The splicing apparatus for splicing strips of tape (9), in particular adhesive cable tape strips, comprising - a conveyor belt (2) carrying a first section of tape (9), - a splicing device (3) comprising a splicing unit (4) in which a leading edge (22) of a strip of tape (9) carried on the conveyor belt (2) is spliced ​​with a trailing edge (18) of a previously spliced ​​strip of tape (9) to form a spliced ​​tape (11), and comprising a conveyor belt (5) for carrying the spliced ​​tape, - and a sensor device for detecting a position of at least the carried strip of tape (9), based on which the carried strip of tape (9) and the spliced ​​strip (11) can be aligned with each other by means of an alignment device, wherein the sensor device has a first sensor device (13) arranged in a longitudinal position on the conveyor belt (2),which is designed to detect the position of a longitudinal edge (20) of the strip of belt (9), wherein a control device (15) is provided which is designed to determine a lateral displacement of the detected position of the longitudinal edge (20) with respect to the position of the longitudinal edge (21) of the spliced ​​belt (11), and through which, by determining a displacement, a drive means (16) of the splicing device (3) mounted transversely to the transport direction of the conveyor belt (2) can be controlled for the aligned alignment of both longitudinal edges (20, 21).
