Description

The present invention relates to a support for a fishing pole having a stake and a support rail comprising a fishing pole rest. Fishing continues to be a popular leisure activity. In most forms of angling, some form of pole support is used such as a butt rest, a pole rest, or a bank stick with a pole rest or a feeder rest mounted on it, optionally with an alert system. A pole support is known to reduce arm fatigue, particularly when a person is fishing from a seated position. Whilst a lot of fishing is carried out on grassy river or lake banks in which the stake of a fishing pole support may easily secured and where anglers can be seated, people also wish to fish at other locations where a fishing pole support is harder to secure. A way of ameliorating these problems has been sought. According to the invention there is provided a support for a fishing pole wherein the support comprises a stake for mounting at an angling location, a support rail having a fishing pole rest, and rotatable linkage for connecting the support rail to the stake wherein the rotatable linkage is a triple axis rotatable linkage which comprises a first axis rotatable link, a second axis rotatable link, and a third axis rotatable link; wherein the triple axis rotatable linkage comprises a first and a second connector for linking its three rotatable links; wherein the first axis rotatable link of the triple axis rotatable linkage is formed by a first bolt mounted between the first connector and the stake, the second axis rotatable link of the triple axis rotatable linkage is formed by a second bolt mounted between the second connector and the pole rest, or the third axis rotatable link of the triple axis rotatable linkage is formed by a third bolt mounted between the first and second connectors; wherein the connector, the first connector, or the second connector is L-shaped; and wherein each bolt is provided with a clamp to secure the bolt. The inventors have recognised that there are problems with existing pole supports such as the lack of adjustability for the pole rest relative to the bank stick. Typically, the pole rest is only rotatable around a single axis. Advantages of the invention include that it allows an angler to rest a pole on a support at a location where conventional supports do not work because the rotatable linkage allows the pole to be rotated to be usable at the location, whatever the orientation of the stake. In some embodiments, the stake may have a tapered end for mounting at the angling location. In some embodiments, the fishing pole may be a fishing rod or a fishing net. 05 03 26 In some embodiments, the rotatable linkage may be a clampable rotatable linkage for connecting the support rail and the stake. As illustrated on Figures 1-3, support 10 comprises a pole rest 48, a rotatable clampable linkage 20, and a stake 14. The clampable linkage 20 connects the pole rest 48 to the stake 14. The pole rest 48 is mounted on the clampable linkage 20 such that it can be rotated about three perpendicular axes and be clamped in position. Stake 14 comprises a metal post which tapers at its lower, ground-engaging end 18 and which forms an aperture 16 at its upper end through which the clampable linkage 20 is mounted. Pole rest 48 comprises a support rail 50, upper cradle support 54, and lower cradle support 56. Support rail 50 is formed from a recessed portion 52, a first cradle support portion 54, and a second cradle support portion 56 where the recessed portion 52 is arranged between the first cradle support portion 54 and a second cradle support portion 56. The upper cradle support 60 is mounted on the first cradle support portion 54 and the lower cradle support 56 is mounted on the second cradle support portion 56. Recessed portion 52 forms a recessed portion aperture 53 on which the clampable linkage 20 is mounted. The clampable linkage 20 comprises three parts 21A,21B,21C which are each formed around a bolt 24,34,44 to provide each of the three perpendicular axes of rotation. In particular, the clampable linkage 20 comprises a stake clamp 22, a stake bolt 24, a stake washer 26, a stake connector 28, a stake connector clamp 32, a stake connector bolt 34, a stake connector washer 36, a rest connector 38, a rest connector clamp 42, a rest connector bolt 44, and a rest connector washer 46. The stake connector 28 is L-shaped and comprises a stake connector lower support 30 and a stake connector upper support 31. The rest connector 38 is also L-shaped and comprises a rest connector lower support 40 and a rest connector upper support 41. Bolts 24,34,44 each have bolt heads 25,35,45 for securing on a connector support 30,31,41. The clamps 22,32,42 are cam clamps having two positions wherein in a first position, each part 21A,B,C of the clampable linkage 20 is secured and in a second position, each part 21A,B,C of the clampable linkage 20 is rotatable. The first part 21A of the clampable linkage 20 is formed by stake clamp 22, a stake bolt 24, a stake washer 26, and stake connector lower support 30. The first part 21A is rotatable around a first horizontal axis when the stake 14 is positioned to be perpendicular to the ground such that first part 21A forms a first axis rotatable link 21A. First axis rotatable link 21A is mounted on the stake 14. Stake bolt 24 extends through an aperture (not shown) of the stake connector lower support 30 and the stake aperture 16 of stake 14 to the stake clamp 22. Stake washer 26 is positioned on the stake bolt 24 between the stake connector lower support 30 and the stake 14 to facilitate rotation of the first 05 03 26 part 21A. The stake bolt 24 is secured on the stake connector lower support 30 by its bolt head 25 and on the stake 14 by the stake clamp 22. The second part 21B of the clampable linkage 20 is formed by stake connector clamp 32, stake connector bolt 34, stake connector washer 36, and rest connector lower support 40. The second part 21B is rotatable around an axis perpendicular to the rotation axis of the first part 21A such that second part 21B forms a second axis rotatable link 21B. Second axis rotatable link 21B is mounted on stake connector upper support 31. Stake connector bolt 34 extends through an aperture (not shown) of the stake connector upper support 31 and an aperture (not shown) of support rail connector lower support 40. Stake connector washer 36 is positioned on the stake connector bolt 34 between the stake connector upper support 31 and the support rail connector lower support 40 to facilitate rotation of the second part 21B. The stake connector bolt 34 is secured on the stake connector lower support 30 by its bolt head 35 and on the support rail connector lower support 40 by the stake connector clamp 32. The third part 21C of the clampable linkage 20 is formed by rest connector clamp 42, rest connector bolt 44, rest connector washer 46, and support rail recessed portion 52. The third part 21C is rotatable around an axis perpendicular to the rotation axis of the second part 21B such that third part 21C forms a third axis rotatable link 21C. Third axis rotatable link 21C is mounted on rest connector upper support 41. Rest connector bolt 44 extends through an aperture (not shown) of the rest connector upper support 41 and the support rail recessed portion aperture 53. Rest connector washer 46 is positioned on the rest connector bolt 44 between the rest connector upper support 41 and the support rail recessed portion 52 to facilitate rotation of the third part 21C. The rest connector bolt 44 is secured on the rest connector upper support 41 by its bolt head 45 and on the support rail recessed portion 52 by the rest connector clamp 42. In an alternative embodiment, if the clampable linkage 20 has two axes of rotation, the rest connector 38 and third part 21C may be omitted such that the second part 21B is mounted between the stake connector upper support 31 and the support rail recessed portion 52. In other words, the stake connector bolt 34 may extend through an aperture (not shown) of the stake connector upper support 31 and the support rail recessed portion aperture 53. Stake connector washer 36 may be positioned on the stake connector bolt 34 between the stake connector upper support 31 and the support rail recessed portion 52 to facilitate rotation of the second part 21B. The stake connector bolt 34 may be secured on the stake connector upper support 31 by its bolt head 25 and on the support rail recessed portion 52 by the stake connector clamp 32. 05 03 26 The rotation axis of the second part 21B is perpendicular to the rotation axis of the first part 21A due the stake connector 28 being L-shaped. Similarly, the rotation axis of the third part 21C is perpendicular to the rotation axis of the second part 21B due to the rest connector 38 being L-shaped. In other words, the reason for this relationship between the respective pairs of rotation axes is because the angle between the two parts of each connector 28,38 is about 90°. In an alternative embodiment, if a different angle between the rotation axis of the second part 21B and the rotation axis of the first part 21A is sought, then the angle between the two parts of each connector 28,38 may be changed accordingly. In use, the tapered end 18 of stake 14 is secured at a suitable angling location such as in soft ground, between rocks, or at another location where the stake 14 can be secured and where angling can be performed. The clamps 22,32,42 are released such that the rotatable clampable connector 20 can be rotated about the three perpendicular axes which comprise the first and second horizontal axes and the vertical axis. The support rail 50 is then positioned such that the lower cradle support 62 and the second cradle support portion 56 are directed towards an area of water where the angling is to be performed. The clamps 22,32,42 are then secured such that support 10 is ready to receive a fishing pole. A fishing pole may be a fishing rod (which typically includes a fishing rod reel) or a fishing net. The support 10 according to the invention is illustrated in use at first and second locations on Figures 4 and 5. At the first seaside location shown in Figure 4, the support 10 is shown supporting a rod 70. Rod 70 has a rod reel 72. The tapered end 18 of support 10 is wedged in a crack between rocks 76 such that the rod 70 extends over water 74. At the second riverside location shown in Figure 5, the support 10 is shown supporting a rod 70. Claims

1. A support for a fishing pole wherein the support comprises a stake for mounting at an angling location, a support rail having a fishing pole rest, and rotatable linkage for connecting the support rail to the stakewherein the rotatable linkage is a triple axis rotatable linkage which comprises a first axis rotatable link, a second axis rotatable link, and a third axis rotatable link;wherein the triple axis rotatable linkage comprises a first and a second connector for linking its three rotatable links;wherein the first axis rotatable link of the triple axis rotatable linkage is formed by a first bolt mounted between the first connector and the stake, the second axis rotatable link of the triple axis rotatable linkage is formed by a second bolt mounted between the second connector and the pole rest, and the third axis rotatable link of the triple axis rotatable linkage is formed by a third bolt mounted between the first and second connectors;wherein the connector, the first connector, and the second connector is L-shaped; andwherein each bolt is provided with a clamp to secure the bolt.

2. A support as defined in Claim 1 wherein the rotatable linkage is a clampable rotatable linkage for connecting the support rail and the stake.

3. A support as defined in Claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the first axis is a horizontal axis when the stake is perpendicular to a horizontal surface.

4. A support as defined in any one of the preceding Claims wherein each bolt is mounted on a connector.

5. A support as defined in Claim 4 wherein each connector forms one or more apertures to receive its respective bolt.

6. A support as defined in any one of the preceding Claims wherein the stake forms an aperture for receiving the first bolt; preferably the stake forms an aperture at its upper end.

7. A support as defined in any of the preceding Claims wherein the pole rest forms an aperture for receiving the second or third bolt; preferably the pole rest may form an aperture in its middle such that pole is balanced on the support.

8. A support as defined in any one of the preceding Claims wherein one end of each bolt is provided with a clamp; preferably the clamp is a cam clamp; preferably each bolt is provided with a bolt head to prevent its removal; preferably the other end of each bolt is provided with a bolt head.

9. A support as defined in any one of the preceding Claims wherein the stake has a tapered end for mounting at the angling location.

10. A support as defined in any one of the preceding Claims wherein the fishing pole is a fishing rod or a fishing net.

11. A support as defined in any one of the preceding Claims wherein the stake is telescopic.

12. A support as defined in any one of the preceding Claims wherein the pole rest comprises upper and lower cradle supports for a fishing pole; preferably the pole rest comprises a support rail; preferably the upper and lower cradle supports are provided at opposite ends of the pole rest; preferably the support rail comprises a recessed portion for receiving a clamp.05 03 26
