Description

[0001] A SMART DROPBOX FOR LOST ITEM RETRIEVAL AND A METHOD THEREOF

[0002] EARLIEST PRIORITY DATE:

[0003] This Application claims priority from a Complete patent application filed in India having Patent Application No. 202341078000, filed on November 16, 2023, and titled “A SMART DROPBOX FOR LOST ITEM RETRIEVAL AND A METHOD THEREOF”.

[0004] FIELD OF INVENTION

[0005] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to the field of smart devices, and more particularly, a smart dropbox for lost item retrieval and a method thereof.

[0006] BACKGROUND

[0007] Losing personal property is a frustrating, stressful and an annoying experience for many individuals. The traditional process of recovering lost items involves a cumbersome and timeconsuming process. Individuals who find lost items are often faced with the tedious task of submitting the lost items to a local police station or authorized personnel. This process is inconvenient and time consuming. Additionally, it becomes a challenge to return the lost items in public areas or crowded places as one needs to spot a particular authority to hand over the lost items. As a result, people are unwilling to invest their time and energy to return the lost items and therefore tend to simply ignore and walk away.

[0008] Further, when individuals do make the effort to return the lost items to the authorities, there is often a lack of transparency in the process as they do not receive clear information about the status of the lost items that they have returned. People who initiate these acts of kindness may not receive any acknowledgment, rewards, or updates regarding the lost items they've returned, leaving them without a sense of appreciation.

[0009] An existing process to return the lost items involves multiple communication systems, for example, a website and mobile applications, for posting descriptions of the lost items and found items. However, such communication systems lack a safety mechanism for the lost items and an alert system upon discovery of the lost items. Among other drawbacks, the communication systems also fail to provide a process to recover the lost items with ease.

[0010] Hence, there is a need for a smart dropbox for lost item retrieval and a method thereof which addresses the aforementioned issue(s).

[0011] OBJECTIVES OF THE INVENTIONS

[0012] The primary objective of the invention is to provide a smart dropbox equipped with advanced technologies for the retrieval of lost items, benefiting both those who have lost items and those who find the lost items.

[0013] Another objective of the invention is to provide a display module that displays a plurality of lost items and allows an owner to claim the lost item interactively.

[0014] Yet, another objective of the invention is to utilize artificial intelligence to identify, categorize, and retrieval process of lost items while providing personalized assistance to enhance the overall effectiveness and user experience.

[0015] Yet, another objective of the invention is to prevent fraudulent claims and ensure that only genuine owners retrieve the lost items.

[0016] Yet, another objective of the invention is to instill awareness, empathy and responsibility among people in an ecosystem with regard to lost items.

The processing subsystem (105) includes an alert generation module (126) configured to generate a real-time alert in response to dropping the lost items using the artificial intelligence model. In response to the artificial intelligence model identifying the lost item, the alert generation module (126) generates a real-time alert. The real-time alert may be in the form of an audible alert, visual alert, or the like. The audible alert may be a beep or a voice notification, which is very effective in a crowded ecosystem. The visual alert may be a light-based notification, visuals, and the like, which is in the ecosystem where voice compromise or in conjunction with the voice alert.

[0042] The processing subsystem (105) includes a display module (128) configured to display a plurality of images and information of the lost items in response to a passerby entering a predetermined vicinity of the smart dropbox (100) via the user interface. The passerby is an individual who is moving in proximity to around the smart dropbox (100). The predetermined vicinity is set according to the specific operational requirements defined by a smart dropbox (100)'s operator. Further, the display module (128) is configured to display a plurality of advertisements via the user interface.

[0043] The processing subsystem (105) includes an owner interaction module (130) configured to enable a second user (145) to select the lost item from the smart dropbox (100) via the user interface. The second user (145) is the owner claiming the lost item. The second user (145) may view the lost items through the user interface on the smart dropbox (100) or through his / her user device.

[0044] Once the second user (145) confirms the lost item, the second user (145) raises a claim request. The owner interaction module (130) is configured to receive the claim request from the second user (145). The claim request includes identification information and a proof of ownership of the lost item. The identification information includes the name, contact details, and like of the second user (145). The proof of ownership may vary depending on the type of lost item. For instance, when the lost item is a wallet, the proof of ownership involves detailing of the contents of the wallet, images of the lost item, providing a copy of the second user’s (145) identification and the like. In another instance, if the lost item is a passport, then the proof of ownership includes personal identification information from the passport and the like.

The smart dropbox (100) includes a reward generation module (138) operatively coupled to the validation module (132). The reward generation module (138) is configured to generate a reward to motivate the first user (140) in response to dropping the lost item. Examples of the reward include, but is not limited to, at least one discount, coupons, cash, tokens and the like. The first user (140) is entitled to redeem the discounts or coupons at specific shops, service providers, or any offer related to business. Depending on the nature of the rewards, users may be able to redeem them both online and in physical stores. Further, the value of the lost item returned, and the frequency of the user actions (returning mentality) may influence the range and scale of the rewards. The user who consistently returns the high value lost item may receive more substantial rewards to recognize and further motivation. In one embodiment, other suitable incentives are used to encourage users to find the lost items. For example, a sponsor may provide promotions or free gifts for users that found and returned lost items. In another embodiment, the second user (145) can purchase discounted gift cards or other promotional materials to be gifted to the first user (140) who found their lost items.

[0051] Let’s consider an example when a first user (140) ‘X’ finds a blue color wallet pertaining to a particular brand “A” at a shopping complex. The user ‘X’ decides to return the lost item to the owner. User ‘X’ locates a nearby smart dropbox (100) and drops the wallet inside the smart dropbox (100) through a slot. A real-time alert is generated by the alert generation module (126) of the smart dropbox (100) helps the user ‘X’ to locate the smart dropbox (100). User X accesses a user interface provided by the smart dropbox (100) by scanning a QR code displayed on the smart dropbox (100), which directs them to a secure portal for entering a plurality of details including their personal information. A detection module (122) detects the presence of the lost item, triggers a camera to capture an image of the lost item and upload the captured image to a centralized database (110), along with a plurality of details. A categorization module (124) categorizes the lost items by an artificial intelligence model and displays a plurality of images of the lost items using a display module (128). Meanwhile, a second user (145), 'User Y,' realizes that he / she has misplaced his / her wallet at the shopping complex. The user ‘Y’ locates the smart dropbox (100) and verifies the displayed list of lost items. Upon identifying his / her wallet, the user ‘ Y’ raises a claim request along with identification information and proof of ownership. The smart dropbox (100) generates a plurality of questions about the wallet, such as brand, color, and size. The user Y provides these details, along with photographs, as proof of ownership. The validation module (132) ensures the provided information is valid and the return of the wallet. As the user ‘Y’ receives the wallet, the user ‘X’ receives a reward in the form of coupons that can be claimed in different stores in the same mall. The rewards are generated by the reward generation module of the smart dropbox (100).
