Description

LOCATION ESTIMATION WITH AI / ML MODELFIELD

[0001] Various example embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of telecommunication and in particular, to methods, devices, apparatuses and computer readable storage medium for location estimation with an artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI / ML) model.BACKGROUND

[0002] Remote interference (RI) refers to the disruption or influence that occurs from a distance. As an example, remote interference may be caused by atmosphere ducting. Atmosphere ducting is a mode of radio wave propagation, which usually occurs in the lower layers of the Earth’s atmosphere (e.g., troposphere) where radio waves may be bent by specific atmospheric refraction.

[0003] Remote interference may cause issues like signal disruption, leading to dropped calls, data transmission errors, or poor connection quality. Thus, it is essential to adopt necessary measures or solutions to address remote interference issues.SUMMARY

[0063] FIG. 1 illustrates an example communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. The communication environment 100 involves a first apparatus 110, a second apparatus 120, a network device 130, a core network (CN) 102 which includes a first network entity 140 and a second network entity 150. The first apparatus 110 and the second apparatus 120 are in the same region or coverage 101. The first apparatus 110 may communicate with the second apparatus 120. The first apparatus 110 and the second apparatus 120 may communicate with the network device 130 and the core network 102 bidirectionally. The network device 130 may communicate with the core network 102 bidirectionally. The first network entity 140 may communicate with the second network entity 150 bidirectionally.

[0064] In some examples, the first apparatus 110 may include a terminal device (e.g., a UE) . The second apparatus 120 may include a terminal device (e.g., a UE) , a network device (e.g., a base station, a gNB, etc. ) , or a server (such as a third-party server) . In some examples, the first apparatus 110 may include a network device (e.g., a base station, a gNB, etc. ) . The network device 130 may include a base station, a gNB, etc. The first network entity 140 may include a network function, e.g., an access and mobility management function (AMF) . The second network entity 150 may include another network function, e.g., a location management function (LMF) .

[0065] In some example embodiments, operations described in connection with a terminal device may be implemented at a network device or other device, and operations described in connection with a network device may be implemented at a terminal device or other device.

[0066] As an example, in remote interference scenarios, the network device 130 may be a gNB which generates or causes remote interference (also referred to as an aggressor gNB) . The first apparatus 110 and the second apparatus 120 may be devices that are affected by the remote interference. A device affected by the remote interference is also referred to as a victim, e.g., victim gNB, victim V2X device, victim sidelink user to network (U2N) relay UE, victim remote UE, etc. The second apparatus 120 may also referred to as a “sentinel” device.

[0067] It is to be understood that the number of the first apparatus 110, the second apparatus 120, the network device 130 and the network entity and their connections shown in FIG. 1 are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. The communication environment 100 may include any suitable number of apparatus and / or devices configured to implement example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0068] In some example embodiments, if the first apparatus 110 is a terminal device or included in a terminal device and the second apparatus 120 is a network device or is included in a network device, a transmission direction from the second apparatus 120 to the first apparatus 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , and a transmission direction from the first apparatus 110 to the second apparatus 120 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In DL, the second apparatus 120 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the first apparatus 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In UL, the first apparatus 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the second apparatus 120 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0069] Communications in the communication environment 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , comprising, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , the fifth generation (5G) , the sixth generation (6G) , and the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) , Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) , Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) , Time Division Duplex (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM) , Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.

[0070] Remote interference is a specific interference among distant time division duplex (TDD) gNBs operating on the same or overlapping frequency channels. As an example, remote interference may occur under certain atmospheric conditions where radio signals experience less attenuation. As a result, the delay of long-distance radio signals may exceed a guard period (GP) in the TDD system.

[0071] In a TDD network, remote interference may impact UL transmission. This is because DL transmission from a gNB located even hundreds of kilometers away may interfere with the UL signal, potentially reducing the uplink signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) . Additionally, remote interference may also occur in fully synchronized TDD networks.

[0072] FIG. 2 illustrates a schematic diagram 200 of radio signal propagation in an RI scenario. As illustrated in FIG. 2, the radio signal may be influenced by various factors as it traverses the atmosphere. These factors include hydrometeor scattering in clouds, reflection or refraction in elevated layers, ducting effects, line of sight with multipath enhancements.

[0073] The adjacent protected distance refers to a maximum radio frequency (RF) path distance between two gNBs. Within the adjacent protected distance, there is no overlapping of gNB DL to UL TDD transmission, and no gNB-to-gNB TDD interference. However, if the propagation delay caused by ducting is greater than the GP in the TDD system, gNB-to-gNB interference may be generated.

[0074] FIG. 3 illustrates a schematic diagram 300 of a remote interference in frequency domain and time domain. As illustrated in FIG. 3, there are an aggressor (e.g., an aggressor gNB) that generates the remote interference signal and a victim (e.g., a victim gNB) that is affected by the remote interference signal. In the spatial domain, the radio signal from the aggressor propagates to the victim through ducting in a ducting layer. In the time domain, when the interference (i.e., RI) occurs, due to the propagation delay, the DL transmission of the aggressor may affect the UL time slot of the victim.

[0075] When atmospheric ducting phenomenon happens, the interference-over-thermal (IoT) of the victim may demonstrate a “sloping” characteristic. The reason behind this is that the remote interference is caused by accumulated signals from a number of remote base stations with different distances. The interference at the victim may be significantly stronger. For example, it may be 20-30dB higher than the normal UL interference level which is caused by UEs in neighboring cells. Moreover, the remote interference level may be higher than normal received signal strength indicator (RSSI) level in those uplink symbols.

[0076] FIG. 4 illustrates a schematic diagram 400 of an IQ symptom in time domain affected by remote interference. In FIG. 4, the area 410 denotes the remote interference which has a downhill shape, and the area 430 denotes the normal UL interference or signal power which has a flat shape.

[0077] The remote interference may firstly impact the uplink symbol after GP. If ducting occurs over larger areas, it may successively influence more uplink symbols. As an example, the further the aggressor is to the victim, the more uplink symbols of the victim may be impacted. This characteristic of remote interference may determine the detection order. For example, detection may be carried out starting from the UL symbols close to the GP and then moving on to the subsequent UL symbols.

[0078] FIG. 5 illustrates a schematic diagram 500 of an interference curve with a sloping shape. FIG. 5 illustrates the influence of remote interference on uplink symbols in a 5G system. In FIG. 5, the symbol duration is 33.33 microseconds (μs) , the slot duration is 0.5 milliseconds (ms) , and each slot contains 14 symbols. The uplink symbols in block 501 are first impacted symbols, including 2-4 uplink symbols in a special slot. As an example, the first impacted symbols may include sounding reference signal (SRS) and short physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) . The symbols after the uplink symbols in block 501 are following impacted symbols. As an example, the following impacted symbols in the uplink slot may include SRS, physical random access channel (PRACH) , PUCCH, and physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) .

[0079] In the time domain, remote interference may show a downhill shape. The deepest symbol where downhill shape ends may be determined by remote distance of the aggressor. It may be feasible to obtain the location of the aggressor using the position of the last interfered symbol. FIG. 6 illustrates schematic diagrams of remote interference examples from aggressors at different locations. In diagram 601, the remote interference ends at the 13th (No. 13) UL symbol of a special slot, the distance between the victim and the aggressor may be greater than 60 kilometers. In diagram 602, the remote interference ends at the 1st (No. 1) symbol of the UL subframe, the distance between the victim and the aggressor may be 100 kilometers. In diagram 603, the remote interference ends at the 5th (No. 5) symbol of the first UL subframe, the distance between the victim and the aggressor may be 190 kilometers.

[0080] In a solution, the distance between aggressor cell and victim cell D is estimated by the interfered UL symbols and guard period symbols: D≈D1s(symbolsUL+symbolsGP) where symbolsUL represents a number of interfered UL symbols, and symbolsGP  represents a number of interfered GP symbols. D1s represents a propagation distance corresponding to a NR symbol. For TDD NR with 30 kHz sub-carrier spacing (SCS) , D1s may be calculated as below:

[0081] The AI / ML model has been introduced in the communication system. AI or ML model transfers over 5G direct device connection, e.g., for distributed learning or inference. The use of 5G direct device connection to perform distributed learning or inference among devices, achieving the goal of using local data with privacy protection, energy saving, training efficiency. etc. For example, for distributed learning, controlled by network, each device uses the localized data while transferring the intermediate data to other nodes when the device moves a certain coverage, has low power, or for combined computation for a big mode. For distributed inference, the device holding valuable input data but with low power or computation resource, may calculate the first few layers of an AI model and offload the intermedia data to another device using direct device connection for the final inference result.

[0082] Distributed AI training or inference based on direct device connection, e.g. traffic key performance indicators (KPIs) , different quality of service (QoS) and functional requirements on slidelink transmission has been studied. AI or ML is taking on more and more important tasks, releasing huge productivity gains. Intelligent agents need to exchange intelligence (e.g., models and data for AI or ML inference and training) besides broadband multimedia and traditional internet of things (IoT) traffic. However, as a new type of service conveyed in 5G, AI or ML model transfer (AMMT) leads to new functional and performance requirements to the 5GS. The following areas has been addressed, e.g., AI or ML operation splitting between AI or ML endpoints, AI or ML model or data distribution and sharing over 5G system, distributed or federated learning over 5G system.

[0083] Some use cases with new requirements and KPI related to AI or ML model inference, downloading, training, monitoring, prediction and management are identified, for various applications or verticals, e.g. image or speech recognition, media editing or enhancements, robot control, automotive.

[0084] DNNs are enhanced versions of the conventional artificial neural networks (ANNs) with multiple layers. Due to their excellent performance to learn the nonlinear input–output mapping and the underlying structure of the input data vectors, DNN models have recently gained great popularity. ANNs are composed of layers of node. Each node is designed to behave similarly to a neuron in the brain. The first layer of a neural network is called the input layer, followed by hidden layers, then finally the output layer. Each node in the neural network performs some sort of calculation, which is passed on to other nodes deeper in the neural network.

[0085] FIG. 7A illustrates a schematic diagram 700A of an example DNN. As illustrated in FIG. 7A, the DNN includes the input layer which has three nodes, the hidden layer 1 which includes three nodes, the hidden layer 2 which includes three nodes, and the output layer. FIG. 7B illustrates a schematic diagram 700B of an example working principle of a DNN. The input X (including x1, x2, x3) is multiplied by the weight matrix W (including w11, w12, w13) to obtain the output Z. The output Z is transformed into a probability distribution S through the softmax () function. The loss value between the predicted probability distribution S and the real probability distribution Y is calculated via the loss function.

[0086] In some solutions, it is proposed to use a reference signal (RS) for RIM. Such an RS is also referred to as an RIM-RS. FIG. 8A illustrates a schematic diagram of an example flow 800 for RIM. In FIG. 8A, the victim 801 transmits RIM reference signal (RIM-RS) to the aggressor 802 generating the remote interference. FIG. 8B illustrates a schematic diagram of another example flow 800B for RIM. For Framework 0 and Framework 1, the functions of RS-1 sent by victim include being able to provide information whether the atmospheric ducting phenomenon exists, being able to assist the aggressor to identify how many UL OFDM symbols at victim it impacted. For Framework 2.1 and 2.2, the functions of RS-1 sent by victim include being able to assist the aggressor to identify how many UL OFDM symbols at victim it impacted, and being able to carry enough information to enable the information exchange through backhaul (e.g.: set ID) . For Framework 1, the functions of RS-2 sent by aggressor include being able to provide information whether the atmospheric ducting phenomenon exists.

[0087] The above frameworks target management of remote interference between aggressor gNB and victim gNB, for the area where is suffering remote interference within RAN coverage, which has more air (time and frequency) , power and computation resources than sidelink. To support aggressor gNB positioning and remote interference avoidance for normal and sidelink UEs, the below problems should be considered and fixed: 1. RIM method is to be designed for the area where is suffering remote interference and out of RAN coverage. 2. It’s difficult to define and configure an interference threshold that allows to tune RI detection sensitivity, due to UE mobility and fast changing of RI signal power. 3. RIM-RS has been introduced, occupying 2 OFDM symbols, that increase Uu overheads, and it’s impossible for sidelink UE to transmit RIM-RS to network, due to limited transmission power and UE location could be out of network coverage. 4. For Uu (UE is in coverage) overhead reduction, gNB may communicate 5GC for RIM via backhaul links. It’s also impossible for sidelink UE.

[0088] Sidelink is designed to facilitate direct communication between devices independent (Mode 2) or coordinated (Mode 1) of connectivity via the cellular infrastructure, especially when UE leaves the network service area. Since remote interference may affect either Uu or sidelink (remote UE is out of coverage (OOC) , i.e., OOC UE) , it’s important to design an aggressor gNB positioning method and RI avoidance scheme for a UE either in cell coverage or out of cell coverage, which has low power or computation resource. For the OOC UE, the interfered sidelink performance is degraded and time domain IQ symptom is same as Uu. Thus, it’s feasible to apply a common AI / ML model to Uu or sidelink for aggressor gNB positioning.

[0089] In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided with solutions for location estimation of a device with a model. Firstly, a model for ranging a network device generating remote interference is obtained. By using the model, an estimated location of the network device is determined based on signal property information within a first time period affected by the remote interference. Then, remote interference management information including at least the estimated location of the network device is transmitted to a network entity. The network entity receives the remote interference management information, and then transmits a network device identification request including the at least one estimated location to a further network entity. The further network entity receives the network device identification request, determines a network device identification of the network device causing the remote interference based on the at least one estimated location, and transmit the network device identification to the network entity. Then, the network entity transmits victim information about the remote interference to the network device generating the remote interference. The network device then determines a geographic area affected by the remote interference based on the victim information, and adjusts a downlink transmission toward the determined geographic area based on the victim information.

[0090] By using the AI / ML model to estimate the location of the network device generating remote interference, the efficiency and accuracy of aggressor location determination may be improved.

[0091] Example embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0092] FIG. 9 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example signaling flow 900 for location estimation of with an AI / ML model in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the signaling flow 900 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1. As shown in FIG. 9, the signaling flow 900 involves the first apparatus 110, the second apparatus 120, the network device 130, the first network entity 140 and the second network entity 150.

[0093] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 110 may include a terminal device (e.g., an OOC UE in FIG. 10 which will be described below, also referred to as a remote victim UE) . The second apparatus 120 may include a terminal device within a network service coverage (e.g., a U2N relay UE in FIG. 10 which will be described below, also referred to as victim sidelink U2N relay UE) . Alternatively, or additionally, the second apparatus 120 may include a further network device (e.g., a victim gNB in FIG. 10 which will be described below) . Alternatively, or additionally, the second apparatus 120 may include a server for managing an AI / ML model, e.g., a third party server. The network device 130 may include a gNB, e.g., an aggressor gNB. The first network entity 140 may include a network function, e.g., an AMF. The second network entity 150 may include a network function, e.g., an LMF.

[0094] In some example embodiments, in a remote interference scenario, the first apparatus 110 and / or the second apparatus 120 may be a device affected by the remote interference, and the network device 130 may be a device generating the remote interference. If the first apparatus 110 realizes that it is affected by the remote interference generated by the network device 130 within a region where the first apparatus 110 is located, the first apparatus 110 obtains (901) an AI / ML model for ranging the network device 130. The AI / ML model may be a DNN model.

[0095] The first apparatus 110 may collect radio signal property information within a first time period affected by the remote interference. The radio signal property information indicates a change of a radio signal property over time within the first time period. By using the AI / ML model and based on the radio signal property information, the first apparatus 110 determines (907) an estimated location of the network device 130.

[0096] In some example embodiments, the radio signal property information may include indices of a plurality of time instants within the first time period, and respective values of the radio signal property sampled at the plurality of time instants. As an example, the radio signal property information may include IQ data. The IQ data may also be called IQ signal, which form the basis of complex RF signal modulation and demodulation, both in hardware and in software, as well as in complex signal analysis. As an example, the radio signal property may include the signal power or amplitude. The value of the radio signal property may include the value of radio signal power or amplitude, which may be denoted in dBm. The first time period may include one or more slots configured for GP and UL, and may start from a GP symbol.

[0097] In some example embodiments, an index of a time instant of the plurality of time instants may be determined based on an index of a symbol in which the time instant is located, an index of a slot in which the symbol is located, a number of time instants sampled within the symbol, and a sampling position of the time instant within the symbol. As an example, the index of the symbol in which the time instant is located may include a symbol position. The index of the slot in which the symbol is located may include a slot position. The number of time instants sampled within the symbol may include a sampling number. In some example embodiments, the index of the time instant may be determined by: index of the time instant=slot position *symbol position *sampling number + sampling position. For example, if the slot position is 7, the symbol position is 4, the sampling number is 100, and the sampling position 1, the index of the time instant may be 2801.

[0098] FIG. 10 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example slot 1000 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. As an example, the slot 1000 is a special time slot Slot7, with a time slot configuration of “8_2_DDDDDSUU” . The Slot7 uses slot format 56, with a matching cycle of 5ms, including 10 slots when the SCS is 30kHz. It is noted that 1 subframe equals 2 slots and 1 slot consists of 14 OFDM symbols. In Slot7, there are 4 downlink symbols, 4 uplink symbols, and 6 GP symbols. The labeled IQ data set for Slot7 may be shown in Table 1 below. Table 1

[0099] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 110 may obtain the AI / ML model through different manners or modes. As an example, the first apparatus 110 may not have the ability to train the AI / ML model. In this case, the first apparatus 110 may obtain the AI / ML model from a further device (e.g., the second apparatus 120) or a server that has the ability to train the AI / ML model. Alternatively, or additionally, although the first apparatus 110 doesn’ t have the ability to train the AI / ML, it may collect a set of data for training the AI / ML model. As an example, the first apparatus 110 may collect a first set of radio signal samples within a time period (also referred to as a second time period) , and transmit the first set of radio signal samples to a further device (e.g., the second apparatus 120) or a server that has the ability to train the AI / ML model. A radio signal sample in the first set of radio signal samples may include a value of a radio signal property at a sampling time instant within the second time period. The format of the radio signal sample may be similar as that described with respect to Table 1.

[0100] The radio signal sample may include time domain IQ data sample, and the first set of radio signal samples may include an IQ data sample set. The time period may include one or more sample slots. In some example embodiments, in the condition where the first apparatus 110 is suffering remote interference generated by the network device 130 due to ducting, the first apparatus 110 may label time domain IQ data with details such as signal power or amplitude, slot position, symbol position and sampling position. The sampling number of each symbol may be defined or determined based on a positioning accuracy requirement of the network device 130. For example, as described above, for TDD NR with 30 kHz SCS, the propagation distance corresponding to the duration of one NR symbol is approximately 10.7 kilometers. If the expected positioning accuracy for the network device 130 is around 100 meters, then the sampling number may be set to 100.

[0101] In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 120 may be a device that has the ability to train the AI / ML model. The second apparatus 120 collects (903) a second set of radio signal samples within a third time period. A radio signal sample in the second set of radio signal samples includes a value of a radio signal property at a sampling time instant within the third time period. The format of the radio signal sample may be similar as that described with respect to Table 1. Based at least on the second set of radio signal samples, the second apparatus 120 obtains (905) an AI / ML model for ranging the network device 130. For example, the second apparatus 120 may train or update the AI / ML model based on the second set of radio signal samples. For another example, the second apparatus 120 may send the second set of radio signal samples to another device (such as a server) , and receive, from the other device, the AI / ML model trained with the second set of radio signal samples.

[0102] As an example, the second apparatus 120 may label time domain IQ data with details such as signal power or amplitude, slot position, symbol position and sampling position, and preprocess the labelled time domain IQ data. For example, the second apparatus 120 may preprocess the labelled time domain IQ data by using a scaling function e.g., MaxAbsScaler () , and a filtering function e.g., KalmanFilter () . Then, the second apparatus 120 may feed the preprocessed time domain IQ data into a customized neural network for AI / ML model training. After training the AI / ML model, the trained AI / ML model may be stored by the second apparatus 120.

[0103] In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 120 may use a Keras / Tensorflow based DNN implementation to train the customized neural network based on the preprocessed time domain IQ data. As an example, RandomUniform () may be selected as a layer weight initializer that generates tensors with a uniform distribution. All layers may be regular densely-connected NN layers. At least two hidden layers may be defined and the corresponding activation functions such as tanh () and ReLU () may be selected. At least one normalization layer may be added between two hidden layers to handle gradient disappearance issues. A Classifier (e.g., Softmax () ) may be selected to output a pair of sampling indices indicating the sample positions where the downhill shape starts and ends, if RI is detected. An optimizer (e.g., SGD () ) may be selected to sample training data, predict through the neural network, measure the loss between predicted and true values, and adjust the weights to minimize the loss.

[0104] In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 120 may receive, from the first apparatus 110, the first set of radio signal samples collected by the first apparatus 110 within the second time period. The second apparatus 120 may retain or update the AI / ML model based on the first set of radio signal samples. It is noted that the second apparatus 120 may train the AI / ML model based on second set of radio signal samples, or based on the first set of radio signal samples, or based on both the first set of radio signal samples and the second set of radio signal samples, embodiments of the present disclosure does not limit it thereto. As an example, the second apparatus 120 may train an AI / ML model based on the second set of radio signal samples collected by itself first, and then retrain or update the AI / ML model based on the first set of radio signal samples received from the first apparatus 110. Alternatively, the second apparatus 120 may directly train the AI / ML model based on both the first set of radio signal samples and the second set of radio signal samples.

[0105] The first apparatus 110 may transmit a request for obtaining the AI / ML model to the second apparatus 120. The second apparatus 120 may receive the request from the first apparatus 110, and transmit the AI / ML model to the first apparatus 110. It is noted that the AI / ML model here may be a pretrained AI / ML model based on the second set of radio signal samples collected by the second apparatus 120, or a retained or updated AI / ML model further based on the first set of radio signal samples collected by the first apparatus 110, embodiments of the present disclosure do not limit it thereto.

[0106] In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 120 may not have the ability to train the AI / ML model. In this case, the second apparatus 120 may transmit the second set of radio signal samples to a server for managing the AI / ML model. The server may train the AI / ML model based on the second set of radio signal samples, and transmit the trained AI / ML model to the second apparatus 120. In some example embodiments, alternatively or additionally, in addition to the second set of radio signal samples, the second apparatus 120 may transmit the first set of radio signal samples and the second set of radio signal samples to the server. The server may then train the AI / ML model based on the first set of radio signal samples and the second set of radio signal samples, and transmit the trained AI / ML model to the second apparatus 120. By using second apparatus 120 or the server to train the AI / ML model, the efficiency of model training may be improved, and the accuracy of aggressor location estimation or prediction may be enhanced.

[0107] In some example embodiments, after the first apparatus 110 obtains the AI / ML model, it may use the AI / ML model to determine the estimated location of the network device 130. As an example, the first apparatus 110 may provide or input the radio signal property information to the AI / ML model. The output of the AI / ML model may be a predicted distance between the first apparatus 110 and the network device 130. As an example, when the remote interference (or the downhill shape) starts at Sample Index 2800 and ends at Sample Index 4300, the predicted distance between the first apparatus 110 and the network device 130 may be determined by: (4300-2800) *100 / 1000 = 150km.

[0108] In some example embodiments, when the first apparatus 110 detects degradation in some KPIs, e.g., reaching a pre-configured threshold for signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) , interference power, throughput, etc., the first apparatus 110 may measure the arrived angle of the remote interference (e.g., the angle of arrival (AoA) of the interference signal) . Based on the predicted distance, the location of the first apparatus 110, and the AoA measured at the first apparatus 110, the first apparatus 110 may derive the estimated location of the network device 130. The first apparatus 110 may determine its location via any positioning method, such as global navigation satellite system (GNSS) , new radio positioning protocol (NRPP) , or location based service positioning protocol (LPP) , etc., embodiments of the present disclosure do not limit the manner to determine the location of the first apparatus 110.

[0109] The first apparatus 110 transmits (909) remote interference management information to the first network entity 140. The remote interference management information includes at least the estimated location of the network device 130, which is estimated by the first apparatus 110.

[0110] In some example embodiments, in addition to the estimated location of the network device 130, the remote interference management information may further include the location of the first apparatus 110 and / or a time domain pattern indicating a time period affected by the remote interference at the first apparatus 110. The time domain pattern may include an indication of a first symbol where an affect of the remote interference on the first apparatus 110 starts, and an indication of a second symbol where the affect of the remote interference on the first apparatus 110 ends. As an example, the time domain pattern may include a slot index and a symbol index, e.g., from Slot7 Symbol4 (indicating the starting of the remote interference on the first apparatus 110) to Slot7 Symbol6 (indicating the ending of the remote interference on the first apparatus 110) . The first network entity 140 receives (911) the remote interference management information from the first apparatus 110.

[0111] In some example embodiments, if the second apparatus 120 is also affected by the remote interference generated by the network device 130, the second apparatus 120 may estimate or predict the location of the network device 130 by using the AI / ML model and based on further radio signal property information within a further time period affected by the remote interference. For example, by using the AI / ML model, the second apparatus 120 may determine an estimated location of the network device 130 based on the further radio signal property information. The second apparatus 120 may then transmit (913) the further remote interference management information to the first network entity 140. The remote interference management information may include at least the estimated location of the network device 130, which is estimated by the second apparatus 120. The first network entity 140 receives (915) the further remote interference management information from the second apparatus 120.

[0112] The first network entity 140 transmits (917) a network device identification request to the second network entity 150. The network device identification request includes the at least one estimated location of the network device 130, e.g., the estimated location determined by the first apparatus 110, and / or the estimated location determined by the second apparatus 120.

[0113] The second network entity 150 receives (919) the network device identification request from the first network entity 140. Based on the at least one estimated location, the second network entity 150 determines (921) a network device identification of the network device 130. In some example embodiments, the second network entity 150 may first determine a candidate geographical area which the network device 130 is located based on the at least one estimated location and a ranging accuracy of the AI / ML model, and then determine the network device identification of the network device 130 by comparison of the candidate geographical area and at least one location of at least one candidate network device. As an example, the candidate network device which is closest to the estimated location may be determined as the network device 130.

[0114] The second network entity 150 transmits (923) the network device identification of the network device 130 to the first network entity 140. The first network entity 140 may receive (925) the network device identification of the network device 130.

[0115] After determining the network device 130, the first network entity 140 may transmit (927) victim information about the remote interference experienced by the at least one apparatus (e.g., the first apparatus 110 and / or the second apparatus 120) to the network device 130. As an example, the first network entity 140 may transmit victim information about the remote interference experienced by the first apparatus 110. In this case, the victim information may include the location of the first apparatus 110, and further include a time domain pattern of a radio signal corresponding to the first apparatus 110. For example, the time domain pattern may include a slot index and a symbol index, e.g., Slot7 Symbol3 (indicating the starting of the remote interference on the first apparatus 110) , and Slot7 Symbol5 (indicating the ending of the remote interference on the first apparatus 110) .

[0116] The network device 130 receives (929) victim information suffering remote interference generated by the network device 130 on at least one apparatus (e.g., the first apparatus 110 and / or the second apparatus 120) from the first network entity 140. The network device 130 determines (931) a geographical area affected by the remote interference based on the victim information. The network device 130 adjusts (933) a downlink transmission toward the determined geographical area based on the victim information. As an example, the network device 130 may decide a downlink muting symbol pattern to avoid generating remote interference to the specific area. For example, the network device 130 may mute Slot7 downlink symbols 1, 2 and 3, when serving beams towards the victim location.

[0117] FIG. 11 illustrates an example scenario 1100 for location estimation with an AI / ML model in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The example scenario 1100 involves an OOC UE 1110, a victim gNB 1120, a U2N relay UE 1130, an aggressor gNB 1140, an AMF 1150, and a LMF 1160. The OOC UE 1110 may be an example of the first apparatus 110 in FIG. 9. The victim gNB 1120 and the U2N relay UE 1130 may be an example of the second apparatus 120 in FIG. 9. The aggressor gNB 1140 may be an example of the network device 130 in FIG. 9. The AMF 1150 may be an example of the first network entity 140 in FIG. 9. The LMF 1160 may be an example of second network entity 150 in FIG. 9. The U2N relay UE 1130 is in the NW serving area 1102. The OOC UE 1110, the victim gNB 1120 and the U2N relay UE 1130 are in an area 1101 affected by the remote interference generated by the aggressor gNB 1140. The OOC UE 1110, the victim gNB 1120 and the U2N relay UE 1130 may have some distance between each other.

[0118] The OOC UE 1110 may predict the location of the aggressor gNB 1140, to obtain a first predicted aggressor location. The victim gNB 1120 may predict the location of the aggressor gNB 1140, to obtain a second predicted aggressor location. The U2N relay UE 1130 may predict the location of the aggressor gNB 1140, to obtain a third predicted aggressor location. The predicted aggressor locations (including the first predicted aggressor location, the second predicted aggressor location, and the third predicted aggressor location) are transmitted to the AMF 1150. It’s assumed that the three predicted aggressor locations have the same distance with the real aggressor location due to the same model ranging accuracy (i.e., X = Y = Z) . The LMF 1160 may obtain an estimated aggressor location via a triangular positioning method, e.g., by comparing the estimated location with existing gNB locations for aggressor positioning. For example, the LMF 1160 may determine a gNB which is closest to the estimated location. In case the aggressor is determined, the LMF 1160 may inform the AMF 1150 the aggressor gNB ID. The AMF 1150 may then transmit, to the aggressor gNB (e.g., the aggressor gNB 1140) , the victim locations and respective affected symbol patterns of the OOC UE 1110, the victim gNB 1120 and the U2N relay UE 1130. Upon receiving the victim list (e.g., including the OOC UE 1110, the victim gNB 1120 and the U2N relay UE 1130) , the aggressor gNB 1140 may determine the geographical area where remote interference is affected and how far it is. The aggressor gNB 1140 may then decide downlink muting symbol pattern to avoid generating remote interference to the specific area.

[0119] FIG. 12 illustrates a schematic diagram 1200 of an example signaling flow 1100 for location estimation with an AI / ML model in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The signaling flow 1200 involves a victim remote UE 1210, a U2N relay UE 1220, a victim gNB 1230, a third party server 1240, an AMF 1250, a LMF 1260, and an aggressor gNB 1270. The signaling flow 1200 may be an example of the signaling flow 900. The victim remote UE 1210 may be an example of the first apparatus 110 in FIG. 9. The U2N relay UE 1220, the victim gNB 1230, and the third party server 1240 may be an example of the second apparatus 120 in FIG. 9. The AMF 1250 may be an example of the first network entity 140 in FIG. 9. The LMF 1260 may be an example of second network entity 150 in FIG. 9. The aggressor gNB 1270 may be an example of the network device 130 in FIG. 9.

[0120] At the beginning, the victim remote UE 1210 (either OOC or in-coverage) may select a U2N relay UE and proximity communication 5 (PC5) is established. For both the victim remote UE 1210 and the U2N relay UE 1220, UE registration procedure is completed.

[0121] At step 1, a customized neural network is trained by a “sentinel” device (e.g., the U2N relay UE 1220, or the victim gNB 1230) , or by the third party server 1240. The “sentinel” device may label time domain IQ data with signal power or amplitude and IQ sample index and transmit to the third party server 1240 for remote interference measurements. The “sentinel” device and the third party server 1240 may preprocess the labelled IQ data and feed the preprocessed IQ data into the customized neural network for AI / ML model training. The trained AI / ML (DNN) model will be stored by the “sentinel” device and the third party server 1240. That is, the “sentinel” device or the third party server 1240 is responsible for AI / ML model training or updating or storing and deliver the trained AI / ML model to the victim remote UE 1210 based on a model request.

[0122] At step 2, upon some key KPI degradation is detected, e.g., reaching a pre-configured threshold of SNR, interference power, throughput etc.., the victim remote UE 1210 or the victim sentinel device (e.g., the U2N relay UE 1220 or the victim gNB 1230) may measure the AoA of the interference signal and initialize a model request operation via sidelink or Uu, according to the link quality e.g., RSRP and the current location e.g., out-of-coverage or in-coverage. Three operation modes including mode A, mode B and mode C are supported for the model request.

[0123] In the mode A, the victim remote UE 1210 may transmit a model request to the U2N relay UE 1220 (step 2A1) or the victim gNB 1230 (step 2A2) for transfer of a pretrained AI / ML model. The model request may include the type of the AI / ML model and an optional corresponding IQ type. For example, the AI / ML model may be a DNN model that has been trained with time domain IQ data, or a CNN model that has been trained with frequency domain IQ data.

[0124] In the mode B, the victim remote UE 1210 may label the time domain IQ data with the signal power or amplitude and the IQ sample index. Then, the victim remote UE 1210 transmit the labeled IQ data to either the U2N relay UE (step 2B1) or the victim gNB 1230 (step 2B2) , to request the AI / ML model pretrained, retained, or updated with the transmitted IQ data.

[0125] In the mode C, the victim remote UE 1210 and the victim sentinel device (e.g., the U2N relay UE 1220 or the victim gNB 1230) may label time domain IQ data with signal power or amplitude and IQ sample index, and transmit them to the third party server 1240 (step 2C1) , to request the AI / ML model retained or updated with the transmitted IQ data.

[0126] At step 3, in the mode A, the U2N relay UE 1220 (step 3A1) or the victim gNB 1230 may directly transfer the AI / ML model to the victim remote UE 1210 (step 3A2) . In mode B, the U2N relay UE 1220 or the victim gNB 1230 may perform step 1 with current receiving IQ data and newly received labelled IQ data from the victim remote UE 1210, and retrain the pretrained AI / ML model. The U2N relay UE 1220 (step 3A1) or the victim gNB 1230 (step 3B2) may store the updated AI / ML model and transfer the updated AI / ML model back to the victim remote UE 1210. In mode C, the third party server 1240 may retrain or update an AI / ML model with received IQ and store the retrained or updated AI / ML model. The third party server 1240 may transmit the retrained or updated AI / ML model back to the victim remote UE 1210 (step 3C) .

[0127] After step 3, the model request operation is done. The victim remote UE 1210, the U2N relay UE 1220, and the victim gNB 1230 may predict the corresponding aggressor location by using the AI / ML model, respectively. The victim remote UE 1210, the U2N relay UE 1220, and the victim gNB 1230 may further obtain its current location via any positioning method.

[0128] At step 4, the victim remote UE 1210, the U2N relay UE 1220, and the victim gNB 1230 may transmit a location service request for reporting remote interference measurement results to the AMF 1250. The location service request may include respective locations of the victim remote UE 1210, the U2N relay UE 1220, and the victim gNB 1230.

[0129] At step 5, the AMF 1250 may transmit a further location service request including the predicted aggressor locations (including the aggressor locations predicted by the victim remote UE 1210, the U2N relay UE 1220, and the victim gNB 1230) to the LMF 1260.

[0130] At step 6, upon receiving predicted aggressor locations, the LMF 1260 may locate the aggressor and obtain the aggressor’s gNB ID. The LMF 1260 may then respond to the AMF 1250 with the aggressor gNB ID.

[0131] At step 7, the AMF 1250 may inform the determined aggressor gNB (e.g., the aggressor gNB 1270) the locations of the victim remote UE 1210, the U2N relay UE 1220, and the victim gNB 1230 and the symbol pattern affected by the remote interference. The aggressor gNB 1270 may then decide downlink muting symbol pattern to avoid generating the remote interference.

[0132] FIG. 13 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 1300 implemented at a first apparatus in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 1300 will be described from the perspective of the first apparatus 110 in FIG. 1.

[0133] At block 1310, the first apparatus 110 obtains an artificial intelligence / machine learning, AI / ML, model for ranging a network device generating remote interference in a region where the first apparatus is located.

[0134] At block 1320, the first apparatus 110 determines, by using the AI / ML model, an estimated location of the network device based on radio signal property information within a first time period affected by the remote interference, the radio signal property information indicating a change of a radio signal property over time within the first time period.
