Abstract
The rotary engine described features a cylindrical stator and a concentrically arranged elliptical cylindrical rotor. Their geometric interaction generates a variable compression volume, allowing control of the compression / expansion volume ratio and thus the efficiency of the thermodynamic working cycle. The assembly defines two distinct functional zones: an intake and compression zone and an expansion and exhaust zone. These zones are connected to an adjacent combustion chamber where the intake and exhaust of air / combustion gases must be regulated by devices such as check valves or similar mechanisms. Combustion begins within the combustion chamber and proceeds to the expansion zone, generating the effective torque for engine operation. The engine incorporates a variable opening zone to modulate the intake flow rate, as well as radial spring seals that ensure a tight seal between the functional zones. The rotor and stator geometry allows for concentric rotation without dead spots and generates two complete power cycles per revolution. The system allows modulation of the effective intake volume and exhaust flow rate via variable geometry ports, enabling dynamic adaptation of the cycle to different operating conditions. The engine is suitable for use with various types of fuel depending on the combustion chamber distribution parameters.
