[0001] IMPROVED COVERING ELEMENT FOR IRONING SURFACES.

[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD

[0003] The present invention relates to an improved covering element for ironing surfaces, in particular of the ironing board cover type.

[0004] STATE OF THE ART

[0005] In the context of ironing, the cover is used to cover an ironing board, and more precisely it is placed between the board itself and the fabric to be ironed, in order to protect the ironing board from the heat and steam coming from the iron, and also to make it easier for the iron to slide over the surface, making the operation easier and safer.

[0006] Currently, for the production of ironing board covers, it is already known to use a multilayer consisting of an external layer of fabric, one or more intermediate layers of flannel or rubber, for example expanded polyurethane, and a metallised internal layer. Such a multilayer is described for example in NL1035968 wherein it is also provided that the metallised internal layer is supported underneath by a foam substrate.

[0007] Furthermore, MI 1995A002751 (application no. MI1995A002751) describes a covering material for ironing surfaces formed by an external upper layer of fabric, a first underlying intermediate layer of polymeric material, a second underlying intermediate layer consisting of a metallised film and an internal lower base layer in a material selected from natural fibre meltons, synthetic fibre meltons, expanded polyurethane, expanded polyethylene or expanded PVC.

[0008] These known solutions are not completely satisfactory because the heat produced by the iron generates a significant production of humidity which is absorbed and stagnates inside the ironing board cover itself, thus causing an unwanted wet effect.

[0009] Not only that, the materials currently known for making ironing board covers do not have optimal heat reflection, thus requiring higher energy consumption as well as increased ironing time.

[0010] Furthermore, the known covers are particularly thick and this makes them particularly bulky, especially when folded and not in use.

[0011] Furthermore, a drawback of the known ironing board covers is linked to the fact that, if a user has to move away from the ironing station, and forgets the iron resting on the ironing board (and therefore on the ironing board cover itself), this, following prolonged contact with the hot plate of the iron, can be damaged. In particular, the plate of the iron can be at a temperature higher than 100°C, and generally at a temperature of at least 150°C, even up to 220°C. OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

[0012] The object of the invention is to propose a covering element for an ironing surface that solves, in whole or at least in part, the aforementioned drawbacks present in traditional solutions.

[0026] The present invention relates to a covering element for an ironing surface, preferably of the type configured as a cover for an ironing board, characterised in that it comprises a fabric layer with:

[0037] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION AND OF SOME PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0038] Hereinafter, the term “covering element” or “board cover” specifically refers to the element that covers and / or wraps the ironing surface, and in particular the upper surface of the ironing board, and on which the garment to be ironed and / or the iron is directly placed, thus excluding additional accessories that are used to be positioned between such covering element / board cover and the surface / ironing board and which, therefore, are not in direct contact with the garment to be ironed. In particular, the board cover is used to cover an ironing board, and more precisely, it is placed between the board itself and the fabric to be ironed, in order to protect the ironing board from the heat and steam coming from the iron, and also to make it easier for the iron to slide over the surface, making the operation easier and safer.

Covering element (2) for an ironing surface (30), preferably of the type configured as a board cover for an ironing board, characterised in that it comprises a layer (6) of fabric with:- a waterproofing resin applied to the side of the lower / inner surface of said layer (6), and- a water-repellent finishing mixture.

2. Covering element according to claim 1 , wherein said waterproofing resin is applied by spreading on the side of the lower / internal surface of said layer, thus defining a layer suitable for avoiding and / or in any case significantly reducing the passage of air and / or vapour.

3. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein said water-repellent finishing mixture is applied to said layer (6) by impregnation or immersion, to thus impregnate the entire layer (6) or the entire covering element (2) so as to avoid and / or in any case significantly reduce the passage of water and / or steam.

4. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein a composition containing a composite material with at least one inorganic pigment and / or at least one mineral is applied, preferably by spreading, to the upper / outer surface of the layer (6).

Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, which consists exclusively of said layer (6) impregnated with said water-repellent finishing mixture and with said at least one waterproofing resin applied on the side of the lower / internal surface of the layer (6), possibly with applied said composition and / or a further composition to increase the smoothness of the iron on said covering element (2) and / or a second composition comprising at least one metal.

Covering element (2) for an ironing surface (30), preferably of the type configured as a board cover for an ironing board, characterised in that it comprises a layer (6) of fabric, and wherein:- on the upper / outer surface of the layer (6) a composition containing a composite material with at least one inorganic pigment and at least one mineral is applied, preferably by spreading,- on the side of the lower / inner surface of the layer (6) at least one waterproofing resin is applied, preferably by spreading.

Covering element according to the previous claim, comprising a water-repellent finishing mixture applied to said layer (6) by impregnation or immersion, to thus impregnate the entire layer (6) or the entire covering element (2) so as to avoid and / or in any case significantly reduce the passage of water and / or steam.

9. Covering element according to claim 7 or 8, wherein a water-repellent finishing mixture is applied, preferably by impregnation, more preferably by using a scarf technique, to the side of the upper / outer surface and / or to the side of the lower / inner surface of the layer (6).

Covering element according to one or more of claims 7 - 9, which is exclusively constituted by said layer (6) with said composition applied on the upper / external surface of the layer (6) and with said at least one waterproofing resin applied on the side of the lower / internal surface of the layer (6), possibly with applied a further composition to increase the smoothness of the iron on said covering element (2) and / or a second composition comprising at least one metal and / or a water-repellent finishing mixture.11 . 13. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein said composition is a composition of titanium dioxide and mica, acrylic based in aqueous emulsion.

14. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein said composition comprises a base of said inorganic pigment covered with a mineral.

15. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein a second composition comprising at least one metal, preferably in powder form, more preferably powdered aluminium, is applied, preferably by spreading, to the lower / inner surface of the layer (6).

Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein:- said at least one waterproofing resin comprises a first waterproofing resin and a second waterproofing resin,- following the respective cross-linking, the first waterproofing resin is more rigid / harder than the second waterproofing resin.

17. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein above said composition applied on the upper / external surface of the layer (6) a further composition is applied, preferably by spreading, to increase the smoothness of the iron on said covering element (2).

18. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein said water-repellent finishing mixture is free from fluoroderivatives and APEO.

19. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein said mixture for the water-repellent finishing is a water-repellent polyurethane resin.

20. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein the mean air permeability value, determined according to the UNI EN ISO 9237:1997 standard, is lower than 1 L / cm2 / s, preferably lower than 0.5 L / cm2 / s, more preferably lower than 0.1 L / cm2 / s.

Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein said at least one waterproofing resin comprises a combination of a first waterproofing resin and a second waterproofing resin and wherein said first waterproofing resin and said second waterproofing resin are mixed together before the application on the layer (6).

22. Covering element according to the preceding claim, wherein the ionic charge of said first waterproofing resin is anionic or non-ionic and wherein the ionic charge of said second waterproofing resin is anionic or non-ionic.

23. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein the pH of said water-repellent finishing mixture is approximately 3.5 - 5.5.

24. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein the fabric of the layer (6) has a weight of 80 - 200 g r / m2 , more preferably 130 - 150 gr / m2.

25. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein the fabric of the layer (6) is substantially elastic.

26. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, having an overall thickness substantially lower than 1 mm, preferably lower than approximately 0.5 mm and, even more preferably, lower than 0.35 mm.

27. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, comprising, along its entire surface extension or at a zone, an external coating with a lubricating material for lubricating the plate of the iron, preferably wherein this lubricating material is silicone-based.

28. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein said underlying layer (18) comprises a rubber layer and / or at least one felt layer.

29. Covering element according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein said underlying layer (18) is made of fleece fabric or with needle-punched fibres or in phosphorus viscose and / or in modacrylic fibres.
