Voltage-to-time converter and method of operation thereof

By combining a hybrid SAR-ADC with a VTC and using a hybrid complementary push-pull common-source amplifier, the problems of high power consumption and limited resolution in existing voltage-time converters in analog-to-digital converters are solved, achieving low power consumption and high resolution analog-to-digital conversion effects, which are suitable for deep submicron processes.

Abstract

A voltage-to-time converter is provided, including a first amplifier stage, a second amplifier stage, and an inverter. The first amplifier stage is configured to receive a first input voltage and a second input voltage and generate a first voltage signal having a first slew rate to respond to a differential voltage between the first input voltage and the second input voltage. The second input voltage is higher than the first input voltage. The second amplifier stage is coupled to the first amplifier stage and configured to convert the first voltage signal to a second voltage signal having a second slew rate using a hybrid complementary push-pull structure. The second slew rate is higher than the first slew rate. The inverter is coupled to the second stage and configured to convert the second voltage signal to generate a time representation signal. Embodiments of the present application also provide a method of operating a voltage-to-time converter.
