral edge is aligned with a line of the bag 2. This may be a line between two panels, or parts of the bag 2. The line may be a location at which one would expect a seam (e.g. a line of stitching) between parts of the bag 2 (e.g. between panels of the bag 2). The line may be a visual or tactile line (see the description herein in relation to borders of the or each panel).
[0120] In some versions, the first panel 241 includes and / or is associated with a closure arrangement 241a which is configured to secure, selectively, a part of the first panel 241 with respect to another part of the bag 2. For example, the closure arrangement 241 a may be configured to secure the peripheral edge or a part thereof to another part of the bag 2 (e.g. in a concealing configuration) and may be configured to release the peripheral edge in an open configuration (e.g. in which the concealed pocket 1 is accessible). The other part of the bag 2 may be a divider, for example.
[0121] The first panel 241 may be configured to be selectively placed in a concealing configuration and an open configuration. In the concealing configuration, a part of the first panel 241 may be secured to
[0122] H16501 WO the other part of the bag 2 with the closure arrangement 241a and may be configured to conceal (e.g. visually obscure) the concealed pocket 1 from visual identification and, in some instances, from tactile identification. In the open configuration, the part of the first panel 241 may be unsecured from the other part of the bag 2 (by selective use of the closure arrangement 241a) to enable a user to access the concealed pocket 1 (i.e. the concealed pocket 1 is accessible in this configuration).
[0123] The first panel 241 may, therefore, be a textile panel which can be bent or folded to move between the concealing and open configurations - i.e. at least a part of the first panel 241 may be moveable with respect to the other part of the bag 2 between the concealing and open configurations. The closure arrangement 241a could take a number of different forms but may, for example, be provided as a hook-and-loop fastener. Accordingly, a part of the first panel 241 may carry a first part of the hook-and-loop fastener and the other part of the bag 2 may carry the second part of the hook-and-loop fastener - such that the first and second parts may cooperate to secure that part of the first panel 241 in the concealing configuration. The part of the first panel 241 which is moveable between the concealing and open configurations may include the peripheral edge and may carry part of the closure arrangement 241 a.
[0124] In some versions, the peripheral edge is, with the first panel 241 in the concealing configuration, visually obscured, e.g. from above (which may be the normal position of the user with respect to the bag 2 when the user is accessing the contents of the bag 2 and so may be referred to as “in normal use”), by another part of the bag 2. This may include, for example, being visually obscured with the bag 2 open (e.g. so that a user can see within an internal volume of the bag 2, wherein the concealed location 1 may be within that internal volume). This other part of the bag 2 may be a panel (or part of a panel) of the bag 2 which may be an outer panel of the bag 2 - such as the arch panel 221 , the front panel 222, or the rear panel 223.
[0125] In some versions, the first panel 241 may be a lining panel of the bag 2 (i.e. a part of the lining of the bag 2) and so, in some versions, that the peripheral edge (which may normally be stitched into place) is secured using the closure arrangement 241a may be visually obscured (e.g. concealed).
[0126] In some versions, the first panel 241 extends across substantially an entire width of another part of the bag 2 such as another panel or divider - such that the peripheral edge does not cut across the other part of the bag 2, which would make the peripheral edge visually distinct and may detract from the concealment. In some versions, the peripheral edge may be aligned with an edge between two other parts of the bag 2, e.g. an edge between two other panels of the bag 2 - such that even though the peripheral edge may be visible, it blends in with another line of the bag 2.
[0127] H16501 WO In some versions, the peripheral edge is obscured from view by another part of the bag 2 such as a flap. Such a flap may be provided as part of a pocket 3, for example.
[0128] In some versions, the peripheral edge is aligned with a line of the bag 2 associated with a pocket 3. This may be, for example, a line of the bag 2 aligned with the top of the pocket 3. This may be a line of the bag 2 which is defined by a panel of the bag 2 which at least partially defines the pocket 3. In some versions, the line may be a line of the bag 2 which is defined by beading or trim material of the bag 2 which may be associated with the pocket 3 (which beading or trim material may provide reinforcement for the material of the bag 2 and / or may be provided for aesthetic reasons).
[0129] The peripheral edge may be a generally straight edge and the line of the bag 2 with which that peripheral edge may be aligned may also be a straight edge. In some versions, the peripheral edge may be a curved edge and the line of the bag 2 with which the peripheral edge may be aligned may be a correspondingly curved edge. It may be said, therefore, that the shape of the peripheral edge may correspond with the line of the bag 2 with which it may be aligned.
[0130] In some versions, the first panel 241 may be provided such that the first panel 241 covers at least part of a lining of the bag 2 and the concealed pocket 1 may be provided in the lining of the bag 2.
[0131] In some versions, the first panel 241 is in the form of a flap of material which is located adjacent (e.g. above) another panel of the bag 2 (which may be trim) or a pocket 3 of the bag 2. This other panel and / or pocket 3 may be provided in an overlapping manner with respect to the lining of the bag 2 such that the first panel 241 appears to be part of the lining of the bag 2 as the lining of the bag is obscured from view adjacent the first panel 241 by the other panel and / or the pocket 3.
[0132] The peripheral edge of the first panel 241 may include trim material which is configured to inhibit fraying of the edge of the first panel 241.
[0133] The first panel 241 may be a multi-layered panel. The layers of the first panel 241 may include an outer layer which is visible with the first panel 241 in the concealing configuration. An inner layer may be provided on an opposing side of the first panel 241 (e.g. facing the concealed pocket 1). In some versions, the inner layer may be water resistant to inhibit water from reaching the tracking device 4. In some versions, there may be provided one or more intervening layers between the inner and outer layers. The one or more intervening layers and / or the inner layer may help to provide greater thickness to the first panel 241 which may help to obscure the presence of the tracking device 4.
[0134] H16501 WO In some versions, the concealed pocket 2 may be provided towards a top of the bag 2 (e.g. at a location in the bag 2 which is remote from the base 21). This positioning may be in the upper half of the bag 2 or in the upper quarter of the bag 2. As will be understood, tools may be placed in the bag 2 and these tools may be relatively hard, sharp, and / or heavy. As such, placement of one or more tools in the bag 2 risk impact with the tracking device 4 and such an impact may damage the tracking device 4.
[0135] If the tracking device 4 were to be placed in the base 21 of the bag 2, then the risk of damage to the tracking device 4 is higher than if the tracking device 4 is located relatively high in the bag 2.
[0136] In some versions, the first panel 241 is an internal panel of the bag 2. In some cases, the first plane 241 can only be accessed by opening the bag 2. This may provide added security for the tracking device 4 and so also the tools in the bag 2. In particular, if the bag 2 must be opened to remove the tracking device 4, then this reduces the likelihood of a thief removing the tracking device 4.
[0137] In some versions, the first panel 241 is an internal panel of the bag 2 and has a peripheral edge which follows the shape of the arch panel 221 . With the first panel 241 in its concealing configuration, the peripheral edge may be adjacent an inner surface of the arch panel 221 . The first panel 241 may cover (or be part of) at least part of a divider of the bag 2. In some versions, the arch panel 241 overhangs the first panel 241 such that the peripheral edge is obscured from view from above by the arch panel 241 (which helps to conceal the moveable form of the first panel 241). The peripheral edge includes at least part of the closure arrangement 241a to secure the first panel 241 in the concealed configuration and permit movement of the first panel 241 , selectively, to the open configuration.
[0138] The first panel 241 may, therefore, be generally semi-circular in shape with a part of the first panel 241 which is remote from the peripheral edge being attached to another part of the bag 2 (e.g. stitched or otherwise secured to another panel (which may be part of a pocket 3, for example)).
[0139] The movement of the first panel 241 between the open and concealing configurations may in some versions be about this remote part of the first panel 241 , for example.
[0140] Another part of the closure arrangement 241a may be provided in the bag 2 adjacent the arch panel 221 . This part of the closure arrangement 241a may be provided attached to a panel or divider in this location or to the arch panel 221 itself.
[0141] Movement of the first panel 241 from the concealing configuration to the open configuration may reveal a panel of the bag 2 (which may be a lining of the bag 2) in which is provided the concealed
[0142] H16501 WO pocket 1 in which may be located the tracking device 4 (and in which there may be provided the sleeve or other textile receiver.
[0143] In some versions, the concealed pocket 1 is provided as a pocket 1 within a pocket 3 of the bag 2. In other words, the concealed pocket 1 may be an inner pocket which is within an outer pocket 3 of the bag 2 (which outer pocket 3 may be an internal or external pocket 3 of the bag 2 and is referred to as an outer pocket 3 relative to the inner pocket 3 rather than the location on the bag 2).
[0144] In some versions (see figures 10-15 for example) the concealed pocket 1 is at least partially defined by a panel (referred to as a second panel 242 for convenience although such versions may not include the first panel 241 described herein (see figures 11-13 for example, but some may).
[0145] The second panel 242 may also form part of the pocket 3 - e.g. a rear panel of the pocket 3. The pocket 3 may be further defined by an additional panel (which may be a front panel) to define a volume between the second 242 and additional panels. The second panel 242 may be the divider or an inner lining panel.
[0146] The second panel 242 may include a peripheral edge which may be located towards an open end of the pocket 3. The peripheral edge of the second panel 242 may be a straight edge. The peripheral edge of the second panel 242 may at least partially define an opening of the concealed pocket 1 , for example. The peripheral edge of the second panel 242 may be generally aligned with a line of the bag 2 which may be a line associated with one or more parts of the bag 2 at the rear of the pocket 3. For example, the line may be at least partially defined by a panel or trim material running across a part of the bag 2 adjacent but not within the pocket 3.
[0147] In some versions, this peripheral edge of the second panel 242 may include one or more parts which are secured to another part of the bag 2, such as the aforementioned panel or trim, such that the opening of the concealed pocket 3 is not defined across the entire length of the peripheral edge but only a portion thereof. Stitching, panel, trim, or other textile may be provided along the peripheral edge of the second panel 242 and may be provided uniformly along the length of the peripheral edge defining the opening and the length (if any) of the peripheral edge of the second panel 242 which is secured to the other part of the bag 2 (so as to help conceal the opening).
[0148] An attachment arrangement 242a may be provided in association with the second panel 242 and, therefore, with the concealed pocket 1 . The closure arrangement 242a may be configured to secure, selectively, the concealed pocket 3 in a closed configuration, such that the concealed pocket 3 is openable (i.e. moved to an open configuration) to enable, for example, the insertion (and / or removal) of a tracking device 4 (which may include, or not, the sleeve or other textile receiver). The closure arrangement 242a may be at least partially concealed by (e.g. covered by) another panel or trim of the bag 2 associated with the opening - such as described above. The
[0149] H16501 WO opening of the concealed pocket 1 may be at least partially defined between the second panel 242 and another part of the bag 2.
[0150] The closure arrangement 242a could take different forms but may, for example, be provided as a hook-and-loop fastener. Accordingly, a part of the second panel 242 may carry a first part of the hook-and-loop fastener and the other part of the bag 2 may carry the second part of the hook-and- loop fastener - such that the first and second parts may cooperate to secure that part of the second panel 242 in the closed configuration. The part of the second panel 242 which is moveable between the closed and open configurations may include the peripheral edge and may carry part of the closure arrangement 242a. Accordingly, when in the closed configuration, the opening of the concealed pocket 1 may be aligned with another line of the bag 2 and so concealed.
[0151] In some versions there is no closure arrangement 242a associated with the concealed pocket 1 and this may particularly be the case in versions in which the first panel 241 obscures view of the concealed pocket 1 .
[0152] As will be appreciated, therefore, a bag 2 including a concealed pocket 1 may be provided. A user may also be provided with the tracking device 4. The user may gain access to the concealed pocket 1 . This may involve, for example, moving the first panel 241 from the concealing to the open configuration and / or moving the second panel 242 from the closed to the open configuration. In some versions, the user may place the tracking device 4 in the sleeve or other textile receiver. The tracking device 4 may then (with or without the sleeve or other textile receiver, as the case may be) placed by the user into the concealed pocket 1 . The visual and / or tactile impression of the concealed pocket 1 may then be reduced by, for example, moving the second panel 242 to the closed configuration and / or moving the first panel 241 to the concealing configuration.
[0153] By using parts of the bag 2 to conceal the movability of the first and / or second panels 241 , 242, the presence of the tracking device 4 and / or its location may be concealed. This may be achieved, through the alignment of the opening for the concealed pocket 1 with other lines of the bag 2 and / or through the use of other panels (or trim or other parts) of the bag 2 to obscure one or both of the opening for the concealed pocket 1 or the peripheral edge of the first panel 241. In other words, the peripheral edges of both or one of the first and second panels 241 , 242 may be obscured (through the alignment with one of more lines of the bag 2 or obscuring with other parts of the bag 2) to conceal the presence and / or location of the tracking device 4.
[0154] As noted, the power source 41 of the tracking device 4 may be a battery and may need periodic recharging. Accordingly, in order to recharge the power source 41 , in some versions, the tracking device 4 may be removed from the bag 2 by gaining access (as above) to the concealed pocket 1 and then removing the tracking device 4 (and, where applicable, the sleeve or other textile
[0155] H16501 WO receiver). The power source 41 may then be recharged using wired or wireless recharging as the case may be and then returned to the bag 2 as described herein.
[0156] In some versions, wireless recharging of the power source 41 may be possible without removal of the tracking device 4 from the bag 2. In such versions, a wireless charger 5 may be positioned in close proximity to the tracking device 4 (e.g. within the bag 2) to enable recharging.
[0157] Some versions of the present technology may, therefore, include the wireless charger 5, for example. In some versions, the wireless charger 5 has a portion which is configured to be located with a pocket 3 adjacent which the concealed pocket 1 is provided.
[0158] In some versions the closure arrangements 241a, 242a associated with the first and second panels 241 , 242 may provided in the form of at least one magnet and at least one ferromagnetic member (or at least one further magnet). Accordingly, at least one magnet may be attached to one part of the bag 2 (e.g. to the first panel 241 or second panel 242) and the at least one ferromagnetic member (or at least one further magnet) may be attached to another part of the bag 2 (e.g. adjacent the first panel 241 or second panel 242 as described herein) such that magnetic attraction will hold the first panel 241 in the concealing configuration and / or the second panel 242 in the closed configuration, as the case may be. Such an arrangement may be provided with several magnets and ferromagnetic members (or further magnets) provided along lengths of the respective parts of the bag 2 to secure the parts of the bag 2 together along that length using magnetic attraction. In some versions, the at least one magnet, ferromagnetic member, and / or further magnet may be hidden behind a panel or within trim of the bag 2 - such that their presence is obscured visually. In some versions, padding may be provided along a part of the bag 2 within that panel or trim (in addition to the at least one magnet, ferromagnetic member, and / or further magnet) so as to provide a uniform bulk to that part of the bag 2 and help to obscure the presence of the at least one magnet, ferromagnetic member, and / or further magnet.
[0159] As used herein a “line” of the bag 2 is a reference to a visible line within the design (e.g. configuration) of the bag 2. This may be a boundary between two panels or the edge of one panel where it overlaps with another panel. This may be a line defined by trim (e.g. beading) of the bag 2. This may be a line defined by a strap 23 of the bag 2. This may be a line defined by surface decoration of the bag 2. This may be a line defined by two adjacent visually contrasting parts of the bag 2 such that there is a visual boundary between the two parts of the bag 2. The two parts may be of different colours, and / or of different materials, and / or of different textures, and / or of different weave orientations, for example.
[0160] As will be appreciated, versions of the present technology may use such lines to obscure (e.g. conceal) the presence of a movable panel and so the concealed pocket 1 and any tracking device
[0161] H16501 WO 4 therein. In some versions other parts of the bag 2 (e.g. the arch panel) may be used in addition or alternatively to obscure (e.g. conceal) the presence of a movable panel and so the concealed pocket 1 and any tracking device 4 therein. As will be appreciated it may not be that the panel itself is obscured but that the movability of the panel is obscured.
[0162] In some versions, therefore, the movable panel may appear to be a lining or part of a pocket 3 of the bag 2.
[0163] The tracking device 4 may be configured for use in determining a geographical location of the tracking device 4 and, hance, of the bag 2. A geographical location in such instances may mean a location with an accuracy of less than 1 km, or less than 500m, or less than 250m, or less than 100m, or less than 50m, or less than 25m, or less than 10m, or less than 5m, or less than 2m (i.e. the accuracy may be better than the closest 1 km, 500m, 250m, 100m, 50m, 25m, 10m, 5m, or 2m). A geographical location may mean an accuracy which is greater than 0.5m, or 1 m, or 2m (i.e. the accuracy may be not better than the closest 0.5m, 1 m, or 2m, for example).
[0164] As will be understood, versions may include a tool bag 2 or a tool bag 2 in combination with a tracking device 4, for example. In some versions, the tool bag 2 may store a tool and that tool may be a cutting tool, a moving tool, a chemical tool, a grinding tool, a measuring tool, a shaping tool, or a fastening tool, or the like. The tool may be a manual tool, for example.
[0165] References are made herein to a “panel” of the bag 2 (e.g. a sheet of material). A panel may be formed from a textile material and / or a plastics material. The panel may or may not be rigid.
[0166] When used in this specification and claims, the terms "comprises" and "comprising" and variations thereof mean that the specified features, steps or integers are included. The terms are not to be interpreted to exclude the presence of other features, steps or components.
[0167] The invention may also broadly consist in the parts, elements, steps, examples and / or features referred to or indicated in the specification individually or collectively in any and all combinations of two or more said parts, elements, steps, examples and / or features. In particular, one or more features in any of the embodiments described herein may be combined with one or more features from any other embodiment(s) described herein.
[0168] Protection may be sought for any features disclosed in any one or more published documents referenced herein in combination with the present disclosure.
[0169] H16501 WO Although certain example embodiments of the invention have been described, the scope of the appended claims is not intended to be limited solely to these embodiments. The claims are to be construed literally, purposively, and / or to encompass equivalents.
