[0018] I. Introduction
[0019] The present patent document describes channel state information (CSI) report configurations, reporting formats, uplink control information (UCI) mapping orders, and priority rules for transmitting two CSI reports corresponding to two receiving antenna port groups of user equipment (UE) .
[0020] To support higher-layer downlink transmissions, e.g., 5, 6, or 7 layers, a User Equipment (UE) is required to equip more receiving antenna ports, e.g., 6, 7, or 8 ports. However, due to limited processing capability at the UE side, the receiving antenna ports may need to be divided into two groups, and the data received by the two groups are processed separately. FIG. 1 illustrates an example where a Base Station (BS) implements a 6-layer downlink transmission towards a UE equipped with two receiving antenna port groups. Each group includes 4 receiving antenna ports, and layers #0~2 and #3~5 are transmitted towards group #1 and #0, respectively. After receiving the data, layers #0~2 and layers #3~5 are demodulated separately. Then, in this scenario, how should BS indicate the channel state information (CSI) report configuration for the two receiving antenna port groups, and how should the UE report the CSI between the BS and the two receiving antenna port groups? In this patent document, we provide the following embodiments to address the above issues.
[0021] Embodiment #1: CSI report configuration for UE equipped with two receiving antenna port groups.
[0022] Embodiment #2: Reporting format of the two CSI reports corresponding to the two receiving antenna port groups.
[0023] Embodiment #3: Uplink Control Information (UCI) mapping for the two CSI reports.
[0024] Embodiment #4: Dropping rules for the two CSI reports.
[0025] Current standards specify the CSI configuration and reporting behaviors for UE equipped with only one receiving antenna port group. Based on the current standards, UE receives one set of CSI report configurations from BS, and reports one CSI report to BS. In this patent document, we consider the case where the UE is equipped with two receiving antenna port groups, and each group includes multiple antenna ports. In this case, UE receives one set of CSI report configurations, but reports two CSI reports. Each CSI report reflects the channel state between the BS and one of the two receiving antenna port groups. The set of CSI report configurations includes multiple parameters. For most parameters, the set of CSI report configurations only includes one such parameter, which applies to both CSI reports. For the remaining parameters, the set of CSI report configurations include two such parameters, and each of the two such parameter applies to one of the two CSI reports. For the two CSI reports, most information is different for the two reports, and such information is reported twice. Meanwhile, the two CSI reports also share some common information, and such information is only reported once. In this patent document, we provide methods to address the following issues:
[0026] What is the specific format of the set of CSI report configurations?
[0027] What is the specific format of the two CSI reports corresponding to two receiving antenna port groups?
[0028] How should UE send the two CSI reports to BS using Physical Uplink Shared CHannel (PUSCH) or Physical Uplink Control CHannel (PUCCH) ?
[0029] What is the dropping rule for the two CSI reports when part of the reports collides with higher-priority uplink signals?
[0030] First, we provide explanations of some terminologies to be used in the patent document.
[0031] In this patent document,
[0032] “UE” can be equivalent to wireless communication device;
[0033] “BS” can be equivalent to the next Generation Node B (gNB) , wireless network device, or Transmission and Reception Point (TRP) ;
[0034] A “receiving antenna port group” is equivalent to a “segment of receiving antenna ports, ” or a “receiving antenna panel; ”
[0035] “parameter” can be equivalent to “higher layer parameter, ” or “Radio Resource Control (RRC) parameter. ”
[0036] The Spatial Domain (SD) bases vl, m and are defined in clause 5.2.2.1 of TS 38.214 as:
[0037] The Frequency Domain (FD) bases are defined in clause 5.2.2.2.5 of TS 38.214 as:
[0038] where
[0039] The general procedure of CSI reporting for UE equipped with two receiving antenna port groups is as follows:
[0040] UE receives a set of CSI report configurations and CSI-RS (s) (CSI Reference Signal) from BS;
[0041] UE determines two CSI reports corresponding to the two receiving antenna port groups based on the set of CSI report configurations;
[0042] UE sends the two CSI reports to BS.
[0043] II. Embodiment 1
[0044] CSI report configuration for UE equipped with two receiving antenna port groups.
[0045] UE receives one set of CSI report configurations from BS (one set of CSI report configurations is equivalent to one higher layer parameter CSI-ReportConfig) .
[0046] For most parameters, the set of CSI report configurations only includes one such parameter, and such parameter applies to both CSI reports.
[0047] The set of CSI report configurations can include only one codebook configuration parameter (only one higher layer parameter codebookConfig) .
[0048] The codebook configuration parameter can include only one pair of integers N1 and N2, where N1 and N2 indicates the number of CSI-RS ports along two respective directions.
[0049] For the remaining parameters, the set of CSI report configurations includes two separate such parameters, and each of the two such parameters applies to one of the two CSI reports.
[0050] The codebook configuration parameter can include two ri-Restriction parameters for Type-I-Single-Panel, Type-II-Multiple-Panel, Type-II, Type-II-Port-Selection, enhanced-Type-II, enhanced-Type-II-Port-Selection, and further-enhanced-Type-II-Port-Selection codebooks. The parameter ri-Restriction includes a bit sequence, which indicates the allowed rank indicator (RI) .
[0051] For Type-I-Single-Panel codebook, the bit length of ri-Restriction can be 4.
[0052] The bit lengths of the two ri-Restriction can be equal to the numbers of antenna ports of the two respective UE panels.
[0053] The codebook configuration parameter can include two codebookSubsetRestriction parameters. For Type-I-Single-Panel and Type-I-Multiple-Panel codebooks, the parameter codebookSubsetRestriction includes a bit sequence, which indicates which spatial bases the precoder indicated by the Pre-coding Matrix Indicator (PMI) are not allowed to be associated with. For Type-II and enhanced-Type-II codebooks, the parameter codebookSubsetRestriction includes a bit sequence, which indicates the maximum allowed amplitude coefficient for some spatial bases vl, m.
[0054] III. Embodiment 2
[0055] Reporting format of the two CSI reports corresponding to two UE panels.
[0056] UE determines two CSI reports based on the set of CSI report configurations, and sends the two CSI reports to the BS. For the two CSI reports, most information is different for different CSI reports, and such information is reported twice. Meanwhile, the two CSI reports also share some common information, and such information is only reported once.
[0057] Each of the two CSI reports includes CSI-RS Resource Indicator (CRI) (if exists) , Rank Indicator (RI) (if exists) , Layer Indicator (LI) (if exists) , Precoding Matrix Indicator (PMI) (if exists) , Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) (if exists) .
[0058] The two CSI reports can share a common CRI.
[0059] When the higher layer parameter cqi-BitsPerSubband in CSI-ReportConfig is not configured, the two CSI reports can share a common wideband CQI index.
[0060] For each of the CSI reports, for each subband index s, a 2-bit sub-band differential CQI is defined as:
[0061] Sub-band Offset level (s) = sub-band CQI index (s) -wideband CQI index.
[0062] For Type-I-Single-Panel codebook, the two precoders corresponding to the two PMIs in the two CSI reports can be associated with two different sets of SD bases vl, m or and the two sets of SD bases vl, m or do not overlap.
[0063] For Type-I-Single-Panel codebook, the two PMIs in the two separate CSI reports can include two separate sets of SD bases indicators (the two PMIs can include two separate sets of i1, 1 and i1, 2, where i1, 1 and i1, 2 are defined in clause 5.2.2.2.1 of TS 38.214) .
[0064] The two sets of SD bases indicators indicate two different SD bases vl, m or (the i1, 1 and i1, 2 in the two PMIs indicate two different SD bases vl, m or ) .
[0065] For Type-I-Single-Panel codebook-based 1-layer or 2-layer CSI reporting, when the parameter codebookMode is set to “2” , the two PMIs in the two separate CSI reports can share a common set of wide-band SD bases indicators and include different sub-band SD and phase indicators (the two PMIs can share a common set of i1, 1 and i1, 2, and include different i2, where the i1, 1 , i1, 2 and i2 are defined in clause 5.2.2.2.1 of TS 38.214) .

[0068] The two sets of SD bases indicators indicate two different sets of SD bases vl, m (the i1, 1, i1, 2, and i1, 3 in the two PMIs indicate two different sets of SD bases vl, m) , and the two sets of SD bases do not overlap.
[0069] For Type-II or enhanced-Type-II codebook, the two PMIs in the two CSI reports can share a common set of oversampling factors (the two PMIs in the two CSI reports can share a common i1, 1 or a common set of q1 and q2, where the i1, 1, q1 and q2 are defined in clause 5.2.2.2.3 of TS 38.214) .

[0101] IV. Embodiment 3
[0102] UCI mapping for the two CSI reports.

[0105] UE can send the two CSI reports as a whole (i.e., the two CSI reports as a whole are equivalent to a legacy CSI report) .
[0106] When each of the two CSI reports includes one part, the two CSI reports can be mapped to one UCI bit sequence a0, a1, a2, a3, ..., aA-1 according to one of the following orders shown in FIG. 2 and FIG. 3.
