Abstract
The present disclosure relates to obtaining Foley catheters and double-J catheters that exhibit antibacterial properties and prevent stone formation by means of coating the surfaces of urinary catheters used in the healthcare sector with multiple film layers comprising groups containing gallic acid so as to impart antibacterial properties and stone-formation-preventing effectiveness. It is intended in particular to prevent the ascending transmission of bacteria from the female or male genital region to the bladder with the aid of the catheter during urethral catheter insertion, as well as stone formation due to stasis arising from the slowing of flow and turbulent flow associated with ureteral stents inserted in cases of stricture. It is also intended to prevent the occurrence of damage that may form in the urinary tract due to oxidative stress and inflammation triggered either by infection in the surrounding tissues or by mechanical pressure caused by the stone. Effectiveness is achieved by coating the surfaces of the catheters / stents applied to the urinary tract with film layers of gallic acid, which is effective in all the aforementioned adverse conditions in preventing stone formation and is effective against infectious agents, and which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
