AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing zinc-air batteries are difficult to recharge due to issues with dendritic crystals of zinc being brittle, prone to oxidation, and challenging to ensure sufficient electrical contact with the current collector, and existing mechanical charging systems face inefficiencies in zinc fuel supply and regeneration.

Method used

A zinc fuel production method involving a granular support with a conductive current collector surface and a densified zinc layer formed by crushing dendritic crystals, ensuring easy handling, storage, and efficient electrical contact, using barrel plating techniques to produce zinc fuel from zinc oxide.

Benefits of technology

The method enables easy production, handling, and refilling of zinc fuel, ensuring effective contact with the current collector, and facilitates efficient energy circulation by regenerating and reusing zinc oxide as fuel, enhancing discharge capacity and storage stability.

Abstract

To provide a zinc fuel which can be manufactured by regeneration of zinc oxide, is easy to handle and store, and is easy to secure contact with a current collector, and to provide its manufacturing method.SOLUTION: The zinc fuel 2 has a granular support 3 whose surface is formed of a current collector 5, and a negative electrode active material layer 4 covering the surface of the support 3. The negative electrode active material layer 4 is a generated zinc layer formed by dendritic crystals of zinc or a zinc alloy deposited on the surface of the support 3, in which some of the dendritic crystals are crushed and densified, and voids are provided between the crushed dendritic crystals. The zinc fuel 2 is manufactured by a method in which a granular support 3 at least the surface of which is formed of a current collector is put in a barrel 54, and dendritic crystals of zinc or zinc alloy are deposited on the surface of the support 3 by electrolysis of zinc oxide while rotating the support 3 in an electrolytic solution.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
